Hi - I had OBS installed on my Mac but have recently deleted it. However, in all the video call apps I use (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet etc.) in my camera options it still shows an 'Elgato Virtual Camera' which I believe is what was created when originally using OBS Studio. I have looked at this page: https://obsproject.com/kb/virtual-camera-troubleshooting and the guidance there for MacOS (I am running MacOS 14.2.1) is to uninstall OBS Studio which I have done. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi. Am wondering why the picture is so choppy on my stream? I just setup a new camera - Canon R50 and I scAled the output to 3840x2160 for 4K. I used to stream with a 1080p camera and I never had issues with this choppy picture. I didnt change any settings besides scaling the video. Wondering if there is some other setting I need to change so the picture wont be so choppy. Audio is working just fine. Any advice is much appreciated

hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to seperI was hoping to ask for assistance with an issue im having.

Im streaming my PS5 game to twitch with audio from my headset. I am trying to figure out once i get the video on my computer from twitch in OBS software, How do I separate the voice / mic audio from the rest of the game , music etc audio?

#

I think you misunderstand what OBS is for

#

If you’re streaming from your PS5 using its built in streaming function, then OBS doesn’t enter the equation at all

#

If you’re using a capture card, however, and want to figure out how to separate your headset audio from game audio while using the capture card to use in OBS, head to #audio-support

# lime umbra i downloaded the stream from twitch

Okay, that's not what OBS is for, sorry. If you want separate audio that you can edit, you will need to record using OBS onto your hard drive.

For that, you need a capture card or to use remote play on the computer (if that's an option for Mac)

neon lily
#

Yeah if you stream from the PS5, there’s only one audio track by the time it reaches Twitch

#

There’s nothing to separate, it’s just one track

But wouldnt removing the source get rid of the alerts image on my stream entirely? Do i fix the problem through Twitches alert pages??

I have a bit of a challenge with obtaining 4k30fps with a pair of Sony ZV-E10 cameras and an m3 MacBook Pro w/ camlink 4ks. I have tried some of the suggestions in my original Reddit post; however, I am still not seeing any better results.

My system doesn't appear to have resource issues, at least not CPU/Memory. Dual 4k captures set to 24p 100mb via HDMI w/ camlink 4k (running both camlink on different Thunderbolt ports) is VERY stable with 24fps. It becomes very choppy as soon as I attempt to bump up to 30fps+.

I use the source record plug-in to define my settings for each capture and write the mp4 results out separately. I have ruled out the plug-in (at least I think), by attempting a single capture without source record and vanilla OBS capture on a single camera. The same exact results occur, even when attempting a single camera.

gentle bear
#

hey there

#

I could really use some help, I'm feeling like an absolute idiot here, sorry

#

I've got an Ultrastudio Recorder 3G and it is receiving a 1920x1080 stream over HDMI

#

I can see that stream in OBS and it is live, so that is good

#

ALL I want to do is to view that, full screen

#

That's IT

#

I don't need to stream it or anything

#

closest I've found so far to do this is to do "Fullscreen Projector" but this puts black bars ALL AROUND the feed, which is just insane - I have no clue what is causing that

#

I completely get that since the aspect ratio is different, I'd get bars on left and right, and I'm prepared for AND expecting that.

#

But I'm getting bars ABOVE it too. And THOSE bars - they aren't visible in the preview, so something is causing them and I need to figure out how to fix it

#

Is there a different/better way to just display the capture full screen than doing the "Fullscreen Projector"?

#

It looks like what may be happening is that it isn't scaling the capture up

#

is there a way to enable that?

austere fossil
gentle bear
#

This just utterly blows my mind

#

how is it NOT possible to make a capture go full screen?

#

I would think this is one of the just utterly most basic things people would want

forest axle
#

i can't reproduce that, my fullscreen projector scales my canvas to my display

gentle bear
#

so here is my issue

#

THIS, it looks good

#

just what I want - the capture fills the entire vertical space

#

this is what my fullscreen projector shows:

#

See the black border around EVERYTHING?

#

I need to remove the top and bottom black borders

#

so I see the full height of my content

#

this is what is so irritating

forest axle
#

your projector is in fact scaling correctly. your issue is that your capture is less wide than your canvas

gentle bear
#

I don't doubt it is me not having something set right, but I promise you - I've been all over trying to find a solution

#

ok, so how do I set my canvas to be as wide as my capture?

#

I can't remember where you set the canvas size at

#

I've seen it before but I can't find it now

forest axle
#

the easiest way is to right click your source, then set "resize output (source size)"

gentle bear
#

ok, I've done that multiple times

forest axle
#

i can't tell exactly what's going on with that capture, you may need to crop it beforehand

gentle bear
#

it has no effect

forest axle
#

then your capture itself is too wide, so you should crop it first

gentle bear
#

how do I crop it?

forest axle
#

the easiest way is to hold option and click and drag on an edge

gentle bear
#

like for some reason if I try to drag the red boxes inward instead of it CROPPING, it is rescaling everything smaller

#

ok

#

lol

#

it refuses

#

it lets me move the window around a bit

#

but I -cannot- remove the black borders

#

which is ultimately what I think has to happen

#

OBS just flat out refuses to let me crop

forest axle
#

you might need to reset the transform on the source first

#

select the source and hit command-R, then try to crop it again

gentle bear
#

I got it to let me do this

#

but it doesn't affect the fullscreen projector output - it is the same as before

forest axle
#

now resize the output to the source

gentle bear
#

I don't know how to do that, sorry

forest axle
#

the easiest way is to right click your source, then set "resize output (source size)"

gentle bear
#

ok, yeah, no effect

forest axle
#

what do you mean "no effect"

gentle bear
#

fullscreen projector is EXACTLY the same

forest axle
#

can you screenshot your OBS window?

gentle bear
#

still has borders all around

gentle bear
# gentle bear

This hasn't changed, ever, even with all the stuff you asked me to do

gentle bear
#

and after that I did the "Resize output (source size)"

forest axle
#

oh my mistake, resizing that way doesn't take the post-cropping size

#

you'll need to manually resize your output

gentle bear
#

fullscreen projector was same before all of that

forest axle
#

via settings->video

#

to account for the cropped size

gentle bear
#

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused here, lol

#

like, in EVERY OTHER video app ever created, you have a super simple way to ... size your feed to your output

#

in a way you can SEE

#

OBS seems to fail utterly at that

forest axle
#

well, there isn't anything stopping you from seeing how large your source is, and then resizing your canvas to that size, but yes, you will need to do that manually

#

so if you're cropping 144 pixels from each side, you'll need to reduce your horizontal canvas dimensions by 288

gentle bear
#

ok, I'm willing to do all of that, but how do I edit the screen and the canvas dimensions?

#

and how do I -see- what is going to become my "fullscreen projector"

#

because:

gentle bear
# gentle bear

THIS makes it look like it is going to fill the entire height

gentle bear
# gentle bear

Yet THIS is what I actually get - it is NOT filling the entire height

#

This is the disconnect I'm having - NO WHERE do I seem to have an actual preview that I can edit of what the fullscreen projector will show

forest axle
#

that's literally what i just told you how to do. you go to settings->video, and reduce your canvas size to that of your source

gentle bear
#

I have had them set to be the same EVERY TIME

#

since the beginning

#

they've always been identical

#

This is how they've looked from the beginning

#

never once changed them

forest axle
#

i'm telling you you need to change them

gentle bear
#

btw, I -REALLY- appreciate your help

forest axle
#

because the content within your capture is smaller than the size of the capture itself

#

you've cropped 144 pixels from each side. so you need to reduce the horizontal dimensions by 288

gentle bear
#

it doesn't seem to let me pick arbitrary base/output sizes

#

and I cannot ever output a larger size than the base

#

so I'm just asking... how are you wanting me to adjust this to get what you are describing

#

?

forest axle
#

1920 - 288 is 1632

#

so both of those resolutions should be 1632x1080

forest axle
#

yes, it very much can. you need to just type it in.

#

first for the base resolution, then the scaled

#

if you are having some failure doing that, then i can't reproduce it, and you'll need to describe it

gentle bear
#

lol

#

yeah, it has no way to edit it

#

let me try restarting OBS

forest axle
#

are you unable to use those fields as a text box entirely?

gentle bear
#

After restarting both OBS (which didn't fix it) and then my entire computer, NOW the fields are editable

#

1768x1080 seems close

#

but I still have some area above and below the actual capture

forest axle
#

why would you pick 1768x1080?

gentle bear
#

1610x1080 nailed it

#

well there is a lot going on

#

I finally figured out how this INSANE method is working in OBS

#

instead of doing the just utterly SIMPLE thing EVERY other app does where you have a resizable, scalable, croppable rectangle for:

  1. Your capture

  2. Your output

#

....you have this insanity where you manually type numbers in a settings area

#

AND you manually drag the capture around

#

AND you manually size the output window

#

but once I figured all that out (which I'd NEVER have been able to do without your help) I got it to work

#

I actually have the capture filling my entire screen now

#

THANK YOU!!! 🙂

forest axle
#

while i would agree that the existing "resize output to source" function should use the cropped value of the source, you also have to consider the pitfalls of other approaches

#

if the canvas was fully draggable by default, that would likely lead to many more issues for different reasons

fallen quiver
# gentle bear 1610x1080 nailed it

I’m glad this is working for you but I’m very curious, what display are you using that ended up with you needing to use such an unusual resolution?

forest axle
#

canvases are generally meant to be pretty standard size, for streaming services, or delivery elsewhere, and having them resizable just as easily as sources would be problematic

#

further, it's important to understand how the aspect ratios of content and captures can always differ, and the impacts of different solutions for dealing with those differences are vital for having a good end result

#

even though this may have been a headache for you, it forces you to understand how your content is smaller than its capture, and the impact that has on your final aspect ratio. which is very useful for understanding these sorts of issues in future

gentle bear
#

I am taking a 1920x1080 output on one computer, mirroring it to an "external monitor", then capturing that and feeding it into another computer

#

Obviously SOMETHING bizarre is going on in that process, but this capture is what I ended up needing to set that resolution for

#

Holy CRAP - after all of that, now OBS won't send the output to my display

#

SIGH

fallen quiver
gentle bear
#

Well I'm in a truly bizarre situation

#

What I'm TRYING to do ultimately is to get this capture into my Vision Pro

#

Right now, everything is working on the Mac that OBS is running on - I can see the capture, I can do either the Fullscreen projector OR the Windowed Projector and they both work

#

...but then when I view the Mac running OBS from within Vision Pro, NEITHER of those work - they give a blank screen

#

(Fullscreen Projector/Windowed Projector)

#

So, another question ....

#

I have the capture going fine within the regular OBS window

#

I can tell it to remove all the docks and that helps

#

...is there a way to get the capture in the just REGULAR OBS window to fill the entire OBS window?

forest axle
#

no. that is exactly what the fullscreen and windowed projector functions are designed to do

#

if they don't show up when mirroring a mac display inside a vision pro...that's a vision pro issue

gentle bear
#

There we go - scale to window does it

#

so now I can have it MOSTLY big enough

#

Is there a way to remove or hide this bottom section of OBS?

#

So I don't see the rows containing "No source selected" and "60.00 / 60.00 FPS"?

forest axle
#

well, you can remove that with view->status bar

gentle bear
#

ok, perfect, and also "view->Source Bar"

#

sorry, source toolbar

#

Ok, this workaround is working pretty decent now thanks to all of you

#

THANK YOU!!!

I have had Activity Monitor open and at the most it is using 20% of CPU. I have tried closing other programs, reducing the frame rate on OBS and many more things, but nothing works.

The developer of the software said he has never had anyone experience a similar issue on Chrome and is 99% it’s something to do with OBS.

And if you switch it to ultra-low latency but your internet hiccups, everybody's connection will pause — and when it comes back, the latency will be even worse

The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (30.0+) runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and higher on Intel and Apple Silicon.

Some features, such as the new macOS Screen Capture and macOS Audio Capture sources require macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.

For versions of OBS Studio compatible with prior versions of macOS, see the macOS Versions page.

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

  • (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
  • (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
    3. restart OBS Studio

I am not getting the monitor and output audio when I am calling someone on a videocall.

If I am using just OBS alone, I can hear my voice or the audio sources, but once I start a call, the people on the other side of the call hear my audio effects but not me. Has any one had this problem before?

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:

  1. Restart OBS Studio first!
  2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
  3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
  4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
  5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel

Hello everyone! I'm having some problems when using the camera effects (The native ones that show up on the bar, Portrait and studio light)
Specially when I have a second app using camera effects in addition to OBS, the system near freezes.

Obviously I turned off effects and it's working

➡️ BUT the weird part is if I launch virtual camera, then I can enable camera effects in both obs and the second app without any lag ⬅️

Is this a known problem? I've been using the same setup for about five months and I don't know if I was just lucky and hand't ran into it, or if I didn't noticed and updated OBS and the new version has a new bug. Or if it's a macos problem itself

Thanks so much. I'm not exactly looking for support, as I am able to go around the problem, but I'm trully not sure if this is new or not, if it's something fixable or something that will be fixed

Ohh I'm also using vdo.ninja and capturing some video, and I'm not sure if that's related or not but thought I should mention it

thanks again!!

forest axle
odd aspen
forest axle
#

i gotcha. so the situation is, a particular camera input, being used by two applications (OBS and another application) at the same time

#

and there's super heavy lag when you enable effects on that input?

forest axle
#

is it super heavy lag in terms of OBS output specifically? or is this more akin to general system unresponsiveness and laggy interfaces across applications?

#

or just lag on that particular input

#

like dropping frames

odd aspen
#

System unresponsiveness. And as soon as I close either OBS or the second app, performance immediately recovers

forest axle
#

that's quite odd. this is something i would definitely characterize as a macOS issue, and not an OBS issue

#

let me see if i can reproduce it

odd aspen
odd aspen
#

I can also record a video on my phone if it helps in some way

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file. Follow these instructions to upload your current log file:

  1. In OBS Studio, click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
  2. Click the Copy URL button
  3. Paste the URL into this Discord channel
forest axle
#

mostly just so i can see your system configuration, hardware, macos version, obs version, amount of memory, etc

fading hareBOT
forest axle
#

hmm

#

i can't reproduce it on my configuration, though i am on the 14.4 beta, and a different chip with more memory

#

though i don't think it's a memory thing, as none of these things use a ton, and that doesn't explain the virtual camera aspect

#

i wish i had better advice, but i think the best thing to do in this situation is to file an apple feedback and tell them about the situation. there's nothing that changes the amount of resources OBS is using when the virtual camera is on, other than it being more demanding, so i don't think there's any reasonable situation where OBS would be causing something like that to happen

#

is it OBS-specific? like, if you have the camera open in say, quicktime and facetime simultaneously, does the same slowdown occur?

odd aspen
forest axle
#

weird

odd aspen
forest axle
#

does the issue disappear only with the virtual camera active? what about other output modes like recording?

odd aspen
# forest axle weird

I know!!! because Again, this has been working without any problem for months

I've been using to record some tabletop games with friends

odd aspen
forest axle
#

given that it's OBS specific, i might actually recommend filing an issue on github

#

just so it can reach the eyes of developers who might have a better clue than myself

odd aspen
#

I would also point out again at me using vdo.ninja

I don't know if it might be related to a bug they are having or something else. But the whole weirdness of it made me reach out

forest axle
#

yeah that might be worth checking out first, does it occur without vdo.ninja in the mix at all?

odd aspen
forest axle
#

what exactly are you using vdo.ninja to do?

odd aspen
forest axle
#

gotcha. so are you sending your own camera output to vdo.ninja when the issue happens? or are you purely using it to get the feeds from your friends

odd aspen
#

Thank you so much again

forest axle
#

ah yeah, i'm sorry, i'm doing something else and i forgot you had posted a video. one sec

odd aspen
forest axle
#

thanks. i would say, try and reproduce the issue in a new scene collection, with "scene collection->new" up top. there is enough going on here that i think you need to isolate the most minimal conditions for the freezing to occur

#

because i can't say for sure whether or not vdo.ninja's activities could be at play or not (even if there aren't actual feeds coming in)

#

if you're able to do that and include that minimal case in an issue report, that would be ideal for someone to look into. because as is, i still can't reproduce it

odd aspen
#

xD Thank you so much. I'm going to bed because now I'm even more confused because as I was erasing sources until I got performance back it might have to do with the scrolling background I have. Which again I've been using for months now

it's the weirdest thing. But yes, isolating it was the right path to find out what's going on

still the virtual camera thing makes it so freaking weird! I'll try to check it again on the morning

thanks so much

forest axle
#

no problem. definitely quite a weird issue, so it'll be tricky to work through. hopefully you/we can get to the bottom of it, and yeah, definitely come back whenever if you have any other questions

odd aspen
#

One more question for me to check in the morning. Is there a guide to get "the cleanest" uninstall fresh-install possible? just to check

thanks again 🌟

forest axle
#

you don't have any plugins, so a fresh scene collection is all you need, i wouldn't worry about reinstallation or anything

Hello all.

I am working on getting a podcast going. I am using the TASCAM Mixcast 4 as my audio interface. I am using 2 microphones and OBS is picking up the audio but I am having trouble figuring out how to split the audio of Mic 1 and Mic 2.

First of all, in the preferences of the "Audio Input Capture" I am able to choose the Mixcast 4 but after that there is no setting to set Mic 1 or Mic 2 or even set them as individual tracks. In short there are no configuration options after setting the Mixcast 4 as the audio input capture device.

OBS is receiving the signal from both mics and I am able to hear my voice in the monitor headphones from both mics as well, but OBS is receiving the audio from both mics as 1 channel. I need Mic 1 and Mic 2 to be separate channels/ tracks. The reason being is that I was to switch scenes based on the volume of the mic and who is talking at the moment using Advance Scene Switcher.

How do I make separate audio tracks for each mic? Any help would be appreciated.

Whenever I open OBS, my Zoom Livetrak L-8 is not recognized on OBS, nor Loopback, nor EvMux or anything else. When I close OBS my Zoom Livetrak L-8 audio interface is recognized again. Hey guys super quick questions: I'm using my Mac Air 2020 (M1) to stream OBS. I have 3 plugins installed, Sora Multi-rtpm, advanced scene switcher, and aitum vertical. Activity Monitor says OBS is using 150%+ CPU and my Mac is getting hot. I'm pretty sure it's not always been this bad, and pretty sure thats not normal for a Mac this new. Encoding with x264 at 8000kbps and the multistreaming matches the OBS settings so it's not encoding twice or whatever. CPU usage preset is set to 'very fast' (I'm not sure what this setting does tbh). Can anyone help me out please?

So it will still just encode, even when the vertical is not itself streaming or recording?

The backtrack setting is set to when streaming/recording. So even if not live or recording specifically on vertical, it will still be activated

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:

  • Game Capture HD and HD60 are not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the Elgato Game Capture app in full screen, then capture it with a macOS Screen Capture/Window Capture source
  • HD 60S is not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the OBS Link app
  • HD 60S+, HD 60X, Cam Link are compatible with all Macs and can be captured with a Video Capture source. Make sure you are using a USB 3-compliant USB cable or adapter, connected directly to your Mac if possible

there's a few ways. you can up the "similarity" value in chroma key. you can pick a custom color besides the preset "green" under "key color type." or you can adjust the lighting in your room so that the green screen is more uniformly green and not in shadow

Hello, I need help. Not sure if this should be posted on #audio-support or in here.
I have a mac, OBS installed, I bought a cheap capture card then the elgato hd60x and I still have same problem. The audio from my iPhone 15 pro (game) is arriving OBS but poorly, I have bought as well good cables and nothing seems to work, I have tried different setups, and nothing. Does anybody knows what to do?

NOTE: I tried record with Quicktime, audio sounds good, so is not the cables, not the capture card, is probably something with OBS

@next moon

If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.

We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.

Editor functionality is not something that is currently in scope for OBS Studio development at this time. Our main development focus for OBS Studio right now is streaming and recording features.

The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (30.0+) runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and higher on Intel and Apple Silicon.
