Hi everyone. iPhone X on iOS 11.4

Having issues installing apps from Jailbreaks.app after the device rebooted, specifically unc0ver, but none of the apps will install.

After pressing "Get", a grey app square shows on the Springboard that says "Waiting…" then it changes to "Installing…" about 20 seconds later but the install animation stalls at around 75%, then a pop up appears saying that it can't be installed at this time with the options "Done" and "Retry". Retrying multiple times doesn't appear to help.

Haven't modified anything on the system between the last time unc0ver was successfully installed and the time before that when it was also successful. Haven't added/removed/changed any tweaks.

Currently not able to try side-loading with a computer.

Tried logging out of and back into the Apple account on the device.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I'm having issues seeing tweak settings appear in the Settings app. I did some googling and people said this could be fixed by installing Rocketbootstrap, but I don't see it in rpetrich's repo within Sileo for some reason.

Anyone dealt with this before in the past and remember how to fix it?

Ending up resolving this by unjailbreaking, restoring rootfs, and reinstalling. Then I was able to find the rocketbootstrap package in the default sources, and I added Preferred instead of PreferenceLoader.

IIRC When I rejailbroke for the first time earlier this morning when I was having the issues, I didn't have the default repos (havoc, odyssey, procursus).

I restored rootfs and tried again. Although this time it wasn't letting me download any package due to some issue with apt or some shit I forgot.

I opted to use the patched Chimera version this time, restored rootfs again and re-jailbroke. That time Sileo had a problem installing one package when I tried to upgrade all, but it finally let me upgrade it manually, and then after doing my jailbreak functioned normally - albeit I'm having an issue uninstalling a manually installed tweak Time to get mterminal

Wrote this out in case anyone else has this issue in 5-10 years tldr use patched Chimera and restore rootfs 1-2 times

PAC/PPL bypasses

Back in iOS 14 and below, you could jailbreak with just a kernel exploit. However, in iOS 15, Apple introduced new mitigations that meant for A12+ devices, you need more than one exploit for a jailbreak.

Kernel exploit
A kernel exploit allows you to read and write to kernel memory. On A11 and below, this is enough to become root, unsandbox yourself, and have a full jailbreak. On A12+ (for reasons mentioned further down) since iOS 15, a kernel exploit only gives you limited abilities. Examples include temporarily overwriting system files and partially unsandboxing yourself (e.g. for installing TrollStore).

PPL bypass
PPL (page protection layer) is a system that ensures that you can’t write to important data structures with just kernel memory read and write. In iOS 15.2, Apple put the ucred structure behind PPL, which stores information about a process’s privilege level, sandbox and entitlements. Thus, you need a PPL bypass in order to have a jailbreak, as you need to be able to unsandbox yourself and gain root privileges.

PAC bypass
PAC (pointer authentication code) is a system in which pointers (which are ‘addresses’ to areas of memory) are cryptographically signed, meaning that you can’t manually overwrite pointer values because the system can tell if a pointer has been tampered with. Its job is to ensure that everything is executed in the order that it was intended to be, and that an attacker can’t arbitrarily call a function in the kernel for their advantage. With a PAC bypass, you can get around this requirement, and can (for example) call an arbitrary kernel function (also known as the ability to kcall). While a PAC bypass is not required, a lot of PPL bypasses require kcall to be exploited, and thus need a PAC bypass.

SPTM/TXM
With the release of iOS 17, PPL was completely replaced on A15+ devices, as well as on M4 iPads. SPTM (secure page table monitor) and TXM (trusted execution monitor) are two new components which, together, provide a stronger replacement for PPL. SPTM will most likely require a bypass for jailbreaks, and for TXM it’s currently unclear as to whether this needs a bypass. It’s important to note that A12-A14 and M1/M2 devices still have PPL in iOS 17, however, M2 has SPTM in iOS 18.

It’s important to note that both PAC and PPL were introduced in A12, hence why A11 and below require just a kernel exploit to jailbreak.

I tried reinstalling it, and even Downgrading to other versions of Mitsuha and it did nothing. I got that iPad Mini, two iCloud Locked iPad 2s, and an iPhone 3G which was working but didn’t vibrate for under $35. The Mini other than having a weak battery also had a broken home button, and the charger when plugged in wiggled way more than usual, but it still charged.

The issue isn't SSL related. The issue is because saurik's server now redirects a few (important) files to a random site. The important ones for a Pangu jailbreak to update are:

• dpkg_1.18.10-12_iphoneos-arm.deb
• pam_32.1-4_iphoneos-arm.deb
• shell-cmds_118-7_iphoneos-arm.deb
  Best you can do if you want updated packages is to manually download the second-latest versions of the affected files and install them manually with dpkg (Filza does this automatically if you try opening the files).

For anyone encountering error SSL -9836 when trying to update Cydia packages for the first time after an iPhone 4 jailbreak. Do the following:

1. Individually upgrade every package you can (don't try to bulk upgrade everything)
2. Download Filza from Cydia
3. Download these files in Safari and open them with Filza

The links for some upgrade files that Cydia tries to use, now redirect to a random webpage, which is what causes SSL -9836 for only some packages in this case. The file links I posted here are the same up-to-date files that Cydia needs, and are just hosted on a different (publically unindexed) section of Saurik's servers.

I emailed Saurik about the issue a few days back, no response, issue persists. So idk if the issue will be addressed anytime soon, thus posting this here for others looking for a solution now or in the future.

Wish I would've known about that site before. It took me a decent amount of time to track down the updated Cydia files I needed. But for an iPhone 4 jailbreak to work with this, you'd also need to delete /var/lib/apt/lists/apt.saurik.com* (if pre-Cydia Installer update) or /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.saurik.Cydia/lists/apt.saurik.com* (if post-Cydia Installer update). Then add 127.0.0.1 apt.saurik.com to /etc/hosts to prevent the Saurik repo from being re-added when Cydia is loaded.

Idk if it's the iPhone 4, Pangu, older Cydia versions, or what. But this version of Cydia has a blocking feature to prevent any matching package names from being accessible in secondary repositories (ex. if apt7-lib exists in apt.saurik.com, then it will not appear in any other added repos). And since you cannot remove Saurik's repo on this version of Cydia either, you have to work around that.

This was a major point of testing for me upon setting up my own local backup repo once this Saurik issue started happening.

It's not even versions. It's package names. I could have version 0.7.25.3-16 available in my own repo, while 0.7.25.3-15 is installed, and it's still blank. Because this version of Cydia blocks by package name. The identifier in Packages.bz2 that says Package: apt7-lib

in order for the cydate packages to show up, control version has to be bumped up to higher than the cydia/saurik copy, like 0.7.25.3-17

I stand corrected. You're right. Version does prioritize it higher. Although because the package manifests of apt.saurik.com and invoxiplaygames are identical, saurik's packages will still always take priority, and continue to error out, even if you manually edit priorities in /etc/apt/sources.list.d. As every time Cydia is loaded it regenerates the core files (that it almost definitely shouldn't, not when valid and existing). It's just the way this version of Cydia's built.

Ive been using legacy ios kit just fine these past few days and today I tried downgrading my 5s to other iOS 12 firmwares with the blobs I have saved. It comes up with this error. I cant even restore to 10.3.3 no more because of this error even using the 10.3.3 ota blob legacy ios kit retrieves for me.

Legacy iOS Kit can also restore the device and pre-jailbreak it. I used it to restore my iPod touch 3 to the latest OS and everything was good to go out of the box.

the procedure for resetting your password is basically to mount your filesystem inside a live environment and chroot into it as root so you can use passwd to change it, bypassing the old one.
