you do need to unfortunately. redsn0w is 32-bit, iTunes has been 64-bit only for a while now. and the 32-bit iTunes installer refuses to run on 64-bit Windows

if you need to open iTunes, you can go into your Music folder and rename iTunes to something else. then it won't complain that your iTunes library is too new. when you upgrade back, you can delete the iTunes folder it creates and rename the old one back
