If it was a TV I would've assumed it's automatically outputting a 4:2:0 signal over HDMI but if hooked up to a monitor you are most likely doing full 8bit 4:4:4

So it's probably not chroma subsampling

You can always tell by just looking at the advanced graphic settings in Windows or if you have NVidia you can see what it's set to in the NVidia control panel

It's possible you just have bad clear type settings though

The default should be full 444 and 8bit for most any display

Anything less is usually because the display isn't up to snuff like a TV

There are others, but Twitch and YT are the biggest players for the most content. But it does depend on the content. I watch live streams on YT that pull down 4k+ in concurrent views, 4-6 hour streams, 5 days a week. Really matters where you cultivate your audience, as well as the content.

so i will condense this, but about 2 years ago I had to get a new TV. But my AV receiver was old and didn't have support for VRR and similar things, so I had to plug my PS5 directly into my TV and use ARC for stuff like netflix and other apps on my TV.

I tried to look for a new AV reciever and specifically onkyo, but at the time they were doing restructuring and was too expensive to ship it.

so because of this wierd set up, I lost on certain sound functions and my audio wasn't as good as it used to be and more importantly there was an echo coming from the audio..so after a while I just had to use TV speakers until I got a new AV

yesterday a thought popped in my head and i decided to change the output from 7.1 to 5.1 and all of a sudden all the issues went away, the sound is louder and clearer and no more echo

turns out I forgot to change the speaker settings from my old 7.1 set up into my newer 5.1 set up 🥲 😅

depends on the project. I've not heard of nmkoder, so I can't speak to that

but OBS is quite a large project, and is multiplatform (macOS, linux and windows), and there are a lot of dependencies. It makes sense to have it as a separate project/repository (at least to me)

I see. Based on a very cusory look of nmkoder, it does not actually "depend" on ffmpeg, the same way OBS does.
This software kind of just talks to any ffmpeg binaries you have lying around.
OBS is much more tightly integrated, and speaks to the libraries, like avcodec etc

nmkoder uses av1an but generally a lot of the dependencies like ffmpeg can be copied in and easily updated without recompiling the code. But other dependencies (like av1an and av1 svt and aomenc) only have a public source code and need to be compiled separately and then copy and pasted into the program folders

The bug was reported to Microsoft. They fixed it, and with the latest version of the compiler, the problem is solved (I believe, fairly confident).
However, on GitHub, they don't use the latest version of the Microsoft VS compiler, its not something they update super frequently, as far as I know.
That means, for the meantime, it is on a version that has the bug. Hopefully it won't stay on that version too much longer.

no, GitHub provides the CI/CD service for the OBS repositories, which is hosted on GitHub.
CI will essentially start up a little windows virtual machine, which installs the Microsoft VS compiler (simplified)

the compiler it installs has the problem. I would have the same problem if my Visual Studio was out of date on my local computer

the issue is just that its easy for me to upgrade mine, on my computer. A bit more complex to just upgrade it on a huge platform like github

and yes, you could compile your own OBS dependencies + OBS, and you would be free from the bug. Its just not very easy to do 😛

lissen, its going to be too long and complicated to try to explain 😅 I still have not compiled since the cmake rework. Even with an outline, I am sure you'll run into multiple blockers, that are not resolved by the click of a button. Even if you do get it compiled, you'll have to configure cmake to look for your custom deps, which is also not trivial.

You are of course free to try, and mess around, and google stuff until you get there, but I am not goign to be able to give you a step by step (that has a reasonable chance of working)

You can, but I think its a bad idea. x264 does it optimally already imo, as for the others, its pretty much all enabled (probably too much).
You can't force the encoder to "use more CPU". All you can really do is allow for a row based multithreading (obs already does), and slice the pictures up a lot (which OBS already does, probably too much).

The reason the CPU usage is not higher, is because it can't. You can increase the workload, like increase the framerate or resolution, but at a given preset, outside of the things discussed, there is not much you can do besides build a faster computer. You can of course tune and tweak encoder stuff, but I'm not going to be the right person to ask there. I've done minimal futsing with aom and svt av1

I think you'd be better of using ffmpeg to benchmark this stuff as well. A lot easier and more reproducible (and has built in benchmarking), and you have pretty much full freedom to do whatever

then you can always take what you've learned, and apply it to OBS, once you're happy

I mean it consistently skipped 0.2% frames when the cpu was barely being used over like 60% with X264 slow or AV1 AOM. Why would it be skipping frames if the cpu isn't even being used 100% to limit this? (the included graphs are the cpu cores being used while dropping 0.2% frames

because its not quick enough. It needs to deliver the frames in a quick and frequent manner. If its a bit slow sometimes, like when there is a difficult frame, or the memory thruput is fully saturated for a bit.
OBS needs to be realtime, you have a very tight timing to complete the work 😅

Good, hug it. Minterpolate is heavily single-threaded and slow as heck on top of that. One or two frames per minute (for 1920x1080 on highest interpolation) is "fast" for it. Meanwhile, flowframes can be real-time for the same footage, and IMO, looks eons better.

I run some of my games at 90 FPS and there's no great way to get 60 out of that without some futzing so I started fiddling around with interpolation. Feels dirty
