#dedicated-servers

proud dagger
#

so here is one, it shouldve been using 15005 on this one, but was instead using 15000 by default

rose valley
#

And was port 15000 bound by another instance when you launched the server?

proud dagger
#

yea

#

so once i figured that out my autodeploy just increments automatically via cli

rose valley
#

But that makes no sense! It means the OS lets us bind the same port from different processes and that sounds crazy! Crazy

proud dagger
#

youre under the assumption windows works without some direction πŸ˜‰

rose valley
#

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

proud dagger
#

i was able to confirm this on 3 seperate boxes

#

all with standard installations

rose valley
#

I will test this on my end again but I'm still interested in other people's experiences.

proud dagger
#

if you want i can give you a vm to test on temporarily

#

but im positive its not my environment

#

wait @slender idol you had this too right?

#

with the steamdriver

trail lichen
#

hm... I have to switch ports/local IP in my router if I want others to access another machine on my network. - for me local I can just switch between different machines as I like.

not sure if that does anything to the port topic.

rose valley
#

Wait a minute. Was the other instance running on another VM?

proud dagger
#

check your logs to see if its binding to the same port then

#

no

#

we run on bare metal for the most part

slender idol
#

Personally I haven't got a Windows build, saving that for a learning opportunity internally, but yeah. No bind, no problem.

#

Hell I had my last installed instance not even bind in the log πŸ˜‚

rocky sentinel
#

I haven't had any problems with ports binding given the right command line switches, once those got sorted, it's been binding to the right ports. I use Linux in a docker containers.

proud dagger
#

@rose valley what i can do for you is i can install 3 servers manually, start them all and let you see what im speaking of if you have time to call

rose valley
lofty latch
#

gotta love a 32:9 ultrawide for video editing πŸ˜„

slender idol
rose valley
#

It's entirely possible our logging might be broken too.

slender idol
#

Thats why I mean it's strange.

lofty latch
#

ooh I forgot to mention that! the logging is different on different platforms

#

which causes hekka confusion

slender idol
#

I can get a picture if you'd like.

full vector
#

The logging during startup claims that both servers use 15000 for me, however in netstat I can see both 15000 and 15001 being assigned to the different processes

#

so the logging just doesnt account for the dynamic port change

slender idol
#

Like, kudos for opening the random steam port when steam doesn't wanna work, but yeah, no beacon, and she's working just fine.

rose valley
slender idol
#

-GamePort -ServerQueryPort and -BeaconPort are obviously set, but yeah

rocky sentinel
#

Is -GmePort still valid or is it -Port?

full vector
#

just -Port

rocky sentinel
#

That's what I thought, I run the following command line: ./FactoryServer.sh -ServerQueryPort=62007 -BeaconPort=62008 -Port=62009 with this as netstat once it's loaded: ```udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:62007 0.0.0.0:*
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:62008 0.0.0.0:*
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:62009 0.0.0.0:*

slender idol
#

Well the docs said -GamePort

rocky sentinel
#

The wiki says -Port now

slender idol
#

-Port is the native UE4 command though

full vector
#

the key being "said", as in past tense πŸ˜›

lofty latch
#

Really the server should crash out if the ports are in use rather than just moving up by one

slender idol
#

aaaaand fixed, but yeah, beacon port no need babyyy

lofty latch
#

because now there's ports being used in ways you're not necessarily expecting

prime gorge
#

Since last nights update I can't connect to the server anymore. However I receive its respond time and game status before trying to connect. However my connection attempt runs into a timed out connection attempt.

bleak vessel

so has anyone confirmed if playing on dedi has the same wonkiness and bugs with regards to vehicles as P2P hosting always had?

slender idol
#

But, vics are notoriously TPS sensitive in UE4.

trail lichen
rocky sentinel
#

I'm using Linux, running in a pterodactyl platform, so basically in docker containers, the only issue I've had so far is that the LinuxServer config directory doesn't get created if you keep killing the container, you have to do a graceful shut down of the server from the in-game console and that will create that directory.

bleak vessel
#

so does sorta = trains still have no sound and the UI is broken?

bleak vessel
#

dang no reason to bother with dedi yet then 😦

prime gorge
# rose valley Will be fixed in the next update.

Hold on - does that mean that you gonna revert -Game back to -GamePort? Or alter different paramters? Just opened up a change request for LinuxGSM to fix this. If there are gonna be other changes (too), then I would alter it.

proud dagger
slender idol

Realistically -Port being the UE4 implementation makes more sense.

proud dagger
#

is there a command arguement to limit RAM or are you linux boys just doing that yourselves with your fancy linux stuff

lofty latch
#

there's no such thing as limiting RAM

#

apps use as much as they need

slender idol
#

Nobody limits ram πŸ˜›

trail lichen
slender idol
#

You can try in docker, but the app will crash

lofty latch
#

you can use a container - but that doesn't limit memory usage - it just makes it start swapping to disk sooner or crash

#

Minecraft is what got everyone into the idea that you can 'limit' memory usage - because Java is a virtual machine

rocky sentinel
#

I can limit the amount of RAM available to the container, but not to the dedicated server process

What you need is a cloud instance with min 2 CPUs and 8 GB RAM. And Linux. Most use Ubuntu server, I'd recommend against it and towards Rocky Linux or CentOS. Reason is, that Ubuntu is a consumer os - and therefore your search result leading to people speaking about their hobbyist computers. CentOS and Rocky Linu are meant for professional usage. Resulting in way better search results. Kinda funny though - Ubuntu isn't a bad os by any means πŸ™‚

rocky sentinel
#

AWS and Azure are expensive for a play server in my opinion, if you search for linux virtual private service providers you should get a list, find one that has servers close to you.

small grove
#

is it cheaper to rent a Linux machine or just go with a hosting site?

rocky sentinel
#

Depends on your desired outcome, if you are just playing around, it's probably cheaper to get a root linux server. If you want something someone else supports and provides the support for, probably a hosting site then.

there is no way for us to limit slots rn because the query information isnt exactly public yet, we most likely wont change pricing because the usage isnt linear yet as far as I can tell so we just let you have all the resource you need for a lower price than the others who let you "configure" your usage

prime gorge
#

What do you see as enterprise usage? Asking from a lan party perspective. Does AMP use orchestration though? Could I deploy the servers over a set of different servers?

lofty latch
#

Enterprise is anyone who is selling servers. For a LAN party that's typically Network even if you charge for admission. Yes, it has what it calls a controller/target model so it can deploy across multiple machines

Once you've understand where and how you need to config the instances LinuxGSM is such a nice and easy system πŸ™‚
On lgsm/config-lgsm/sfserver/ you have or may have three files: _default.cfg, common.cfg, and <instance>.cfg.
_default.cfg is being overwritten by LGSM on updates. So just leave it as be. On common.cfg you can set whatever you want to change as it overrides _default.cfg. If you are going to host multiple instances of the same game on on system you can use <instance>.cfg to set things for each instance on its own. It's ovrriding common.cfg and therefore _default.cfg. And that's all you need to keep in mind πŸ™‚

you can use that docker and just put in the steamID
