And it will cost even more
yeah i'm not trusting ANY web company with my ID.
Valve asked me for a photo of my government issued ID and i sent it with my face in the background as i held it up to the camera, looking VERY upset.
I demanded they deleted it upon conclusion of the ticket, but i don't believe them.
that was the one time i sent my id to a company and i hated doing it. i dont trust any of the geezers
Here in the EU, they working on global platform for all EU citizens.
This platform will act as a middle step for age verification.
Website A wants to know your age/id.
Website B (EU age verification app) opens up, you verify to website B.
Website B tells website A you all good.
Website A never knows anything of you. It's just a simple boolean (in theory).
But I am not sure if I am happy with that too.
The internet is going from very open. To very strict and closed place if we need to have ID for every single app, website and game.
Better than uploading your ID at least
I rather not upload anything? Been working fine for 20 years now 🤣
Same but I am worried those f**** will force us to upload ID or confirm age anyway they can
Well, luckily we don't have to be online and it's still a choice.
anyway, time to go hunt down some food
People fight against ID verification because everyone on the internet is a dog
and then someone hacks that API and exposes 10miillion european's identities
i dont trust any of these geezers to protect the data
there's no money in it to make it worth investing into security
Canada Revenue got hacked for ffs and that does have money involved and they still cheaped out
the used the free open source openSSL instead of an enterprise solution that was professionally maintained. So now canada is dealing with systematic identity theft problems that are going to persist for at least another decade because of it.
There are also insider jobs where employees export personal data to usb and sell it to third parties
"A scandal broke out in Croatia after it was discovered that data on more than a million motor vehicle owners had been leaked to the public without authorization.
The index reports that N1 received a clarification from the Croatian Security Operations Agency (SOA), from which they explained that the leakage of data on vehicles and vehicle owners in Croatia did not occur through hacking, but because a person who had access to that data made an unauthorized copy and published it. For the record, this is about 2.4 million vehicle records and 1.1 million natural persons. Among the unauthorized published data are names, addresses, tax numbers, JMBGs, dates of birth, registrations and other data about vehicles and their insurance policies."
Really what they should be implementing for any of these systems is a private public key encryption system. You would sign your own verification with your own private key.
We've had decades to teach people what private keys are but it's 2026 and 99% of people have no idea how they work.
And people always ask how other car insurance companies always know exactly when your insurance expires. This is how they knew, that person who extracted data on usb stick sold them data....
where i live we have one insurance corporation only, mandated by law. I hate it. But we don't have that problem at least.
i'd almost welcome that problem for a little more competition in the market
Insurance companies basically bought personal data on the black market
yup. there's no laws saying they can't do that. so they do.
Considering how bad our government IT security is, I don't want to know how they handle my data or how many people had access to it....
At this point, everyone is going to get their identity stolen sooner or later
And it won't be their fault which is a bigger tragedy
And half the depression 🤣
Btw, I hate my neti pot. Anyone tried using squeeze bottle like this for rinsing sinuses?
Looks easier than the stupid neti pot I just can't figure out how to use properly
hold it upside down and plug your nose down on it
i don't use those because i'm extra paranoid about Naegleria
the amoeba that eats brains and only lives in warm lakes? probably won't get it
I use NaCl for rinsing my sinuses so there is no risk of amoeba
my dad uses one of these. it looks so gross. i hate it. yeuck.
all i ever do is plug one nostril and blow it all out in the shower. rocket style
Yeah, that's why I want the squeeze bottle because it's better than the stupid neti pot which requires you to completely tilt your head to the side
This is what I use for rinsing. Costs only 1 euro
only time i've ever seen a netty pot used. my face matches the performance
Much better than boiling water and risking amoeba eating my brain
yea but see i'm the kind of genius that accidentally dribbled 2 molar NaOH on my arm and stared at it for a solid 5 seconds thinking "huh, that kinda tickles"
Lol
fight club moment
EU doesn't store either. Or so they promise. It just reads and send boolean to whoever requested.
And it's like picking between Discord (corporation) or EU (politicians), but I do trust EU tiny bit more than Discord when they say they value our privacy.
right. they're just going to verify the data with absolutely no information about a person on their side.
they'll get hacked and faster because they're a bigger less secure target than a corporation that makes profit from data collection
EU already owns our data 🤣 As a citizen.
Discord doesn't.
Man talking about this makes me realize how true cyberpunk is becomming.
Yeah, better grab food before the supermarket closes 🤣
Nah, just the fact that the new world isn't led by politicians. But corporations.
Just finished S2 of Fallout. And I hope you all played fallout?
||In fallout lore, it's actually the corporations behind all the shenigans, the vaults, dropping of bombs etc. Politics weren't involved much afaik.||
But it's the same as cyberpunk world did.
Season 3 is going to be about Enclave I think
No shit 🤣
And "Rome alone" 🤣
No offense, but Fallout aint exactly GOTY stuff
it's pretty clear what the plots are. What plots got finished.
And which ones are setting up S3.
Pretty funny how they think Las Vegas is the promised lands for the Romans because of Ceasar Palace 🤣
I also doubt Hank is suddenly going to become a good person because he erased his memory
He still has an evil nature
I know 99% sure what's going to happen.
||So the writers gave him a chip. And the writters wrote that the chip can;'t be removed.
In s3 we will learn the chip can be removed.||
I wonder what will happen to Thaddeus
I am so sure of it. That's how they write it.
Same that we find NCR on a hill with two. For decades.
And they are obliterated.
And then 2 episodes later ||they march with a full army into Las Vegas. Where? How? Huh? Why didn';t they help fighting the romans? Why only help after half the dead claws were killed.||
The writting is really cheap sometimes 😛
but fits fallout haha
They already declared Fallout on netflix the best videogame tv adaptation but I disagree imo
Also how many times can you be betrayed by the same person... and still fall for it lol
what is the best
rofl, the best my ass. It's good. But full of plotholes like I mentioned.
what is the best
the numero uno
I mean which show is the best video game adaptation in your book
better than Witcher, Last Standing or something. The one with the mushroom zombies and girls navigating their emotions.
I don't think there is.
there isn't a best
so why would you say fallout isn't the best if you don't think there is a best lmfao
Nah, but Fallout is one of the better ones.
Hard to tell but I definitely enjoyed The Last of Us tv adaptation more than Fallout
Atleast it entertained me. Just have to turn off brain.
I didn't watch that because everyone said it sucked lol
I might watch fallout because many people say it's good
Season 1 was ok but the second one was boring tbh
That's why people review bombed it.
what
yup ...
I'm pretty sure people said the show was bad because they thought it was bad, not because of a single line
I just don't watch it.
Cba with review bombing anything 🤣
You should internet more if you trully believe people wont review bomb because of stuff like that.
that's stupid lmfao
AC got bombed because of a samurai with certain ... background.
Before game got released.
It's the internet. Crazy place.
people didn't think the rise of skywalker was bad because of the line "Somehow Palpatine returned" that's just an example of its badness
what
You didn't believe me 🤣
No, I don't believe it's the sole reason people don't like the show. that's fucking stupid.
It's like when people roasted Stranger Things ending because of Will opening up to everyone
You can't put all people on a pile, never.
So not everyone ditched it because of that. But there was a whole lot of commotion and really turned off people.
I believe that
I didn't watch it.
For some reason, I can't get past S3-4.
It feels all... so much the same.
You ain't missing anything tbh 🤣
I read, not sure if it's true, the writers only had enough for one season with a flew lose ends. (Season 1)
But they never actually had a big plan for the show and never expected it to become so big.
And then suddenly Netflix told them; "Make another season, quick, people love it!"
Has anyone watched that Splinter Cell series on Netflix? (Anime/Cartoon) - wonder if it's good.
Probably since they are already milking the series and releasing The tales from 85's
It's like it's never enough money for them and they want more
I also think it's because of the concept of binging stuff.
People watch a whole season in one evening, hungry for more.
So Netflix tries to find ways (in the beginning) to keep pushing out season as quickly as possible.
Now they start to release episodes over time with shows. To keep up user retention.
yeah I also never watched stranger things
I remember it was huge a couple years ago and you were a hillbilly if you weren't watching it
not yet but i mean too. last netflix anime i saw was the terminator anime and i thought that was done really well
i actually give them credit for NOT milking stranger things too bad and seeing it through. It got 5 solid seasons that took 10 years to make. The spinoff (cartoon) isn't beginning until its been done for a while. I been fine with the pacing for it.
i watched each season and it was fun. not a favorite but it's fun
I really loved S1 of stranger things but the other seasons ... they lost me.
so, Discord is going to ask or id now?
i grew up with that old style of over the top horror. Nightmare on elmstreet, Friday 13th, Hellraiser, Critters, all that nonsense. it's a fun throwback
That for sure. But the story writting became questionable.
And I wondered over the seasons ... where is this going?
lol yeah i'm not going to award it any best writing ever medals
I was hoping for... how do you say it again.
An arc/story that spans over multiple seasons.
But it felt more like bumbing from one story into another ... without any red line. Atleast not to me.
Ok, you have the otherside. But that's it. ||Where the hell did the Russians come from in S3?||
they already do in some cases
if they ask for my ID I am leaving lmfao, not that dedicated to using discord
apprantly theres a play now. like a stage play, that explains how it all begun. Why there's an || E.R. bridge connecting earth with an alien world||. I guess it ties into the ||Philidelphia experiment|| which i've always loved cause it was a big urban legend in the 80s
I'll probably watch a youtube breakdown about the play
But it would have been cool. If that was the Netflix show itself.
Showing us what happened, how we got to this point, etc.
yup. that would've been useful
But not a bad show by anymeans.
I also believe in the writing philosophy where your world building should be wayyyy deeper than what you actually reveal to the audience. i think thats what the duffers were attempting
not so much a desire to milk a franchise. i mean , it's really not that milked tbh
I can't agree with you more. i've been thinking that for a while now why LOTR was so successful.
Because the world building was WAY deeper than the movies showed.
Yeah tolkien is a big part of why i think that works lol
The source material, was just crazy. So much to work with if you had the passion.
Just the appendixes of the books and the similarion and all his notes. Even before it was a movie
And I think that made the movie triology so well received.
and another fact that kinda supports this logic.
Love me the movies
The hobbit was one book. And they made it into 3 movies. Did not work.
yeah it tried to do a bunch of the similarian but all that extra knowledge works better in the background
and they made up a whole thing where gandalf fights sauron. dumb.
"Maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me," he said, laughing before repeating, "They never listen." He also seemingly gave an impression of someone at Netflix, saying, "Who's this? It's a writer, it's nobody," waving his hand in dismissal.
- Andrzej Sapkowski
I just remember the quotes from the writer of the Witcher. About Netflix not wanting to listen to him 🤣
Like the man wrote the books! Why not take his advice, he knows the world he created.
The author of the witcher tho... he's sort of mental. He generally disregards the games and thinks videogames in general offer no value to anyone. Kind of an art snob about it.
The show only exists because the game made the books so globally popular
He probably told netflix they can't take any direction from the games, so they ignored him
He doesn't want any print versions of his books to use video game images either, but the publishers ignore him there too
Oh right, I forgot about that 🤣
I don't think the game would be as good without the source material.
So I guess they both benefit from eachother.
Yeah the world building helps a lot
Shower thought: When are we going to start getting AMD CPUs/Intel CPUs/PCHes that don't support SATA, only NVME?
Also, how many amps of 3.3v/5v would a modern (even 2010s) system draw from a standard EATX power supply?
Big difference between 2010s and now.
Biggest users of 3.3/5v were disk drives and hdds. 3.3 isn't used for much now, 5v powers USB but not a ton else
If anyone here is good at probability math
I have NEVER seen a drive that uses 3.3v
that is what I saw when I went to that link
Assuming the motherboard has 8 rear USB ports and 4 front ports, that's 12 amps assuming each USB device is pulling a full 1A (in reality, two ports are likely to be taken up by Mouse/Keyboard and devices rarely charge at a full 1A)
Assuming drives pull 2A each and you have 4 of them (my SSD pulls 0.8a) that's 8a, or 20a total
Its going to be one of those features that will stick around for years to come
Not many but a couple new gen mobos still have VGA and DVI outputs
Slightly more common than that is PS/2 connectors
Its so old and so widely used up until relatively recently so it'll be yonks before we see it even be a rarity
Its still useful for Bulk storage
A 8TB HDD is way cheaper per GB than a 4TB NVMe
So there's still use cases for sata in newer system apart from legacy hardware support
PS/2 connectors also have advantages compared to usb. No imput lag, Nkey rollover, way more stable. I’m kinda sad my modo don’t have them.
For long time even CPU might use 5V rail for significant portion of the load.
most late ps2 are emulated
They have the disadvantage of needing a keyboard from 1962
For as long as HDD’s stay relevant
Mass storage builds would also require a lot more pcie lanes if done exclusively with nvme
Already at the point that that same port can support either being one SATA port, or one PCIe lane.
PCIe 3.0 x1 for AMD currently, not sure about Intel.
3.0 for 700-series Intel chipsets for 14th gen, the newer ones are 4.0 1x
But means you can get four SATA ports for each PCIe 4x M.2 slot.
@visual tree Have you tried this?
I guess you could say my computer has alzheimer's disease and runs out of memory all the time
ok i have a dumb question
moving files from one spinning drive to the other spinning drive on my system seems to be impossible. it starts off ok, makes it to about 10%, then the transfer rate drops off a cliff down to kb/s. i tested both drives' health, they showed up as completely ok.
wtf could be going on to do that
maybe your drives are one of those hybrids that have a bit of fast flash memory for a buffer
how do i check that
Give the drive model string from Windows.
Or check if it supports TRIM/Discard, only SMR HDD:s do.
For that destination drive.
the one i'm trying to copy to is SMR
Yeah, those suck for writes.
And all consumer drives for ages have been SMR.
And even some WD NAS drives.
Basically need to be written in very long strips, as the "tracks" overlap so much, that if you write track X-1 and track X+1, track X would be completely gone.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shingled_magnetic_recording
Shingled magnetic recording (SMR) is a magnetic storage data recording technology used in hard disk drives (HDDs) to increase storage density and overall per-drive storage capacity. Conventional hard disk drives record data by writing non-overlapping concentric magnetic tracks (conventional magnetic recording [CMR], Perpendicular recording), whi...
i do remember SMR being a bit of a game changer for storage when it first came out
would copying stuff from a SMR HDD to an SSD, then over to the other HDD make a difference?
Nah, just tiny bit more space for same gen tech.
With originally computer controlled SMR for archieval drives.
But then the drive manufacturers started shipping drive controlled SMR drives to consumers.
Copying from SMR isn't a problem, it is large writes to SMR drive.
Once that CMR cache is full, they go into that basically limp mode.
so it's good for a bunch of little files, kinda crap for big single files
So they have some CMR (Conventional magnetic recording" are as buffer, and contents of that then get transferred to SMR areas when drive is idle and CMR contains at least one SMR tracks worth of stuff.
No, doesn't matter what kind of files, just about if you write more than that CMR areas worth of stuff before it can be flushed to SMR areas.
Like I said, all consumer drives have been SMR for ages.
Need to go for WD Red Plus or higher, or Seagate Ironwolf/Skyhawk or better to not get SMR today.
have those caught up in capacity?
So all WD consumer drives, all Seagate consumer drives and WD Red (no-postfix) drives are SMR.
Up to 28TB or so currently?
Those have always been the drive ranges with higher capacity?
But all 3.5", AFAIK there are no 2.5" non-enterprise HDDs left that are CMR.
oh, i thought that they were both more expensive & had less capacity because they weren't SMR
The actual consumer price is about the same between SMR and CMR, manufacturers just pocket the difference.
But at one point the common SMR zone size was 256MiB, so if you wanted to modify even one bit, you had to read whole 256MiB into cache, modify that one bit in the cache, and write 256MiB back into the zone.
Which for long time you could tell SMR drive from it being marketed having 256MiB of DRAM while CMR drives had 64MB.
But cannot be used anymore as 256MiB of DRAM is now common for CMRs too.
That being what start to happen once that CMR type actual on-disk storage "cache" is filled.
it's just weird that it drops down to kb/s
Because it start to do those full zone reads and writes for any change.
will it eventually speed up a bit after that?
No.
Only after it has had time to be idle and empty that CMR area to SMR zones.
ok
so long as that's how it's supposed to behave i'm not as worried 🤣
last time this happened to me the drive did actually die
That is how any drive-managed SMR drive behaves once that CMR area is full and writes continue.
The other being original host-managed SMR drives, that needed special controllers on the host side, not standard SATA etc. ones.
Still used in enterprise side for archieval purposes etc.
that also explains why enterprise loves to stripe hundreds of them together
i kinda knew that, i just have never had any direct experience with it
No, completely different thing.
Drive-managed SMR basically doesn't exist in enterprise space.
Only host-managed SMR for archieval, and CMR.
i assume that in order to have the drives be host-managed SMR, they'd need to have the ability to be drive-managed SMR
No.
Host-managed SMR was first, where that computer side controller is in charge of that zone management etc. and the drive is dumb.
Drive-managed SMR needs complex controller on the drive itself.
So it only came as result of drive makers seeing more profit in consumer space by needing less platter surface for same amount of storage, lowering costs.
would there be any benefit for an enterprise space to switch to drive-managed SMR and ditch their host-managed SMR controllers?
Host-managed SMR is not general use in enteprise space.
It is specialist tech for those sequential write only loads like backup storage or other archieval uses.
And point is that in that, the computer is aware of everything, while with drive-managed SMR the computer isn't in control.
so it's just not worth the pain to make the switch for stuff that's just archived anyway
Drive-managed SMR is the worse tech to both CMR and host-managed SMR.
But you couldn't stuff SMR into consumer space in any other way.
got it 🤣
see, i like learning this stuff from people who know it & aren't bound by NDA to lie about it
oof, made some people in another discord upset that i reminded them that their little mmo really only cares about how much money they can suck out of customers
Do MMOs exists anymore without aggressive monetization? 🤣
I disagree
I hav a drive from about 2020 that’s CMR2tb
There was a large amount of backlash so some drives are still CMR
I do remember SMR drives being E-waste brand new, I made the mistake of installing to one and the computer took over an hour to boot
Ok, Seagate has partly gone back with 3.5" 1TB Barracuda still as CRM, and Barracuda Pro series as CMR.
All the 2.5" ones are SMR:
https://www.seagate.com/products/cmr-smr-list/
I… do not understand why drive manufacturers use SMR
WD is much more silent.
Cheaper for them.
It slightly decreases cost but makes the drives absolutely unusable
So more profit.
And they do work for light use.
Just die on anything doing lot of writes with no idle time.
Such as?
In a 2.5” drive makes no sense to me because if you want cold storage, you use 3.5”
HDDs are rarely used in laptops anymore, if at all
WD Blue 3.5" have SMR and CMR variants at each tier, and only single letter change in the model number denoting.
X ending are CMR, and Z ending are SMR.
2.5" Blues are all SMR.
And like said, the complete fuckup is WD Reds being SMR... Red Plus and Red Pro are CMR.
Isn’t Blue meant to be used as a boot drive
The generic consumer HDD branding.
Most consumers are going to be using their drive to boot off
Red:s are supposed to be NAS drives, Purples video surveillance, Blacks are "prosumer".
So WD has basically exited the 2.5” drive market
There are no 2.5" consumer HDDs being made that aren't SMR, neither Seagate or WD make any.
Which is also why any currently sold external HDD is going to be SMR.
Terrible for general use since they’re SMR
Terrible for server use because they’re low capacity and higher cost per terrabyte
Both do have enterprise segment 2.5" HDDs with CMR.
Point is that SMR is cheaper on platter area for same storage capacity.
So they are cheaper for the manufacturer.
They just don't pass the cost saving to consumers.
Only in enteprise sector.
If you look that Seagate list, their enterprise CMR disks top at 30TB, and enterprise SMR drives top out at 36TB.
Because both are at the top of what they can currently do for bit density.
SMR allowing them to stuff 20% more storage into same physical platter area, as the final stripes are narrower.
But on that SMR, the stripes are so narrow that you cannot write both X-1 and X+1 and still have anything readable left of X.
So you have to do any writing onto the disk in much larger batches going from start of zone to end of zone in one go, and cannot do block level replaces anymore.
Where then there is CMR size split between neighboring zones.
Basic idea being, if you can write in 2 units wide strip, and you can read in 1 unit wide strip.
With CMR, you need to space the strips 3 units apart, so if first write X, then X-1, then X+1, you will have 2 units wide X-1, 1 unit wide X, and 2 units wide X+1 in the end on the disk.
With SMR you just write X-1, X, X+1 all in one go, every time, with 2 units width from each other, and in the end on the disk you have X-1 and X at 1 unit width, and X+1 at 2 units width.
Going from 5 units width for three tracks to 4 units width for three tracks.
And with that difference getting larger more tracks you pack into a zone.
So currently on CRM HDD, you can do writes in 4kB units (and old drives were 512B)
On SMR HDD, you can do writes in 256MiB units (for most part), outside of that CMR cache region.
Speaking of drives
mine sounds like total garbage
went from smooth clicking essentially to aggressively vibrating itself to death anytime it does anything
the case probably came loose and now the vibrations from the drive are making it rattle
if its making noise and still working, thats my guess
i had an old pc case i had vibration problems in after the hard drive mounting frame lost some rigidity in the rivits. i jammed an old nokia 3310 between the drive mount and the case wall and it fixed it. magic.
Brand new windows install and the taskbar is already broken(literally installed yesterday)
i dont understand why people who hate windows keep installing windows. Just install linux.
I've never found these problems with windows 11 myself. It's been fine since i first installed it. I dont know how it happens. I dont even know how i would reproduce a bug like that.
Maybe this kind of prone to finding problems situation is why windows haters can't manage linux.
since you just installed it yesterday, nows the time to migrate
low ram capacity and cpu instability usually kills windows without hesitation in ways like that
its working but getting slower and slower
could also be the actually mount getting loose since its mount is removable
cause 40MBPS for a HDD this size is badddd

ok i kinda like this
$300 is kinda painful, but understandable
i could see a v2 where they make attachable paneling
honestly i couldent be asked to check it out since i have no way to check it without moving my pc or the whole desk both of which are not worth it lol
First off, don't full on hate windows
Secondly, I do daily Linux. I have two Linux desktops and two Linux servers.
This laptop was my third Linux machine and I had Kubuntu on it for years and used it almost daily. I quite like Linux.
However, the dgpu is nvidia and the driver compatibility just wasn't there. If I wanted to play any games, it had to be on windows. My role at work has changed and I can now do everything from a desktop, so I wanted to set this laptop up for gaming.
Am I not allowed to comment on the fact that the taskbar failed to load the icons for flipping file explorer and settings, both built-in windows components? I didn't even complain or say windows sucked or anything, just noted that it was broken on the second boot ever after being installed 24h ago.
Every time you post an image, its another cursed thing
i always take 3x more than i send that way i have some backups for later hehe
heres part 2 of the HDD story line
single read
Oh no
im not too woried about it cause it does work sometimes which makes me thing its just really spread out data cause i delete like a year worth of stuff of it at a time usually
im more woried that it dosent stay spinning and has to spool up anytime i do something on it
cause it dident use to do that and i havent had any drives do that on me
Thats really bad
yea good thing i only use it for videos cause holy that would suck for gaming having to wait for the drive to spool up only to work at 1% efficiency each time
Gaming wise those load times would be so bad indeed
then again i game off USB sticks now cause M.2's are too expensive for me to bother
i keep any big games i play a lot on my games drive and offload the rest to keep space
works quite well now that a lot of USB sticks can do 100MB/s reads
its basically just a small HDD
not a bad idea when you have a lot of them laying around
i have 352GB of space in USB sticks colecting dust on my desk may aswell put them to use
what
And they regret it already 🤣
Clarification on our approach to age assurance
We’ve seen some questions about our age assurance update and we want to share more clarity. We know how important these changes are to our community.
Here’s what we want you to know:
__ Discord is not requiring everyone to complete a face scan or upload an ID to use Discord.__
Haha, nice one discord. Idiots.
You could see the backlash comming from miles away.
And they added that to clarify.
In depth dutch article to why openAI is losing money. And why ads is a last resort to stop the loss.
and here i was hoping to use a BG3 Tav to verify
does someone know why i can't join games if they have another game inside of it? i figured out that it's wifi problem but can't find the core of problem, tried toying with firewall and allow apps that i needed, reinstalling, turning off firewall for a couple mins, running as administrator yet nothing works
Could you try to reformat the question and include more details of what you are trying to do?
Sorry i went to the shop so i couldn't answer, for example 1: i don't have anything to play and i start roblox, then i join the game and in many tower defense games the game itself and "round" on the different servers so it forcibly leaves this game and joins the round and thats the part where it just infinitely loads without any progress, example 2: i'm trying to launch game in steam and it takes 2-3 minutes to launch which is strange bc on any other wifi with the same speed it would take 10 seconds if steam was opened before, example 3: wifi has 5hz and 2.4hz, i can switch between them freely on phone but on pc it takes some time to connect to 2.4hz and i can't connect to 5hz at all(when connecting it says something like "checking network requirements" and after it can't connect it says "couldn't connect to network")
Desktop?
Ye
Your GPU/GPU power cables are acting as WiFi jammer when GPU is under suitable load.
Could you please explain it so someone with below 50 iq can understand?
Somewhat common for that 5GHz, usually 2.4GHz works.
Pulsing power draw from GPU causes those GPU power wires to act as transmitting antennas in suitable manner to cause 5GHz WLAN card inside the case to not work properly.
For the models with cables going from backpanel to the card usually.
Having windowed case can also let that affect things outside the case.
Understood, is there any way to fix it?
Trying to force that 2.4GHz band use and seeing if that helps mostly.
Or using wired ethernet instead.
Everything else gets pretty expensive.
Alright, thanks for help
Basically if desktop MB doesn't have the WLAN card right at the backpanel inside metal shell:
But has it lower down with inside case antenna wires, you are very likely to have issues in combination with gaming GPUs.
Older MSI board putting the WLAN card right under the GPU...
As the worst possible example of placement.
Asrock doing the same with B650M PG Lightning WiFi:
But basically anything with inside case antenna wires cannot be trusted with dGPU.
And you really want this style, even when it makes any WLAN card swaps pain:
When selecting a MB for use with WiFi
Those do contain standard WLAN cards inside the metal clamshell shielding.
i found new issue
i mean i was like that before but i forgot to mention
exact same thing happens on phone.
And do you have windowed case?
I did mention that that allows the interference affect other devices near.
i'm stupid
i just realised that
i thought that laptop and desktop same thing
now i googled it and can say that i have a laptop
sorry
Ok. So probably not anywhere near as relevant.
Usually laptops are designed and tested to account for electromagnetic interference they themselves generate.
so what could be the problem?
If it's also on phone then it's more likely a transmitter(router) issue rather than reciever.
Does it depend on your location? Like only happens in your room or smth. Maybe you're too far from the router.
I'm close to router and apartment pretty small, only for 2 people so i cannot possibly be far from it unless it's 5g
also i noticed that, nvm i forgot
5ghz should have less interference from other routers and get a better connection if there's not much between your device and router.
Could try a simple router restart, doesn't hurt if you can live without that internet for 2min.
I tried
List of things i tried: router restart, troubleshooting, reinstall programmes, laptop restart, a little bit of playing with firewall and access, turning off firewall for a minute just to test if i can properly play or nah
Also i can't connect to 5ghz on laptop
Only on phone
And that didn't change anything
Try ethernet cable, will help narrowing it down
I'll try but since rn night and shops closed I can't go and buy it
Fairly odd to not have a single one laying around or being ued that you could temporarily test with.
Well, my dad and mom got divorced like 2-3 month ago and dad doesn't have laptop so he's new to this place and doesn't need cable
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer apps like this are very useful in apartment buildings just to see how crowded the radio space is. It helps diagnostics and informs your solution better
Hey tech people
Planning to make my own router and need a good NIC
Finding used ones in AUS is basically impossible
I could get a brand new card or do I get a used one off of ebay
Used a wifi analyzer a month ago and found out there are a lot of wifi signals on 2.4 ghz using 40 mhz channel instead of 20 💀
Need to cover my whole house with 5 ghz because 2.4 ghz is terrible
<@&387163995947270144> 👆 scam?
Get that garbage out of here
why don't GIF players typically have a scrubbing bar or play/pause functionality
Because gif is magical
Because GIFs aren't video.
?
It is ages old image format that allows for multiple images in same file with interval on when to switch between them.
Not being played by video player, but just the image decoder side.
Yes, you could implement controls, but they would be GIF specific, while everything else runs on same codebase with just different codecs.
Even MJPEG is video codec based, with just each frame being single JPEG image, GIF animations aren't.
That we have to use GIFs for anything this day is technical & policy failure basically.
Some older browsers allowed you to stop the switching, but Chromium doesn't.
How much space efi system partition should have?
Depends.
128MB can usually work, 512MB is plenty for most uses, for SystemD-Boot in combination with some other stuff, might need way more.
As SystemD-Boot puts kernel and initrd:s on EFI partition, as it cannot read anything but FAT32.
While with GRUB2 etc. those live on /boot/.
On my laptop, just 8 mb are used on that partition.
I want to shrink it and make more room for /boot when upgrading ubuntu
So GRUB2 for example uses less than 5MB for me on EFI partition.
Laptop UEFI updates can use that to hold the update file as example of extra use.
Unless I use it wrong hehe
Windows 11 with 128MB EFI partition and two different UEFI update files ran out of space with that 128MB EFI.
But that two files was because that was cloned OS from different HW, and I forgot to remove the update file for the first one.
And tried to update the second HWs UEFI.
My main computers Windows 11 uses 34MB currently on EFI.
But basically that is the norm, and for upgrade you can go down to maybe 12MB?
I would just extend it later again if possible to 64MB in this case, if that is Linux only machine with any other bootloader than SystemD-Boot.
Out of pure curiosity, Why?
Yep using grub there.
Was thinking of 64 as well, though maybe 128 is a safer bet?..
But anyway, even extra 100mb taken from it should help a lot with /boot size
64 will allow for GRUB2 and UEFI update file.
Cause it and boot have total of 1gb on disk, and everything else is single luks partition and shrinking nad moving it doesn't seem like a practical task
Reminds me of days when the only GPT i knew was a good thing all around
Can't believe there are still people who don't know the difference between fiber and 5G and think it's the same thing 🤦♂️
Reminds me of what George Carlin said:
If we use IQ as a metric, sure.
Otherwise, there might be a Spider George situation
George Carlin would be having a field day these days.
As well as Anderson Cooper.
One of my favorite quotes. Also, him talking about conspiracy theories and how they don't need to be centrally organized if individual interests align. Ultra smart man.
this is true regardless of whether IQ is your metric for intelligence because of what the word average means
it's possible that it's skewed so that there are more people below the average than above it or vice versa I suppose but there's not really a good reason to think that
there's also no reason to assume a non-uniform distribution doesn't exists - but yeah, it's highly unlikely that it does.
as I said, Spiders Georg situation

How long until we need an industrial outlet for a GPU?
"The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti was an enthusiast-class graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on January 27th, 2022."
I'm at least glad my 750W PSU can handle most new GPU's
Got it for the same price as a 650W model for some reason
even 650W can still handle all of Radeon's lineup
@thick tinsel @verbal raft
this is a better venue for tech conversation
coming from a CG entertainment background for none interactive entertainment (movies and such)
Path tracing is a rendering algorithm in computer graphics that simulates how light interacts with objects, voxels, and participating media to generate realistic (physically plausible) images
NOT to be confused with modern implementation of trying to achieve this in real time in video games with technology such as
PathTracer
Lumen Global Illumination
Raytracing (Nvidia)
all these technolgies are trying to Path trace in real time
and also the fact that all of radeon's lineup is available without the stupid 12VHPWR
"NOT to be confused with modern implementation of trying to achieve this in real time in video games" so, what you did
this is why i used the Term Path tracing Not Path tracer.
I am talking about the effect in general not the trechnology behind it
& also I think if we're gonna call lumen a path tracing implementation then the term just doesn't mean anything anymore
ii understand the confusion
the effect in general is called "light"
I know of no other simple term that would fit a generic desciption
Light\ could be confused with standard rasterization
path tracing is not an effect. like you said yourself, it's an algorithm, and software lumen is a very different algorithm. they both try to simulate the effect of light coming from light sources, bouncing on surfaces, then entering our eye, but path tracing is just one category of techniques to do that
lumen is also rasterization though 😜
well the SW path atleast
lumen simply on account of computing AO, GI and reflections separately from one another makes it not path tracing
confusing eh lol
there's also so many ways to do it, and so many methods & "how detailed do we want to implement it" decisions by companies, that to me is the more confusing part
lumen is light raytracing is shadows path tracing is drugs that make it all work out in the end
it reminds me of all the bullshit names car companies came up with for their own versions of variable valve timing
so until society as a whole has a simple way to discribe these featurese that doesnt require a long explantion this confusinmg wil continue
it makes sense to conflate these things if you come from a CG background because basically all offline CG is rendered using path tracing
but path tracing is just one way to do GI & Reflection (which path tracing effectively treats as one and the same)
or until all these companies decide to use a non-copywrited term to describe it
zelda BOTW has a real time GI solution but I sure as hell wouldn't call it path tracing
I get that but there is no other generic term to discribe all this features. Companies make this more confusing by changing the name for the same features even within there own company. It is only a matter of time before Nvidia Reebrands raytracing now the hype is wanning
in gaming PT replaces every rasterized lighting technique
so it does shadows as well 😜
I see most peoples using either "light" or "global illumination" to designate the thing that whatever tech is being discussed is trying to simulate
also why have a generic term? there's way too much variety in the tech for any given term to be able to encompass it all
I was including shadows into GI in my head since shadows are just the absence of light. well in real life anyway
true dat
also worth noting that basically every game that has a path tracing option also has ray tracing based rendering options that exist separately from the path tracer, making that distinction even more worthwhile
because there is a lot of ppl that dont care. they just want things to work
I'm gonna be real anybody who cares that little about the tools they're using should probably not use these tools or discuss them, leave it to someone who can remember names
sadly that's not how corporations work
that is how peoples work though
if you can't be bothered to avoid calling lumen "path tracing" you can just not talk about it
it's hardly ever corporations misnaming these things anyway. have yet to see any company say their game has path tracing when they weren't talking about actual path tracing
People will still talk about it. 1 man will never be able to change the whole world.
To gamers, the end users, it doesn't actually matter if something is technically path tracing or not. Jargon is kind of specific to expert fields, not consumer spaces
The consumer space can't even get storage device sizes right
Most "gamers" don’t incorrectly call things path tracing already
Like this is genuinely the first time I've seen peoples incorrectly call something path tracing. Usually it’s the other way around if anything
And also the thing is that like, it’s not just jargon, it’s actual names for options peoples see in game. It’s not something you have to learn from somewhere else, games already show to peoples that path tracing is a specific thing separately from other ray tracing or GI related things
It's jargon. Technically correct terms for things that only experts in the field would care about is exactly what jargon is
ok i officially have a stupid question
are there any AIBs that use ram as some kind of optane-like cache
Does not parse.
Optane as cache device was way to have slow NVRAM without battery backup or like.
ah
i'm trying to find some use for 2x8gb ddr4 sticks in my current setup 🤣
not that i need it, they've just been sitting in a drawer looking lonely

DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH launches on PC March 19, 2026.
Pre-purchase today.
#stateofplay #DeathStranding2 #DeathStranding2pc #KojimaProductions #pc #pcgames
Better Death Stranding than UPS
And I hope system requirements won't be high (they have not been announced yet)
I cant wait this package delivery simulator to arrive for pc
Ssshh. He is a fan of the games 😄
dead game 2 on the beach
I liked death stranding to personally, but it was a delivery simulator
I was dissapointed, game had my hyped with its epic trailers.
It was so over the top, so visually, crazy, baby eaten by monsters WTF?
And then I saw the gameplay ... which was way less innovating.
And i still played through it all because i had to🤣
But I don't care. Enough games to play 😄
speaking of games iv been playing something way out of my usual recently
nier replicant
It had some really good ideas, music selection was top notch
played it. finished it. overrated.
been fun although i domnt feel its worth the 80 bucks
funny playing a playstation game on a switch controler tho lol
Then I must have played a older NIER 😄
Visuals were stunning, only thing i didnt like was it was all basically deliveries, everywhere
yea automata is cheaper
80 bucks for games, they are going crazy.
Insane lol
They want people to 🏴☠️ it seems.
yea its also like 12 years out of date visually
well yea i did lol
So they added AI to generate assets, code, speed up development.
What game is worth 80 bucks, nuts
How to lose customers 101
Nioh 3 (which looks graphically still the same as Nioh 1/2 imo, and UI is the same) is now 80 bucks.
All they added ... is "open world". (stolen idea from Elden Ring).
80 bucks for this,bullshit
80 bucks is bullshit for any game imo.
I was born when games were about 20 euro or less 🤣
yea granted its like 60usd but its still not worth that
Especially horseshit in this case...
then we had it super stable for a decade or two around 60 euro.
And now suddenly prices go trough the roof. Without a good answer to why.
few years ago, they were throwing 60 dollar games at our head for 1 dollar (sales etc).
And now in "money" trouble and need to increase prices? I smell a lot of bullshit.
I wait anymore for games to go on sale anyways
yea but a decade ago they dident have 12000 employees working on a single game to achieve less
I just don't look at big studio games anymore.
They are;
- The same recipe. Over. And over again. Nioh 1/2/3. Fifa 2024,2025,2026, NBA2026K etc.
- Pricey as fuck.
- Not creative.
AAA is dying anyways, hopefully its finished off soon
probably not since everyone is hyped for FH6 repeating hte cycle for the 47th time but most of them will fail goign forward i feel
80 bucks for a less than 20 hour long game with visuals from a decade ago isent enticing anymore when you can get drastically better for free even
That's not true. They are fully going into AI now to generate assets, audio, code, ....
if anything, they should be able to lower costs for a production of a game.
Why else use AI if it doesn't speed up production and lower costs. No CEO would allow that.
Yep, why i basically dont pay attention to AAA studio slop anymore, obviously over bloated and to much waste
Unless you think AAA studios aren't using AI to generate games ...
and problably if you pay 80 bucks for a game, it still has P2W shit in it 🤣
I know they are, why its turning into slop
and lootboxes/skins/emotes.
But thats also why im now avoiding AAA games, because i know whats happening
also completely unrelated but i forgot to ask
Games released per year = 📈
Quality of games = 📉
Fun games = 📉
Creative games = 📉
Gaming industry has hit the point of mass production garbage.
If you throw enough shit at a wall, something will stick. Or something along those lines 🤣
any of you guys happen to know anywhere good to buy keyboard baseboards online (just the bases no keys, switches, anything) cause i wanted to build a keyboard for the fun of it but finding full size bases is proving difficult
only thing i can find has those volume knobs that offset all the F keys and that would drive me nuts probably
Yep, hence i hope AAA crashes and burns soon
why not a board of actual keys while were at it 😑
You and me both.
the ones you type on
You ask, we deliver 🤣
@pure karma You checked www.keychron.com ?
because they offer costum keyboards, but I ordered a model of them. Never costum

May the AI hype train hopefully die very soon to
Mhm. Trying to remember a website I visted few years ago which had just the cases for keyboards.
they have no full size keybaords in stock that arent fully build already thats the thing
mechanical keyboards has one good result but its on preorder
and it seems to be discontinued so i doubt its real
check link.
currated list of vendors 😄
That's where I would go from personally.
And Herg. But he gone.
yea but i dont have redit and dont understand the mess of a platform it is
I read an article 3-4 days ago, very in depth and posted it here. Warning for the same.
The essence was this; Sam altman once said, they will only introduce ads if things were going bad.
X years later Sam Altman introduces ads into chatGPT or openAI whichever of the two he has. 😄
So the journalist conclussion was; it must be going bad.
Very bad indeed
"I kind of think of ads as like a last resort for us as a business model," Sam Altman, chief executive officer of OpenAI, said back in 2024.
Fast forward to January 2026 and OpenAI has seemingly reached that last resort. The San Francisco-based AI research company announced Friday that it will be introducing ads on its free bot service ChatGPT and the lowest tier of its paid subscription service ChatGPT Go.
I don't think it's going to die. It's rooted too deep. Like a cancer. And now it's too late to stop it.
problem isent they dont have something id want its that they stock fuck all of there products
That sucks 😕
there pretty darn expensive too but thats kinda just how the space is so i cant really judge them
When I ordered from them, I was very happy with the hardware I received from them.
Very sturdy and well built keyboard. Was early days of Keychron though.
Just why cannot they put their switches the same way around as basically everyone else...
With the leds at the far side, and not the near side...
Don't use KDBfans or KDBLab. They seem a bit fishy. Affiliated with Amazon. And China based.
im not in a rush il wait for stock notif from keychron for now ig just a bummer nothing is ever in stock
popular brand 😄 Or low stock to make them seem popular 😉
i have a feeling its a mix of both
because?
Don't light most keycap legends correctly the way they are.
Also more direct leakage in direction of the users from between keycaps.
There is a reddit post about it. Explaining it a bit. North/south facing gives more/less light.
thats true actually since most legends are up top
And why would you want light from between the keys over through the key label?
Basically their "solution" is to light the space between keys.
And not the labels on keycaps designed to be lit through,
Why would I want basically glare from between the keys?
I don't want anything. People be people.
If people like it, who am I to say they are wrong 🤣
Companies like Tesla, Klarna, IBM, and Duolingo all thought they could replace humans with machines. They bragged about efficiency, profits, and “AI-first” futures. But when the robots actually took over, everything started to fall apart. Tesla’s fully automated factory nearly bankrupted the company until Elon scrapped the robots and broug...
But I doubt Keychron is the only doing it, atleast from what I've read so far about north/south.
What a surprise, they tried AI slop, its not working out
Let's replace CEO's with AI.
And everything "below", back to humans 🤣
I hate to speak in hierarchy terms. But the world is what it is.
That might be the only application for AI
and because AI doesnt need these excess pay packages ceo's makes, spread the money around to all employees beneath, everyone news, profit?
High chance that AI is;
- More efficient at being a CEO.
- More productive at being a CEO.
- More ruthless at being a CEO.
Although that last one I am not sure. CEO's are already mostly heartless creatures it seems 🤣
So maybe the empathy of an AI is at the same level as a human CEO, non existent 🤣
Yeah its hard to imagine a AI would be more ruthless, most CEO's by definition are basically ruthless heartless creatures already hahahaha
Plottwist.
CEO's are robots all this time 🤣
The point you raised, also got raised in the post btw Baldur. The limitation of keycaps.
The top one has specialist keycaps designed for south facing leds, and that glare from between the keys is just bad.
And the second one seems to have been selected as very bad example.
Of through-keycap legend lighting with north-facing leds.
Nah, the second one is pretty much my experience too 🤣
Then Kingston did something right.
also, the first one, he angled the camera so more bleed from underneath the keycaps because of angle.
Min and max brightness examples from Kingston HyperX series, not exact same model I have, but representative. (RTINGS)
From another source, another model, at min it seems.
Mhm. I don't know, south doesn't bother me that much. North neither.
And yeah, exposure it a thing when taking pictures.
Point is that it is, that there are fuckton more lit-through keycap options for north-side leds, than south-side.
but not impossible to find south keycaps so?
Try to find any in anything that isn't US layout?
Remember you need to get:
Layout (US vs. International and so on. with different Enter etc.)
Markings (Regional markings)
Material
Stabilizer-type
Bottom-row button widths
Row to Row curve
To fit your use and the keyboard base.
Look south facing keycaps. Not that bad?
And now also if meant for north or south leds on as extra.
US layout.
Don't fit to european keyboards.
Just posting to say the light isn't as bad as you claim.
And further to proof that what I said, the angle of that reddit post was off.
Yes, if you can get south-side designed keycaps.
This angle is top-down. So the bleed is less.
But those are much rarer than north-side.
If you angle camera between the keycaps, yes it looks bad.
But probably also if you do same from north direction of keyboard with north facing leds.
And you look your keyboard from about 45 degree angle?
Not straight up.
So the glare is lesser, as the key stems etc. hide the led.
Keychron keycaps don't have see through labels.
Edit: Recorrected, was right, double-shot but not shine-through.
...
www.keychron.com/collections/all-keycaps (120 keycaps) 😄
Also, my eye fell on this one.
But then I realised, that's going to be a lot of cleaning. Because of the cut outs.
But at least their own V6 keycap sets on that page are center legended...
Say they are doubleshot, but the pics show absolutely no illumination through:
Sorry for screenshot, their site has some stuff in way of getting the pic directly easily.
non-shine-through PBT keycaps
Yeah, same on all of those...
So I did remember correctly that their keycaps don't have lit legends.
They do sell some keycaps that are shine-through, but nothing on that page you linked is.
When you buy a keyboard, but not separately.
Ok, that was wrong, in the full range there are shine-throughs too.
That they are reselling from other brands.
Another k6.
And another.
So not sure why you think they are not shine trough. Mine is too.
But again, getting US-layout stuff in different combinations is easy.
Getting ISO type is hard.
Getting Nordic is almost impossible.
You keep posting US layouts.
I don't care about the layout of my keyboards anymore. Since well, my country uses Azerty.
Just set it to QWERY (windows) and never look at the keys. Because that throws me off 🤣
Keychron has 71 ISO keyboards.
They have the bases, they don't have those with south-side led see-through markings.
Only in north-side labels or non-see-through.
Haha, Nordic impossible? South facing Nordic ISO. Not sure if the keycaps are south facing though.
I known they have Nordic keyboards, just not with see-through labels.
Like with ALL the ISO keyboards they have.
I mean, I like Keychron. Lots of customization.
Yes, and if they did north-side leds, they would be something I would have already bought.
But cannot get usable see-through keycaps in ISO with their south-side leds.
Even ignoring Nordic.
Oh interesting.
Keychron (marketing) reasoning for south:
The south-facing RGB LED is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the users install OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the keyboard.
Yeah, it gives better in-between keys lighting, and that is exactly what I don't like to have.
As I count that as unwanted glare.
Which also tracks with them not having single their brand keycap set with see-through markings to use that backlight for actual label illumination.
Instead of that between keys glare that they seem to love.
Even for US.
They do have US keycap sets they use, but those aren't being sold under their own brand at their accessory section.
But basically as most keyboards for very long time had their main key markings in top left quadrant of the key.
And most lit keyboards also kept that location, often centering it to top-center.
And so most see-through label keycaps are for north-side leds, not south-side.
With Keychron being one of the few doing south-side leds, but not making keycaps that would suit that in actual shine-through for whatever reason.
Basically whoever is charge only cares about that in-between-keys lighting, not label lighting.
For US layout and markings, you can get south-side see-through keycaps.
For ISO, not so much.
And even for US those are much rarer than north-side.
And what I want with lit keyboard, is to have dim lighting for the actual markings, so I can read them in dark if needed for some reason or other.
Utility, not spectacle and glare.
I don't look at my keyboard often. I just type on it.
My mother on the otherhand, she looks at every key and types with one finger.
Neither do I, but sometimes needed, especially for less used special characters at times.
if I really struggle with finding something, OS keyboard.
In my experience, RGB is just preference, fancy and not really needed.
Nothing wrong with RGB for mood or effects. But I rarely sit here in the dark and look at my keys to find something.
Maybe it's just the feeling I can see my keys if I really need too? Not sure.
Just single color red leds for me, at minimum brightness.
And could go lower if the device allowed.
Altough, I did say I never use the numpad on my keyboard a while ago. Which was a lie.
I just don't realize when I use it 🤣
Typing to me, is like walking, I just don't think about it. So I even don't know how I use it.
But a while back I discovered myself that I was using the numpad 🤣
Same here 🤣 But my reason is that my leds are broken. And they can only show red nicely.
As in this keyboard doesn't have RGB, just red leds.
If I use any other color, half show wrong color because broken.
Ah, yeah I put mine to red.
These light between the keys even less, as they are not surface mount type, and the actual light-emitting lens is inside the keycap, with limited direct emitting direction:
Yeah, I read on reddit someone mentioned center leds (neither north nor south).
Yeah, you can some where that stem is light-guide.
Those are just standard cherry ones.
Unlit MX Black with green led:
Best for actual shine-through labels, worst for anything else so not used much in gaming keyboards etc. anymore.
Logitech Romer-G Switches.
If I don't reply Baldur, it's because I have to raid in a few minutes.
Not sure how long it will take, first time we doing it as a guild.
I'm heading to bed right about now, closed other Discord windows already.
Good night sir!
i used to hate the idea of these compact keyboards because i love teh numpad. but now i'm thinking i'll just buy a decent satellite numpad and get one of those compact ones. all the new mechanicals and hall effect keyboards seem to be coming out in those form factors

But sometimes, they go "deep journalist mode" and that's a bit of a learning experience for them too it seems 😄
And it's also so political now.
Ring (the one who made the doorbells?) had to stop a contract with a vendor, because they worked together with ICE. (Which, however your opinion is, is still a goverment funded organisation and body).
Peter Thiel:
I remain committed to the faith of my teenage years: to authentic human freedom as a precondition for the highest good. I stand against confiscatory taxes, totalitarian collectives, and the ideology of the inevitability of the death of every individual. For all these reasons, I still call myself "libertarian." ... But I must confess that over the last two decades, I have changed radically on the question of how to achieve these goals. Most importantly, I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible... The 1920s were the last decade in American history during which one could be genuinely optimistic about politics. Since 1920, the vast increase in welfare beneficiaries and the extension of the franchise to women — two constituencies that are notoriously tough for libertarians — have rendered the notion of "capitalist democracy" into an oxymoron.
In an article published by Cato Unbound (April 13, 2009)
So he threw in behind Trump etc...
Did you see their Superbowl ad?
Scary shit
Who the hell is Peter Thiel 🤣
and why does he sound like a pseudo "intellectual" but is actually saying some really stupid shit.
Palantir guy
Because he is. Rich fuck who owns a mass surveillance company
Money man behind lot of AI and surveillance stuff, and current Trumpism and Republican party.
Either directly or via people he coatched.
I love how his point is "democracy and freedom are incompatible" only to conclude that democracy and capitalism are incompatible.
How did they go from K id to Palantir?
Yeah, to him freedom is having lot of money and being allowed to do whatever with no limits.
And everyone else can pound sand.
Also: "I stand against totalitarian collectives" is hella ironic coming out of this guy's mouth

What is this video.
Epstein? What the fuck has epstein to do with Discord.
A bunch of old rich CEO people doing very shady things with minors.
Peter Andreas Thiel ( ; born 11 October 1967) is a German and American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and political activist. A co-founder of PayPal, Palantir Technologies, and Founders Fund, he was the first outside investor in Facebook. According to The New York Times, as of December 2025, Thiel's estimated net worth stood at US$27.5 billio...
ngl, with everything I've seen about the Epstein files, I'd be surprised if he didn't have any ties to the current Discord bs
Yeah, but I don't get it. Feels like someone is trying to connect politics to Discord descision and not mentioning EU at all
Also lot of other backroom stuff in politics.
Btw EU is also pushing the age thing HARD. ~~Biased ~~vid man. Ok they mention UK act. But that's not really EU.
But yeah, in this case the epstein link was stupid to bring in.
I am going to be honest.
The most surprising news I've heard about the Epstein files recently: Jeff Bezos didn't participate.
The whole Epstein thing everyone is so crazy about?
I can't care less. Everyone has smoke in their hands trying to make a case about it.
I don't know the word, in dutch we say "doofpot operatie". And that has happened.
What everyone is seeing, is likely fake, edited etc.
It's just a distraction for the real world issues the politicians use to keep the peasants chasing their own tails.
It's one of the biggest political scandals of this century, maybe even THE biggest.
I've seen people call it bigger than Watergate and I'm inclined to agree
So they (leaders) can keep doing whatever sshady plans they have.
"Look to the left, epstein files" - and to the right they hollow out the legal system.
That tons of high-flying people were involved, and certainly still are involved even with Epstein gone, in kiddy diddling?
Based on files that were in x people hand, got redacted, filtered, modified. Yeah sounds like a strong legal case. With a lots of pure evidence. And totally no problems when it comes to age of witnesses etc.
ahem, ICE, ahem
Which is also wild to think that releasing the Epstein files is a DISTRACTION from other political bullshit going on
That's why I keep saying it, Epstein is a distraction in my eyes. And I leave the morals of the case out of it. I hate what happened.
But when I look how they "promised" to release "the files" ... cmon thats just a tactic.
As if we get to see the FULL files. We don't even know what happene din prison and how the cameras mysterious got disabled.
DOJ definitely fucked up the release with what they did and didn't redact (also iirc still haven't released everything), but you can just check the data that's available already.
Or you check coffeezilla's second account voidzilla, he did a couple videos on what's in the files
Man... how you not see! "also iirc still haven't released everything" and half the internet is like 99% sure they cracked the case.
It's so crazy.
If it was up to me. Don't release anything.
Do the court dance. When he is guilty or not guilty, release verdict and case to public.
Not release shit half and half and shady to the public.
I read they did redact.
US congressman reveals names of six men whose names were redacted in the Epstein files, including a US billionaire and well-connected Dubai CEO.
Do note that so far we have seen the TAMEST stuff for most part.
Imagine if these files were released in 2010, it would've been a political disaster.
Several politicians in Europe have resigned because of ties to Jeffrey Epstein - and that's in today's political climate where expecting integrity from a politician is wishful thinking
So, a witch hunt on half a story. We're back into medieval times 🤣
Not denying the magnitude of the case. Just how it's all playing out, it's just crazy how they play with us. And I just hope people realised, they are getting trolled/played by politicians with this.
And DOJ seems to still to be doing its harders to keep the the names of the people involved, who aren't the victims, secret.
The FBI claimed they didn't have enough evidence to actually prosecute anyone else who always involved.
That's why they're releasing the files - because people didn't believe them when they said they didn't have enough evidence to investigate co-conspirators
Because there are so many high-ranked people in the files.
Because Epstein was intentionally collecting blackmail material etc.
So how can we judge, we shouldn't.
And what's the citizens, with half the story/information?
When they promised full
Nah, it's just setting people up against eachother, distraction from other goals (Greenland, Iran, Gaza).
They did redact a lot of stuff, especially names of people involved (also entire pages which was a meme of its own), but they also forgot to redact things like names or faces of victims
Also, they sometimes have duplicates of documents which were redacted differently
So, why did you read them? Pure out of interest?
The organizers for the European Citizens' Initiative will be meeting with the EU Commission on February 23rd. I'll be there as well!
on a more possitive note 😊
Basically, yeah.
I wanted to know how far the influence of this conglomerate has reached.
Like, it's not unreasonable to conclude that Jeffrey Epstein played a significant role in filling games with microtransactions
ICE
Don't forget ICE
I know my friend.
ANyone seen "One war after another?"
It got nominated for 13 oscars, and I saw it, I think it was ... something special and else. VERY POLITICAL. (and not even subtle at it ...)
And now I get why it got so many oscars. Just because of ICE. Pretty sure that's one of the major reasons the movie got so many oscars 🤣
Because it predicted what would happen.
ah sorry "one battle after another".
I think exposing that everyone behind a platform is linked to awful people and surveillance is a good thing
I am pragmatic on this one. Not tin foil hat.
Discord is either acting pro-active on this. And then people link it to Palantir, Trump and Epstein.
Just people trying to shut down the platform because its led by terible people and spying on people is a great final straw to justify it
Discord or Palantir? 😄
Honestly probably both but discord in this case
can we first secure a good alternative? And then bomb discord into the ground as a community? 😄
People who know me, know what I think of Discord.
There is none thats the same unfortunately
No. I looked for it yesterday.
There is a few startup alternatives. US based. So it's going to be same issue.
Theres also tons of things relient on discord
Instead, Discord relies on a background “age inference model” that profiles user behavior to classify accounts as adult or teen.
age inference model, sounds like some crapy AI that's going to make a guestimate.
The model analyzes signals like account tenure, device type, activity patterns, and game metadata; excluding message content but not overall usage.
device type rofl 🤣
Im not giving them anything not that i could anyway so if they restrict me im out to the next in line
Profiling people to increase the value of a company is unacceptable
Whats a good way to be able to access TrueNAS from ios, android and windows? I need to to be able to be accessed from almost any device without internet. This is going on a ship.
Access TrueNAS from iOS, Adrnoid and Windows, without internet?
local network? (LAN)
i cant believe i need to buy ram in this economy rn lol
That sucks.
I heard Chinese RAM is trying to take over/fill the gap.
WE NEED YOUR HELP to fund these huge reports - they take weeks to make! Grab a Disappointment T- Shirt: https://store.gamersnexus.net/products/disappointment-pc-2025-censored-cotton (cotton) or tri-blend here: https://store.gamersnexus.net/products/disappointment-pc-2025-censored-tri-blend
You can also support us with an AI DYSTOPIA BACKER PACK ...
atleast i only really need 16GB
i dont see a world where 16GB isent enough for browsing for a good decade
oof.
well my grandma wants a pc so ima just revive the aleinware scraps i have and save her money but buying ram and a cpu is roug in this economy
2ndhand? But yeah, it's not ideal to buy RAM (or GPU) atm 😄
I would opt 2ndhand if for grandmother for internet stuff.
i could save going used but nerver know when a extra ram kit could come in handy
and plus it will outlive any 250$ e waste computer shops will try and sell her
chinese memory will be fine. gamernexus is just hate baiting views by framing it as an outrage story
"they're trying to take over the market"
wonder where i heard that kind of panic from before
Wait wait. What?
I don't see it as something bad. Companies that make memory decided to ditch consumers for AI.
The prices skyrocket. This leaves a gap in the market.
This is how the "free" market and competition works right?
If the Chinese are able to make cheaper and quality memory, I don't care.
but I am a bit worried, the free market isn't as free. And the moment Chinese memory threatens to take over local markets here, some goverments will act.
"We have to protect our internal market against foreign threats" - or some crappy argument. When they are the ones who let this all happen in the first place.
Take the Nexperia story for example etc.
On October 25, 2018, Nexperia was acquired by Wingtech Technology, a partially state-owned Chinese ODM for smartphone companies for $3.6 billion.[21][22][23] Wingtech is partially owned by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).[22][23]
doesn't the us government restrict most chinese chip manufacturers? i don't mean to get political, but i don't think the global market has ever once been a free market. regulation permeates commerce deep
I have to admit, it's hard to talk technology lately without 0 politics.
Because they got really interwoven lately.
And I am not sure anymore. It changes from time to time.
it has been quite volatile as of late hasn't it.
also just to meet market demand. building a factory in north america makes a lot of sense since all these north american companies are like "MOAARRRR"
<@&387163995947270144> guy that got upset about political "bait" is doing the thing he reported on
whoops yup. guess we can't talk tech if it rubs up on any kind of policy. i was worried about that and it does seem unavoidable
I am confused.
idk i come back and read through some of the history in offtopic general and they're talking about pdf folders, so i bring one up as well, then this guy pings the mods and says i'm baiting politics and that it's all i ever do.
bruh
it's on purpose, because if you want to argue : end result is it's directly caused by the screw consumer bullshit
does not matter what you picture on the target, as long as it allows people to connects braincells
Same
I mean basically most of the reason tech is shit rn is cuz of governments🕺🕺
well a few months ago yea but now its mostly ai
it's a bit like a ripple effect, what we see today is still related to what happened few months ago.
no ofc the tariff effects are still there just its no longer the bulk of the inflation
true, and companies don't just change over night.
Real but also with the gov not really restricting ai and such it's even worse imo
I just want better displays
We already have 1000HZ displays
Yes but they're monitors
Monitors do HDR bad just not as good
And also not really I think the best 1440p is like 540hz
Its the same tech 😭
OLED too be specific
What's the actual rez when it's in the 1000hz mode tho
The tech is there just not readily available or useful since top of the line hardware still can barely hold 100fps on most games
Tetris at 1000 fps? 🤣
Probably the same 720P since its a dislay cabling limit
Id say over 100 at 4k is easy
And I'm on a 4 year old GPU
My GPU feels so old
Gets close too a 5090 in raster tho so not too bad
I just want higher than 165hz tbh
I think 300hz at 4k would be solid and max I'd want
But for a monitor def want 1440p 1000hz
Oof
Think next gen g6 has a 330hz mode but it's fucking 1080p like what a joke
i cant even get 100 on a lot of games at 1440P even with my 4070ti and especially not with mostly real frames
i can get 100FPS with framegen and stuff but at that point why bother
7900xtx 4k 100 hz is easy add afmf2 which I don't really see a difference in and that's 200
Still feels better
4k wise I don't think it looks that different
feels better to have more input delay?
But also that's 4k it's not as good on lower rez
If u can feel 10ms then ur a god idk
But 10ms isn't noticeable too me
Takes around 40ms of input lag for me too start being able too tell a noticable difference
msot times i use framgen within the context it adds more than 100ms of delay
@sullen tangle I'm still limping along with a 1060. :D Not even supported by the proprietary driver anymore!
cause in scenarios it dosent i dont need framgen in the first place
I rarely see over 15ms of added lag so
Afmf2 is something I just turn on and don't turn off cuz I don't see downsides
Idk maybe I'm blind or need a bigger screen than 55in too see the issues
Idk doubling my real fps is nice
Yikes!
Well more so game devs don't care enough too optimize there shit cuz nivida keeps pushing and pushing dlss and framegen so like why bother with actually optimizing
I have a spare 1060 3gb oc laying around somewhere
My first GPU was a 6900xtxh tho
most importantly its expensive and time consuming to optimise so companies punish it
The main problem is I've had extremely little pressure to upgrade, really
I hate not being on the newest gen I couldn't imagine
bigger games too. So focus on features, size and content.
yea i get that i was literally playing farming simulator 25 on a mates computer and would have never guessed he only had a 1070
My system does end up limiting the scale at which I'd be able to build in Satisfactory, but my patience isn't really any better than my system's capabilities, so that generally ends up being a non-issue
And now the world has gone into just rip people off because AI, that is just total shit.
And in the old days, the could only fit so much data on a cartridge, so optimization wasn't optional. It was mandatory.
Basically the only thing that I want to do that I currently can't is play Borderlands 4, and the general consensus is that that's kind of shit, so I'm not really even chomping at the bit for that
Cod being 200gb is a joke
Now they can blow up size of games, who cares 🤷♂️
Yeah, indeed
Like star citizen an actually decent sized game is only like 100gb
That pissed me off.
I know what you mean, hell, some surprisingly complex and competent games were made for the commodore 64, not much ram for it.
Star citizen has 0 loading screens and 3 fucking star systems and is smaller than a cod game
Also the gun game in it is so much better than cod
The other "upgrade pressure" I've got is that eventually some component on my system's gonna die 'cause stuff's getting quite old now, and I'd rather be switched over to a new system before that point
And that game is made with spaghetti code
Anyway, we'll see. I don't think I can bring myself to pay current prices, so I'll have to see how it goes
The finest of spaghetti code u could say
Perhaps my frugality will be of assistance when we're all rioting for fresh water. :D
im so glad most of mine are still bellow 100GB when i hear everyone saying stuff like that 💀
I have had like 11 years out of one machine, it was still working when I retired it and passed it on to my partners older sister.
I mean a 9060 is what 300$ maybe 400 really cheap and solid preformace iirc
I'm a cheapskate, though. $300 is already way more than I want to spend for a card
I could care less since I have 7tb but yeah
Ig fair
I think $250 is about the most I've ever spent on a GPU, and even that was more expensive than I liked. :P
I thought I killed my 7900xtx from giving it 800w
and this is why developers don't optimize size 🤣
i have 12TB but that shit dosent grow on trees so space efficent games are rather nice still
Turns out my TV had a faulty HDMI port I almost bought another 7900xtx
I still fondly remember when I could do a complete system upgrade for like $500 (minus drives, case, fans, PSU)
those days are gone. sorry to tell you 🙁
Oh I know. Wasn't even possible the last time I did upgrades (which was when I got the 1060)
My first GPU costed 1500$ lol just the gpu
just did today but not for top end anymore yea
Honestly not even for midrange gear. I don't even go for top-end stuff when I upgrade; I'm quite happy bein' mid.
Unless I go nivida I don't expect too pay more than that for a GPU tho
Please amd don't force me too go nivida
(As also evidenced by the fact that I basically don't care that I've got, like, an 8yr-old system at the moment)
Heh, yeah -- I've been using nvidia basically since the early 2000s but I'm definitely going AMD whenever I get around to these upgrades
Just not the most ideal of times to upgrade 😅
I'm praying I'm fucking praying I can stay amd
Yeah, I really wish that I'd had the mental energy to do it early last year
there dosent really seem to be many good times up ahead either
Personal life just absolutely imploded though and it's only been pretty recently that I've felt I could devote the cycles to it
All they need too do is 32gb of vram and not cuck themselves on power limit so it can match the 6090 that's all I need
You either wait for:
A) the market to cooldown.
B) the market to implode.
🤣
I'm hoping for B, the greedy should be punished.
Both 6900xt and 7900xtx compete in raster against there 90 series counterparts but amd just limits the power so they preform worse
And then ofc they lacked rt but they caught up massively same with fsr
I still fear the collateral damage once that happens. I fear it's gonna be ugly AF
I look forward to the chaos.
Time will tell! :D
Very high chance the ai bubble pops tbh and b happens
Also, there is the steam machine as an option (maybe?).
Don't think there is a price yet.
