-chester, -cester, and -caster are all variants of the same suffix from latin castrum, and i feel like between -chester and -cester it’s fairly evenly split (manchester, colchester, winchester; leicester, worcester, gloucester)
also -cester is usually pronounced ‘ster’ for some reason as well
