I think I use the one in the box
C to A
I’d have to set my Mac mini back up to see if I did anything particular with it
is your Mac Mini 8GB or 16GB
@neon lily
not sure if that has anything to do with it at all
Makes no difference, OBS Studio doesn't use that much RAM to start with, but I have the 16 GB model
I have the 8GB model...starting to wonder
So to be clear, if you have another source on the screen (like a webcam), that records smoothly?
I wouldn't wonder, that's irrelevant
I don't have anything else
I even trashed the OBS files and started fresh
only thing I added was the video and audio from the capture card
Well, being able to see something else would confirm if the issue is with the capture card or the compression. Would you be able to add something else, like a webcam, or perhaps your iPhone via Continuity Camera?
If I use preset on the HD60x, the video is even worse
so I have to manually select 1920x1080 and then 60fps
I do notice
that if I set up a blank scene
average time to render is 1.7ms
switch to game capture scene and it jumps to 2.6-2.8ms
and it behaves differently when I use a different refresh rate on my Mac
I tried going down to 60hz, and when I do that it looks smooth...but then the time to render jumps up as high as 5-6ms and the video becomes laggy
and it will do it every 15-20secs
very weird
Well, if you reckon the issue is on the Elgato side, I recommend checking out their community server
For help with Elgato products, please submit a ticket with them directly at https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. They also have a community Discord server.
This is my 3rd HD60X
works fine on my Windows laptop, but the GPU is not great in it for high quality recording
I think I have a thunderbolt 3 USB-C to USB-C cable...going to see if that makes any type of difference
When you switch away from the preset to 1080p and 60fps, there are other options for input format … did any of those make a difference?
only two options for input format and both seem to not make a difference on performance
What were they?
YUY2 and NV12
NV12 is the way to go, usually, because otherwise there's an unnecessary colourspace conversion
going to do some more testing, thank you
as far as i know, the minor frame stutter issue seems to just be endemic to the hd60x on apple silicon macs
We've had a few users with HD60X on Apple Silicon where it worked fine
the issue is minor enough that it's difficult to pin down. i think a lot of people probably experience it but don't realize it
Try application capture rather than window capture. Does it show there?
np
Someone know how to fix this lag and get better quality or got good settings for me
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
where do i paste it
where in discord channel
i can paste in #macos-support #plugins-and-tools
Why would you paste it in #plugins-and-tools
That's a different channel
And you're getting help in this channel
Yes
Advanced output mode, while allowing for more fine-tuning of options, does not automatically mean that your stream or recording will have better quality. Often, it can result in lower quality, because it can allow changes to settings that really shouldn't be changed. In most cases, Simple output mode is the best option to get the most out of OBS.
To change back to Simple output mode:
- Go to Settings > Output in OBS.
- Change "Output Mode" from "Advanced" to "Simple".
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, change the Recording Quality to High Quality (better performance) or Indistinguishable Quality (better quality)
- Select your encoder. If available, select a hardware encoder (such as NVENC, AMD, QSV, or Apple)
Are you streaming and recording at the same time?
just recording
ok so what u want me to do to fix this issue
If you're just recording, follow these steps:
- OBS Settings -> Output -> set it to Advanced
- In the Recording tab, set the following:
- Video Encoder: Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder
- Rate Control: ABR
- Bitrate: 13000 kbps
- Try a test recording, see how it looks
You need to change the Recording Path to your Movies folder
Because for some reason, it's empty
Hi. I'd like to use OBS to stream my Discord stage event to youtube. I was able to do it, but it my Discord video became extremely laggy. Wondering if someone could help me check my settings to prevent that.
I apologize if I'm interrupting another support request.
I'd need to see a log, to see what settings you're using

Test record looks better less lag but is there a way to get higher quality?
You're already at the best settings for 1080p@60fps recording
should i use 60fps 1920x1080?
That's what you're already using
Na I put on 30fps for test record but was a bit laggy so I thought idk if I should 60 fps
But I’m 60 fps rn
The settings I gave you were for 60
eh 60 is laggy but its best it iss ig
in addition to laggy video at times it seems that some of the people calling into discord are not being picked up and recorded at all by OBS in the stream. Some are recorded and some are dropped completely as if the audio is not connected, although during the actual event they were perfectly audible.
you're not actually seeing a ton of rendering lag. what you are seeing, you can only really reduce by putting your computer under less load in general. you may end up needing to reduce your resolution in OBS
as far as the audio issues, that's quite odd. macos screen capture picks up all the audio from an application if it's capturing an application or window, or all audio from the system if it's capturing the display. so if the participant is in discord, and you're capturing discord, there really isn't a reason it shouldn't appear
cant figure out why but obs is constantly crashing in this scene collection :/ i imported it from macos
- Windows 10 22H2 (OK)
- Not Admin
- No Output Session
- Third-Party Plugins (6)
Intel Core i7-10700K @ 3.80GHz - OK! / GeForce RTX 3090 - OK!
any apple silicon users who got https://github.com/prgmitchell/blur-filter to run? I run into "mach-o file, but is an incompatible architecture (have 'x86_64', need 'arm64')" and don't think it's a dependencies issue.
the issue is that there's only a package available for intel
Yeah seems like it, just wanted to make sure I'm not missing an obvious solution
the obvious solution is to either kindly ask yolo to make a silicon release, or build one yourself
I recently did a fresh install, that's why I was wondering whether I'm missing dependencies. Thanks for the help ❤️
When did I blink and miss OBS add support for unlocking better audio codecs in recordings? That is awesome! Can stop recording audio seperately now 😁
how to i make my screen go centre
How do i find my recording once ive pressed 'stop recording'?
File menu then open recordings folder
Sorry where’s that?
The very top left of the screen
Ohhh thank you
In case there are other apple silicon users who are looking for a nice blur: applying ashmanix's blur 3 times creates a very nice blur
https://github.com/ashmanix/blur-filter-obs-plugin
yo how do i fix massive lag on my footage
a good place to start would be a log:

On a 2023 Mac studio, using a Sony a6400 - Had no issues on my laptop, however since upgrading computers, I cannot get the camera to work. The program sees it, I can select it, but no video shows up.
I have tested the camera with other programs, and none of them have an issue picking up the camera.
I have also deleted and reinstalled OBS at least once (including the logs) in attempt to solve the issue with no resolve.
OBS is updated as well.
Disregard - The solution was deleting all old camera sources and re-adding the camera as a new source. All is well.
Hello, I need help with OBS Stream for Mac. I have an scheduled live for Wednesday. Can someone help me?
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
@plush ferry
Hello, I had trouble updating my Twitch Stream Information in OBS Studio (on version 29.1.3 for Mac Silicon). I was getting an error message. So, I disconnected my Twitch account. When I try to connect it again through the preferences window in OBS, I'm getting an error screen when logging in "Your browser is currently not supported" (image attached). I tried clearing out the cache, the obs_profile_cookies, in the Application Support folder and still no good. I even downgraded to 29.0, and still wasnt working. I'm on MacOS 13.4.1
this is an error from twitch, no OBS version or anything will change that. that being said, i have seen this numerous times and have found no solution apart from waiting. most users i have heard back from on this have said it resolves itself in a day or so.
i know its a non-answer but that is really the best i have.
better than nothing. Thank you, appreciate it, Ill try it again tomorrow
you can always use your stream key in the mean time though and change your stream info from the twitch website in your browser.
@pseudo warren which one do I download
yep, thats what I did earlier. That still works luckily
if you have an M1 or M2 mac you pick apple silicon
It’s won’t let me update my Mac @plush ferry pls help me
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher. Older versions are no longer supported.
- if you see the "corrupted image" issue (A) or the prohibitory symbol (B), you must download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio for your version of OS X/macOS.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see the prohibitory symbol (B), you have downloaded the Apple Silicon version but have an Intel Mac. Download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
Is this a thing now?
Is this from OBS?
yes
account won't connect
quick actions dock stopped working so I tried disconnecting and reconnecting and got this...
!settings
could be worth removing cookies, twitch has been known to be a bit weird with that message.
- close OBS
- go to the folder described below, then in
\plugin_config\obs-browser - delete the
obs_profile_cookiesfolder - reopen obs and try connecting again
To find OBS Studio's settings files, look in the following OS-specific locations:
- Windows: Press Windows+R →
%APPDATA%\obs-studio - macOS: In Finder, press Shift-Cmd-G →
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio - Linux:
~/.config/obs-studio
Did not work..
you did close obs first, right?
yes
ouki, then I can't help you more sorry. I don't have a mac to check whether I can reproduce. On windows and linux it still works well
should i delete the cookies file as well ?
wdym?
there is a cookies folder and a cookies file
afaik shouldn't change anything but worth trying
ok thx

Hello everyone, needing some help... Sorry for possible english errors
I'm recording my screen while presenting a document through Google Docs. But when I advance from page to page, it doesn't work on recording. That is, even if I advance the page in Google Docs, the recording continues the same page without leaving the place.
Could someone let me know if is there is any error or configuration that I can fix? What should I do? Thanks!
hi, i want to stream via macbook pro. And i am using douwan app to capture my iphone gameplay. But i am unable to find the video capture in obs
Any fix yet? ive got the same problem
Tried again earlier no luck yet
A crash log is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash log.
- In Finder, click the Go menu
- Select Go To Folder, and type in `~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/`
- Upload the file prefixed `OBS_` with the most recent date (format is year-month-day)
can we see a log so we can see what source types youre using, etc?
what versions of macOS and iOS are you using?

I’ve just reinstalled OBS and I’m trying to log into twitch but it keeps saying “your browser is not supported”
!stalecookies You can try this, but most likely it is a twitch side issue, and if it is, just gotta wait it out.
Erm...

I will look for Mac command
Thank u
open OBS, do file->open settings folder

the rest of the steps will be the same
Hello guys! I have an issue, I changed some settings on my OBS and now I wanna link back my Twitch to OBS but it won't let it I have the following message 'Your browser is not currently supported. Please use a recommended browser or learn more here.' Even though it worked fine before. What can I do?
yeah, it looks like twitch has this issue on mac currently.
What you can do is use your stream key to stream but you won't get the integrations in OBS
Oh really? I contacted the support from twitch and they said to contact OBS support because the problem was coming from OBS. Any input on when it will be fixed? I need chat and stats integration as before 🥲
the OBS browser hasn't changed in pretty much a year or so. Twitch saying it is not supported is anew developement and on their end afaik
But it worked for me like yesterday
I just tried to use restream so I changed the stream key and changed my mind so wanted to put twitch back
yes, as I said a recent development
twitch changed something on their end between yesterday and today which caused this
nothing changed on obs' side
twitch support redirecting people here is unfortunate
oh wow okay 😥
hopefully the relevant folks on the twitch side are working on it
I hope so.
Hi, I have a question, I've always streamed on twitch on Youtube, I've made videos. and now I started doing online podcasts just on youtube.. I'll tell you what happened to me, I set everything in advance that there would be a podcast in two days, I set everything in obs. set. after two days, a guest came, we went into the stream and I clicked on obs stream, I selected the stream I had ready and we were going... after about 15 minutes I found out that I was simply not broadcasting... so I stopped everything and thought that it's because I'm from H264 I switched the codec to AV1 so I switched it to H264 before the guest, I solved the panic and it started working... so we went through the podcast and I have a few days until the next guest. so I thought I'd try it... And I just can't connect to Youtube via obs.. in obs it looks like everything is working but there's nothing on youtube, I played with codecs and that didn't do anything. And I figured out that I have to go to youtube studio and there the live broadcast settings and enable it, I already noticed that there is also a check box to enable automatic start and also to turn it off. Is there a way to make it automatic like I had it before? I don't understand why I have to check it now... Is there somewhere to enter something so that it is clear every time I want to stream via obs and I enter a stream in obs so that when I start the stream it will automatically connect? so that I don't have to go to youtube studio and check each stream so that it starts automatically or ends automatically? do you all check that before you stream?
so my streams are really choppy and i cant figure out how to make it more smooth
Hello, i have a question. Can i choose what device is used for audio monitoring?
Like, i want to listen to the sound coming from my elgato, but the output is contained in the desktop audio. Is there a way to separate them?
yes, in settings > audio
Hi guys. Can OBS work without lags with two scenes (Browser & Android studio) on MBP16 2019 i7? Because when I open OBS, after 1-2 minutes, my Macbook becomes very laggy. It drops FPS from 60/30 to 5-6, and I don't know what to do with this issue.
Have you guys had the same problems on your intel macbook Pro?
- 16.4% Rendering Lag
- 14.3% Encoder Overload
- macOS 13.5 (OK)
Intel Core i7-9750H @ 2.60GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 5300M - OK!
I want to hear the sound coming from the capture card, but it is duplicated on stream. Can i do it somehow else?
well either don't monitor it to a device you're capturing, or don't capture the device you're monitoring it to
!ac
For the second, you can use application-specific audio capture instead of capturing the whole of desktop audio
To capture only audio from specific programs:
Windows: follow the Application Audio Capture Guide
macOS: follow the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide
Umm, how, like, if i monitor the device, the sound comes on 2 sources, the elgato and desktop audio
And if i turn the volume down of elgato, i wont be able to hear
Hi. Last night I was able to connect my capture card to the ps5 and to my MacBook and it let me record on obs studio but after I stopped the recording it said saved and I didn’t know where to find it. Can someone help?
@opaque quail /Users/user/Movies folder?
Thank you! I will check there later today.
I have MacBook Pro and hd60x.
Wen I hit record and then stop the files are inaccessible.
Iv tried creating a file bit nothing goes in
And other files sit there with todays date but I can’t access
hey, any ideas on why this is happening? i havent streamed for 2 months and wanted to come back but im getting this issue about browser. My google chrome is up to date
You can see here i got clips from other day sitting there but can’t access. Got bids from today but can’t access. First was movie but nothing to access there so I switched to mp4 and tried other location but same@results
Help!
What are you trying to open them with?
MKV videos should be opened with an appropriate video player, like VLC
If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.
We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.
We're investigating the issue now. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Can I use anything I have already? Like I said I switched to mp4
oh is this known then and not just on me? i havent been here for a while so i thought that might be it 🙏
What app are you using?
I just click on it
In what?
As part of what? A media source?
Idk
I can’t access it there ?
Where?
This is what I'm asking
I don't know how you're trying to access the file, you haven't said
Yes. I just told you, that screen is of an "open file" window
But I don't know what app you're trying to open the file in
Or why
Or how
Maybe tell me how you're getting to that "open file" window?
I just want to find the file and be able to open my recordings
Then use the Finder
So I can edit my clips
Right, use Finder
They get saved to your Movies folder
There's no app in the world where the correct place to open files is through the Settings window…
Now go into the Movies folder
I'm having the same issue - anyone have any ideas? Tried clearing cache, reinstalling an updating chrome/safari - no luck
Accessing files in your own home folder isn't an OBS support question, so I'll leave you to it
Like I said, we're investigating
We'll get back to people with a resolution ASAP
To be clear, the browser you have installed on your computer has nothing to do with the internal browser that OBS Studio uses.
thanks @neon lily ...and yes, thats what I was thinking but the moment you dont try something, thats the thing that fixes it 😛
Anyone else having a problem logging into Twitch from OBS? I keep getting a browser not supported error?
Feets says they are looking into it
Yep, we're not sure if the issue is with OBS Studio or Twitch, so we're investigating it with them
oh ok... so it's a known problem then. Thanks
<@&715347355565817879>
We're investigating the issue where some users can't connect to Twitch due to a "browser not supported" error. We'll get back to folks with a resolution as soon as we know what's going on. Thanks for your patience 🙏
👍 Thank you
Hoping someone can help me out.
System: MacOS Ventura 13.4.1 on a M1 MAX MacBook.
OBS Studio: 29.1.3 (64 bit)
When logged into my Twitch account, my docks stopped working. I went to settings and logged out of my account, so I could log back in again.
Logging back in gives me a “browser not supported” error.
I’m able to log into twitch via all my browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox), I’ve deleted the obs profile cookies, have restarted the machine, and have even let it sit overnight to see if it fixes itself.
I have a regular stream here in a few hours and would love to have my docks back. Any ideas what I can do?
See my message right above yours :)
lol, @neon lily JINX
I have another question.... in troubleshooting the browser login thing, I downloaded the latest version for intel macs and im unable to run it but im on a 10.15.7 Catalina build - any thoughts?
In the mean time, you could use your stream key, but you will then need to use your Stream Dashboard for chat and so on
Good to know it’s a known issue.
😦 gotcha
@thorny yoke You need the first link ^
thanks @neon lily
#announcements message can point people here for now.
@forest axle @plucky zenith ^
yee, saw it, ty 💜
Guys I need help
My screen is black on OBS and can’t get it back if I use the display capture it overlaps my webcam
Re-order the items in the Sources list so that the video capture source for your webcam is above the display capture
hi
does anyone know how i can access my recordings on mac
because it wont let me
i'm getting an error that says my browser isn't supported when i try to log in to twitch via obs
is that a known bug?
yep - see #announcements message
We are all patiently waiting for news on a fix 🙂
ah, just realizing now
does this also affect browsersources?
just saw the update in announcements, but am running into the issue still. would be curious if others are as well
might take some time to actually implement/execute/backend
Just saw the announcement about the fix being deployed, Still not working on my end
Are you still seeing that same error message about the browser not being supported, or is something else not working?
Browser still not supported. Have restarted multiple times.
Anyone else able to get in? Is the fix working for some?
may be worth clearing your cookies:
- open OBS
- file->show settings folder
- exit OBS
- navigate to the
plugin_configfolder, then theobs-browserfolder - delete the folder
obs_profile_cookies - re-open OBS
- go to settings->stream->disconnect->connect
I was still having the same issue until I performed @forest axle 's cookie clear above (which didnt work before) - now it is working! Thx macos support
Yesss, thank you. Tried that previous and it didn’t work, now it works. Thank you so much for the support!
Thanks, this worked for me too. Didnt work earlier
@zenith ingot
Hey does anyone know how i can view my obs recordings on mac
They get saved in your Movies folder. Use VLC to watch them.
Great thanks I appreciate it
So I was able to reconnect twitch account to OBS but the quick actions dock is still not working. Anyone else with this issue?
What quick actions dock?
I don't have that dock. Is it actually one of OBS', or is it a custom one?
I was hoping someone might help me - I am using a macbook pro and need to have a multicam set up - a c922 logitech webcam and using the iphone continuity camera. I have decent stats I believe on my mac (see screenshot) but when OBS runs the machine becomes almost unusable, crashes sometimes and makes the cameras laggy. Any advice on how to optimise obs?
So, i have this setup, i am trying to listen to the elgato sound in my pc-connected headphones. i want the xbox sound to be the "ELGATO SOUND" , right now the sound is duplicated
any help regarding this?
you can mute "desktop audio" if you only need the sound of the capture card anyway
click the speaker icon to mute it
game capture/syphon server is not available anymore on macOS
just use window capture
nooooooooooo 😭
it's gone for some years now
window capture should offer similar performance on modern macOS
Can i capture a single window audio?
i add the window capture, but no audio source is present from it
I think you need macOS 13 for audio support in window capture, but I am not sure
Current versions of OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
On older versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, you must use an external audio app to capture desktop and app audio.
For more information, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
i have macos 13
but still, i want to only capture discord sound, no other sounds
Look at the first link
oh
it's so simple i guess
and it will be captured no matter what device output i have in discord?
custom
it records what Discord outputs, not matter where it's directed to
ty, a lot
Hey, thanks for the answer!
I got this log url now: https://obsproject.com/logs/vPdEbuQHJFJfEo5i
Just remembering the problem: Sharing my screen while im presentating a document using Google docs. When I advance from page to page, it doesn't work on recording. That is, even if I advance the page in Google Docs, the recording continues the same page without leaving the place.
Thanks very much

Hey, i just got the log url in the message above, thanks 🙂
How can I use VSTs on the apple silicon version of OBS? Intel releases work fine as expected, but not arm64. Plugin windows just don't open. And it's my understanding that arm64 is much more efficient on m1 macs.
The VST must be compiled in the same architecture as OBS

I have been receiving an encoder overload on my past two streams. How can I correct the high audio buffering it is warning about?
Or is there something else I need to fix?
which of these should I use? I am currently using x264 and am having the issues listed above. could someone please assist?
I recommend H264 hardware encoder.
HEVC is same quality but a smaller file size, editors may not have support for it.
AV1 is supported on YT if I recall, but nothing beyond that as far as streaming.
X264 is your CPU (software encoder)
To add, I believe AV1 has a higher system load? Though I could be wrong on that
Thank you! I have changed that and it is now on H264 hardware. Is there anything else you recommend I change based on my log?
Unfortunately no. I will have to wait for a macOS expert on that. I don't use Mac so don't want to cause issues.
hi. you should probably update to macOS 13. macOS screen capture isn't enabled in OBS 29+ because of the amount of issues that exist on monterey with it. that's probably the culprit. i would update both macOS and OBS. or, alternately, if you need to stay on macOS 12, you can use the deprecated window capture or display capture source
everything else looks more or less fine, using the hardware encoder will go a long way toward increasing performance. it should solve your issues
Hi, can someone help me set-up my OBS so I can record screen video and audio but have audio on low volume or completely off so it does not disturb me while I work. I still want to capture the audio but don't want to listen to it while I am recording it. I tried Blackhole but are having difficulty setting it up. When I record the audio does not come through.
What version of macOS do you have @main flame?
Hello! I have a question about my recording. I’m trying to get my recordings but it’s like a mkv? Or something like that? How can I see my recordings? I don’t know if my explanation makes sense
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.
mkv files can be opened in VLC Player
What is better : High quality or "inditstinguishable" quality ?
there's no "better", depends on what you want.
Indistinguishable is higher quality, High is smaller file size
yes
is that highest quality ?
no it's not the absolutely highest quality, but it's the reasonably highest one
how can i make it higher ?
also why are you in this channel? you're on windows
by mistake

trying to debug the sonoma SCK slowdowns in OBS since i couldn't reproduce them in my own app. seems like some of the oddness has to do with SCK in OBS wanting to scale window captures to obscene sizes...this is the size that my xcode window "wants" when added as an SCK source, which is absurd since its actual native resolution is maybe closer to 2000x1000 it's actually 3456x2158, so exactly 4x retina scale here
further, it's actually rendering the window at 4x scale, and not just scaling up the native size. so it's like SCK, or possibly windowserver, thinks it needs to render this window at 4x the resolution it needs to
yeah, seems like screen_stream_video_update is receiving sample_buffers from SCK of ever-increasing dimensions...have yet to puzzle out why
it goes in .5x increments
from 1x to 1.5x to 2x (correct), then 2.5x and so on up to 8x
on paper i don't even understand why this causes a drastic slowdown of the entire system and presumably windowserver. sure, it's trying to render a very huge window, but we should have the resources for that. it also stops at 4x for some reason
cc @west cypress
simultaneously, windowserver memory use balloons from like 1.7gb to over 5gb, and crashes back down when the capture is canceled (which makes sense)
Thank you! I have another issue tho, my OBS freezes after streaming for a while. I am not sure if it’s because I screenshare with my Apple TV but I wanted to know if there is a solution to this?
I have OBS set up to look for an image called image.jpg which can be overwritten based on different triggers. I tried to set up something similar with videos, but when the trigger changes the video, the video layer on OBS just freezes and doesnt load the new video. Am I missing a preference or something?
In the media source properties, enable " Close file when inactive"
thanks. I thought I tried that, but I will try again
what type of source is freezing?
I imagine the screen capture, because starting airplay shakes up the displays internally
My whole screen freezes, my main monitor( I use a macbook)
originally you said your OBS was freezing, what precisely do you mean? you don't mean that your actual entire physical screen is freezing, do you?
Sorry yes, that’s what I meant
if your entire display is freezing, that's not going to be an OBS issue. that's a macOS issue
hello everyone! I just downloaded obs studio but for some reason after setting it up, I cannot see any recording on my screen. Now when I am tying turn it off, that's also not happening. I think it got freezed. Can anyone help me on this? TIA

They are universal binaries with 2 architectures; 64bit bundle x86_64 and bundle i386
Is this specifically a limitation of OBS that’s waiting for proper implementation, or a system wide macos limitation? I use arm64 builds of FL studio or Adobe Audition and they run these VSTs fine.
You'd need a universal binary that includes arm64 / aarch64
It might be possible to build a universal VST loader process that then communicates with the host application, that could be what FL Studio or Adobe Audition are doing. However I don't believe that's on the radar for OBS.
I should be able to see that in activity monitor, shouldn’t I?
You are right, they use an intel hosting service
Yeah, two Intel binaries won’t help here. Like I said, you must match the OBS and VST architecture
You could use the Intel version of OBS
It’s still very performant on arm64 given much of the work can be offloaded to the GPU and hardware encoder anyway
I think this is actually a macos built in module, I wonder if maybe it wouldn’t be as complicated as it sounds to implement to OBS? Carla (open source) does this.
I believe someone is working on a Carla-based VST 3 plugin for OBS
Just so you can see what I'm talking about
We're working with the Carla developer on improved VST support, yes.
It could be that that just happens to fix this problem, but I do not know that.
However, no ETA on when that's ready.
I would also point out that is a dedicated team working on a specific task
How easy something is to implement comes down to a project’s priorities at any given time, who is working on what feature, how many people etc
Yeah that's fair I understand.
I wanted to use the Carla VST in OBS thinking that would already be what you described here, but the plug-in window doesn't show when clicking the button
Which is odd, since it seems like the VST has an arm64 architecture
I get this error: VST Plug-in: Can't support edit feature. '/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/carla.vst'
What is "edit feature"?
hi
I'm finding a different problem now. After about 10 min of streaming to Youtube the video freezes in the stream. The sound continues normally though. Here are the help log files from OBS for the problem. Could someone take a look at them for me and see what's going on?

AFter this freeze event happens, none of the screen capture audio is audible. Only mic audio.
why cant I record my screen audio at all
Current versions of OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
On older versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, you must use an external audio app to capture desktop and app audio.
For more information, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
do you have a consistent way to reproduce the freezing? unfortunately macOS screen captures occasionally freezing is a known issue. if you have a consistent way to reproduce it, it may be a different issue though
if it's totally frozen, the way to resolve it without restarting is:
- open activity monitor
- search for "replayd"
- kill the replayd process (select it, and hit the X icon along the top bar, and force quit)
- macOS screen capture source should restart, may require adjusting the properties
Hey guys, i'm finding a different problem with my OBS Studio now. Can someone help me?

Sounds like an OBS side. requesting sizes and the system uhh just doing whats asked of it?
i didn't see any point where OBS was setting the size any larger than the sizes that SCK was delivering though. rather, it's SCK that's coming back with the larger sized buffers for unclear reasons
seems like on the first frame, SCK delivers something at 1x scale. so for a 3456x2160 window, the first frame is 1728x1080. then a frame or two later, SCK comes back with something 3456x2160 (correct) and OBS adjusts in response. then for some reason it just keeps growing
the sample app doesn't do any dynamic adjusting of SCStreamConfiguration in response to window resizing, which may be why the issue doesn't appear there (after fixing the app)
I am trying to record my desktop audio, however when I go to enable desktop audio, there are no options for me to click. What do I do?
Current versions of OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
On older versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, you must use an external audio app to capture desktop and app audio.
For more information, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
i also just noticed this, but trying to window capture music.app instantly freezes music.app. i thought that the issue didn't occur in music.app, but it was actually just that music.app was freezing instantly so presumably it couldn't respond to requests to render at different scales. i think it occurs for all windows
the issue also only occurs if windows get above a certain size, but the size required to break it depends on the application and window. further, shrinking the window again sometimes un-breaks it and causes the window to capture and render stably at the normal 2x scale again. im guessing this is almost certainly an issue somewhere in either SCK or windowserver
i'll put all this in my feedback (FB12326079) as well. just figure it doesn't hurt to get more visibility
Need help with audio settings. The Global Audio Devices Desktop Audio is Disabled and I have no other choices there , how do I fix this. Here are my Audio MIDI Settings

Are you still on Seed 1?
nah i'm on beta 4
not the absolute most recent, but the first beta 4
what version of macOS are you on?
Hey guys I’m not very well versed in computers and software in general but I bought a capture card to stream on twitch and every time I add video capture card but one crashes. Is there anyone who can help me with this issue?
Excuse me, what if the latest obs does not support desktop video capture for macos12?
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher. Older versions are no longer supported.
- if you see the "corrupted image" issue (A) or the prohibitory symbol (B), you must download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio for your version of OS X/macOS.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see the prohibitory symbol (B), you have downloaded the Apple Silicon version but have an Intel Mac. Download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
My computer is a MacBook2016, the system is macos12, but the video capture prompt must be macos13
Yup, looks like Screen Capture is a macOS 13 thing.
Yes, should I download OBS Studio 29.0.2?
No
Use the latest OBS
macOS Screen Capture is disabled on macOS 12 for a reason, it’s buggy
My prompt here requires macos13
I see, but unfortunately my macbook2016 can't be upgraded to macos13
Thank you very much for your help
At any rate, use the latest version of OBS and use window capture and display capture sources
Well, thanks again~
I have a MacBook Pro 2016 with no GPU and all footage recorded is unwatchable from how low the frame rate is. No mater what settings I use
Does anybody know what settings I should use?
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
That's fine, a dedicated GPU wouldn't make any difference
If you send the log following those instructions above, I can see what settings you're using and suggest something better

yeah was just a bit lazy and using a old recording since i kind of quit using obs
There was no recording at all in that log, which is what Feets will need.

It’s not dropped frames, it’s skipped frames
If you're just recording, follow these steps:
- OBS Settings -> Output -> set it to Advanced
- In the Recording tab, set the following:
- Video Encoder: Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder
- Rate Control: ABR
- Bitrate: 15000 kbps for 1080p@60 or 7000 kbps for 720p@60 or 3000 kbps for 720p@30
- Try a test recording, see how it looks
@pine widget ^
Hi all - I know this should be a super simple thing to work out… but I’m new to it all;
I want to record at a scale of 720 as I don’t think my machine is super great. How do I make sure that is enabled?
Is it a rescaled output via the recording tab? 1280x720?
no, do it in settings > video, change the "output resolution" to 720p
Thanks @plucky zenith - and that’s 1280x720 right?
yes
Thanks! 👍
i accidently did something this happened what do i do?
@pearl yacht hey thanks for taking a look at the hotkey thing. can i ask what your test setup looked like? i was trying to reproduce your results, since on my system i was seeing different behavior, but then my hotkeys broke entirely with OBS out of focus while i was testing and i started questioning my whole reality. are you running from the debugger? with just input monitoring permissions? on master?
or something else
I just build it locally and run it
but I have codesigning set up, so the permissions stick
and I don't have input monitoring enabled, just accessibility (that's required for hotkeys when OBS is not in focus)
then I use that breakpoint config to get started
and this one for hotkeys triggered when OBS is not in focus
ah ok that's probably why mine broke midway, i forgot to re-add accessibility when a line changed. i should probs set up code signing so thats less of a pain. yeah those are the functions i was looking at as well. thanks
yeah accessibility is required for the second use case
I think I also know why push to talk only works why out of focus, I just need to find the exact piece of code that is responsible
my main hunch is that Qt doesn't understand "key held"
and once the press is consumed, it thinks the key isn't pressed anymore
yeah well that was what i was going to post about, on my end it doesn't work even with OBS out of focus
even though macOS still dutifully tells Qt "key is down"
yeah might try again with accessibility permission granted
yeah i'm going to take a closer look and ill put my findings in the thread
ugh.. I think I debugged this issue months ago, hence why it felt so familiar
it's not Qt, it's us 🙈
sanity check. setting a push to talk hotkey on an audio input source should immediately lower its volume to zero once it's applied, right? because that's not even happening on my end
and should it show the mute icon while at idle?
that depends, you can mute a source that has push to talk enabled
because those are two separate things
i just mean, add a blank audio input source. then settings->hotkeys, add a PTT hotkey for it
what happens
i can't get PTT to do anything whatsoever on my system, regardless of focus, and it's quite confusing
(or push-to-mute)
obs is not loading
Guys, does anyone have any idea of to check why my stream is dropping frames (network) I do every type of test and my connection is stables ATLEAST 600 mps down atleast 20/25 up
Yet I’m STILL just dropping frames. If anyone has anything I can run / any apps I can try or anything I can check specifically with my isp , I would really appreciate it.
Maybe any terminal commands I can check ? Idk man it’s just infuriating
I’m on hard wired as well
why is obs running so slow? It uses up so much memory now and it never used to do this.
What youre seeing is literally how it is like to use it
This is a bug in Sonoma
As far as I can tell at least, this looks like the known issue
Only happens with the Window Capture mode
So to fix it, go back to Ventura
Hey y’all! Received an Elgato capture card and using OBS on a MacBook Pro (M1). All works well, but when ending video and finding it, OBS saves it under the Canva App.
Yes, the graphic design app. When I click on the file it redirects me there where it plays the video but cannot edit/adjust anything. Is there a reason this isn’t saving directly as a clip?
it's saving as a clip. your issue is that the "canva" app has registered itself as the default handler for .mkv files
you'll want to right click one of those files, select get info, then under "open with", select your media player (if it's .mkv, you'll need VLC or something that isn't quicktime player). then you can hit the "change all" button to make that the default application that will open that file
Makes total sense and got it all set! Was very confused seeing that app lol. Thank you!
i accidentally hit something and its all zoomed out! how do i fix this??
hello! I sent this log a few days ago and was recommended to change my settings to H264 hardware (which I did). I just finished a stream early due to still experiencing encoder overloads. Could someone please assist?
Can you send a screenshot of your settings?
would that cause an encoder overload? What should it be set to?
It won’t cause a encoder overload but it will make your stream much smoother
Try 5,000
?
are with an obs volunteer or are you just lending general advice?
I was just told to have it set to h264 in this server. Could I please get some assistance from an OBS volunteer?
Or h264 doesn’t really matter
okay, could someone please assist me based on my log?

Are you streaming on the same pc that you are you are using to game? If you game
I play switch games
Are you using a capture card?
yes
To stream it
What one are you using
el gato hd60 s+
If you are not having audio issues, then you can most likely ignore the max audio buffering. Also your previous log had no output session, so it will not show any encoder overload if OBS logged any.
I am having audio issues. my audio was just cutting out in my last stream. apologies about the last log I just put that in there. the most recent log was this and it was still stating I had audio issues:
this one ^
I was recommended to change my video encoder, which I did, but I'm still experiencing issues
First question, where are you streaming?
YouTube
Have you tried reducing your resolution to 720p? And seeing if you still have encoder overload? Generally 2500, heck even 5000. Are not enough to stream 1080p effectively unless if it is a slow movement type of game with moderate graphic detail.
is it really not possible to fix this issue without reducing my video quality? I value high video quality
I will just let a macOS expert assist you, apologies.

heyo. so you aren't actually seeing a meaningful amount of rendering lag or encoder overload. can you show us what the lag you're seeing looks like, i.e. with a clip or a link to your vod? i'm suspecting the source of what you're seeing is something else
sorry, can you describe your issue in more detail? you're very close to 16:9, but not exactly there. what are you seeing that you aren't expecting to?
it said to add 16:9
that would be 854x480. you're at 852x480
Example at 50:21
This happened a few times during stream but this one was pretty obvious and had to end it after that

hmmm
It’s been already matching
the thing is it seems to look fine most of the time. trying to think what might cause something like that. what seems more severe to me is what happens at like 56:30 where your mic cuts out completely for multiple seconds as well. lookin over your log again
Yeah, this has happened in a previous stream as well so it’s a consistent issue at this point. It’s really distracting for folks in stream
And I just want to note that I saw the encoder error multiple times tonight during stream. That was just the one where all of chat was really saying something and my views dropped
does that youtube link correspond to the most recent log you posted?
This one does. I don’t think I copy/pasted it correctly. The most recent was a private stream I did immediately after to test
that one has no output, so i think you have the wrong log there
Okay. So yeah the most recent was the test but all three of the logs I’ve shared seem to say that I’m having an audio buffing issue
yeah. so, high audio buffering is an issue that happens when your CPU load is high, but that only leads to latency. it shouldn't lead to any audio actually cutting out or problems like that. or if it does, those errors should appear in the log separately
Am I able to still get the log for the stream I provided the example for?
Please manually upload your log file.
(Windows)
- Press WinKey+R to open the Run dialog
- Paste the following into the box and hit OK:
%APPDATA%\obs-studio\logs - Find the desired log file (usually the latest) and drag/drop it into this channel.
Linux logs: ~/.config/obs-studio/logs
macOS logs: ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/logs
I thought I had by selecting “current log” immediately after that stream. That’s what I copy and pasted
if you go to finder, hit command-shift-g and paste that last line in, that will take you to the logs folder. then you'll want to find the one with the timestamp that corresponds to your stream
if you restarted OBS or something, it will create a new log, so you may have just missed it
i'm currently guessing that your errors are a device issue and not strictly an OBS issue. but having the log that corresponds to that stream will help narrow things down
Okay one moment please
paste the line in where?
when you hit command-shift-g in finder a text box will pop up and you paste it in. or in OBS you can do file->show settings folder and then navigate to the logs folder
I'm confused on what I'm supposed to do with the txt file
oh, just drag and drop it in here is fine

unfortunately none of those have output, so none are the log from that stream
I copied and pasted the last three logs. It isn't possible for it to be an earlier log
yeah it must have just got eaten unfortunately. hmm
the test stream is the best I have rn unfortunately
i'd still speculate that it's a device issue, since there's nothing in the logs you've shown with output that would indicate audio cutting out for extended periods together with large frame drops
and this one ^
you have an hd60s+, what is your microphone? and how are they connected to your mac? is there a USB hub in between, or connected directly?
yeah, this one looks fairly normal as well, a pretty nominal amount of encoding lag for your settings and nothing about audio dropping out
I use a blue yeti. I plug it into my usb hub that is connected to my mac air and my external monitor is plugged into that same usb hub
does your capture card (the hd60s+) also run through the hub?
yes it does. my capture card usb is plugged into the hub and then the hdmi is plugged into the external monitor
ok, that seems fairly clear cut then. the issue is almost certainly the hub. both the microphone and the capture card feeds are dropping out simultaneously, and OBS isn't reporting any issues
what type of usb hub is it?
this is both audio and visual
yeah that definitely looks like the hub is the culprit
looks pretty cheapo too, makes sense
would that really impact both the audio and visuals?
yeah it was cheap. I was annoyed that my expensive computer only had one usb 😐 lol
actually wait it has NONE
if you're on an m1 air you should have two usb-c ports
lol sorry not relevant. if that's the definitely the issue I'll purchase a new one
yeah, i'd recommend you get a thunderbolt certified one at least
ideally, your devices would be connected directly to your machine with a thunderbolt cable without any hubs, but if that's not possible, you definitely want a thunderbolt certified hub that looks legit
the two outlets on my mac air aren't enough. I need to plug in my mouse, keyboard, microphone, graphics card, and connect it all to my external monitor
yeah with the air you're definitely somewhat limited
if the hub is proper thunderbolt and specced for all your devices, you shouldnt have any issues though. the computer itself is definitely fine for what you're doing
okay, thanks for the advice I'll go pick one up tomorrow! fingers crossed
👍
sorry, but could you send an example of one that you mean?
of a thunderbolt hub?
i haven't really shopped for one, but i think something like this should be fine https://www.amazon.com/CalDigit-Thunderbolt-Portable-Charging-Ethernet/dp/B079H4WTR4
the key word to look for is thunderbolt 3 or 4 'certified', which means that the actual connection to your computer can deliver 40 gb/s speeds
in yours it vaguely mentions thunderbolt but if you look closely it only mentions actually supporting usb 3.0 speeds to your computer
which is only 5 gb/s
I see. Okay, I'll look around for one that is thunderbolt certified
the one i linked is also sold on apple's website which generally is a good indicator that it will do everything it says it will, and then you can just find a cheaper listing wherever
sorry, but just to clarify. changing the usb hub will remove the encoding overload messages I've been receiving while streaming?
replacing it will cost a bit so I just want to be sure
The amount of encoder overload you're seeing is negligible
i'm not sure why exactly you'd be seeing those messages, but i can almost guarantee it will solve the issues in your vods, since those are almost certainly not due to encoder overload, and as feets said, the amount you're seeing is very small
i've heard of other cases where OBS/VT will raise that message even if the encoder is not actually dropping frames, and with your settings, there's basically no situation where you should see the encoder drop a meaningful amount of frames
okay, thank you I very much appreciate your help with this
yeah no probs, good luck, let us know if you hit any other issues
i accidentally dragged something can someone help me make the screen bigger
Docks in OBS can be managed from the Docks menu in the main OBS window.
You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing, as well as add custom browser-based docks here.
You can also reset the UI from this menu to return your docks to their original state (Docks > Reset Docks).

Bumping this since its still not resolved
Could you take a full screen screenshot? I can't tell what the issue you're having is
(That's Shift-Cmd-3)
I usually use shift 4
I know, which is a partial screenshot. I want to see the whole screen.
I know i was just saying
I left clicked something and didnt realize till it was zoomed out
My first guess is that your base resolution has changed
Can you show OBS Settings -> Video?
Oh yeah, that's it. You resized the base resolution to the size of one of your sources, probably an image
Set the base resolution to whatever it was supposed to be, likely 1920x1080
Thank you!
Snap Camera that anymore correct i do remember before i use that for video capture device before work but now anymore. if that correct before ? i do remember that. oh well anymore.
i have a question i use that obsproject.com/forum that none one answer. mean that only obs communnity that one ? i get confuse. hmmm
It's either there, or in this discord server. Typically you'd get more answers here than on the forums, as more people are active here.
Is there a way i can play music in the background of my streams on obs to liven it up a bit?
!macaudio if you play music from a different app, then do this to capture audio. otherwise you could use media/vlc source in obs to play music
Hi, I need advice on the podcast, I have a photo presentation made, either I put trailers for various events or maybe photos of the guests. It is made from a classic presentation and the background darkened by some percentages... I would need advice or a kick on how to do it the same way but using videos. I had the assumption that I would do it using Vlc media, but when I put all the videos there, it played one small, the other 3 times larger than the screen, etc.. is there somewhere to set the maximum dimensions and to align the videos to the center of a selection and then only on the keyboard or using streamdeku switched videos? like next video and back to previous video?
^ answered in #plugins-and-tools message
hey i havent streamed for a while, and im still in OBS 27. Is the latest version stable for OSx Monterey?
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher. Older versions are no longer supported.
- if you see the "corrupted image" issue (A) or the prohibitory symbol (B), you must download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio for your version of OS X/macOS.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see the prohibitory symbol (B), you have downloaded the Apple Silicon version but have an Intel Mac. Download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
Yes
Thanks! Do you also recommend updating to the latest MacOS? im always a bit worried when upgrading to new ones as i always overthink that it might affect performance for my OBS or something
what mac model do you have?
16in 2019 Intel i7 with 16gb of ram
i'd say the benefits of the latest macOS is really good, and you have an i7 anyways
you get access to macOS Screen Capture on OBS
so yeah
oh you think this model can handle the latest updates? im honestly unfamiliar with how it is now because i remember back then that new updates cause a lot of problems for older macs
not really sure on performance difference of the OS itself, but the new macOS Screen capture is much more efficient on obs
if apple store lets you update, then i'd say yes
i7 after all
and how does the MacOS screencapture help with OBS?
should be good enough
sorry for the noob question 🙈
thanks ill check it out 🙏
without that, you'd need virtual cables for desktop audio
which is a pain in the ass on mac, as there is no way to choose an output device for most apps
so no more need for third party apps like black hole?
yep
ohhh nice nice! i think ill try to upgrade my OS now too 😄 was just worried that i7 might be rusty for the latest
thank you! im downloading now 😄
np
Hello again! how can i connect my iPhone camera so i can stream my traditional drawing process on my streams on macbook? Do i need any third party apps for that?
cant multy stream kick or youtube with resteram io
I have some good news, turns out my problems were with my cheap capture card. I found that out by borrowing my Dad’s capture card, and the problems I had with the previous one stopt
OH see got it wow now understand that thanks for clarify hmmm.
why is the screen capture always too big even when i reset the transform
theres no way to make it fit without manually resizing it
if you put your controls in separate windows how do you get them back?
MacOS Version- 10.15.7
Issue: After I record my OBS Audio (just 5 seconds of talking) I watch it but here's the problem: After one second, the sound is slow, and glitched. But once I insert the file into Discord, it's normal, or insert into a editing app. How do I fix it?
Don't reset it, fit it to window

Quicktime
If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.
We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.
hey feets, does push to talk or push to mute for audio sources work for you
with OBS out of focus
ok good, that actually agrees with my system
it's broken for me but not pat
do normal hotkeys work for you with OBS not in focus?
ie mute and unmute
Hey i'm looking for help because when I try to set my desktop audio to my headset there is no option for it
and do you have accessibility perms granted

No idea, I don't use hotkeys
oh, were you responding to someone else before
would appreciate if you have the time to test, no worries if not though
No, I was replying to you
I followed the ventura 13 steps but the issue still isn't fixed
i fixed the issue but even though im on the ventura version it only worked with vb cable
can i use obs on macos catalina? it says i need macos 11 and i only have macos 10.15
why can't i open up the recording in files after finished?

Not the settings window, the main window
why tf
i fixed it but with vb cable
I would like to confirm that adding a macOS Screen Capture device didn't already add a sound source
Otherwise you're going to have two lots of desktop audio captured which will make your recordings sound awful
Plus, having to use VB Cable means you can't adjust your system volume, so it's not really a "fix" by any means
Have you downloaded an older version?
yasss
Gd gd
Here is a picture of obs
Well, I can see the reason why it didn't work
You added a Display Capture, not a macOS Screen Capture, as the links explained to do
Display Capture is deprecated now. If you switch over to macOS Screen Capture, you get desktop audio capture without needing external tools and the multi-output device, which means you can also adjust your volume properly
👍
I have one more issue, I dont know how to set up VLC to fix the format of my videos
What do you mean by "fix the format of my videos"?
You mean you want them to open in VLC by default when you double click them?
I had an issue where it said i needed windows to run the videos afterwards in the files
and the bot said download vlc
but i don't know how to use it
right here
im gonna send a picture
i'll be back in a couple minutes
it says this when i try to open the video after i recorded it
… eh?
Open VLC
Then click File -> Open
Then choose your video file
Also, don't record your videos directly to iCloud Drive, recording files are enormous
how do i prevent that
Hey, I use a Nintendo 3DS capture card. I realized this got disabled at one point and was wondering which one is best for output quality
probably bilinear
whatever looks the best to your eyes
debugging this hotkey situation is giving me a migraine. the behavior literally keeps changing. i swear there is a race condition or something
Depends what resolution it outputs
I'd go with Disabled if it outputs the 3DS' native resolution or some exact multiple of it
is vlc supposed to look like this?
You mean what resolution the capture card software outputs? I dont have the dimensions on hand, but its wayyy higher than 3DS native resolution when I put it in full screen. My aspect ratio is 16:10 for both base and output (i chose 16:10 cus of my macbook pro)
haha it's always been like that for me, so i've given up on answering people asking about hotkeys on mac
my hypothesis is it conflicts with other apps with global hotkeys, like Zoom
yeah, i don't have anything else with global hotkeys, and furthermore, the way OBS is adding an event hook, nothing should have the ability to swallow these events whole, OBS should still see them
and it is! but the hotkey is not actually doing anything for some reason
@pearl yacht with OBS not focused, i'm noticing that hotkeys sometimes work if i'm using breakpoints to see when the hotkeys are picked up, but they don't work without the breakpoints
it seems like there's some pretty weird multithreading issues going on which might be why it's working for you but not me
(on current master, so post-your PR)
the link you sent explains how to make VLC your default on windows im pretty sure
oh wait no
No, I did not. I even specifically sent the link to the Mac section of the page
theres a option for mac
yea my bad
Does the capture card scale up the 3DS image to fit or leave it at the native size in the middle of the picture?
You'd have to send a full screenshot, not just a portion, because it's not clear what the issue is
It scales up. The capture card software stretches the gameplay when i use full screen
What software is that?
Because if the capture card software is scaling up the 3DS image, there's no point setting the scaling method in OBS Studio. Leave it as Disabled.
n3ds_view. Some software made by the capture card guy to display the 3ds capture footage
Thanks though. Dont think I saw a difference in quality when i realized it was disabled
hi, if my microphone is off audio isnt being recorded, can i get help with this?
it was working fine yesterday but now it isnt recording audio with my mic off
Yet another person with high CPU usage on macOS. 2018 Mac mini, 3.2 GHz 6-Core i7, 32GB RAM. I'm not doing anything in OBS and CPU is around 85%
OH WAIT NVM im an idiot
try lowering your recording settings a bit?
Even at 1280x720/1280x720, 10 FPS I'm at ~75%.
thats odd, whats your encoder?
x264. Apple VT H263 Software or Hardware doesn't seem to make a difference.
huh, then im not sure what to do, sorry
Okay, I just disabled all my Audio Sources... and now it's down to 1.6%
alright
If you send a log, I can see what of your settings might be causing the issue
Sure, just give me a moment
For context, the Audio device I'm trying to use is an exteral audio interface (Focusrite Clarett 4Pre). It's currently running at 48kHz.
How should I send it? DM?
Here, as per the instructions
Ah, I see above
Here's with the external audio interface enabled: https://obsproject.com/logs/3MA1C064u0CzYh6A
- Non-Standard Framerate
- macOS 13.5 (OK)
- No Output Session
- No Scenes/Sources
Intel Core i7-8700B @ 3.20GHz - OK! / Intel HD 500 - Below minimum requirements
OK, let's have a look
Below minimum requirements
Alrighty then 😭
FWIW, even with the audio device disabled, as soon as I added Desktop Capture source, CPU is back up near 90%
Could you try something for me
In the Profile menu -> click New, then click the Profile menu again and check that you've switched to the new empty profile
Then check if you still have the performance issues
Sure, will do
Not sure if you wanted me to go through the auto configuration wizard, but I did
I've got to run but it seems like as soon as I enable my external audio interface in Audio - Mic/Auxillary Audio... OR add a source that includes audio, OBS cpu usage jumps from ~8% to ~%90
Audio Encoder is AAC (Default) and the only option available. Doesn't seem to matter if my Audio Interface is set to 48kHz or 44.1kHz.
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
they've tried to post a log
but yeah, a complete log would help
do you see the OBS interface normally on startup?
it's odd that you would be able to interact with the interface but the log would be incomplete
Hi! I have a small problem. I am using a camera as a cam in my obs scene but it looks like that the camera flickers a bit. Do I have to set the same fps settings in the scene as the camera is set to or is there any other thing i could check out?
I made a mistake, it was complete
User just did not add any sources
Exposure is the next one to check
log from post-exit might be useful, i think the log still shows time-profiling in that case
is there a rule that I can go with?
Not really, just adjust until it looks good
thank you my friend!
hi guys, i just used obs and i recording some content today. I cant find where it downloaded on my laptop
Movies folder
Interesting issue I’ve come across.
Using Mac and PS4.
The issue I’m having is that.. when my headphones are plugged into the PS4, OBS stops recognising the audio from my capture card.
I’m assuming.. the PS is no longer sending it to the card. Any thoughts on how to solve this?
Wait. Headphones on my capture card…
For some reason my obs says my video encoder is having an error and to update AMD drivers and they are up to date can someone help me

It's likely that your base resolution is an invalid number.
So you'll want to look in ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/profiles. Then in the folder of whichever profile you were using (Untitled by default), edit the basic.ini file. In the [Video] section, set BaseCX to 1920 and BaseCY to 1080.
Why does this pop up when i try to use mkv recording format in the output catagory
Have you tried doing what it says?
what do i change the recording path to though
Hi! I'm trying to stream my screen and output audio on discord, any idea why the obs output isnt showing up as an opyion?
heres what my obs looks like
jebać obs
Is there is a way to rename a virtual camera?
Maybe in the code or somewhere else, do you have any clue?
what do i change the recording path to
in discord?
i just changed it to a folder
but after i made the recording and went to watch it this popped up
so for some reason it says i need parallel desktop to open the video
!vlc
use VLC instead

how do i change the output recording path to vlc
It doesn't let me choose vlc as my recording path
you don't need to change the recording path, just open the file with VLC
let me try that
it worked but the graphics are pretty bad and it has a bad watermark at the bottom
i appreciate the help by the way
the watermark is not a watermark. it's not in the video, that's just VLC displaying the video name
!cleanlog
for the graphics, send a log as described below

hello im trying to record minecraft on macos but with the macOS screen recorder the actual window isnt taking up the whole red coloured canvas part
Can you try with obs 29.1.3?
there
Click on the source then press Cmd-E. Send a screenshot of that window.
there
Do you have filters on it?
What mode is it set to, window or application?
window
Huh, odd.
any ideas
i found out a temporary fix by cropping it
but its only temporary
and theres no documentationon this happening to anyone else online
actually those temporary solutions dont work
I can't quite fathom why that window is coming out a quarter size
Does it do that when trying to capture any other windows?
Hopefully an easy question;
I recorded a test video. 35 minutes. Had my console screen and me on camera, OBS via Mac.
It came to 1.9GB.
I was hoping to do much longer videos, but even uploading ~2GB to YT took a few hours.
Is that simply the reality of videos this long? Do I need to compromise recording quality heavily to lower it?
yes
that's an occasional replayd issue that popped up sometime in ventura. open activity monitor, search replayd, select it and kill the process by clicking the X on the top bar @fierce rapids
yes it does
Hi! I'm trying to remux some files from MKV to MP4 since Premiere Pro doesn't accept MKV's, but with todays files I get this error in my log:

Hi all! I do piano shows on Twitch with a Macbook Pro and OBS. I changed my output in OBS from 1080 to 720 and resized all my onscreen files to adjust. However, my files of most recent cheerer, subscriber and follower are nowhere to be found on the screen. I click on their file in OBS but nothing shows up. Any advice? Thanks!

Hi, I have a problem with OBS and its performance. I have a Macbook pro with 8 gb of ram, when playing Minecraft normally I go to 390-450 fps fluid but when I open the OBS (without streaming) I drop a lot of FPS, I go down to 10 fps maximum 20, I go super bad and I can not stream for it, I would like to know some configuration for the obs in settings so that I do not consume so much or some recommendations. I would like to stream and I opted for OBS that according to what I had read was the one that consumed less Cpu. I hope you can help me
