I work a lot so it’s unrealistic to get a run during the week. Im a big MtG player and play 12-5 on Sunday which doesn’t give me enough time for the 7 hour 100% run.

If you play new patch it gives you the bones to prevent a softlock. Not sure about old. Regardless, so long as you lot the boss check I think it gives enough bones.

I’ve found that if dialogue queues up an animation then skipping it has weird consequences. Maybe the convo idle animation is playing when you leave and that’s causing it? No idea otherwise. I’d try slowing down a tad and see if a particular sequence is breaking it.

A similar vein of dialogue skipping, whenever one of the heretics shows up and makes you do the animation where you stare at the sky while your eyes bleed, if you manage to finish the dialogue before you reach the spot you will play out the whole animation anyway and lose like 5 seconds. You can even be attacked if they summon enemies during this time.

when you have text animations enabled in settings it basically can't happen, but if you have it disabled and absolutely mash through the dialogue right before the cutscene then the game doesn't load the room properly and stone doesn't break visually and softlock

having text animations makes each dialogue box need 2 button presses, 1 to skip scrolling animation and 1 to advance. without animations they load instantly and you only need 1 press. it probably saves only like 30 seconds in a 1h run (i assume, random number idk), but it's also much more relaxing for your button mashing finger lol

In my experience, it’s finishing the dialogue before reaching the conversation point. You can use this in base to good use on NMG.

If the conversation queues up an animation though (like when talking to bishops) it can cause issues.

Finally ran a run in which I was on old patch. Despite having some of the worst RNG I've ever seen (impressively bad level gen, not enough shrooms or rare fish for fleece, made a mistake and missed lvl 4 weapons) I still managed to keep ahead of my record pace.

Usually I blow him aside, so I was really surprised

first time I got dagger and worst possible map gen (I even recalled to re-roll and still got no paths with less than 2 dungeons between me and the boss) and took a ton of damage. That one was entirely my fault. Second time I got axe but managed to take damage to the very last enemy before him, so I fought with no damage boons and found out I don't actually know how to fight Kallamar 😅

technically you dont have to kill the run if you do this

just make sure to turn off the autosplitter reset checkbox, save during the softlock, go to menu, enter back

definitely loses time but is salvagable

if this is allowed in NMG I can see it being used to finish A2 a little faster. That way you have time to get both foxes before the end of the night.

Well, it is a sequence break, same as og follower dupe. We just didn't know what caused it. I'd personally put this to major glitch category, since it is functionally same glitch as follower dupe, if not just being a follower dupe but done in a different place

Ill have to have 12 followers after 7 crusades. Ive been setting up the mind control ritual before AD2 when kalamar makes 5 followers sick and SC3 when you have to kill two followers. Its also a decent place to try getting the poop follower form since again no faith lose.

Hello, could I please get some help with a bug I'm experiencing when speed running this game?
I was able to play the game and do regular attempts 2 patches ago, but since the last two patches the game will crash / stay a black screen when I enter the room after Ratau in the tutorial.

Has anyone else experienced this? Now when I uninstall / reinstall I still get the crash. I know the game is going to break when I hit the rocks to leave the first screen and the rocks don't do the break animation and the rocks are still there.

Livesplit is running, the game is in windowed mode 1080
I'm recording with OBS Studio. Thanks so much! I really like this game and the route is really fun and challenging. Thanks much ❤️

Here's a video that shows how to avoid the tutorial dialogue bug. Might be useful to folks, as before today I didn't know that that was what was crashing my game. Thanks again @knotty tusk !

TLDR; if you spam through The One Who Waits' dialogue in the beginning too quickly, then the room after Ratau will crash the game during the tutorial. just slow down and let the text load to avoid this.

They said in the panel that a lot of the time they can just work on something and add it in without really telling anyone else and it's a bit of a suprise for the others to find so I wouldn't be shocked if there was a lot of those small things like that in the code

White fleece stops him from spawning. I think it actually cost more time because it makes way more dead ends combat room that you have to fight through. Technically the card rooms do show up occasionally but he isn’t there to give you one.

Interesting if a card room shows up when selecting you path he will be there and you can get an extra card.

Having looked through all the tarot cards. Only 6 are really good for saving time and like half aren’t useful at all. Im going to keep doing a bit more digging and look at when the card unlocks.

The attack speed and raw damage cards are really nice. I used to get tarrots cause I needed the extra healing for speedrunning at the time.

The default set does contain the raw damage and attack speed boons. Those ones can be really, really good when you get them. It’s just not consistent enough.

My advice, if you’re new to speedrunning the game then take the trot cards. They compensate for the difficulty caused by wearing fleece, and that allows you to learn the run better until eventually fleece is all you need.

Tons of healing too.

(I also take IV weapons cause it helps dagger and sword ramp up much, much faster)

My pattern (NMG) is

Mandatory First Sermon
Sermon with first Ritual, preferably after recruiting followers for Anura
Sermon with Fleece

This gets IV weapons with the same trip, which saves time, and usually gets it early on the third day
