CCD to CCD latency is HIGHER than latency to RAM, for one. Which, uh... ain't great. Core to core latency (while stayin on CCD) ain't exactly great either, also worse than it was on Zen4. That's like one of the primary driving factors behind not really havin any gains in games whatsoever even though the cores would indeed be faster

They added 50% more L1 cache, and did other architectural changes to the cache that in theory were aimed at improving performance and lowering latency. When you look at all of the other "from the ground up" changes they made, also all intended to get better performance... you can't help but wonder... what went wrong? What do we NOT know. Maybe some of those changes were worse, not better.

It's a mixed bag on efficiency too. I guess some workloads are much better. Slight regression in some things, such as a few games.

The problem with CCD to CCD L3 cache, is that they are not connected together as they're in different physical chiplets (obviously), so if you have a multi-threaded application running on CPU cores on both chiplets, if the memory accesses they do are unique (non-shared), then each thread should fly, however, if the threads share memory, then that memory gets cached in the caches of both CCD chiplets, and if they are being accessed read-only, then performance should also be just fine. But if one of the CPU cores writes to shared memory between CCDs, then a cache invalidation signal is sent to the other CCD to inform it that the written to memory that it has cached is no longer valid. The first CCD has to write that data out to system RAM, and the 2nd CCD has to now read the memory from system RAM, thus scoring a cache miss and having performance limited by slow system memory.

If they tag team write to the memory, then they will cause repeat cache invalidations (cache thrashing) which nukes performance.

The same thing is true between CCXs within a CCD on Zen 2 and older.

It's not exactly the same thing but it is a performance hit.

So far any of the issues people have brought up with regards to core parking, scheduler, etc. seem to apply to all Zen dual-CCD processors though, and not just Zen 5, so even if these issues get fixed in the future it wont make Zen 5 leap ahead in performance above Zen 4 per se, as Zen 4 will leap ahead also.

CCD are the individual 8-core chiplets. A CCX is a unit within the CCD, which there were 2 4-core CCXs in Zen, Zen+, and Zen 2, however Zen 3 unified the chiplet to have only a single 8-core CCX within the 8-core CCD.

I mean, actually more reason to buy Zen 4. You can undervolt or watt-limit Zen 4 and bam, efficiency king. I personally see no reason to go Zen 5 right now unless they can patch some stuff. (EDIT: I know you can undervolt/watt limit Zen 5 too, whatevs. Just a confusing launch and I'm coping.)

The Zen 3 change also allowed AMD to "save" more defective chips and turn them into 6 core parts and eliminate the 4-core parts.

Because with Zen 2 and older, an 8-core chiplet with 1 bad core, they could fuse off 1 core on each CCD to make a 6-core variant, however if they had 2 bad cores, they could only make a 6-core variant if each bad core was on a separate CCX, so the chip would be 3+3. If both bad cores were on a single CCX, it would have been 4+2 which would have completely different application performance characteristics. So instead, the chiplets with 2-4 bad cores on one CCX got downgraded to 4-core dies as 2+2.

But with the unified CCD and L3 cache in Zen 3, now any chip with 1 or 2 bad cores can become a 6-core chiplet regardless of which cores are bad, and AMD got way higher yields so chips with more than 2 bad cores were presumably very small, so no point in having quad cores.

Zen 4 and 5 are the same as 3 in this regard.

I speculate that in the future when they switch to 16-core full cache chiplets (I speculate when Zen 7 comes out, 6 at the earliest though and 8 at the latest... or whatever they are called by then...) that they'll have 16, 12, 8 core chips and no 6 cores anymore. Possibly even a 14 core because why not.

And probably throw in dual CCD 24-32 core chips.

In fact, if they use a 16-core unified L3 cache, they might as well nuke 8 core chips also.

Basically we end up with doubled core counts... 12/16/24/32

Cool thing is when that happens, even if they do NOT increase the base level amount of L3 cache, games and other apps will be able to see up to 64MB of unified L3, and get a boost from that, regardless of 3D vcache.

Feels like miniaturization is the only sure thing in their plans. Which is weird because that was in doubt for a time. (People saying smaller nodes wouldn't work out or be prohibitive.)

The 16-core Zen "c" variant chiplets are only very slightly larger than the 8-core ones due to removal of half the L3-cache and slightly increasing the size of the die to fit everything, which was possible due to the node shrinks. Now they have 32-core chiplets slated for Zen 6 timeframe (for Epyc), which suggests they're shrinking things even smaller with smaller nodes etc. But it suggests to me that when they hit 3nm or 2nm on desktop, they can probably stuff 16 full L3 cores on a current sized chiplet. If not for some reason, then I predict they will do it for AM6 when they can resize things in packaging again.

What's interesting is that the Zen 4 and 5 I/O die is capable of wiring up 2 "c" variants at least in their labs, so they've been toying with this for years already.

Desktop users mostly want higher clocks, but now that I'm thinking of it, some stuff that parallelizes ridiculously well might like a mega-core-count, low-clocked ("c") consumer desktop chip... Or Xtreme multitasking / multipurpose home server stuff? IDK.

Well, I'm thinking of dipping out of tracking Zen 5 for about a month or two and chcking when the smoke clears. (If it clears.) Likewise with the firmware patch on Raptor lake/+.

Crossing my fingers for one drama-free launch for Arrow-lake, not that I'm sure intel deserves it right now, but hey I'm sure their people work hard, if it's a good launch then at least the engineers deserve that. Even without letting management off the hook to protect customers about fried chips.

I think a better way of stating it is that desktop users want faster gaming and other application performance. I don't think they really care if that happens because software requires faster single core, or more threads, just that things get faster and more powerful. Over time we are seeing graphics stacks, game engines, games etc. all get much better at parallelizing things. It wasn't that many years ago games struggled to parallelize to 4 cores 4 threads, while now tonnes of theem scale up to 8-cores 16-threads pretty well. I don't think we're likely to see any miraculous increases in clock speeds in the future unless we see some earth shattering rethink of how computer chips are made, a revolutionary breakthrough of sorts.

So increasing performance through better chip smarts and parallelism are likely going to be a bigger deal more and more over time.

And we're likely to see additional accelerator modules utilized along the way too.

As someone who occasionally codes, I dread having to rely more and more on lots of multi-threading for everything. Unless programmer tooling makes it flawless and easy, which X to doubt.

But yeah, more multi-threading is the trend, for sure.

Hmm yeah, the accelerators (NPU and such) interesting angle there, I think the AI label is a gimmick but those types of chiplets might be good for something.

Understood. Unless someone does something publicly in the server itself however, the mods can't know what they might be doing and wont act on it however as they can't see DMs. Screenshots of DMs can be forged using GIMP or photoshop to implicate someone by copy and pasting their name over top of someone else's in order to weaponize a spam message to get someone banned for example, and mods can't tell the difference between a legitimate complaint or a weaponized fake, so they defer to the Discord company to deal with people causing problems in DMs.

So I use a greenscreen and switch between multiple cams in a nested scene. I am back to home from ENT clinic
Doctor dropped some ear drops to make wax wet for 30mins on both ears and then he tried to remove wax but unfortunately he removed only on 1 ear .
other ear wax is hard on ear drum so he told me to use ear drops for 2days and come back .

I've had problems on and off with that for years, and tried everything the doctors suggested, and nothing really worked for me. I watched probably 50 YouTube videos on every possible thing people have put in their ears, anecdotal solutions, ancient ethnic solutions, wive's tales, you name it. Some of the stuff is actually quite dangerous even. Found a doctor who did some experiments with earwax in test tubes with various common substances claimed to help remove it, and the results were surprising as to what actually worked.

The two things that worked the best, were baking soda in water, or distilled water. I don't understand how the latter works at all, but it did. So I tried the baking soda and water with cotton balls myself, and it worked well for me. I followed it up with a good water rinse to get as much of the soda out of the ear as possible, several rinses, and then dried out my ears, then added some coconut oil into the ear to neutralize the alkalinity of the soda as the ears are supposed to be slightly acidic to avoid ear infection.

Been doing it that way for a few years now and it's the best thing I found so far personally.

Like 10 pounds of gnarly goo comes out of my ears. LOL

Oh gawd, that'd make a big mess for sure, and probably lose a limb or something LOL. The trick is to put the jar in a pot with hot water out of the tap in it for 10m to warm up the peanut butter before cracking the seal, then stir it with something that doesn't bend easily. I use a honing rod to stir the peanut oil back into it, works great.

Haven't been able to eat peanut butter and many other things very much for years due to having really bad GERD for like 8 years, but I completely eradicated my GERD a few months ago and have been able to eat everything that used to bother me for years like peanut butter so I'm enjoying making up for lost time now. 🙂

Oh hell yeah, it is like cement at the bottom of the jar. Raw peanut butter sitting for a long time, all the heavy stuff goes to the bottom and concentrates, and all the oil floats to the top by itself.

It's almost impossible to stir at room temp, but warming it up in hot water makes it move around more easily.

They add extra peanut oil to it to make it runnier once it is stirred up, and then you're supposed to store it in the fridge where it allegedly becomes more like normal peanut butter in consistency, but they put way too much peanut oil in it, so I take about an ounce of peanut oil out of it first before stirring it so it is closer to normal peanut butter consistency.

The warm water makes the whole thing softer and stirrable, so it only takes like 3m or so to get it all blended in with the honing rod. I don't store it in the fridge though, just on the counter. It'll be eaten before any significant amount of oil separates again, and I give it a quick stir with a spoon each use, as once the initial stir is done to blend it, then it is a consistency that can be handled by a spoon.

Barely any separates over a few days/week though.

Personally, I prefer homemade peanut butter but peanuts are now more expensive than raw peanut butter so I went with the Kraft Just Peanuts one.

Gotta add your own salt tho.

Tastes way better than the artery hardening processed stuff.

Our bodies need like 3 micrograms or something per day, I forget the exact amount, and the typical smallest dose you can get is 1000x that at 3mg up to around 10mg, way way way more than we need. And some people will take 2 or 3 of them.

I get the 3mg sublingual tablets, break them in half and then in half again which is .75mg, then bite that in half to get around .375mg, which is around 100x what the body produces, but we do need to take more than the body uses as it does not all get absorbed. But 1000-3000x or more is way too much

There are different independent countries in North America, so it varies by jurisdiction.

I don't know what the current laws are as they have changed over time, but when i first researched melatonin in the mid 2000s, it was banned for sale in Canada, but the government allowed it around 2008 or so, but only under regulation.

In the US at the time it was sold unregulated as a supplement, and you couldn't be sure of what you were getting or if it even contained melatonin. Not sure if the laws about it in the US changed since then or not.

What was totally screwy though, was that even though it could not be sold in Canada, it was not illegal to have in Canada, so you could theoretically order it from the US delivered to Canada no problem.

Yes, xylitol is a sugar alcohol, and it's present in strawberries and other fruit also. It tastes almost exactly like table sugar but does not metabolize as sugar, so some people use it as a sugar alternative. I don't use it like that though. I use it for dental care purposes. It is also present in toothpaste and mouthwash as it causes the bacteria that cause cavities to be unable to produce their protective biofilm, so they are vulnerable.

I use about a half teaspoon of xylitol to rinse my mouth for 10-15m after brushing to eliminate bad bacteria, remove plaque etc. and eliminate bad breath. Great alternative to mouthwash.

They've been adding it to toothpaste and mouthwash for decades due to the dental benefits it has, but it's even better to just use it by itself after brushing.

Been using it for about 2 months and my teeth are almost as clean as having a dentist cleaning done, but just from brushing normally and using xylitol for a few months.

Bloodborne seems easier than Elden Ring, by a lot

I like the challenge, but I agree with you. That’s why cuphead is a well balanced game for me, it gives me a challenge, but not too much of a challenge where i quit often

The best way to deal with that I've found is to just go somewhere else for a while. There's always a different place to explore/boss to fight/equipment to get that might help the next time

Much easier to do that in Elden Ring too compared to previous games

Anyone know of any good story games for PS5? Currently im finishing up Cuphead, going onto blood borne, and downloaded Ghost of Tsushima along with Little Nightmares II

I dont think EldenRing is hard game.
Its definately one of the easiest game comparing to their other games.

but if u r new to these souls games it takes time to adapt to controls,mechanics,game concept.

its more time consuming to learn the game rather saying its hard game.
