night girder
#

and over and over = going into the bios and erasing everything.

#

disconnected from internet, drivers were on USB stick, installed drivers, connected to internet. And that's when I let AMD do it's job.

edgy hazel
#

Do you get a driver timeout from AMD?

night girder
#

no. Black screen. PC crash.

edgy hazel
#

What gpu and psu?

charred pewter
#

crap, i cant get the MSI MEG, cause its an E-ATX ... i aint got the room for that !

night girder
charred pewter
#

seasonic ! THERES YOUR PROBLEM .... yes i know, model not brand

edgy hazel
#

Might be a lil tight

#

What Adrenaline version?

night girder
#

23.11.1

#

Yeah I know, there is update few days ago.

#

but the update didn't do anything for drivers. A few vulkan thingies.

#

23.12.1 - December 5th, 2023
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 Release Notes | AMD
VK_KHR_maintenance5
VK_EXT_frame_boundary
VK_EXT_nested_command_buffer

#

but fuck it, let me update anyway.

rotund hamlet
#

maintenance5 seems vaguely important

edgy hazel
#

What games are crashing

night girder
#

discord + alt + tabing + GW2 = full PC crash. Happened 3 times today. Ok, I am trying to figure it out so I am tabbing a lot.

#

HL crashed 3-4 times a day out of the blue. I might have solved that one. But I had 100% game completion so I didn't play for long.

#

Red Dead Redemption 2 was only game that was super stable so far.

edgy hazel
#

These are old games. Have you tried running them in compatibility ?

night girder
#

Hogwarts Legacy is not old.

#

And Red Dead Redemption is old, but stable ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

edgy hazel
#

Oh I thought half life

night girder
#

Ah, yeah that was confusing of me.

charred pewter
#

i dont consider rdr2 old, because ive yet to play it still ๐Ÿ˜„ so its pretty damned NEW to me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

night girder
#

and I also checked RAM for errors.

night girder
#

There is two things in my mind atm. Install another game to see what happens.

#

Or I found a "stress test" button today in Adrenalin. Maybe stress test my system to be sure it's not my hardware.

sand saddle
#

Pretty sure it only checks gpu

#

OCCT is a fairly decent all around tool

#

Can test cpu, gpu, mem

edgy hazel
#

In my experience AMD usually gives me a message/popup when it crashes/reboots
Might be worth checking for storage errors which was my issue when I had a similar thing

night girder
sand saddle
#

Bios is updated?

random haven
#

Hello, I have a problem with my server, can you guys help me?

sand saddle
#

No

rotund hamlet
random haven

winged valley
#

@night girder sounds like gpu driver is failing have you tried ddu

#

event viewer will also likely tell you whats happening

charred pewter
pure karma
#

i found the mystery of the 62W cpu whit a 15WTDP

#

hwinfo somehow read the power of the charger instead of the cpu

night girder
pure karma
#

i checked and the charger i was ussing when it happened was a 65W charegr and everything maxed from 61-63W of ussage

#

so it would make sense

night girder
#

I am on that version.

#

The other two are Beta. And then you got 2.01 and 2.02 who are fairly new and not sure if I should let them mature a bit more ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Also, "optimize USB port compatibility" doesn't sounds like somethign that will help.

twin dew
#

They just jumped a lot in version number because they added support for the new APUs.

#

But the AGESAs got significant changes with 7c and later.

#

Good things.

#

BIOS and GPU driver changelogs are always very spotty and there are lot more changes than listed.

winged valley
#

Yeah the AGESA update is worth having

night girder
winged valley
#

Besides if your new bios DOES brick itself that's fixable with a spi programmer

twin dew
#

Which is pretty much standard on AM5 boards.

winged valley
twin dew
#

And on higher end of anything before.

night girder
#

Look it's because of advice like that. "Don't update your BIOS unless you need to". But I am looking up what AGESA is.

winged valley
#

Meanwhile HP and Dell mobos auto update bios through windows update

winged valley
night girder
twin dew
#

AGESA is the AMD provided firmware bit for the CPU and chipset.

night girder
#

And I didn't mess with any files, not the registry, not mucking about with drivers. In theory, this is the cleanest of the cleanest installs possible ๐Ÿคฃ

winged valley
#

When it crashes

night girder
winged valley
#

Look for ERROR, CRITICAL, and@maybe WARNING too

#

There has to be more

twin dew
#

1.0.0.7b for example improved RAM training a lot.
1.0.8.0 and newer improve how fast Infinity Fabric can run before it gets unstable.

night girder
#

And a few other errors because PC was melting down.

#

Nothing more. It always changes.

#

There isn't a pattern, or non that I have found.

#

The only consistent error, is that one. The most generic useless one.

twin dew
#

And that entry is the first one after you start after.
Not related to the problem directly.

winged valley
#

Do yoy have auto cpu oc turned on in bios

night girder
#

Error: The previous system shutdown at 14:59:56 on โ€Ž08/โ€Ž12/โ€Ž2023 was unexpected.

twin dew
#

It just says that last system shutdown was unclean.

winged valley
#

Try turning that off if you do

night girder
#

Error: The server {8CFC164F-4BE5-4FDD-94E9-E2AF73ED4A19} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

twin dew
#

Doesn't tell WHY it was unclean.

night girder
#

but that can all because the system was already crashing.

winged valley
#

Ive seen multiple pcs where bios auto oc messes with system

night girder
#

because I have to figure this out, with no usefull information ๐Ÿคฃ

winged valley
#

And the pc is what just turning off? Not bluescreening?

#

Could be a power issue especially if theres no consistency

twin dew
#

Losing picture and possibly freezing AFAIK.

night girder
twin dew
#

Didn't sound continue to play?

night girder
#

The screen stays black.

#

then I see the boot up logo ๐Ÿคฃ

winged valley
night girder
twin dew
#

But that can just be compatibility problem between Guild Wars 2 and the AMD GPU drivers.
When it is so specific and only one game.

night girder
winged valley
#

Hmm it could be load spikes and a defective psu but knowing seasonic thats not likely

night girder
#

I disable hardware acceleration for discord.

edgy hazel
#

You might actually have to do some more digging in event viewer hehe

winged valley
#

If you have another drive lying around try putting a clean windows install on that with only drivers and a game or two and see if you can recreate the problem

night girder
#

But look ...

#

Not much to work with.

winged valley
#

Okay send us your event logfiles no balls (this is a joke)

edgy hazel
#

Go to the start page of event viewer and go through all errors and crits

winged valley
#

It might also be hidden in a warn

night girder
#

Error: The previous system shutdown at 14:59:56 on โ€Ž08/โ€Ž12/โ€Ž2023 was unexpected.

edgy hazel
#

Well yeah but that's tedious

night girder
#

That everything happening around that timestamp.

edgy hazel
#

Not the issue itself

night girder
#

Nothing else.

twin dew
# night girder Doing that.

Also, go to BIOS, then AMD CBS.
CPU Common Options

Set:
Platform First Error Handling to Disabled
MCA error thresh enable to False

night girder
twin dew
#

Will make sure the firmware doesn't swallow specific hardware errors it is capable of detecting and sending.

#

Moment, one more...

#

for PCIe errors... need to check it.

#

CBS, NBIO Common Options, Advanced Error Reporting (AER) to Supported.

night girder
#

Thanks all. A whole bunch of stuff I can try out.

twin dew
#

Defaults are Auto for all, which can depending on MB etc. be enabled or disabled.
And with PFEH set to enabled, the firmware will just swallow corrected errors and not pass them on to OS, and just reboot the computer on uncorrected error.

night girder
#

Will first provoke the error again. Want to see if discord hardware stuff did anything.

#

If it crashes again, then a BIOS update. If it crashes again, then I disable logging in bios and go from there.

twin dew
#

Those are to ENABLE the Event Viewer to get hardware error reports.

night girder
#

Yes I know ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

disable logging in bios, so the error don't get consumed.

#

and properly elevated (thrown the error up, or however you want to call it)

twin dew
#

More like enable logging.
That was the point.

#

That with defaults the firmware might swallow the errors, without any logging anywhere about them happening.

night girder
#

Why is firmware doing that? The logic behind it?

#

Don't let the user see all these errors? ๐Ÿคฃ

#

It will only confuise our consumers.

twin dew
#

Basically.
Lot of people who OCd IF bus and then complained they were getting tons of WHEA log markings...

#

And blaming AMD and MB makers.

#

And on server platforms, the firmware often is set up to actually log the stuff and do intelligent stuff for the specific platform.

night girder
#

Interesting

twin dew
#

Unfortunately AM5 AGESA doesn't support IF ECC error reporting at all at this time.
Even with those settings changed.
But CPU cache errors, PCIe errors etc. work.

night girder
# twin dew And blaming AMD and MB makers.

I would think that people who OC, know that they have little arguments to complain against manufacturer? Like you are seeking the limits of hardware, shit goes wrong.

#

but on the other hand, brands do sell hardware orientated for OC crowd so ... mhm. I guess it's a double edged sword.

twin dew
#

They weren't putting the things together.
That the logged errors were because of the OC.
Because the system wasn't unstable, as the ECC was correcting the errors and logging each instance of that happening.

night girder
#

Wait what?

#

The system isn't unstable. Yet ECC kicks in ๐Ÿคจ

twin dew
#

Unstable enough to cause errors in programs or crashes etc.

night girder
#

Where did the errors come from?

twin dew
#

So the bus was unstable, but not unstable enough to cause visible problems outside of the logged corrected errors.

night girder
#

Wtf.

#

I am still not happy with this story. I understand it. But why hide errors in firmware on hardware level. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

twin dew
#

No idea, on some MBs on Auto the errors are sent, on some they aren't.

night girder
#

Bluntly put: because of the stupidity of OC crowd, we all get screwed because shit is being hidden for us all.

twin dew
#

I don't know why some MB manufacturers set the default to swallow.

#

If it is just oversight, or intentional because of the idiots.

night girder
#

Man, I think I would had a nervous breakdown if I heard this plan during a meeting.

#

I always had a hunch something was off with the hardware events in event viewer.

#

I though I had to enable event logging for hardware in Windows somewhere.

#

Never though it could be on BIOS level.

twin dew
#

Those only affect things that end up under "WHEA-Logger"

edgy hazel
#

Hello this is microsoft support, look at all these errors in eventviewer, you have a virus

winged valley
#

Nah

edgy hazel
#

I can also imagine that logging at this level has a performance impact

night girder
#

Baldur, stupid question of me.

twin dew
#

In normal case there aren't any errors to log.

#

And the CPU just sets some registers, and it is on OS to actually read those and log it.

night girder
#

I am still looking at the event viewer. And I noticed at the same time as the shut down critical error. It's follewed by this too: "Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume3) is healthy. No action is needed."

twin dew
#

If the OS doesn't check, no performance penalty.

night girder
#

Can it be that the check for disk health, can cause it? ๐Ÿ˜’

#

that it's checking my disk for health, I alt+tab at the time to GW2 = crash?

#

I look at 3 critical errors, all happened after the message "Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume3) is healthy. No action is needed."

twin dew
night girder
#

Ooh ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

twin dew
#

Anything AFTER the "unclean shutdown" message is on next boot.

night girder
#

Yeah crash, reboot, check health.

twin dew
#

And not related.

night girder
#

it's before.

twin dew
#

Ok, but look the timestamps.

night girder
#

It's in descending order.

twin dew
#

There will be hole where the actual crash happened.
And anything after is on the next boot.

night girder
#

fuck.

#

No way of knowing if 16:33:44 is before or after 16:33:44. ๐Ÿ˜ก

twin dew
#

The crash time was earlier.
There will be hole in entries that is 10+ seconds.

#

Logging stops when the crash happens and the computer reboots.
And only resumes once Windows has loaded enough.

#

And only entries before that hole can be related to the crash itself.

night girder
#

there is no gap.

edgy hazel
#

I assume you already ran the good ol DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow

twin dew
#

You aren't looking in early enough.

night girder
#

I mean there is a gap of a few hours ๐Ÿ˜›

edgy hazel
#

my system is healthy af

night girder
#

AMD experience hehe

twin dew
#

So the crash happened little before that first "late" entry.
And nothing was logged in the areas you have filtered to.

#

Or the logs weren't flushed to disk and were lost.

night girder
#

Why do you have so little logging herg ๐Ÿค”

#

herg audit success: 1.092. Me: 4.783 ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

So anything 16:32:43 or later is after the crash.
And doesn't help seeing why it crashed.

#

Probably anything 16:32:30 or later.

night girder
#

I get you Baldur mhh

edgy hazel
night girder
#

But it's security audits ๐Ÿ˜’

#

Stuff like: Credential Manager credentials were read.

edgy hazel
#

welcome to troubleshooting with herg:

night girder

remove-AppxPackage is dirty as hell

edgy hazel

night girder
#

Why is it so hard to find information about hardware from the voyager ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

Because it is too old?
So not that much data released in first place, and what was is in physical format somewhere.

#

What are you trying to find about?

night girder
#

I wanted to ask you a question. Why don't have motherboards the hardware to retain information (like simple logs/events) even when it crashes?

#

Because I know it's possible for the voyager. It uses Plated-wire memory.

twin dew
#

Because it isn't really needed?
And because the MB wouldn't know what happened anyways if it wasn't the one to trigger the reboot.

night girder
twin dew
#

BMC chips do keep that kind of logs for example, it they have the data.

night girder
#

I don't want to say victory too early.

#

But game hasn't crashed yet ๐Ÿ˜’

twin dew
#

But point is that if it is Windows side thing causing the reboot, MB would have no idea what to log.

#

Except that reboot was asked for.

night girder
twin dew
#

Yes, but that is on the OS.
And usually that happens.

#

And the normal thing to happen with uncorrected HW errors would have been for firmware to do nothing, OS get the HW error, log it and for Windows you would get BSOD with specific code.

pure karma
#

im obviously not gonna upgrade my new pc soon but im honestly thinking about what would be worth upgrading say in like 2 years

#

i was considering just going up to the 14900K max out the board and need the core speed anyway

night girder
pure karma
#

and then probably a bigger psu

edgy hazel
#

You mean you're thinking about what 3/4 year old hardware you want to buy in 2 years?

#

Plan when you want to buy. Not for the future

night girder
#

Maybe in two years, your mobo is obsolete.

pure karma
#

well yea i get that but its not like im gonna upgarde motherboards every like 2 years just to keep up

#

id rather keep this one sell the 13700K to a freind and just get the 14900K and last it until it just isent enough anymore

night girder
#

AM4 -> AM5 is a good upgrade they told me. Since that's a generation.

twin dew
#

Likelyhood of you being able to buy 14900K, new OR old in 2 years is pretty miniscule.

night girder
#

Not sure how it is for Intel.

night girder
#

And install it in two years? ๐Ÿค”

#

Futureproofing ๐Ÿคฃ

pure karma
#

well i wouldent spend 800$ on it now

#

maby like 550-600 but not 800$

#

its mostly just the PSU that im questioning as a more of a probably gonna turn into a now problem instead of a future problem

night girder
#

620 ๐Ÿ˜„

#

not sure where you are from.

pure karma
#

because im defedently over 700W of power consumtion on a 850W PSU

pure karma
night girder
#

oof, canada. Yeah forget ordering from my country.

#

taxes will probably be insane.

pure karma
#

and even then im prettysure the conversion on that ends up over 800 anyway

night girder
#

Your canadian dollar is expensive. ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

But the euro one includes pretty high VAT.

pure karma
#

im still questioning how everything ends up more expensive in europe i guess transport is harder

pure karma
#

i can get a 14900K for 799.99$CAD or for 710$CAD open box

#

so if i where to get it in europe the cpu alone would be 100$ more not counting shipping or anything

night girder
#

Well, it's the value of the euro that matters.

#

wages are also paid in euro's. Inflation. Deflation. etc.

#

We have a index in Belgium, if the average of a group of products reached a certain threshold, our wages go up automatically etc.

#

So it can be indeed that you pay more over here, but maybe people earn more here etc.

pure karma
#

whats the minimum wage in most of europe anyway

#

im kind of curious

#

here in canada prettysure it just got bumped from 14.25 to 15$

night girder
#

Complicated ๐Ÿ˜„

We always speak in months.

area like metalworkers, paper industry etc.

night girder
#

in december 2023 this is the minimum wage in Belgium atm: โ‚ฌ 1.994,18 (for one month) and that's gross salary.

twin dew
#

And the limits apply to also people who aren't part of the unions, based on those collective aggreements.

night girder
#

We have 36-38-40 hours a week jobs.

charred pewter
#

if i upgraded a mb/cpu/ram from like a z690 to z790 chipset 12 to 14 series cpu ..... would i be able to just transfer my OS M2 and NOT have to reinstall win11 from scratch?

pure karma
#

probably idk

night girder
twin dew
#

Should work fine.
And you probably wouldn't even need to update the MB?

twin dew
charred pewter
#

14 series dont work well in z690 mb

night girder
#

wait, who told me to clean install OS

#

wasn't that you Baldur?

charred pewter
#

if im switching from intel to amd, i would clean install

twin dew
#

Depends on how large the jump is.
That one is tiny.

night girder
#

If you say so ...

charred pewter
#

naw Letterdief, we just want to run you through hoops ๐Ÿ˜„

#

hows the crash coming along?

twin dew
#

I could move my OS from my 4nd gen core to the AM5.
It would run fine.
But as it is ages old install and the jump is so big, not going to do it.

night girder
#

I will not. I can not believe. That hardware acceleration of Discord was the issue.

charred pewter
#

so, its working now?

twin dew
night girder
#

I am alt + tabbing like crazy for an hour or two ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

Which isn't that suprising.

night girder
charred pewter
#

well ..... given Discord was the cause of my mac panicing and rebooting during a backup .....

#

i have to quit discord if i run a full backup

pure karma

also while your here baldur do you have any like 1000W or higher PSU recomendations

night girder

I also put the game in full screen (instead of windows) and it still wont crash. ๐Ÿ˜

pure karma
edgy hazel
#

get yourself a PSU with a USB-C slot

pure karma
#

bruh i use none i have 4 i dont need more

edgy hazel
#

it connects direcly to a usb-2 header on your mobo

twin dew
edgy hazel
#

for the data

pure karma
#

if i need a USB heaven i can just use the alienware because it has 13 USB a ports and 2 usb c im considering turning it into a storage pc or something

edgy hazel
#

it's not for charging your phone

pure karma
#

well yea usb slots cant really do that either anyway

twin dew
#

You seem to really have missed the whole conversation again...

#

And fixated on some weird idea.

pure karma
#

i understood the usb-c psu thing

night girder
#

Why the fuck use USB-C port, only for transmitting data between PSU and Mobo. Isn't that overkill.

charred pewter
#

there is apparently no RM1000i ...

pure karma
#

just i was starting to mention how charging anything on a pc usb port is just plain ineffective and half the time takes like 20 years

edgy hazel
night girder
twin dew
night girder
#

How do you think our GPU tells the Mobo it's temperature?

charred pewter
#

that are compatible with most motherboards?

pure karma
#

yea i understood i have the same thing for my rgb hub wouldent reach the motherboard anyway so no point in me getting something like that

night girder
#

Do you have your GPU connect to your mobo with USB C? hehe

twin dew
#

You would rather have Micro-USB-B?
Or full size USB-B?

charred pewter
#

because the GPU is slotted into a data interface already ... where is the PSU slotted?

twin dew
#

Or some random custom header?

edgy hazel
night girder
charred pewter
#

the only cables running from PSU to MB, are "power cables"

night girder
#

I said: isn't it overkill to use USB C

twin dew
charred pewter
#

one of my old PSU had a little two-pin fan header so the motherboard could read the speed of its fan ... was kinda silly, but the only way

edgy hazel
twin dew
#

Just passive port in with just USB2.0.

charred pewter
#

"Universal" cables ... wow !

night girder
#

10Gbps... you going to tell me... that the PSU and Mobo are sending that much data?

#

They sending a movie or what? ๐Ÿ˜’

edgy hazel
#

bro...

charred pewter
#

it doesnt use the max amount, lots of things plugged into usb-c dont use the max

edgy hazel
#

do you at least get our point of not having to produce outdated ports?

twin dew
#

USB-C has power pins, USB2.0 pins, and then lot of high-bandwidth data pins...

charred pewter
#

it could even be sending usb1.0beta singales over usb-c ๐Ÿ˜„

twin dew
#

And only the 2.0 data pins are connected in that.

edgy hazel
#

good then this convo is useless

night girder
twin dew
#

So no different from micro-B etc.

night girder
#

I am not a fan of having a fucking USB C for transmiting temperatures between my PSU and mobo.

charred pewter
#

hay, at least its not needing some obscure header pin-out with a ribbon cable .....

night girder
#

Like having a car highway, for bicycles.

twin dew
edgy hazel
#

you want the data cable fixed to the MODULAR PSU?

twin dew
#

That PSU is using the physical port in VERY SIMPLE configuration.

night girder
#

Why not just a 4-pin or something?

edgy hazel
#

those don't transmit data

charred pewter
#

ok, so its EITHER the HX1000i or RM1000x ... there is no RM1000i ... i was confused when you said "why not the 'i'"

twin dew
#

Just the A6, A7, B7 and B6 pins are connected, for simple USB2.0 480Mbps link.
Even the GND pins might not be connected.
And the +V aren't.

#

No handshake etc. needed in that config.
Just bare USB2.0 port like the original USB-B.

edgy hazel
twin dew
#

Using port that will be in production for LONG time, and is cheap to get.

charred pewter
#

its about $40 more really =p ... not like its $400 more lol

night girder
#

I do understand it. But wtf.

twin dew
#

USB-C 2.0 only ports are very cheap and plentiful.

edgy hazel
twin dew
#

Doing something else would cost more.

#

And doing something else wouldn't be really better or worse than using the 2.0 only USB-C

night girder
charred pewter
#

oh wait, there IS a "rm1000i" ... but its like 'sold out' everywhere, even on corsairs own page ... hmm, must be discontinued

night girder
#

You know what Frigid.

#

You're idea wasn't so bad ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

still running ?

edgy hazel
#

My PSU before was a rm850

night girder
#

PSU transmitting over bluetooth to motherboard. What can go wrong hehe

charred pewter
edgy hazel
twin dew
#

For the ones only set up for USB 2.0.

#

No, sorry, those were charge only ones.

night girder
edgy hazel
#

a cooler master PSU

twin dew
#

So little under 30 US cents each for the USB2.0 + power.

night girder
edgy hazel
#

ah yes. The primetime of coolermaster

twin dew
#

Micro-B connectors start from 22 cents each at this time.
And will start going up with time.

charred pewter
#

well the HX1000i is ATX 3.0 ... while the RM1000x is 2.0

#

so that may seal the deal more than just monitoring

night girder
#

It's hardware, they all have their specific connectors and stuff.

twin dew
charred pewter
#

indeed

edgy hazel
#

@night girder ima be honest. If I'd spent this amount of money and it comes with fucking micro usb, I'd return it

charred pewter
#

and its pretty much a given people will have the ports for it if they are getting that PSU anyways

#

(and its not like you have to plug the usb in to make it work, its optional)

twin dew
#

Uses the standard 9/10 pin MB USB2.0 header on the other end.

night girder
#

Sorry, just first time I see usb C on PSU ๐Ÿคฃ Just looks stupid to me. I am simple.

charred pewter
#

i thought the fan header pigtail out of my old Antec PSU was stupid ๐Ÿ˜„

#

wasnt modular, so it was always there, had to tie it up in a ball

night girder
#

I made fun of maxeek weird knob on his keyboard too ๐Ÿคฃ

edgy hazel
#

keyboard knobs are great

#

I want one

charred pewter
#

huhuh knobs

edgy hazel
#

lemme twist the knob

charred pewter
#

i need a new keyboard for my mac that has the touchID ...

night girder
edgy hazel
#

what gets me really riled up is a knob with physical resistance

charred pewter
#

ive typed in my system password so many times on my current keyboard... people could prolly figure out the password easy !

night girder
edgy hazel
#

well not from corsair

night girder
#

it's like a satelite on top of your keyboard

or a mini subwoofer.

charred pewter

hay if it does analog steering in racers... sure!

night girder

Or an ashtray.

edgy hazel

๐Ÿ˜ฎ BUT STEAMROLLER KNOB

charred pewter

that for cleaning your shoes ?

night girder

Those are dope for sure. And look clean.

charred pewter

oh! cat hair pickup rollers !

edgy hazel

my DAC has a knob area

twin dew

The left side is for something stupid with RGB probably.

night girder
charred pewter

ive got a HUGE knob on my speaker system

edgy hazel
#

oh my speaker system....

night girder
#

my DAC has a huge knob. With two small knobs.

edgy hazel

Yamaha ๐Ÿ‘

edgy hazel
#

I got this when I was 15. Still works perfectly. I love audio stuff lasting forever

#

It's connected to my DAC ๐Ÿ˜„

charred pewter
#

audio stuff is military grade hardware, shits tough

charred pewter
#

im still using my Z5500 system in my living room

edgy hazel
#

Military grade is the cheapest option

charred pewter
#

its funny when they use "Military Grade Hardware" in marketting (like MSI) ....

twin dew
edgy hazel
#

Military grade speakers: it makes sound

charred pewter
#

failing military hardware, means death for people .... sooooo

twin dew
#

For electronics components, there really are consumer grade, industrial grade, vehicle grade, military grade and space grade components.

edgy hazel
charred pewter
night girder
twin dew
edgy hazel
#

I don't beat the shit out of my PC

charred pewter
#

indeed

edgy hazel
#

usually

charred pewter
#

i even handle parts with white gloves ...

twin dew
#

Which is why most of the marketing about it for consumer stuff is just false advertising.

edgy hazel
#

when I still used HDDs it was a different story

twin dew
#

Including the drop test stuff for example.
Because the spec they quote doesn't specify a drop test, it specifies how to specify drop tests for specific contract.

edgy hazel
#

one used to rattle (it still works!!) and it was quickly fixed with a ๐Ÿค›

twin dew
#

So that the contract specs make sense and make sure the tests that get run actually matter and fill the needs to get the drop proof thing wanted.

twin dew
#

There are examples in the spec of possible tests.

#

And mostly when someone sells gear that "fills this spec" they mean they did one of the examples as part of their own testing.

edgy hazel
#

I have a relative who does these kinds of test. Or at least is in a high position in a company that does these

twin dew
#

Same with "Aircraft grade aluminium" etc.
Aircraft use almost any grade of aluminium, where the grade means the specific alloy.
Just that the actual alloy ingots etc. need fuckton of paperwork to be used etc.

#

So using the same material doesn't mean anything.
As they aren't using stuff with those extra certs, as they make the raw material cost about 10 times more than "normal" ingot usually.

night girder
#

I wonder if I should report this discord hardware acceleration thingy somewhere.

#

Like, file a bug report. But with who mhm ๐Ÿค”

edgy hazel
#

I don't quite remember who told me

#

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

abstract hawk
twin dew
#

Yes.
And also papers for the aluminium used since the ore was mined with every step tracked.
And test reports about part of the batch tested to destruction etc.

#

And same for all the other alloy materials.

night girder
#

canon tordu means roughly twisted barrel, it was used to mark blunderbusses way back to show people it was high-quality (military) steel.

#

so military quality as a concept isn't new.

edgy hazel
#

good materials to kill people let's gooo

night girder
#

I did hear plenty of local stories of ex-miliaries that told me that back in the day. When they had to decide "what brand of vehicles" we going to use.

#

Our Military didn't go for the best quality vehicles at all. They went for local ones. hehe

#

So I guess you are kinda right that military quality means jack shit these days ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

Local production is pretty important if actual war breaks out.

charred pewter
#

6400MHz CL32 vs 6000MHz CL30 ... ddr5? CL mean anything anymore?

twin dew
#

For the whole chain needed to get the final product.

night girder
twin dew
#

Yes, it can be done well or poorly.

night girder
jagged snow
edgy hazel
#

I hope every military gets stranded in their garage

night girder
#

I don't think so.

jagged snow
twin dew
#

Well, should work directly.
CL is in clock cycles, and for the actual chips the actual time is what matters.

edgy hazel
#

oh no you've woken RAMdur

twin dew
#

So CL30 on 6000MT/s is 20ns, CL32 on 6400MT/s is same 20ns.

jagged snow
charred pewter
#

hm

jagged snow
#

Glad I was correct

charred pewter

What are rest of the latencies?

charred pewter

lemme google !

someone has a google doc

charred pewter

models: CMK32GX5M2B6400C32 vs CMK32GX5M2B6000C30

twin dew
#

Corsair, please don't get Corsair RAM...

charred pewter
#

never had an issue with them? ... now g.skill on the other hand, so many RMAs

twin dew
#

You don't get to know the actual die without seeing the package.

#

With Corsair.

#

And they hide all the other latencies now too.

edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

so its 'whatever they grab from a bin' ?

charred pewter
#

alright, so whats a GOOD 6400 cl32 set of ram (2x16gb) ?

edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

im only wary about g.skill cause of how much trouble my final sets of ddr4 were with them

#

none of them worked with xmp enabled unless i spent days fiddling numbers in bios

#

i dont need that kind of aggravation ๐Ÿ˜„

#

hynix (g.skill)?

edgy hazel
#

too lazy to google so please to my work for me

charred pewter
twin dew
#

But both of those are probably Hynix, both can be both M and A-die.
Based on the PCPartsPicker latencies for them.

charred pewter
#

(i dislike rgb with a passion thanks)

edgy hazel
#

I gotta do it then

twin dew
#

30-36-36-76 and 32-40-40-84.

charred pewter
#

also the height becomes a problem with the cpu cooler (with rgb ram)...

twin dew
#

But I'm off to bed.
I just personally hate Corsair on the RAM side because of all the stupid and consumer unfriendly stuff they do.

charred pewter
#

hate*?

twin dew
#

And there are many more outside of Corsair and G.Skill around.

edgy hazel
#

he support them

twin dew
charred pewter

๐Ÿ˜„

edgy hazel

twin dew
night girder

When I walk the dog late at night, and I see all those weird colors shining through the windows of houses, I get hella confused.

twin dew

So would have had the exact same problems with RAM from any maker with those same dies.

edgy hazel
night girder
#

Nanoleaf for example.

edgy hazel
night girder
#

This is mine:

edgy hazel
#

I got a gas leak next to my bed so that isn't a good idea

night girder
#

gas leaks aren't a good idea.

#

fix that.

edgy hazel
#

but it made me so funny

charred pewter
#

so the motherboard im looking at, doesnt have any of the 'ripjaws' in its QVL list, and last time i tried getting g.skill ram that wasnt in the sql list, it resulted in sending them back ๐Ÿ˜„

#

tridents are tall though, no idea if it would fit with the PA120

night girder
#

Tomorrow:

twin dew
#

The exact RAM doesn't really matter.
Just the die.

#

The QVLs don't mean much anymore, as they contain shit that needs golden sample MB and CPU to work.

twin dew
#

"We can get this RAM set to run at XMP in one system we have, with best IMC CPU from 1000 we tested, lets add it to QVL".

#

Gigabyte even adds their special sauce RAM that you cannot buy to their QVLs...

night girder
#

Baldur, weren't you off to bed? ๐Ÿคฃ

twin dew
#

They contracted G.Skill to make them ultimate OC RAM stick set at one point.
And have been adding that to all their MB QVLs...

night girder
#

Should have known, the one thing to keep Baldur out of bed. RAM talk ๐Ÿ˜‰

twin dew
#

To be able to put the highest "OC something" RAM numbers into the MB specs.

#

So single special set of RAM, from best dies G.Skill could find.

edgy hazel
charred pewter

heh

edgy hazel

night girder

Oh no. There he is.

charred pewter

twin dew
edgy hazel
twin dew

And has used mixed dies in same SKU etc.

edgy hazel

only something very similar

twin dew
#

No, G.Skill (should?) change their last few letters when die changes, but they don't specify what is what.

charred pewter
edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

the 'trident' version is the same, just a super tall spreader on them which im worried wont fit

night girder
twin dew
#

Should be Hynix M or A, the 102 for last timing is crap, but that is so common.

charred pewter
#

ive got enough air blowing on the ram slots, i dont think a huge heat spreader is required for me

twin dew
#

Not even trying to get that one tight in the XMP.
Partly because Intel CPUs cannot do it tight IIRC?

charred pewter
#

yeah, im not finding a 32-39-39-84 like you mentioned ...

#

or my eyes are bleeing from these terrible search listings in amazon LOL

twin dew
charred pewter
#

you can even pop the spreaders off them all, and everything looks the same

#

and then clamp spreaders on with paper clips ...

#

since their spreaders are crap and dont have clips themselves ๐Ÿ˜„

twin dew
#

RipJaws are the low profile, Trident are the high-profile, then EXPO and XMP variants of the Tridents, and then non-RGB and RGB variants of both of those.

#

Flare are the EXPO low profile.
RipJaws are XMP low profile.

night girder
#

Baldur, is it true that X2 stands for Hynix? And X1 for Samsung? The last two letters. And then you get die. e.g F5-6400J3239G16GX2-TZ5RK

charred pewter
#

er, wrong image ...

#

otherwise they fall off LOL

twin dew
#

The X-45-45, X-46-46, X-48-48 are then other dies at 6400MT/s.

#

Ok, looked the selector wrong, G.Skill doesn't seem to have anything at that speed or above that isn't Hynix.
Corsair got some weird Micron bins at high speeds.

charred pewter
#

6000 30-36-36-76 ...

#

might be micron

twin dew

Would more likely be 30-46-46 if it was Micron AFAIK?

#

@night girder bing chat is better.

I found a few results for "oloy". If you are referring to computer hardware, OLOy is a brand of RAM that is known for its affordability. According to a review by Tom's Hardware, OLOy-branded RAM is some of the cheapest memory on the market, but is this largely heard-of brand reliable and performant enough to buy? While itโ€™s hard to judge long-term reliability, the use of these ICs and modest number of user reviews that complain of actual hardware failure suggest that OLOy DIMMs should last as long as those from other brands ยน. The only real downer we can see is that OLOyโ€™s weak โ€œlifetimeโ€ warranty and short history make long-term support an uncertain proposition ยน.

If you are referring to the phrase "Oloy", it is shorthand for the phrase "Only Losers Obey YOLO," which is a popular acronym used in social media culture. YOLO stands for "You Only Live Once," and it is an expression that encourages people to take risks and live life to the fullest without worrying about the consequences ยฒยณ.

If you are referring to the word "ology", it means "a branch of knowledge: science" โด.

It all depends on how we use the tools.

night girder

edgy hazel
#

wellllll

#

I'd ban deepfake stuff

night girder
#

Well...if I think what you mean yes. But it also has purposes.

edgy hazel
#

If you think that I think about the fact that deepfake porn is an issue in schools already then you're right

night girder
#

Paul Walker for example. They used CGI/AI so they could use him in the Fast and The Furious movies after he died.

#

So for Hollywood. Deepfake can open a lot of doors.

edgy hazel
#

you remember this?

night girder
#

and I was one of the first ones in this chat to warn for the dangers of AI.

edgy hazel
#

a tool

night girder
#

You can strangle someone with it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

edgy hazel
#

so with deepsfakes you have two options for ethics:
go through every single video made with it and make sure the person has consented to it, it's not being done to exploit them and so on
or
ban it

#

because I'll bet you 10k that 0.00001% of deepfakes are done with consent

night girder
#

"sure the person has consented to it, it's not being done to exploit them and so on" - In a democracy yes.

#

Or you can also say, that nobody has any rights to begin with. ๐Ÿคฃ

#

But you are right. It's a difficult one.

edgy hazel
#

hell I made deepfakes without consent of obama

night girder
#

We already have tencent that provides a cloud based deepfake service.

#

And 3 days ago, a political party in Belgium used AI to bring a dead politician back to live.

#

Now it was mentioned in the add that it was AI. But still... raises questions.

visual tree
night girder
charred pewter

if you had the choice of picking up parts at a local microcenter... or just order on amazon next/2day free shipping (all costs being equal) ... which would you go

edgy hazel
# night girder

it's either banning this or banning old people from voting

night girder
#

I would rather have it they just ban deepfakes alltogether. Unless under very strict circumstances: person must be alive, must be done in consent, must be done within ethical consensus (no porn or something).

#

but those "circumstances" I am speaking of better be as strict as possible to prevent loopholes.

#

And then, EU can ban it. But what about other places?

edgy hazel
#

Regulating is just difficult

night girder
#

I saw the same conversation going on about AI going to write reviews. That people hope, that if an AI is writing a review, it will send a flag_ai with the request to the website. So the website knows, "that's AI" and the owner can block it based on the flag. But if there is no law. AI companies will not add the flag by itself.

the size is about the same, just numbers in different W L H

#

and everything else suggests its the exact same product

#

im confused

#

stupid amazon

night girder
#

No, the other onbe is fully made out of silicon.

visual tree
#

Oh, they mixed the dimension order. Guess it's more RPM then

night girder
#

And the other one is made out of aluminum copper AND silicone.

#

I wouldn;t go with a full Silicone one.

charred pewter
night girder
#

Jokes asides, it pisses me off on amazon.

#

Like fill in the freaking specs!

charred pewter
#

yeah...... newegg is terrible on that too

night girder
#

Or do they really mean the whole thing is made out of silicone ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

charred pewter
#

two boards same mfg, but half the details are missing on one vs the other

night girder
#

Yeah, disgusting.

charred pewter
#

i dont know WHERE silicone would be on that ๐Ÿ˜„

night girder
#

Then also a copy paste of the pictures ๐Ÿ‘Œ

charred pewter
#

the only thing i can really tell is different of those THREE (same product) ... is the "Sold By" is either "Thermalright Direct" "Thermalright Direct 2" "THERMALRIGHT.EUR"

night girder
#

I send my thermal thing back to amazon.

charred pewter
#

you did?

#

didnt like it?

night girder
#

nop.

#

we had this conversation way back. So I try to do a TLDR.

#

The cooling unit was a bit crooked. Out of the box. And as some noted, it doesn't mean anything. It would have probably still done a good job. But I didn't like the fact I have a brand new computer, with a crooked tower.

#

I just didn't have much confident.

charred pewter
#

oh, i missed that

#

seems im not the only one asking the question why there are three thermalright stores on amazon lol ...

night girder
#

game is still running btw.

charred pewter
#

multiple alt-tabs ?

night girder
#

for hours

charred pewter
#

turn HW accel back on and see how long it takes to crash?

night girder
#

Good idea for tomorrow. Will let it run for now for more hours.

charred pewter
#

did you do ANYTHING else which may have been it ?

night girder
#

Update Adrenaline. But that update was pretty small. Can be it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

charred pewter
#

maybe, maybe not....

night girder
#

Expanded Vulkan Extenstion Support
Additional Vulkanยฎ extensions. Click HERE for more information.

#

Who knows.

#

if I have time tomorrow I will enable hardware accel and see if it crashes.

charred pewter
#

given it happens between your interaction of gw2 and discord pretty much explicitly ... one app or the other was causing it

edgy hazel
#

I use almost exclusively German shops. I use Amazon to scam

night girder
#

I also try to buy locally.

charred pewter
#

i have a low threshold of "annoyance to drive to a local place" ....

#

if its gonna be more than 5 minutes, im like ... guuuuuuuuuuuuuuh ... ship it

#

and worse if its end of the day friday driving , ugh

night girder
#

I don't have that many options ๐Ÿ˜„

charred pewter
#

so im like, ok, i woulda saved $4 overall driving up to microcenter and spending the next two hours doing so to get some parts 'right now' ..... or i can just say fuck it amazon send me the shit

edgy hazel
#

GET FUCKED SKKRRRR

night girder
#

either order Alternate (Belgium shop) and drive to collect it, but the parts are more expensive then I order at Megekko (Netherlands). But I aint driving to the Netherlands, so I let it deliver.

#

But I order at Megekko most of the times because it's cheaper than Alternate. And those are the only two options I have.

charred pewter
#

heh drive to the netherregions

night girder
#

And Amazon.

charred pewter
#

oh hay, 'no rush shipping get 6% cashback' ... hmm ... i dont NEED this stuff this weekend ...

#

fine sold... time for SAKร‰!

night girder
#

Gonna watch Fast X and eat a Pizza.

#

I have little hope for this one.

edgy hazel
#

it's friday baby

night girder
#

Beertime

#

Love this one.

charred pewter
night girder
#

Man, this opening is already busting me head in

charred pewter
#

you are supposed to use a bottle opener

night girder
#

"You know that ending of the Fast And the Furious blablabal? Well, that's not the ending." ... And the beginning of this movie, is the reshooting of the ending of another movie.

#

you cannot do that!

edgy hazel
#

I'm just playing @twin dews gate

night girder
#

Imagine Lord of the Rings 4, starting with the scene that Frodo throws the ring into mount doom, but then they show us that he missed and the ring isn't actually in the lava hehe

#

That's the shit they are pulling off in the fast-furious 10 atm.

night girder
charred pewter
#

lol

#

Lexy didnt die... she has ... DUM DUM DUM ||brain dramige||

#

i think more people "die" and come back in F&F than your average day time soap operas

edgy hazel
#

I just keep reviving my mage so he can play the fleshbag for the enemies to target

night girder
#

they are just writing whole parts of other movies, just bad writing.

#

instead of providing a setup up in the previous movies when they were shot.

charred pewter
#

i think they lost focus

night girder
#

they do it after the facts.

edgy hazel
#

Bro they have 10 movies

night girder
#

John Wick 5: you know that one dog that died and was the plot of the whole first movie? Well, it turns out. He isn't dead. But in 5, he really dies. And now John Wick is angry and going to take revenge.

#

John Wick 6: ok ok, we know that the dog died. BUT ACTUALLY. It was in hibernation, but someone pulled the plug. Now John Wick is going to have revenge ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

Hobbs n Shaw is tucked in there

night girder
#

Don't get me wrong, up untill now, atleast the movies were consistent(ish) in the story.

charred pewter
#

which is sadly BETTER than Fast X

night girder
#

now from 10 it went out the window.

#

They can rewrite all previous 9 movies and just tell us: that didn't really happen in the previous one.

charred pewter
#

i wish i had not watch 8 9 H&S and 10 ... honestly

night girder
#

I watched 8 yesterday.

#

9 I am skipping, because fuck space.

#

I do like they added Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

charred pewter
#

they are fun actors... no matter what B rated crap they do

night girder
#

Because the car races and chases are shit now. Atleast we can look at some decent martial art fights ๐Ÿ˜„

charred pewter
#

some decent Abs

night girder
#

I just love to see Dwayne Johson throwing people around ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

lol yes

night girder
#

What do you think of Tokio Drift?

charred pewter
#

i liked it ....... not the ending, but they rewrote that anyways ....

night girder
#

It's ... different

#

and I really loved it when it got out.

charred pewter
#

the lead murican actor they had, coulda been anyone else .... better

night girder
#

True, but atleast it was about street racing.

charred pewter
#

yup

night girder
#

and flying into space with a car.

#

or dodging submarines with a car on ice.

charred pewter
#

running away from an ice breaker submarine ... on foot ... yeah ....

#

dont get me started on that airport runway which apparently spanned the entire state of texas .......

night girder
#

What I did like about 8 is, ||that it makes sense that Dom betrayed his team*. The whole son plot was nicely done. A good reason for a man to kill everyone.||

edgy hazel
#

I don't think you need to spoiler fast and furious

charred pewter
#

lol

night girder
#

Good.

#

Just being polite ๐Ÿ™‚

edgy hazel
#

Don't be

#

Let the anger consume you

charred pewter
#

true, true, i try to be careful about any movie, cause sometimes .... people have yet seen it

#

like i wont spoil spaceballs ...

night girder
#

and we all get enough hate in here already for saying dumb shit ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

(speaking of dumb shit, i hope these g-skills i ordered work out)

night girder
#

else just replace the heatsinks.

charred pewter
#

im holding off on a gpu until i feel completely drunk and just buy whatever pops in my mind .... cause $2400 for a single computer part is silly-stupid

#

even if i am TRYING to waste money, its just silly-stupid

edgy hazel
#

Yes

#

You're absolutely right

#

Do the smart thing

#

Go team red

#

We out here

charred pewter
#

i could buy two AMDs, and do a 'giveaway' for the second one, if i was wanting ot waste money

night girder
#

like baldur said: "Make DIMM, slap different heatspreaders on it."

#

G-skill hehe

edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

yikes, cat is running around wild... i better go see whats got her up in a roar

#

im COO/CEO of the gamestore

night girder
#

#

darn it!

#

You should have answered with IT ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

edgy hazel
#

Gamestore

charred pewter
#

ha!

#

Mac/Win Game Store ...

night girder
#

not just any ๐Ÿ˜‰

charred pewter
#

been around since the 90s ... its an old place, we sell shit

night girder
#

Oh man.

visual tree
night girder
#

And I've been shitting on CEO's like it's nothing (sometimes in this chat). Nothing personal.

charred pewter
night girder
charred pewter
#

eh, i dont mind ... i dont really consider myself one, its just the title

night girder
#

You threat your employees fairly?

#

Do they have insurance? I have so many questions now ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

lol

edgy hazel
#

There is a difference between CEO and CEO

night girder
#

There is?

#

Oh, one is crooked and one is straight ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

LOL!!!!

edgy hazel
night girder
#

- Frigidman has left the chat

edgy hazel
#

There are ones that prioritize money and ones that want the company to actually run well

charred pewter
#

ive basically been with it since the start (when it was a different name even), and yeah ... im actually one of the lowest paid people in the company

night girder
charred pewter
#

ive always pushed to make sure things are done better.... not just cut corners and make a buck at the epense of customers

edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

i used to butt heads with marketting guys a LOT years ago

edgy hazel
charred pewter
#

yeah dont get me started on the money =p ... im not big on that

night girder
#

Respect that.

#

You are probably big on money though ๐Ÿคฃ

charred pewter
#

and i wasnt always co-owner of the company... thats a new development, which im trying to get used too

night girder
#

I mean, wanting to buy 4090 for fun and giggles ๐Ÿ˜‰

charred pewter
#

right, i was thinking what to get that i need (want?) that could be a tax write off ... sadly, its too cheap to make a difference, and way too expensive to be a smart buy =p

visual tree
# charred pewter lol no ๐Ÿ˜„ although we have to post ESRB on some

#Shorts
They always have to over exaggerate the mature rating as if they are on a mission to stop you from playing the game smh

night girder
#

Fuck, my mom had a one person company.

#

And she was able to put a laptop for me in her bookings.

charred pewter
#

im gonna hold off on the HX1000i, since i actually dont need that unless im getting a new gpu

night girder
#

but then again, her company was on a way smaller scale.

charred pewter
#

true, theres some things that work.... if you did work (anything) for her company, it could be written off

#

computer still going? @night girder

night girder
#

yes ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

#

I might have to apology to AMD for talking smack about the brand.

charred pewter
#

heh

#

and then squarely send discord and angry email ๐Ÿ˜„

night girder
#

the thing is, we can't be sure what is going on.
