Recovery Mode (not to be confused with DFU Mode) is a mode which allows a device to be reflashed to a fresh install of iOS. You can optionally either keep your data and update to a newer version or restore and start over with a fresh install.

To restore in Recovery Mode:

• Enter Recovery Mode
• Connect your device to your PC/Mac and open iTunes/Finder
• A prompt should appear which says “A device has been connected in recovery mode.” Either select “Restore” or “Update”

NOTE: If you use this method you can only restore/updated to a signed version of iOS.

Hi I need help with my IPhone 7. The network signal stopped working and mistakenly I factory reset the phone. Afterwards it entered “unable to activate iPhone “ mode. The only thing I can do is to shut it down. I tried jailbreak and now I was able to bypass the baseband to my Home Screen. However, if the phone goes off it returns back to the “Software updated” and then “unable to activate”. Is there a way to permanently fix this and to use wifi with the phone?

In case anyone wants to know: the issue was apparently caused by the latest version of Substitute. Once I downgraded to the previous version, I was able to re-jailbreak without incident.

On one of my attempted re-jailbreaks and subsequent reboots, I found apps like Cydia were still working (but no tweaks), apparently through fiddling with the settings in Unc0ver – that's how I was able to downgrade in the first place.
