Maybe short DNS outage?

night girder
#

while nothing seemed to be wrong with my ethernet network (YT, google etc). And then now it all suddenly works perfect. Wth.

night girder
#

Maybe that's why my laptop didn't have issues on WIFI or Ethernet reaching the website, but my gaming laptop had.

#

and now it's resolved for my gaming rig.

edgy hazel
#

Yeah sounds like that SnuttsGood I'm getting better at this network shit

night girder
#

I did basic trouble shooting.

#

Turned off/on router. Turned off/on switch. Checked isitdown.com hehe

#

well, anyway. Got to go to the dentist. Have to replace a tooth for 2K euro 😦 (more than my PC!)

edgy hazel
#

Ouch

twin dew
#

But forgot "ipconfig /flushdns" on the computer?

night girder
edgy hazel
#

Baldur bringing cannons to a knife fight

night girder
#

and that didn't solve it. And now it "magically works" after an hour. So maybe it auto flushed.

#

I dunno. I never flush 😉

twin dew
#

Improvements to intermittent driver timeout or application crash while playing HELLDIVERS™ 2.

#

Probably won't help in this case, but just to let you know.

pure karma
#

probably because thats literally every piece of software nowadays

edgy hazel
#

Really props to apple for making cables that:

  • break when you touch them wrong
  • stain almost immediately
And tie themselves up when you just lay them down somewhere.
It is truely an incredible feat of engineering
twin dew
#

Need to keep that sweet cash rolling in from replacements.

charred pewter
#

its that high premium you are paying for which makes them that quality

#

👍

fringe ivy
#

The Apple Tax you pay is so they can design it in such a way that you keep paying for their products. Its another service they provide!

pure karma
#

i guess they do kinda but anything white stains

sharp oasis
#

I do wonder

#

How long will AM4 stay relevant

edgy hazel
#

we are already on AM5

jagged snow
#

I wouldn't build a new system on am4 even today, but I expect that the 5800x3d will be a very long lived chip

#

People will still be rockin those 5 years from now

edgy hazel
#

😎

charred pewter
#

my isp decided to make my fiber connection symetrical (at no additional cost lol):

dire igloo
tough owl
#

am5 too expensive still

edgy hazel
dire igloo
#

it's closer to an answer than your statement

dire igloo
#

AM4 is still relevant, albeit in a low budget range

edgy hazel
#

that is not an answer to how long

tough owl
#

looks inside

sees am4

edgy hazel
#

What's that? Windows? I'm disappointed kade

sharp oasis
#

I assume the 5800x won't age as well as the x3d

#

Prolly from the lack of cache

dire igloo
#

yup n yup

sharp oasis
#

Tho it should be pretty decent. Or I'd think.

#

Games still run pretty good on 5000 series even tho it's what 3 Gens old now

#

2-3 it's getting close to hitting three

twin dew
#

One for 5000-series desktop parts.

#

That is with Zen 3, and 7000 is with Zen 4.

dire igloo
sharp oasis
#

8000 is zen4 iirc

twin dew
#

No, 8000G is Zen4 APU.

#

First of such.
And 6000 was also Zen3 APU.

sharp oasis
#

And I assume 9000 will be zen 5

twin dew
#

If it comes out this year, 8000.

#

If AMD uses the new laptop chip naming for the first number like they did with the Zen4 desktop APUs.

sharp oasis
#

So zen3 is 1 - 2 ish Gens old(depends when 9000 series comes out)

dire igloo
twin dew
#

8 is for 2024.

dire igloo
#

reviews are already out

#

for 8700g

twin dew
#

I meant the Zen 5 next gen non-APUs that should come out near end of the year.

#

Which Loki said would be 9000.

dire igloo
#

I think 8000 will be like 4000 - small stack, iGPU focus

twin dew
#

Both 4000 and 6000 were to get new numbers for laptop OEMs.

mental oriole
twin dew
#

And now officially the first number just means "release year"

#

7 for 2023, 8 for 2024, 9 for 2025.

tough owl
#

Would lockup my entire system

#

Windows it still does it just way less frequently

sharp oasis
#

8000 is already out for end user

twin dew
#

The first gen Zen 4 based APUs are.

sharp oasis
#

Yeah

twin dew
#

Which doesn't preclude that the Zen 5 non-APUs cannot be 8000 too.

#

Most of AM4 APUs were one generation behind on core for same first number.

#

2000G:s were Zen 1, 3000G:s were Zen 1+ IIRC, 4000G:s were Zen 2, 5000G and 6000G are Zen 3 IIRC.

#

7000G:s don't exist on desktop side, 8000G is Zen 4.

#

Sorry, the 6000G:s don't exist on desktop either.

edgy hazel
#

I just got my hands on an OG 3com managed switch baby

tough owl
edgy hazel

why would you want that

tough owl

New server operators be like how do I do something and let it be a massive security issue on their servers

charred pewter
#

the fuck ?

#

i just said my comment was in relation to some c o u n t r y trying to b a n V P N S

#

but some FUCKING STUPID BOT deleted it for 'language'

edgy hazel
#

when you get new old hardware and the wiki page for the manufacturer is just:

charred pewter
#

yup

edgy hazel
#

the fuck they wanna do? Just block all ports and encrypted traffic?

charred pewter
#

isps get away with pricing murder here

#

they keep raising rates, but provide no better service

#

then they tack on these extra 'fees' which are bullshit, and then they charge 'taxes' since you are 'renting' equipment

#

i mean this when i say: I have PTSD opening my monthly ISP bill

#

"what bullshit have they raised it by now"

sharp oasis
#

@edgy hazel Lineage decidely broke itself wile trying to install a OTA update. is there any way i can recover the system without deleteding my data

edgy hazel
#

prolly via recovery menu

#

can't be of much help to you here tho

#

how the fuck did you brick it already in one week

sharp oasis
sharp oasis
#

must have been an error

#

i can get into safe mode but Thats all

edgy hazel
sharp oasis
edgy hazel
#

yeah idk gl tho

sharp oasis
#

imma need it

#

all this from a OTA update lmao

edgy hazel
#

I've been updating without issues lol

sharp oasis
#

could have been a one off. or somehow during flashing i had system damage.

#

i might just reflash the packages back onto the phone

#

as thru recovery mode i can force enable ADB

#

and thats kinda a saving grace

#

nope

#

gotta reset

edgy hazel
#

Imagine not seeing this jacelul

sharp oasis
#

factory reset isnt repairing it

twin dew
#

So reflash?

sharp oasis
sterile ledge
#

I repaced my lcdscreeb last week, and its working fine again!

#

Unfortz the new screen is already cracked now/again 😅, but i dont care much, at least the LCD and touchscreen are operational now

sharp oasis
#

ehh im kinda glad my pixel backs itself up

sterile ledge
#

Bettee than havibg to use adb w scrcopy to log in w 2FA 😉😅😎

sharp oasis
#

i had a backup from today i could restore from

#

pain in my ass to reinstall everything but das how it be

sterile ledge
#

On a reflash note: if i have (another) phone that i can boot into boot menu, do i still need thecassociated google accountvfor that phone? (Android protection thing. Or is there a way around it)? (Samsung S15ish)

#

As i dont have access to the account anymore? i know the account and password, but didnt set recovery questions, and 2FA w phone numbers is linked to a disabled account\number 😏

edgy hazel
#

get in contact with google support or whatever. We're not gonna help you bypass an account lock on a device.

sand saddle
#

Lmao I'm downloading shit from sketchy ass websites and ublock origin blocks are in single digits.
At the same time regular websites are usually in the hundreds.

tough owl
#

either not a lot is getting detected or theyre not that bad 🤣

sand saddle
#

Both or the 1st option

night girder
twin dew
#

The extra temperature sensor I inserted into the GPU heatsink for case fan speed control, near the power plug, seems to be working nicely.
As the MB firmware can control each fan header with temperature from up to three temperature sensors.
So set them to CPU, MB and that extra sensor.

night girder
edgy hazel
tough owl
#

retronet?

twin dew
#

Visible coming from back of the power cable and looping to the end of the finstack and inserted between two fins.

night girder
#

I think it's done pretty clean.

#

now get that octua fan in black and you are all good 😉 (for my taste haha)

twin dew
#

Solid paneled case.

night girder
#

My eye just got drawn to that top left corner.

#

"What is that?!?" "Oh ofc, octua cooler" hehe

#

Any reason you put extra sensor inside GPU?

twin dew

If you missed

🤣
night girder
#

but I would assume a general case temperature or average somewhere.

twin dew
#

Default is usually specific CPU sensor.

night girder
#

Seems a bit weird to couple case fans to specific hardware.

twin dew
#

And like I said, I set the case fans BOTH to CPU and that extra sensor, and then MB PCB temperature sensor too as third.

#

MB VRM would have been another option.

night girder
#

My GPU blows down, case has full open bottom, so I just feel my GPU pushing down and then out.

#

My CPU is more of a straight line airflow.

#

My awesome drawing skills.

#

Blue is the CPU airflow line. Red is GPU, uses another airflow line. And I just love it.

twin dew
#

Got the GPU Zero RPM fan mode disabled via Radeon Settings.

#

Don't want the GPU fans to die from that pulsing them...

night girder
#

My previous case was just pushing out air at the back. That was it 😂 So all the hot air, collected and blown out of the back.

#

Atleast now the airflows are kinda spread.

tough owl
#

airflow in my case is close to non existent hehe

night girder
#

whatever flows your boat

tough owl
#

we love nxzt h1

night girder
#

I like their designs, good eye candy. But not so good performance/quality

#

I mean, if I can compare between the two.

tough owl
#

msrp is 399 for a 4060ti right?

twin dew
twin dew
#

Yeah, just disabled the Fan Stop with Radeon Settings.

#

For the GPU.

#

Hmm... something isn't quite right 😒

night girder
#

the 28K MB in memory?

twin dew
#

Which is neither VRAM or RAM as VRAM.

#

And not really showing in the RAM usage either.

tough owl
#

we love software inconsistencies

twin dew
#

But I have been playing Control for few days without reboots, and that game has VRAM management problems.

#

Texture Streaming problems that were never fixed by Remedy.

sand saddle
#

How are you coping with the heavy amounts of fog?

tough owl
#

thats what set me off of control was the amount of fog in the game

twin dew
#

What fog?

night girder
tough owl
#

fog smoke all that bleh in control

night girder
#

Atmosphere I think.

#

Like in the next room you see the "fog" clearly.

sand saddle
twin dew
#

Haven't really cared about that.
More annoyed about the lack of lighting in places.

night girder
#

Oof, that second screenshot 😒

#

That looks so washed out.

twin dew
#

That second one is from DLC I haven't played yet.

sand saddle
#

Yes

twin dew
#

All seem to be.

sand saddle
#

I played through the whole game, but the DLC fog pissed me off so I didn't play it

night girder
#

You think they did it for performance reasons? Hiding details with fog to have better FPS?

#

Oh, it's a game mechanic? Or only in the DLC?

sand saddle
#

I hate that it can't be controlled as any setting or file

twin dew
#

Going for Alan Wake vibe and the Darkness thingie causing the fog?

sand saddle
#

I don't remeber the base game, but it must've been better if I got through it

twin dew
#

As that is the Alan Wake related DLC.

sand saddle
#

And I didn't love it at times

night girder
#

satisfactory also uses fog to hide shit.

sand saddle
#

But you can disable it from the console

#

And they improved it with UE5 iirc

pure karma
#

dont most games use fog to hide shit and imperfections

sand saddle
#

I can understand that

night girder
sand saddle
#

But when I'm running max settings with raytracing, I'd like to see those...

tough owl
#

you have a 3090 right?

sand saddle
#

Yes

#

I don't think the performance was exceptional, but I'm not a huge raytracing supporter anyways

night girder
#

Developers can't only make games for high end consumers.

#

These days it has to be developed for PC's, iPads, Phones, ...

sand saddle
#

I just want the fog level to be adjustable, that's all

#

If there was a way to reduce it, I could actually play the DLC

night girder
#

Hope for a patch.

twin dew
#

Anyways, I'm off to bed, again few hours late...

sand saddle
#

Like forced TAA is a bitch as well

#

Especially when it's not implemented well

night girder
sand saddle
#

Yes

night girder
#

Console = no control over graphics (almost). PC = some control over graphics.

sand saddle
#

I'd buy a PC over a console purely for mod support

#

But then there are games with 0 mod support... fuck them

#

Fucking 11bit studios, frostpunk would have more replayability with mods, but no, they don't support it.
I've played through each frostpunk scenario once... that's it.

#

Or just convenience or personalization. I don't like game studios who think that there's only one way to have fun

#

Single player games without mod support...

night girder
#

I've been using AMD FSR lately. And I must say, it's really not that bad.

sand saddle
#

On your 1080p screen?

night girder
#

yes 😄

sand saddle
night girder
#

More fps 😉

#

And the graphics, they look the same so why not 🤷‍♂️

sand saddle
#

What do you do with that extra fps?

night girder
#

Flex 😄

tough owl
#

fsr on my 1080p screen looks 🤢

#

I wanna try fsr3 with framegen though

night girder
#

I use it for satisfactory, and red dead redemption.

tough owl
#

its blurry with rdr2

night girder
#

Really? was super sharp for me.

tough owl
#

I dunno if thats me using it wrong but yea I cannot get it to look good in that game

#

maybe I gotta play without my glasses

sand saddle
#

Cuz I know you can modify DLSS render res inside Satisfactory

night girder
#

Looks sharp to me.

tough owl
#

when I get out of class ill boot up the game

#

what settings are you rocking within the game?

sand saddle
#

Nice

#

Can you also control sharpening?

night girder
tough owl
#

😔

night girder
# tough owl 😔

wait. I had blurry RD2 too. I looked up a guide. Maybe I can find it back.

tough owl
#

its not that important but id like to be able to play it again at decent fps without being on low with my 7600

night girder
tough owl
#

i had it cranked all the way up

night girder
#

mhm.

#

let me check if I have back up from configuration for RDR2

#

config.dat file mhm can be it.

#

not readable 😦

#

omg 😂

#

Partly readable.

edgy hazel
#

that's french

night girder
#

I whished we could control sharpness.

sand saddle
#

Certainly doable someway

night girder
#

have to look in it again, maybe I missed it.

pure karma
#

if theres anything i have learned so far today its that dedicated servers are like really anoying

night girder
#

how so

pure karma
#

well i got the server running but it only works for me and it also has about a 80% chance to just insta crash everytime someone attemps to conect

#

kinda defeats the point when no one can join

night girder
#

that's not normal you know

pure karma
#

nothing i manage to do is normal

#

and i have kinda just accepted it at this point

night girder
#

what did the almighty google say?

pure karma
#

nothing that helped only stuff that made it worse

#

i almost wonder if its my wifi shutting it down because of the exterior connections

sharp oasis
#

why do i do this. I keep watching for my package updates lmao.

#

I WANT MY NEW PARTS lmao

pure karma
night girder
#

shouldn't make the server crash. Then the router refuses connection and server keeps working like it's nothing.

#

do other people report the issue or are they all able to play with friends without an problems*?

pure karma
#

well id asume other peoples dedicated servers work fine

night girder
#

is it for the game we shall not name in here?

pure karma
#

the crashing one yes

night girder
#

Well, I guess you spoke to Baldur.

pure karma
#

the other one isent

#

i havent because he just went to bed

charred pewter
#

a couple DS got finicky when my brother n i were setting them up so we could just join and play in a more static world ... private DS ... not open to rando public though

night girder
sharp oasis
#

ayyyy my new mobo supports ECC

pure karma
#

the dedicated server channel is about as usefull as reading a manual in another language

charred pewter
#

or a man page in general

night girder
#

they have knowledgeable people

fringe ivy
night girder
#

might be able to help you out, I am not familiar with satis dedicated servers.

sharp oasis
#

it just supports it

fringe ivy
#

It will be nice if you ever make a server, but yea, general desktop use isnt there yet. Once the cost comes down a lot it would be great

sharp oasis
#

ecc ddr4 is getting cheap

night girder
sharp oasis
#

even tho i wont use it bc i get 2.5gbit ethernet

pure karma
night girder
#

any crash dumps in FactoryGame/Saved/Logs ?

pure karma
#

the only real thing i know is whit them off it works local only whit a bunch of random errors

night girder
#

or FactoryGame/Saved/Crashes

pure karma
#

il check again

night girder
#

That takes you to subject of logs and crash dumps. But you are right, that manual/wiki is juicy 😄

sharp oasis
edgy hazel
#

😠

night girder
#

docker again?

night girder
#

Relax. Calm. Take a breath.

pure karma
#

satisfactory programing is good enough to pass lol

night girder
#

but he is also right so 😄

edgy hazel
#

there is literally a dedicated server channel

night girder
#

Then I went off road. Sorry 🙏

#

Please forgive me.

edgy hazel
# night girder docker again?

also no docker is great. I can shut down my server and the mc container boots up as soon as the server is up again

night girder
edgy hazel
#

shit's fire

#

now... how to put myself into a container

night girder
#

yeah once you figure it out, a whole world opens up 😂

#

and it's a good skill to have currently.

sharp oasis
#

damnnnnnn

#

my 5600 can be cooled passivly at idle

night girder
#

You tried docker swarm?

#

orchestration management tool

edgy hazel
#

swarm is still something I haven't looked into

#

It's not something I need currently

night girder
#

probably not something you can use in your daily life, but still fun to set it up and see it work.

#

and companies do use it.

edgy hazel
#

yeah it's probably very useful for work

night girder
#

I kinda expected more features over this time period, but still a lot of good fun

edgy hazel
#

I use it for learning mostly. Dynmap using an external web service and mysql in another container, learning how hosting and ssl works and all. It's fun

night girder
#

ah, was abou to ask. Do you let your world run 24/7 😂

night girder
edgy hazel
#

yeah it's a lil server for me and my friends

#

got even checkmk monitoring it 😄

night girder
#

we had a backend in docker containers, the more request there was, the more containers. And then down again. Reducing waste of resource and costs. Was pretty dope.

edgy hazel
#

yeah I assume combining that with nginx as load balancer it can be horribly powerful

sand saddle
sour wren
#

Where do I ask about graphics then

jagged snow
sour wren
#

Alright

#

Actually I do have a question on hardware

#

I recently got a gtx 980, I need to buy a new PSU for it tho. Before this I had AMD Ryzen 5 integrated graphics. Do you think the gtx 980 will show significant increase in graphics quality?

#

(I'm poor so can't afford anything better hehe )

rotund hamlet
#

definitely

sour wren
#

Do you think I will be able to use lumen at at least a playable frame rate

sand saddle
#

no

sour wren
#

Oof

pure karma
#

i mean you could probably get like 15-20fps if you set everything other than lumen to minimum

#

because i have used lumen on integrated graphics once it was terible but i still had like 15fps lol

#

unless the gtx 980 is worst than the 13700k's desktop igpu it should run assuming you have plenty of ram and cpu performance so it cant crash

sand saddle
#

980 is a lot better than 13700k IGPU

pure karma
#

ok then yea it should work its gonna be rough but if he dosent mind playing at a unstable like 20fps its fine

sharp oasis
#

My new parts that come in the mail soontm

pure karma
#

i dont even know what to say anymore 😂

sharp oasis
#

And they said nvidia doesn't have issues (lmao)

languid gulch
#

i did an OS swap a couple years ago on two systems, one AMD one Intel. the AMD one had 0 issues with it, the Intel system needed a complete OS reinstall because it didn't like that the old OS got its hands filthy with AMD hardware

maiden coyote
#

For cpu or gpu? with cpu's now if you swap your cpu, or upgrade it your system won't boot, isn't windows 11 with forced tpm great?

languid gulch
#

oh this was on win10

#

iirc it was just a drive swap, but the Intel platform hated it

#

left the boards in their own cases since one was a prebuilt

#

was just hilarious because it shows exactly the sentiments of the companies

twin dew
#

So Gigabyte, and that board doesn't specify it can actually do ECC on ECC-RAM.
Doesn't have the normal Gigabyte caviat about it tho.
But usually Gigabyte only has 64 data traces, and not 72.
Leaving the 8 extra traces needed for the ECC support off from the MB as it eases making the RAM clock higher in non-ECC mode.

cyan stirrup
#

recommnede specs for this game at 1080p?

twin dew
#

Factorio?
Or Dyson Sphere Program?

cyan stirrup
twin dew
#

If you mean Satisfactory, you are asking on wrong channel?
This is off-topic channel.
Factorio != Satisfactory.

twin dew
# sharp oasis ayyyy my new mobo supports ECC

But seems Gigabyte might have had the traces there all along, and has now finally implemented the firmware support?
As I have been checking B550 and X570 boards from them and none have mention of "in non-ECC mode" anymore.

sharp oasis
#

I have two pings?

tough owl
#

this is fine

sharp oasis
wary olive
languid gulch
#

remember when stuff like the 980Ti was a scorcher at like 70C 🤣

twin dew
#

Ok, the VRAM leak problems were at least party caused by changing AA settings in Radeon Settings.
From default Application Preferences & Multisampling to Enhance Application & Adaptive Multisampling.
That combo caused leak both in Control and Satisfactory.

#

Which was in a way to be expected.
Those were for times when MSAA etc. still worked.

#

Just something I started to put the settings when they were added LONG time ago.

mental oriole
night girder
#

Why do I have ghost pings in screenshots 😒

twin dew
#

Usually because someone tried to reply to your screenshot post?

night girder
#

I didn't post a screenshot for weeks.

#

Someone is going rogue.

night girder
twin dew
night girder
#

I remember that.

twin dew
night girder
#

Yeah, but I did not expect it to come from AMD official software.

twin dew
#

Neither did I.
Making bug report once I finish this gameplay session.

night girder
#

huh, my group policy settings just dissapeared today 😒

#

everything got resetted somehow, wtf?

twin dew
#

And still happens, just to a lesser amount...

#

Ok, might just be reporting bug.
Been talked about multiple times.

night girder
#

I am so confused. So I had a popup for windows update. It was ApS 1.0.11.0. While I have APS 1.2.0.0 installed. I though I blocked automatic drivers from windows updates. So I go to group policy and it's all not configured 😒

#

Now I am able to get rid of the update 1.0.11.0 and now I try to update again, it doesn't find the 1.0.11.0. Maybe it realized I have 1.2.0.0 installed. What is going on.

twin dew
#

Have to see if the performance gets more stuttery still without reboots.

night girder
#

And for this exact reason, I don't want windows pushing driver updates in a Windows Update. Cannot trust them at all.

#

So why the fuck did it want to install 1.0.11.0 today 😒

#

unless, they are counting backwards and lower numbers mean more recent 🤔

#

and why the hell did my group policy just magically "reset".

#

let's see if I can export the GPO.

twin dew
#

Need Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) to export and import.

night girder
#

I just realized 😭

#

I can export to .txt file. Not import.

twin dew
#

AGPM is available as part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) for Software Assurance.
So might not be something you can easily download.

night girder
#

Fucking hate Microsoft.

#

Why ... why do they have to make it so complicated.

twin dew
#

Yup, bought thingie.

night girder
#

Just give us import and export for GPO. It's like a basic feature.

twin dew
#

Money:

Purchase MDOP Visit the enterprise Purchase Windows Enterprise Licensing website to find out how to purchase MDOP for your business.

night girder
#

Like a horn on a car, can't imagine this missing.

#

And the thing is GPO is already paid for. It's windows professional.

#

So you pay extra, for software, that still misses features, and then you have to pay extra again?

#

Let me look at that AGPM

twin dew
night girder
#

Evaluate MDOP MDOP is also available for test and evaluation to MSDN and TechNet subscribers in accordance with MSDN and TechNet agreements.

#

It is what it is. CBA with it. I wrote down all the GPO changes I made manually. So easy to set it all back like I just did.

#

We talked about it, but logging setup of a PC in a document can be really handy. Like in this case 😄

twin dew
#

Yeah, need to install this Optional Feature:

#

To be able to use PowerShell to export and import GPO.

#

Hoping it doesn't actually need set up Domain...

#

But that is partly the point, the admins would usually set the GPO stuff to the Domain Controller, and it would automatically upload the changes to any connected machine.

night girder
#

I don't have much setup. Just some configuration for update control.

twin dew
#

You don't have Domain.

night girder
#

No.

twin dew
#

Ah, misunderstood the previous line.

#

Didn't work without a Domain either...

#

Backup-GPO : Current security context is not associated with an Active Directory domain or forest.

night girder
#

I don't understand it.

#

Why does MS do this? Besides greed?

twin dew
#

Because GPO isn't supposed to be used by consumer customers?

night girder
#

They let me export a .txt. So you have that feature. Now just let me import .txt and all is good. Can't cause harm.

twin dew
#

In their mind.

night girder
#

Like I said.

#

They let me export it. So they let non consumer customers export. If they think that has benefit for professionals.

twin dew
#

Not really.
That .txt isn't real export.

night girder
#

imagine what import can do.

#

It's a feature my friend.

twin dew
#

The "real" export and import use binary format with .cab surrounding.

night girder
#

Look, some developer went out of their way to build this into GPO.

#

This isn't magic. This is a deliberate move.

twin dew
#

Yes, they had that.
Which just outputs documentation type thingie.

night girder
#

If you right click a tree element, you can also export.

#

So clearly, a feature. Without an import feature?

#

You can take money out of your bank account. But you can't add it back? 😒

twin dew
#

If you test that, it doesn't export what we thought it does.

night girder
#

Doesn't matter too much, just don't understand the logic.

night girder
twin dew
#

It only exports whatever was exactly selected...

night girder
#

So I exported everything that was "enabled"

#

and now I look at the file and it exported everything that was "enabled" BUT!

#

it reversed the values 😂

#

Ooh wait. Nvm!

twin dew
#

That is Comment.

night girder
#

Exactly. It's Enabled / No

twin dew
#

No, Enabled is the value, No is comment.

night girder
#

two types of values. I read it as "Enabled: No".

twin dew
#

That there was no comment.

night girder
#

Yeah, just realised. Ok ok.

#

Well, then it works like I expected it to work.

twin dew
#

Not really, it doesn't export the subsettings.
Or where in the tree the export is from.

#

And you can only get one exact location at a time.

night girder
#

All I need is this: "\System\Device Installation"

#

And that's what it's logging. So I can find it back.

twin dew
#

I got lot more, this is just some.
And some of those have subsettings

night girder
#

Yeah, your situation is different for sure

twin dew
#

But basically MS coders for that haven't expected anyone to use Group Policy on single computer that isn't part of Active Directory.

#

And for long time it wasn't needed, as you could set anything via normal ways too.
But not anymore...

night girder
#

They brought this upon themselves.

#

Take away control from users, some* users will find "obscure" ways to do it.

twin dew
#

‪C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy
contains the stuff

#

The .pol files seem to be binary.
You can view them somewhat with text editor, but not edit or save as you will fuck up the binary bits.

night girder
#

yes, looking at it too.

#

In theory one could try to copy + paste it somewhere. Delete the file to reset GPO. Then copy paste the file back to see if settings are ok again.

#

But there is a chance that wont work.

twin dew
#

AFAIK the files are moveable between computers as a set.

night girder
#

Yeah, don't feel like messing with it atm. 😄

twin dew
#

But you can take backup (with file permissions), and if stuff breaks, try to restore.

twin dew

Usually depends on game and settings?

vast tundra
#

Ok

#

What about 1080 p

twin dew
#

There isn't any single answer.
You check the reviews for the CPU.
You check the reviews for the GPU.
And the limiter will be whatever of those was lower at the specific game, with the specific settings.

vast tundra
#

Ok got it

dire igloo
#

Bottlenecks are not as simple as "X bottlenecks Y", and the term bottleneck is often misused and oversimplified.
Think of your computer like a factory. The CPU gets a bunch of parts on a truck from SSD and RAM, and builds them into a frame of the game. That then gets handed off to the GPU, which packages it up nicely and sends the new frame to the monitor on a truck. A higher resolution monitor acts like a bigger truck, and a higher refresh rate means the shipments leave faster. Both of these mean more work for the assembly line to keep up.
If you have a CPU bottleneck, the GPU is waiting for the CPU to build each frame. If you have a GPU bottleneck, the CPU is waiting for the GPU to finish packing the current frame and take the next one.
Because all parts of the line rarely work at exactly the same speed, you almost always have a bottleneck in your PC at a given time, whether it is CPU, GPU, memory, or storage.
Where the bottleneck is while gaming depends on the game situation in question, the resolution of your monitor, and the graphics settings you've selected. This means that different part selection and component balances make sense depending on what exactly you're doing.
For more information, watch this video: https://youtu.be/XwlEyOYcr1I

Everyone asks if their CPU bottlenecks their GPU, but no one stops to ask WHY and HOW their CPU bottlenecks their GPU, or vice versa. In this video, we take a look at how bottlenecks work and why it's not quite as simple as "X is a bottleneck for Y."

The word bottleneck is beginning to lose meaning to me as I type this.

The computer froze yesterday and again today. No body.

#

Bsod

#

It's like the cpu stopped execution and halted. Screen froze, looping audio if it was playing audio.

languid gulch
#

oh i love when that happens, it reminds me of the 90s

maiden coyote
#

no.

vast tundra
#

Oh that makes ur trouble shooting hard

winged valley
#

Hey do any of you want to get in a vc and give me feedback on a computer diagnostics presentation I'm working on?

#

Its for class but I will also be using it in a club activity I plan to make later

#

It should be less than 7 minutes long so far

vast tundra
#

I can’t run srry

maiden coyote
#

I could replace the cpu, but for new color... or used color with "new" being $10 more at that price it's really not worth it if it is the cpu. it's a $500 laptop, and with the amount of work required to replace a bga IC + my labor it's not worth it to a customer at that price.

#

and when a whole new motherboard is $60... yay ewaste.

vast tundra
#

Ya it’s just not as easy like if u wanna check the ram u can just take out the sticks in a laptop u got to unscrew stuff

#

I see ur side tho

maiden coyote
#

not as easy no, this dell laptop is pretty nice.. good display. taking it apart there's screws on the bottom and the bottom cover pops off. there's clips, but no hidden screws under the feet like on other laptops

vast tundra
#

Oh I thought it was one of the ones with hidden screws and other shit

vast tundra
#

Yo can someone help my trouble shoot my buddy pc

#

Buddies

#

He can’t download anything from Microsoft store but he can from anywhere else

sharp oasis
#

@maiden coyote seems off.

#

Driver install fail or something?

languid gulch
#

super dumb question time. is there a way to "transfer" a game that's available on both steam & epic to both clients without having to buy it on each one?

jagged snow
#

Pirate it and add it as a local game on whichever client you don't already own it on

#

Otherwise no

languid gulch
#

what about if it's already bought on one client

jagged snow
#

I was assuming you'd already bought it

#

If it doesn't have drm, you can skip the pirating step

#

e.x. satis

#

If you own it on epic, you can add the local files to steam so it can be launched from there

languid gulch
#

ok nice

#

& it'll just show up in the games list?

jagged snow
#

Yup

languid gulch
#

yay

With all the satellite and elevation mapping tools we have do you think someone has figured out the surface area of the earth with its mountains and valleys factored in?

night girder
#

The surface area of the earth is slowly changing throughout time, ice smelting, rising sea, there is a country who is making an island as we speak.

edgy hazel
#

I also assume it's to hard with tide and such

night girder
#

Or do you mean the surface area without water being a factor. Which changes not much. Since plates inside the earth are constantly moving too.

tough owl
#

Without water

#

But like a rough estimate

night girder
#

That is pangea, one continent ages ago.

edgy hazel
#

imagine the rail network you could put on there

night girder
#

But because the earth is moving beneath us, it split. Also mountains can be formed still.

#

So, afaik, in theory. We can gain and lose surface.

tough owl
#

I know that much but its possible to get a rough estimate no?

#

this is the question i think to myself when I stay up past midnight

night girder
#

It is possible to get a snapshot of surface for this day and age.

#

Not sure how precise

#

Do we have a scan of our ocean for example?

tough owl
#

ocean has skin?

twin dew
night girder
#

Mariana trench hasn’t been fully discovered

night girder
#

Like we do it already.

#

Just google earth surface and you get estimates etc.

#

But I think that’s without what’s under the sea.

#

And like I said, the surface is moving slowly. It’s changing.

twin dew
#

I meant to account for the tides and tide heights etc.

#

We can monitor to almost daily(?) level, but not constantly.

night girder
#

Kade asked for without an ocean.

tribal kraken
#

Youd still have to decide how accurate approximation the measure would be. Same as in coastline paradox

night girder
#

That is a picture of what some believe our earth looks like with no water.

But why does this keep you awake Kade? Worried we ran out of land to build on? 😉
