The thing is, my family did use to have a few large properties of that style years or decades ago, a few were sold due to debts inherited from the world wars, and another burnt and while still owned by the family (another branch from my parent's) has never been repaired

For the kind of houses I have shown above, they are usually sold fairly cheap but are expensive to maintain, and the idea would be for us to invest in the estate to make an income, there are several options:

• turn a portion of the plot into a floriculture, viticulture, pomology, arboriculture area
• buy some livestock and turn it into a dairy
• turn a portion of the building into a inn or an hotel, especially if it is big
• host large events (weddings, cousinades, reenactments, if it's in a large town, rallyes, balls, galas, etc...)
• open a museum (especially true in some rare cases for buildings that are listed as historical monuments
• rent rooms or (in some rare cases) offices or coworking spaces, etc...
