Look at how much of that usage is cached stuff. That stuff can be evicted from RAM quickly/painlessly pretty much. It's just there to be helpful if needed, but it gets outta the way fast.

I'm going to update my OS to Windows 11 and strip out the spyware but before I do that, I gotta image my Windows partition so I can restore if it goes sideways. Last time I ran backups I used Clonezilla I think to push the image over the network to my NAS. Slow but effective.

What are folks using to do backups these days?

...I've heard most folks have had an easy time with the upgrade to 11, modulo a few folks who - in earlier 11 releases - ran into issues with how Win11 was handling audio vs their audio setups. So I'm cautiously optimistic this won't be too painful an upgrade.

I found out Windows 11 installs both the EFI and the legacy boot loaders, so switching from EFI to CSM doesn't render the system unusable.

My motherboard defaulted to CSM when I built my system and I had no idea, so later down the line when I wanted to enable PCIE Rebar, I had to disable CSM which causes the OS to not load so I had to switch it back. Very frustrating and no easy fix. MS makes a tool but you need to back up the entire drive just to be on the safe side and I had no way to do that at the time. Second problem was I made the mistake of having multiple drives connected to the machine during install and Windows hijacked the drives to put hidden data on them, partition them and not allow me to repartition them. I was so pissed off.

So when I do my reinstall I'm making sure to avoid both problems this time. 🙂

the most annoying part of doing this for Stargate is that most of the blurays you can buy are likely to come with ruined audio, where the stereo channels are just cloned to the rear channels. So you technically need to combine the blurays with audio from the DVDs. known as the "unicorn edition"
fun fact: the PAL DVDs were converted poorly, so if you get your hands on them, they're actually slightly sped up resulting in a shorter runtime and slightly pitched-up audio. 🙃

I went looking and couldn't find the specific name, but there's a publisher out there who are obsessed with taking old B-movies and preserving them in high quality scans, and the stories on what they have to do to get anything working are fascinating. RedLetterMedia talks about it a lot as well. The tl;dr of most of it is that preservation wasn't really a concern. A lot of times the original masters are just completely overwritten, especially for low-budget TV shows and made-for-TV movies and such.

The slides say non-L4S ("traditional") flows are still better at fully saturating a link to maximize bulk throughput, so L4S might be best for latency-sensitive apps, but large file downloads could still probably benefit relatively better from traditional algos even if L4S is available.

But for latency as top priority, L4S looks rather neat, and it doesn't look like throughput would be a problem either in normal situations. But given it is meant to coexist well with non-L4S traffic, apps might as well optimize based on preferring low latency (L4S) OR maximum bulk throughput the link will possibly handle (non-L4S).

We also made suggestions, in good faith, that you need to get better hardware to match what you want to do, or to cut back on some of it until you get to the spot where your current hardware can handle it without issues. Unfortunately we don't know what the sweet spot is. Only you can discover that. Changing to another software won't change the outcome if you don't adjust your expectations for your hardware.

I am just going to be blunt here because this has been going on for months: you don't really listen to what anyone tells you, blame OBS, and then update us every time you are going to switch to other software

If you want help, listen to what others are suggesting and actually make the changes you have been told to make. If you do not want help and do not want to use OBS, don't....but we don't need an update each time.

Maybe, but if your pc can't handle the game plus your scene collection in OBS, the issue isn't that OBS needs to be optimized. OBS can run on a lot of hardware, but you can still give it too much to do.

All I know is there's a sweet spot. Too little and there's a risk it'll skip around. Too much and you can damage the stylus and the album.
