yeah, the issue with medieval techniques is the, manuscripts suck, because they didn't know how to write good books back then and how to teach people through a book. so all we have today are basically text which were mainly intended as "memory aids" for students who got a proper practical instruction. and HEMA is reconstructing the whole system from this sparse information.
that's one of the reasons why i prefer saber over longsword because the more "modern" manuscripts are way better and are actually suited to give full written instructions to learn from, over medieval manuscripts.

oh god yeah, the quality of sword fights has severely degraded in the last few decades.
and if you have any idea about actual sword fighting most modern fencing scene become insufferable to watch.
tho, i unlocked the skill that i can now appreciate fighting scenes in very old movies. for example, the fencing scenes in 40s, 50s, 60s movies are really high quality. for example the fencing scenes in the 1940s "The Mark of Zorro" just as one example.
along with how they had better fencing scenes my appreciation for those old movies and how they used to tell stories grew as well. Really enjoy how they assume the viewer has more than 2 brain cells back then

Yes and no. I have it pretty severe, so it's less 'annoying and they creep me out' and more 'I have a panic attack and can't breathe.

When they're smaller, like the size of a dog or something, or overly cartoony, they usually don't bother me. But when they're huge, it's terrifying. I love how Hogwarts Legacy did their arachnophobia mode, as there's multiple levels of it.
Grounded also did a good job on there's, and there's also terrify me.

the weapon that fires crossbow bolts is awkward to use and not easy to use. particularly at the ranges you're talking about. Most shotguns rock paper scissors it in CQC too.
