Can anyone help, when I record it will record for a few seconds than just freeze on one the screen for the remaining of the time
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
I cant find my recordings in the folder i have it saved to
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.

Is it just one source freezing, or all three?
all 3
Does it happen after a specific period of time, or does it happen when you switch away from OBS to some other app?
it just happens randomally not rlly sure what the time it happen is
that's 13.1 which has the replayd freezing under memory pressure issue
@boreal hamlet update macOS
(that will fix it)
oki doki
hey fellas, having a problem with OBS if anyone would be keen to help, I use OBS studio on MacOS and run my desktop audio through a 2ch software (Blackhole) which allows me to get desktop audio since macbook's arent compatable with desktop audio by default, I'm pretty sure i've changed a setting or two and can't figure out how to fix it, my desktop audio doesn't work at all
https://obsproject.com/logs/gconPQo5Hzq4TNXB
So some suggestions were made last from my last log and tried streaming it became really bad with dropping audio and lag that I am going to try to restart the stream and run again to see if it helps but this problem is consistent yep bipolar, meaning it has good days and bad days. I am just trying to get some work done yet this is killing any progress... please help.

here it is again.....
need to post it after making the error happen if you want the error to be in the log
in the log you posted, the stream starts with zero issue
are talking about the the error screen shot?
yeah
because I was not able to stream to get a log
you don't need to stream to get a log
Okay well the instructions on logging says you need to stream or record so I just looked for an update on my system and updated that to see if it would fix that error.
that's if the issue happen while streaming
the point is to make the issue happen before sending log
the error was gone yet OBS lagged my whole computer now when starting up again you want that
What are you on some kind of power trip bud?
I am just trying to fix an on going issue
well lets move on from that, it was the first time it popped up
I am trying to send a log of the last attempt, although opening OBS just slows everything down, either or the problem is getting worse.

this screen shot is just from opening OBS
this is just from opening OBS I had to fight just to get the mouse to screen shot this and open a file
last time you posted, you said that sometimes you would be streaming fine with OBS at reasonable CPU use, but at some point during your stream, it would spike and you would experience lag. is that correct?
Correct, It has become exponentially worse today. the only thing different was making those changes to the screen capture suggested.
ok, then do you have a log of a stream where you did not experience lag (that was longer than 20 or so minutes)? that would offer a useful baseline to compare against and see what might be different
not recorded, no, unless we can look back.
in OBS, you can do file->open settings folder, then navigate to the logs folder, and browse past logs
I will give it a shot, when OBS is open my mouse response time is lagging at the moment.
give me some time
that's fine, reply at your leisure, support is fairly asynchronous, i usually only have time to check here every few hours anyway
I appreciate the help, I will give you what you need and try what is suggested as long as I know where to look.
Okay, so it seems that the logs only go back to the 17th for some reason I know I had OBS reinstalled but that was back in July after apple wiped my system from the stress test. If the system only saves logs when requested I guess that will be all I have at the time. the 17th was the start of the 24 hour stream you can see good spots and bad spots through out the stream. the Mac OS Screen Capture seems to add a new audio file, I don't know if this is causing it to be worse than before.
saves the last 10 logs
Trying to capture iPhone screen to OBS with audio, wired. Everywhere is telling me to use Quicktime to capture audio, but even with my phone selected as the microphone and my volume up, no audio comes through.
More a Quicktime issue, but there's no dedicated places to ask about that that I can find.
Would it be best just to Uninstall OBS and Reinstall from scratch?
the overall idea is, your computer is lagging during your stream. we don't have enough information to know if this is just a natural consequence of what you're asking your machine to do, or whether it is some other issue.
the logical thing to do would be to simplify your scenes, keep things as minimal as possible, and gather data. if you have a long, successful stream without lag, save that log.
then, if you have another stream with the same settings where things lag, save that log as well, then post both logs. that will offer data that we can act on
is it okay to upload the text files here?
yes, but ideally, make sure they represent one of the two cases i mentioned
I have the 24 hour stream this was with my original settings the stream had moments but otherwise a clean stream. I intended to push it so it would show what is causing it. right now the adjustments using Mac OS screen capture vs deprecated, window and display capture has mad the system slower. I noticed the Mac OS Screen capture is creating new audio fils and the Logs are recording the audio files as an issue. I don't need audio files from those sources just alerts from some browsers my mic and music files. so I have a lot of unnecessary audio files I can not remove. I will attache the 24 hour text file here.

some setting have changed in preferences from what I normally used the audio encoder is different now CRB was gone last week x264 was also missing last week. my settings were not like they were a few months ago. What would be the best base set up for a stream to make sure I restart with ground zero to eliminate the problem or find the problem.
Please run the OBS auto-configuration tool. To use the auto-config, click on the Tools menu in OBS, select Auto-Configuration Wizard, and then just follow the on-screen directions. You can use this tool to get a set baseline settings for your hardware, and adjust as necessary from there.
it's unlikely that macos screen capture would make your system slower than window capture. if you need to remove those audio sources, you can just mute them in the audio mixer.
i'm not sure who sent the macro above, but your actual encoder settings seem fine to me, i don't see any reason to use the auto-config given what you've told us.
i'll reiterate, but i can't keep saying the same thing. if you are claiming that sometimes these settings have no lag, and other times they do, we need evidence of that (a clean, lengthy log with no lag) to act on it.
if that isn't the case, and these settings always eventually cause lag, then what you need to do is simplify. recreate your scene collection being as minimal as possible, only using exactly what you need, minimizing filters, browser sources, redundant scenes, etc. we can't offer support on how to specifically do that, because it's a lot of work and it's specific to your needs. you also need to minimize all other sources of lag like other applications and other things that might be slowing down your machine
Right, I am going about collecting my scenes and sources then deleting the files. I am not running much and should need to run much I just draw and work on animations.
I have Muted my audio files although it seems the audio is what the logs claim is causing the GPU to stress out.
As for the (clean lengthy log) of the previous run well I cant produce them since they were not saved, otherwise I would. I hope the reinstall will allow me to produce a clean stream, currently with the changes it was way too laggy to work at all, lot's of comments from my viewers on the lag.
Maybe a clean install will help in more ways than one.
probably so. but one note, the max audio buffering and audio dropouts are not a symptom of having unneeded audio streams. that is just what happens when your CPU is overloaded in general; it often has nothing to do with the audio content itself
if your CPU is overloaded, audio processing is usually the first thing that suffers
OBS logs the CPU 15% and below, just having it open snd typing here I fluctuate 7.7% and 8.2% Kernal Task and OBS are the main consumers in my activity monitor when I first incurred this problem. I will pull it up and screen shot the activity monitor on my next test.
if kernel_task is taking up large amount of CPU during your streams, then you're probably hitting thermal limits; your computer is getting too hot and so kernel_task slows it down
This is why I sent it to apple first to see what was wrong, they stress tested it for 48 hours and had no issues, then did a fresh install of the OS.
OBS just sitting there is 115% CPU.
that's % of a single core, so that is not actually dramatically high usage
I hear a lot about issues with OBS and Apple in blogs and forums Including from Subscribers saying it is slowing down their systems and having their fan run in overtime. Is the software just not designed well for Mac OS. According to the forums this is the reason why. I will try other test this week, but I hope to get this working I have finish a piece by the 26th for a gallery and these delays are killing progress by consuming my whole day.
what OBS does is computationally expensive no matter what, and it's hard to do it any more efficiently than OBS already does it. i've offered you multiple avenues for troubleshooting and resolving your issue. i suggest you read back through and follow some of the advice i've provided instead of just restating your problem over and over
I think you are misunderstanding my asking questions as restating the problem over and over. I am only trying to tie up loose ends in my understanding of the whole picture through my previous troubleshooting. It's not like you are here experiencing the problem to know exactly what is going on. You can only assume based off previous encounters and what a programed analyzed log suggest.
I am in fact doing what you suggested as we are having this discussion just making sure all my setting are organized before I wipe it down and create cleaner scenes and sources to.
So for me to take care of the problem on my own I need ask questions... It's called effective communication...
I think, there may be lead where your brains should be.
they gave you a pretty good explanation and I will affirm them when they say the single core percentage is not that high. If it was 100% your entire mac, then we might have to have a talk about you having dud hardware.
No matter what you do its going to use system resources
pretty sure there's no need to be rude about it
I'm not the one being rude at this point, constantly arguing the same point after your problem has been explained is just dense
There was no arguing just asking questions and clarifacation... mind your manners...
to be fair, a cross-platform application can rarely be as efficient as a native one, so we do leave some efficiency on the table and because we rely on Qt and CEF which are both far from efficient on macOS there's an additional penalty - hiding the preview and minimising the OBS window both get you measurable performance improvements on lower-end mac hardware to this day because of that
but those are gains on the margins, it's not like there are massive efficiency gains to be had there, the renderer and encoder parts are very lean
everything around libobs is written in C and pretty straight-forward, so I'd be hard pressed to find ways to find noticeable gains there
And personally, some of the macOS changes recently, especially for Apple Silicon and if you use the hardware encoder in settings have gained masses of performance. i can't even remember the last time I heard a fan or got a CPU warning when using OBS. And if I did, it was because I was creating a screencast on something that was a resource hog in its own right.
I can't see if my question posted. Apologies if this has come through twice.
Hello. I don't think this is a MacOS only thing. Is there a way to change the URL in a browser source via some external means (e.g. Companion, some API call)? I would like to dynamically change arguments provided to the URL. At the moment I've ended up having a small web server running as a separate process in a shell. I have companion write the new "arguments" to a text file, then refresh the browser source with the new arguments being read from the text file by a Javascript function. This works fine, but seems like a bad way to do it. I've searched for a few hours to try to find a better approach, but have come up empty. BTW - first time posting here. Feel free to direct me to a more approriate place if this isn't where I should be asking this question.
Probably more of a #plugins-and-tools question

OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
Hi, I am trying to screen record my screen and audio, and yet the desktop audio is not being picked up. The slider is picking up no volume, and when i go to select my device only the default option is there and not my macbook speakers or headphones that are plugged in. How can i fix this?! Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to capture te image from my PC into my OBS in my Mac by using a video capture devices but when I try to add it it dosen´t appeare.
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide

oh, the device doesn't appear in the list in OBS?
Yes, exactly, i can't send an image but when y add a video capture device and try to select my video capture device, it dose not appear
what model/brand is it
Mirabox HSVHD BOX
I know it work because I use to use it with my play station and a windows PC but now that i want to capture the image from the windows pc into my mac it dose not work
yeah, but mac can be a bit more touchy
You are trying to say that i need to change my video capture device 😭
no
it's UVC, so normally there shouldn't be shenanigans. does it appear in any other software?
How can i check that ?
Nop, it dose not appeare
I don't know if the problem is because de HDMI por of the MacBook Laptop is online for output video and dose not recognize input
the HDMI port?
yes
the capture card should be connected to the mac through usb, not hdmi
Yes but also it should be conected by HDMI, like the out cable from the video capture device should be conected via HDMI to de mac no ?
What !! I have been understanding video capture devices wrong my all my life jajaja
I thought USB was to power up the video capture device
So then i will have to wait until i recibe my USB c to USB adaptor so i can test it because my mac only hace usbc port
Thanks you so much for your help, really

is there a way to get 60 fps video recording through obs with my dslr?
I only see 30 fps
???
Hello I am having trouble with macOS screen capture lagging.
This will probably depend on your capture device, what do you have and does it support 60fps?
Hi there guys. Of late my OBS has started to have a massive growing "enconding lag" everytime I just change between a scene. It is as if it was holding until I moved anything... then BANG... CPU goes to 700+ and the lag starts pouring.
Anyone familiar with this problem?

It would easily get to 80-99 and eventually crash.
Important, this just like "starts" increasing after I do a few scene changes. As long as I stay put, it is all good.
Looks like if I scene calls for a Video (in loop) component, the leak starts and the CPU gets crzay
which one, the one you switch from or the one you switch to?
The one I switch to.
But in further testing, it looks like just changing scenes is bringing about the trouble anyway. Funny thing is I don't remember changing anything in my setup and that problem was not there. 😦 Thanks a lot for the help by the way.
!newsc
does it happen on a new and completely empty scene collection?
For testing purposes, you should create a new, empty scene collection. This will allow you to focus on the testing the specific sources that are suspected to have issues.
To create a new scene collection:
1. Click on the Scene Collection menu → New
2. Name the new collection "Testing"
3. In this new scene collection, add the sources that are suspected to have issues
Testing
as in, create a new scene collection, create two scenes with no sources in either and test with that
Funny thing is this 600 CPU...
Ok, so.,.. once the problem starts even once, I must do a full restart for OBS to behave normally again
Now I will try to create a brand new scene, start streaming and move there.
Created a brand new one... all good... empty ... let me add stuff..... yup...
still does the same?
Im on the new scene with bare bpnues
now I will change within it to another
Notice I'm speaking of scene, not scene collections
Obs now shows 422 CPU and until now no leakaje
Looks like I will have to trash my old scenes then? Can someone "corrupt" a scene?
can but likely not your issue.
create a duplicate of the original, then remove sources till you find the ones causing the issue
Thanks a lot Penwyvern.
found the one?
Worst case I got this bare bones oone to finish the campaign... of course these troubles had to appear on that very last day of the stream. 😄
I will start checking now. The videos are all out... now I will see what else is causing it
Alright, I will check htese
Interestings... I took the NDI camera out and the said video file from everywhere... now it is good!
I had it before, I deleted it before even starting here because it was the first one I noticed started the troul
And I deleted the plugin, althouhg It still shows here in the tools bar, but not as an option for a source
Ok, my scene is uglier but working. We will be able to finish that Spelljammer campaign elegantly.
👍
Guys is possible to stream with a MacBook pro early 2015? When i open obs all freezes 😦
Please manually upload your log file.
(Windows)
- Press WinKey+R to open the Run dialog
- Paste the following into the box and hit OK:
%APPDATA%\obs-studio\logs - Find the desired log file (usually the latest) and drag/drop it into this channel.
Linux logs: ~/.config/obs-studio/logs
macOS logs: ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/logs
Hey all, you probably get this question frequently but I really need some help with the virtual camera.
I have a 2022 Macbook Air, and am trying to use the virtual camera to play Magic The Gathering on a website called Spelltable. The website does not have a listed source called "OBS Studio" as many other tutorials show it should, but am following all the steps.
I start the virtual camera, setup the window capture, and it just is not showing the source.
Please if anyone could help! Ask me any questions for any other info to help troubleshoot.
could be worth trying the 30.0 beta, which has the vcam rework
yeah, i'd recommend either using chrome for your browser, or trying obs 30
@analog turret
okie i have broblem
if you detail the broblem, we might find a sislution
Is it possible to use OBS with macOS 10.15.17
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher.
- if you use an older version of macOS, you may see the "corrupted image" message (A). To solve this, download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see this symbol (B), download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
alright i clicked download for the catilina version because thats what i have to use but it took me to git hub... i how do i proceed? i dont know much about github
scroll down at the bottom of the page it brought you to and there'll be downloads
no

Hello! I’m using OBS on a M1 Mac Mini to capture PS5 gameplay at 1080p 60fps and I’m running into issues. First, the gameplay isn’t being captured at 60fps. Second, the picture is pretty dark through OBS. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!
what capture card are you using?
Whoops! The HD60X
do you have an example clip?
the frame stutter issues are something people frequently experience with the HD60X on macOS, and i don't think there's any known solution, as far as anyone knows its an issue with the card apparently
as far as the darkness, we should see a log to make sure your OBS color settings are correct:
!maclog
assuming your color settings are correct, you'll likely have to make sure that the card is set to expect and output partial rather than full color range, and make sure that the color output from your console agrees with that value as well
if you're playing with HDR or something, expect issues with color as well
Would a different external capture card work better? I’m open to anything that will actually output a consistent 60fps.
That’s probably it. I have HDR on.
makes sense
i can't recommend one specifically, since my workflow doesn't involve capture cards. i would look at things made by the higher end manufacturers though, like blackmagic or even magewell
it's probably worth at least reaching out to elgato as well, too; this has been a persistent issue for awhile and most folks don't notice since it's comparatively minor. it may also be worth doing test recordings in e.g. quicktime to verify that the issue is actually with the card and not with OBS. as far as i know, no one has actually done a deep investigation into it
Greetings, I am a rookie user with a MacBook Air (with updates) and after setting up all of my video and audio settings I press record and the program shuts down. Help!
@plucky zenith Hi! as u might remember i was having trouble with OBS earlier. I tried to download one for the version i thought was correct though it still was incompatible. Im now trying to download the mojave version. I'm now in github and i dont see the same options from before... I could use some help!
click on the apple icon in the top left of your screen then on "about this mac" and show me a screenshot of the window that comes up
np I've got time
alr thank u ill let u know if i run iinto any other problems 😃
don't hesitate
is it crashing? if so:
A crash log is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash log.
- In Finder, click the Go menu
- Select Go To Folder, and type in `~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/`
- Upload the file prefixed `OBS_` with the most recent date (format is year-month-day)
@plucky zenith I'm sry to bother u agian but even w/ the link u provided im still geting a error messege
@plucky zenith idk why but it still says that my macs outdated
Please provide the full text of the error message. Press Alt+PrtScr while the error window is selected to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into this chat window.
wait i think i open wring thing
wrong
it might be my mistake
YES IT WORKED THANK U SO MUCH

Plays here but not on my monitor
Anyone on who can help?
When you say "plays here but not on my monitor", what are you referring to?
I got it
tysm everything is working great thanks to you.
im just plugging my camera into my mac via mini usb
and sourcing eos webcam utility pro
Hello, everyone. I would greatly appreciate some help. Every time I try to use OBS as a virtual cam, my webcam I'm using freezes.
Anyone know of a fix for this? I'm using the EOS webcam utility, if that helps.
I am not sure about EOS, but I know that a lot of the default camera software is often not well supported on macOS, so it might be worth checking it can handle 6ofps on macOS
Yesterday I posted about not getting 60fps capture footage using a HD60x on a M1 Mac Mini. Today I tried using the NZXT Signal 4K30 with the same results. Would anyone be willing to take some time to try to help me figure out why I can’t get a consistent 60fps?
Hi there guys, me again. 🙂 I managed to have my stream running and I'm pretty happy about it. Still, I see the problem with the broken sources is still there and now it is pretty mean: even trying to remove the broken source crashes OBS. And as long as the broken souorce is there, I can't change to another scene collection, a working one.
Is there a way to change which Scene OBS will open upon launching BEFORE we open it?
don't remember the whole thing, but you have a broken source in your scene collection that you want to remove?
Yup. Only when a broken source is not there in any scene does OBS enable me to change from the current Scene Collection to a working one.
By the way I discovered the main culprit for 29.1.3 was the Vertical Plugin from
these guys. All those scenes had to be killed.
!params
the answer to that is yes, with launch parameters.
But if you go in scene collection > export, and give me the file it creates, as well as tell me which source ought to be removed, I can manually remove it from the scene collection file
To launch OBS Studio with custom parameters, see the list of Launch Parameters.
I will try it here @plucky zenith tx in advance!
Alright. That worked. And in another scene I managed to just plain delete, it crhased BUT saved the deletion and afterwards it was ko.
Ok
Looks like I will need to hunt for the broken sources in all my collections and go repairing one by one...
👍 if you have issues doing it in the GUI, hmu and give me the scene collection file and I'll remove it for you
IIt is mostly wokring. only very rarely is it crashing now. But like I said, the deletion stands.
Whoa... now it was different! I deleted and it crahsed and upon reload it chose, withuot me telling to, ANOTHER scene collection, and that one I was working on is now impossible to open.
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
DEleting manually corrected it.... wow... learning. 🙂
you deffo have some highly weird shit
Yeah. But I must admit just having this place here and such helpful people like yourself already helps a lot.
So... looks like my two main collections are working agian... hope to not enerve you guys further. Have a nice weekend!
nah, dw, we're here to help, never hesitate to pop in if you need to
im trying to install the latest version of obs but it requires macos version 11.0 and i have 10.13.6 right now and ive looked nearly everywhere to find a way to update my version like checking the appstore and such but i never have an option to update my mac, is there other ways to update your mac or download older versions of obs?
Hey all, I am trying to get websocket working with the current versions of OBS and Companion. I had previously installed the plugin, which is now in the installer since version 28 apparently. I am getting the error: "Bad Configuration
Outdated websocket plugin". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone know if there’s a fix for the virtual cam freezing issue on Mac?
hey as a heads up the twitch side issue is still happening for us. still see a white window when trying to connect to twitch through OBS
saw a message saying they were fixing it on their end and to msg here if it was still a problem

why is obs stops streaming i use screen share between two my macs
Okay, so I've found out virtual camera only freezes once I grant permissions for FireFox to use my OBS virtual cam as my webcam in StreamYard.
im trying to install the latest version of obs but it requires macos version 11.0 and i have 10.13.6 right now and ive looked nearly everywhere to find a way to update my version like checking the appstore and such but i never have an option to update my mac, is there other ways to update your mac or download older versions of obs?
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher.
- if you use an older version of macOS, you may see the "corrupted image" message (A). To solve this, download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see this symbol (B), download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the audio working inside OBS. I'm on a Mac Powerbook M1 running Ventura 13.4.1. I have OBS version 29.1.3, and I have installed and configured blackhole 2h according to instructions I found on the obs website, including setting up a multi-output device. My headphones still work, but I get no sound in OBS, and the desktop audio in the audio mixer is not showing any activity. When I go to System Preferences, and set the output to Multi-Ouput Device, the volume and mute controls are disabled. If I add my Powerbook Speakers and make them the Master, I not only hear sound through the speakers but also through my headphones, and the sound in the headphones has a lag to it. I must be missing something.
!audio
OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
@real lagoon see above
yeah, on ventura, honestly, use the screen capture source, fuck blackhole
(for the future, it's !macaudio btw)
its one of those things I know exists but I dont do it quite often enough to have it in memory 🙂
yeah fair XD.
just in case, you know where to find the commands?
someone also showed me once 🙂
A list of commands can be found here: https://obsbot.rodney.io/
👍
To be clear, I do not need a virtual audio driver in Ventura?
yup
on ventura and later, OBS can directly capture audio from either the whole computer, or specific application, by using the screen capture source
Thank you.
hi ive got a question
im on macos is there a way for me to have profiles?
@plucky zenith
please don't ping folks who you aren't already actively talking to, but yeah, do that
um its not there
Why doesn't my virtual camera input show up in Discord?
can you take a screenshot?
OBS Studio contains a virtual camera that allows you to output your scenes' video to application such as Discord, Skype, etc. To learn how to use this feature, see the following guides:
- Virtual Camera Guide for basic setup instructions
- Video Call Streaming Tutorial to set up virtual audio in addition to video
- Virtual Camera Troubleshooting for installation and removal instructions
See the third link @lapis grove ^
it's right there, along the top bar, where it says "profile"
Okay I've tried all those things and nothing works. Oh well.
that's also quite an old version. i'm not sure what version of macOS you're on but you may want to update OBS
!macversions

if you're on mojave, you're on the correct version. if you're on catalina, you can update 👍
What did you try, and what did not work?
ok thx
The TLDR is, unless you’re using the Beta of OBS 30 (see #beta-testing-30-archive), you need to use Discord in Chrome
I have the latest OBS studio running. I have a scene set up correctly. I've started the virtual camera. It does not show up as an input.
Anyone know why Virtual Cam freezes when I start it?
I'm trying to use it as a webcam source on StreamYArd
It doesn't show up in Chrome either. But okay. I'll try to install the beta.
hi
can somone help me
i dont know how to show my screen
And after i record i dont know where it goes
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.
To learn about the various sources and how they work in OBS Studio, see the Sources Guide.
I swear this was working before, but I just updated OBS and now hwne I turn on Virtual Camera, and then open a program (like photo booth) and tell it to use the virtual camera, all I see is the OBS logo and the "camera with a slash through it" icon at the bottom. The button in OBS is blue and now says "Stop Virtual Camera". If anyone can help, thank you. 29.1.3 64 intel macos. -- I see the video in OBS as expected, it's just not making it to the other app
I'll try reboot... brb.
reboot mostly fixed it. photo booth crashes now, but other programs work
thanks 🙂
hello together
Glad to be here and ask you a few questions. I'm a musician and I'm trying to build a YouTube channel for teaching videos on the piano. I want to need an external app for OBS and all the tutorials on YouTube have the window display for this. the Works bi me not, I can not select a source. Do you have any idea how else I can do this? thanks for the answer
im trying to save my profiles and when i do the sources dont save
sources are saved as part of scene collections not profiles
yo annyone know how to add discord audio on mac its so annoying its taking me far too long that ive come to this discord server💀
hello????
i need help please
helllllllllooooooo????????? this chat is dead
You have to be patient. When someone is online who knows how to help AND is available, they will reply. Chat isn't dead; there are less people who use OBS on Macs than there are on Windows.
mb👽
sorry but i have like 2 hours to record something before i have to leave and i wanan do it quick👽
and my friends waiting for me rn too.👽
Then please don't use that as an excuse for being impatient and rude. It's all volunteer support here. Go over the Mac Guide for application audio capture. Make sure a step wasn't skipped. Audio can be frustrating. More so when there are differences in how each operating system handles it. Review the guide while you are waiting for a response.
sorry👽👽👽👽👽👽
i did all the steps in order its just that when i press application it dosent show discord
yo i know you told me to be patient but i got like no time can help me? please
LETS GO THE DISCORD AUDIO WORK
THANKS NERD!!!!11!!!!!111!!!111!11😤
Good morning
I was wondering if somone can help me idk if someone already ansered this question but im on mac book air and idk how to show my camra is somone can just help me.
im having this one problem trying to use obs on mac, sometimes it just freezes on a singular frame and i wouldn't know about it until i tab into obs to finish recording
what version of macos are you on?
ventura, 13.5
gotcha. yeah unfortunately that's a macOS issue. you should file a feedback with them
to restart a capture, you have to open activity monitor and force quit the replayd process
restart a capture?
to unfreeze it
i'm surprised that fixes it
also file a feedback w/ who, apple?
don't worry it is fine!!
i don't know what is causing this but i think. it is because i launched an intel app?? because in the recording i made it froze as i opened an intel app under rosetta 2
that's interesting. as far as i know there has not been a specific way to reproduce that issue. if that consistently causes the freeze, i'm sure apple will love to hear about it
maybe! i'd have to look into it more and see if it actually is the cause
other times i found it froze because it was just open for too long (seemingly)
it used to be caused by lower RAM availability, but apple fixed that, or at least provided a fix that made it more rare
Newbie question here. I have been using Quicktime Player to make a Movie recording using an iPhone as an OBS camera (using the OBS Camera app on the iPhone) and a Focusrite 2i2 USB audio interface for audio and a mic plugged in there. This works but I want more control of the audio: higher levels in the recorded video. Is there a place to go to learn the best way to switch to OBS Studio for this? I am not interested in streaming at this time but I may be later. My internet sleuthing hasn't found the quintessential recording for making this happen. I am still using the latest version of Monterey on a 2019 Macbook Pro with 64GBs of memory.
you could certainly accomplish this with OBS. i'd recommend trying it out. here are some helpful resources for getting started with OBS:
✨ If you're new to OBS Studio:
- follow the Quick Start Guide to set up your first scene and get streaming/recording
- learn more about the interface in the Overview Guide
- follow the Stream Layout Tutorial series to create a stream-friendly layout, including setting up alerts and a chat box

Does the iOS app OBS Camera work to set up a the video part of a scene?
there is an obs plugin for obs camera available, yes. if you have macos 13 and ios 16, however, you can use continuity camera and achieve the same goal without the use of any apps or plugins
So maybe a reason to upgrade to Ventura then
yeah. ventura has other things like macos screen capture which are very useful, probably a good idea to upgrade to ventura if you want to use OBS
hii
I need help
I can't change this
I need it to be so it doesn't go to a .mkv file because it's not compatible with Adobe
if you can't modify your output settings its because you have a currently active output
oh how do I change that
oh tysm for the help :3
Having problems with my settings for live streaming to YouTube. I have a MacBook Pro and I keep getting unspecified errors when going live. I’ve been trying to fix this 20 second delay for a week now.
20 second delay doesn't sound like much, for YouTube
I only have a 5 second delay when using streamyard and that’s the free version
can an dev pls help my cus my obs is not working and i tried everiting
Please describe what issue you're having
my obs is not starting up
Do you see a crash dialogue when that happens?
Or does the icon just bounce up and down for a while, then stop?
can we maybe just hop in an cal and i wil share my screen
whats an app that you can use to see your recordings
If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.
We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.
👋
quick question regarding the latest version of OBS.
my OBS tells me I'm up to date.
but CleanMyMac tells me I can update to 30.0
which one is true?
and whats the ETA?
Whatever CleanMyMac are doing is just wrong
When it’s ready
You can try the beta if you want
!beta
OBS Studio 30.0 Beta is now out! More details can be found here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-30-beta.168984/
I wouldn’t do it via CleanMyMac though, on the evidence that they are showing it as released I wouldn’t trust them
I've been mkv -> mp4 remuxing, and now I'm trying to switch to automatic mp4 file splitting. I've turned it on and recorded some test footage (splitting every minute) but it's not splitting anything. Is there something else i need to be doing? Maybe with the filename setting?
Which encoder are you using? And could you send a log file?
Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder
And let me do a quick test capture and generate logs for you
@warped mica I have dm'd you with the logs
That's a clean run, 2:30 seconds captured. No errors, recording to mp4, while the automatic file splitting was enabled, and configured to split once a minute.
I would have expected three files out on the other side of this, but i only got the one mp4. [Edit for clarity] The length of that mp4 is 2:34
Thanks, will take a look in a bit
Hello guys, can someone confirm that OBS supports Presenter Overlay on MacOs Sonoma ?
Hello, I'm a Mac user, and there's a bit of a problem. I've been trying to stream on Youtube with OBS, but every time I try to go live, I get a message reading "Failed to connect to server; The RTMP server sent an invalid SSL certificate." I've checked everything, used a stream key instead of connecting my account to see if that works, but nothing seems to be working. I'm up to date on all of the necessary software, but it still isn't working.
Someone please help me with this, I don't want to have to go back to Twitch with its lack of algorithm!
Hello, can someone help me solve the frozen screen mirror on OBS. I use iMac and I mirror my phone using Quicktime player. The minimize is perfect. But, when I choose the full screen it will freeze the entire screen.
I'm trying to add a Bongo cat webcam plugin and where and how do I put it in to get in installed to obs studio?
this plugin : https://github.com/a1928370421/Bongobs-Cat-Plugin/ ?
yeah
that's windows-only afaik
oh
it dosent let mr turn on my cam
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
- Non-Standard Aspect Ratio
- macOS 12.6 (OK)
- No Output Session
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i9-9980HK @ 2.40GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 5500M - OK!
Question which one do i download
Do you have an Intel Mac or a Silicon Mac?
that would be the one you would download
Trying to use the obs camera plugin with my iPhone XS. The iOS app works with QuickTime Player. But I am not seeing video in OBS. Running Monterey on an Intel Mac
click on the apple icon on the top left of your screen then on "about this mac"
take a screenshot of that and post it here if you don't mind
Mine is silicon
then download silicon
Alr thank you guys
I did install the plugin before trying
i think you'll have to contact the plugin maker about this, not much we can do without knowing what the plugin is doing
But isn't this your plugin?
obs is indeed loading the plugin correctly, i dont know why it wouldn't see your phone
How do I remove the plugin?
nope, plugins are made by people outside OBS generally, you can seek support wherever you found the plugin
file->show settings folder, then navigate to the plugins folder, then just trash whichever folder
I will try removing the plugin I guess
you could also try #plugins-and-tools, but with this specific issue it'll be tough. i'd recommend updating to ventura to use continuity camera instead
Without the plugin then the iOS Camera video source candidate is not offered for selection. So with Monterey I am stuck and with Ventura I won't be stuck because the continuity camera feature is Mac based?
Correct it’s a built in feature
Well, this plugin used to work: https://obs.camera/docs/getting-started/ios-camera-plugin-usb/
obs.camera is this product's site, right?
Ah, no it isn't -- sorry
what products site? The website of OBS is https://obsproject.com
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.
Turns out there are two apps in the iOS app store that have obs camera in the title. I found another one and this one passes the video through from the iPhone but the free version puts a watermark on the feed from the iPhone and wants to charge $10.95 a month to get rid of the watermark.
Sheesh
The other plugin does not work with OBS Studio but passes the video into QuickTime Player when you elect to make a Movie Recording.
@warped mica were you able to see what I was talking about re: automatic file splitting? The logs don't really seem to show any issues but something is going on. Should I open a GH issue?
i have a suspicion, would be be able to share a recording file of the non-split recording (that's supposed to be split)?
Yeah I have it here, it's 320mb, how do you want to get it?
dm'd you a google drive link
I'm taking a look
@deft tide It looks like my suspicion is correct. The video doesn't have any keyframes, besides the first one. That's not caused by file splitting, but file splitting splits at the next keyframe so if there's none it never does.
I've seen this a couple times before, probably a bug with the hardware encoder. Could you try if changing to x264 "fixes" the problem?
the videotoolbox classic
yup :/
is user on intel or AS? none of their logs are in here
intel
the double classic
i couldn't make hide or hair of VT's CRF auto keyframe placements on AS when i took rodney's training wheels off of it, setting the exact same settings in a clean implementation led to different behavior. very weird issue
on mine it puts keyframes every 32 frames exactly
on AS
which also seems incorrect
seems to be every 31 to me
oh, perhaps i miscounted :p
that said, I'd argue for things like replay buffer or file splitting that's better than every 10 seconds
which is what the "training wheels" make it do
yeah 2-5 seems more reasonable. in my clean room VT implementation, auto keyframe puts them every 2-3 seconds which seems intended
i have absolutely no idea what makes OBS different
Video encoders are allowed to generate key frames more frequently if doing so results in more efficient compression.
This confuses me
If we set the 10s, it sets a keyframe exactly every 10 seconds
if we set it to auto, it sets them way more often
if the docs are correct here, it should be allowed to set them more often even if we specify the 10 seconds
but for some reason it doesn't do so
hmm
i actually have an odd idea
which is incomplete, but your pointing out the 31 number made me think of it
31 is the size of the rotating buffer that the system uses to store frames in. i noticed this when i had a problem in my own app, i was accidentally holding onto the references to frames, which VT did not like, so it would send me exactly 31 frames and then die
i wonder if something isn't being released* correctly
Switching to cpu encoder does allow for filesplitting to work again, yes. I can't use it while streaming though, my current setup is to run the stream on cpu encoding, and then use hardware encoding for writing a higher bitrate to disk. Trying to use the same encoder for both either sacrifices my bitrate or causes "encoder overload" errors. I'm open to alternative approaches, but going CPU for the stream and GPU for the files was where I landed.
Is there a known workaround for the VT encoder that resolves the keyframing issue?
you should be able to set an explicit keyframe value (e.g. 2) and it should work
unless you were already doing that; i haven't seen your log
I was not, I didn't realize that they'd be related at all. I'll give that a shot, stand by.
I just saw a split occur. Huge, thank you.
So if i'm understanding correctly, the automatic file splitting occurs only at keyframe breaks, but there is a known quirk of Apple's VT encoders where setting them to "Auto" keyframes (the default) means they never create additional keyframes past the initial one.
no more keyframes means no opportunity to split. That right?
correct
Wild. Out of curiosity, what is a "keyframe" in relation to the mp4 file? Is it like... a chunk boundry?
it's a frame of the vidoe that's encoded in its entirety, so it doesn't depend on any information in frames before or ahead of it in order to be decoded
This makes so much sense.
it wouldn't make sense to have a video without any keyframes, hence the inability to split
@warped mica i'm looking at get_cached_pixel_buffer now and wondering if the comment there about color spaces not being set could in fact be related. could the system be creating a new buffer pool every 31 frames for some reason?
I just captured like, 8 hours of footage on VT yesterday, and the file was absolutely unusable. I had to break it up into smaller (30 min) files with ffmpeg, and reencode them. The further along the monolithic file I tried to view, or re-encode, the slower and the more errorprone the experience.
that's the same cause
Right, that's what I'm saying. You've enlightened me.
i can't figure it out
i also tried looking at the hotkeys issue again, which naturally doesn't occur in the debugger, and my head began to hurt
Hey, I am from macbook and i have a problem. I've been using obs for omegle and it was working all fine, but now when I tried to use the virtual camera It only appears me this option: OBS virtual camera (m-de:vice), and it doesn't work
I really hope someone can help me. I am pretty smart and technical, and I am LOST.
I had this working last week, today I tried to stream and my xbox series x with the same setup suddenly showed this strange soft glow in OBS. It happens if I am not streaming just looking at the regular app and input.
The input is smooth, it works fine, but it seems to pulse this soft glow everywhere on the entire image
At its worst it looks like this
at its best, it shows clear spots, but again it is just cloudy, milky blurry.
Like in the area outlined in red, for example.
This does NOT happen in quicktime
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
open control center near the top right, your capture card input has a portrait effect on it
We have a command for this
if someone can help me i'll appreciate it
Pls
OMG..
no way, did i actually not disable that?
If that is the case, I am completely stupid.
Man... i knew it had to be something:
- Very specific to MacOS
- Very simple
Btw... if anyone has no audio, I figured on my own that this was the MacOS noise isolation that was causing THAT.
Why did I not catch this?!
because macOS doesn't tell you what it's doing 😛
i wouldn't blame yourself, i'd file a feedback with apple
Yea, MacOS is the biggest hinderance to the Mac. It gets iteratively better each release. Beta of 17 seems solid, but won't install it on my studio computer yet.
I am still shocked how good the built in stuff like noise isolation is. I record and stream with the mic not even four feet from an in window air conditioner and it is perfect.
Try a different browser like Firefox (not chrome based), if the same problem exist, it is an OBS problem. Otherwise the problem is in Chrome. You could try safari for example.
I've tried safari and it doesn't work
And now i tried in firefox but it didn't appeared the option to change camera
Only the facetime one
I believe you change the camera in the browser's settings/preferences window
For example, in Chrome
That's chrome://settings/content/camera
So here are the logs from my last stream, I went bare bones on set up and it went fine for a bit as long as I had OBS out of studio mode and hidden, minimized. OBS ended up failing the same way with loss of audio, camera freezing and the usual lagging after some time. Although I streamed long enough to give you enough good data and bad data.... I was surprised how effective minimizing OBS was, Although my Macbook is not a lower end Macbook, not an Mchip set but very capable for handling intensive video editing and compositing up to 8k video, I find it odd OBS can cause it this much stress...

Wait wait, you're streaming to Twitch, yeah?
4500 kbps is a bit on the low side for 1080p@60fps. Unless you're streaming mainly static content?
hello together
does anyone here know about an app called Chordieapp and how I can make it usable in OBS?
Thanks for an answer
When you say "usable in OBS", what do you mean?
What I mean is that I can't use this app with OBS.
All people use an older version of OBS with window Capture...
i need the vitual keyboard for my business 🙂
What version of macOS do you have?
I am 1080p @30fps, I am not playing games just drawing and working on animations. I was doing a test while trying to get a project finished for a deadline, so a clean stream without lag was important. I tend to have more features but I wanted to test how the problem still occurs with little assets and low settings. Would you like me to make a test at what your idea of bare bones is? let me know what to set it to and I can try that
The browser sources you are asking about are the alerts such as blerp and streamlabs I have no other browser sources, my scenes are either gif or pngs I created and add as a source file.
I am streaming to twitch.

That’s not macOS though, isn’t it?
OH SNAP my b!!
No worries 😄

Hello does anyone know how to setup a virtualenv as the Python env for OBS on Mac?
I had a lot of trouble with the correct folder structure for OBS to read my Python and ended up using my base brew Python folder: /opt/homebrew/Cellar/python@3.11/3.11.5/Frameworks
Is there a way to use a local virtualenv folder? When I tried setting it to ~/example_dir/venv it didn't work
you cannot use virtual environments, because they provide site-packages and symlinked python binary, but we don't use the binary to run python - we load the framework directly
hence you need to provide a directory containing a valid python framework
Thanks for confirming this, I thought so
I ended up choosing https://github.com/aatikturk/obsws-python which allows me to still use a venv
yeah remote control via websockets is probably safer than using scripts directly in OBS anyway
or do I have to Facetime myself to get the fancy "bubble" 🤣 ?
Hey can anyone help me resetup my Evga capture card because idk what's going on but I'm trying to stream on OBS and everything is set up as it should I think but everytime I step into Obs my game that I have on the capture video freezes immediately but my camera doesn't freeze and sometimes when I try to change the resolution or graphics it takes my mouse cursor away and in stuck in OBs and have to turn my pc off fully and another weird thing is when I turn my camera off and on it takes away my mouse cursor
we haven't implemented anything for that, so it depends on how macOS takes care of compositing these things
Hi guys! This might be a basic question that I'm just missing somewhere in googling, but I can't figure it out.
I have been recording myself on OBS for a podcast. It's a pretty standard recording (MPEG-4 AAC, H.264, and 2600x 1600 (not sure why it wasn't 1920X1080, but whatever).
I've used both my laptop camera and my canon via cam nova, and the playback on this has been so weird.
It takes FOREVER to load. I'm assuming it is not dropped frames, because if i give it like 5 minutes to load, it'll scrub through. The moment I pause and try to replay it, even if it's had time to reload, it takes awhile to start playing again. Premier is having a hard time exporting it.
I didn't have this problem before and it was the same studio recording settings, I believe, but it was on a previous OBS version.
I'm going to try putting it through handbrake today, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Specs: 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9; AMD Radeon Pro 5600M 8 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB; 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
probably the VT keyframe issue
@timid jungle i'd set an explicit keyframe interval in your encoder settings, like 2, and see if the issue persists
Okay! Just changed it, will give it a try. Would exporting the video through handbrake help at all?
mp4
for your existing borked video, it might be able to process it in a way that will make it usable; i'm not sure. in the future, if you use a keyframe interval, there shouldn't be any need for any post processing including handbrake
Sounds good! I'll try the keyframe interval and see 🙂 Thank you so much@
effects are in control of the user, including camera and mic effects; what would the FB be asking?
i'm not that user, but, currently, the effects applied to a video capture input are persisted across all capture inputs. this seems pretty obviously undesirable
yes, there is only one actual input coming into the system
if i apply effects to one video capture input, and then i plug in an entirely separate video capture input, i wouldn't expect the same effects to be applied
ah, you mean multiple inputs having different effects
but the system could surely disambiguate devices if it wanted to?
I thought you mean two captures of the same stream
nah i mean two entirely separate devices
not even talking at the same time, since i don't know how that works
Yep, but it didnt appeared that option: Obs Virtual Camera. It appears: OBS Virtual camera (m-de:vice), and it doesn't work
In what browser?
Doesn't happen, I start the virtual camera and it only uses the facetime hd one
seems like if you have two simultaneous inputs, they can handle different effects correctly. but for example:
- open quicktime movie recording
- select facetime camera input, in top menu bar apply effect
- exit quicktime
- plug in external camera / capture card
- open quicktime movie recording, select external camera/capture card
- that effect is applied to the new input
that seems like the incorrect thing. this isn't my specific issue, but let me know if you want me to file a FB and i can
I'm fairly certain I've seen a FB about it already somewhere but feel free to log, I understand the distinction between what exists and what you are asking
Anyone know every time I add my camera after my gameplay to obs why does the gameplay freeze but no the camera?
I need help setting up my gameplay can anyone help?
OK. My suggestion would be to try the OBS Studio 30 beta. You can get the link in #beta-testing-30-archive
What issue are you having?
Thank you, I will try
Ok, I tried with the beta intel one: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/download/30.0.0-beta2/OBS-Studio-30.0.0-beta2-macOS-Intel.dmg, and now this appears:
hellp
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
ok i will try
now it appears the same thing again
Strange. What version of macOS?
Would the gameplay be affected by the type of computer I have?
For example would the gameplay run smoother with a 2020 laptop then a 2017 laptop?
Question. My OBS isnt picking up sound from my usb c wire that I’m trying to use for gameplay footage. Any ideas? And what shout my mac sound output settings be? The UC02 is the aux im using for sound input
12.6.8
Your output settings depend on where you want to hear the audio. What USB-C device are you using to capture the audio?
Nope
🥲
I have a 3.5 mm to usb c connected from my nintendo 3DS to my macbook pro. I cant hear the audio at all when playing, which is fine. The problem is that I dont hear anything when watching my recordings
I want hear my recordings from my macbook speakers
Does the 3.5mm to USB device show up in the input source list? I'm wondering if this is a passive device or a full on audio card.
Would the gameplay be affected by the type of computer I have?
Is there any other option¿?
Yes, it shows up under Audio Input and I can select it
This is the one i purchased btw https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QB6P279?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Shoot me a photo of your audio input devices in mac audio settings and another from OBS Audio Input Capture
aloha! Could I get some help with adding desktop audio to my stream elements obs? I've tried everything, watching multiple videos and reading articles, I've tried so many things and nothing is working....
I don't see your message, can you try again?
Yea I dont see it now either. Gonna send again
Do you know how to create an aggregate audio device in Utilities > Audio Midi Setup? You might need to create one in order to select it in OBS
Sent. I just closed the app before it finished sending lol service is trash at the moment, even tho im home
Everything looks good in your images. Have you tried another device like a phone or an old ipod to see if will accept another audio signal?
I don't ):
it worked before I configured stream elements to add cute backgrounds and transition effects
now i cant share the audio of my games or safari for youtube videos ):
I'm not sure exactly what could have gone wrong. You might need to get an intentional audio driver for capturing desktop audio. Check this out: https://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/soundflower/
If you need help with StreamElements products or services, please join their Discord server or submit a support ticket as we cannot provide further assistance here.
oop
hello everyone, im new to duel pc streaming and got a mac m2 as my streaming rig. I was trying to figure out how to get my discord voice chat to come on my stream and did using desktop audio. However, now my game audio is echoing in stream. Anyone have a fix for this?
!virtualcam Sorry, I don't know of any. Perhaps trying uninstalling and then reinstalling
OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
It should be as simple as adding a macOS Screen Capture source. Make sure you don't have that source set to monitoring.
i have a duel pc setup so i am using so i am using desktop audio, audio input capture device, and my mic/aux
Why are you using desktop audio if you’re capturing the other computer?
Oh right
Well nothing about that seems out of order
The only reason I can imagine there'd be echoing is if you've set up one of your audio sources to output via a monitoring device
i need to have the monitoring on for my audio input capture device so i can haer anything
my headset is plugged into my streaming rig
and then the audio from my gaming pc goes to my stream and thats how i hear
You should get an audio Y splitter, rather
That's the solution, because you shouldn't be monitoring on the same device you're capturing
They're like, between $5 and $20
What exactly would the Y splitter allow me to do? Have my head set plugged into both my streaming and gaming PC? Also, thank you very much in adnavce
Yeah, that's the idea
One connection would allow you to hear the PC, the other would allow you to use both the headset and the mic with the Mac

Hey everyone, this is my first post so please forgive me if this is a noob question:
I'm experiencing choppy footage (dropped frames I suppose) when recording in OBS. My computer is a very powerful iMac Pro with a dedicated Radeon Pro Vega 64X Graphics card and I'm only using 4% of my CPU power when filming.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get smooth footage?
Here's more info that might be related:
- I can only select software encoder even though I have a dedicated graphics card (must be a mac thing?)
- I have an external monitor plugged in and performance does improve when I unplug it (but again I have plenty of CPU resources.
- When running the Auto-Configuration Wizard it sets me up to record 1080p and that's what I've been doing.
Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting help or insights!
Would it still allow me to hear my PC even if I route the audio to the capture card so the stream could hear the audio?
Why can’t I hear the audio from my gameplay?
Is there a tutorial for setting up Macbook Pro with OBS to use for Karaoke singing on Discord? What I want to to do is use my USB microphone and mix it with the audio from karaoke videos playing in my web browser, be able to monitor both of them on my wireless headphones and stream that audio mix into Discord. I am brand new to this and have been tinkering with it but can't seem to figure it out so I thought I'd see if anyone here could help. Thanks!
OBS not working for me the Virtual Cam doesnt get recognized (using mac with Silicon Chip) i just downloaded it from the site and started. Am i missing something?
i also reviewed app permisson and i allowed everything, still not seeing anything
Im using a mac with an m2 chip and OBS wont pick up any aplications for the screen recording and it wont pick up any speakers for audio output

as for the not picking up any applications, that's likely just permissions:

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
all of the permitions are granted but it still doesnt work'

thanks for the log. can you be more clear about what isn't working
use the screen capture source, not coreaudio
you also actually granted permissions within that launch
as the prompt tells you, you need to restart OBS for the permissions to take effect
re-granted, but they were already granted at start
my audio output and window capture dont detect anything
window capture will not ever detect anything. you need to use screen capture
well. window capture should still detect things. user might have a dead replayd. but yes, try macos screen capture
as for audio, see this message #macos-support message
well, yeah, window capture will do video but not audio
yeah. can't tell if replayd is dead since they haven't selected anything in the ss anyway
Hey there! I'm a music producer and Youtube streamer. Lately I've been having the same problem both with OBS and Streamlabs where after sometime my computer audio will stop recording on either app (it will just "not sound" anymore), or my microphone will start cutting a lot to the point where you can barely hear me
I've tried using multiple audio interfaces (both a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and an Universal Audio Apollo Twin X) and no audio interface and it makes no difference.
This issue usually happens faster on Streamlabs. On OBS it used to take me about an hour of recording/streaming so that either of these things would happen but now it takes like 15 minutes of recording (then I need to close the app and re open it again). Same happens with Streamlabs but I always got the impression that it happened "faster" or more frequently on that app.
Anybody experienced this before? I'm on 13.2
do those audio interfaces have a driver that you've installed that go along with them?
yup!
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
universal audio uses "Console" and focusrite uses another one i can't remember the name
let me get a log real quick
it also might be useful to check if it happens outside of SL/OBS, if you've made any lengthy recordings elsewhere
what other software is there?
the screen recorder in mac makes suuuper heavy videos so i rarely ever use it
you could use something simple like audacity
yeah
i have used multiple audio recording software and it's only a problem with sl & obs
i didn't have any problems with FL Studio or Ableton Live
i'm trying to make the error happen again... it's pretty random so i guess i'll just have to wait
i haven't been able to make it happen yet but i found and old log of a time where this happened in multiple instances
- MP4/MOV Recording
- Old Version (29.0.0)
- macOS 13.2 (OK)
- 0.1% Rendering Lag

still waiting for it to happen, though
this also happens while livestreaming, not only recording (on both apps)
thanks. yeah that's a bit troubling that no audio issues seem to be showing up in the logs
and to be clear, are we talking about audio just coming from your interface? not the screen capture audio as well?
both
but it doesn't ever happen at the same time
i usually have problems with my microphone while livestreaming
and with screen capture audio while recording
it's really weird but it makes it really complicated to work
still haven't been able to make it fail
wow that's pretty odd
fk you
ouch!
ok let me upload to youtube because the files are too big
ok i just made it happen on obs
but it had never happened this way
let me send a log
- MP4/MOV Recording

- Old Version (29.0.0)
- macOS 13.2 (OK)
- 0.5% Rendering Lag
Apple M1 Pro 8 Core 3200 MHz - OK! / Apple Apple M1 Pro (not in benchmark DB)
alright that's more like what i expected to see
my buffer length is set to maximum though
wait the audio sounds weird on those too
wtf
like it kept stuttering and it affected all the audio recorded
what's the name of the device you have selected for mic/aux?
gotcha. yeah. so the max audio buffering and restart messages that appear in the log happen when the realtime audio thread gets too slow to keep up. so it restarts
there's no good reason this should be happening, but it means that your machine and your interface are most likely not getting along for some reason
raising the buffer size may help, yeah
that's the max already hahaha
i see, yeah, i was going to say that looks like it's already quite a large sample buffer
i'm not sure why this issue would only be appearing in OBS though
yeah... i use a lot of very CPU intensive plugins so i need to have a really big buffer length most of the time
no idea... it only affects audio though, i don't notice a slow down on the rest of my machine
yeah that's also normal, realtime audio is very much a single thread thing
this rarely ever happened on my older interface though
i was using that interface
you'd expect an interface that's worth literally 10x would work better...
the problem is that this also happens when i'm running on NO interface
i record making music outdoors a lot and this happens even when i'm recording on airpods
it's so weird
the project i was screen recording when i got OBS to fail wasn't even big... this also happens when i'm recording anything that isn't music too
Hi there! I'm having an issue with my stinger where I shows my first scene for like a second before the transition -- any tips on solving this?
yeah, i've had terrible experiences with interface audio drivers in macOS and i'm never sure where to place the blame. these days i use things that don't require a driver
as far as your issue, i'm not sure what specifically to recommend unfortunately. if you really can't reproduce it outside OBS, it might be worth placing an issue on the OBS github, though i'm not sure how it will be triaged. you could also try #audio-support, there might be other advice i haven't thought of. probably want to reach out to the company as well. sorry i can't be of more help
no worries at all, you've been more than helpful
i really appreciate your time. hope you have a blessed day!! :)))
thank you
On your PC you could use a virtual audio cable to route audio to both the capture card and your headphones
Hi whenever I add an image that is high quality or an mp4 that is high quality, OBS seems to make it into extremely poor quality even though the original image before I put it into OBS was not pixelated.
Not sure why, maybe one of you know?

Are you running OBS Studio 29+ on macOS 13?
If not, you should be. Then use the auto-config wizard and select using the hardware encoder
Please run the OBS auto-configuration tool. To use the auto-config, click on the Tools menu in OBS, select Auto-Configuration Wizard, and then just follow the on-screen directions. You can use this tool to get a set baseline settings for your hardware, and adjust as necessary from there.
I keep getting “Encoding Overloaded Fix”
why is the move transition is doing this? weird scaling issue after adding a different size camera source
Okay so yesterdays stream had no issues, @forest axle you asked for a log with no issues to compare well here is a 6+ hour stream no issues.

alright, so, i don't see anything dramatically different in terms of activity between this log and the logs with lag you posted before. which is important data
if everything else on your computer is in the same state (and this is a pretty large if), this makes me pretty confident that you're just hitting thermal throttling. even if the machine is slightly hotter, that can be the difference between hitting thermal limits or not. and with thermal throttling your performance is going to very quickly tank, as the OS has to basically slow everything down to keep things cool
i know you said apple ran stress tests on your machine, but that doesn't discount thermal issues either. temps are dependent on lots of environmental factors, and it's very easy for throttling to not occur in one environment while it will in another
so the solution unfortunately is just 1. ask your machine to do less stuff, and/or 2. make sure your machine is in a cooler and/or better ventilated environment
hi everyone! I am a new obs user and i am using it on the newest macbook air released earlier this year (the 15in screen one). I want to set up obs so i can stream games on my switch to friendos in discord, and down the road I want to be able to stream and record gameplay as well. Rn, I have my switch in its dock plugged into a usb hub by the hdmi port, which is in turn plugged into one of the usb-c ports on my laptop. i dont see my switch startup screen when choosing the mac screen capture source. What do I do to set this up? ^^;
you need a capture card
will that work if its plugged into the usb hub i have or will it need to b direct into the laptop itself
you can't capture a console's output just by plugging it into your machine. a capture card takes in the console's hdmi output, and then sends it to your machine via usb, typically with a passthrough hdmi output of its own that goes to your TV or monitor
do u recommend any specific one? I'm seeing alot of pricy options but i have a tight budget rn ^^;
you sort of get what you pay for, unfortunately. the cheapest options will likely be plagued with issues like frame drops
I got one from a local walmart thats working pretty good. I just need to figure out audio and set this up so I can stream it to friends now ig
on my mac the teleport plugin from my windows pc doesnt work it doesnt show up and is just black cant find any solution
Here is todays stream same settings the whole stream tanked. As for environment I am elevated so plenty of airflow the mac is cool to the touch, fan is running although quiet, kernel task is up there on the activity monitor. It all calms down after I stop streaming, even more so after I close OBS, minimizing and turning off studio mode did not help this time.
I will talk to apple again to talk about thermal throttling, although I mentioned the kernel task last time when they stress tested it, so they were aware of the thermal throttle.
Is there a suggested thermometer I can run to check enteral temps?
Thank you kindly,

Hi, lads! I've just found that the HEVC videos recorded by OBS with default "Apple VT HEVC Hardware Encoder" settings are not available for the QuickTime Player. But we can add "vtag = hvc1" to Custom Muxer Settings to fix it.
Is this a glitch? I would try to center the Text but the crosshair is off. I am OCD about this. The Text is placed under a Group (to organize things) & the Box is Centered is all good.
Good morning everyone, my OBS is still pretty instable and one of the common log errors that appears (and happily this one causes no crashes) is this: [ mac-screencapture ]: destroy_screen_stream: Failed to stop stream with error (null)
any idea what can be causing this?
By the way... just clicking to view current log crashed it afterwards. 😄
A tip for all having too many crashes: usually it is a scene that has stuff broken, if you go to LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/OBSSTUDIO and manually edit the global.ini file by deleting these scenes form starting, OBS starts again
@frank imp did we forget to add that to fragmented formats? Or does FFmpeg report that those containers don’t support hvc1 tagging?
i've played back fmp4s in quicktime before so i'm guessing it's something with the splitting?
I thought the tagging was only for remuxing anyway?
Hello! I'm getting this error in the screenshot below when I open up OBS Studio 29.1.3 on Mac. I streamed on Tuesday just fine and am connected to the Internet using ethernet. I have restarted OBS multiple times, removed it and reinstalled it, and tried using my stream key directly instead, but nothing is working.
Hi hi! If I update OBS will I lose my scenes set up? I'm trying to see if that will solve a problem I've been having involving the Virtual Camera not being shown on the discord camera list
You will not lose your scenes, no.
The virtual camera will not show up in Discord in the latest release
However, if you're using the Beta of OBS 30.0 and are on macOS 13 or newer, it should show up
You’re right, I also had no issue with unfragmented MOVs and HEVC, haven’t checked fragmented MP4 specifically
Older versions won't help
Only the 30.0 beta on macOS 13+ works in Discord
For any versions of OBS Studio prior, or any prior version of macOS, you need to use Discord via Chrome
okay, so i can update obs and get virtual camera??
If you are running on macOS 13, and you're comfortable with using beta software (it may have issues), sure — you can find the link in #beta-testing-30-archive
Otherwise, just use Discord in Chrome
i tried downloading the beta software however it said it couldn't open it
Eh? What do you mean?
You downloaded a Windows program
You need one of the downloads ending in dmg, depending on what kind of processor you have
Well, do you have an Intel Mac or an Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2)?
m1
Then you need the one ending Apple.dmg
thank you
nothing changed except my discord is now running extra slow...
it didn't show up
it didn't work, but my discord is noticably laggier
You're in beta territory now, so you'd have to ask in #beta-testing-30-archive
ok
okay, so i deleted the beta obs, updated my obs, and i was able to get the virtual camera
now to get discord to recognize the source
i've gotten this far
I've changed VtubeStudio's camera to OBS Virtual Camera and OBS is recognizing that (I think)
This looks good. You just need to start the virtual camera in OBS now.
Does anyone know why the quality of my recordings are horrible? whenever I record my monitor screen, it'll look good in obs but on the recording, the colors look dull/washed out. Thanks in advance for the help! Disclaimer: I have no idea what I am doing in OBS so I'll probably need a full walkthrough lol
I don't believe OBS Studio can fully capture the colour space that macOS uses
Dont tell me that man 😔
Not even macOS itself has that capability
Mac screens: too good for their own good 😄
@forest axle knows more about it
it's true that OBS can't capture p3 correctly, yes. the perception of washed out colors could owe to a few other things that are worth eliminating first though, since in most circumstances, if your settings are correct, it should be pretty hard to notice the distortion OBS applies to colors. can we see a log and an example @ionic gull ?

Yeah let me do that right now, also my settings are more than likely not correct either lmao
- Custom FFMPEG Output
- Non-Standard Aspect Ratio
- Wrong YUV Color Range
- macOS 13.5 (OK)
Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB)
looks like there are a couple things that are causing the issue. 1 is using full color range. in settings->video you should use partial range, since that ensures that most devices will play it back correctly. secondly, you've set the OBS color space to sRGB, but you're using custom ffmpeg output which looks like it's encoding it with rec 709. those have different gamma values, so it's going to come out at the wrong brightness
so firstly, in settings->advanced, pick partial color. then instead of custom ffmpeg output, use standard output. lastly, you should probably pick 709 as your output color space in settings->advanced unless you have a specific reason to want srgb
I probably messed it all up by watching too many YT videos
What's the best color format? And does the SDR whit level and HDR nominal peak level matter?
either rec 709 or srgb is fine. and no, those don't matter unless you're encoding HDR
The colors still look a little off, but you're saying that there's no way to completely fix that when it comes to mac right?
can you show us a sample compared to a screenshot?
but no, not completely. you should be able to get very close
The first one is how it should look, the right one is the recording. That may be as close as it can get but just want to make sure.

which i wouldn't have expected
Can you think of anything else it might possibly be? Even if it's a far out possibility?
hmm
for some reason sRGB instead of 709 distorts those grays far less
use sRGB in settings->advanced instead of 709
i feel like that shouldn't be the case though
Looks slightly better... kinda lol
it's almost an exact match, the primaries are only off by at most one
at least in the greys
Yeah that may be as close as I can get, I'm not going to bother you all night, thanks for all the help!
no worries. that's actually quite odd though, i don't think that much distortion in the grey range should be happening with 709, it could be a bug
If so hopefully they fix it soon!
if all you care about is color correctness and recording, not streaming, i did write a program that performs that task, feel free to message me if that's your main usecase
Ok bet
hi
Hey guys what bit rates should I pick for these? Converting gameplay to 4K (program is Wondershare uniconverter 15)
Video will be converted to 60 fps btw (even though i have it at 30 in the pic)
This isn't a question about OBS Studio
I suggest you ask this in #encoding-talk, they'll help
@polar swift ^
Will do, thanks
Hi I’m experiencing a lot of glitch when recording on my MacBook Pro 2017
2.3 GHZ
8GB
Does anyone know the optimal settings I should be using when recording?
What do you mean by "glitch"?
It's good to be specific so we know what issues need addressing
Well, if you don't want to explain what issues you're having, how do you expect to get any help?
So you can either be a smartarse or describe the issues
That was the best way I could describe it, I wasn’t trying to be smart
Laggy would be a good description for what I’m experiencing
Right, so the video's stuttery?
Yes
Now, are you recording, streaming, or both?
Only recording
OK great. What type of contennt are you recording?
Short YouTube screen recording with webcam
I’ve put all my settings to default to start again
OK, I'll give you some recommended settings
Thanks
Oh, and what resolution are you recording?
If it's a 2017 model, it's 2880x1800 :D
But recording at that can be a bit heavy
So yeah, let's go with 1920x1080
That's what it's made to look like
But it's a Retina display, so you double those numbers in each direction
Ok thanks
OBS Settings -> Output
Change Simple to Advanced
Click the Recording tab
Change Encoder to Apple VT Hardware H.264
Change Bit Rate to 15,000 kbps
OBS Settings -> Video
Set Base and Output Resolution to 1920x1080
Change Frame Rate to 60
So I set base resolution to 1920x1080 and the output?
Yes
Thanks
Then give it a shot
