It may not be something YT wants to advertise, because you know, processing costs time, energy and money. And 8K displays are not in the majority of viewing devices.

The reason i upscaled is just because I've seen some pretty butchered examples of 4k videos looking like 1080p in terms of quality, and I suspect aggressive compression (which is understandable and all).

YT compression is going to do what it does. People will then watch it on whatever device they have at hand, and likely not even pay attention to what default resolution the video plays at. And those that do pay attention to the resolution may do it for different reasons, like watching at lower resolutions to save data on their mobile plans.

damn. I also went looking for some 8k content and this is how it looks at 1080p. So bitstarved. Blockiness of left hand is wild. At that point just give me a high-quality 480p video. No part of the frame looks like it's higher than 720p. Gonna check out how the 8K looks. now

the 8k looks like what I'd expect for 1440p, and the 4k looks like what i'd expect for 1080p. There's still blockiness and banding but it isn't as obvious as at 1080p.

reminds me of the "720p when i was a kid, vs 720p today" memes. Honestly I think there's truth to them. The quality could be so much higher on the lower resolutions.

But for another purpose I downloaded the video in full quality. when I played it back and zoomed in, it looks more like the game was played at 1440p or somewhere close to that, judging by the pixels without anti-aliasing.

yeah, so the reason that with 30kx30k for example it doesn't break is afaik that if it's above 16384x16384, D3D itself refuses creating the texture and that is handled gracefully by obs which then renders nothing.

but what I remmebered is that the crash itself never happens in d3d, but in the nvidia drivers nvwgf2umx.dll.
So I'm thinking the issue might not actually be in D3D, who should have no issues with those sizes, but in the nvidia part after d3d hands it over to it.

What techniques are UK TV broadcasters using to make the audio have these weird gravely artifacts when they slow 25FPS footage to 24FPS and vice-versa? This is a clip from Hotel Hell which I believe would be 24-25 maybe. The US released of the doctor who collectors edition bluray has the same issue, which isn't present in the original broadcasts or the UK collectors boxset.

If you're not willing to put in the work, then you should probably focus on the things that you find more important.

Using AI to shortcut something you "don't have time for" sends a pretty clear message that you don't really care that much about it, personally.

Find a specific aspect to focus on, like the art or code aspects, and practice that as you have time and learn how to make things in part before you try to tackle a whole project like a game.

it -feels- like has better thermals than when I originally got it in 2022, but the time difference could be fooling me there

but I tested some games immediately before, and then after replacing the old paste with the new TG pad, and temp differences were noticeable

i didnt test the temp number directly, there are already videos that do that anyway, more just to see if the fans kicked up the same and how much heat was being output.

i followed the UFDTech video specifically and the whole process was pretty straight forward. Only part that I got worried about was the pad itself, because I had to cut it to size, as the APU on the SteamDeck is smaller than most of the smallest pads

but i had rubber gloves on, xacto knife, clean area to work with, so I was good there.

Deck doesnt feel any less sturdy than before I opened it too, and yes i did put the screws back into the case

Black Magic Hyperdecks top out at 4k60fps and cost $1000-$2000 new. There are like the big league machines that legit TV stations have used but they have little incentive to go harder than 60fps, and will cost an order of magnitude more besides

Hyperdecks are good recorders, but not great for capture. Still limited by the USB output as a webcam, unless you add additional hardware, in which case just buy a Decklink or an UltraStudio device. Intensity Pro 4K works, but only up to 4K60 on HDMI capture.

so.. this won't change my opinion.. unless AMD starts to compete with Nvidia in processing performance..
but part of the problem there is market share... a lot of applications just don't even optimize for AMD cause Nvidia is like 90-95%
well, gaming AMD is probably like... 15%? the charts that come out showing Nvidia at 95% and AMD at 5% are misleading.. that certainly is not the gaming market share

I have yet to need upscaling much honestly at all for my library, thankfully. A lotta indie, 2D, demos I don't fret the performance much, etc... Oldie but goodie 3D games of yesteryear...

If you don't keep up with AAAs as they come out, or similar high-hype titles, seems easier to avoid upscaling. (Or if you slightly over-specced your GPU and/or CPU at the time you got your parts.)

My indie / 2D stuff runs fine on integrated usually, I play some 3D games so old they just about would too... And my main GPU is a used 3070. Still somehow an OK value pick to get to this day, IMO.

I actually find DLSS 3 to be better than DLSS 4 for some games with DLAA... cause DLSS 4 had major ghosting in the game I was playing but DLSS 3 was pretty much ghosting free

rdna3 just dosnt have the neural stuff it needs to run the ai stuff fast enough

without running into latency issues

you start getting better visuals but far lower fps if you try

but it runs INT8 FSR 4 just fine.. it has a performance hit but FSR 3 really sucked in some games to where it's worth it
people would rather do FSR 4 performance than FSR 3 quality

Feels like someone in management got the notion of "software upgrade tied to hardware upgrade as a product story / public pitch will move more units of GPUs, let's let it play out and see."

Seeing how much hardware Nvidia can move must be hard to watch from a smaller company trying to compete and be a serious contender for top spot, but with like orders of magnitude less cash/resources I have to assume at this point

But I agree, the "cool guy AMD" thing to do would be to make the upscalers run on anything that could possibly run them, and might help their brand image for enthusiasts

I always think why devs dont reduce draw distance/distance scaling/Low LOD in open world games

But now we got crimson desert which has all these things as there are too many pop-in details on screen while moving 😕 which kills the beautiful of open world

Back when people played at resolutions like 1152x864, pop-in artifacts from LOD switching were hard to spot, and even now LOD done right should be difficult to spot. What you see might be from lazy loading, which has a much more visible effect when it swaps low-res assets for high-res assets.
