I'm pretty sure

#

100%

#

It's an obs browser source

strong tulip
#

Yeah, I'd say so.

shrewd elbow
#

yeah that would make sense. when I find out exactly how they did I'll come back in and share it

#

and yeah...my thoughts are always trailing off... dots or no dots

paper barn
#

I'm calling it, it's non local

#

Keep this in your mind when you come back hehe

strong tulip
#

And do come back, we'd be interested to know

shrewd elbow
#

lol...ok... we'll see if you were right....

#

hopefully I will finally hear back from the streamer.....who is NEVER there...

paper barn
shrewd elbow
#

will do..

#

unfrotunately, you gotta wait until the end of a movie to see the animation come up with the next movie title... im dying to figure out how he did that...

paper barn
#

Probably just created a png for each film and he activates it himself

shrewd elbow
#

nope.... its auto....

#

i wish the solutioin was that easy...

#

I used to think he was doing it manually...

paper barn
#

Maybe the player he's using

shrewd elbow
#

but it happens like clockwork....24/7 gotta be auto

paper barn
#

And he's just using window capture

shrewd elbow
#

I've downloaded like 20 video players trying to find one that does that... with no luck...but I;ll get down to the bottom of how he does it...and report back to you.

#

are MODS on this Discord somehow associated with OBS?

#

and i heard they will be removing 'obs' from their name.. justice served

#

i was one of those ppl that was sure obs and slobs had some kind of partnership.

shrewd elbow
#

glad the truth came out..

#

oh thats good . I havent been on there site sine that all went down. good..

anyways.. I'll swing back to this room when I find out...

I'm seeing 09:45:44.829: [win_openvr] [OpenVR Capture] win_openvr_deinit: device refcount not zero! but I'm not sure what exactly that means.

#

I would recommend posting an issue on the developer's resource or github for them to take a look.

#

Seems to be something wonky with the plugin itself. I don't have my VR setup connected at the moment to test, but if I get around to that in the next few days I will follow up.

Got it, thanks for looking!

#

Hi everyone aishHey
One month ago, someone told me to uninstall my Shaderfilter plugin because it was obsolete, the thing is, I'm looking for a replacement plugin that can handle shaders, and I can't find any. Actually I only see quite recents videos, articles and tutorials with the one I was already using (Shaderfilters).

Can someone confirm it's now obsolete ?

strong tulip
#

It isn't

#

But you could look into StreamFX, it now includes a few shaders and support for them

oblique yewBOT
#

If you are looking for more information or support for the StreamFX plugin, please visit the forum resource page.

strong tulip
#

Its format for shaders is slightly different to shaderfilter's, though

jovial anvil
#

Yeah, he told me to actually use that instead, it does have some great default effects, but I thought I'd be able to add shaders in it. But it only accepts .effect files and not .shaders

#

im lacking a lot of what i was using with shaderfilter, im now considering using it again then 🙂

untold jay
#

if you're a shader developer and can port shaders between obs-shaderfilter and streamfx, using streamfx may be preferable, but if not, you might just have to keep using obs-shaderfilter

strong tulip
#

I use both 🤷‍♂️

#

And despite the file extension, I don't think the .effect files are the same between them. I've never been able to load shaderfilter's effect files using StreamFX and vice versa

#

If you join the StreamFX Discord server via that link, they might be able to point you to some more shaders

untold jay
#

if you're an end user with no knowledge of shader languages, you're better off hiring someone to do that for you (or just keep using obs-shaderfilter, it's not like it's going to break just because its author isn't making any more changes to it)

jovial anvil
#

sounds all clear :), thanks for the really quick answer guys, you rock

#

i might use it carefully again, i guess some of the shaders are just touchy and can cause some bugs and crashes and i should be fine 👍

strong tulip
#

Yeah, just figure out which ones to avoid. That's what I did, heh.

It's a keyboard/mouse input overlay

#

I managed to find some of them, but I used to have one that showed my full keyboard and that one kinda seems to be nowhere to be found

#

Actually it was this one exactly

untold jay
#

@jaunty skiff this particular one was made for an older version of the input overlay plugin, and should ship with it; newer versions use a different data format and this one was not ported to it, so you'll need an older version of this plugin

boreal hearth
#

it was actually ported recently I just forgot to add it to the presets archive

untold jay
#

is this part of the latest release?

jaunty skiff
#

I may or may not have dug through the files on Github, downloaded the image of the keyboard, then copy/pasted the script into a new .json file

#

I mean, it works, so I'm not complaining XD

untold jay

i don't need input overlay myself at this time, but i'll know what to do if i do

dark sapphire
#

in support, expect the unexpected

strong tulip
shrewd elbow
#

apparently he also researched how to do it and couldn't figure it out either....so he improvised his own solution. A very tedious solution. He went into each individual file and edited it with MOVAVI....

strong tulip
#

Oh man

shrewd elbow
#

but the drawback is he had to keep the order of the files the same and play them in a loop....that was the onmly way to get it to work....

strong tulip
#

Yeah, so it's basically predetermined. It might as well be one long video.

shrewd elbow
#

but wow.....if someone out there needs an idea for a good plugin....this would be it....

dark sapphire
#

what's the context?

shrewd elbow
#

I know... I couldn't believe that's how he did.... he actually took the time to edit EACH video file and add in that overlay of the next movie when the closing credits rolled.....

#

must have taken forever....

#

CONTEXT: a streamer who streams movies had an overlay animation for the next movie while the ending credits of the current movie were playing..

paper barn
#

I didn't expect him to have it IN the video

#

But it's manual

shrewd elbow
#

I'm going to invent a word and call it "pre-manual"

#

but thats how he did it...mystery solved...

#

and yeah... adding the next file INTO the video file seems so stupid...but I guess until someone codes a better way to do it, that does seem like the most logical (and inefficient) way

boreal hearth
#

Does it just show the name as text or something more complex?

shrewd elbow
#

shows up as a cool animation.... but that's easy...

#

i wouldn't even use movavi.....i'd just do it all in OBS....

#

use a cool move transition... and voila...

#

but I originally thought he was reading the next file off a .txt ....and had it overlay when current file was in its last few minutes...

#

seems like it wouldn't be too hard to write the code foe something like that...

#

i saw several posts on ppl asking how to do somethign like that in the OBS website forums...

boreal hearth
#

getting the name of the next file would probably be the biggest hurdle

oblique yewBOT
# alpine siren can you edit videos with obs i swear i saw someone do it once

Editor functionality is not something that is currently in scope for OBS development at this time. While editing features would be nice, the main focus on development in OBS right now is on improving OBS's streaming and recording features, and we're happy to leave the editing step for other, more specialized programs to handle. Here is a good list of editing software that we recommend you check out: https://obsproject.com/wiki/Post-Production-Tools-You-Can-Use

strong tulip
#

You absolutely won't have seen that, you must be mistaken.

#

Possibly you saw someone capturing an editor in OBS? :-)

alpine siren
#

possible i am like i said i wasnt sure

#

i wish obs had an editor feature like trim and splice videos and stuff

#

would make life a little easier im trying to learn davinchi editor

strong tulip
#

I mean, if OBS had those features, it wouldn't have any different an interface than DaVinci or any other editor

#

You'll find editing workflows are all basically the same

alpine siren
#

exactly

strong tulip
#

OBS would just have its own version of the same thing (and, tbh, it'd likely be a bit crappier because that's not OBS' main purpose)

alpine siren
#

Davinchi is easy for the editing part once you get into color grading and audio and affects then becomes out of my league

strong tulip
#

Then don't touch those bits, no need ;-)

alpine siren

Using the Cloud Closed captions plug-in (ratwithacompiler/OBS-captions-plugin) I am looking for a way to output optional 608/708 captions with the audio/video output. Ideally on NDI or UDP/TCP or even Decklink SDI. Can anyone recommend a developer or people that could help or a way to get in touch with ratwithacompiler? Thanks!

strong saffron
#

Shouldn't the normal streaming or recording output already be enough for that?

#

probably not for NDI since that has it's own output thing but for UDP/TCP you can just use the normal recording or streaming output which should have the cea 608 captions from OBS included

nocturne remnant
#

That gives you the captions overlaid/ "burnt in" to the video output. The need is for captions embedded into the stream in 608/ 708 format so they can be turned on or off by the viewer, the same way you can turn captions on or off on TV or YouTube..

strong saffron
#

OBS embeds captions as CEA 608 when sending to stream and recording output and twitch.

dawn palm
#

I do not believe we output captions to recordings.

strong saffron
#

you do/can

nocturne remnant
#

It does not pass the captions out Decklink out for sure, I have an SDI broadcast monitor to test.

strong saffron
#

The OBS plugin mentioned does support saving them to recordings for example, I've tested that myself.

#

Just the inbuilt captions experimental doesn't.

dawn palm
#

Ahh, you're talking about a third-party plugin.

#

My bad.

strong saffron
#

Just tested with SRT and 608 captions are output and work in mpv

nocturne remnant
#

Just tested recording the stream with the captions plug in running, settings set to "native captions> output to> streams and recording", not seeing any captions on the resulting MKV file when viewing in VLC or MediaInfo. Am I doing something wrong?

#

I have also not been able to have it save SRT

strong saffron
#

Not a lot of players and file formats work well, I'm doing ts files with mpv.

#

On the obs side srt://localhost:12346?mode=caller&latency=750000 as Custom server url.
Then recording with ffmpeg -f mpegts -i 'srt://0.0.0.0:12346?mode=listener&latency=750000' -c copy -map 0 test.ts
The resulting test.ts file has captions that I can turn on and off with mpv and extract with ccextractor.

#

Btw OBS 608 captions might not be fully standards compliant either https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues/4006
At least I've seen a bunch of sites and players have some issues with them that claim to support them and do play others fine but I really don't know enough about CEA captions to be sure.

nocturne remnant
#

Ok, .ts file is showing 608 in MediaInfo.

#

So that is for a file, I need it in an offline stream, I will try and test streaming out OBS to VLC via UDP and see if VLC can see captions maybe

strong saffron
#

I'm not sure if VLC can even show the captions OBS embeds.

#

Personally I've never gotten it to even with local files.

Can I stream two different resolutions to two different platforms at the same time?

I was wondering if I there was a website/plug-in/software to let me stream to Twitch at 720p60 and to YouTube at 1080p60 from OBS at the same time.

I would like to stream to a broader audience on Twitch at 720p.

I also want to stream to YouTube at 1080p60 to have a 1080p video immediately uploaded

PS. I'm also worried about my bitrate. My upload speed is about 19-22mbps (at the time of this post). Will that be enough to stream to two platforms at those resolutions?

I believe can, using the Multi RTMP plugin. Each output can have its own settings. Never tried it though

Is there a way to update id for a source without interfering user? Unfortunately, one of my plugin has a conflict of the id.

cyan peak

there's an id versioning system

hollow stirrup
#

It looks like just setting an integer version.

cyan peak
#

perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do

hollow stirrup
#

The problem is that there are two different plugins both providing waveform_source.

cyan peak
#

that's odd. I'm not sure what to do in that situation. I probably shouldn't have used name ids as the unique identifier

hollow stirrup
#

For the next time, I should add reverse-DNS so that the id won't conflict again.

cyan peak
#

I'm really sorry that happened. I should have made them use GUIDs or something.

strong tulip
#

It's never too late to add a uuid field and deprecate id over a period of releases 👀

#

Heck, with people having to revisit their codebases and update their plugins for upcoming native M1, could be opportune timing?

hollow stirrup
#

Does that mean obs-studio will handle somehow when reading scene-collection that does not have uuid?

cyan peak
#

well if we did something like that, I would want it backward compatible of course

We need to consider complicated combinations; scene-collection have uuid or not, plugin has uuid or not. And also combination of multiple plugins with and without uuid.

dark sapphire
#

yep, it'd require some planning & discussion

hollow stirrup
#

I don't have clear idea how it will be implemented for now.

Let's say you have one Game Capture scene and a game capture source for each of your games, is it possible somehow to activate/deactivate certain sources within that scene, depending on which game/window capture receives an input signal.

Scene Game Capture

Hello all. I have a set of "Source Move" filters to move my screen capture around for teaching (zoom into the corners or centre, zoom out). It all works great, except the following: I'd like the next move for each filter to be "unzoom", a source move that goes back to the unzoomed display capture. If I set next move: reverse, on hotkey, it reverses properly. But if I set Next Move: (any other move source filter), on hotkey, nothing happens. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

#

I don't want to use reverse, because if I'm moving around different portions of the screen, I don't want to go back on the path. I just want to unzoom

terse trench
#

Here's the setup (with the upper right filter example). If I activate the filter once, it zooms to the upper right. Activate it a second time, nothing happens. Activate the unzoom filter separately, it works properly.

untold jay
#

@terse trench i don't see any issues here, the "next move" is set to trigger manually with a hotkey, so you have to trigger it manually

is anyone here know how to use point counter luna script?

terse trench
# untold jay <@772648407264133161> i don't see any issues here, the "next move" is set to tri...

I think this is still counterintutive, because the hotkey is just supposed to activate the same filter. Consider the following scenarios. In all cases "UL Zoom" filter zooms to upper left corner.

  • Scenario 1: Next move: reverse, on hotkey.
    • Activate filter twice: zoom upper left, reverse
    • Set filter hotkey to Num-7. Press twice, zoom upper left, reverse,
    • Set filter to Stream Deck key. Press twice: first time zoom upper left, second time reverse,
  • Scenario 2: next move: unzoom, on hotkey
    • Set filter hotkey to Num-7. Press twice, zoom upper left, unzoom,
    • Activate filter twice: first time zoom upper left, second time nothing.
    • Set filter to Stream Deck key. Press twice: first time zoom upper left, second time nothing.

In other words, the hotkey should (IMO) activate the same filter and make the next move the second time it is pressed. This works when as a hotkey, but not when the filter is activated directly.

#

If @weak escarp has any insight on this, of course, it's his plugin

weak escarp
terse trench
#

oh, that's a bummer 😕

#

i was thinking the next move work work when the filter was activated a second time, as it is for reverse

weak escarp
#

you want an extra option next move on enable?

terse trench
#

oooh, yeah, that would be awesome

#

but maybe I'm the only one on earth. There's lots of things that I've tried to do that turned out to be exactly the worst way to do it.

#

I have this weird priority to get OBS out of the way as much as I can. I use it for teaching, and it's fantastic, but I virtually never have the OBS application in focus when teaching, so I try not to consume hotkeys I might use in other apps.

weak escarp
#

you could use multiple keys on your streamdeck, 1 to for each zoom in position and 1 for zoomout position

terse trench
#

yep. That's how I have it now.

#

don't get me wrong, it does work. And since I moved over to Move Source filters, my scene collection is much tidier.

I just misunderstood was "hotkey" meant in the context of the filter.

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm looking to develop a program that uses OBS's "Allow Transparency" in the Game Capture source but I'm having trouble finding information about how that works.
It seems like software rendered applications don't work in the Game Capture in the first place so does that mean that any application wanting to use that has to be an OpenGL/DirectX context?
And then how does a window include the alpha channel? I've been pointed to SetLayeredWindowAttributes but that doesn't seem right because it doesn't support full alpha transparency.
There are a few programs that are able to do this (VSeeFace/VTubeStudio/VMagicMirror) but I'm not finding an example and at least those examples seem to only be made in Unity.

I've got one process implemented as macros but a second one ends up looping for no obvious reason.

The task is to basically check if I'm at the gaming scene and which camera is active. Hi all, I'm leading a project that uses Icecast2 and Ogg/Opus audio as a backend. The popularity of OBS with multi-dest streaming is making me want to get a plugin developed for Icecast2 and my platform specifically. strong tulip
hard jay

!devgettingstarted

oblique yewBOT
#

To get started with OBS development, read this guide.

hard jay
#

You'd be making an Output Plugin

signal lantern
#

Thanks @hard jay 🙂

signal lantern
strong tulip
#

Oh neat.

signal lantern
#

The Icecast devs (and everyone @ xiph.org) are really good people

vivid sapphire
#

Streaming to icecast from OBS seems a bit weird to me, since it's audio-only

#

I suppose I get it to a degree in context of streaming to a video destination + an audio-only destination at the same time, I guess?

cyan peak
#

I'd argue it should be something that we can support, I'm just not sure who would be willing to program in support for it

signal lantern
#

@vivid sapphire Icecast does video too, though my platform will be live music streams, which many people already do to other platforms

#

@cyan peak Do you mean something OBS can support natively?

white latch
#

If you click Show All in the Stream section it will give you all sorts of different places that you can stream to.

vivid sapphire
#

well, every output is a plugin

#

so "natively" just means shipping the plugin with the base install

signal lantern
#

Oh ok, gotcha

strong tulip
#

My understanding is that Icecast officially supports Ogg, Opus, FLAC, and WebM codecs, and other formats are unofficial. Would that have any implications for building it in? As in, I'm sure all the required tools are there for those formats, but presumably that means anybody streaming video to Icecast has to forego things like NVENC unless they're absolutely certain their clients can receive H.264 video right?

signal lantern
#

I would be more than happy to contribute whatever code is developed for my platform, for generic Icecast2 destinations, to be included

signal lantern
strong tulip
#

I guess the thing there is that anybody who used the feature would have to be certain that their audience can access it. I'm sure the vast majority can, of course.

#

It's just less of a stable target than, say, a centralised service like Twitch — one format for everybody.

#

I'm more thinking of the support burden for OBS than anything actually technical.

#

But that's more to do with if Icecast were made "native" as it were

signal lantern
#

'Less stable' only in the sense of it supporting a wide variety of codecs and not just one, yes

#

And basically you're in charge of your audience's compatibility.

vivid sapphire
#

it's also worth noting that, at the moment, OBS does not have a UI to support multicasting

signal lantern
#

Programs like VLC, Audacious, and most web browsers (html5 audio w/proper codec support) can do Icecast streams natively

vivid sapphire
#

It's supported under the hood, there's just no UI

signal lantern
#

@vivid sapphire So everyone who uses OBS to stream to, say, FB+Periscope simultaneously needs to have some technical chops? 🙂

vivid sapphire
#

I imagine most of them are using a third party plugin

strong tulip
#

At the moment, yeah. They have to use a third party plugin.

signal lantern
#

Good to know

vivid sapphire
#

exactly that

signal lantern
#

Though Icecast is http, not rtmp :/

vivid sapphire
#

which is why i brought it up

signal lantern
vivid sapphire
#

you can do simultaneous protocols

#

I suppose it's a bit pf a misleading statement to say OBS doesn't have a multicasting UI

strong tulip
#

Is it the same mechanism that lets the Source Record plugin work? Like, it's just an output stream that records rather than streams?

vivid sapphire
#

It doesn't have it in the main UI for streaming in the way that you expect

#

but, for example, you can output via RMTP as well as Decklink and NDI and virtualcam all at the same time

#

those are all outputs

#

an icecast output would be the same

vivid sapphire
strong tulip
#

I figured.

signal lantern
#

I would assume it's something similar to what someone would do with the 'tee' command

#

That's really good news!

vivid sapphire
signal lantern
#

In concept maybe.... 😉

vivid sapphire
#

OBS can load any number of output plugins, and will output to them if they are active

signal lantern
#

So you just have to load multiple output plugins for it to stream to simultaneous destinations?

vivid sapphire
#

It's more complicated than that but more or less

signal lantern
#

Nice.

Hi Guys, I am having trouble with the advanced scene switcher plug in, after installing the plug in I am not seeing the "advanced scene switcher" option in Tools, I am only seeing the "automatic scene switcher"

Is there a tool/Plug-in that allows a source to sync movements with another source? So that the overlays move together? Example would be a video source cropped to one's Face and the Video image following around movements of a dynamic background.

tough hollow
quiet bramble
#

@rocky osprey Do you mean 2 sources being artificially animated in lock step with each other, if so then yes - move-transition plugin's filters. If you mean one source moving and another source tracking that movement and moving along with it then no. It's technically possible for someone to write a plugin to do that with OpenCV or some other computer vision library, and I know that at least one person has done it for a project a few years ago, but there's no general purpose OBS plugin available to do motion tracking like that available that I've ever found.

#

The closest thing there is to the latter that I'm aware of, is the face tracking/masking plugin included in the StreamLabs broadcasting software, which is technically open source so could be compiled for or modified and compiled for OBS but I've never heard of anyone actually doing that. It could potentially be modified to track other things in theory.

#

I've also heard that OpenCV is not ideal for motion tracking for something like live video due to being poorly optimized although I haven't seen any substantiation of that personally, nor know of what other existing CV solutions that might be superior (and under a GPL compatible license).

Hello there, I've been reading through the docs as I wanted to build a native plugin. As far as I understand it, it is necessary to build the whole studio for any plugin. Is that correct?

#

If my question has already been answered elsewhere I'd be happy to get a reference to it.

hard jay
#

Not strictly necessary to build all of OBS

#

But usually a good idea.

#

There's not really anything to set up for deps for windows though, we provide everything

#

ripe kernel
#

Thanks! I'll have a look at the template. VS2019 is mandatory as I take it?

wary escarp
#

The template should be up-to-date, OBS isn't :p

hard jay
#

oh did the template get updated?

#

Neat.

hard jay
#

There's no reason it can't work with other compilers, but on Windows that's what we expect so we won't be able to assist with any issues going off-script.

#

I think a few people have set up like CLion and such in the past.

#

Newer versions of VS also work fine

wary escarp

wary escarp
#

I know, don't worry OBSHeart

ripe kernel
#

Ok, that should be a good point to start with. Thanks! Maybe you've got the time to answer another question, too. I wanted to build a video filter plugin which manipulates the frames as they pass by (e.g. for the sake of simplicity, set the pixel of the lower right corner to black). The way I understand it, that could be achieved with a source using OBS_SOURCE_ASYNC_VIDEO and the corresponding obs_source_output_video function. Is that correct?
I'm a bit confused with ASYNC term here. Does that mean that the frames will be passed in some kind of random order?

#

Sorry for my incompetence. That functions seems to be for real sources. The one I have to provide in that case is probably obs_source_info.filter_video. There I can modify the frame directly. But my confusion with the async still persists. Does it just mean that the function may be called by different threads?

hearty merlin
#

I'm using vanilla OBS with streamlabs alerts and chat, and sometimes I hear the audio for streamlabs alerts even when I'm not on a scene that has the alerts as a source; is there something I need to disable or remove

hearty merlin
#

should clarify this also seems to happen even when I have the streamlabs alerts/widgets muted manually via my streamlabs dashboard, and even when I have the alert hidden or removed

fossil wyvern
#

if your streamlabs alerts play even when you tel streamlabs to shut it, that kinda sounds like a streamlabs problem

hearty merlin
#

do I have to take it to their support? I figured I could come here and someone would know since this text channel is for third party tools

fossil wyvern
#

well, first of all, do the alert's audio also play though SL's dashboard? because then if you have it open, it will play, even if OBS has the alerts muted

#

secondly does that also happen if you use another alert provider?

hearty merlin
#

they will play even if I have the streamlabs dashboard closed and if I have OBS open

#

for instance sometimes I will receive random follows from people who find me when I'm not streaming/live, and when they follow I will hear the streamlab alert if I happen to have OBS open during that moment (for instance if I'm troubleshooting or testing something)

fossil wyvern
hearty merlin
#

and as I said before I will hear the alert when I'm live and on a source/scene that doesn't have the alerts on it, and when I'm streaming I usually don't have the dashboard open

#

i.e. I will be on a scene with no browser sources and still hear an alert when someone follows/subs/etc.

fossil wyvern
#

one thing I'm thinking of is : did you put the browser source as "shutdown source when not visible"? but as far as I understand it should not have that behaviour even then

#

also could you give me a log so I can see the way you set up your sources, just in case

oblique yewBOT
hearty merlin
#

yeah give me a moment

oblique yewBOT
hearty merlin
#

I'll toggle the shutdown tickbox in the meantime; by default it was unticked

fossil wyvern
#

that might do it, but I doubt it

#

So, the two only scenes where you don't have alerts are the "gameplay and scores" one, right?

hearty merlin
#

yeah

#

last night I was getting follows while streaming a tournament bracket, and on those scenes I don't have the alerts browser sources for chat or interactions so that they don't blot out gameplay

#

but I heard every follow/host

fossil wyvern
#

but you're still getting the alert's sound when you're on them?

hearty merlin
#

yeah

#

I will say, right now I have streamlabs' dashboard open and I'm sending test alerts now that I have the shutdown ticked, and it seems like it worked

#

I'm not hearing the alert sound anymore when tabbed to those scenes

fossil wyvern
#

ok, well maybe it was that, which would lead me to revise my understandding of browser sources

hearty merlin
#

they're also disabled when I have the source hidden while on a scene with the source

#

i.e. I click the little eyeball thing to make it go away

#

so I guess that fixed it

#

I'll come back if there's still any weird hiccups but ty

fossil wyvern
#

if it's that that's weird because I cannot replicate that behaviour on my side, but eh, hopefully that did fix it

hearty merlin
#

I was trying to figure this out bc when the whole streamlabs/obs debacle happened a while ago I was trying to switch all of my plugins to streamelements

#

but I still kept hearing the streamlabs alerts even when they were disabled

#

(and then I didn't use streamelements anyway because it seemed like they don't have a chat plugin?)

#

guess streamlabs is just odd

hearty merlin
#

oh I have to go into the overlay editor first?

#

I'll admit to not playing with the service that much

Question about Source Record, i noticed that I can put it on Scenes as well if I'm just using nested Scenes, would it just be better practice just to still have them on the sources still or would the scenes be fine

strong tulip
#

Scenes are fine

#

Under the hood, scenes are sources

#

So it's really just a question of what you want to record

bold bolt
#

ok! I'm recording gameplay videos, so i have a source record on my Game and Camera, i also had just a 3rd base recording (has cam and gameplay on it but just notably lower quality) i use to help with syncing more or less. I initally had those on the scenes, but then i found out that if you have them on inactive scenes it still... takes the resources i guess? And OBS was chugging, so i was messing around with where the filter should be. I figured I would ask

strong tulip
#

I mean, I generally would want to give OBS less work to do, so I'd have it on the game and the camera, and that's it. Presumably you're getting a composited recording through the normal recording mechanism anyway.

bold bolt
#

Yes, the base recording is the composited one. I have 2 source records for my camera and game. I just wanted to make sure that I had the filter on the other scenes ready for the future when I capture other sources. I thought i could just leave the filter on if they weren't active in the main scene I'm recording on.

#

Apparently not, but i turned them off now and everything's ok now! Just wanted to know if i could potentially clean things up.

Thank you by the way!

ripe kernel
# hard jay There's this you can use as a base, though it's a *little* outdated

Thanks for the plugin-template, it helps a lot to understand the build process. I'm still a bit struggling with the plugin's build process after building obs-studio.

Once I generated the obs-studio VS2019 solution, how do I insert my custom plugin afterwards? I suppose I could just add the plugin files in obs-studio's plugins folder and modify its CMakeLists.txt to include my plugin in obs-studio's build as well but that's not the proper workflow, I guess.

ripe kernel
#

Ok, after a few modifications to the template files (which have a few flaws) and with a little help from the CMakeLists.txt of the obs-websocket plugin I could finally build the plugin. Since the build is separated from the rest of obs-studio, what's your workflow to debug your custom plugin?

@elfin nova Movement controlled by what, and in what manner?

You can move/animate things with plugins, but it depends on what you want to do exactly whether it might be possible or not.

elfin nova
#

I guess like moving it up and down a lil?

#

My avatar looks so static

strong tulip
#

I know how I'd do that using UpDeck, but it would be so convoluted just for this one thing heh

quiet bramble
#

If it is something predetermined, animate it in a video editor. If it is something that is animating based on something occurring live, it depends on what the something is that would be controlling the animation. There is the move-transition plugin which can animate any property of virtually anything in OBS and OBS plugins. You can control and animate things via 3rd party software, scripts or your own code through websockets also. You can also do animation with Browser Source.

elfin nova
#

Well, the avatar reacts to my voice via the Spectralizer :S

harsh topaz
quiet bramble
#

If you want to control movement via audio, the OBS Shaderfilter Plus plugin has audio related capabilities which would allow animation controlled by audio also.

harsh topaz
#

Add multiple filters, move the position of the avatar, and make them trigger one another into an infinite loop.

strong tulip
#

That doesn't sound like a good solution; it precludes you being able to use the avatar in any other scenes

quiet bramble
#

If you just want to jiggle it around, you can do that potentially with any of the shader plugins. OBS Shaderfilter comes with a shake shader among others. It's not difficult to write shaders that can move/scale/distort a source also.

#

modulating the position or dimensions with sine waves for example

strong tulip

Nest your avatar into a scene of its own. Move it up and down in that scene.

harsh topaz

Sometimes, only sometimes, it's better to not over-do something that requires a simple solution :3

quiet bramble

Indeed. Looking back at some of the extreme FX I made early on prior to learning shader programming... I replaced massive complexity with relatively simple shaders. Definitely a great way to simplify things. 🙂

If NDI is not working when the firewall is enabled, but works when it is disabled, then regardless of any rules set up to allow it through, they aren't correct if it doesn't work when the firewall is enabled. It's probably best to allow the NDI traffic ports through in both directions and make sure the protocol is correct, and that the rules are protocol based rather than program based, otherwise you'd have to set up separate NDI rules for every program individually.

#

If you're using the Windows Firewall, you should be able to see blocked firewall traffic in the Event Viewer.

Yeah, which, let's be real here, is an effectively useless implementation of source screenshots.

#

It just does not work for the vast majority of how people use OBS.

vivid sapphire
#

because people want to set different hotkeys per source?

hard jay
#

Because having to stop what you're doing, make sure focus is on OBS and the source you want to take a screenshot of, is a pretty significant ask to take a screenshot, on top of what you said, yes.

vivid sapphire
#

so they want to set different hotkeys per source

#

so that they don't have to focus OBS to select a source to screenshot

hard jay
#

Even if someone only wanted to take a screenshot of a single source, it's terrible UX that source needs to be the actively selected source in order for that to work. If they accidentally click somewhere in the UI and select a different source, now it breaks, and there's no feedback that anything is wrong until after the fact.

#

It's just too fragile.

vivid sapphire
#

would the ability to set different hotkeys per source solve that problem

I raised all these concerns when it was originally implemented, but was largely ignored. I believe the excuse was that adding the hotkey per-source was not feasible because of how underperformant the hotkeys codex is.

maybe i just never noticed it before, its probably the cache for all the events

#

would explain why it has so much activity

dark sapphire

likely the functionality for the page

Let me check..

(also to be clear, the website is what is updating those caches, not OBS itself)

Hmm, because we set the cache path on startup, I don't think you can override it. If there was a way to set it to "empty", it would treat all your browser docks & sources as "incognito mode", which means you'd have to login to twitch and streamelements every time you opened OBS.

For those who've played with NDI and are intimately aware of its workings, why does using network source not show all the frames the source is missing due to render lag?

Hey,

I use the Spectralizer plugin for my stream overlay, but I noticed that for the circle type, the lines look a bit missaligned.
Like on the attached screenshows can you see that they don't quite form a proper cicle, which makes it look cheaper than it should be.
Does anyone know a possible fix for this? Or maybe an alternative to the plugin I use? It's resource 861 on the forums if you're curious.

you could just make your background image with a bigger all-white border to hide it

cedar cliff

Doesn't change the isue that the lines seem to be kinda off-center

peak vector
#

so that the black background does not bleed through to pixel cracks in the plugin

#

Well to solve it you would need to report it to the author and hope they fix it

cedar cliff

I did now. Hope they can improve it. It's a minor thing tho

dark sapphire

it could also just be a scaling filter thing

flat steppe

for reaplugs is the compressor ready to go once you add it as a filter?

dark sapphire
#

yes

you still need to set it up to match your preferences of course, but it will start working as soon as its added

Hello all! Are there any tools or plugins that can extract the Live running clock from OBS? I have a use-case where a process needs to be synchronized with this clock at an arbitrary time that's decided by the operator but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to access it. The MPD stream contains timestamps of course but those are periodic (based on server settings) and affected by latency so it wouldn't be reflective of what the OBS stream clock is actually at.

More specifically, I need to be able to extract the clock reading at the push of a button on an internal tool site

Can we change our server configuration settings to have it be exposed through the MPD file itself somehow? Doesn't seem like it since that would always be afflicted by an unknowable amount of latency.
