this is a limitation of OBS. interfaces with more tracks can be used starting with OBS 30.1, which is in the RC phase. so you can wait, or try the build in #beta-testing-30-1-archive

Hi there! I'm having an issue with all versions after 29.0.2 - I actually started having this issue ~months ago, when I updated to version 30 (not sure which version of 30 exactly) but I found a work-around by just deleting it and redownloading past versions until I finally stopped having the issue when i downloaded 29.0.2. Essentially, when I opened the app I would get an error message that "OBS quit unexpectedly", clicked "Reopen" and then it would redirect to the "OBS did not shut down properly..." message, clicked "Run Normally" (because I have plug-ins I need to run) and it would just go back to the "OBS Studio quit unexpectedly" (yellow caution sign) message, and run that loop over and over. If I clicked "Ignore", it would just not open anything at all, no messages. If I tried "Run in Safe Mode", it would open the app (sometimes, sometimes not), but I wouldn't be able to add my plug-ins or any new sources at all (which wasn't a viable option, of course). Sometimes I would go through the aforementioned feedback loop and then the app would just refuse to open or show messages at all. So for the past 6 months or so I've just been running 29.0.2 because it's the only one that works. And every time I open the app, I get the "Update to verson 30.0whatever now!" pop up that I've exited out of, until today. I tried updating to the latest 30 version that isn't any of the new betas or RC1 to see if maybe the bug had resolved itself, but alas it had not lol. So I've just spent the past hour trial and error-ing my way back through all the past versions until I finally found my way back to my beloved 29.0.2. I'm fine with using that ad infinitum I suppose, but it might be nice to get to play with the new fancy versions and catch up with the rest of OBS humanity if there is a solution! could you post one of the crash reports? that's what you get when you click "report..." on the dialog from the first image you posted. you can paste the text in here and discord will convert it to a text file

it's probable that this is a bug that is fixed in 30.1, but having the crash log would tell us for certain

if it crashed recently, you can also find the crash log by opening console.app (located in /applications/utilities), selecting "crash reports" and finding one labeled OBS. you can drag and drop that in here as well

Logitech's OBS plugin may currently be causing OBS Studio to crash on launch. If this is the case for you, follow these instructions to remove it:

  1. Open Logitech's G HUB software
  2. In G HUB, select the menu, then Games and Applications. Choose OBS, then disable any enabled integrations
  3. Open Finder
  4. Click on the Go menu, then Go to Folder. Paste in the following then press Return : /Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins

I actually tried changing the resolution from the Macbook native dimensions to 16:9 as well as changing the encoder to Apple H264 Hardware and Apple ProRes

they solved the stuttering issues and cpu usage but the log files didn’t change for some reason

the analyzer only checks the first session. if you don't restart OBS the old encoder sessions will still be there

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

  • (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
  • (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
    3. restart OBS Studio

Hello all. I have a question about an issue I’m having. I’m new to OBS. I bought the $20 vivitar card from Walmart. I stream PUBG on xbox. Things seem to run fine and my audio is captured no problem. I want to capture my live party chat so i changed my audio setting on xbox to come through headset and speakers. When I do this it now just captures the people in the party and not my own voice. Is there a setting im missing?

I'm having a hard time getting OBS to play two media files in my one scene, at the same time. I have it set to "stop when not visible, restart when visible" but when I switch to the scene, file one starts to play, then there is a delay of anywhere from 0.25~seconds to 0.75~seconds before the second file starts. What I'm doing in the video heavily requires them to be synched. Even being off by 0.1seconds will completely ruin the presentation. I tried setting a hot key, the same hot key, to start playing both files, but this is very buggy and doesn't work more often than it does. Once it does work, I can't manage to use that hot key to pause or unpause the video again. I have to hit pause, slide the seek bar to 0, go tot he other file, repeat the same thing, switch out of the scene, back into it, thgen hit the hot key. If I clicked stop instead of pause it just don'tw ork at all. I'm not even sure this is how it works exactly I just know it's buggy and I'm trying to figure it out

Hi folks, having a weird issue I can't find anything about anywhere, and I've isolated the problem to something going on in OBS display specifically. I'm using an elgato HD60 S+ capture card, and it's doing weird things with brightness in the display making cones of light on the people in the game, which is wreaking havoc on the general lighting of the gameplay. This problem doesn't exist if I'm viewing the game using the Game Capture HD software, and is not localized to PS5 games but happens on Switch as well. I imagine I need to change something in my video settings but I'm not sure what to do

I'm using a macbook air and I am trying to use the mac os screen capture but the display doesn't automatically fit the screen and when I try to adjust it I still can't get it right. Either the top of the screen is cut off or the bottom of the screen is cutoff. Can someone please help me with this?

I cannot seem to record in 4K with my iPhone as an external camera.

I am running OBS Studio on a M2 MacBook Air. I want to use my iPhone 12 Pro Max as an external camera. In the video settings I have the base resolution and the output resolution set to 3840x2160.

When I select my phone in the video capture device, the highest option it gives me is 1920x1080. When selected the video stream has black borders. I know my phone can record 4K. Is this something I can work around, or is it a hardware/software limitation?

That's correct. It was on my old Mac Pro running an earlier version of OBS with the exact same connection.

Old Mac Pro was running Mojave and was at the end of it's OS upgrades. Don't remember the version of OBS exactly (and can't see it due to a lace of video output but I seem to remember ver.27 soething

my understanding was that that EOS utility software was required to make their cameras function as camera inputs for macOS. you may want to look up whatever docs/resources exist on canon's end that describe how to get your camera working as an input on apple silicon

"ABR is not good for streaming" really depends on your circumstances (in my experience, it's down to the ISP, your streaming service, and luck). I'd definitely try it, and it if works reliably, use it.
Otherwise, yes you can use x264 software, but beware that it uses much more system resources (CPU specifically), so overall system performance (especially if you also do other things like gaming) will be worse.

I have a silly question. I have been using OBS for years now with little to know problems...it's pretty simple. All of a sudden I have run into an issue. I am currently use ProPresenter 7 and OBS to run our church's live stream. For some reason, the words are not transparent on the OBS screen. I see the words, but there's a black background on it. My syphon has the "allow transparency" box checked. I have never had to mess with this until now, I don't know what I am doing wrong and could use some help. Thank you!

all that said, I watched a little bit of your video and didn't see any issues with the captured video but that may be due to discord recompressing it

Very likely your Mac can’t keep up with capturing and playing the game at the same time

double check by running the game in a window and opening the stats panel

I have an issue, with this computer, where whenever I start streaming, the cursor starts moving really slow... and it seems to react with a delay, would anyone be so kind so as to tell me if its just my equipment that is too outdated or what would you think could be the problem?

The cursor seems to be working just fine with OBS when I run it, but as soon as I am streaming and even if I stop the stream, the cursor still works really slow. Only after I close OBS once more is the cursor working at normal speed.

if you need those dimensions, you may have better luck with a software encoder like x264

Hi friends, I’ve just joined this discord as a last resort because I’m struggling here — and my issue might be something easily fixable so bear with me. Tech isn’t my specialty. 😂 I stream with my Xbox. I recently finally got a capture card to connect to my Mac so that I can use OBS, because I’ve had OBS set up for my use for years and just never was able before.
With the capture card, I was finally able to stream how I’ve always wanted! Everything went well. For about 2 streams. Since last night, I’ve tried to hop on and use my Mac and capture card to stream — the same set up I used before, just days ago — and the capture card is not showing up on OBS. I’ve restarted my Mac multiple times, I’ve re-connected the chords many times in different ways, I’ve installed and reinstalled OBS, even updated it, I looked all over the internet — I’m just having no luck. 😦 no matter what I’ve done, my capture card won’t show back up as a source for me to select. Does anyone have any ideas for me to try, or even solutions? I hope this has made sense, and thank you in advance!

ugh, it did not. When I first set everything up, I followed instructions from a site, then streamed and ended it. After the stream ended I just disconnected the card’s USB from my Mac, and then came back and it wasn’t working. I’m sure this issue was something I must’ve done but I’m certain I didn’t alter anything that could’ve caused this. I’ve been trying to figure it out for maaany hours; I want thank you for your time and trying to help!!

i have the 2 hdmis from the xbox and a tv plugged into it at the moment, and it’s connected to this little port, which is then connected to my Mac. I’ve tried to plug it into different usb ports, and different C ports on my Mac too even though that’s not the issue ‘cause the other connections work lol

everything in between the card and your machine has to support at least usb 3. what is the make and model of the hub? what is the cable connecting the hub to your machine?

i'm not sure about the hub; i got it from my school, with some other equipment. i didn't consider whether it supports usb 3, but because it had worked before i only assumed 'til now that it did

update, i bought 2 new hubs, both which said they were usb 3.0 compatible. I’ve plugged my capture card into each and then each into the MacBook, and still no luck, so at this point I really have no idea why it’s not working. It still reads those hubs as 2.0, even though they said they were 3.0. And I still can’t figure out why it worked before but now it won’t.

for some reason macOS still thinks your device wants to connect via usb 2 and not usb 3. this could be a problem with the capture card, or the hub. it's hard to say. when both devices involved are relatively cheap, things often don't work correctly

I cannot seem to record in 4K with my iPhone as an external camera.

I am running OBS Studio on a M2 MacBook Air. I want to use my iPhone 12 Pro Max as an external camera. In the video settings I have the base resolution and the output resolution set to 3840x2160.

When I select my phone in the video capture device, the highest option it gives me is 1920x1080. When selected the video stream has black borders. I know my phone can record 4K. Is this something I can work around, or is it a hardware/software limitation?

The phone by itself might be able to record in 4k, but that doesn't automatically mean that it exposes that resolution as a webcam (which requires it to send the 4k stream to your Mac either via USB or WiFi).

By default an iPhone will only support the 1080p preset or 1440p via manual configuration via Continuity Camera

your OBS setup is pretty simple, and i don't see a lot you can optimize there. i would suggest going back to the hardware encoder now that you have more modest resolution/fps settings, except you're streaming, and the hardware encoder is not reliable for streaming on intel

if you dont want to try the hardware encoder again, you'll probably need to look outside OBS for things to optimize in terms of the general load of your machine while you're streaming/recording

Ah ok, but there could be a solution in this regard that when I activate the game mode the recording goes jerky with OBS (with quicktime instead it works) and in addition when I register, the softwarex264 encoding that uses less cpu and more memory is the only one that works without going jerky when I register in 60hz and must have the game mode disabled, that's why I've been using quicktime with VB-Cable audio lately

Hello!

I am a new streamer with an Elgato hd60x with the chat link pro cable. I have used this with my ps4 and it ran very smooth! I tried setting up my switch this week and I am coming across some audio issues and I am desperate need of some help. I feel as if I have tried all of my options. Here is what I an working with:

  • My OBS is picking up my switch game video
  • My OBS is not picking up my switch game audio
  • My switch game audio is coming through my headphones, so I can personally hear it

Here are the settings I have tried to mess around with:

  • Using Elgato Capture Device Utility I have HDMI audio turned on
  • In Settings > audio > global audio devices my capture card is selected under mic/aux
  • In advanced audio settings I have clicked on monitor and output and also output only on my audio input section capture card

I feel like it is a quick fix and I am missing a setting. I am just really confused because my playstation works so effortlessly, and I feel like I am missing something!
Any help would be much appreciated

Yes, In my settings I have the aux audio set as my capture card. I saw this wasnt working, so I also added an audio input capture, and linked my capture card and that didnt work either.

As a follow up note on this, the only usual difference for setting up the Chat Link (or just general HD60X audio) with MacOS in OBS should be that you generally have to add the card to OBS again as an Audio Input Capture (or gloabl audio device) - unlike the Windows counterpart, it won't pull audio through the video input capture for the HD60X. The setup for that can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27fYbUln-Vg at the 37 second mark in the setup video.

Using your card as the global mic may work around this - but do keep in mind that a Chat Link doesn't actually split your headset mic - mic from that will only go to the console, it only sends audio FROM the console to the capture card (issues with differing voltages, unamped headset mics and usual PC audio wiring, I believe - Chat Link as a result isn't wired up to split a mic). I mention that mostly as you're still liable to want a mic feed for an actual mic.

Other than that, Analog audio is the correct setting in capture device utility when using a chat link. They also have a guide for an issue that crops up sometimes where the macOS privacy settings consider the card's audio interface a mic and may block it in some apps. https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036388751-Capture-Device-not-working-with-macOS-Adjusting-Privacy-Settings (Screen shots are from macOS Catalina there, but the steps should be about the same).

Hi, I recently upgraded my mac OS from High Sierra to Monterey. My mac is Intel Macbook Pro Retina 15". My OBS is also upgraded to currently at 30.1.0.

I did some test streams and strangely they lag so bad. I tried lowering the encoder settings, bitrates, resolutions.

Some of the things I've tried:

  1. Tried downgrading to 30.0.2. Not working
  2. Tried changing the encoders (Advanced) to Software and x264. Not working
  3. Tried playing around with the bitrates. Not working.
  4. Tried changing the resolutions. Current resolutions shown on attached screenshot are as low as I could get. Not working.
  5. Tried removing and readding browser sources. Not working.

They did nothing. Would appreciate help. Thank you!

Hi i am having the hardest time with source record. I have an Elgato HD60+ and Logitech Brio both with the source record filter. It is on off sometimes record and sometimes does not. Right now they are recording black with time stamp of 0:0000. Have tried changing the encoder - in the past it sometimes worked but frequently crashed. Restarting OBS sometimes worked but doesn't now. Just found out it recently it was recording the Logitech camera but both sources of audio before now. Now being it doesn't record at all.

Recording any fullscreen window has a black bar at the top that changes size when the window is focused, so I can't just crop the window. Cmd+F makes it worse, as showcased here.

Hey everyone, I've run into a bit of a snag and could use some help. After successfully cloning and building a project from the main repository, I decided to fork it. However, post-forking, when I try to build the cloned fork, the build fails.

I'm hitting a series of CMake errors related to list indices being out of range and an invalid VERSION format. The errors look something like this:

I've upgraded from 30.0.2 to 30.1.0 on my MBP M3 Max running Sonoma 14.4. I broadcast live sporting events and use OBS Media Sources that call an SRT:// stream. The feed is hosted on Nimble Streamer (https://softvelum.com/nimble). The media source can no longer bring down the stream. If I roll back to 30.0.2 the feed is successfully pulled down. A coworker is having the same issue on the PC version of 30.1.0 and it appears that a few folks in https://discord.com/channels/348973006581923840/374636015396192257 are too. Hey everyone. Got a Mac / PC question.

I'm trying to stream from my Macbook pro to my PC for music producer type streams.
This means I need to capture audio and video simultaneously.

I'm using my PC to run OBS and I'm wondering if I go USB C from my Mac to HDMI into my PC
Will OBS be able to see it as a source I can tap into or might I need some extra software to enable that?

Also wondering if there'll be any major latency issues as my Camera is plugged into the PC so hoping the audio from the MAC and visuals from the PC camera match up.

I would like some support with audio routing on my i7 2019 MBP running Catalina. I have a Scarlett 4i4 audio interface attached.
GOAL: to record desktop sound without any mic sound.
OBSERVATION: All audio sources are inactive except mic/aux. This channel contains desktop and built-in mic sound.

I'm not a stranger to tech and I've tried methodically to find solutions online and change one thing at a time. I have not been able to separate desktop and mic sound in the mix/aux source, so that I can mute them individually. I checked several videos and forums, but they all seem to miss the mark, either by just showing how to mute and audio channel or some such.

Hi folks ... I'm running OBS Studio 30.0.2 and got a message to update to OBS Studio 30.1 ... when it had updated it could find the virtual camera ... I reverted back to the previous version and everything was OK again... Is there an issue with the new release, or am I doing something wrong?

I'm running into a sudden issue on 30.0.2, where the kick docks are not connecting at all. I found the workaround for the constant crashing, and it usualy works just fine. But now instead of crashing constantly, when I try to add or open a dock from kick it comes up with a 400 error. Prior to that every time I would start OBS it would have me check a box (to pretend I was human). Now it brings that up, then it loads for a bit then the 400 error pops up.

Also, when I go to check for updates, 30.1 doesn't come up as an update. Is that just not available yet to update in this manner?

Hi all, trying to download from the website, for mac (intel core). I'm an absolute super noob to this. Each time I open the downloaded file, I get an error message saying 'OBS quit unexpectedly' then it gives me the option to Reopen, Report and Ignore. When I click Reopen, a new message appears that says 'The file can't be found'. I've updated my Macbook although it was already at least version 11.0 and the problem still persists. Why is this happening?

So, I am using OBS for the first time and I'm streaming from my Xbox on my Macbook via Twitch. The stream can hear my game audio, but not my mic audio nor my party audio

Browser source issue - streamelements alerts visuals not showing up

Hello everyone, sorry for the long post but this takes some explaining. I created some custom alerts using streamelements for tip and cheer donations. The problem I'm having is that some - and only some - of the visuals are not working in OBS.
Basically, I have variables set up so a certain visual and sound plays for a donation of $1, a different one for $5, etc. For some of them, like the $1 alert where I left the default streamelements video of a little coin as the visual, it works perfectly. But for higher amounts, I had added a custom video, like a little clip from spongebob for a $20 donation. When I emulate those, the sound plays, and the text saying "so and so tipped $20" shows up on my OBS screen, but the video itself does not show despite working inside streamelements.
I copied the browser source into my browser window and the video does show there, so the problem seems to happen only when it tries to send it through to OBS. I have searched for this issue and tried all the common solutions, including:
-Making sure the dimensions of the alert box in OBS match what I set in streamelements
-Having "shutdown source when not visible" checked (also having it unchecked, and messing around with all the other checkboxes/settings in various ways)
-Unchecking hardware acceleration in settings and restarting
-Restarting OBS multiple times, deleting and re-adding the browser source, deleting and re-adding the video inside streamelements, etc.
I'm pulling my hair out - again, the browser source itself does seem to work because most of the alerts work fine, its ONLY the ones where I added a custom video that this happens.
