Well basically your main defense is your ward + recovery so you need either Exsanguinous or Shroud of Obscurity at the bare minimum and you need the Last Steps of the Living with a good roll too

Once you get those two you just stack health + % health medium size idols and a bunch of small ward retentions and you end up with a sizable 4k+ ward

After the third quest you have unlocked the next monolith. You go to the next monolith. You keep doing this till you have finished the last 3 lvl 90 monoliths where you will now unlock the ability to do all monoliths at lvl 100 with 50 base corruption. Now you are in the endgame.
