Anyway... Each chara has different progression. Whether you do it on legacy or current cycle, you will always have to redo story.
Hardcore is just a different option upon creating a new character and has no bearing on it.
So yes. New chara = start over. New cycle = start over. Only stash and stuff is the same IF its in the same "server" (legacy stash, cycle stash, i think hardcore is locked to current chara though and is also separate)

US West here, I got to play for about 6-7 hours last night before I decided to go to bed. Made it to about level 27-28 on a new cycle character (online). It's definitely a user load issue. The dev team is working on it and usually these things are resolved within a week of launch.

What I find funny is that offline play is perfectly available if people just want to play, yet people rather complain than run through the game offline until the problems are addressed. Such is life i guess

Offline mode still allows you to see and type in global chat. Only thing you cannot do in offline mode are leaderboards and use your cosmetics. Sadly any char created in offline mode can’t be brought to online mode. Which is fine for me I’ll create a new char online once all stuff is settled in a few days or weeks if it takes. Hope it just takes days for them though cause the internet will be haters and continue to review bomb sadly.

I don't know if it's even possible, but the devs could make the "Online" universe, "Offline" until they fix the server problem. This way players could at least progress through the campaign and enjoy the game until it's 100% safe to go "Online". For those that want to play the game online, playing it offline is a literal waste of time. Again, don't know if they could make it, but would stop a LOT of the review bombing. People turn up to McDonalds but the ice cream is broken. People show up to buy food but the food they want is out of stock. You go to check out but there's an enormous queue. Problems happen in the physical world all the time. This kind of problem with an online service is a) unavoidable unless you want to pay about four times more for the product, b) nothing new at all, players should be expecting this kind of thing at this point for popular launches, c) no different to the myriad problems you can encounter when buying a good or trying to use a service in the physical world. But more importantly, insulting and disrespecting the devs is pointless and indeed counterproductive, I understand that people are annoyed but it will change nothing except make the devs miserable for no reason. There's no way to know what the actual problem is and who, if anyone, should be blamed for it without actually seeing many details that no outsider can see.

The comparison to a warranty is a bad joke. No warranty can cover any online service, ever. That's just not how the Internet actually works. Even the offline mode can probably never have a warranty as Steam or Windows could push an update that breaks the game. I agree with judging game developers on the quality of their products, but this should be on factors that are actually within their control, like game design problems.

@austere bear Sadly, hardware errors and defects are quite common (never heard of Spectre/Meltdown?) but also, hardware is designed in a completely different way to software. If you think they are designed the same way, you need to learn a lot more about how software is done. In a hardware system you design the thing one time up front, test that, then ship it. In a software system, the thing you're trying to build is continually changing whilst you're building it, and then keeps changing after you've built it even if you didn't change it when everybody else in the stack (think Steam, Windows, cloud provider, whatever) make their own changes. Everybody who tried to manufacture their software the same way they would build a CPU, by designing everything up front, testing it completely, and then shipping it, went out of business a long time ago and modern software uses a totally different, more reactive process because that's the only way to make money doing it. But it's also far more economical to test a product that costs $600 than a product that costs $40, and it's vastly more economical to test individual, isolated hardware units than it is to test an online system where the state of any part can impact the state of any other part.

There is not, and never will be, any defect-free software, any problem-free launch, or any online service that is never down. Unexpected events happen all the time. Half of them aren't even in the dev's control in the first place since all online services are about a thousand different layers controlled by a thousand different companies.

Cycle is just seasons. It will be put on the normal servers as soon as there is a new season, so there is 0 reason not to make a character on Cycle. The benefits to cycles/seasons is that most people are playing on it, it has leaderboards, and usually unique items/mechanics. Currently it’s the first season so you only benefit from half of this.

The graphics cards aren't recalled partly because they ship driver updates which is exactly the same model here where you just have to deal with the problem until they fix it in software, and also, the hardware is far easier to verify for many reasons, and double also, the service being down for a few days is not the same as a total product recall where you lose the whole product, rather than losing access for a short time. Most fundamentally, whilst I don't disagree with you that some games do ship in dismal states at launch and there are probably many convenient examples like No Man's Sky, the service being down temporarily is not a dismal state. It is an entirely normal occurrence for an Internet service. The dismal states games launch in primarily concern bad gameplay design, lack of content, bad monetisation, and other factors that are much more within their control. But as far as I'm aware none of those issues are present here. It's just a totally normal Internet service outage. Aggravating? Yes. Dismal? No. We should hold games companies responsible for their failures.. but this is not a particularly epic failure, it's really more of a minor whoopsie.

absolutely. Upgrading your equipment through reforging is essential all through the leveling process. You'll get plenty of mats. Craft early and craft often.

depends on where you're at... if you have most of the leveling gear you want, and you're mid to high level, you can certainly exclude blue... if there are specific things you're still looking for, you can always override and re-show them, either by affix or base type, with a higher priority filter above your hide rule.
