What governs flow rate? I have enough pumps to get the water up the hill, but now i had a fuse trip twice and i only have one coal generator online with barely anything plugged into it yet. so i'm thinking water flow is an issue but idk how to make it flow fast
mk1 pipes have a max flow rate of 300, mk2 600
so if youre supplying 8 generators with mk1 pipes, for example, youll need multiple pipelines
since 8 generators (at 100% clock speed) consume >300 water
i saw that, but when i look at the flow rate its nowhere near 300
you can do some overhead images of your pipe and generator layout in #math-and-meta
really hard to trouble shoot in this channel
but yeah there might be a lot of factors

yeah, you end up using pipes pretty much everywhere. keep your pipe networks small, simple and clean and you'll not have many problems

What does throughput mean? I've seen it thrown around but I'm not exactly sure if it's referring to something like input to output or something
It’s how much you can move through a logistics system
Mk1 belts have a throughput max of 60 for example

like if you're having issues getting your pipe manifold moving your 540 fluid pm

if you have a hidden bit of lower mk belt in a belt manifold, that'll also do it
believe it or not i have 480 generators running on manifolds 60 generators deep (two branches each) on 4 mk2 pipes doing 500 each
NO power instability, even though # of generators and amount of fuel being made is PERFECTLY matched, even after a buncha hours
yeah that's not too hard as long as you're not doing silly things with them
i just had to sloop the blenders makin rocket fuels to boost it to 600 for the first few hours while waiting for everything to fill
after that i could take em out and everything worked perfectly
easier to just under clock a few machines to fill
i suppose, but there are only 20 blenders fueling (5 on each of 4 pipes) fueling 480 generators
it only requires slooping 4 blenders to boost each of the 4 pipes from 500 to 600 rocket fuel
yeah just under clocing 1 gen on each line works well
i disconected the first few of each row to help fill the pipes faster yeah
anything makes sense to save time when all you're doin is waiting lol

never had to do that, what worked for is to fill all pipes to trhe max before turning on production
Water towers do work to replace pumps but my advice regarding pipes is to always keep setups as simple as possible. A water tower is decidedly not that. Just use pumps...

Theoretically yes, practically I'm not sure. Fluids are wonky
i would really like to get the alt recipes now so i don't end up ripping my entire oil production apart to utilize them
if I have to have rubber/plastic in my inventory in order to roll them, i'm just gonna sloppily through together enough to make some of each
The prerequisite for being able to roll a recipe is always unlocking a milestone and/or a MAM research

No, a bus system is when you use belts to transport commonly used goods over a distance to a processing location. I use trains to transport most everything. I only mentioned it because they said they had no open belts

Has anyone else had a bug with Gastanks? For example, I had about 3000 Gastanks in a sealed system, if you can call it that. That is, empty Gastanks-> drone-> nitrogen in the forest-> pumping nitrogen into them-> drone-> base-> unpacking, etc.
I just went into the game. And there are no Gastanks. Everything is empty. I see the factory has stopped, and there is 0 nitrogen. Tell me, is this a bug or some feature of the Gastanks in the drone that can disappear?

A lot of people are too focused on having a "base" and don't realise that they don't need to bring everything to one location

i looked at the recipe for thermal prop rockets and was like 
build seperate factories for each phase 4 part, physically seperate them and don't share parts between them
i do feel like i did that a bit LMAO , i also read that I should look into making factories for specific parts and stuff , which i wasnt doing i was just rebuilding each phase more or less for the stuff I needed in the same relative area

yup, a number of recipes and nodes are changed though so a bunch of stuff will likely be broken or burried in terrain
I saw some of the progress from 0.8 was broken, but after spending hundreds of hours it would be nice to keep the buildings

If you feed something with a mk 2 at max flow, try to have the pipes that merge into it and split from it be mk 1 (if you dont need to merge or split away more than 300/min)
Also, try to have as even of a split if possible while you are near the flow limit

make the pipes into each refinery mk 1, connect the mk 2 pipe that carries 600/min as close to the middle of the manifold if possible.

the gravity tends to pull fluids back out of pipes, but in a manifold fluid usually wants to have the same level in every pipe.
So that tends to pull down the fluid level of all pipes.
Its a big and complex topic.

You could call this fluidfactory
so 1 smelter puts out iron which i split into 2 lots of rods, 1 of those is made into screws. then i go to feed it into an assembler and see the rod input would be filled 2-3x quicker than the screws one. should i be mathing this (i'm not many hours in, i just got coal power) or just let the belts fill up with overflow?

As "Swedish time" has two meanings, you are currently at CEST, not "normal" CES.
You cannot expect people around the world to know when EU switches between summer and winter times.
That's exactly why I'm sending "Swedish" times, so ppl who toss it into google automatically get the one correct today

This is exactly why using UTC is so important, as people keep using the winter time variant timezone codes even during summer so often.
But in spring and fall it is real pain to try to determine which they actually mean, when you don't know the specific countrys switch schedule.

I bought satisfactory 2019 march 22 , early access at Epic store. Is there possibility to transfer the game to steam ? But I guess not :? Kinda want to try to play multiplayer too 😄 always solo. Is there diffrences for online joining steam or epic ?

And for crossplay between Steam and Epic owners, everyone needs to use Epic Online Services anyways.

Ok, I’m new to oil producing, and have downtime while I’m at work. Anyone willing to talk me through the basics?
So far I have 6 pumps (forget the quality) and they pump into 8 refineries, is that not effecient enough or can I go larger?
i would encourage you to just experiment, the game does a good job of giving you all relevant numbers
first thing i usually do is make a jet pack and package fuel, cos it's so good for exploring, but it depends on where you are at
you may want to focus on fuel power, or producing plastic/rubber first
usually you can get enough out of one oil node for a few refineries worth of production though
if overclocked, that is
I got 4 producing rubber and 4 going to plastic. Was seeing that it was backing up and shutting my pumps off. Was just curious, I’m at work so experiment time is limited lol. And my friend is researching everything under the sun and I’m behind on building everything. I’m trying to get it set up to set and forget in a way
with oil refining there is usually a byproduct to deal with
would recommend using satisfactorytools.com to crunch the numbers for you
if the byproduct, e.g. heavy oil residue or polymer resin backs up, it'll stop all production
Well depends what are you aimin for 😉 Like at this save -- I have 1 pump that feeds 7 ref to make plastic, and residue to make fuel for power plant.
That oil pump generates 200 m3 overclocked , Then got 2 oil pumps that generates 600m3 output for 12 refin , that make plastic, rubber , fuel , and splits to turbo fuel , generating some power plants -- well dependin on your goal
once done properly though you're right, you can set it and forget it. If the production line is stable, it'll just keep going as long as there is power and adequate sinking/storage etc
an oil pump would usually be either 150/300/600 fully overclocked, for impure/normal/pure

but yeah it all depends on your goal. With oil it's generally down to:
- fuel power (and packaging fuel for jetpack, if you want that)
- producing plastic and rubber
The next update they should make a rocket launcher with rocket fuel

You should consider thinking about your builds in terms of resources used per minute instead of number of machines
Because the amount of resources used will change with different recipes

Just asking “is X refineries enough” can’t be answered directly without also considering the recipes and other parts of the production chain, not to mention over/underclocking

Yea I do not overbuild I make sure everything is running at 100% it takes that much resources it makes that amount, other buildings take only the amount made and so on 🙂 no overfill

Hi. Can someone help me out - me and my friend have a world with over 400 hours , one day he couldnt join to it and we didnt change anything. My other friend tried to join it and it worked so i send the first friend my save just to see if i could join on the same file and i could not. We tried the same world but a realy old save with under 200 hours in it and that one worked fine. Also tried reinstalling the game. I realy dont want to start from 0 when 1.1 comes out

you legit have a hand tool that looks like the object scanner but when u point at belts/Pipes it shows how much items its injected, the limit throughput on the belt and how much it is required for the output
i use it mainly to know exactly how many items are coming out of belts etc to avoid math mistakes

Depends who you ask, but I like it more. It has less thrust to put you in the air quickly and ascend but you can hover for ages before it runs out.
It's the best fuel for air uptime and gets you higher than turbofuel iirc

The only jetpack fuels worth using are liquid biofuel and ionized
Rocket fuel is a decent substitute for ionized before you get it, but you can also just make a hypertube cannon blueprint instead

I view liquid biofuel as an alternative to rocket fuel with the current balance, and even then it's good to carry and use both.
some would say no, it's an alternative to turbofuel - or even that it's worse than turbofuel, depending on how highly you rate air control, boost power and longevity. But it's very good.
and regular fuel is not 😛

Sulfur is a bit limited so theres that, but theres plenty of stuff that gives compacted coal as byproduct later on, rly depends on what you need

fwiw sulfur is basically only used for power and vehicle fuel
so you dont need to worry too much about saving it

basically adding sulfuric accid to a raw mat to get more ingots out of it
The advantage of leached recipes is that they produce a ton of ingots per machine
Pure recipes are similarly efficient in terms of resources but require a lot more machines (hence power)
But the sulfuric acid uses extra machines to make in the first place, so.... mreh
i prefer going the pure ones

There are a couple other alts that use sulfur, either directly or indirectly, but these are typically very small quantities

Super state computers use batteries for example, but combined with classic batteries you can make 10 supercomputers from 90 sulfur
So not really a super significant cost
Or turbo diamonds uses sulfur (turbofuel) to make diamonds but again in very small amounts
so, for the plalce where i´m at i think using sulfur to make compacted coal could sllow down alll the process

just paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames in the file explorer address bar
You may have to enable "show hidden files"
or press WIN+R and paste there
that should work regardless of hidden files (though the first should too I think)
