anyone interested in an expansion of API functionality
hook up wireshark to check comm method of server->client actions, set up man in the middle on yourself on that layer, then replicate those on steam shared account using its credentials to authorize, bang and now you have no need for api at all

why, there be a document that explains how the protocol works, i have had postman upload and download save games already, its works fine, im just finishing a bot of so my whole community can use it, not just me
I suppose for ur map idea, couldnt u download the game every few minutes from the server and generate a map from that?
if you want stuff that is not included in the api, such as receiving map data chunks, this is the fastest way of doing that and many more actions you may want that are not in the api

The problem is that when the person who hosts the server leaves the server
not stopping it but just dcing from it
that crashes the dedicated server client
or rather freezes it up
so it needs a restart
so u prob wont experience much but if u have friends playing on ur hw theyll get locked out

hi, I'm getting the same issue of not being able to join a dedi server with the whole "failed to connect to server api" but it shows me server name, server ping, and it's not using the default 7777 port it's using its own port as it's from a hosting service. other players can join but I specifically can't, is there something I'm missing (I'm win11 not linux too)

does it really need to be high spec? . you can use google cloud or aws for reliable server. but thats seems like an overkill. i think a hetzner server for 5$/month should do it.

thats when you need split tunelling. wireguard has "Allowed IPs", so just that server traffic goes through wg interface. rest goes through your regular interface.

There was (is) some messy stuff around servers with ports too close to eachother
it's actually simpler because there are only two ports to set rathe rthan three and you sat them with the same argument

you sure can; the only limit is that you need to use the same numbered port on TCP and UDP for each instance

I've been trying to set up a dedicated server through steam, but my friend cant connect. ive opened the ports (tcp 7777) ive tried -multihome 0.0.0.0 and have server quality set to ultra, he is still timing out.

Multihome doesn't work and you also need udp 7777
Honestly on a client I am not sure. You are borderline in the area where you need to be sending CSS a ticket if verifying your install doesn't fix it.
also make sure you port forward 7777 TCp and UDP from your firewall to the IP where the server is running. and likely the software firewall too if it is on
udp 7777 is open as well

and the version number of the server im running is different
when you start the server it lists the server version in the console and the log

Only thing server does is offload cpu load. You might have fps issues if the server is not good or you have high ms, but the server does not do anything with graphics. That is entirely client side.

I have a dedicated server running on my PC. After starting it, it works fine. I'm just connecting to it locally. However, if I leave it for a while (without connecting) like overnight, then I can't connect again. Shows This server appears to be offline. Windows power settings are to never sleep btw.
Last output in the server window is shortly after I closed the game. - almost exactly 9 minutes actually.
There is one error just after closing the game:

yeah the saved folder is under the user/.config file of the install user or the user that starts the server? Not 100% which one but I bet you updated with the same user you started with. Go back to the OG user account and you should be fine.

No it should be fine. Just make sure you use the same user every time.

Not steam user. User on the machine you are running the server on ie windows account user if you are using windows.

It is a selfsign cert. I would check you time/date settings. I have only seen that when those are off.
The server generates it on startup. It last 4hour or 4 days. I don't remember.

Are you 100% sure. I only ask because the 8 other people I have seen with this error all had some kind of time/timezone/date issues that fixed it.

Verify the times are the same on the client and the Server and make sure when checking the time they arent set for different timezones

That area is not touched by an uninstall/ install and has management file in it like world saves.

Hello, my current problem is server name is unauthenticated, yet before I stopped playing the dedicated server I made was working in U8. Updated through steamcmd and deleted mod files in both the game and the dedicated server files bc update is fresh. Also, port forwarding range is 15000-15777 with port number on 7777. Is this a normal issue the community has had? If so, how can i fix this?

Weird. So the datalog from the dedicated server window seems to be normal (no red text or any connection problems), yet in-game it just refuses to present itself. Would I have to resort to an overall reinstallation?

It should show the ip you are trying to connect to and say something like connection trying or connected or something. If you see nothing when you try to connect then you are not getting to the server and should double check your servers networking ie: port forwarding and ip info.

If you return to main menu you should see the join game button now.

Thank you very much for giving the time to help not only me, but other people with dedicated server issues. I've ended up figuring out what seemed to be the problem, and it was the IP address's value different from the last digit. The Xfinity app (my service provider) gives a different IP address listed; so it's best to default to what the IP is on what command prompt says.
I hope whoever has or will have my problem learns from my experience!
dropping this here in case it helps someone. i was having trouble running a dedicated server on one computer and then trying to use the same Steam account on another computer as a client. i double checked firewall (removed and re-added the rules), updated port forwarding rules per 1.0 instructions (TCP/UDP 7777) etc, all didn't work.
as a last ditch effort, i tried downloading the dedicated server from Epic instead. this works flawlessly even with the Epic account offline. the Epic account also owns the game (though i don't think this is required for the server software?) and was able to connect as a client on yet another computer from outside the LAN (confirming my port forwarding was correct with the first setup).

Most will install it with steamcmd instead for this reason

to be clear, in the final working setup i have, on three different computers:
- epic server running by just running the executable in the directory (epic not logged in)
- steam running the game through the steam GUI while logged in
- epic running the game through epic GUI while logged in

When I try to claim the server from the client, it doesn't show up from its WAN IP. If I claim via LAN IP it works, and I can join, but none of my WAN players can, and I also can't join from my own WAN IP (pretty sure I should be able to do this)
my machine is set as a DMZ in the router
yeah same thing i had - could join locally on the PC that was running it but not from WAN or any other LAN device
You should just do regular port forwarding instead

Anybody got encryption token missing? I've port forwarded UDP & TCP 7777. Even then i still cant get to my dedicated server on the same LAN if i use join. I can join via server manager though

I finally unlocked the blueprint designer, but blueprints are not saving. I have tried renaming the server with no special charaters or spaces and have restarted the server several times. Deleted the initial blueprint designer and rebuilt, still doesn't save. Anyone know what else I can try?

I'm aware that logging out while in a vehicle was a problem, but got kicked from a friend's server due to some time-out issue and now can't log back in. Is this a known issue, and will I need to ask him to save edit/reset my character to get it resolved?
He can't do anything with your character, have him restart the server, if that doesn't work likely need to figure out the timeout thing

I got a nitrado server, and always when the game does an autosave the server restarts. Does any1 know a fix for this?
