Open stream in browser, pause stream for how many seconds you want delay, but play again. Stream will stay delayed by that amount.
I do know Twitch tries to catch you up by very slightly speeding up the stream but I think that only activates if you're a tiny bit behind
I don't think stream delay is visible in the OBS preview, either. I could be wrong on that front, though.
Our church uses OBS to run Facebook live, but in the last 3 weeks the audio won’t go through the sound board any ideas as to why?
yeah its just that I want to be able to see whats happening 12 seconds after as in the game i play i need to see it live after and in vods its way behind or to review after im done streaming
Is there maybe any other method to have delay, such as a browser delay i can add in chrome or anything else?
#audio-support is probably a better place for this sort of query, and you'll also need to provide some more details about your setup, i.e. what's connected to what, where the audio is supposed to be coming from and going, and what role OBS is supposed to play
i don't know. as dada suggested, pausing and playing the stream while live might be sufficient for what you want
if you want greater access to what you're streaming than that, you'll need to actually stream from your computer using OBS, rather than your xbox. what you're asking really is not an OBS question
I was able to fix it now with an anlternate twitch extension in chrome that allows to add delay, thank you for the help if i ever use obs in the future
Ok when arrive home I will let know

Are you using a VPN?
yes
Thank you!
I updated mac os to sonoma 14.2 and now my canon web cam utility wont come up in OBS. Any one else find a fix for this?
Hey could anyone help me? i am having some trouble with seeing my gaming console on OBS im also using a Nzxt HD60 capture card, i have all the cables connected the right way i triple checked everything on OBS, even changed some settings on my mac but its still showing me a black screen
Has anyone updated to the newest version of obs? I’m worried if I do their will be issues
no major issues have been reported, best to know is to try, you can always revert
Is it possible to use a custom font for youtube live chat over transparency? Currently I'm only able to get it looking like the pop-up window.
most widgets can be customized with CSS yeah
shows up in obs but it's black screen?
is there a dedicated chat box widget or is browser > chat URL with CSS the way to go?
the best would be a dedicated widget
Yes
is it connected to usb hub or directly to the pc?
also sometimes you can get it to work just by modifying the settings, since OBS will let you set resolution/fps/etc that doesn't work, you might need to toy with it to get the right settings that show an image
So I have everything working but for whatever reason CSS isn't adjusting font size eg font-size: 26px and font-size: 66px, no difference . Any suggestions
yo im having some problems with obs, im trying to use an external gpu to run it as it helps with the quality of recording and streaming cause it can handle more but when i try use it nothing shows up on the display screen but i can still record and i assume stream it just doesnt show up on display so i cant see anything so i cant edit stuff or see how it looks which is really annoying although it does seem like i can still interact with the sources just i cant see them which is really weird, anyone know whats going on or how to fix? thanks!
this is what it looks like with my external gpu turned on and without it on (black screen is normal i just dont have any footage running atm
It's been a while since I fixed this, but have you right clicked OBS, selected "Get Info" and checked the box that says "Prefers External GPU" or something like that?
OBS' eGPU support is half baked, and Apple themselves have deprecated support with M-series Macs, so there's some quirks.
(The gist is that OBS is expecting itself to be ran on a display connected to the eGPU, and not on any internal or system-connected display, so the output never gets sent back unless you tell OBS to run on an external GPU.)
Yeah that’s what I did
So how do I do this
Do you have a monitor connected to the eGPU?
Uhh it’s connected to my Mac mini which is connected to my monitor
Wait. Disable that, not enable it.
It seems that you have to render on the iGPU and encode on the eGPU.
👍
You can also follow this headache if you want to use the eGPU for rendering.
Sorry how do I do this?
If you uncheck "Prefers External GPU" then set your encoder to the eGPU in OBS settings, that's enough.
If you want to use the eGPU for everything:
- Set
OBS.appto "Prefer external GPU" - Set all
OBS Helper.apps inOBS.app/Contents/Frameworks/to "Prefer external GPU" - Open terminal, and run `
SafeEjectGPU gpuids [e/dGPU ID] LaunchOnGPU [path to OBS.app]`, replacing[e/dGPU ID]with the ID of the eGPU, and[path to OBS.app]with the path toOBS.app.
You'll have to do step 3 every time you launch OBS.
To get the GPU ID, run `SafeEjectGPU gpus` in terminal to list the GPUs connected and their IDs (look for gpuid ID_HERE - GPU NAME HERE) you want .
`SafeEjectGPU` lets you force applications onto eGPUs completely, even if they don't natively support it or only partially support it.
It is annoyingly technical, and the only person who was working on eGPU support, last I heard, no longer has an eGPU in service. I don't believe anything has changed in regards to this since I moved on to M2.
Just for expectation setting, external GPUs are effectively abandoned by Apple at this point, and are unsupported through OBS. They might work, but might also break at any moment. Probably need a lot of fussing and manual upkeep.
Sorry I’ve been fiddling around in obs and I can’t figure out how exactly to put my egpu as my encoder
I’m probs really dumb
If it's like it was when it was supported, it's still the same fussing/upkeep. Effectively, OBS's implementation was bugged and hardcoding everything to the first GPU macOS returns, which is always the iGPU on most systems.
The encoder selection had just been fixed when eGPU support was dropped. Renderer was never fixed. So the black screen happens when OBS is "running" on the eGPU, but the renderer is still running off another GPU.
The only two solutions are:
- Run OBS off the iGPU and encode only with the e/dGPU.
- Use the process outlined above to force all of OBS to run on the desired GPU, returning it first instead of the internal one.
Uh, sure I guess. Point being, it's neither supported by Apple, or us at this point. I won't say don't spend time trying, just level setting current expectations. The history of support and what was or was not working isn't really relevant here.
Settings ➜ Output. You might need to switch to advanced mode. On systems with multiple GPUs you should see two or more Apple VT Hardware listings. You might need to switch to advanced mode.
Yeah I did that should I click on the apple vt hardware?
There should be two or more.
There’s two of the same one
Yeah, they briefly fixed showing the GPU name and then it broke in an update. You kinda have to guess which one it is.
There should be 2 AppleVT Hardware, and one Apple VT Software, I think?
So one I assume is the egpu, what’s the other one?
yep
The built in GPU on the mac.
Ahh ok
You can test this by opening activity monitor. There is a way to show which GPU a process is using. I think you want to look at VTEncoderXPCService. Though I remember little beyond that. You basically start a recording, and check to see which GPU the VTEncoderXPCService created by OBS is running on.
Note that there might be multiples of that service running at any time, since other programs can spawn it. Make sure it's the one being used by OBS.
Hopefully it is the second GPU in the list, in OBS, though, to make it easier. Since macOS typically returns the iGPU first.
But there's no promises that the list is sorted the same each time.

Wishing you luck @sullen tinsel — eGPUs are cool, and I drove one for a couple years before upgrading to an Air M2. They are handy, but OBS' "support" (and lack thereof), let alone Apple's, is very limited.
I ended up doing this whole process and writing a shell script that launched OBS on my eGPU every time. Takes technical knowhow and comfort with the Terminal, but it got the best results.
im new here, trying to stream ps5 through a capture card to my mac, but im blackscreening on 'capture card device' and 'video capture device', 'macos screen capture' works, ive gone through settings, privacy/security, force quit, etc
Did you give OBS permission to use the camera?
working on it
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
Having issues starting a stream in obs using Facebook live. I copy the stream key and hit start streaming but get “Failed to connect to server”. Any suggestions
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
Most capture cards on Mac register as cameras, so you would add a Video Capture Device and select the capture card in the list, once permission is granted.
that did it
fyi ive been going back and forth between different settings, cords, etc
Make sure you gave it microphone permissions too to capture audio.
i gave it mic perms but now its capturing my macbook mic, when i want it to capture my headphone mic
select the headphone mic in settings > audio

which mic did you set mic/aux to?
👍
I'd first suggest updating obs
on a different note, ive got a playstation hd camera that i want to use on stream, not sure how to connect that, since its connected to ps5
Yeah I saw that after running the log file. Thabks
Yeah just did this and figured it out this way c: and I think it’s working??? Not too sure but I’ll figure that out when I decide to stream again, thanks for the help dood much appreciated 🙏
Good luck!
how can i connect a ps5 hd camera? i have no usb ports so im using usb to usbc adapters, i plug things in, and no new devices pop up
It depends on the device. If it registers as a generic PnP camera, it should "just work".
If it requires drivers you are likely SoL on Mac.
Mac is the sort of platform where things designed for it just work, no drivers needed, unlike Windows. But anything that Mac doesn't already have the drivers for becomes signifigantly more complicated to use.
ah
Looking it up, the PS5 uses a proprietary protocol with the camera, so yeah, it won't work.
Sorry.
Does anyone know how to have your gameplay showing fully with your overlay and webcam inside it with out the overlay and webcam getting blocked by the gameplay
is the webcam and overlay source below the gameplay source? if it is, raise the webcam and overlay source above the gameplay source
This is what I have so far
But you see how the webcam is hard to see
Do you know how to make it more visible and clear
what color mat is your keyboard sitting on?
Red white and grey
idk then, cause it looks to me like its sitting on something green/blue and getting rid of the background
when recording whats the "best" filetype? i would think its mp4 but im not sure
xvcxv
if you think a crash has any possibility of interrupting your session, fragmented mov, fragmented mp4, or mkv is best. other than that, just mp4 or mov is good.
i would not worry about crashes personally unless i had a fair amount of plugins installed and active
is software better than hardware for encoding like the encoder options
ive got MKPlayer on mac so that will do, and i can convert it later
thanks tho 😄
There shouldn't be any need to convert anything
Even if you use MKV, you can remux them to MP4. It's instant and has no quality loss, unlike conversion
Remuxing allows you to copy video and audio from one MKV/FLV to another video container format for use in players and editors that do not support MKV/FLV. This process is safe, lossless, and takes seconds.
To remux any recordings made with OBS Studio:
- In OBS Studio, click the File menu → Remux Recordings
- Click on the … (three dots) button, then select your MKV or FLV file
- Click on the Remux button
Is there a plugin available for adding a custom title to the file before recording it?
I've recently started streaming on my new mac (os sonoma, only because of the new audio setting in OBS). Used to put up with a misbehaving PC. I had followed a "How to stream on Mac" videos and everything was working fairly fine. But after installing 30.1.0 I had severe dropped frames spikes and massive stuttering for two weekends. I have since updated to 30.1.1 which didn't change anything initially. Did anyone else experience issues like this? (I have other issues that I would like to discuss, but one thing at a time).
Also, I did turn off Game Mode as it was making things even worse.
I just installed 30.1.2 but have to wait until Saturday to test it.
the best way to see what's going on would be to create a clean log while reproducing the issue:

I will check what happens this weekend. That's the only time I stream.

When I switch to a scene that uses Display Capture as the source my fans spin even when there is little to no activity.
I know this may be an easy fix but I haven't figured it out yet can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
display capture is deprecated. do you mean macOS screen capture?
Yes but the method is set to display capture
what sort of CPU/GPU% use do you see in activity monitor with this scene?
Available for a screen share? Just tried troubleshooting with a friend but couldnt resolve
I'll DM you
DMs and screensharing aren't allowed here. We have to keep support in these text channels for moderation purposes
hmm, understood... is there a more efficient way of managing something such as this? or do you have a resolve? I would like to use the program but not if display cap is going to burn my fans out
I don't know actually. But answering Yam's question may help
42% CPU // 55% GPU
that seems fairly normal, especially since the GPU is usually clocked pretty low. i suspect something else is responsible for your fans on full blast
can you take a full screenshot of activity monitor while the issue is happening?
overall load looks quite low. you say your fans are full blast? do you have some sort of 3rd party fan control application installed?
nope, that was my concern as well
I do have clean my mac and it reads that my computer is running at 177 degrees

i mean, you have a decent amount of stuff in here that will cause a fair amount of load on the GPU. 177 degrees is also high but not that high
i don't know why your fans would be at max speed. how exactly are you determining that in the first place?
it may literally just be you have some debris in your fan that makes them sound louder
you might want to get one of those stats applications that shows your actual fan speed and verify
This is from clean my mac
When you say a decent amount of stuff are you referring to my scenes and sources?
installed istat and this is the fan report
given what you've shown us, i don't know why your temperatures would be that high and i would suspect a fan issue, but i couldn't really tell you anything definitively beyond that
i don't see anything that would indicate a performance issue with display capture in particular, at laest
Hmm. I've tried every angle at this so I'm going to take my machine for an in store diagnostic but is there anything you can advise on regarding my scenes or setup? I am trying to run as light as possible
Hi gusy having a big issue, have been using obs for years, for the last few weeks i cant change the freamerate of any of my sources in obs here is a screen shot
huh?
ignore them they're a troll

got it fixed, for anyone that is dealing with this, use capture card device insted of video caupture. i dont know why this is, that is dumb it was never like this for the last four years
you just needed to scroll down on this screen actually, there were more invalid parameters below the fold that made the fps field not populate
which is dumb, you're correct. just not quite for the reasons you were thinking
isee...once agian, why is this NOW a thing! sometimes i cant stand thw software th;at pays my bills
thank you all for the help
Hi there! Really hoping someone can help me out since this crash has made my OBS unusable...
I'm getting the "OBS Did not shut down properly during your last session" notification - clicking the Run in safe mode or the Run normally both lead to the same result in the application crashing and throwing up a crash report 😮💨
could you post the most recent log as well? to do that:
- open Finder
- press Command-Shift-G or do Go->Go To Folder
- paste in the following and hit enter:
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/logs - drag the most recent file onto discord
The OBS log above though is the most recent crash that I attemped yesterday
Sorry if its not, I'm confused as to where I am meant to be going if not
that's literally why i posted explicit directions. please follow them!

@brave sphinx you may also want to check if downloading and using the apple silicon version of OBS resolves the crash. you're currently using the intel version https://obsproject.com/download
Download OBS Studio for Windows, Mac or Linux
I see! The video capture device I have been using is the Logitech C920 - I just unplugged it and tried to re-open resulting in the same issue
I haven't tried to install the silicon version though, so I will go ahead and try that now
I just uninstalled the intel verson and downloaded the silicon verson with the same issues 😢

oh sorry, yep I'll go find that

A crash log is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash log.
- Open Console.app (Located in

- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.

thank you
I tried opening in safe mode and in the normal mode - that report is safe mode opening but I can find the normal report too if you need that
would you be able to post your scene collection in here? to do that:
- open Finder
- press Command-Shift-G or do Go->Go To Folder
- paste in the following and hit enter:
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes - drag the .json file for your scene collection onto here
thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it
for the time being, if you remove that Untitled.json file, as well as the Untitled.json.bak file, that will resolve the crash
oh really? So I just delete them from my computer?
yeah, or just drag them out of that folder
ok, I'll try that now
i'm able to reproduce the crash with your scene. this means most likely there's a bug in the mac-avcapture code
It worked! You are amazing 🙌
thanks for the debug information, with that we'll be able to get the bug looked at and fixed
No worries, if it happens in the future should I just look for the .json files and repeat the process of deleting them?
yeah. it shouldn't happen though. if you know exactly what you do to make the issue occur that might be useful
the answer is somewhere in this scene file but unclear what exactly it is yet
How it happened was - I started OBS as per usual, webcam already plugged in and it prompted an update. I clicked update. After update it reconfigured my webcam from what its usual state was of taking up all of the screen into only taking up a quarter of the screen and leaving the rest black. After that I dragged it back to take up the entire screen again, wen't to use it as per usual and it was very zoomed in (obviously because I had now fiddled around with reconfiguring the screen) - I went back to re-drag it back down to size and the application crashed - after that it was an endless loop of not being able to open it with the "OBS did not shut down properly" prompt
hopefully that kind of helps! It definitely started the whole chain off with downloading the update
This also helped me get rid of the crash, thank you very much 🙌
@forest axle Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it! 🙌
Hello, I'm kind of at my wits end right now.
I use OBS to record my Xbox Series X with my Elgato HD60s+ for making YouTube videos, it has worked just fine for months. I used to use Game Capture HD but it started to not save recordings consistently so I would lose an entire recording. I decided to switch to OBS because it seems like everyone uses it and like I said, it worked fine but now it will not stay at 60fps and now will jump down to 58, 47, & 32fps all the time! I don't know why it's doing this. As I said, it's been fine for months. If I open stats it says "Frames missed due to rendering lag." A few months ago it would stay at 60fps and would not move ever!
I'm only recording 1920x1080 High Quality, Medium File Size. When I record my desktop it doesn't drop frames. When I switch to my capture card it immediately jumps down to 30fps and then will go back to 60fps and then just kind of goes all over the place... my recordings have turned into a PowerPoint presentation. I have uninstalled and reinstalled OBS and that did seem to fix the problem for about a month but now it's back.
I have plenty of hard drive space and I have a new 4T SSD external hard drive on the way.
I was thinking maybe it's the capture card itself but I have a new HD60 X that I plugged in to see if it would work and it too will not stay at 60fps.
(I don't use the HD60 X on my iMac because it does not support the audio for it.)
I've seen the CPU at 2% and then 32% and then 58%.
I don't know what the problem is, I'm not super tech savvy so any help would be appreciated.
I have a Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019 iMac with a 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

hey guys im streaming on my ps5, how do i get it to come through my macbook so i can see chat and stuff
If you're streaming on your PS5, you don't need OBS Studio
If you're streaming to Twitch, you use your Twitch Dashboard to see chat and so on (https://dashboard.twitch.tv)
How do i add music and stuff to the background then
Do you have a capture card?
Whats that
You need one to connect the PS5 to your Mac so that OBS Studio can capture the gameplay
The video signal has to go through OBS Studio in order for you to make any additions like backgrounds and music
OBS Studio doesn’t just magically add backgrounds and music to a stream already in progress from your console
I'm recording a video podcast for the first time using OBS, and have two questions, dear discord community! 1. How do I include audio file - music - at the beginning and end of the video podcast? 2. (bit trickier) I am using a lot of images, and have set these up as individual scenes. When I have completed each episode of the video podcast, do I just delete these and start again, or is there a way of saving individual sessions, and reloading them later? Thanks all!
if you are not going live then the easiest thing to use is a video editor to create the content that you record in OBS....use like Capcut (free) to add the music and slides at beginning and end then after done and formatting, upload to where you want (youtube, etc)
Thank you - that sounds like the best way of doing it. Any ideas on the second question, how to save individual presentations? There doesn't seem to be a capability in OBS to work on different projects.
I’m streaming on twitch with 10 mbps upload and 250 mbps download. I have ethernet plugged in to both xbox and pc and still lag when I stream. My bitrate is at 3,000 and every thing I see on the internet says I should be able to stream. Can someone help?
the nearest thing to this is scene collections. you can play around with creating a new scene collection and see if that fits your needs
for part 2, you should record each session then hit stop recording, then start the next one. It will save these as video files per your settings. Then take each of those recordings and edit in Capcut (or whatever else you use for viseo editing).
Great, thanks very much for this advice.

I've been tasked with setting up the stream for a fishing tournament from scratch and I'm curious of the best way to pull in the live video from each angler. Gonna be 5-6 anglers out on their boats fishing at the same time, each one with a cell phone to capture video. How can I patch in the video/audio of them all in at once and switch between them? I've considered a plugin to connect to them all in a big skype call, and I've looked into VDO.Ninja a bit but that seems less reliable.
do you know why I lag using obs when I have high speed internet? 250 mbps download and 10 mbps upload using 3,000 bitrate on obs.
could be a better question for #tech-talk or #plugins-and-tools, i'm not sure what i would use for this myself
If your stream is disconnecting or OBS Studio reports dropped frames, follow our Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide for details on how to reduce these issues.
have you tried using a hardware encoder? rendering lag means that the machine is under too much load to render frames in time. putting the encoding work on a hardware encoder may reduce those issues
your setup looks fairly minimal, what else is running on your machine for these recordings? i expect some other very high workload application is making it difficult for OBS to do its rendering
thank you, will take my question there.

Hello all, im trying to stream on facebook, but i got the audio input from the mixer, but im using my iphone as the stream camera but im noticing the video keeps lagging, any idea how to fix?
hello guys!
Hello, i wanna do stream game from my m2 and my connection isnt perfect.Anyone can give some option advices?
anyone know why my xbox game lags but my stream runs fine?
left OBS running for 4 days over vacation and came back to this
Seems like your screen capture is larger than the canvas. Right-click the capture -> Transform menu -> Fit to screen
anybody know how to change the name of your stream from OBS?
For what streaming service?
this?
Yes
ok
thanks but do u also know y the recordings frames are so bad?
like everything is so pixelly
When you make the game full screen, it goes into quite a high resolution
Your OBS Studio canvas (OBS Settings -> Video) is much lower
So you have a choice — lower Minecraft's in-game resolution to be nearer to the canvas size, or increase the canvas size
If you increase the canvas size, you'll wind up with much larger files but crisper quality
Change the canvas resolution to match your monitor's resolution
Or actually
Before that
im on a macbook
Change your output resolution to match your canvas resolution
… so?
What MacBook do you have
pro
There are multiple models of MacBook Pro, be specific
Send me a screenshot of Apple menu -> About this Mac
Oh right those have a 16:10 resolution that looks like 1280x800
But it's actually 2560x1600
so do i set both the output res and base res to 2560x1600?
For crispest result, yeah

I updated to Sonoma and canon web cam utility isn’t showing up in obs anymore despite the camera coming up in the utility. Did anyone find a fix for this?
Hello, I am a COMPLETE NOVICE and am having difficulties finding information on how to use OBS on Zoom. I started the virtual camera on OBS, opened Zoom and found that the OBS virtual camera isn't option to switch to. I read somewhere that I need to download a OBS virtual camera plugin but when I search for one the links seem outdated and then they don't lead to the most up to date version. I have searched youtube and haven't found anything that is addressing the issue I'm having.
Is this a problem with settings in my OBS or Zoom?
I'm not sure where to start. Is there a thread I should explore, or a video that I can watch that will help me get OBS virtual camera on Zoom? Where do I start?
what version of macos and obs are you on
I am running OBS 30.1.2 and Zoom Workplace 6.0.0 on a macbook updated to macOS Monterey 12.7.4

Hello i am using a macbook air with an m2 chip

i am using my gpu as my encoder and have nothing else running except roblox, chrome for my stream and obs.
can someone help with this issue?
IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU SO MUUUUUUCH!!!😆
the issue with this is that canon has not updated their virtual camera functionality to work with sonoma. you'll have to bug them about it
it does work but it doesn’t come up on obs!
I see the camera in web cam utility
yes, that's because canon has not updated their utility
for the camera to appear in OBS, canon needs to update and fix their utility
It’s updated to work in Sonoma from what their website says
I can use it in other apps like discord too
Just the drop down menu in obs doesn’t show web utility anymore

let's see a log first
Should I have the camera plugged in and web utility up when I do this?

Hi all, I have a Macbook M2 Pro and stream on Twitch with a Logitech C920 but would like to upgrade from a webcam to a nicer camera. I can afford one but of course would like to spend the least for what I need. I have a simple stream with just piano and vocals and use just the one camera. Any advice on which kind of camera to use? Thanks!
may be a better question for something like #tech-talk or #stream-setup if you're just looking for a webcam recommendation
if you have an iphone, just using that camera with continuity camera and a mount may be a good option as well

hi guys so im working with a client currently with OBS and for some reason obs wont open and it shows start in safe mode or run normally when i run in safe mode it still crashes keep in mind this is a fresh install and ive tried deleting all previous installs heres the crash log
this is the last crashlog i had from the client before they had to leave
that's a known issue with the new video capture source. it will be fixed in a subsequent release. for the time being, the simplest way to resolve it will be to remove your scene file and start anew, unfortunately
where can i go to remove the scene profile obs wont even show in application support
the easiest way to do that is:
- open Finder
- press Command-Shift-G or do Go->Go To Folder
- paste in the following and hit enter:
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes - remove the .json and .json.bak files for your scene collection out of the folder
that worked
for some reason when i was trying to mannually find the scenes folder it didnt pop up
Did anyone find a solution to this weird thing in obs that gives you this black line in the recording
If you see black bars on your stream/recording, see the Aspect Ratio Guide for information on how to select the best aspect ratio for your content.
So there is still no final solution that solves it conpletelyß

Hey hey. I wonder if anyone can help. My OBS keeps crashing when I right click on something and pick something from the contextual menu. It especially doesn't like me deleting anything. I'm on version 30.1.2 and running on Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1
Hi all, I'm very new to OBS. I've set up a scene and image source for my virtual camera, but often when I click Start Virtual Camera I'll get an error message "Could not find virtual camera. Please try again"
The virtual camera has worked plenty of times before, this happens about 1/10 times I load up OBS. Restarting my computer resolves it, but if there's another way I can prevent this from happening to not have to restart all the time, that would be awesome! I'm on version 30.1.2 and Sonoma 14.4.1.
that should only happen immediately after updating OBS, and it's a macOS issue that OBS cannot do anything about, unfortunately. if you're seeing it at another time, then we can look into it further
also, you should not need to entirely reboot; logging out and in should resolve it
Hmm okay, still kind of a pain to log out and in again but less so than restarting! I hadn't noticed if it only happened after updates, but if I does I'll reach out I guess. Thanks!
Hey @forest axle, any idea whats happening with me?
I've just noticed a lot of my camera sources have been moved to video capture device legacy? What does this entail?
Can anyone explain to me why my videos keep coming out cropped like this? Won’t show full screen
Because the capture is larger than the canvas, which you can tell because you can’t see the entire red outline around it
You’re meant to resize the capture to fit
I thought i did do that
It’s like adding a gigantic image to a PowerPoint slide effectively, one that goes issue the boundary of the slide
It lined up etc
Lined up, but can you see the resize handle for the right edge or bottom edge?
Right click the video capture -> Transform menu -> Fit to screen
sickkkkk that fixed thank you!

can you help?
Remember that MacBooks have a much higher resolution than 1080p. Anything on a Mac screen reduced to 1080p is going to look worse than what’s on your screen
so what do i do?
are you saying your recordings look bad specifically on youtube or when you're playing them back locally on your machine as well?
both
then don't record at 1080p, record at your screen's native resolution, if that's what you want
but i do and it is bad
i don't know how to interpret that statement, you'll need to be more specific about why "it is bad"
Show us?
ok
Do you have a recording of a stream on there?
its on yt
if you uploaded something above 1080p to youtube, it wouldn't show as being 1080p. so what you're saying doesn't exactly make sense
Please send the video
my native resolution is 1710x1107
It’s actually higher than that
i've literally explained all of this to you before
Because all modern Macs have Retina displays, the actual resolution is twice that horizontally and twice that vertically
ok
It looks like 1710x1107, but it's really 3420x2214
we've both had this exact same conversation with you before
So 3420x2214 is naturally not going to look as good when reduced to 1920x1080 — that's almost half the size
so these are the right settings?
Those are the right settings for sending 3420x2214 video, sure. Are you sure that's what you want to send?
for my stream, i made the base and output to 1920x1080 for the stream so maybe that is the problem
So everything's working exactly as you've set it up
What about it
my roblox window
What about it
is way too small
It looks to me like the preview is too big
ik
Right-click on the preview -> Preview scaling -> Scale to Window
Like this
Much better
Correct. That's because the Roblox window isn't full screen
The black section accounts for your menu bar and Dock, which you aren't capturing
ok thanks
for my bitrate
with the m2 chip
whats a good one for streaming?
my is 9k rn
What service are you streaming to? YouTube, yeah?
For 1080p video at 60fps to YouTube, go for 18,000 kbps
There's a formula that gives you good estimation of the base line.
ok
this image
is the encoder options
which is the best
H.264 Hardware
why?
Because YouTube doesn't accept HEVC video and because you want to use the hardware encoder
these are my streaming settings now
ok
Wait, you're not rescaling your output according to that
oh i need to enable that?
like 20k?
You would need 48,000 kbps
do i change the rescale?
48k?!!!!
The higher the resolution, the more data it takes to transmit it efficiently
That was probably the problem you had before, your resolution was still really high and your bit rate was pitifully low
that sounds right
and one last question
do i change my rescale output or keep it off?
I have another question to ask, in order to answer that one
ok
Why do you have the output resolution so high to begin with? Are you recording video locally at the same time as streaming it?
no
idk tbh
i never rlly knew the right settings
oh the output
i just changed that
To?
it was 1920x1080 before
OK
so it should look nice now?
So what is it now
And the Video tab?
OK, looks fine
wdym
I'm not sure how else to answer your question
i have encoder option in the recording tab
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
Follow those instructions there, and don't forget to set the bit rate and encoder in the streaming section
Indistinguishable
ok
Lossless is for professional recording
Leave it
In the Recording section, set the recording format to fragmented MP4
bc i like to clip things
OK, what issue are you having?
ok ill test it

The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (30.0+) runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and higher on Intel and Apple Silicon.
Some features, such as the new macOS Screen Capture and macOS Audio Capture sources require macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
For versions of OBS Studio compatible with prior versions of macOS, see the macOS Versions page.
For 10.11, looks like you want OBS Studio 21.1.1
Why not just follow the link above

hi

also, obs said my encoder is overloaded
and the bottom is just blank black
Encoder overload, huh. Probably do need to reduce your output, then.
OBS Settings -> Video -> Output resolution to 2160x1476, streaming bit rate of 22000 kbps
Leave that
ok and for the preview scaling
i didn't
You should be using macOS Screen Capture if you want things to be smooth
ok
There's a reason Window Capture is located in a folder called "deprecated". That means "no longer to be used"
ok
Try macOS Screen Capture again, and if it's smoother, you could even try going back to the higher resolution and bit rate
Anyway, I'm off for a massage. See ya later
Hey. thanks for replying. Is it safe to post the crash report here?

How can I reduce lagging? I have an m2 MacBook, updated systems and apps, animated overlays and widgets, and I’m getting frame drops or cuts etc, I have my bitrate set to 5000, audio br to 160, hardware encoder, 1080p base to 720p output.
No 1 I'd say try not to change the output from your raw inputs, any reason you need to output to 720p?
thats default
does it take more processing to reduce output?
Typically yes, but also, most services you want to create video for would rather have 1080p anyway afaik
Everytime I run obs, it prompts me about missing NDI runtime. I'm not sure how to fix this situation. I don't think NDI works with my M1 MBP.
I am brand new to this and would like to ask someone for help with video capturing 8mm tapes using OBS. I have a video capture USB, and have followed the instructions from a basic introduction video on youtube, however I can't seem to get the video to play on my Mac.
The camcorder is a Sony CCD-TR640E and I am using a EasyCAP Video Grabber USB. OBS is recognising the video capture device, however when I press play on the camcorder, nothing shows on my Mac screen. Also, OBS doesn't seem to be picking up any audio from the camcorder.
what exact device do you have?
Camcorder is Sony CCD-TR640E, Video capture is the Climax Digital Video Grabber, here is a screenshot of it. My Mac is a 2020 Macbook Air.
I've downloaded the drivers for it already, so it should be working.
tbh it needing drivers is a bit of a red flag
does it work outside obs?
(like in quicktime player)
I've tried it in iMovie but the camera is too old to be recognised by it, the camera doesn't have a screen to playback the footage so I can't use the Sony PlayHome player either.
wdym the camera is too old
if you use a capture device like that, iMovie doesn't know what camera you're using
it's a handycam from the 90s, the camera isn't on the list of supported cameras. It isn't showing up anywhere when I try and import or play the footage, the device is showing on OBS but doesn't seem to be working there either. Apologies, I've never tried to do this with 8mm tapes before, and I don't know a lot about cameras so this is brand new to me.
oh I mean iMovie would only natively support digital cameras and 8mm is… not that
but try opening quicktime player and making a new movie recording
then selecting the capture device there
I'm getting the audio from the video when I select the OBS virtual camera and the ezcap audio device, but the video isn't showing up, it's just the OBS logo and a camera icon with a line through it.
when I select the usb device for both, it's just a black screen
do you have any other video sources that you could try with the capture device
tbh I think it's either not supporting the camera's output format (pal vs ntsc or secam) or it's just a dud
it not working outside obs at least means it's not an obs issue
i have a eoteck AV/s-video to hdmi convertor, would that work?
if you also have an hdmi capture card
it's also possible the camera's video output is broken btw
if not, I'll just have to get a new capture usb. are there any that OBS recommends? I'm UK based.
it works on the tv, using the HDMI convertor thing, so I know that the output does work, it just doesn't seem to be working on my laptop
ah I was about to suggest that
we don't have any specific suggestions (certainly not for old analog video), but I would suggest getting one that is UVC-compatible
but since you have an analog to HDMI converter that you know your camera works with, I would actually probably suggest getting an HDMI capture card instead
ok, thank you so much! I really appreciate the help 🙂
UVC means it's driverless btw
any UVC-compatible capture card will show up on your computer as if it were a USB webcam and work in any app that supports video input
sometimes manufacturers explicitly state UVC somewhere, sometimes they say "no drivers needed" or something to that effect
i'll have a look just now, thanks! 🙂
Hi there. I just upgraded my mac to the latest OS and now when i'm recording there is a bar at the top which shows the recording window icon. Any ideas how I can get rid of it without recording my entire screen. Apologies if its really obvious
you'll need to crop the source down to get rid of it. it's a macOS bug
I can easily do that for when the game is fullscreen - is there a way to do that for when the game is embedded in another scene?
when the game is embedded in another scene, is it fullscreen or in a standalone window?
Unsure of the question. Its set up as a window capture. See my preview
if you need it cropped both places, then just crop it in both scenes
How do I do that? My orange bars is a background image with the black background attached
the minecraft source within the left scene looks like a copy of the same macOS screen capture source
exit studio mode, then go to the stream paused scene, then select your minecraft source and crop the source the same way you would any other source
It is the same source. Its a window capture. What i did for the one that is full screen is I moved the entire thing up to crop it but i cant do that for the paused screen
right, so you can actually crop a source without just moving it off the canvas
there is an actual crop function
which is what i mean when i say crop
the simplest way to do that is to hold alt and drag an edge of a source
Ahh ok gotcha thanks. I assume this is a known bug with macos?
it's been reported, yes
ok, thanks for your help

i did everything you said
let me upload a video
i made one 30 second video
and when i went to my recording file
this happened
i got 4 individual files
and the resolution looks weird
Hey guys, if I record a video with my settings, the files are too big. For example is a 20 minutes recording 500 GB. That´s way to much, isn´t it?
that´s my settings. (sry, i only got it on german)
your files are very large because you're recording with the prores codec, which is effectively lossless
wich should I take?
generally, either hardware h264 or hardware hevc
if i take others, the quality is too bad

if you are trying to maximize space savings for the same quality, HEVC will perform better than h264
I did HEVC hardware, but it had a very bad quality.

can someone help me?
i did everything exactly as you said and quit medal.tv
all the settings are right
but i get 4 files from one recording
can you post an example clip or elaborate on what you mean by bad quality? generally with those settings it's not expected that you would see something that looked obviously bad
wait...
this...
does it have function in 4K too?
i'm not sure what you mean
whether you can record HEVC in 4K without issues depends on which mac you have
ok, the resolution is okay now, but it´s very laggy
my mac is a mac mini M2 Pro, 10-Core CPU, 16-Core GPU, 16-Core Neural Engine, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
my monitors are both 4K, 144 HZ, 1 ms reaction time

that lag could be for a few reasons. best way to go from here would be to see a clean log

idk why it makes two seperate videos on a mkv
Well, that seems to record pretty good to me
uh
but like if you look at this one
lemme send it
that video quality is really good
Also, I believe you have a hotkey set to start recording and stop recording. If it's the same key, then when you stop a recording, you instantly start another one
where do i see it?
OBS Settings -> Hotkeys
i don't
Is that your recording?
no, its a random persons
Why show me a random person's video, I'm not helping them, I'm helping you
And from what I saw in that recording, the recording was smooth
I just told you how
You just did a test recording
It's working just fine, smooth as butter
But I know what you're going to do
what?
You're going to turn Medal.tv back on, the recording will go disastrous, and you'll wonder what's wrong again 🙃
ok
How do I stop this?
I don't know
uh
Can you show me a screenshot in Finder of your two recordings?
Bad idea to make it just MP4
Record to FLV or MKV. If you record to MP4 and the recording is interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards by selecting File > Remux Recordings in the main OBS Studio window.
ok
Looks like you have auto-remuxing on
OBS Settings -> Advanced -> uncheck "Automatically remux to MP4"
ok
Then in OBS Settings -> Output -> Recording, try putting it back to Fragmented MP4. That should be fine
@soft lynx OK, restart OBS one more time, record some more of your gameplay of Roblox (at least 2 minutes), then send the log here. Maybe upload the video to Streamables, too.
Leave Roblox in windowed mode
Nowhere in that instruction did it say "Output"
ohhh
ok
its off
ok so
i will do a 2 minute video and upload the streamable link
imma close discord now
OK. Make sure to keep Roblox in windowed mode
- Non-Standard Aspect Ratio
- 0.3% Rendering Lag
- 0.2% Encoder Overload
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Apple M2 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M2 (not in benchmark DB)
done
uhh
when i try to upload it to streamable
it just shows the mkv
not the mkv and mp4
Yeah, now you can manually make the MP4 file
Remuxing allows you to copy video and audio from one MKV/FLV to another video container format for use in players and editors that do not support MKV/FLV. This process is safe, lossless, and takes seconds.
To remux any recordings made with OBS Studio:
- In OBS Studio, click the File menu → Remux Recordings
- Click on the … (three dots) button, then select your MKV or FLV file
- Click on the Remux button
(I'll repeat my instruction from earlier: go to OBS Settings -> Output -> Recording, change the format from MKV to Fragmented MP4)
Great, you should now have an MP4 to upload
Remember when I told you that the file sizes would be large if you use Indistiguishable, and you said you didn't care?
Sounds like you care now 😄
🤦 Already went through this
OBS Settings -> Output -> change Indistinguishable Quality to High Quality
You could also reduce your output resolution (OBS Settings -> Video) to something lower
