The Logitech people told me as long as I could plug in their webcam directly to my computer, it should work. I got the light signal to turn on and when I went to Zoom it only would show my virtual background but not me!

you didn't show a screenshot that shows the terminal output after you entered that command, so i can't tell if you entered it correctly. if you did, restarting zoom should no longer show the camera. restarting OBS will reinstall the camera, however

i don't know how specifically to hook up logitech webcams on macos for zoom. recommend looking up if you need their software

After I entered the command, it didn't do anything. The good news is that I just installed the external webcam software and it's now working, although not without freezing and a few other issues. Sounds like I'll just leave OBS where it is. Too much trouble otherwise...

Good morning all. I am getting back into trying to record some screen and audio items on my mac, I have gone through the troubleshooting and quickstart, but I feel a little lacking.

I have audio on my iphone through an app that I wanted to play on my macbook and record it.

I have setup a new scene specifically for that, created the source to be audio input capture, but that is as far as I understand.

Do I need to adjust some additional settings in OSX? I am using Ventura, which has more limited items in settings than previous OS"

Recording the audio playing on a Mac is easy on Ventura

But if you have the recording on your phone, what app is it in? Could you not just transfer the recording to your Mac directly?

that's the problem. It's through a specific app I had to download.

They allow use of the app for 30 days after the retreate

so I wanted to copy the recording during that time, but there is no transfer as it is inbuilt into the app

So I guess what I need to do first is work out how I can play the music on my iphone through my mac, and then just capture it

ok so worked it out. I can set the display to the macbook pro retina display ( I have 3 external monitors) then I hit record, mirror my screen and play the audio. It seems to record perfectly.

My next question would be, can I just record the audio and not hte video and export as an mp3?

or would I Just import the movie file into final cut and export the audio file?

So, last week I updated to OBS 29.1.3, and since then I’ve been having an issue where when I go live, my connection is super unstable which makes my stream really laggy, even though there’s nothing wrong with my internet. I’ve tried adjusting all output resolution settings as well as encoder settings, even tried reinstalling OBS. Yet if I use a different streaming software everything is fine. i am not able to use a filter VST 2.x Plug in on my OBS running on mac m1.
after selecting the filter i get a dropdown to select plugins, however there are no plugins to select from, i have downloaded reaper plugins and installed as well but still i am getting no options on the drop down.

Hello! I’m currently streaming off my PS5 using OBS and a capture card to stream my gameplay. However, i am having issues capturing the discord party audio from within the PS5 onto OBS due to how playstation treats party chat audio. My workaround for this was to create a second discord account and join the chat on my macbook and then record the chat audio directly from discord on my mac. However, the only way i’ve found to do this is to MacOS Capture or Application capture in OBS. This issue with this is my stream becomes un watchable and my frames drops to 10 and below. Am i doing something wrong, is there a way to record the discord audio without ruining the entire stream?

Hi, I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro (Apple M2 Pro, 16G memory, 512G storage) and I may be looking to learn about the best camera to use for my streams. I do music shows on Twitch with just a piano and mic. I currently have a Logitech C920 1080p. I know little about how the cameras and OBS really work. My current C920 doesn't have the picture quality I'd like. If I set my stream to 720p on OBS, does the camera need to be programmed to 720 as well using some version of their software? Would a Logitech Brio be a better camera to invest in? Thanks!

Is it possible to have camera on overlay that so you can see that in full screen with one screen display. So essentially you can play game and watch yourself live. I know how to create this with two sources so it records and displays both. But then don’t have ability to see my own screen.

Not with obs alone, and you would prolly have tough luck finding such feature anywhere. I recommend getting another display (and would be useful even outside streaming)

I am struggling to find how to get game capture on my macbook obs studio account. I have a macbook pro version 12.5 and have only recently got obs studio just this week. I have finished my set up with all of my scenes with their correct sources except the game scene. This is because I realised that game capture was not an option in the sources and i dont know why. as of recently streamfx does not distribute binaries of its pre-releases, and the binaries of the last stable releases have been removed due to GPL violations

currently the only way to access StreamFx binaries is to either support it on patreon to get access to a pre-release one, or build it yourself

that being said, a fair amount of what streamfx does can be done with other tools too, so depending on your specific needs, you might have alternatives

Getting a weird issue. HD60X game capture card used. M1 Mac Mini 8GB. Whenever I set my display to 60hz, my average time to render starts from ~2ms and then every so often jumps up to ~7ms and you can clearly see lag in the preview window (but nothing shown missed due to rendering or encoding lag). If I increase to anything above 60hz, the average time to render also goes up. This is a fresh macOS install I've done twice now with the same results.

if your display is at a higher refresh rate, that's more work the gpu is doing to render those frames to your display. that means the gpu can devote less time to rendering your OBS frames over that same amount of time. so it would reasonably follow that it might take more time to render your frames

but if you're seeing lag in the preview window from a capture card input, and OBS isn't reporting any rendering lag during output, then the issue is most likely between your capture card and your machine

i wouldn't get hung up on render times unless you're at the point where you're actually facing rendering lag, since render times can dynamically change depending on the overall load conditions your machine is under

to anyone with M-series Macs and uses an HD60X

if you can get your HD60X plugged into a windows machine somehow, use the 4K utility and change the Input EDID to Merged. This seemed to fix any recording or streaming issues for me. Sure it may look a little laggy in the preview window...but my stream and recordings look great.
Streaming at 15,000Kbps to YouTube and Recording at 25,000Kbps locally using the Apple VT H264 encoder on both streaming/recording.

and for audio, you can switch the audio from HDMI to Analog audio and it will stick when plugging it back to your Mac for OBS

Also make sure your firmware is up to date, it can be updated in the same area in the 4K utility in settings

As far asI know I haven't changed anything, but just by launching OBS with my usual applications open my computer starts slowing down and I get a lot of rendering lag. This is all without being live or anything. I deleted some sources that I wasn't using because I thought they might have been using up some resources but it didn't help. Hey folks! So using Ventura, is there a way to "mirror" my iphone 13 pro screen to OBS? I'm using a third party app (Filmic Pro) to lock in my exposure and white balance to get things to look a certain way, then I'm using the Virtual Camera out to Discord for streaming.

I found out how to use the base iphone camera itself which is nice and all, but the auto white balance just makes it rubbish for my needs. Thanks no rush!

Hi guys 🙂 please help me with this issue im having:

• im experiencing lag and delay when i stream when the router is in use still, if youtube or netflix is playing whilst i stream, i will lag or be delayed. i know for a fact the perfect settings for the stream are still not being used despite me trying many through trial and error.

my speedtest is really good, 2 ping with 40 upload 40 download.
im using a macbook pro, i5 processor, intel iris plus 645 1536mb graphics card, 8gb memory.

please see attached the settings im using, if i choose to use more than 1000kbps, it lags worse...
my stream is intended for just a 720p webcam, no gaming etc.

also find attached the router settings for QoS which ive enabled to try and beat this issue, but its not really made a difference.

Advanced output mode, while allowing for more fine-tuning of options, does not automatically mean that your stream or recording will have better quality. Often, it can result in lower quality, because it can allow changes to settings that really shouldn't be changed. In most cases, Simple output mode is the best option to get the most out of OBS.

To change back to Simple output mode:

1. Go to Settings > Output in OBS.
2. Change "Output Mode" from "Advanced" to "Simple".

heh yeah, thats why i wanted to see a log. you're not seeing a meaningful amount of rendering lag. in fact, youre not seeing a terrible amount of dropped frames either over longer sessions. your symptoms are probably something else

can you characterize the "computer slowing down" symptoms and what you're saying was rendering lag in more detail? what exactly is slowing down and lagging and what does it look like?

if possible, can you capture it and send a clip?

all of the rendering lag happens when I first launch OBS, and basically my mouse cursor lags going across the screen a lot, my starting soon screen is animated and it gets all choppy

fricks sake, i am really hoping someone can help me out. SE.live was smooth until my stream earlier, suddenly custom chatbot name stopped working. Getting a blank white screen popup when i click button to add custom bot name, uninstalled/reinstalled/logged out and back in, deleted all sources/scenes etc and added capture card in fresh, etc. (no update available)

I am using OBS to send my Power Point slide to my 2nd monitor for use with my prompter. I've set everything up and I can flip the image horizontally (using transform flip horizontally) in my preview window but it does not show using the projector option. since last time we got nowhere with terminal, try this:

1. copy this string: /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
2. open finder
3. press command-shift-g
4. paste in that string and hit enter
5. drag the file obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin to the trash

note that if you start up OBS again, it's going to "reinstall" the virtual camera no matter what

Hello! I'm trying to stream a GBA emulator but am having audio troubles:

1. I'm hearing myself talk, type, even click my mouse which has never happened before (it's also carrying over to meetings, so I think I messed up my Mac settings)
2. I can't adjust the volume, either through OBS or through my mac settings. My game is pretty loud and drowns out my voice entirely.

I'm on a Macbook Air, Ventura 13.4.1. First screenshot is the audio device settings, set up like the guide outlined, and the other two are my input/output sound settings on my mac. On OBS, I've been experimenting with input/output settings, but typically have Blackhole as the output and my mic as the input.

Any ideas or fixes are very appreciated! I'm not super tech savvy so if you need any other info, please let me know

I should mention I originally installed Blackhole because I was having issues getting the game audio from the emulator, but if there's an easier solution I'm happy to circumvent this issue entirely lol

if you're on ventura, honestly the simplest/easiest way to go is to drop blackhole and the multi-output device entirely, and just use macos screen capture to capture game sound

To hear your audio sources through your own speakers/headset:

1. In OBS Settings → Audio, set your Monitoring Device to the speakers/headset through which you wish to hear the source audio, then click OK
2. Click the Edit menu → Advanced Audio Properties
3. For each device you wish to hear, change Audio Monitoring to:

• Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
• Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
• Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording

Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.

Realistically, you should lower your resolution to compensate for the lower bit rate

Nah, CPU/GPU has nothing to do with that issue

In fact, lowering the bit rate would strain the CPU even further, because it would have to work even harder to compress the video and audio data into a lesser amount of data

It's a network issue. Getting good speeds on a Speedtest website isn't a good indicator of connection quality, unfortunately

It may be as simple as needing to choose a different streaming server in OBS Settings -> Stream, or it's an issue on your ISP's end, etc.

By chance, are you streaming over Wi-Fi? It's best to stream connected directly to your router via Ethernet cable — or sitting as close to the Wi-Fi router as possible, if Ethernet is impractical

What you are seeing is normal and is called the Video Feedback Effect. It will go away when you stop looking at the OBS preview on the same display you're capturing. Read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_feedback for more info.

Oh, it doesn't. That's dumb. Usually apps that depend on capturing transparency like that will use NDI on Mac, as that supports transparency. Unfortunately, there's no way in macOS to capture transparency in apps that don't make actually themselves transparent.

So it's firmly a Stream Avatars issue.

Perhaps you could request the feature from them.

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

• (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
• (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
  3. restart OBS Studio

If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.

We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.

Hi, such a question. how best to set up the broadcast. I broadcast via Macbook M1, internet 250/25mb. I set the video encoder: codec AV1 Bitrate to 15000 kbps, I did a test and it was ok.. but then I created a broadcast that will start in a few days.. and when I joined it, it just kicked me out without warning.. I didn't know what with that and then it occurred to me that I was just putting the AV1 codec there. so i changed it from Aom Av1 to x264 and then it started working. And that's why I'm asking how you set it up and how the top works for you, because I wouldn't like to experience this again in front of a guest... I hope you understand

Alas there is no "best" way to set it up - there are different scenarios which each require different setup and the best way to approach it is to educate oneself about how these things work and then select the appropriate settings.

Usually services have FAQs or a knowledge base which will tell you recommended settings to use, so try to stay within those parameters. Services can and will have different requirements, so there is no "one size fits all" setup. A good setup is also dependent on the type of content you stream, the experience you need/want your audience to have, whether you prioritise text legibility over visual clarity, low motion vs high motion.

Hi there, I'm experiencing an issue of slow uploading speed while streaming on YouTube, it was fine for more than a year and this just started happening within the past few weeks... We called our internet provider and seems like there's nothing wrong with the internet (speed tests on browsers all look pretty fast, connection on YouTube is also great quality while streaming), so we had to think it's a software issue... The case is the uploading speed is 1) constantly lower than what is set, and 2) suddenly drops so the recording often times have dropped frames.
We've been trying to figure this out on our own for the past few weeks, and think it's time we need some help here... Many thanks to anyone who can give a little help!

I hope everyone is having a great day. I'm encountering a rather frustrating issue with OBS while trying to record my screen. Despite numerous attempts to configure the settings and extensive research on the Discord server, I'm still struggling with low-color video output in my recordings.

Output Format: I experimented with various output formats such as MP4, MKV, and FLV, hoping that it might improve the color quality. Unfortunately, the problem persists regardless of the format used.

Video Settings: I've spent time adjusting the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to enhance the video quality, but the recorded videos still appear with muted and dull colors.

I've diligently searched through the OBS Discord server for similar issues and tried out the solutions that have worked for others, but unfortunately, none of them have resolved my problem. I'm hopeful that someone in this wonderful community might have encountered a similar issue and found a solution.

If any of you have successfully addressed this low-color video output problem, or if you have any ideas on how to tackle it, I would be incredibly grateful for your insights and suggestions. Maybe there's something I've missed, or there's a specific configuration that has worked wonders for some of you.

getting correct macOS display colors in OBS unfortunately is not possible because of how OBS handles color internally

the nearest you can get 'out of the box' will be selecting sRGB as the color space in settings->advanced

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:

• Game Capture HD and HD60 are not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the Elgato Game Capture app in full screen, then capture it with a macOS Screen Capture/Window Capture source
• HD 60S is not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the OBS Link app
• HD 60S+, HD 60X, Cam Link are compatible with all Macs and can be captured with a Video Capture source. Make sure you are using a USB 3-compliant USB cable or adapter, connected directly to your Mac if possible
