Kitfox is Tanya Short's company, she's the one that got Tarn Adams to start giving talks about game design and convinced him to let Kitfox publish DF after he was anti publisher for ages. She's also a brilliiant designer and gives some killer talks herself.
Shrouded Isle is also under the Kitfox umbrella, that one is small but very worth a go
it's dark but if you're unbothered by the idea of being a Game of Thrones style ruler and also having to sacrifice people to a literal Lovecraftian-style god that will eat you all otherwise, it's some really interesting strategy

I dunno if it's because of how I was introduced to Songs of Syx, but it seems more edge-lordy than DF to me and has a similar steep learning curve, so i haven't dug into it. Have you played it? Tell me about it?

i'm a few hours deep. it has 2 campaign/tutorial missions that give you a good grip on the basics/very early game. unsure how much of a mess it is beyond 6-7 hours of gameplay/when you get a big city/go to war with others.
UI leaves some to be desired but it's not that bad once you learn where to find specific things you need..
there's a demo of an older version supposedly on steam, but it was also free to play for 4 days that ended yestaday sadly

and UFD Tech wasnt joking about the fan speed reduction. i tested with the Cairn demo which makes the fans go crazy normally, and its much quieter now

all things considered, this was a pretty easy install process. only "dangerous" thing was handling the graphene pad, but i had rubber gloves on so im good there

my hall effect sticks didn't come with the thumbcaps so I had to unsolder them from the normal sticks and solder them onto the new hall effect ones (only a single wire each, for the capacitive sense)
buuuut since the new steam controller (ie steam controller 2026, ie ibex) comes with TMR sticks the deck 2 should come with those too which means good

so these came with thumbcaps, and the sense wire is already soldered on, but for some reason its not "sensing" and the trackpads are still active.
Not a huge issue, since i rarely if ever actually brushed the track pad while using the sticks, but opening this up again to do some quick troubleshooting wont be an issue

They have an A and B switch for the type of sticks, and when i compared it to my steamdeck before i removed the old ones i had the correct setting.

The reviews on board game geek are so bad. Mostly because people seem total babies about it who say it's too scary.
Also apparently in the US version of the game Operation differs from the game in Europe and the rest of the world (except Australia) in one key way. In the US version of operation you make money from doing each operation and you're incentivised to botch the surgeries as you can perform them again and essentially get paid twice as you get paid double for the second attempt so you make more money causing issues through medical malpractice then fixing the issue you crated for twice as much.
This is news to me as you're not paid per surgery in the versions of operation in Europe.

Maybe forgiving is the wrong word but it seems like the OG operation could have more cutthroat gameplay.
Do the rules say anything about trading specialist cards? Maybe the pro strat is to get the most difficult specialist card or trade for it if not and get really good at that operation. Then you can screw up the first attempt and go for the specialist fee. If the other players haven't trained for it they're more likely to fail on the doctor card giving you another chance and increased odds of collecting the specialist fee. They'd likely be more than happy to trade as it seems like you're doing them a favour and then you can blitz through the easy doctor cards lowering their chances of getting the specialist fee.
Rules do not have anything regarding trading so I believe there's no reason it would not be permitted.
Now I really want to play this version of operation it's a whole extra layer to the game.

The NDI set up works really nice. I was trying to offset the delay in audio with filters. I applied Render Delay filters to video sources and matched it with the Audio Track delay filters as well.
This method works for livestreaming as well right? Not only local recordings

I can almost certainly guarantee you that you do not need ECC ram.
It is, by design, slower than normal and the amount of data corruption something like a Plex would be subject to from a RAM standpoint is basically nonexistent.

the primary reason to go for server hardware as opposed to consumer is to use the server-grade CPUs with lots of cores, lots of PCIe lanes and lots of ECC memory
if you don't need those things and you aren't looking for the rack-mount form-factor imo you just want a nas with lots of drive bays
(keeping in mind when I say nas I don't necessarily mean pre-built, though that makes it easier to deal with the requirement of lots of drives)
8-bay nas enclosures are pretty easy to find
I've seen larger but they're a bit less common

My Dell Laptop (Ryzen 5600H,16gb ram,RTX 3050 4gb) has a cheap 120hz VRR panel It doesnt even work properly even if my fps stays consistent at 70fps in CS2 game. I have tried Silksong game at 60fps lock too still it doesnt work but 60/120hz Vsync works well.
So i changed display hertz to 60hz and using vsync π₯Ί.

Current supply hell is ofc incredibly oh no, but it's been bad for... A WHILE
and yeah, vrr range for cheap laptop inbuilt panels... wouldn't surprise me for the range to start at 72Hz
now... sanely designed stuff would run at 120Hz if the 60fps input it's getting is out of range, 96Hz if it's getting 24fps and so on... but we clearly ain't there are we
instead we're getting dumb VRR that goes "Out of range? Good luck"
