TheoTown files are located under such directories:

  • Windows: C:\Users(insert username)\TheoTown or %USERPROFILE%\TheoTown
  • Linux: ~/TheoTown

  • Android: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/info.flowersoft.theotown.theotown/files
    By default you should be in /storage/emulated/0/. Uninstalling the game on Android will delete all files, unless you decide to keep the files when prompted by uninstaller. (android 11 onwards restricts access to external storage for apps, so if the files cannot be accessed this way, opt for the in-build manager explained below)
  • ios: Search "TheoTown" in the file manager app

If you cannot access game files through these directories, game has an in-built file manager for mobile devices which is accessible from the region view menu.

You can find your plugin, music, region and city files there as well as logs for debugging purposes.

After I created the main plugin I copied and pasted its id into the strument: animation dev tool. I used it to add lights. After I made 125 layer with many types of lights, I saved all the layers. Then I copied them and pasted them in the json text of the plugin. But when I uploaded my completed plugin into the game, theotown changed every animation dev tool light with the first light that you can see in the that strument: 1x1l

Maybe that’s the whole issue because, like you see from his screenshot, each of his lights is individual and not just one image covering the entire building. This causes coordinate issues and misplacement of where the light should be and could be, which can be eliminated if he uses one single image instead of individual images for each light.

I don't know how to calculate the coordinates of the lighting animations, which I draw on Ibis Paint. I use the lights from the Animation Dev Tool, then save the individual layers and finally report the coordinates in the plugin's JSON text (adding "animation":[{ "id":...). In fact, I stopped calculating the coordinates for the position of the smoke in Ibis Paint because it was wrong every time. In fact, to find the coordinates of the smoke's position, I load the plugin ID into the Animation Dev Tool then I position a simple light where the smoke should be and at that point I write the coordinates in the JSON text and thanks to this the smoke is almost always positioned correctly or slightly offset by a few pixels.

in order to cover it you need to add more pixels which cover the next segment, but the location of road and sidewalk pixels on the next segment is different for another hill and a flat section. i plan to just add a version that copies the bottom row of pixels of a flat section and one for another hill, and then when i build i can use the flat section road at the top and steep versions for the rest of the slope to get perfect resaults

i used this since its within my level of understanding and relatively accurate for concrete and asphalt (since im making a road plugin)

it was pretty hard to conceptualize the angle of the light source on the isometric theotown cube but once i did the calculations werent that hard, pretty similar to the physics 12 i did last semester actually. i was able to calculate where the light is since shadows are directly to the right and the same height as the object, the sun should be 45 degrees above the horizon to the left

I have a new problem with light again. This morning I added the lights to this plugin. I worked in this mode: I created a part of the lights by myself using ibis paint, then I copied the id of my own animation and I put it into animation dev tool (the animation that I created is named "28000.night". Then I added the lights 1x1l and cutetraffoc to the vehicles and to the three street lamps.
After I uploaded the plugin into my manager plugin, it was working. But this afternoon when I restarted the game, this plugin stopped to work

I discovered why for the other plugin, there was a problem with id of animation dev tool lights. When we save every layer, the game maintain only the id of the first layer saved. So I changed the name of some lights
