I once made a solid effort years ago (2019 or earlier) to train Youtube's algorithm but it was pointless. I couldn't get rid of the random suggestions.
It's especially glaring because it used to be so good before it started focusing on monetized content and hoping you get addicted to the irrelevant crap they try to show.
it was good until recommendations started being for watch % over watch time
the weird thing is streams still use the old system
youtube product manager: "people aren't reading this shit"
also youtube product manager: "imma make people read this shit"
My “home page” is subscriptions. You can filter to just videos.
man what more do i need on my laptop to run this game better? it has a 4060 but the game is taking up a lot of it still even in just the home screen
lower the graphics or stop ussing a laptop really
also the game is generally mostly cpu limited
my cpu was fine
overall ussage and individual ussage are two difrent things
ram fine too i have 32 gigs
heres is an example
just because the overall is 15% ussage dosent mean all the cores are at 15%
ods are at laptop cpu clock speeds you will end up single core bottlenecked fairly hard
well how do i fix that
because my laptop is a beast for other games
just this game is killing it
well for that im ussing msi afterburner but really any monitoring software works
task manager over exagerates and dosent give actual numbers its essentially predicting stuff a lot of the time
ah k
i gets the job done but take it whit a grain of salt
That doesn't necessarily mean anything. Laptops have combined CPU/GPU power limit of, say, 200W. If you've turned all the graphics up and your GPU is sucking up 160W, that leaves you with little CPU power available.
Games that demand a lot from both CPU and GPU tend to be way worse on laptops for this reason.
yea disable stuff like lumen if you have it on and keeps render distance maybe low if you want to actually keep the rest high
my laptop was working whit 3W-15W
cant upgrade a laptop CPU
well you can but like i dont think there is any scenario where it would be worth it
ill have to check if it is socketed or not
Even if you could upgrade your CPU, it's an overall power management issue most likely. If your CPU is limited to 25W during gaming, you'd need to specifically upgrade to a CPU that has really good 25W performance.
its probably not but oh well
yea i dont think i have ever seen a socketed laptop cpu
modern laptops dont really do it
A handful exist, but you need to specifically seek them out, anyone who has one would know.
i have a gigabyte laptop... i doubt they do it but its worth it to check ig
gigabyte stuff is generally solid for the price other than there GPU mounts there stuff is generally solid
but i doubt anyone is still making socketed cpu's for laptops
Even newer Eurocomm machines have dropped socketed CPUs I think?
i should probably redo the thermal paste
There's probably a Gigabyte discord out there, or other user community. Check there for info. In Lenovo Discords we often don't advise repasting because stock is actually good enough that most people won't do better unless they're good at getting mounting prerssure and liquid metal application just right.
alright will do
PSUs too...
so... for the past few days when i go to 'shutdown' my pc... windows pops up this red exception dialog right before it shuts off ... goes to quick i cant tell what its saying or whats doing it (I suspect a recent windows update) .... how or is there somewhere that an exception error would be logged?
event viewer ... seems its something with explorer.exe throwing a popup about something not being able to be written, then it closes out quick
ok, apparently its something to do with a recent windows 11 update and having an xbox controller plugged in ... if i unplug the controller and reboot (error is thrown), a second and third reboot no errors so long as i keep the controller unplugged
found a post about it ... microsoft is aware and say "it wont harm anything, ignore it" ...
the home screeen runs at full frame rate, once you're in-game you can lock it to 30 or 60
record a video of it with an phone
use whatever slow mo it may provide
hmm steam fps counter said it was only going to 80-70 in the homescreen
would that impact it that much?
i don't know what impact you're observing. what i wrote means the screen runs at full frame rate. how complex is the world you're in and what frame rate / energy profile do you shoot for? a 4060 laptop chip isn't the best thing on the planet but it's not nothing, 80 fps homescreen and well above that when just landed in the world is what i'd expect. cap frame rate to 60 or 30 and your fans should slow down
in the amd world we routinely undervolt our GPU's to use less energy so that the gpu throttles less. same should be true for nvidia i think. 99% usage with a 1600 clock is super odd
i murdered the last GPU i redid the paste on, but if you run your machine hard you'll know if you should do it.
the home screen uses the same rendering load as the games average for the graphic setings you have set where as most games use a idle work load
so 70-80 should be your framerate in a empty world esentially
its practically a free benchmark to get a idea of your performance built in
i switched to vulkan and it used a lot less of my resources
im surprised this isnt default
more resource efficient but its generally less stable in a lot of games
only other game ive see it used in was doom 2 lmao
with the gzdoom client ofc
You should also undervolt your GPU if you can. And even lower its power target. You might get better overall performance by lowering the power your GPU gets, to increase the available CPU power.
what
cpu power and dgpu power are not directly related
i could defedently see a shared power amount being more likely especially in a scenario where a didicated gpu is involved
cooling is directly related though
I need some like not so legal advise.
So I agreed to a temporary work period of two days 10am till 6pm.
Assuming that she was going to pay me after the two days.
It ends up that she wants me to work more and won't pay me the pay that I agreed to. I have no clue what I can do about it rn.
She decided that I'm a full employee (against what I agreed) and will be paid payroll wise by end of fucking july
the power budget you are talking about does not make them directly related
it just basically is dynamic power state management
it's not things like uBurst ceiling
She owes me about $201cdn
argue until she either gives up or figure out a legal way altho it wouldent really be worth it
when someone bullshits you bullshit them until they cant bullshit no more
I don't really have anything to add to how I already explained it. If a laptop has a 200W power limit and the GPU is sucking up 150W, it might be better to shift some of that to the CPU if you can.
She's a snake and she's my grandmother so honestly I might see if I can like create a contract for next time.
This is what I agreed to
well the grandmother segment is likely why
she likely wants to cheap out and by stretching the work time hopping she can get away whit paying you less than agreed because you just wont care at that point
she is probably trying to scam you
don't get emotional
as she is actively trying to exploit that she is your grandmother for not respecting their agreement without much drawback
Indeed
I might take this to small claims court.
i feel like odds are likely it would be denied because "a text isn't proof of agreement" or something around thoes lines but it could be worth a shot if your that serious about it
It's retail
So there are witnesses that I performed the work
So it's not just the text
And there's my logged hours
true but if the wage agreement isn't good enough proof than yea you worked but for 0$
unless you signed an actual contract
family pay roll for official work
that can't work legally what ?
There is also this
So she agreed herself to pay me the base rate she pays
$15/hr
Plus travel charges
"like a real person"
ahah so in your grandmother's head you are not a real person ?
Cus I was driving in from 45km away for each shift
Difference between student and min wage
I'm no longer student so I get paid "like a real person"
yet a student is still a real person
Student wage is $13.50/hr vs min is at $15/hr
the issue i see here is that because you never signed any legal contracts you woudl likely run into the problem that you nerver actually worked in the eye of the law so minimum wage/income tax wouldent apply because it wasent 'Legal work" and so on.....
I was signing takes and deductions at my last shift
But because she was not running payroll
I didn't see any reason to sign them yet
that's slavery friendly
work under law is not only defined by contract signing
or it is faulty law
lol
So if everything went as I agreed.
I'd be signing my T4 and going home with. A cheque
people have been fighting for $15/hr for so long that the minimum living wage (survival without tax deductions) is $35/hr
But she attempted to extend my work period without me explicitly agreeing to such
And so far I am unpaid for the 17hrs of labor
That I provided to her
but maybe you're not so much a real person so it's ok you know
Real
I might see if I can walk down to the RCMP and see if they can help me in anything
I literally cannot afford a lawyer
In some laws text is also defining agreement legally
but I don't know the law where you live
(specifically to prevent these kind of abuses)
also don't let anyone pull the "but we're family" BS. if that were true then paying a family member adequately for their time & work should be even less of a problem
and i do hate to say that, but i've seen and experienced more than enough familial extorting like that
it's not unknown that there is more social pressure inside family than elsewhere (because you can't fully say goodbye to it)
and it's officially a main environment for abuses
which makes it an excellent arena for abusers
Yeah I'll probably go down to the local RCMP station they might have a few things they could help me with cus lawyers are fucking expensive and I didn't get paid so I can't get one
don't get your knee shaking because it's your grandma
if your own family is actively destroying you
you must unfortunately seek to get away from it
Oh I'm not scared by her. After the abuse she's pulled on me and my parents and my sister. I want a little bit of vengeance to be very honest. But I also want my money really.
Our grandfather died a year back she is still actively delaying the distribution of his estate
He divorced her like decades ago
(and btw that's exactly why the current social situation is so bad,
because instead of getting help from family, people get fuck both ways, which reduces incentives from employers to be careful)
it's sad that I could sense it at your first two messages
but it is what it is
don't try to hide it to yourself
you'll only make it easier for people abusing you
Oh I know.
I want to fucking take this and make a stink about it as I'm tired of her treating me like a doormat
Cohen do this, Cohen go use your fuel and your car to get us food, Cohen you aren't working hard enough (I literally took a 2.5min break as I haven't stopped working all day)
Cohen get off your phone (my own fucking break to eat something)
There are no scheduled breaks, and any downtime is frowned upon
next time people in your family is asking you for official work
ask for the actual contract to sign and ask for the copies
Oh absolutely
And that time I'll be charging my own fucking rate
And if she doesn't agree to it I don't have to work for her
^
if she is ok with not being a bitch then she'll be ok with signing
no fakes under law
btw that's the classical abuser signature : getting angry because you are asking for simple guarantees that shouldn't be any problem or difficulty if they were completely honest in the first place
and then trying to making it look like you are the one being offensive
just by asking basic simple stuff that's no problem at all
(and yes work paper for official work is basic simple stuff, there is no slavery under family agreement in EU or US, official work hours -> official worker paper, otherwise it's business mismanagement under the law)
though I don't know much outside EU
So I will see if I can get a consult with a lawyer
Get a professional opinion.
So far I'm going to not sign anything
As I haven't.
And demand that I'm paid.
insist on what have been already explicitly agreed upon
that's why text is always better
she can't escape what she already said explicitly
without also being contradicting herself (for instance if "she was not fully awake at that time" then why not consider "she is not fully awake" right fucking now, be real)
the tips is always to deflect on air conversation to WRITTEN agreement or else consider it's null
at any point if being right is being "mean"
then you are not the one who's fucking around
I might see if I can get her to confirm on recorded call that she wanted me to come in those days for that hourly rate
Email is considered a legal document if you can manage it
Texts less so but they can hold up
Even verbal agreements are legal agreements, just that proving that one was done is the painful step.
Well yeah
Need to find USB enclosure for 3.5" SATA drive, that actually allows heat transfer from the drive to the enclosure...
Basically everything today seems to be slide in type, which realistically doesn't allow for much of that.
Even models that try to look heatsinky on the outside.
right, all plastic and cheap crap ... nothing actually provides heat transfer (some cases even make overheating worse!)
Lot of extruded aluminum outsides, but with slide in from one end.
So no way to put any thermal pads or like in there to actually transfer heat.
you may have to end up with just getting one that has a decent controller (the hookup part/board) ... and then dismantling it and make a case yourself :/
Can get adapters without enclosure.
right all slide-ins by design dont really do any heatsink/transfer since it ... slides in ... lol
need a clamshell model, but i have not seen any made from metal
Probably something like this and mod the top install to not be slide on:
That specific thing is sold under many labels.
right, take the top off, then slap one of these on the ssd
Intended for HDD.
"Thin Cooling Pad for 2.5In SSD Heatsink 100x70mm" ? ... most likely scam
Some 2+TB Seagate Skyhawk probably.
alumimum version ... https://www.amazon.com/Supports-Solid-Desktop-Dedicated-Cooler/dp/B0CB1L1Z1M
looks crappy
kind of stupid title ... NVMe SSD ?
Ah, this one is plastic...
i thought all nvme ssd were the thin chip style that stick in the motherboard
No, U.2 and like are a thing.
Just not common.
Uncommon in consumer space, common in server space.
seems other people have asked for what you are looking for, and coming up short too
must not be a high demand to passively cool an external ssd ?
without jury rigging something out of parts
When you have stuff like this:
Trying to look like they would cool the drive, but there is no real path for the heat from the drive to the external surface.
"Efficient cooling"
But basically style has taken over.
With one part extruded aluminum (or plastic) external housings.
Instead of two part clamshells which would be more expensive to manufacture.
right ... 'oh its a metal case!' ... but doesnt have any real contact with the drive... so its basically just a case that isnt easily crushed when some dumbass steps on it
heh, if only this came in ssd 2.5 style
Again, need it for 3.5" HDD.
OH
3.5 hdd ?? wait ... here i thought you were looking for 2.5 ssd 😦
my brain fried on "Need to find USB enclosure for 3.5" SATA drive"
somehow read that as "2.5" SSD drive" ... 🤦
Probably going to get this one, and then put some thermal stuff between the adapter plates and the drive, and then on the rails.
NOW i know why you want it passively cooled!!!!!
And when that thing is supposed to constantly write at 10Mbit/s for years, in hotter than normal room temperature space, with no active cooling.
i had an old enclosure from Calvary, which had a tiny fan in it to suck air through the metal case .... it was dumb, noisy, and ultimately a bad controller in it
Fan is no-go for intended use.
Going to go with that Pi 4 I specced and ordered heat sinks for.
ah
hmm, changing searches to 3.5 sata ..... its either slim cheapy slide in enclosure, or giant raid/nas boxes of doom ...
And in a pinch, I can just saw the enclosure in two and make it into DIY clamshell with some ghetto solution to keep the removed part attached.
lol what the bloody hell is THIS bastardchild device ?!
"ORICO 2.5/3.5 inch SATA/M.2 NVMe SATA SSD Enclosure with 12-in-1 USB C Docking Station with HDMI USB-C hub 10Gbps, 4K@60Hz, 100W PD, Ethernet, Card Readers"
good grief ! im intrigued though
But basically that kind of one-part straight through extruded aluminum part is dirt cheap to make in mass, and only needs that extruding step, then cutting to length, and possibly surface finishing.
And you just screw the end-caps on without doing any thread tapping etc.
yup
So USB docking station with integrated drive(s).
yup .... i mean, its a neat idea ... and would actually replace my gaggle of crap i hang off my laptop... including a usb drive i use for backups lol
it even has an ethernet port in the hub
not many reviews on it on amazon ... one guy trying to put a ssd in place of the hdd and complaining it doesnt support trim and ssd speeds 😉
Review for document shredder:
Mechanism works fine but the product is just cheap plastic, 1 star!
That was only review for shredder I recommended.
hahah
Why would the waste container or the outer shell need to be anything but plastic?
i get a kick out of some reviews sometimes ...
For low end "personal" one.
right ... the shredder i got (some bonsai) ... its a solid unit and works great... but people complained the 'window on the bucket gets clouded up and you cant see the waste' ...
With 12L waste container.
By the waste ?)
exactly ... DUST ... cause its SHREDDING GOOD
"i want clean shred... no dust!"
i want a shredder which turns it to pulp .... lol
Recommended this one, as it had way better specced usage to waiting time than anything else in the same price range:
www.rexeleurope.com/en-ie/products/paper-shredders/rexel-manual-feed-paper-shredders/rexel-promax-qs-rpx612-cross-cut-paper-shredder2/
For P4 shredders.
omg that window will get clouded up! 😄
No "2 minutes use, 60 minutes waiting", but 8 minutes use, 30 minutes waiting.
ah, overheating issues
ive not gotten mine to heat cycle yet... but i dont shred for like a half hour
Yeah, most of the cheap ones are made expecting that the user shreds few documents every day, all the time.
And not for the initial "destroy last 10 years documents".
i got the 8-sheet micro cut ... cause i wanted more security over my 6 sheet cross cut i had
hahahah yes
But when you are able to choose, better to go with the one that can actually cool itself somewhat.
two reems of paper to shred 😄
Wait y'all buy your shredders new and not from an office liquidation?
nope! ... i buy new crap that lasts shorter than old crap
Not lot of opportunities for things like that in Finland that I know off.
The stores that might buy and resell don't really advertise anywhere.
Not what they have, or even that they exist.
As in only want to do B2B, not B2C.
ive never looked here, tbh .... i just cant be bothered
i hate going out as is... but to go out and mill around a bunch of people and fight for product in an auction? naw
Raw price from Farnell would have been 118.11e, will need to pay 147.00e for the same through the local store.
But I expect that much of that is the Pi 4 going up to the standard Finnish retail price, even when I had been browsing Farnells Finnish subversion.
maybe if i needed some $2000 piece of equipment that you can nab for the cheap at one of those ....
Tried to look if I could have gotten the stuff via Mouser, but just couldn't replace the heatsinks easy, as the ones they stocked didn't include same stuff.
And Elfa Diselectric in turn wouldn't have had the Pi, the car stuff or suitable switch (had tried to find the car stuff and switch to include in earlier Elfa order).
I also have a feeling that she's going to try and change the agreement on call. Or if it I ask her to email me
aaaand all servers openssh is updated
Were any even using the GSSAPI?
huh? I patched against the grace timeout exploit
The old version at least only worked if GSSAPI was in use.
Need to find real CVE for the new one, as the OpenSSH own disclosure is just crappy...
Ok, the current CVE text is the same as everyone has been copying without listing the source.
Because most of the details are still under wraps.
CVE-2006-5051 Detail:
Signal handler race condition in OpenSSH before 4.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash), and possibly execute arbitrary code if GSSAPI authentication is enabled, via unspecified vectors that lead to a double-free.
Which is the one that every source says this is regression back to.
So either the old CVE actually didn't need GSSAPI, or the new one isn't pure regression.
But seems from that qualys text, that it is pure regression, and the old CVE description is wrong?
Yeah, "Theory, take one" part talks about that specific point.
Guess what payment terminal works on (reverse atm of about same size)
Some variant of Windows?
Ubuntu
guess which one
or maybe i'm of wrong age to be surprised to see it still being used
Server 2008 most likely
Not going to even try when I have no idea when the specific one was created.
Because it almost certainly uses the one that was the current or one before when it was put into production.
thankfully its not thaaat old
nailed
Are you sure it's not server 2003?
That seems far more likely and it has the XP interface
a surprising amount of important stuff runs on XP still tbh
i wonder if it means that it has bugs of same age
XP had specific version for that kind of use.
would it display XP logo when booted?
So no, interesting
But anyways, a lot of the municpal water supply stuff I work with still runs on server '03 or '08
XP Embedded was supported until january 2016.
so much water flowed since then
And Windows Embedded Compact 2013 was supported until October 2023.
Ok, that was the last Windows CE, not Direct XP based.
Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 was still XP based and had the support end in April 2019, as last XP based Windows version.
And the Windows Embedded Standard 2009.
Got replaced by Windows Embedded 7, then 8 and 8.1.
Then to various Windows 10 based Windows IoT Enterprises.
All which are still in support.
Latest which seems to be Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, which will have support until January 2032.
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise versions also seem to exist, but have shorter support periods.
that's looong. wonder how often this will cause switch to it with promise "we will get security updates for 8 more years" while in reality it will just be as old
Because those are meant for embedded systems, some of which still use for example DOS to this day.
Because the machine they control has been in use since 80s.
And IIRC I just read that MS is still selling new lisences for that last XP Embedded (2009) version until 2026, but cannot refind it.
No it was for sale until early this year, and it was the Embedded 7 that will be for sale until 2026, even though the support already ended.
That 10 IoT LTSC 2021 will be for sale until near end of 2031.
most of those machines on are on networks that have no access to the outside, or are behind a firewall thats a VPN client that connects only to the controlling server
Basically all the known hacks on ATMs etc. have been physical access things.
It's less so how old and hackable the old systems are and more the kinds of firewall/network they're behind.
Hospitals use alot of windows xp stuff.
Because the equipment manufacturers don't bother to upgrade the OSs for the access machines for their machines.
Or make their programs support newer OSes so that the local IT could upgrade.
And after you buy diagnostic machine that costs from hundreds of thousands to millions, you cannot just switch it because the maker is ass on the OS support front.
Quite a bit of those systems have the If it works why fix it mentally.
It's whatever the manufacturer had available currently to make it work, and when you've got a multimillion dollar mri machine, having it down because of an "update" Isn't really acceptable.
XP probably
A lot of ATMs could probably be pwned remotely if you could get to them through all the firewalls
Kind of a "sure, if you can get through the vault door, there's not much protection"
😆
fort knox isnt very secure when you get past the gaurds, the doors, the gates, the guns, the explosives ... I mean seriously, wtf place they running there?
Without any external alert being allowed for reinforcements to be sent.
right 😄 splinter cell those fuckers and knock them all out before anyone gets to the alarm!
man i miss that franchise ..... shame they never made more
IIRC the later games descended into idiocy and bad mechanics both.
You might have repressed the memories of those.
just the last one
IIRC it was much more gradual, but can be bad memory on my part.
yeah, it did start to turn ... i think cause they felt urged to add 'more mechanics' to an already working formula
Starting from around the half-way point of the published ones?
I believe this would go hard with a PCB tie
chaos theory was good
I will probably get the Heilos stuff tomorrow.
Nah you just disable the alarm by plugging your phone into the conveniently exposed USB port
i just lost my microsoft account on which i had my minecraft and forza i don't know why but i cant login anymore my pc got blocked from entering microsoft support so im not even able to go into support i don't know why and my whole browser got killed by the support like i can't open or close it anyymore it's just open can maybe someone help me
Have you tried restarting your pc?
Maybe they've got ip cameras that aren't on a isolated vlan, just unplug an exposed camera and jack in
Speaking of.. that was probably a bad oversight on my part.. I should probably get around to fixing that
yeah
I didn't think about someone unplugging one of my cameras and using it to get into my network until now... granted where I live that's about the same chance as someone using a flipper to open my garage..
Wost case, just mac filter for the cameras
Both have really low odds lol
You can still spoof it but it's a pain to do
Or as you said, just throw em in a vlan
All things considered I have every corner of my property covered, and stepping onto it sends an alert too.. but it'll give me a homelab project
You run an av scan from defender?
Do
Unplug your pc from the internet
Does sound like you've got some sort of malware
Microsoft support locking you out and killing your browser doesn't sound like something they'd do
Is there any critical data on the system or anything you don't want to / can't lose?
yes
Unplug it now
i got bullied by microsoft support once
Disconnect it from the internet
Likely not microsoft support
Turn off wifi/unplug it
Go to discord on your phone
Maybe. If not it sounds like they've been pwned.
Wolf I do feel we might be getting trolled
Sure does
"Microsoft support" always makes me worried
Scammers like it use it.
I've been getting alot of these lately..
With a pdf and everything to download..
Same here
Lots of those and lots of calls that ring but there's nobody on the other end of the line when I pick up
First one said it was a Bitdefender invoice. That one is new.
Both with a tainted pdf.
We lost 'em
Yup, troll or not. lost to the void
Maybe I should setup a vm and download and inspect those pdf's and text files I keep getting lol
I would think Gmail scans all of that stuff for extra code that doesn't belong.. so they're probably just convincing invoices telling me to call this number for questions and support
the point of course is that most of us here are relatively tech savvy
they send that sort of message to some granny who got a laptop so she can talk to little billy while he's at university and they're going to be rolling in it
For the most part we are.. and yeah.. they know exactly what they're doing
Today I learned the hidden horror of rclone.
It stores your account passwords, symmetrically encrypted...with a static key in the source code.
@jagged snow finished the new case build. I love the h6
Nice
i don't say this very often, but maybe some custom cables would be in order 🤣
It looks fine from the front 🤷♂️
why did you put the rad fans on the back as intake?
there literally are custom cables in there (well, extensions)
Check out the Fractal Design Define S2: http://bit.ly/2Pc0FwC
There are a ton of options for custom sleeved cables right now, so I figured I'd do a roundup discussing the differences between today's most popular options and my experience with each.
Some of my favorite cable options:
Wazzmods: https://wazzmodz.com/
Ensourced: https://www.ensou...
it's a nightmare for compatibility checking
lol true
i meant aesthetically
i've always found something weird about the side fan trend, & it's because it's 90° off of what the airflow should be
how does it look with everything closed up?
exactly
you overestimate the importance of case airflow. It's a few degrees maybe (in a well designed case) - and then there are the likes of H510 Elite too
also, the point of it is to have a front panel window - it's purely an aesthetics decision, not a functional one
yea true, i guess at the airspeed they run at it's not overly important
also rip evga gpus, i see the psu
EVGA psus have been absolutely rock-solid for me
I have a 1kw unit from 2013 that's my bench supply and a 550w unit that handles a bunch of my charging equipment
And a 750w in my daily
As the normal fans do more then enough job to handle the rad. And I don't want to use nzxt shitfans
but also i'd be fucking impressed if a 2600/1660S could fry a 750W evga 🤣
much too pricy
i'd love it if case manufacturers would offer custom cable length suggestions
why not use the RGB fans as intake?
ever had N1 or W1?
ay atleast the NZXT shitfans are quiet
if they are quiet, they perform like shit
if they perform decently, they are loud as shit
NZXT fans aren't good (maybe the new ones they announced at computex, we'll see)
They are 3pin
And need another fan zone.
Noise alone isn't important. Noise-normalized performance is what matters
So they are garbage
Didn't like the placement
remember: a fan that doesn't spin runs at 0dB
idk the ones i got whit the H9 push like double what the the al120vs's push and are like 4x quieter
The rad fans I used on the front are really quiet as well even at full speed
that sounds like either you have some super flawed methodology or there's smth wrong with the AL120V2
fairly certain it's the first one
i have 6 and there all loud so i doubt its a mechanical problem
I might swap to all arctic
can be fan curve
or improper setup
or anything really
the fan curve isent a factor when they are loud at all rpm's
because there is no shot they are at that advertised 40DB
I learned that trusting personal experience before professional testing is a gigantic fallacy
or there is a lot of turbulence or something
did you even try quantifying anything you are talking about here?
not much of a point, Thermalright has them beat for value on case fans

not loud at all lol
now i wanna see GN test that
Now I want to print a shroud for those so I can mount 9 of them on a 120mm Rad
And then populate my 360 rad with 27 of them
I have some in my proxmox server.. I had to get a potentiometer based fan controller because the bios didn't allow for much in the way of custom curves. at 100% they move some air, but it sounds like a jet engine at takeoff thrust.

why do brits pronounce slow as slow, and not slow ?
What is the label for people who do not like AI? Surely the people who come up with labels for other people have come up with a label for people who hate AI ...
ant-ai 😛
LOL!
thats funny ... antai ...
artifobist - artificial intelligence phobia - one who is not afraid (despite wrongly using the term phobia in this case), but rather dislikes, artificial intelligence applications and systems.
I've talked to literal homophobes before.
People who would actually gag if they saw two men kissing.
I think it came from xenophobia which was later applied to politics.
Anyways, I like the German adaptation of using "Feindlichkeit" (hostility), applies much better
if only they knew what phobia meant ...
its a fear... not dislike, not disgust, not annoyed ... just afraid of it ... like afraid
Im cry
Thats melting time.
Was just in the nice cold rain of PNW too :(
Not exactly but yes.
A phobia is a pathological fear - and just like any other medical condition it can show different symptoms.
Yes, the word phobia is overused in modern language, watering down its original meaning - that goes for fears too btw. Some people think that it's arachnophobia when they see a spider and want it gone.
Anyways, language changes and it's just petty to cling onto supposed meanings in a context where the intended meaning is clear.
and people who use labels, are petty 🤷♂️
Have you ever tried doing cable management without any labels on the cables?
It works on a small scale but at some point, labels make things far easier.
Just make sure you apply labels properly and to the right things, otherwise things get even messier
imo the biggest issue in modern society and especially online discussions is the rejection of nuance
You gotta admit yourself that this message is super petty and kinda provocative - I'd say intentionally
At least the Thermalright Heilos is cut from same stuff as the PTM7950 LTT sells.
White and transparent non-colored films, when the old PTM7950 pics have blueish instead of white film.
But it is crudely cut with machine from larger roll or like, having one of the original sides and three cut sides.
And then packaged for retail.
I'm so happy it's cool this week
@pastel lion It doesn't matter if soldering the plug or the socket, both have usually the same solder tab lengths.
Ah, PCB version.
So tip is the one farthest away from the insert hole, ground is the closest.
Easy to measure with multimeter.
if only I had one
Possible power feed is the middle instead of second channel.
Signal on tip, power on ring, ground on base.
which one are we talking about again
The smaller one for the which is which talk.
For the other cannot tell from the pics easily.
hold on
please, please tell me that the small socket has microphone support
aka all four pins, left, right ground and mic
Normal mics use just 2 or 3 pins.
The fourth pin is only with ones that combine both mic and headphones, like phones etc.
So what are you actually trying to do?
What kind of mic do you need to connect.
And what is the mic plug going to be connecting to with the connectors?
You are trying to solder a cable to the female sockets?
Or something else?
Because those sockets are for PCB mount, not cable.
So almost certainly uses just 2 pins.
Tip and base, ring(s) not used.
Just signal and ground.
Leave the https:// off
it's the scheme I'm following, wanna put the big (instrumental jack) on the left, and the small one on the right
and then connect it to my laptop's combined input via a splitter
1 male 2 female connectors, that kinda thing
and an aux cable for the scheme - splitter connection
And as the scheme shows, only 2 pins for both in there.
Tip for signal, base for ground.
For 4-pin inputs, ground is second ring (next to base), mic is base.
But you don't have 4-pin 3.5mm socket, only 3-pin.
So for the 6.3mm one, you would need to check which leg seems to be connected to the contact closest to the entrance for the plug (ground).
And which is the farthest to entrance and closest to the legs (tip).
And leave the middle one unconnected.
For the 3.5mm, you would need another part to be able to use 4-pin to 4-pin cable to output to anything.
FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.
I need to kill an electronics store employee real quick
The 3-pin is the most commonly used one.
If you didn't specify exactly enough.
The 4-pin is basically only used on phones and laptops.
I said I need a female connector with mic support
And that can easily be understood to mean 2 or 3 pin variant, which is what is used for mics outside those two niches.
@twin dew can I cut an aux cable and just solder it directly?
cus the 3pin connector costed me 6BYN, while the 4 pin one costs 33
divide by 3.3 to get USD price
Yes, you can just cut any cable with right number of contacts and solder that direct.
Just need to find what conductor is what somehow.
Usually easily done with multimeter or like, but if you don't have one, then it can get harder.
dammit
The cable might use standard colors, or might not.
And cannot know what colors there are before cutting it.
And even if the wires are the standard ones or close, cannot know if they are actually used in that way or not.
I guess I'll buy the expensive connector then
@twin dew sorry for a late ping, but this looks like the one I need, right? (shop photo)
I did code violations
How much is the main breaker?
That's not a main. That world definitely be a code violation. That's for our generator
But.. too fucking much.. almost $100usd
And a 60A is $20
So 20 more = $80 wtf
Meh, electrical standards are built for overkill to protect against people who don't know how it works. Honestly that's pretty clever.
I built a shed and never finished it.. it was fed through an extention cord and one day I was going to get some underground 12/2
Then we decided to get a 20kW generator
So now I'm going to bury 4awg /3 use-2 and I have to drive a groundrod and ground it separately from the main house
Because it has a panel it's no longer a branch circuit but a feeder, and since it's a seperate structure it's required to have a groundrod
The generator came today too.. damaged in shipping :/
Badly packed?
Oof, yeah, no packaging is going to protect against a good fall
Well it came in a crate.. thing weighs almost 700lbs
i see generator and immediately want to know "why? what for?"
my generator was delivered with a good dent , right near its external frame. came in just a cardboard box, no wood.
It's hurricane season.
That has 4 contacts, and is probably 3.5mm size.
So should be right one.

This is our most in-depth CPU cooler review & benchmark yet. We test Noctua's new NH-D15 G2 for thermals (Intel & AMD temperature testing), acoustics, frequency response, flatness, pressure, and more. The benchmarks also cover Noctua's three alternatives for the Noctua NH-D15 G2, ...
There should be also old AMD testing platform tests with more coolers.
That is the new Intel 14th gen testing platform.
Also, isn't 13900K the worst CPU on the market in terms of coolability?
14900KS is the worst since it's a binned 13900K
That actually makes it easier to cool
Also, 14 series improved a lot in terms of manufacturing - which also reduces heat output and power inefficiency
13900K is harder to cool than 14900K
Can go to higher power with higher max voltage and frequency.
i think the problem is when they choose to just rebrand a good performing 13900K into a 14900K
And because 13900KS is better binned than 13900K, it'll also behave better
Except they didn't
didn't AMD get busted for doing that?
They didn't change the architecture, design or specs of the CPU, but they did improve on it
The manufacturing is a lot cleaner
Not in the environmental sense, in the sense that there are less inaccuracies in the CPU itself
i wonder if the true pita cpu is a "barely" 14900KS
Again, 14 series is always better behaved than 13th gen.
So 13900KS
so the worst one would be something that barely counts as a 13900KS then?
pushing the power/voltage to get it to perform well enough to qualify
There was a super fascinating writeup on this from one user on the pcpp server.
Very detailed, highly technical, super informative.
Idk if I can link the message here, I'll see
#197079805710041088 message
Looks like I can
It's not about benchmark performance tho, it's about overclockability
oh i mean intel doing the one pushing it to qualify
so something that can hit the spec, but only if they push it to the limits of what counts as "stock"
& given intel's loose standards & definitions lately.........
but yes, i think you're right that the 13900K is probably the worst thing to cool right now
Custom loop, direct die. So little to gain with overclocking still. So my 13900K is on Intel defaults now with the "new" BIOS that they provide
The Extreme or the non-extreme (don't remember the name)?
Think it was performance/extreme
Yeah. Performance clicks in the head.
CPU rendering some motorsport videos with Racerender3 software might be the only real world use that loads the CPU with all cores for me. Now that I remember maybe check how the CPU temps are during that on next renders
Modern dirt bikes are nice as you can log some ECU parameters from the OBDII/CAN bus. That Tactrix openport adapter can save it to a microsd card as *.CSV and then use the data to show RPM or throttle position synced in a video.
lmao
What is so laughable about that Pi 5 passive cooler?
it is just flat, goes to the wifi chip but not the i/o chip
Not usually.
look
Name and/or manufacturer for that specific cooling block?
waveshare com /pi5-active-cooler-c.htm
Flat bottom.
So will only contact the CPU, and might easily go little sideways and only contact edge, as the CPU isn't exactly on the line between the mounting holes.
imagine going length of producing and shipping this
"Thermal pads on the back", but in the image all are same height, so will only contact CPU.
But the marketing is pure china type.
Yup, and will probably cool the CPU fine.
And with thick thermal pads would cool the other chips under too.
But what comes with it is unknown, as the marketing "pic" (probably renders) ones are all same thickness.
I was searching for passive heatsink kit for pi 5
that is close to this one, but going just a bit further, and connecting all the chips, with matching thickness and a bit longer fins (it's easy to cut if needed anyway)
just weld some aluminum fins to the SoC, it'll be fine
found that
but fins are not oriented like I'd like D:
maybe I could just cut it and slap it in the way I like
dont need all the stuff to be connected and it's cheap
Relatable.
Found out why my raid array won't show
Raid controller doesn't have a driver on windows yet
linux time!
Found the driver
I think the raid controller is doing a funny
And basically using the SSD as a giant cache
As it has SSD transfer speeds
But is a mixed between SSD and hdd raid
if the Controller is not aware of this fact, you can (and will) lose data
Controller is aware
And configured as such
great!

Guess what, that video is bogus. He said he paid how much 170K TD? Thats 5560 dollars, those laptops at the 1:46 min mark are 380 dollars. When in big tech world, tech is cheap. He overpriced for what reason? Boosting the economy for Taiwan?
Or did he artificially just launder some money
Wallet hurts. Just had to upgrade my phone due to my drone creating so much data and my old one having issues.
how does one parse out generator water consumption? mSupplementalToPowerRatio is an entirely wrong coefficient (10) between power gen (75) and water cost (45)
That wasn't about the laptop

Meanwhile, this clown is stealing my Server Meshing thunder. I've been ranting and raving about how crazy it is to allow people to float freely on the backend like this. If someone was smart, they'd create a zero day based on this technology. You have access to any portal in the network lol. 😉

I think it's (mPowerProduction / mTickExponent) * mSupplementalLoadAmount, but I'm conferring with someone else
My boss accidentally wrote-off my laptop and I can't use it today since AD domain is no longer working and I can't access emails. Guess I got a free vacation today 🤣
The IT department also made the mistake and they approved writing-off my laptop without checking if anything is suspicious or illogical lol
At least I will be getting a new laptop
just saying AD is giving me sickness
why do people want to use undocumented shit so much
like why use something that made adding a user a trap escape game
I... I think you're using it wrong
Maybe the IT department saw me using an older laptop and approved writting-off my laptop by "accident" so I can get a new one 😁
Did they like write-it-off write it off or did they just remove it from their AD?
Although it only happened because my boss made the mistake in the first place so I am lucky lol
Because then you could just keep it for personal use lol
They removed the laptop from AD and it's no longer considered a company property
Nice free server
And since the laptop is no longer a company property, you can't use it to access any company resources or network
And since it's no longer company property, finders keepers
I don't think I can just take it for free though. When the laptop is written-off, an employee can buy the laptop from the company for a small amount or simply give it to the company
If you give it to the company, they will probably give it to recycling companies or do something else with it
How's your standing with the it department?
Can ask them if it needs to be returned (off the record obviously)
Asked my coworker about it. Apparently, once the laptop is written-off, it's gone for good and you have to return it to the company for disposal (unless you decide to buy it from the company)
Both laptop owner/boss and IT department have to approve writting-off a laptop in order to avoid mistakes but in my case both made a mistake lol
The first one probably made a mistake because we got drunk on wednesday and the it department didn't bother to check anything and they simply approved it lol
We didn't get drunk at the company during work hours though
IoT breathalizer required for writing off laptops?
Don't give companies any new ideas lol
The laptop is probably 5 years old so I was supposed to get rid of it anyways
last place I worked at got rid of the linux dev laptops cos it was too much effort to remotely administer them
they also didn't resolve the migration issues between rounds of devs being migrated over

So basically worth nothing.
Seems I have thrown my miniHDMI adapter(s) away at some point...
So no testing the Pi 4 right now.
CPU sink fits tine, same for the USB one.
One memory goes right on too, but the other one needs cuts for the two capacitors.
And the one for LAN chip also needs tiny cut at one corner for the largest capacitor.
The stupid thing about the adapter is that after I picked up the Pi, I went and shopped in two stores that would have had such adapter for sale.
SSH into it
I'm fucked too if I ever had to connect directly to my Pi. I also have no mini HDMI or whatever the pi 5 uses
Yeah, forgot you don't really run installer on the device itself.
And seems they now have Bookworm even for Pi 1.
So I can safely overwrite the card I have for the Pi 1, do the testing, attach the heatsinks, test again.
And leave the Pi 4 waiting for me to buy the right memory card for it.
Well, more for me to buy new memory card for my dashcam and repurpose the one from that to the Pi 4.
64GB Samsung Endurance card.
Can't the pi4 already boot from USB out of the box? Or is that only a 5 thing?
Pi 5 only IIRC.
Need the firmware on SDCard as minimum for Pi 4 and before.
The OS can be on USB.
But don't have the USB HDD yet either.
And easier to reuse the SDCard than muck around with USB stuff.
Linux logs too much by default.
For the log files to live on USB stick or most SD Cards.
Wear the FLASH way too fast with that.
I think raspian has reduced that by default tho
Otherwise they'd burn through SD cards
Wasn't the case for the Debian 11 based Raspberry Pi OS I installed for the Pi 1.
SystemD journal was still being saved on the normal location and wasn't temporal by default etc.
IIRC.
Ok, seems Pi 4 with later firmware can boot from USB without SDCard?
Or at least once booted once with SDCard with specific bootloader config to trigger that.
Pi 4 Model B, 400, Compute 4, 4S and Pi 5 are the ones where the USB boot is available.
So again wrong memory that it was Pi 5 only.
Just something that got added to Pi 4 after launch.
WLAN njet stable.
No, the WLAN connection is ok.
Connected to the AP at xx:44 and has been connected since then.
Just that the connection from my computer failed multiple times?
While my computer could still ping another computer, it couldn't ping or connect with SSH to the Pi.
But seems that installing the Raspberry Pi OS without graphical desktop broke something related to network functionality, as the log contains stuff about not finding dbus-org.freedesktop.network1.service.
Still configured to use specific GUI tools.
Which aren't available.
systemd-resolved not installed.
Debian only split that to separate package during Bookworm in late 2022.
And might only have made to Bookworm from unstable and testing in 2023.
But something weird going with the WLAN.
The base connection stays up with the AP, but the actual connectivity comes and goes.
LAN works fine.
As expected, I need to tear down some stuff being used by default for the networking, like the NetworkManager, instead of SystemD.NetworkD.
But need local display for doing that.
Weird thing is that I'm, pinging the WLAN IP with two different computers, and the "Request timed out" don't happen at same time.
But seems to be something weird on my AP, as not getting the problems when both sides aren't WLAN connected...
Yeah, I have some major config issue for WLAN to WLAN traffic.
Which I haven't used before.
Need to reset the AP to defaults and reconfigure it less.
Used that now because I have firewall blocking most traffic between WLAN VLAN and LAN VLAN, including SSH.
But now for some weird reason I cannot connect with SSH from LAN to WLAN Pi4, even when I should have firewall rules allowing for that...
And for internal-to-internal it should reject, not block.
So is there some firewall/block in the Pi4 default config?
It didn't have any NFTables rules.
So to main firewall rules debugging...
Seems to only been that the Pi didn't like being on two networks at same time.
But need to move it to NetworkD anyways.
So I will need that HDMI adapter to get local control, because fuckups without networking is to be expected.
that is still wrong
doing it for coal plants gives 75/5*1000 = 15000, not the expected 45000

for nuclear it gives 2500/5*10000=5000000, which is far too large (compared to the expected 240000)
in both plants the ratio between power and water is an infinite decimal, so coefficients like 5 will never be the answer
nuclear is 10.4167:1 and coal is 1.667:1
and the fact that the water consumption is in both cases constant with respect to fuel means it cannot be a property on the fuel item itself, or a result of one (eg mEnergyValue)
Coal is 5:3
There, fixed it
Lots of satisfactory in the no-satisfactory channels 🤨
ngl rock 5c looks nice
waiting for the pi5 new compact poe hat, and more info on the 2.5gx2+nvme hat
how long should I run memtest86 to make sure my ram is flawleOC
48h
Infinite time?
Usually 1 pass is enough for basic testing if you haven't OCd the RAM.
And with OCd RAM, just Memtest isn't enough.
It doesn't find all types of marginal timings.
yep memtest is targeted at chip test
not timing test
this is entirely about SF
Ya ain't reading channel descriptions?
There's satisfactory chat, satisfactory media and off topic
This is off topic.
The channel description says so too
Aluminium dust, so healthy.

Heat sinks modded.
Have to see if I can be bothered to go get the HDMI adapter tomorrow or not.
well yea, the cables keep it in place. isn't that what cable management is all about?
Need to find the best way to get the Pi 4 OS onto BTRFS...
Well, not best, but good way.
But seems I will probably need to use separate Linux computer with the memory card reader.
And not going to use SDM.
At least if I cannot find option for it to do stuff on the first boot of the created card.
Don't want sdm-firstboot stuff in the resulting OS.
And the AP fuckery might have been because I forgot to change the Wireless LAN country for the Pi.
So it might have been bouncing between GB and FI.
oh I misread what herg said
that said the people in #satisfactory complained when this discussion happened there, saying to go here
so which is it
apparently if it's too techy for casual game talk, it's automatically tech-talk - #math-and-meta exists and is the perfect place
it is not really that either
this is not about math or even game ratios with an eye to playing the game
this is about the docs.json's data, and parsing thereof
for the purposes of an external application
is it about parsing ANY json and just so happened to be Satisfactory?
that'd be more the modding discord imho
probably, yeah
no it was about parsing the specific SF JSON, ebcause it is not about the JSON structure but the data within
^
that's modding discord then
cuz this is essentially modding - even if it's a separate tool without any direct ties into the game
where could 600MB come from?
some system app that was loaded once and the OS deemed fit for swap?
should not change the swap size itself
unless there is some weird dynamic swap size going on
or its a difference in GiB and GB
Which printers suck the least? Dont need anything fancy.
brother laser printer
Brand wise tho. Which brand doesn’t suck the most?
brother
As in will try to screw me over
my family has owned two and theyve all broken
fill em up with tannerite 😍
Oof. I didnt realize you were talking about an actual brand
Yep, Brother
absolutely brother
yea but weve gotten the cheap ones on clearance that no one wants
all the HP and other are even worse
I'd rather fail a class because I can't print than to get a hp
id just go to the schools library
How bad is canon and epson?
or you could get a printer for the work place that has a pull out qwerty keyboard
those with the slow ass touchscreen?
hell ya
nah the sharp mx-m5071 at our office is pretty decent
man I never had a good screen at an office printer... they print really nice, but the interface was always horrible...
it staples the pages too
Really? Wow
at my old place it could put it into an envelope for you
Is canon and epson just as bad as hp?
aint no way, now I need one of those
was crazy
Tf? Thats wild. Never knew any printer could do that
ok but do you have one of these HP DesignJet T1700 44(yea its hp 🤢 )
afaik yea they have scummy business practices
Ok. Wont get those then. They seem to be the only brands in actual stores tho
Because of the scummy business practices of the aforementioned companies.
It's hilarious how bad printing still is in 2024.
They are for only profit and not quality
I understand a company needs profit but holy shit
Microsoft is probably in on the printing game in some way. That was one of the more amusing things about the LTT series on switching to Linux, how Linus' printer just worked in a way that it never would on Windows.
How did it work differently?
He plugged it in and it just worked on whatever Linux distro he was using.
framework printer when
cups, apple developed
yeah cups is great
I already have that one. Just forgot which game it was
I have all of them I believe
wtf, ours been going for 10 years or something
Maybe the 10 year old ones are better?
I think herg made a bettr point
stop shooting em 😂
These ones are solid normally.
Brother HL-L2400DWE
Also fair in price, 121 euro.
Downside: only black and white. But I never need color.
eh, talking about total volume
i definitely didn't confugre it...
oh waiti have parition of that size, that is active
but why on earth would i do that for such volume?....
idk
my dad has had this since the dawn of time
never had issues other than the price of cartages
honestly i think at this point i have just accepted the fact my pc is a absurd heater
its 30°C in my room
its a basement room
the heating is set at 20
By default Windows uses dynamic swap size.
i mean yeah im in a small room, and my pc GPU runs at around 50c when i play satisfactory and it causes my room to heat up a little
its worth it
sorry this didnt look like windows monitoring
No idea what OS.
As nothing was specified about OS or program.
there is a difrence whit a 100W 80C and a 250W 50C and im learning the 100W 80C is hella superior when it comes to room temp lol
my 4070ti is too efficient at cooling itself
But seems he possibly uses Ubuntu?
im running 4060ti ventus 3x
50c is great temp to run considering satisfactorys resources
its great until your room temp is trough the roof because of it
But then he should show the swap settings to show what size the swap should be.
i tought he was on mobile or something but maybe that was someone else
it sucks bein in my situation, not having room nor relationships nor budget for get hardware/information related to SbC/uC, but being interested and wanting to give my 2 cents
SbC? uC? In this specific case?
I knew the terms.
Just couldn't decode the acronyms without context, and they didn't give nice results on quick search either.
But I got the HDMI adapter, and the outputs work.
So I can now move to sticking the heatsinks on.
Hihi
55 euro and can print around 1200 pages.
first HP cartridge I could find, also black: 33 euro and can print 240 pages in black.
0.045 euro per page (brother) vs 0.137 euro per page (hp). So, more expensive, but more pages 🙂 And per page, cheaper.
Now take this all with a grain of salt, the data comes from a vendor, I don't know what quality they used when printing etc. Higher quality uses more ink etc.
I read someone claiming the HP one can only print 80 pages. Not sure if that's true 🤔 Wouldn't surprise me both vendors "boost" the pages to more than what it is.
There is now standardized test sheets for grayscale and color.
But the cartridges that come with the printer are way underfilled by design, often to somewhere around 10% page count compared to the smallest replacement.
But for full-page color printing, the fill of the test is way under.
The grayscale is around 5% fill IIRC, and the color might have been around 10-15%.
So the numbers should be comparable between printers and vendors.
But aren't 1:1 to actual usage.
Laser printer gang
Color laser printer gang here.
My printing costs for black&white/greyscale should be around 0.032€ per sheet, including the waste toner container at 30k pages and imaging units at 48k pages.
Doesn't include the paper.
And I don't believe I will ever have to replace the imaging units in actuality.
And probably don't need to ever replace the waste toner container.
Xerox WorkCentre 6515 DNI
Was the cheapest laser I could find with double-sided print & double sided document feeder scanning.
again, office liquidations rule
Lot of ones with single-sided document feeder, but the double sided autoscanning was not there in anything cheaper.
we paid like 300€ for that printer
318e new for mine.
In 2019.
And then 150e for 5500 sheet black toner cartridge once the initial 1000 page one ran out pretty closely on the mark.
Doesn't mean they cannot lie, does it?
Do you know if they used that standardized test sheet? Is it a law?
tbh I only print the standardised test sheet at home and nothing else, so I know when my toner is gonna run out.
also, wtf 😂
Don't remember what the test spec says, so don't know if it can be played with stuff like draft mode etc, which use less ink/toner.
But it isn't just sheet, it is test protocol.
I didn't think anyone would get that for a home, but then again, maybe your parents or somebody in your family needs it for work 😉
Office printer are super reliable
My quesiton is: how do we know who does the testing? Is it a law, like madatory for companies to do these test in a standarized way?
have found correct math, now tracking down license
not modding, coding.
ISO Test Reports
In June 2004, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) announced yield testing and reporting standards for Monochrome Xerographic Engines under ISO/IEC 19752. In December 2006, yield testing and reporting standards for Color Xerographic Engines were also announced under ISO/IEC 19798 and ISO/IEC 24711. These standards ensure that toner or ink yield reporting by different manufacturers will adhere to the same rigorous testing process, making yields comparable across different products.
ISO/IEC 19752 Information technology — Method for the determination of toner cartridge yield for monochromatic electrophotographic printers and multi-function devices that contain printer components is an ISO/IEC standard method for the determination of toner cartridge yield for monochrome laser printers, introduced in June 2004 and updated in 2...
The car manufacturers also have to comply to a lot of stuff; and then we found out they used tricks to get past these tests.
Cartridge and printer source (not supplied by manufacturer; purchased on the open market from at least three different sources)
What else do you call a third party application that interacts with game files?
But the full spec is paywalled.
But that only applies for ISO certified printers right?
Volkswagen emission bullshit
Still amazed that Bosch got away seemingly unscathed
he about to block you and just continue
it doesn't interact with the game.
Yes, printer manufacturer doesn't have to use the ISO testing, but basically everyone is using it.
And usually specifies it on the sales pages somewhere, or in general.
Even HP.
it not a mod.
it's programming math not automation math, therefore #off-topic-tech
also it's software license/copyright-related, therefore #off-topic-tech
Anyways, got the heatsinks into place:
also it's people doing the same task in different programming languages, therefore #off-topic-tech
HDMI ports will be down in the final installation (wall type).
And even still boots \o/
I don't see a refutation of the 5 points, g'bye
@summer scroll ((time * (power * clock)) * supplementalwotsits) / 1000, shouldn't need arbitrary precision math on those values unless you want to account for any possible weirdness with non-int supplementalwotsits
Southpark pfp
And the Debian Bookworm (not Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm) works fine too in quick test \o/
Now put the Debian Bookworm RPI1 version onto the Pi 1B:s card and need to start setting that back up.
First need to convert the thing to use BTRFS with both metadata and data duplication on one physical partition.
Pi 1 as DHCP server in the management network, ONLY because these settings don't work right in Windows.
If the specific network interface hasn't had DHCP provided settings since last boot, they will not be used.
And even when that is true, it takes several minutes for the Windows to finally decide to use them with no DHCP reply.
big box
For little over 3e, for the case specifically. 63x94x33mm outside dimensions, including the feet.
I plan on trying to design one with someone else 3d printer
But when the ready made options are shit like this, at maybe 4mm high...
For the heatsinks for Pi4 I mean.
As comparison:
Which one is more likely to not throttle as passive if put into 40-50C air temperature situation?
Ok, likely the placement will not be anywhere near that, but I was making sure.
So used 16-20e on the heatsinks and about 10e on the excessive sized 300x300 thermal tape sheet.
But I need to clear the project sidetable before continuing...
buying enterprise and actual professional tools is the way to go, consumer stuff sucks
what are you doing with the pi?
Putting it behind the fridge with USB connected HDD to store surveillance camera footage.
So right next to the fridges compressor loop warm/hot cooling coils.
Which is why I went with Pi 4, to get AC WLAN, but still cheaper and easier to cool than the Pi 5.
Pi 4 seems to be 1x1, so 433Mbit/s max theoretical, no idea about Pi 5.
But as the need is only for constant 10Mbit/s, that doesn't matter that much.
Seems to be the same, with Pi 5 giving much more performance up close to the AP, but losing performance with range while Pi 4 keeps up to same speed, with eventually Pi 5 dropping below the Pi 4.
So Pi 4 seems to have better RF hardware, but not enough bus bandwidth, CPU performance or similar to give high transfer speeds.
hello, I am hoping to buy a monitor soon, maybe in prime sales ... for game dev I want one with as accurate colour representation as possible ... are there any monitors that you guys can recommend?
or things to look out for?
Budget?
no budget ... I don't wanna waste money but I want it to be premium
prudent but amazing quality
Desk space? I have room for a pair of 27 inch 4K. You will want at least an IPS screen. I would not go OLED until people playing your game largely have OLED. I like dell screens, the u2723qe is well regarded, and ASUS proart models have good colour gamut and accuracy out of the box. In general dell screens go on sale all the time and in addition to these two brands, Samsung is worth a look.
I don’t care, at all, about high frame rates Good colours and good blacks
what else is in the dell range these days? i'm looking for a near like-for-like swap for a dying s2719dgf but obviously that's four years old
I dont have the decoder ring for their model names. But I would gather that is an s tier 27 inch from 2019.
There is a s2721for usd 140 on their sale page. www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/deals/computer-monitor-deals
In the US, Dell G2724D
My pair is s2721qs
Oh, I’m Canadian, I have no idea if dell is showing me different models
$200, best in its class (1440p ≤180Hz edgelit IPS)
I am in the UK but I am sure we can get that over here
Not necessarily at a good price tho
plenty
I use a dining table as my PC desk, lolol
just over 2 meters long
maybe 1m deep
OLED is out simply because color accuracy is a nightmare to maintain and because game dev means lots of static content.
*94 cm
What size monitor are you looking for then?
I think 24 would suffice
Oooookay
Boy do I have the monitor for you
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/wFMMnQ/aoc-q24g2abk-238-2560-x-1440-165-hz-monitor-q24g2abk
24in 1440p is gonna look crisp
24/27
I only thing the survey does resolution not size
ah
it's crazy how much I save on shipping
almost everyuthing I buy is through amazon
1080p
Steam hardware survey has the info on resolution
But 1440p is getting more and more popular
Yeah, kinda
