Our first beta release of OBS Studio 28 is now live, and we need your help testing!

This is going to be an enormous release, including:

  • HDR support
  • Apple Silicon support
  • UI framework updated to Qt 6
  • Integrated obs-websocket 5.0
  • Updated AMD encoder implementation
  • Support for ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 12.5+ and improvements to the Apple VT encoder
  • Application-specific audio capture
  • Integrated NVIDIA Background Removal and updated noise suppression
  • Ability to automatically split recordings by time or file size
  • New default theme, Yami
  • Much, much more!

As you can tell, this release is going to be a big one, and because of that, we need as much help with testing as we can get! For details on how to get the beta and how to give us your feedback, see the #1004146447991709816 channel, or visit the forum thread here: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-28-0-beta.158248/

We are aware that a large number of scambots have been sending DMs to members of our community. As always, never trust anyone sending you a random link with no context. Make sure you report these users to Discord using the "Report Spam" button in the DM, as we cannot report DMs ourselves. It is not possible for us to moderate them directly as we cannot verify the messages firsthand.
We also strongly recommend that you disable DMs from people not on your friends list in large public servers. You can find this setting by right clicking the server icon, and going to "Privacy Settings".

As an update, this appears to be related to a larger AWS outage (where parts of Twitch that are affected are hosted): https://health.aws.amazon.com/health/status

If you are tracking the issue, this is probably the closest to the source for updates.

We are aware of an issue preventing users from streaming to YouTube from OBS with a connected YouTube account. For now, you are still able to stream by disconnecting your YouTube account from OBS and using your YouTube stream key. This should resolve when the daily quota is reset at 12am PT.

OBS Studio 28.1 is now out!

This release adds support for NVENC AV1 on @NVIDIA 40-series GPUs, new NVENC presets, outputting individual sources to the virtual camera, and fixes for several bugs and crashes.

Release notes & download:
https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/28.1.1

With NVENC AV1 on the new NVIDIA 40-series GPUs, recordings can take significantly less bitrate for the same quality.

We also now support NVENC Presets P1 through P7, replacing the previous performance / quality / latency presets. These scale from P1 being the most performant, but lowest quality, to P7 being the highest quality, but at a performance cost.

Be advised that we have seen an issue with OBS freezing when trying to add or edit a Video Capture Device on Windows, with NVIDIA driver 526.47. This is unrelated to the update. If you run into this, please consider rolling back your NVIDIA driver.

We are aware of an issue with Twitch Authentication affecting macOS clients, which are being a shown a "Your browser is not currently supported." error message. There is not currently a workaround (but direct stream key without auth should work fine), but we will update with more information as soon as we have any. As far as we know, this is an issue on Twitch's end, and not OBS. We will update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience!

@everyone OBS Studio v21.1 has been released and is now available through the updater. This is a minor update that includes an updated version of the Chromium Embedded Framework for obs-browser (including APNG support), expanded functionality for nesting docked panels/windows, and several bug fixes and improvements. Note that this update is larger than normal and may take longer to download through the updater. You can always download the full version at the link below.

Hey @everyone ! OBS Studio 21.1.2 has been released. This fixes an issue with game capture performance on the new Windows 10 April Update (1803), as well as an issue with the auto-updater not functioning correctly. Unfortunately, due to the issue with the auto-updater, it will require a manual download/install. It is safe to install over your previous installation.

Additionally, our code signing certificate has been updated. If your webcam mysteriously stops working with the new update and you use anti-virus software, please make sure to whitelist OBS in your anti-virus software to solve the issue.

Hey @everyone -- there's a new version of OBS Studio just about ready, but we need help testing it. If you're willing, you can get 22.0-rc1 and/or view the changelog here:
https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/22.0.0-rc1

The two most important things we need tested are:

  • The browser source is the most critical thing we need tested, and is the primary reason why we have a release candidate build right now. We need testing on as many computers as possible, but laptops are particularly important to test. To explain the changes: for years, the browser source had to render exclusively with software due to limitations in chromium itself when used for off-screen surfaces (which is how we paint a browser as a source). The browser source now uses much less resources: CPU usage has been significantly reduced, GPU usage has been significantly reduced, and RAM usage has been reduced. In addition, the browser source has been almost entirely rewritten to accommodate all the new and upcoming features we're planning. However, we need to give it some good testing to make sure it works well for everyone. If the browser source does not work properly, please let us know in #478438992971563008.

  • We've added source grouping, and would like to see it tested. You can add a group by selecting multiple items, right clicking, and using "group selected items". Groups can be referenced or duplicated in other scenes as well. You can drag items in and out of groups (though note it will affect other scenes that reference the same group), or to safely ungroup a group within the current scene without affecting other scenes that group is in, you can right-click the group and go to "ungroup".

If you have any issues with 22.0-rc1 that you did not have with 21.1.2, please report them in #478438992971563008.

#

@everyone -- We're just about ready to release 22.0, but we're going to release one more release candidate build: 22.0-rc2. For those of you who tested Release Candidate 1 and had issues, please confirm whether your issues with 22.0-rc1 were fixed in 22.0-rc2. Or, if you haven't tested yet and would be willing to spare some time to help, we would love for you to do so and confirm if everything's working okay or not. Again, the most important things to be tested are the browser source (especially stream alerts, and especially on laptops) as well as the new source grouping feature.

Please use #478438992971563008 to report any issues/problems, as well as confirm if everything is working great. Thank you so much to all of you who are willing to help!

Hey everyone! In support of Spirit Day, the OBS Project is displaying a purple logo for our Discord. What is Spirit Day, and what does this mean?

Spirit Day is a means of speaking out against LGBTQ bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. Pledging to "go purple" on Spirit Day is a way for everyone — forward-thinking companies, global leaders, respected celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends — to visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ youth and to take part in the largest, most visible anti-bullying campaign in the world.

By sporting purple, the OBS Project team shows our support for equality and acceptance.

We're gearing up for the release of OBS Studio v24.0, which means it's time for another round of testing the release candidate! This release brings some long-requested features:

  • Controllable browser source audio - Adjust volume, apply filters, and control monitoring
  • Custom browser panels - Create new browser panels for any web URL and attach them to the OBS interface (Under Tools > Docks)
  • Dynamic bitrate - OBS can detect if your network conditions degrade, and instead of dropping frames, you can tell OBS automatically reduce your bitrate until network conditions improve (Under Settings > Advanced > Network)
  • Hardware decoding for media sources fixed - Use your GPU to reduce the processing load of video playback

The newest release of OBS Studio, v24.0.3, includes a fix on Windows that may alleviate framerate issues caused by 95%+ GPU utilization. You must run OBS as administrator to enable this fix. We'd appreciate any testing and feedback you can provide here: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-24-0-3-gpu-priority-fix-testing.111669/

We're investigating ways to make this fix available without the need to run as admin, as running as admin may affect hotkey usage and file drag+drop functionality. Also note that this may result in a small reduction in performance of any games or other graphics applications running at the same time.

Our server appears to be experiencing a bot raid whereby bots are joining the server and sending DMs containing advertisements to as many members as they can. Unfortunately there is not a lot we can do, but you can disable DMs from people that share this server with you by going to OBS Community -> Privacy Settings -> Turn off "Allow direct messages from server members"

In the meantime, we have temporarily increased the verification level of the server to High to help cut down on the amount of spam they are sending.

If one of these bots messaged you, the best course of action would be to report the user by following the instructions at this link: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000291932-How-to-Properly-Report-Issues-to-Trust-Safety

I purged almost all the bots from that raid. Still, if you get DMs from anyone that are clearly advertisements, make sure to report them to Discord (see above) blobcatban

@everyone OBS Studio 26.1 is now out! This minor release adds virtual camera functionality to both macOS and Linux, matching the version introduced on Windows in version 26.0. It also includes a new feature for Twitch broadcasters, allowing you to send a second audio track with your livestream that gets saved to your VOD instead of the audio that is streamed. We’ve also updated several of our underlying dependencies which brings a myriad of bug fixes. Notably, we’ve updated Qt, our UI framework, which fixes a variety of issues including accessibility bugs and strange behavior on high-DPI displays.

Read the full patch notes here: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/26.1.0

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you use the obs-websocket plugin or the StreamFX plugin, please ensure that you have the most up-to-date version of those plugins, or else OBS may not start after this update due to the Qt upgrade. Also, if you use the Decklink plugin, be sure that you have updated to version 11.6+ of Blackmagic Desktop Video.

We've had some questions asking if the new Twitch VOD-only audio track feature in OBS Studio 26.1 can protect you from DMCA takedowns if you livestream copyrighted audio without a proper license. The answer is no. Even if the VOD excludes the audio, the broadcast itself is still subject to copyright claims. The feature is useful when you want the audio in your VOD to be different from your livestream, but it does not circumvent copyright restrictions on the content you broadcast if you only exclude the copyrighted content from the VOD.

This impacts the OBS Twitch integrations, so please be patient until Twitch can sort things out on their end. There's nothing wrong with OBS or your computer.

Hey everyone, the server's moderation level is currently increased due to a wave of bot spam.

If you are here for support, you will need to stay in the server for 10 minutes before you can speak. This is a temporary measure, but apologies for the inconvenience!

Edit: We've now lifted this restriction

OBS Studio v27.1 is almost ready, and you can now help us test it! A release candidate is available for download -- please give it a try and let us know if you run into any issues.

The primary focus of this release will be the newly added YouTube integration, which was developed with the assistance of YouTube! Additionally, there are some nice quality of life updates, including the ability to draw safe areas on the preview, and a "Mask Only" option for stinger transitions. As always, there are plenty of bug fixes and tweaks, which you can view in the full notes below.

Server permissions have been changed temporarily to combat a spam wave

Update: Back to normal

peak dawn
#

Hey everyone! In an effort to combat the increasing amount of scam accounts that are sweeping across discord (notably the Discord Nitro and CS:GO scams), we are making some changes to our moderation automation. As part of this, we will now be kicking the bots as soon as they are detected, instead of just deleting messages.

We are making every effort to not have false positives, but in the very rare chance that you get kicked for sending a message, please note that this is just a kick, and you are welcome to re-join. There will be another announcement if/when we decide to change the kick to a ban.

As a reminder, any kicks or bans may be appealed by following our Code of Conduct (https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/blob/master/COC.rst) and sending an email to coc@obsproject.com for the moderation team to review. Thanks!

@everyone OBS Studio 27.1 is now out! This minor release adds YouTube integration, which lets you connect to your YouTube account to set up your streams, manage events, schedule events, and more! There is a new Manage Broadcast button next to the normal Start Streaming button in the controls dock once connected.

In addition, Multiview now has an 18-scene option, a new "Mask Only" option was added to stinger track matte, browser sources can control parts of OBS, and you can now add safe areas to the preview. As always, there were dozens of tweaks, performance improvements, and bug fixes, which you can view in the full patch notes.

We're aware of the Windows Display Capture issue showing colors washed out. In the meantime, you can either manually set the Capture Method to Windows 10, or use a different capture source. We are actively investigating the cause and should hopefully have a fix shortly. The update has been temporarily paused on Windows. Thank you for your patience!

The fix it out! Updates have now resumed. Thank you for your patience and quick reporting of the issues!

We are aware there seems to be a large influx of bots DMing users on our server. Please make sure you are using the "Report Spam" button and submitting it to Discord, so that proper action can be taken against these malicious accounts. We are monitoring the situation as best we can and taking action where we can. As always, we encourage users to be mindful of DMs they receive, especially on very large public servers as there is only so much we can do when the interactions are taking place outside our server itself.

Twitch users: Twitch is conducting a temp shutdown of the v5 API (will be restored today at 12pm PT). OBS Studio 27.2 RC is updated to use the new API. You can use the 27.2 RC, or use a stream key directly, or wait for service to be restored.

We expect OBS Studio 27.2 to be fully released well before the full shutdown takes effect. Thank you for your patience.

Reminder, Twitch Users: Be sure to update to 27.2.1 by the end of February!

Hey everyone! Please be careful when you're downloading OBS - there are fake versions being linked in Google Ads that contain malware. The OBS team never runs Google Ads so never click any ads claiming to be OBS - only download from our official site, obsproject.com, or the Steam Store.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT! ⚠️ There are ads on Google that link to a fake version of OBS with malware. Only download OBS from our official site, https://t.co/Z9F2dM5HFM, and never click any ads claiming to be OBS.

Hi @everyone! We are looking to learn more about how you use OBS! As OBS Studio does not collect any telemetry, we're reliant on your direct feedback. To do this, we'll be performing a series of user studies starting with a general survey.

This survey and any additional information we collect is incredibly helpful and is entirely optional.

If you are interested in participating please visit https://obsproject.com/survey OBSHeart

Hey folks, In our ongoing efforts to combat a recent wave of targeted spam, we're temporarily increasing the security level to require a verified phone number for accounts. We expect this might affect some of you in the short term, and want to inform you that this is only a temporary measure. Thanks for your patience!

We are aware that a large number of scambots have been sending DMs to members of our community. As always, never trust anyone sending you a random link with no context. Make sure you report these users to Discord using the "Report Spam" button in the DM, as we cannot report DMs ourselves. We are removing them as best as we can, but since DMs happen completely outside the server, it is impossible for us to be able to moderate them directly.

#

We also strongly recommend that you disable DMs from people not on your friends list in large public servers. You can find this setting by right clicking the server icon, and going to "Privacy Settings"
