Open stream in browser, pause stream for how many seconds you want delay, but play again. Stream will stay delayed by that amount.

old mesa
#

I do know Twitch tries to catch you up by very slightly speeding up the stream but I think that only activates if you're a tiny bit behind

fierce rock
#

I don't think stream delay is visible in the OBS preview, either. I could be wrong on that front, though.

yeah its just that I want to be able to see whats happening 12 seconds after as in the game i play i need to see it live after and in vods its way behind or to review after im done streaming

#

Is there maybe any other method to have delay, such as a browser delay i can add in chrome or anything else?

forest axle
forest axle
#

if you want greater access to what you're streaming than that, you'll need to actually stream from your computer using OBS, rather than your xbox. what you're asking really is not an OBS question

#

I was able to fix it now with an anlternate twitch extension in chrome that allows to add delay, thank you for the help if i ever use obs in the future

yo im having some problems with obs, im trying to use an external gpu to run it as it helps with the quality of recording and streaming cause it can handle more but when i try use it nothing shows up on the display screen but i can still record and i assume stream it just doesnt show up on display so i cant see anything so i cant edit stuff or see how it looks which is really annoying although it does seem like i can still interact with the sources just i cant see them which is really weird, anyone know whats going on or how to fix? thanks!

#

this is what it looks like with my external gpu turned on and without it on (black screen is normal i just dont have any footage running atm

sage basin
#

OBS' eGPU support is half baked, and Apple themselves have deprecated support with M-series Macs, so there's some quirks.

#

(The gist is that OBS is expecting itself to be ran on a display connected to the eGPU, and not on any internal or system-connected display, so the output never gets sent back unless you tell OBS to run on an external GPU.)

sage basin
sullen tinsel
#

Uhh it’s connected to my Mac mini which is connected to my monitor

sage basin
#

It seems that you have to render on the iGPU and encode on the eGPU.

sullen tinsel
sage basin
#

If that doesn't work, I'd keep asking around.

#

My memory is fuzzy.

sage basin
sullen tinsel
sage basin
# sullen tinsel Sorry how do I do this?

If you uncheck "Prefers External GPU" then set your encoder to the eGPU in OBS settings, that's enough.

If you want to use the eGPU for everything:

  1. Set OBS.app to "Prefer external GPU"
  2. Set all OBS Helper .apps in OBS.app/Contents/Frameworks/ to "Prefer external GPU"
  3. Open terminal, and run `SafeEjectGPU gpuids [e/dGPU ID] LaunchOnGPU [path to OBS.app]`, replacing [e/dGPU ID] with the ID of the eGPU, and [path to OBS.app] with the path to OBS.app.

You'll have to do step 3 every time you launch OBS.

To get the GPU ID, run `SafeEjectGPU gpus` in terminal to list the GPUs connected and their IDs (look for gpuid ID_HERE - GPU NAME HERE) you want .

`SafeEjectGPU` lets you force applications onto eGPUs completely, even if they don't natively support it or only partially support it.

It is annoyingly technical, and the only person who was working on eGPU support, last I heard, no longer has an eGPU in service. I don't believe anything has changed in regards to this since I moved on to M2.

swift dirge
sullen tinsel
#

I’m probs really dumb

sage basin
# swift dirge Just for expectation setting, external GPUs are effectively abandoned by Apple a...

If it's like it was when it was supported, it's still the same fussing/upkeep. Effectively, OBS's implementation was bugged and hardcoding everything to the first GPU macOS returns, which is always the iGPU on most systems.

The encoder selection had just been fixed when eGPU support was dropped. Renderer was never fixed. So the black screen happens when OBS is "running" on the eGPU, but the renderer is still running off another GPU.

The only two solutions are:

  • Run OBS off the iGPU and encode only with the e/dGPU.
  • Use the process outlined above to force all of OBS to run on the desired GPU, returning it first instead of the internal one.
swift dirge
#

Uh, sure I guess. Point being, it's neither supported by Apple, or us at this point. I won't say don't spend time trying, just level setting current expectations. The history of support and what was or was not working isn't really relevant here.

sage basin
sullen tinsel
#

Yeah I did that should I click on the apple vt hardware?

sage basin
sullen tinsel
#

There’s two of the same one

sage basin
sullen tinsel
#

Oh bruh

#

Haha

sage basin
#

There should be 2 AppleVT Hardware, and one Apple VT Software, I think?

sullen tinsel
#

So one I assume is the egpu, what’s the other one?

sage basin
sullen tinsel
#

Ahh ok

sage basin
#

You can test this by opening activity monitor. There is a way to show which GPU a process is using. I think you want to look at VTEncoderXPCService. Though I remember little beyond that. You basically start a recording, and check to see which GPU the VTEncoderXPCService created by OBS is running on.

Note that there might be multiples of that service running at any time, since other programs can spawn it. Make sure it's the one being used by OBS.

#

Hopefully it is the second GPU in the list, in OBS, though, to make it easier. Since macOS typically returns the iGPU first.

#

But there's no promises that the list is sorted the same each time.

#

Wishing you luck @sullen tinsel — eGPUs are cool, and I drove one for a couple years before upgrading to an Air M2. They are handy, but OBS' "support" (and lack thereof), let alone Apple's, is very limited.

I ended up doing this whole process and writing a shell script that launched OBS on my eGPU every time. Takes technical knowhow and comfort with the Terminal, but it got the best results.

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

  • (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
  • (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings

There shouldn't be any need to convert anything

#

Even if you use MKV, you can remux them to MP4. It's instant and has no quality loss, unlike conversion

fading hareBOT
#

Remuxing allows you to copy video and audio from one MKV/FLV to another video container format for use in players and editors that do not support MKV/FLV. This process is safe, lossless, and takes seconds.

To remux any recordings made with OBS Studio:

  1. In OBS Studio, click the File menu → Remux Recordings

  3. Click on the Remux button

I've recently started streaming on my new mac (os sonoma, only because of the new audio setting in OBS). Used to put up with a misbehaving PC. I had followed a "How to stream on Mac" videos and everything was working fairly fine. But after installing 30.1.0 I had severe dropped frames spikes and massive stuttering for two weekends. I have since updated to 30.1.1 which didn't change anything initially. Did anyone else experience issues like this? (I have other issues that I would like to discuss, but one thing at a time).
Also, I did turn off Game Mode as it was making things even worse.

How it happened was - I started OBS as per usual, webcam already plugged in and it prompted an update. I clicked update. After update it reconfigured my webcam from what its usual state was of taking up all of the screen into only taking up a quarter of the screen and leaving the rest black. After that I dragged it back to take up the entire screen again, wen't to use it as per usual and it was very zoomed in (obviously because I had now fiddled around with reconfiguring the screen) - I went back to re-drag it back down to size and the application crashed - after that it was an endless loop of not being able to open it with the "OBS did not shut down properly" prompt

#

hopefully that kind of helps! It definitely started the whole chain off with downloading the update

Hello, I'm kind of at my wits end right now.
I use OBS to record my Xbox Series X with my Elgato HD60s+ for making YouTube videos, it has worked just fine for months. I used to use Game Capture HD but it started to not save recordings consistently so I would lose an entire recording. I decided to switch to OBS because it seems like everyone uses it and like I said, it worked fine but now it will not stay at 60fps and now will jump down to 58, 47, & 32fps all the time! I don't know why it's doing this. As I said, it's been fine for months. If I open stats it says "Frames missed due to rendering lag." A few months ago it would stay at 60fps and would not move ever!
I'm only recording 1920x1080 High Quality, Medium File Size. When I record my desktop it doesn't drop frames. When I switch to my capture card it immediately jumps down to 30fps and then will go back to 60fps and then just kind of goes all over the place... my recordings have turned into a PowerPoint presentation. I have uninstalled and reinstalled OBS and that did seem to fix the problem for about a month but now it's back.
I have plenty of hard drive space and I have a new 4T SSD external hard drive on the way.
I was thinking maybe it's the capture card itself but I have a new HD60 X that I plugged in to see if it would work and it too will not stay at 60fps.
(I don't use the HD60 X on my iMac because it does not support the audio for it.)
I've seen the CPU at 2% and then 32% and then 58%.
I don't know what the problem is, I'm not super tech savvy so any help would be appreciated.

I have a Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019 iMac with a 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

neon lily

If you're streaming on your PS5, you don't need OBS Studio

If you're streaming to Twitch, you use your Twitch Dashboard to see chat and so on (https://dashboard.twitch.tv)

Do you have a capture card?

You need one to connect the PS5 to your Mac so that OBS Studio can capture the gameplay

The video signal has to go through OBS Studio in order for you to make any additions like backgrounds and music

OBS Studio doesn’t just magically add backgrounds and music to a stream already in progress from your console

I'm recording a video podcast for the first time using OBS, and have two questions, dear discord community! 1. How do I include audio file - music - at the beginning and end of the video podcast? 2. (bit trickier) I am using a lot of images, and have set these up as individual scenes. When I have completed each episode of the video podcast, do I just delete these and start again, or is there a way of saving individual sessions, and reloading them later? Thanks all!

Thank you - that sounds like the best way of doing it. Any ideas on the second question, how to save individual presentations? There doesn't seem to be a capability in OBS to work on different projects.

I've been tasked with setting up the stream for a fishing tournament from scratch and I'm curious of the best way to pull in the live video from each angler. Gonna be 5-6 anglers out on their boats fishing at the same time, each one with a cell phone to capture video. How can I patch in the video/audio of them all in at once and switch between them? I've considered a plugin to connect to them all in a big skype call, and I've looked into VDO.Ninja a bit but that seems less reliable.

Hello, I am a COMPLETE NOVICE and am having difficulties finding information on how to use OBS on Zoom. I started the virtual camera on OBS, opened Zoom and found that the OBS virtual camera isn't option to switch to. I read somewhere that I need to download a OBS virtual camera plugin but when I search for one the links seem outdated and then they don't lead to the most up to date version. I have searched youtube and haven't found anything that is addressing the issue I'm having.
Is this a problem with settings in my OBS or Zoom?
I'm not sure where to start. Is there a thread I should explore, or a video that I can watch that will help me get OBS virtual camera on Zoom? Where do I start?

are you saying your recordings look bad specifically on youtube or when you're playing them back locally on your machine as well?

forest axle
#

then don't record at 1080p, record at your screen's native resolution, if that's what you want

forest axle
#

i don't know how to interpret that statement, you'll need to be more specific about why "it is bad"

soft lynx
#

ok

#

so

#

on youtube

#

it says it is at 1080p

#

and the quality looks like 720p

neon lily
#

Show us?

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily
#

Do you have a recording of a stream on there?

soft lynx
#

its on yt

forest axle
#

if you uploaded something above 1080p to youtube, it wouldn't show as being 1080p. so what you're saying doesn't exactly make sense

soft lynx
#

uh ok

#

so

neon lily
#

Please send the video

soft lynx
#

my native resolution is 1710x1107

neon lily
#

It’s actually higher than that

soft lynx
forest axle
neon lily
#

Because all modern Macs have Retina displays, the actual resolution is twice that horizontally and twice that vertically

forest axle
#

you need to listen when people tell you how to resolve your issue

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily
#

It looks like 1710x1107, but it's really 3420x2214

soft lynx
forest axle
#

we've both had this exact same conversation with you before

neon lily
#

So 3420x2214 is naturally not going to look as good when reduced to 1920x1080 — that's almost half the size

soft lynx
#

so these are the right settings?

neon lily
#

Those are the right settings for sending 3420x2214 video, sure. Are you sure that's what you want to send?

soft lynx
#

for my stream, i made the base and output to 1920x1080 for the stream so maybe that is the problem

neon lily
#

So everything's working exactly as you've set it up

soft lynx
#

ok

#

the preview

#

of obs

#

like what you can see

#

in the obs app

neon lily
#

What about it

soft lynx
#

my roblox window

neon lily
#

What about it

soft lynx
#

is way too small

neon lily
#

What do you mean by "way too small"

#

Take a screenshot

soft lynx
#

ok

#

the whole roblox isn't fitting

#

so do i make it smaller

#

so leave it?

neon lily
#

It looks to me like the preview is too big

soft lynx
#

ik

neon lily
#

Right-click on the preview -> Preview scaling -> Scale to Window

soft lynx
#

thats the problem

#

ok

neon lily
#

Like this

soft lynx
#

ohhhh

#

ok

#

here

neon lily
#

Much better

soft lynx
#

the roblox window doesn't completely fill up the box

#

its that ok?

neon lily
#

Correct. That's because the Roblox window isn't full screen

soft lynx
#

ohhhhh

#

makes sense now

#

for my m2 chip

neon lily
#

The black section accounts for your menu bar and Dock, which you aren't capturing

soft lynx
#

for my bitrate

#

with the m2 chip

#

whats a good one for streaming?

#

my is 9k rn

neon lily
#

What service are you streaming to? YouTube, yeah?

#

For 1080p video at 60fps to YouTube, go for 18,000 kbps

soft lynx
#

yes

#

youtube

#

ok thanks

#

just curious

#

how do you know whats the right one?

neon lily
#

There's a formula that gives you good estimation of the base line.

soft lynx
#

this image

#

is the encoder options

#

which is the best

neon lily
#

H.264 Hardware

soft lynx
#

why?

neon lily
#

Because YouTube doesn't accept HEVC video and because you want to use the hardware encoder

soft lynx
#

these are my streaming settings now

neon lily
#

Wait, you're not rescaling your output according to that

soft lynx
neon lily
#

So that means you're still outputting 3420x2214

#

So the bit rate needs to be higher

soft lynx
#

like 20k?

neon lily
#

You would need 48,000 kbps

soft lynx
soft lynx
neon lily
#

The higher the resolution, the more data it takes to transmit it efficiently

#

That was probably the problem you had before, your resolution was still really high and your bit rate was pitifully low

soft lynx
#

and one last question

#

do i change my rescale output or keep it off?

neon lily
#

I have another question to ask, in order to answer that one

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily
#

Why do you have the output resolution so high to begin with? Are you recording video locally at the same time as streaming it?

soft lynx
#

no

#

idk tbh

#

i never rlly knew the right settings

#

oh the output

#

i just changed that

neon lily
#

To?

soft lynx
#

it was 1920x1080 before

neon lily
#

OK

soft lynx
#

so it should look nice now?

neon lily
#

So what is it now

soft lynx
#

here are my final settings

neon lily
#

And the Video tab?

soft lynx
#

ok so

neon lily
#

OK, looks fine

soft lynx
#

the recording tab

#

should the bitrate be 48k too?

neon lily
#

No

#

Recordings don't use bit rate

soft lynx
#

wdym

neon lily
#

I'm not sure how else to answer your question

soft lynx
#

i have encoder option in the recording tab

neon lily
#

Recordings don't use bit rate, end of story

#

You should be using Simple mode

soft lynx
fading hareBOT
# soft lynx i have encoder option in the recording tab

For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:

  1. In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
  2. In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
  3. Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
soft lynx
#

oh ok

#

for the quality idc how much space it takes, which is best?

neon lily
#

Follow those instructions there, and don't forget to set the bit rate and encoder in the streaming section

soft lynx
neon lily
#

Indistinguishable

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily

soft lynx

knotty current
#

Camcorder is Sony CCD-TR640E, Video capture is the Climax Digital Video Grabber, here is a screenshot of it. My Mac is a 2020 Macbook Air.

#

I've downloaded the drivers for it already, so it should be working.

gleaming lark
#

tbh it needing drivers is a bit of a red flag

#

does it work outside obs?

#

(like in quicktime player)

knotty current
#

I've tried it in iMovie but the camera is too old to be recognised by it, the camera doesn't have a screen to playback the footage so I can't use the Sony PlayHome player either.

gleaming lark
#

wdym the camera is too old

#

if you use a capture device like that, iMovie doesn't know what camera you're using

knotty current
#

it's a handycam from the 90s, the camera isn't on the list of supported cameras. It isn't showing up anywhere when I try and import or play the footage, the device is showing on OBS but doesn't seem to be working there either. Apologies, I've never tried to do this with 8mm tapes before, and I don't know a lot about cameras so this is brand new to me.

gleaming lark
#

oh I mean iMovie would only natively support digital cameras and 8mm is… not that

#

but try opening quicktime player and making a new movie recording

#

then selecting the capture device there

knotty current
#

I'm getting the audio from the video when I select the OBS virtual camera and the ezcap audio device, but the video isn't showing up, it's just the OBS logo and a camera icon with a line through it.

gleaming lark
#

that's the obs virtual camera

#

(while it is inactive)

knotty current
#

when I select the usb device for both, it's just a black screen

gleaming lark
#

do you have any other video sources that you could try with the capture device

#

tbh I think it's either not supporting the camera's output format (pal vs ntsc or secam) or it's just a dud

#

it not working outside obs at least means it's not an obs issue

knotty current
#

i have a eoteck AV/s-video to hdmi convertor, would that work?

gleaming lark
#

if you also have an hdmi capture card

#

it's also possible the camera's video output is broken btw

knotty current
#

if not, I'll just have to get a new capture usb. are there any that OBS recommends? I'm UK based.

#

it works on the tv, using the HDMI convertor thing, so I know that the output does work, it just doesn't seem to be working on my laptop

gleaming lark
#

ah I was about to suggest that

#

we don't have any specific suggestions (certainly not for old analog video), but I would suggest getting one that is UVC-compatible

#

but since you have an analog to HDMI converter that you know your camera works with, I would actually probably suggest getting an HDMI capture card instead

knotty current
#

ok, thank you so much! I really appreciate the help 🙂

gleaming lark
#

UVC means it's driverless btw

#

any UVC-compatible capture card will show up on your computer as if it were a USB webcam and work in any app that supports video input

#

sometimes manufacturers explicitly state UVC somewhere, sometimes they say "no drivers needed" or something to that effect

knotty current
#

i'll have a look just now, thanks! 🙂

tiny coral
#

Hi there. I just upgraded my mac to the latest OS and now when i'm recording there is a bar at the top which shows the recording window icon. Any ideas how I can get rid of it without recording my entire screen. Apologies if its really obvious

forest axle
#

you'll need to crop the source down to get rid of it. it's a macOS bug

tiny coral
#

I can easily do that for when the game is fullscreen - is there a way to do that for when the game is embedded in another scene?

forest axle
#

when the game is embedded in another scene, is it fullscreen or in a standalone window?

tiny coral
#

Unsure of the question. Its set up as a window capture. See my preview

forest axle
#

if you need it cropped both places, then just crop it in both scenes

tiny coral
#

How do I do that? My orange bars is a background image with the black background attached

forest axle
#

the minecraft source within the left scene looks like a copy of the same macOS screen capture source

#

exit studio mode, then go to the stream paused scene, then select your minecraft source and crop the source the same way you would any other source

tiny coral
#

It is the same source. Its a window capture. What i did for the one that is full screen is I moved the entire thing up to crop it but i cant do that for the paused screen

forest axle
#

right, so you can actually crop a source without just moving it off the canvas

#

there is an actual crop function

#

which is what i mean when i say crop

#

the simplest way to do that is to hold alt and drag an edge of a source

tiny coral
#

Ahh ok gotcha thanks. I assume this is a known bug with macos?

forest axle
#

it's been reported, yes

tiny coral
#

ok, thanks for your help

@neon lily

#

i did everything you said

#

let me upload a video

#

i made one 30 second video

#

and when i went to my recording file

#

this happened

#

i got 4 individual files

#

and the resolution looks weird

edgy basin
#

Hey guys, if I record a video with my settings, the files are too big. For example is a 20 minutes recording 500 GB. That´s way to much, isn´t it?

#

that´s my settings. (sry, i only got it on german)

forest axle
#

your files are very large because you're recording with the prores codec, which is effectively lossless

edgy basin
#

wich should I take?

forest axle
#

generally, either hardware h264 or hardware hevc

edgy basin
#

if i take others, the quality is too bad

forest axle
#

!local

fading hareBOT
#

For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:

  1. In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
  2. In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
  3. Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
edgy basin
#

ok, I try it

forest axle
#

if you are trying to maximize space savings for the same quality, HEVC will perform better than h264

edgy basin
#

I did HEVC hardware, but it had a very bad quality.

help

#

can someone help me?

#

i did everything exactly as you said and quit medal.tv

#

all the settings are right

#

but i get 4 files from one recording

forest axle
edgy basin
#

this...

#

does it have function in 4K too?

forest axle
#

i'm not sure what you mean

#

whether you can record HEVC in 4K without issues depends on which mac you have

edgy basin
#

ok, the resolution is okay now, but it´s very laggy

#

my mac is a mac mini M2 Pro, 10-Core CPU, 16-Core GPU, 16-Core Neural Engine, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

my monitors are both 4K, 144 HZ, 1 ms reaction time

#

*reponse time

forest axle
#

that lag could be for a few reasons. best way to go from here would be to see a clean log

#

!maccleanlog

fading hareBOT
#

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:

  1. Restart OBS Studio first!
  2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
  3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
  4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
  5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel
fading hareBOT

I keep getting this error message when attempting to launch. Running a M2 MBP

mental bobcat
forest axle
#

do you receive a crash report popup when OBS fails to launch?

mental bobcat
#

Yes

forest axle
#

that's a known issue with the new video capture device source. the easiest resolution unfortunately is to remove your scene collection

#

to do that:

  1. open Finder
  2. press Command-Shift-G or do Go->Go To Folder
  3. paste in the following and hit enter: ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes
  4. remove the .json and .json.bak files for your scene collection out of the folder

neon lily

Can you show a screenshot of your full screen?

soft lynx

of obs?

there

neon lily

No, of your whole screen. Dock, menu bar

soft lynx

ok

like withobs open?

neon lily

On a regular desktop, not a full screen window

soft lynx

oh

neon lily

neon lily

You see that big ol’ black circle in the menu bar?

soft lynx

ik

its medal

i just opened

it

bc i was gonna play roblox and not record with obs

neon lily
#

You said it wasn’t running

soft lynx
#

it wasn't

#

i quit it

#

but i just reopened it

neon lily
#

Ok. Can you please

  • quit Medal
  • restart OBS
  • add another screen capture source, leave it on display mode to capture the whole screen
  • record yourself playing Roblox in a window instead of full screen
  • record about 30 secs then send a log
soft lynx
#

what do you mean add another screen capture source?

neon lily
#

Exactly that. Add a new macOS Screen Capture source

soft lynx
#

ok

#

here

fading hareBOT
neon lily
#

Can you send the recording too?

soft lynx
#

ok

#

it says its to big

#

to send

#

its more than 25mb

#

wait

#

it made 2 videos again

neon lily
#

On our Discord server, you can send files up to 100 MB

soft lynx
#

a 6 second and a 24 second one

#

there is the 6 second one

#

idk why it makes two seperate videos on a mkv

neon lily
#

Well, that seems to record pretty good to me

soft lynx
#

uh

#

but like if you look at this one

#

lemme send it

#

that video quality is really good

neon lily
#

Also, I believe you have a hotkey set to start recording and stop recording. If it's the same key, then when you stop a recording, you instantly start another one

neon lily
#

OBS Settings -> Hotkeys

soft lynx
#

i don't

neon lily
soft lynx
soft lynx
neon lily
#

Why show me a random person's video, I'm not helping them, I'm helping you

neon lily
#

And from what I saw in that recording, the recording was smooth

soft lynx
#

im just asking why the quality on that is so good?

#

and how i can make mine like it?

neon lily
#

I just told you how

#

You just did a test recording

#

It's working just fine, smooth as butter

#

But I know what you're going to do

soft lynx
#

what?

neon lily
#

You're going to turn Medal.tv back on, the recording will go disastrous, and you'll wonder what's wrong again 🙃

soft lynx
#

no

#

I won't

neon lily
#

If you turn Medal.tv back on, I will no longer be able to help you

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily
#

I don't know

soft lynx
#

uh

neon lily
#

Can you show me a screenshot in Finder of your two recordings?

soft lynx
#

can I just make it mp4?

#

ok

neon lily
#

Bad idea to make it just MP4

soft lynx
fading hareBOT
# soft lynx can I just make it mp4?

Record to FLV or MKV. If you record to MP4 and the recording is interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards by selecting File > Remux Recordings in the main OBS Studio window.

soft lynx
neon lily
#

Looks like you have auto-remuxing on

soft lynx
#

how do i turn it off?

#

the auto remuxing

neon lily
#

OBS Settings -> Advanced -> uncheck "Automatically remux to MP4"

soft lynx
#

ok

neon lily
#

Then in OBS Settings -> Output -> Recording, try putting it back to Fragmented MP4. That should be fine

#

@soft lynx OK, restart OBS one more time, record some more of your gameplay of Roblox (at least 2 minutes), then send the log here. Maybe upload the video to Streamables, too.

#

Leave Roblox in windowed mode

soft lynx
#

ok so one question

#

where is the auto remux?

neon lily
#

Why did you change to OBS Settings -> Output to Advanced mode

#

Nobody said to do that

soft lynx
#

uh

#

what do i make advanced then?

neon lily
neon lily
soft lynx
#

ohhh

#

ok

#

its off

#

ok so

#

i will do a 2 minute video and upload the streamable link

#

imma close discord now

neon lily
#

OK. Make sure to keep Roblox in windowed mode

soft lynx
#

hi

fading hareBOT
soft lynx
#

done

#

uhh

#

when i try to upload it to streamable

#

it just shows the mkv

#

not the mkv and mp4

neon lily
#

Yeah, now you can manually make the MP4 file

fading hareBOT

  2. Click on the … (three dots) button, then select your MKV or FLV file
  3. Click on the Remux button
neon lily
#

(I'll repeat my instruction from earlier: go to OBS Settings -> Output -> Recording, change the format from MKV to Fragmented MP4)

soft lynx
#

ok

#

i remuxed

#

it

neon lily
#

Great, you should now have an MP4 to upload

soft lynx
#

i do

#

the thing is

#

its half a gigabyte

neon lily
#

Remember when I told you that the file sizes would be large if you use Indistiguishable, and you said you didn't care?

#

Sounds like you care now 😄

soft lynx
#

uh

#

wait

#

what should I have used

#

bruh

neon lily
#

🤦 Already went through this

#

OBS Settings -> Output -> change Indistinguishable Quality to High Quality

soft lynx
#

ok

#

imma redo it

neon lily
#

You could also reduce your output resolution (OBS Settings -> Video) to something lower

soft lynx
#

but still

#

ok

#

like what?

#

oh

#

i forgot to mention

#

i remember you yesterday telling me to change my output resolution to 2160x1476

#

what should my downscale filter be?

neon lily
#

1920x1243, with a streaming bit rate of 16,000 kbps

#

Also, you're allowed to write out full sentences before you hit Return.
