Wanna know my story of how i got OBS?

It started one day around 4 years ago, one of my discord friends was live streaming his game on youtube. And i was like “how are you streaming your game?” And he was like “I use this software” and i was like “Whats it called?” And he said “Its called OBS Studio, ill send you the download link” and then i installed OBS Studio. I started streaming, didnt know how to add my mic for a while, but now ive gotten the hang of stuff.

I agree with this and I think acting like this isn’t reality is just kind of cope. Ideally over time people will get better at prompting and the LLM will get better with its accuracy but you can certainly prompt it to give you sources and look them over yourself

I've had mixed experience with this: more recently it's been better at providing legit sources, but more than half the time it either says it's linking sources and literally links nothing, or links something that's woefully missing the mark and not connected with what the LLM said at all. It all requires background work on the part of the user.

And, let's all not pretend we can trust this stuff more and more as time goes on. Google went from being a staple to so awash with sponsored results that it's increasingly more difficult to work with. We all anticipate LLMs will start spitting "sponored results" at us any day now. Right? Maybe we'll be lucky and it will tell us so directly rather than just doing it 🫠

Also does anyone to know of decent soundcards that support dolby digital live? Looking for something used so it isn't super expensive. Seems a bunch of the soundblaster ones do. I've googled it but that returns a lot of results and some of them are esoteric now or the listings are just fake.

The audio receiver I have only supports optical for digital inputs or analog phono inputs. I want to play games in surround sound but optical can only carry up to 2 channels PCM because of the bandwidth limitations. There are soundcards with a feature called dolby digital live which will encode the audio to DD in real-time so it can do 5.1 channels over optical. Soundcard would be about 10% the cost of a new receiver so it seems worth it.

does anyone know a software solution to backups? Like think of it this way, I have my main HDD where I keep thins, and then a second HDD as backup. If I were to make changes to the main, delete some stuff, add some other stuff, is there an easy way to "update" my backup to reflect the changes, without me needing to remove everything on the backup and then copy from the main one.

@modern yoke remote backups have their own advantages (you don't have to worry about the storage yourself) but if you are looking to do something locally I use easeUS todo backup. it was a $60 one time cost and you can just set it to create backup images of whatever drives you want.

its nice because you can navigate through the backups pretty easily within explorer and see a versioning time/date stamp for every folder and file which you can choose to recover

If "running windows 10 or 11" counts as a day to day task, that difference is very noticeable, opening new explorer tabs is very fast (~300 million clock cycles) on 7 but slow (~1.1-1.5 billion+) on 10 and 11.

i just installed PC manager to my PC yesterday and ever since then, my OBS streams keep crashing. in fact, all my network traffic is halted (both incoming and outgoing) whenever i start the stream
from the description they gave the obvious that the software they installed is almost certainly responsible and their network issues are not limited to OBS. I wouldn't consider telling someone to change their encoding settings to be useful for this and directed them to a server that could actually help with their network issues given they are software related.
