Think about games you know which have a top-down camera or a sideways camera. Isometric camera is similar to top-down, but it's angled.
Diablo, PoE, LE, Grim Dawn etc all have isometric camera perspectives.

I also play FFXIV, it has a great in depth story with a wonderful crafting system and unique social aspect that I haven't really seen duplicated in other MMO's. I highly recommend it. A small warning though, A Realm Reborn's storyline can be a bit of a slog to get through. 👍

FF14 definitely feels like the "king of MMOs" right now. WoW doesn't release player numbers so we don't know for sure, but I'd also recommend FF14 if you want a better social experience.

Lost Ark checks the isometric camera but.. that's about it, the itemization and minutia of gameplay try to cosplay an ARPG but after a few hundred hours in LA I can confidently say it's very far (not to mention that any good quality of itemization is invalidated by the not great community, but that's another issue)

The combat and skill system are very much inline with an ARPG, the itemization is there but it's lackluster, nonetheless it's there. It doesn't squarely fit into the same narrow parameters that a typical ARPG does, but it is fundamentally an ARPG with a strong emphasis on social MMO qualities in my opinion. Not that it matters, but Lost Ark itself categorizes itself as an MMO ARPG.
That's my opinion as someone with 8000+ hours in the game and countless thousands of hours across ARPGs.
That said, it's not a good ARPG lol
It's possible for something to be a genre, but not a good representation of it.

I guess I can kinda see it for the player combat move set, but combat is so much more than that right, ARPG combat got a characteristic pacing, characteristic enemy composition which calls for both AoE and single target in a fluid way, stuff like that... but yeah, that is more than just the camera

Combat is actually one of the main things ARPG players heavily praise Lost Ark for.
Many going as far as to say Lost Ark has the best combat out of any ARPG game.
This comes from many veteran ARPG (Diablo, PoE etc) players.

Skill rotations are inevitable when you have so many active skills and a lot of telegraphed content. Don't think this diminishes its status as an ARPG, skill rotations are something people do in typical ARPGs already depending on your build and context.
Usually with bosses, you often see skill rotations even in games like Last Epoch, Diablo etc.
In Lost Ark's case, a typical build has many more active skill buttons to press and most content is focused around boss fights.

I guess it depends, my latest PoE bonk build is very much a buffing up simulator, but my LE sentinel build has an attack and a couple skills with unique purposes - one to prime for a big single target hit, one to move back into combat quickly after dodging, one to put excess mana into next attack if I've been dodging, one to tank a big hit if I can't/don't want to dodge
It might not be meta, but the important part is that I can work with the game enough to make this

Yeah Lost Ark is not a good ARPG, it has no build diversity whatsoever.
You will be forced to play the 2 or 3 meta builds that exists for each class if you want to engage with high end content which is the only thing that matters in the game.
Doesn't help that some of your build is entirely at the mercy of RNG as well, such as stone cutting.
As in, you cannot trade cut stones, you have to cut it yourself
And whether you get what you want, which can be build-enabling / build-defining is entirely dependent on RNG.

There's so much more you can do in PoE whether through crafting or messing with the passive tree / jewels / gems to make temporary trade offs in order to make up for important things you need like resists.
Gearing in LA is probably one of the biggest reasons I quit the game. Not just gear acquisition, but honing gear as well. TLDR the game just doesn't respect your time.

Basically Albion and EVE are larger sandboxes. EVE in particular has a vast amount of game systems you can engage with in a single persistent universe with a vastly greater number of concurrent players. Albion is similar to EVE in that regard, it tries to have a single shared world (as much as it can) to create a persistent economy where crafting and trading is more meaningful.
Ashes of Creation is a highly anticipated game currently in development that will also fit into that same persistent PvP sandbox category, looking forward to that.

Yep, they have effectively forced PvP and full loot loss on death. The economic demand for goods is generated by people actively engaging in PvP and destroying loot.

Based on your gameplay this is going to be either casual or hardcore.

Many people quit playing wow lately. There is Sod,HC,Classic servers and also tons of Private servers where u dont have to pay monthly.

I don’t think the “nostalgia” appeal works when less and less of the larger gaming community are old enough to feel nostalgia for these games.
Some games are still popular, but onboarding new players will always be important. Which WoW has actually done recently, players aren’t “leaving” WoW right now, it’s actually drawn in a lot of new and old players alike.
When it comes to MMO’s, my personal choices flit between Runescape 3, Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2. I’m just a huge Elder Scrolls fan so I love having all that extra story in ESO.

You should've seen when it first released, it was much worse. Don't get me wrong, D2 was one of the greatest games for its time and defined an entire subgenre of RPGs, but like you said the game just does not hold up to today's standards. D2R is a highly praised modern remaster of D2 with active seasons and despite that its playerbase is effectively non-existent. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but it wears off quickly when faced with reality.

Started playing Wow classic day 1 at release and quit at Woltk/Cata. (850days/20400 hours played ingame).
From Pve to Pvp server number 1(Gehennas) Horde in classic.The difference population wise between Vanilla release and Cata classic is like day/night.
SoD took bit of the playerbase (clueless decisions non classic related) , HC took also bit of the playerbase (not for everybody) etc.
Also Parsing wise u can notice if the game is active or not. If you parse in a boss fight x 99 and that 99 remains there for weeks means game is dead.

With PoE, it's easier to quantify because obviously we've already played the game. By the time you spend $30 on the handful of MTX most people agree are "mandatory" you would have already played the entire campaign and had a good idea of what value you're getting out of that investment.
But I'd still take the same approach with other games too, if I can get away with spending $30-$50 in MTX and enjoy thousands of hours, that's worth it.

In a video game, buying convenience is buying power. Convenience reduces effort, you achieve more through reduced effort. Imagine in PoE having to manage all of your currency and maps in just 4 tabs and having no access to sell on the trade site. Someone who has all of this vs someone who doesn't will have wildly different endgame experiences.
There's technically no line, which is why I was saying everyone draws the line differently.
With how small stack sizes are, I'd probably have all 4 of my free stash tabs filled with currency alone lol
