And was port 15000 bound by another instance when you launched the server?
But that makes no sense! It means the OS lets us bind the same port from different processes and that sounds crazy!

Personally I haven't got a Windows build, saving that for a learning opportunity internally, but yeah. No bind, no problem.

I haven't had any problems with ports binding given the right command line switches, once those got sorted, it's been binding to the right ports. I use Linux in a docker containers.
@rose valley what i can do for you is i can install 3 servers manually, start them all and let you see what im speaking of if you have time to call

The logging during startup claims that both servers use 15000 for me, however in netstat I can see both 15000 and 15001 being assigned to the different processes
so the logging just doesnt account for the dynamic port change

The two are not related. Beacon port and Port are handled through completely separate code paths.
Alrighty, but what I'm saying is that when -Port is used, the Beacon shows up correctly and binds to the correct port as specified. When -GamePort is used, the Beacon is -GamePort+1

I have a Vintage Story Server, a Wreckfest Server and a Satisfactory Server running on my 1241v3, and it also has a looot of storage and some cute GPUs xD
I'm using Linux, running in a pterodactyl platform, so basically in docker containers, the only issue I've had so far is that the LinuxServer config directory doesn't get created if you keep killing the container, you have to do a graceful shut down of the server from the in-game console and that will create that directory.

i was running wreckfest, very niche market, ultimately failed for me cause i couldnt give console access direct. But i do run a bunch of minecrafts, some databases and vms on the same box. Overall im stupid happy on the way the dedi performs out of the gate for this game. Dual E5-2690's for me

You can try in docker, but the app will crash
you can use a container - but that doesn't limit memory usage - it just makes it start swapping to disk sooner or crash
Minecraft is what got everyone into the idea that you can 'limit' memory usage - because Java is a virtual machine
I can limit the amount of RAM available to the container, but not to the dedicated server process
Linux ain't magic, it's just betterer in the majority of cases

Rent a linux cloud machine near you and use LinuxGSM. It's super easy (maybe wait to the hotfix tonight as the startup parameters have changed)

What you need is a cloud instance with min 2 CPUs and 8 GB RAM. And Linux. Most use Ubuntu server, I'd recommend against it and towards Rocky Linux or CentOS. Reason is, that Ubuntu is a consumer os - and therefore your search result leading to people speaking about their hobbyist computers. CentOS and Rocky Linu are meant for professional usage. Resulting in way better search results. Kinda funny though - Ubuntu isn't a bad os by any means π
AWS and Azure are expensive for a play server in my opinion, if you search for linux virtual private service providers you should get a list, find one that has servers close to you.

Depends on your desired outcome, if you are just playing around, it's probably cheaper to get a root linux server. If you want something someone else supports and provides the support for, probably a hosting site then.
I would recommend, hosting the server on a SSD. I ran mine on a slow hdd, i would not recommend

Thanks for the addition. I have no knowledge about consumr usage on AWS/Azure. As a European I pay ~15 bucks/month for a 4 CPU/8GB/160GB storag server with hetzner - heart it is way more expensive in the US.
there is no way for us to limit slots rn because the query information isnt exactly public yet, we most likely wont change pricing because the usage isnt linear yet as far as I can tell so we just let you have all the resource you need for a lower price than the others who let you "configure" your usage

Enterprise is anyone who is selling servers. For a LAN party that's typically Network even if you charge for admission. Yes, it has what it calls a controller/target model so it can deploy across multiple machines

Once you've understand where and how you need to config the instances LinuxGSM is such a nice and easy system π
On lgsm/config-lgsm/sfserver/ you have or may have three files: _default.cfg, common.cfg, and <instance>.cfg.
_default.cfg is being overwritten by LGSM on updates. So just leave it as be. On common.cfg you can set whatever you want to change as it overrides _default.cfg. If you are going to host multiple instances of the same game on on system you can use <instance>.cfg to set things for each instance on its own. It's ovrriding common.cfg and therefore _default.cfg. And that's all you need to keep in mind π

yeah but LGSM doesn't actually manage each game server instance - it runs a "hypervisor" of the server - and you config each game server through the game server... i wish it was easy like LGSM for the rest of the games i use

so, for anyone following the Stin drama here, I deleted all the save files from the server directory and I was able to create a new world and join w/o crashing
so even though the save in question with 20 hours on it loads locally just fine, it crashes the server

Nevermind, I found it in a backup log, shows UNetConnection::Closethough it shows the RemoteAddr as my router not the source IP
copy it
so I nuked my server and made a backup of the save. I copied the save file back into the server directory before starting up the server, but from my client, it still says the server needs to create or load a game

You can also do that from within the pause menu, when playing on a server. A bit cumbersome but temporary.

its not only dedicated server, the problem is that timetables do not work on client only host, which is also a problem in general multiplayer, dedicated server every player is client.. so nobody can use timetables
so thats something that needs to be fixed by css

You need the session ID, not the save name.
one thing i will not help people on, is with messing with the saves^^ too much can go wrong if you dont know what you are doing. as @oblique zenith ofc you can make it work^^ but not gonna go down that road, the suggestion is and always will be, start new save. Especially with the world changes as well

- delete all save file
- copy your wanted save file
- write session ID into the server manager

its our save causing server crash?
Did the server port change in the latest update? I'm running into issues. the server worked fine on port 7777, but now it's trying to access port 7778 (and that's blocked by docker config)

Check your command line switches, there was a change yesterday from -GamePort to -Port
i'm restarting with the command line changed. Is it fixed now the port changer or it still doesn't work? (aka forced 7777?)
You can change the ports, you just can't redirect to them, for example my command line on linux is: ./FactoryServer.sh -ServerQueryPort=62007 -BeaconPort=62008 -Port=62009 which opens UDP ports 62007, 62008, 62009 respectively.
I knew about the redirection, but yesterday the port change arguments weren't working
The -GamePort was broken yesterday, but they fixed that and moved it to -Port

pterodactyl's been working great, the only issue I'm having with it is that it doesn't shut down the server process before killing the container, which in turn doesn't write some files on new installs.
Opening port 7778 fixed this for me but I think this is fixed or will be fixed in an update (check the comments above)

My server is working fine now for client, but when the client isn't able to see it as online I've noticed that the log in steamcmd always stops at this red line. I know other people have experienced this, but does anyone have any ideas as to why? If there's something I can do to avoid it I'd like to try it
I have encountered that when I used a machine with a crappy network adapter so it wasn't slow but inconsistent, other than that its might just be unstable connection.

hey those are good home lab boxes... space saving and you can pretty much do anything you want on them.... there slow... but they still get the job done
i don't use them with desktop and @2ghz. they are good for nearly all things i need
just to clarify quick, this was a new save that was started after U5 dropped. the issue was with the server trying to load the save, it loaded locally just fine. multiple people are dealing with the same crashes and have used the same fix of deleting the players with a save editor to get the server to load the save w/o crashing.
If you are taking the power consumption into consideration those old boxes aren't that good anymore. If you just want to test stuff, get some Ryzen, 32 - 64gb of ram and some hard drives and you are good to go. And way cheaper in the long run

If you're just running a game server for fun you don't need any licenses, unless you want a control panel

I'm only hosting for myself and a group of friends, various games, whatever we decide to play at the time, i tried most free panels like pterodactyl and what have you, didn't like any of them, went back to making my own scripts =p
For my customers we don't use Control Pannels and such to manage their games... we only rent full scale Dedicated VPS boxes so there full featured linux installs.. no shared memory cpu or storage so a control panel for us is pointless. only thing we leverage is the hypervisors console.

There is a shell script in the install directory you picked. Run that script.
Check the instructions for SteamCMD to install it, then the instructions for launching the server on Linux.
Setting it up as a service is optional.
I had a 100mb save and task manager said it was only 1.5gb of ram usage

i personally always tell people to do the commands one after another instead of chaining them, the reason is simple.. copy pasting makes you learn "nothing" its better to know what you are actually doing when entering commands and why
