Hello. So every time I try and open OBS it automatically tells me something about extentions or along those lines and asks me to either run it in Safe mode or Normal mode. Safe mode wipes out all of my scenes. When I run it on Normal mode it acts like its open but the menu icon up topis greyed out so I can't choose "show" I right click on the icon in the dock and it's acting like it was never opened. No prompt to okay or cancel it's just caught in limbo. I have to restart the computer for it to return to normal. I have deleted and re-downloaded OBS and same issues occur.

Set the mic mode to standard. By default the system treats capture card audio like a mic and applies noise suppression that messes up the sound.

That means you set the mic source to be monitored. It needs to be "monitor off". You are supposed to monitor the capture card audio.

Something is likely broken with your mic, it sounds as though it is a hardware issue.

For the monent, mute your mic. Change your video encoder in Settings > Output for both recording and streaming to the Apple Hardware H264 one.

Then do a new recording, and send the log after. Tell me if you hear the capture card

I'm definitely hoping to have it figured out ASAP. I'll look forward to any additional help. Also, just for additional info, I was under the impression that it might be peakinh to the point of no audio but it doesn't appear to be the case. I dropped the volume on the Elgato app and on the OBS app but no difference either way. Oddly enough when I play the game, the commentary is audible on the recording but just not the engine sound for some reason.

Hiya, how do I create a display capture of my 14inch mac book pro? I see I have 16x9 aspect ratio selected in my settings but my screen is 16x10. So the bottom portion of the screen is not getting captured. Any suggestions?

Hi! I’ve been having an issue with OBS on my mac where it’ll randomly stop capturing a screen recording or audio recording. This doesn’t happen with media. I get no errors when it does it but I can see the purple ‘watching’ icon of the app window click off or the audio go out when watching via OBS. Im not recording, I’m streaming and have roughly 4GB free on my laptop and 250GB free on an external drive. It will progressively lag out my computer after 2hrs causing games to be unplayable due to input lag.

OBS does not have any issue recording with only 2GB or less free; the issue is with macOS itself, the underlying system that makes macOS screen capture work

there isn't anything OBS can do about macOS screen capture freezing with low disk space; you just have to free up more

as for how much you need, it's not really clear and apple doesn't say; i would advise 2x the amount of RAM you have though as a ballpark figure

Hi, I’m having an issue with screen capture freezing in OBS.

Mac mini M1 (2020), OBS 32.0.4.

When I use macOS Screen Capture, the preview freezes after ~30–60 seconds if nothing moves on screen. It stays on the last frame until I restart the capture or move something.

This happens even when not recording.

I use OBS on my MBP to stream my home pool room setup, but I also use my MBP for other things when not playing pool. Everytime I go to start recording again, I have to reestablish the sources and basically start over from scratch.

Does this all come down to me not closing OBS properly and then establishing the connections before opening OBS or is this just a problem that always happens when you have a laptop going in and out of service and unplugging and plugging things back in?

Setup is one Logitech Brio webcam and one Canon mirrorless with HDMI wireless transmitter on a tripod, HDMI receiver goes to Elgato camlink 4k.

That does not happen to me, fyi. So something is amiss

My sources are disconnected most of the time. I quit OBS if I accidentally left it running, after reconnecting. I use a usb c hub for my sources. Elgato 4K X, Pulse Elite headset and a OBSBOT Meet 2 webcam. Also I take audio from Discord for VC - I do find if I leave OBS up and quit discord, then if later I start discord while OBS is still running then I do not get audio from Discord. I have to quit and relaunch OBS to get that to work again.

I used to use a no-name webcam and that worked fine too

im trying to record minecraft, but when i record, i can visibly see on my second monitor that it is lagging, maybe 10fps, and then when i view the final video, the video is even laggier (i counted 4 seconds from the sound of a menu change to it actually changing)

minecraft itself runs fine, and i have had no issues in the past when recording on a worse (but windows) pc.

i am using window capture as the other options do not show minecraft at all (my last first attempt at a video ended up in 20 hours of footage of obs)

Record to FLV or MKV. If you record to MP4 and the recording is interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards by selecting File > Remux Recordings in the main OBS Studio window.

Hi guys, random one but I recently started streaming and set obs up and was having no issue until randomly 1 day when connecting my external camera it stopped showing my camera and only background image as you'll see in the screen recording I have attached. Even after deleting that image it still does it instead of the video source. I have tried the camera on other things like zoom etc and it has no issues so it isn't a camera issue. It is now also starting to the do the same thing with my webcam except this time it still shows me but my background has now been replaced with the background image. I have tried reinstalling and all the obvious things but the issue persists any ideas?

hello!! I'm a tad confused I use a Mac 12 and I'm trying to record footage for a video

but Everytime I record it only lets me do one unless the other is impacted

and not only that but if I record my audio it can't hear people in Roblox VC chat even tho I could hear them while recording

Double check the steps, I am pretty sure at least one of them allows you to hear what gets routed to the VB cable. Since you can't hear the computer audio, I think that's what's wrong.

Docks in OBS can be managed from the Docks menu in the main OBS window.

You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing, as well as add custom browser-based docks here.

Hi I’m playing a video from YouTube on my Mac and I can hear the sound through the speakers. However, the audio level bars don’t move, and when I record the screen the recorded video has no sound.
It seems the audio from that YouTube page isn’t being captured by the recorder.

• Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
• Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
• Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording

Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.

Hey OBS fam, I was wondering if someone might be able to help me. I am a new OBS user and I have followed all instructions to set up streaming. The video works fine but there is no sound. When I was selecting 'Audio Output Capture' the device would just say 'disabled' and I was not able to select any audio options from the dropdown menu, so after doing some research I downloaded Blackhole. Now it comes up with 'default or Blackhole' as the Output options. I have downloaded Blackhole 16ch and set up the 'Multi Output' functions as instructed. I have then selected Blackhole as my Audio Output Capture and selected 'monitor and output' in settings. I can see this has been added into the Audio Mixer field correctly however, the little green bars are not moving when I speak. They **do ** however move if I play music via my computer... but shouldn't they also be moving when I speak? Because for some reason, there is just no sound to be heard by my viewers on my live stream. For refrence, I have no mic attached, I am simply using my Mac speakers, and those green lights are moving as they should so the mic is working. Maybe I am confusing something here... are the Audio Output Capture green lights supposed to move when detecting my voice? Could there be another step I have missed that's causing no sound on my viewer's end, on my live stream? Apologies in advance as I'm not particularly tech savvy but this is incredibly frustrating for me as just can't seem to find a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for getting back. I am using the in built mic on my mac, no other mic attached. I think I might be confusing what the Audio Output Capture is actually for... is that for capturing my voice so my followers can hear me, or is that just for capturing audio such as if i wanted to add music to my stream etc? For audio that you capture from the Mac itself, use the guide I linked above. For the mic, use an Audio Input Capture source.

And you will probably want to uninstall Blackhole, just adds extra complications.

Don't have monitor and output turned on, that can actually cancel out some audio.

Just the audio input. You can make a short recording to test instead of going live, that should be the same.

I have, what I hope is a quick question.

I've gone through a number of troubleshooting steps. Have even uninstalled and reinstalled OBS hoping to get this to work.

I was hoping to use the Browser source to capture some footage from an MLS game as I do analysis on a local podcast for it. I know the footage can be used under fair use without it being copyrighted.

The issue is that I get an "error has occurred" message that I have not encountered in the past. I am working on Mac and wonder if there is some Mac specific DRM thing at play here? A friend of mine is able to do this without issue on his pc.

Hello, I was hoping to get some help with my audio interface. Its a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and I am running the latest Tahoe MacOS on a 2020 M1 Mac Mini.

I can't target a specific input. When I select the Scarlett as a source it picks up both the microphone on input 1 and the system output. Am I missing something? The only way I've been able to isolate it is through GarageBand.

I'm not sure but I think the Windows version of OBS can target specific inputs. Is there anyway to get OBS to isolate input 1 on the Scarlett the same way GarageBand does?

If not, can this be a feature request?

How do I do a complete un-install of OBS? Every time I delete it and the re-install, all of my scenes and profiles are still there. I am still trouble shooting my virtual camera not working after upgrading to Tahoe 23.6.1 and part of that process is touninstall OBS, but I am not sure if all the files are getting removed to strart over from scratch.

Why does the "monitoring device" not give me the audio coming out of OBS? I want to be able to hear what it sounds like in order to check levels. For example I cature the sound from Discord and from the Music app. I can change the levels with the sliders and visuall see the effect, but the volume I hear in my headset is not affected by those level sliders. Is there a way to actually hear the audio coming out of OBS? In Audio, Advanced, I have my headset set as the monitoring device.

i don't know what could be causing this crash. one thing worth trying would be completely removing all of OBS's data and starting from scratch. i'll type up some steps to do that

1. close OBS
2. in Finder, press Command-Shift-G
3. copy and paste exactly the following into the box that appears, then press enter:
   ~/Library/Application Support/
4. scroll down to the obs-studio folder, and drag it to the Trash

then try opening OBS and adding a source once more

I had some troubles yesterday running a livestream on MacOS 15.7.4 with OBS 32.1.0: I had several crashes (3 in almost 1h45 session, all happening during a 1h livestream). I used several Window captures in my scenes and, randomly (at least I couldn't identify a pattern in terms of actions or duration), I noticed a freeze on the capture: OBS was working (I could navigate in the interfaces or change a scene) but the captures were frozen, the sound capture as well. When I tried to change the audio source (from the "application" to the "desktop" audio), it led to a complete crash of OBS.
I noticed this error on the logs: [ mac-screencapture ]: Stream stopped with error -3805 each time the capture froze.
I didn't find much online. ChatGPT told me that it's a "common" behaviour since the latest versions of macOS and that I should stop using "Window capture" and replace it with a "macOS Screen Capture". Is this information accurate? I was surprised because I used those captures several times this week to record some videos (but it was only a few-minute videos, not a 1-hour+ livestream).

i would try to uncheck "use preset", and see if you can find a manually-selected input format on the card that will give you results

typically this is caused by low disk space on your primary drive; freeing up more will usually alleviate (though not totally solve) the macOS screen capture freezing issue

this is expected behavior, macOS interrupts the capture on sleep, it's not something OBS does

OBS trying to automatically restart it without asking creates a consent issue, because the capture can also be stopped by the user via macOS itself, and there is no way to effectively differentiate a capture that stopped intentionally versus on sleep

assuming you left the default "untitled" profile as is, you open that "basic.ini" in notepad++ or what have you, hit CTRL+F and make sure there's no "fps=30" anywhere in there, if I'm not mistaken.

and if you find any "fps=30" change them to 60 and save the file from notepad, close and reopen OBS and see if it fixes it, if not you can revert the changes in that file.

dropped frames like this don't come from FPS being "set" to 30 somewhere. The obs FPS settings is absolute and controls the FPS of the produced video no matter what.
Those come from frames being duplicated because of encoding overload/render lag

Wonder what is causing the lag and making it drop/duplicate roughly every other frame... makes sense though since the exported file properties still say 60fps, the metadata is being applied faithfully but the encoder isn't performing as expected.

To record framerates higher than 60fps, you will need very powerful hardware (SSD, high-end GPU, significant CPU overhead, fast RAM) in order to accomplish it. There are no simple instructions that will make it work. It is recommended that you stay at or under 120fps when using OBS, and we may be unable to provide support for higher framerates if your hardware cannot handle it. Be prepared for hours of trial and error on your own.

That isnt a Duplicate, its a Reference

A pure "Duplicate" is a new, unique, independent source from the one it was duped from.

While a Reference is a copy of the Original that represents the Original. Any changes to the Original are also reflected on the Reference, because they are the same.

Not all sources support Duplicates, but all should support References

Your meaning to use the virtual camera in OBS?

And choosing 30 FPS for OBS would help but you probably want 60 FPS. So you would have to lower your GPU encoder settings slightly, not very much though. That's a small amount of lag so.
