Might be able to make it support ultrawide if WSGF website has any info on how to hack it. But that looks like one of the Diablo games, so I wouldn't use any hacks on the game if you play multiplayer as it might lead to a ban, but for single player it might be worth looking into. This turned out to be an adventure for the whole day. Couldn't open Discord without the PC going black screen on me.

After a lot of troubleshooting including DDU and fresh install of windows, it turns out the issue was the Nvidia HD Audio Driver. When I updated I chose not to update the HD Audio because it annoys me to have to fix my invalidated windows devices every two weeks. Sometimes I just don't update that portion.

This time, it was the cause of my black screens, and I discovered it when I tried to watch a video on reddit. It was fine until I unmuted the video. Then black screen. So don't be like me and let Nvidia update your HD audio driver.

no, quick access does automagically add stuff, but it usually only does most frequently accessed folders so like if you have a specific folder in your downloads or documents or on another drive you access a lot and recently it'll end up just auto adding it for convenience.

on Windows 11 it doesn't say quick access but it's the same thing on the left, and those manilla folders over there I never added manually. they just added themselves cuz I accessed them so much recently

I have a rule when it comes to apps like that, if I use it and am not doing anything crazy with it, and it crashes within the first few hours for no obvious reason, uninstall, burn it with fire.

Also, OBS helped me hone my skills a few levels higher with this, writing shaders with very little useful debugging information to go on forces you to have to really study the code very carefully and think outside of the box. 🙂

Yeah, first time I used Eclipse eons ago it crashed within like 20 minutes without doing anything exotic with it. Lost data, repeated a few times then uninstalled it. Same thing with a few other open source IDEs. The only actually good IDE that I think I ever used was Borland C++ 3.x and 4.x back in the 1990s, although I used RHIDE in Linux for a few years too.

I dunno about $30 mics, most mics less than $100CAD ($60'ish USD) sound pretty bad IMHO, however above $100 they are baseline decent, and you can use various audio filters (which you're going to use anyway really) to improve the frequency response, dynamics etc. to sound pretty good anyway. The difference in quality between microphones drops sharply as the price goes up, and if you consider using filters to tweak the sound there's not a lot of noticeable difference except maybe to audiophiles doing sine wave hunting on $1000 headset in an isolation booth IMHO.

And for live streaming it all gets mangled into 160kbps mp3 anyway so a $1000 microphone isn't going to sound $900 better than a $100 mic on Twitch for sure. 🙂

And that's not taking into account whatever terrible laptop speakers, bluetooth earbuds etc. the viewers are listening on.

IMHO, once your audio goes above "doesn't sound terrible anymore", it is all fluff.

also, 160kbps CoreAudio is entering baseline transparency stages.. so even if you stuck with the default 160kbps...

although, we are talking 160kbps cbr here.. sooooo.. it can't up the bitrate if it's needed

Yeah, when an app allocates memory normally such as with malloc() for example, no matter what it requests the OS will respond "yeah sure" with a memory pointer. It does not actually give it any memory until the app tries to use the memory, which triggers a page fault and the page fault handler then actually goes to find a 4k page to attach to it. The app only actually gets memory in 4 page chunks where it touches the memory it was given.

Until the app writes something into the memory it doesn't matter. If it opens a file and reads it in, it will use 4kb pages at a time as it loads. If it allocates a 10MB buffer and loads a file that is 6kb into it, only 8kb of memory will back the 10MB allocation.

This is called "overcommit" in memory management, and is the default on every modern operating system.

If you disable overcommit on Linux via /proc filesystem, watch the system performance tank and explode. Not even sure if Windows even has an option to disable overcommit.

A memory leak is just an application allocating memory and then losing reference to the pointer it was given without freeing the memory, so the memory remains assigned to the app. If the memory was not used, then commit will increase but actual RAM assignment will not.

Another element that popped into my mind about the memory commit thread worth mentioning is shared copy-on-write mechanics also.

ie: Multiple programs open up the same file for reading at the same time, and since they are only reading it, there is no sense having multiple copies of it in memory, so the OS memory management shares the pages between the applications to reduce memory wastage. But if one of the programs tries to write to the memory, this causes the OS to duplicate the page(s) and separate them, increasing memory usage.

Microsoft Sysinternals Process Explorer is super useful for finding programs that memory leak. One has to also keep in mind that if a process is leaking memory however that it can be caused by a bug in the program, or in any plugins that it loads into its address space. As such, programs that dynamically load plugins that are DLLs, such as OBS, may leak memory if they load a buggy plugin, which gives the impression the program is buggy rather than the plugin. Mozilla used to have that problem ages ago where people would load 30 plugins and have a memory leak or crash and then blame Mozilla for it when it was actually AdBlock Plus or some other plugin. 🙂

idk if that's a thing. games tend to treat lighting as if you are looking at it through a camera lense (which is dumb imo) in order to make it more "cinematic" I guess but tends to break the concept of immersion. I also don't like it sometimes.

the tone mapping isn't great to sdr but it should be mostly okay.. mainly over saturates areas and darkens the bright areas

Chromium also doesn't display properly in hdr.. in this case, I think it's slightly overbrightening the image.. but it's not that off

Some of the raw reinhard output can be fixed extremely easily from OBS like with a color correction
The problem is I had weird artifacting when color correction and tone mapping were both enabled
But that brightness.. I guess an LUT?

you can use the streamlabs widgets in OBS

you just add them differently than in streamlabs, you need to go to your streamlabs dashboard, click on the widget you want, and then copy the URL it generates into a browser source
