Accept that the game have steep learning curve, run eco-builds as you try learning the ropes.
Cheap guns are also very solid weapons in this game, so you ain't at a complete disadvantage and shotgun like the Romero is really good to learn compounds and the flow of a fight :)

Dying over and over as you learn is part of the game, but some general tips that are good for any situation:
-Enemies can hear EVERYTHING you do. Anything that makes noise for you makes noise for them
-Move as fast as possible and as quiet as necessary. Once a fight starts, you don't need to be crouchwalking unless you know you're getting the drop on someone
-Watch yourself for tunnel vision, which leads to feeling like you have to take a fight head on until one party wins, or repeeking an angle to get another shot. I still struggle with this one. Repositioning is important

being too passive early on leads to building bad habits and not learning important lessons imho.
i'd rather would recommed to play very aggressive early on and get more balanced later on once you got a better grasp of the game.

Adding to cat's advice, don't crouchwalk for example (Except in some situations), but rather walk or sprint, that's usually the better way to peak corners for example and you'll become less afraid of pushing enemies/less reliant on suprising them

Oh yeah, you hear someone shooting 4-5 shotgun shots in the span of 3 seconds while you have scoped rifle and dingy pistol, don't try to fight them on their terms.
