I think the customers each say something displeased no matter how well you do, I remember accidentally messing up the dentist one and getting a 0 on it but then at the other shops when I got perfect scores the customers still said something like “it’s okay I guess, it’s better when ____ is here”

I think I decided, after going back and playing through the other Corner Shop games, I think this one might be the weakest in the series. It just doesn’t play as well without a touchscreen, and the endgame grind to get all Royal shops is an absolute slogfest (it usually is but given that a lot of the games here are hit-or-miss it REALLY hurts this time)

BUT

free updates are a big plus, and the characters & shops look gorgeous

I think I’d give it like a solid 5 out of 10, I don’t regret buying it

and at least it wasn’t $60

I’m just happy to see the series back at all

My original prediction was that the next corner shop game would be a mobile game with in-app purchases/microtranscations, a mid console game trumps that any time

Someone pointed out that it’s kind of boring that you can’t customize the town at all beyond the upgrades, every Corner Shop had a mode where you could customize a room for your Tama and talk with them personally and I miss that!

I really, REALLY think the Switch 2 version would have benefited from having most, if not all games function with mouse controls. It's such an easy way to parallel touch screen controls and would have made it way easier and comfortable to play, even if Joy-Con 2's aren't amazing as mouses or anything.

(Fun fact, mouses is actually the plural for a computer mouse)

They could have even gotten away with having motion controls (like a pointer). The biggest problem with the game is that it’s so SLOW

I felt like I was losing my goddamn mind trying to max out afternoon tea and the night pool

And I STILL have to get maximum evaluation on everything which means I have to play MORE

I don’t even play the games properly now. I just do the bare minimum to get 3 smilies

I still have to do my store rankings. Afternoon Tea is going straight to the bottom that’s for sure lmao

Quite possibly the most tedious and boring corner shop game yet

The other problem with Plaza is it doesn’t give you any instructions?? Just basic controls, but that’s not enough to help for most of the games if you aren’t coming into it with prior Corner Shop experience

you can literally just put one or two of the specified theme items. just make sure you have at least one of every type of object

but they seem to give you 3 smilies if you put at least one decoration, one thing on each tier of the display, and one drink

I think it would have actually made him feel more special if he didn't show up as much

I get excited seeing Gotchimotchi and Makiko cause they're more rare

I maxed the teriyaki shop. Didn't feel like it took as long as the main shops to upgrade. The parent you work with seems to be random when you enter.

One complaint for this game I have is theres no instructions for how to play. The shops leave it up to you to figure it out.

"Nostalgic Tune" is the Meme Work theme from the 1st game!!

The reason I'm so shocked is because it's a full HQ version of the song, but this version of the theme wasn't even used or present in the 3DS remake!

So this is essentially a brand new remastered version of this tune!

The 3DS game did something weird with the Meme music, making a much slower and calmer version of the original Idle theme and then using that original Idle theme as the Work theme

This is the Work theme from the 1st game, but the one in Plaza is a full HQ remaster of it so yay :D I'm so glad they included it

So I found out last night it pops up if you're in the middle of a "quest" or "task" with an NPC. I talked to Oyajitchi, and he asked me what love is, so it prompted me to look at one of the two locks on the gate. Then the little dialogue thing popped up, I suppose it's just a reminder in case you run off to do something else and find yourself unable to switch partners or do other "quests" as you're in the middle of one.

But it could be that there are certain prerequisites before unlocking it

I haven't started a fresh save file to see, so I unlocked it as soon as I opened the game and exited the town hall

Ooh, it could be you need to open and complete some or all of the Takoyaki Shop first since it continues the three papa's storyline

Heyhey! My best friend from the US got me a US-assigned gift card and I used it on Tamagotchi Plaza by changing my account's region to the US. If I switch back to Poland (after contacting customer service to do that manually cuz I've still got a dollar in my funds I can't really use, so they'll have to terminate it), will I be able to buy the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack for the game without any issues? I've seen that some games allow that and it really depends on software

I don't have Reddit, though I've already seen an official article saying that compatibility depends on the software and getting the Upgrade Pack from a different region eShop is not prohibited, it's just recommended to get it from the same store region you also got the game from to ensure its compatibility

I always thought that if they made a new corner shop it would be a mobile game full of microtransactions, so to have a new entry that’s just a video game, even if it’s not a great one, feels very good

I think it’s cute and a fun romp if you just want a simple game, and getting to run around as Memetchi automatically makes it GOTY material

also a bit of people say in their direct reactions "tamagotchi more like TOMODACHI" and that makes me upset to think people think of our game as something trying to be like tomodachi because "tamagotchi" sounds similar to it

I think it was mainly just ironic that two similarly-sounding games were announced in that Direct, I can't imagine that alone would cause people to say "the Tamagotchi game" is bad in comparison. If anything, people could easily still be hung-up on Tomodachi Life being an Animal Crossing clone (it's not) especially cause this one's more tropical like New Horizon (all the games take place on an island, anyway but I digress 🙄)

I agree tho that Plaza isn't like...a masterpiece or anything, even for typical Tamagotchi game standards (which in and of themselves aren't easy to define, since they can be all over the place in quality and design xD). It does lack in a lot of ways and doesn't quite live up to its selling price, but it's a cozy continuation of the Corner Shop franchise which we all kinda thought was dead, so it does feel like it appeals more to either diehard Tama fans and like...Japanese audiences in particular.

Yeah I think the game has been received much more strongly in Japan

Certainly marketed more. It got its own press events and meet & greets with Mametchi & co. while Nintendo of America said “well… here ya go”

I remember that Direct man, I was SCREAMING seeing tamas there

on top of a new Tomodachi Life & Rhythm Heaven being announced (two franchises I also heavily enjoy)… 10 out of 10

Even if Tama Plaza is kinda mid it doesn’t change the raw excitement I felt seeing Tamagotchis back on consoles again

To its credit, Adventure Kingdom is pretty, cute, & chock-full of references to both the tama anime and a lot of surprisingly recent media stuff??? but it has the issue of being trapped on Apple Arcade (so you have to pay a subscription to play it, and non-Apple users are boned)

I may be weird but Plaza was my first corner shop game and I love it. I still hop on now and then because I’m slowly working for all the park upgrades. It’s not perfect but I have really enjoyed it

I think it's a very good game as long as you understand what it's trying to be. it's just a chill Do Tasks game with tamagotchis and that's all it needs to be, really
overpriced, yes, but I don't regret it, I think it's incredibly fun

Can only play lessons at first.
You start with only 2 lessons:
Humoresque is long
The happy farmer is short

Must beat each lesson 3 times with varying difficulty.
Upon beating a lessons 3 times you unlock new lessons and the ability to play that song in the concert.

The shop doesn't upgrade it looks like.
No idea how many unlockable songs there are. I stopped after doing the lessons happy farmer 3 times and Humoresque once

I did buttons because screw mouse controlls. Its so easy to tip the mouse over because of the joycon shape
