Good Morning Everyone, I'm migrating from PC to Mac and decided to transfer the full obs-studio file from the PC to the application support in Mac and now it won't open. I've looked everywhere but can't seem to fix it. I uninstalled/restarted multiple times. moved the obs-studio folder to desktop on mac and still getting the failed to open user.ini -1 & failed to initilize global config. Any tips or help removing it entirely from teh mac to start fresh I don't care about saving anything from the pc settings anymore

I'm trying to record my webcam on a MacBook Pro 2020 M1, 8gb ram. A file that was meant to be an hour and half, came out to be 50 mins, and barely playable...

Very sad... I was also using the default quicktime screen recorder at the same time, hoping I could then edit it as needed in post... but now I'll just need to end up ditching the facecam. (And to top it all off i had the mic set to macbook pro mic, and not usb mic on the screen recording, so it will also be worse audio). But aint no way im redoing an hour and a half of content. Hey guys, I have been running into an issue on OBS on Mac where it makes OBS impossible to use. Basically every time I try to record or stream, my OBS output freezes eventually in a little while. This is visible within the application. The app is still functional but the scene freezes and audio stops working and I have no idea how to fix this. I’m running the latest version of OBS on a MacBook Air M2, 2022 with 8gb of ram and running macOS Sequoia 15.5.

Does anyone have experience with this particular issue and possibly know a cause or fix? I would greatly appreciate it!

i've been running into this very elusive bug of sorts for years at this point.. basically, when i have OBS running in the background, either recording or with replay buffer on, it will eventually freeze on one frame and only record/capture that one frame from the point of the freeze to forever unless the application is restarted

this is especially a problem when i have OBS on my second display to monitor it and make sure this exact problem doesn't happen, yet i feel it makes it happen more frequently!! i don't have solid evidence but i suspect it has something to do with macOS deprioritizing apps if they're not actively being used and it affecting screen capture in some way

A question on upsizing and mixing sizes . I'm a Mac user so I'm asking this here.
Can I be feeding an HD input into OBS and having it upsized while it's recording to 4K size? This would not be for live streaming. This would be for recording to disc. plus at times mixing in some real 4k video into it.
I shoot most everything in 4k but I have the Blackmagic chroma key system that is only HD It works fantastic . So live videos of me being green screened would be coming out of the device as HD but everything else I would be working with would be 4k shot for playing back different clips and so on and I size images that I'm going to use in videos to a 4k size as well . So my recorded OBS output would need to be 4K.

!new From what the website says, it is added to your stream using a browser source. It's a source you add in OBS and then paste the URL from what they give you after you sign up on SSBot site.

So the other day I downloaded OBS, then when I tried to enter streamkey the program crashed and ever since when I try to reopen it I get a error message saying that OBS wasn't shut down properly and asks to run it either safe mode or normal mode. No matter which one I choose it doesn't open and I get a message saying that it wasn't able to be opened then I get the same error message again. Attached is the most recently crash log, and tbh I have no idea what any of it means

Also I have deleted OBS and redownloaded it multiple times to see if that would fix the issue but I get the same error message

Key interval put to 1. And b-frames is pretty much useless when it comes to Mac’s. Leave it unchecked. Not sure if that will sort your specific problem, but it will definitely help your recording in general. Settings I use.

I have a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 model 157320. Hauppauge had a deal with HDPVRCapture.app so that the app would recognize each Hauppauge device through registration of the device's serial number. There's nothing unusual about that. The problem is that the device must "phone home" each time the app (HDPVRCapture.app) is launched so it get its authorization, and it can't do that because the author of the app has closed it's "home" site. Because I already have the authorization cached, my use of the app doesn't depend on "phoning home". However launching the app normally causes it to crash, because failure to phone home is fatal. As I said, I don't depend on phoning home, so the way I have to launch HDPVRCapture.app is to disable network connections, launch, then reenable the network. The HD PVR 2 is connected through USB. Do any of you know if there is a way to create an audio source that receives the USB signal from the HD PVR 2 USB connection in OBS so that I don't have to use the defunct HDPVRCapture.app? I don't need video input, I have a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Recorder 3G to handle that, and OBS handles that quite robustly, but I can't make the multichannel audio work. If you can help me make multichannel audio work from the BlackMagic, then I can forget the Hauppauge. So it's either get the BlackMagic multichannel audio to work, or get the Hauppauge audio input to work without HDPVRCapture.app. Thanks.

Hey all, I'm trying to capture a dvd and digitize it. My only dvd player is my PS5. I am creating a movie for my dad's funeral and need to transfer a DVD to a digital file. I intially thought it would be easy to simply plug the PS5 HDMI cable into my laptop via my Thunderbolt 3 mini dock, choose it as my video capture device in OBS and be on my way. However, that is not the case. I tried installing PS Remote play, but it can only do games, not dvds.

OBS doesn't have a direct account connection option for TikTok. If they have given you a stream key, you can put the URL and key in Settings > Stream with "custom"

If not, use the OBS virtual camera in TikTok Live Studio to stream with it instead

Cool, it worked this time. I see the mic/aux device is set for the PreSonus:AudioBox USB, and there are no effects or filters being applied in OBS. So whatever is making the audio weird is before the sound gets to OBS. We've ruled out the mic mode, so it's likely something in the mixer itself.

I have been having this issue all week:

Basically what has been happening is after the update last week, my OBS disconnected my twitch account. every time I try to connect it again, the application completely quits. I have basically tried everything the internet says to do:

1: looking for the plugins folder to delete it(I do not have any plugins so I don’t have that folder.

2: Deleting the OBS-studio folder in the library and deleting/reinstalling OBS

3: Deleting and re-installing OBS.

4: waiting a week to see if it will fix itself

5: Restarting my Mac.

6: Checking to make sure my MAC is updated (it is)

7: Making sure OBS is updated. (It is)

8: Running the application in “safe mode”

I have been able to stream with just the stream key, but it does not show the chat or stream title settings. Trying to add a browser source also doesn’t work, so whenever I try to add elements like follower/sub alerts that also doesn’t work. I was wondering if any of you had some advice. I really would like to access these features in my streams. Thanks!

I'm having a serious issue with OBS that I just can't seem to fix.

The problem:
Every time I switch scenes in OBS, some sources – like the webcam or audio – suddenly freeze. They stay frozen (image or sound stuck) for about 6–7 seconds, then resume briefly and freeze again.
It happens randomly, but often, and it's really frustrating during live streams.

What I’ve already tried:

I initially thought it might be related to a previous crash, so I completely uninstalled OBS, deleted all config files, and set it up from scratch as if it were a first-time install.
I created 3 very simple scenes, only with essential sources.
OBS is updated to the latest version available.
Unfortunately, the problem still occurs.
The only way to “fix” it is to close and reopen OBS, which obviously isn’t a viable option during a stream.

My setup:

Computer: Mac Mini M1 – 16 GB RAM
macOS: Sequoia 15.5 (latest version)
CPU usage in OBS: about 5.5% (a low CPU load because I'm using a PS5 via Elgato capture card)
Has anyone experienced this issue or knows what might be causing it?
Are there any specific settings I should check on Mac or known workarounds for M1?

I wanted to share a frustrating issue I ran into while setting up OBS on my Mac, and how I finally solved it. At first, I was convinced it was a webcam conflict… but I was wrong. Here's what really happened.

What I thought at first
While setting up different scenes in OBS, I noticed that every time I switched scenes, the new one would freeze, frames would drop, and everything would lag—including other connected devices.
My first guess? It had to be the webcam. Or maybe my GPU was choking under the load.

But after hours of testing, I realized: what I suspected wasn’t the real issue at all.

The real culprit: audio monitoring with wireless USB headphones
Turns out, the problem was with audio monitoring set to my Logitech wireless headphones, which are connected via a USB receiver.

Here’s exactly what happens:

• If I use the headphones just to listen, OBS works fine.
• But if I enable audio monitoring (Monitor & Output) to those wireless headphones, then as soon as I switch scenes and come back… everything collapses:
• Massive frame drops
• Lag across all input/output devices
• OBS itself starts stuttering badly (though it doesn’t crash)
  This seems to be a conflict between OBS, macOS, and USB wireless audio devices used as live monitoring outputs.

Temporary fix
Here’s the workaround I’m using to recover when it happens:

1. Switch to a scene without any audio monitoring enabled.
2. Go into OBS Audio Settings and disable audio monitoring.
3. Open the Stats panel and click “Reset”.
After that, performance is back to normal—no lag, no dropped frames.

Extra testing
I also tested this:

• With wired headphones (standard 3.5mm jack), there are no issues at all, in any setup.
• The problem seems to be specific to wireless USB headsets being used as monitored outputs.

Final thoughts
At first, I was sure it was a webcam/GPU problem—but it turned out to be an audio issue in disguise.
This bug only appears when using wireless USB headphones for monitoring audio inside OBS scenes.
I don’t know whether the fault lies with OBS, macOS, or the headset drivers—but if you're experiencing random lag and stuttering, check your audio monitoring settings first.

Hope this helps someone save time and frustration!

Hi! So, I disable it in two places:
1. In your audio source that you added to your scene. Select it, then on the right side in the mixer window, click the gear icon. A window will open with a list of your active audio sources. On the right, in the dropdown menu, click “Disable.”
2. Also in the AUDIO settings.
On the right, click SETTINGS – then in the menu on the left, click AUDIO – on the right, scroll down until you find “ADVANCED.”
Here, you can tell OBS WHERE you want to hear your monitoring. Open the dropdown menu and select “Default.”

Normally, you’d want to enable it to hear the audio… but in this case, it seems there are issues with the USB Wi-Fi connection of your headphones.
So for now, it’s better to use wired headphones.

i'm getting a weird effect - the Google Chrome and Ghostty windows - when set to "Resize to Source" - capture the whole screen, which is much bigger than the windows.

However, VSCode (when i click on resize to source) works fine.

This isn't THAT big a deal, but it means i have to manually resize those outputs in OBS in order to fit the canvas. What's going on? Can i fix this?

Hi, I’m from Germany and have a strange issue with OBS on macOS (M3 Max, OBS 31.0.0):

I recorded a 3-hour session, but later the file was replaced with a short, vertical video that I did not record intentionally.
One day later, the file changed again and suddenly showed a size of 200 GB.
No plugins, no cloud sync, no external access that I know of.

Has anyone experienced something like this?

I no longer have any OBS log files – not in the log folder and not in the Trash.
The only thing I still have is the video file itself.

As shown in the file info:
• I started recording at 11:55 AM
• But the file was last modified at 4:29 PM
• I did not modify the file myself

So, at some point the file was clearly changed – possibly replaced or altered, and then reverted back.
I no longer have the version that was briefly shown during the replacement – only the current one.

Is there any way I can still investigate what happened?
Any hidden logs, macOS system tools or timeline data I could check?

An OBS recording (about 3 hours long) was replaced with a short, vertical video that I never created.
That replacement video looked edited and was from my own system.

Hey, I remember asking this in this chat before but can’t find the answer anymore. But when I run my stream for some reason only my game audio sounds very choppy. The rest of my audio sources sound amazing on stream. Docks in OBS can be managed from the Docks menu in the main OBS window.

You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing, as well as add custom browser-based docks here.

Yes. There are no known issues running it at this time, but obviously the amount of testers is very small, so this is very much on your own risk. Compiling does not work without further modifications to Qt and our CEF build.

I'm experiencing many bug with the latest version 31.0.3 on my Mac M2 on macOS 15.5 Sequoia.

Most of all, I get an error everytime I close the app, and it asks me if I want to launch normally or on safe mode every time I launch it.
I don't know if it is because I recently upgraded my OS.

I use OBS to stream live, using a Loupedeck CT.
The only way so far to connect the deck with OBS si to uninstall and reinstall the OBS plugin in the Loupedeck app.
I thought I found the solution with this open source plugin, but it only works for Windows users :

I hope those 2 apps will soon release an upgrade to make it work efficiently.

From the screenshot you can see the Preview looks fine; however, the Program is shifted to the right cutting off what's on the left hand side of the screen. Any suggestions?

There's a dock you can open in OBS Docks menu called Twitch Stats that shows viewer count

If you only have one screen that probably won't work and the phone is a better method

You cannot use 4k resolution like that then. Since Twitch's limit is 1080. If you have enough upload bandwidth to multistream with a plugin, there are several and I am pretty sure they can all send different bitrates and resolutions to different sites

oh, i see it's the same macbook i have. as far as i can say, it should make 80-100fps encoding power in 1080p, when using hardware encoding. You choose the x264 software encoder, that fully runs on the cpu, not the gpu. try the hardware encoder in OBS streaming settings.
