I was looking at the Speedrun.com page and I saw a 100% category. I'm aware that for glitches people would want to downpatch, and I don't know if all the same features are in the older versions.

since 100% would take a while to do, I was wondering if something like the toggle options for auto cook and auto fish would be considered "cheating" or "Poor sportspersonship"

also 100% is actually quite a bit faster on newest patch despite some of the skips being patched

Well the skips never really helped to begin with. But yeah the no hold events saves like 5 minutes alone and group inspire saves probably more.

It is ok, local recordings with some type of timer is also acceptable. You may use a recording software of your choice, but I recommend OBS. It is free and has (video) tutorials online to help you with the setup. You really only need the game feed, [game audio (which comes desktop)] and timer like livesplit. This is only necessery if you want your speedrun record to the boards.

Decided to test out NMG and decided to run on old patch but just spent an hour trying to fish and didnt get any special fish to get the talisman.

Pet the dog would require getting a dog and completing DW3 to unlock more interactions with the followers. It basically would just be blitz those crusades and hope you get a dog in DW2 or DW3.

Ive had Ratau pull cuthulu as the 3rd follower after DW1 if that could be a dog then you could blitz the crusades even faster.

im gonna be running any% unrestricted in a hotfix on monday (april 10th) and ive been doing some derusting. had this run just a bit ago. darkwood was trash, but had a near hitless silk cradle (hit by sc2 boss and shamura). anchordeep was also trash, as was anura where i died to heket. still, went fairly well and still finished sub 1:30 with a death to a bishop. my estimate is like a 1:35

Shamara being dead cuts a few cutscenes in the earlier areas and it puts the hardest part if the run earlier if it ends up ruining a run.

Dann is correct. Decorations are blue followers are white. The bishops always will drop at least 1 blueprint for the crown. The other drop can be anything

Controllers can press b to drop to the bottom of the menu so you can navigate that menu in two button presses.

The map would be quicker with a mouse.

Major glitches are:
Follower cloning (opening doors without sufficient follower count)

I thought this only applied to the cloning glitch of rolling in and out of the room, cause the doors are just open to me as long as there is one in the pentagram, but it doesnt save me any time because it doesnt work for the gateway

if you're on the most up to date obs version there's something called application audio capture

It's pretty much just a matter of knowing your limits and being able to pace yourself

It's a very challenging game mentally to run, so knowing how much you can take before you start to resent the game is a skill in itself

I didn't learn my own limits for ages, there was a good period where I would just grind runs out for like 8-9 hours a day

Most of my resets eould come in the first 15-20 mins

So I eventually realised that for me it was best to focus on getting one full run out, didn't matter if it was a perfect one or not

I just needed to get a completion so I could improve my gameplay in later sections rather than just spending all my time on the first portion of the game

But yeah you gotta figure out how much you can handle, and ik it's the worst when you get a super sick run and then some small detail you missed unfortunately invalidates it (trust me it's happened a hell of a lot with this game haha)

And that's just something you come to learn over time

If we're talking about learning to run, try doing 1 run every day or every other day for a bit. You'll melt your brain and will to continue if you do more, since this game is (as they mentioned) very exhausting to run, since you have to so precise and reactive at times.

imma echo dez and metrick's advice some but i also think you should definitely focus more on having fun. for example i would stream runs and being on stream instantly just makes me mildly more happy while doing runs. doing that instead of focusing purely on time makes speedrunning in general much more fun

The update is explicitly said to be post game content and looking a what Twitter has shown off there is a lot of post content.

It seems most logical to create a “200%” category that adds the post stuff to the run. And anything that gets added to the front side of the game is just going to make the run longer.

Looking at hollow knight they had their 106% and 112% categories limited to specific versions and it would probably make the most sense for us to do something similar.

6 followers is doable for opening the doors and golden fleece, since you can do a follower dupe in temple :^)

Fun fact i learned while running: In Anura 2 Heket will appear alongside Kalamar and Shamara and demand the lamb to bow. This only happens if Leshy has been killed, otherwise Heket appears alone and summon enemies for the lamb to fight.

Axe does still decent damage and can be animation cancelled reasonably well, sometimes inconsistent. Sword is alright damage but pretty good speed, animation cancelling isn't too helpful here but does a little. Hammer is super slow but great dps, if you can slow your playstyle down to fit then it can be good (especially if you don't have any/many golden fleece stacks). Dagger is worst dps but best speed (a bit of a caviat to this however as the final attack in the combo has a super slow wind up), animation cancelling doesn't do a whole lot but it can hinder you if you accidentally animation cancel repeatedly into the final super slow attack of the combo.

Take with this what you will lmao, everyone's opinions will differ, but personally mine is gauntlet -> axe -> sword -> hammer -> dagger

The only thing I find annoying with the axe is that if i am essentially inside an enemy and swing it just won't hit anything

I notice it the worst on the shamura fight due to such a large model and hit box

Helob needs to be meet 4 times over the course of 100%. We do 20 crusades and he can’t show up in 4 of then. So we need to find him in 4 of 16 crusades.

That on its own isn’t too bad but you also have to see fornues, ratsalka, and ratoo. 7 out of 16. It becomes a major time loss if you have to reset crusades after a combat room to change nodes.

@daring tartan some very important things for attempting 100%

1. sozo’s quest line requires 67 mushrooms in total. some farm land must be built to grow mushrooms and they take several days.
2. all area blueprint and follower forms can be bought in shops. The danger come from the general blueprint and followers theres a total of 13 general blueprint not unlocked in the shrine. There are 3 general followers that must be found on crusades (unicorn, red panda, and pangolin) they will only appear after all followers form for an area are acquired.
3. devotion is the hurdle of the run every thing that can help boost devotion generation should be done. That includes constantly trying to level followers during most of the run. The exception is ritual of enrichment (Possessions 3 doctrine) its too broken
4. the run requires at least 40 gold bars and 5 stone block. Refinement tables need to be built to prepare these in advance
5. as mentioned earlier helob must be met 4 times over the entire run, as well as fourneus, ratsalka, and ratoo (he only sells his tarot card after beating heket). You do not want to run out of required crusades and then need to go back for them.

The update will likely create its own categories. The route itself should remain larger unchanged. The Major Glitches were patched on 1.1 so it will just be the NMG route that carries over.

Too much has been added to the game to allow 100% runs to be compared. You either do 1.1 and older or 1.2 and newer.

Darkwood 2.0: the postgame version of darkwood, that appears after beating ||Narinder||

If you go into the green portal at the end, instead of returning to the cult, it continues the crusade
