grizzled girder
#

Yea dont be breathing that

#

Send it out the window. Don't need fancy filtration unless you are 24/7/365 printing ABS and other stuff you prolly shouldn't breathe (even PLA if day in day out)

#

Huh... lemme look

ember gulch
#

and it was some really old MakerBot abs that needed like 10 mm brims because it kept warping but i eventually fixed it

#

that's the only time ive touched abs and it'll probably be that way for a while

grizzled girder
#

Yea we mostly print PLA for prototyping then final parts get made in ABS or nylon

#

Occasionally a fancy filament

ember gulch
#

dont know a lot about nylon besides it being very fucking hard to print or something

grizzled girder
#

A breeze to print on x1c

ember gulch
#

filament blends and other types of filament are a weird area for me

grizzled girder
#

It likes to warp sometimes. Just gotta get temps right and good plate adhesion

#

I'm a big glue stick guy

#

Yea huh. I think it's used to be guaranteed what plate you got...

#

Honestly I have both and I enjoy printing on the cool plate more. Cleanup is easier, still awesome adhesion every time

#

For PLA

#

Pei gives it this nice feeling/looking texture on the bottom tho

ember gulch
#

i prefer the pei more over the cool plate but if i get the cool plate then it's fine

#

i found this really cool print that you put under the ams and it stores the plates

#

it can take up to like 8 so that's nice

#

Update 8.5.2025:Hi everyone!Β I am happy to announce that the FNT family has grown by another addition. FNT Anti-Vibration feet plate storage under X1/P1 This is the stand that serves as a base for the X1/P1 printers. Thanks to the use of the original Bambu Anti-Vibration Feet, it is a 2-in-1 solution. Noise and vibration reduction and a stand a...

Building new parts, airtac lrm rails, ldo space grey frame, asa monolith parts

#

shit is FRESH

#

Gotta get some SLM printed parts for this A4T toolhead though, the belt tensions are so high that it would destroy it

#

bed needs transferring onto new parts though

empty otter
#

tested out TPU paremeters tiday

#

learned that under temp is not ideal

#

learned that over temp is ideal (5 degrees more than default)

#

learned that more retract distance is super ideal

late trench
#

make sure its dry too

#

otherwise it can mess it all up

ember gulch
#

JUNE 19 MY ASS

#

very exicted

ember gulch
#

ok so idk why but they don't ship the ams with the printer like they used to

#

i think its because i have the AMS 2 pro

#

aka i need to wait until June 19 for it

#

and June 20 for the extra spools since the box only came with one

#

but the exterior spool holder will do fine for now

ember gulch
#

need to find a model that redirects the waste chute to the right of the printer and off my wardrobe

#

i have a bin that ill just let all the waste fly into on the floor but i need to have the model not block the exhaust port

grizzled girder
#

😁

#

U bought a 3d printer for goodness sake

ember gulch
#

i found some models already but like

#

i cant tell if itll be in the way of the exhaust

#

(i need the exhaust to be exposed for a vent pipe attachment

grizzled girder
#

people here can def help with the process too

#

(like me πŸ˜…)

#

and its not hard, trust me

ember gulch
#

i would but i dont have the time atm

#

i have a course i have to do for school and i have to do a bunch of irl shit

#

maybe when i have the time

empty otter
#

remember roblox studio is a 3d modeling software

#

ive exported my reactor and printed it before

ember gulch
#

well almost perfectly the supports were a bit of a pain in the ass but what do you expect with material on material its going to fuse a little
i just need to increase the roof distance

#

but everything else was perfectly fine

late trench
late trench
#

im currently building this motherfucker

#

stuff is loose rn just test fitting

#

it's designed for high belt tensions so the motors need double shear
these are regular shaft size motors so i have to mount them like that lol

#

basically it'll go nuts with speed/accel/scv but ill probs just run regular speeds

#

also i have multiple worn linear rails that'll be repurposed into extrusion backers to combat bimetallic thermal expansion
they're stainless steel so they work

grizzled girder

grizzled girder
late trench
#

"u bought a 3d printer for goodness sakes"

grizzled girder
#

I guess im just confuses lol

grizzled girder
late trench
grizzled girder
#

I'm confused bruh

late trench
#

🐟

#

oh well

#

not a big issue don't worry

grizzled girder
#

Wait no wdym

late trench
#

basically i was like, you can say buying a 3d printer is not the best option, but im saying bambus are genuinely good 3d printers that even i would use lolol

#

so can't judge

grizzled girder
#

Wait did I use that phrase wrong? I mean like "you bought a 3dp for goodness sake [and aren't gonna design a part yourself?]"

#

Nothing to do with bambu or the brand

late trench
#

yeah i know but I'm just saying bambus are just too good, can't blame you if you buy it

#

let's just move on 🐟

grizzled girder
#

LOL ok im just confused man

#

I'm tryna understand what u meant

late trench
#

oh well lolol

#

ive got to build this printer frame now

#

ive got to work on this one afterwards and im not looking forward lol

grizzled girder
#

But fwiw, love bambu and their printers. If you dont care about tinkering with your printer and want something thats the best bang for your buck and will be rock solid churning out prints 24/7 then they are the best choice rn

grizzled girder
late trench
#

cba atp

grizzled girder
#

I've never had a print fail on me on the many bambu printers I've used

late trench
#

they are nice

grizzled girder
#

And never had to level any beds πŸ˜„

grizzled girder
late trench
#

not sure what their torque is like, maybe geared at least

#

test fitting this shiz more

#

still need some slm parts because the belt tension will make it explode probably

grizzled girder
#

Honestly I think modern BLDCs are comparable in stall torque

#

To steppers

late trench
#

eh i don't know much about them

#

AC servos are nicer than steppers

grizzled girder
#

They're just harder to control precisely

#

AC?

#

Those exist??

late trench
#

yes, high performance printers use AC servos for more power and speed

grizzled girder
#

Oh they're fat

#

I was thinking small servo

late trench
grizzled girder
#

Imagining that + an inverter lol

grizzled girder
late trench
#

ok gtg for now

#

sorry but nice talking

ember gulch
late trench
#

Hours later I'm still squaring the frame

#

It has to be perfectly sqaure

#

The rails are airtac rails which are very good quality but also means there's little tolerance for position deviations

#

Otherwise it'll bind to fuck

late trench
#

put some parts on to test again

late trench
late trench
#

soz for pic spam

grizzled girder
grizzled girder
#

how many have u built

late trench
#

this is a rebuild of my orange one

grizzled girder
#

oh ok

late trench
#

this one is heavily modified from the stock design

#

so yeaaaa

grizzled girder
#

so is the stock design a voron? idrk anything about the custom 3d printer space

late trench
#

high belt tensions, more rigid, yea

grizzled girder
#

ok

late trench
#

this has a different motion system

grizzled girder
#

those are the de-facto designs I've seen

#

not core xy?

late trench
#

yes its core xy

grizzled girder
#

wdym different motion esystem

late trench
#

the motion system, so motor mounts, front idlers, y carriage joints, etc, are redesigned for high belt tensions

grizzled girder
#

corexy is cursed btw I never actually understood how cursed it was until I looked into whats going on with the belts

late trench
#

just corexy but vertical 🀣

grizzled girder
#

oh dear

#

why would you want that 😭

#

isn't there much more head movement on xy plane

#

I guess you wouldn't want it, thats why corexy caught on

#

and not corexz

late trench
#

this is my corexz printer

#

funnily enough it used to be an ender 3

#

it's good because it's tighter fitting, meaning i can bolt panels on the frame as an enclosure

grizzled girder
#

huh

#

nice

#

what do u print usually?

late trench
late trench
#

i like to design them

grizzled girder
#

no way bruh

#

this guy prints printers on his printers

late trench
#

yez

grizzled girder
#

self fulfilling hobby

late trench
#

yeez

grizzled girder
#

ok u do u man

late trench
#

i often print ASA instead of usual PLA so I need hot enclosures and all

grizzled girder
#

I will just keep buying printers 😁

late trench
# late trench

i often used this one for even more demanding plastics because it had active heating installed

grizzled girder
#

ok thats very vague

#

they were pulleys

late trench
#

once this printer gets finished i'm reprinting the parts out of abs carbon fibre

late trench
#

depending on nylon type

grizzled girder
#

apparently someone screwed up and there ended up being a lot more friction in the system

late trench
#

like it'll deform veeery slowly

grizzled girder
#

between the belts + pulley teeth

late trench
#

yeaa thas bad

#

will cause print artifacts like VFA's

grizzled girder
#

so the pla pulley had 0 teeth when we inspected it

#

cuz we melted it all

#

and smoothed it

late trench
grizzled girder
#

oh well

late trench
#

under heat***

grizzled girder
#

the pulleys are in service for a very short life

#

I think it was cf reinforced nylon

late trench
#

pa6 or pa12?

#

or just generic

#

idk

grizzled girder
#

I think it was pa6

#

actually no clue

late trench
#

pa-cf is nice but yeah we don't use them because although they'll withstand usual heat they like to creep so yea

grizzled girder
#

I didn't purchase it

#

it liked to warp on the bed actually

#

iirc

#

prolly cuz whoever printed used hair spray and not glue, oh well

late trench
#

yes you have to have an enclosed chamber because ambient air is too cold for it

#

and itll shrink and pull up on the bed

grizzled girder
#

we had

#

all printed on a p1s

late trench
#

p1s with enclosure i assume

grizzled girder
#

they sell p1s without enclosure?

#

oh yea they do

#

yes with enclosure

late trench
#

p1s is standard without enclsoure

grizzled girder
#

I wonder if I can find a photo

late trench
#

textured pei is very good if kept clean
and i often use vm nano adhesive if really needed

grizzled girder
#

pei is good for pla and lower temp prints I think

#

idt it works well for higher temps

#

welcome to correct me tho

late trench
#

it kinda depends

#

and type of pei

grizzled girder
#

yeah probably

#

pla on pei is awesome tho

#

no adhesive

late trench
#

there is textured pei, which is a thin layer of pei on a textured metal plate
and then there is smooth pei, which is an adhesive layer that goes on top of a plate

if your chamber temps are bad, the parts will pull up on the smooth pei and destroy it
textured pei is usually one with the plate so doesn't really happen

#

it kinda depends on what works with your printer

grizzled girder
#

Lol I found this picture instead

late trench
#

i used textured pei for everything. if i get anything as little as a fingerprint i take it out and scrub it until it's clean. it's god tier

grizzled girder
#

oh I didn't even know theres a smooth pei plate?

late trench
#

ye

#

it's an adhesive backed pei film

grizzled girder
#

oh huh

late trench
#

stuck onto a spring steel plate

grizzled girder
#

I've only seen the textured ones

late trench
#

thats why if your parts warp and they stick, it'll literally pull the pei up

grizzled girder
#

they make the bottom side of the part nice feeling

late trench
#

ye its good

late trench
#

it's often 99% user error

#

when that happens

#

"never let go of the end of the spool"

grizzled girder
#

ye it was user error

#

thats why I took a photo

late trench
#

ah right lolol

grizzled girder
#

sent it to the slack 😭

late trench
#

i just have to clarify it because uh

#

people bash manufacturers often in 3dp discords

#

and im just too used to it lmao

grizzled girder
late trench
#

Found a pic of the* original design

grizzled girder
grizzled girder
#

I think we were time crunched, so the printer was set to like

#

super speed

#

ludicrous speed

late trench
#

chains πŸ‘οΈ

grizzled girder
#

also it was printed flat for strength instead of looks

#

last time it split on a layer when we printed it the other way

late trench
#

Lmao I say if a mechanical part works but looks awful

#

Then just ignore it

#

🀣

#

"if it fits it sits"

grizzled girder
#

it split like this prior

#

so we printed with layers the other way

#

lol

late trench
#

Do you use bambu ams

grizzled girder
#

we didn't own one at the time

#

I think they have one now

late trench
#

I kinda want to get into multi colour but it creates a ton of waste

grizzled girder
#

well, single extruder lol

#

purging and then backout takes a long time

#

we don't really care much about color cuz we mostly make functional parts

#

ams is nice just to put diff materials in and leave it there

#

so you can print without human having to back out the existing

#

and swap

late trench
#

oh i do like that feature

#

i was thinking of building a "box turtle" which is sorta like an open source ams themed on voron

#

but it costs a lot

grizzled girder
#

oh that looks awesome

#

and expensive

#

lol

late trench
#

yeaaaa

#

these are cheaper but no spool holders

#

these are quite smart
think of like the filament channels being built as half extruders
the top mechanism can move across lanes and completes it into a functional extruder that can push the desired filament into the printer extruder

grizzled girder
#

Here's where those pulleys I was talking abt went

late trench
#

Wtf is that

#

Some sorta battle bot thing

grizzled girder
#

ye its a highschool robotics competition that I was a part of 2 years ago

#

its decently big in the US

late trench
#

you're doing that in highschool god damn

grizzled girder
#

theres a few teams from the UK too I think

#

but much less than the US

grizzled girder
late trench
#

i like the sheet metal frame

grizzled girder
#

cnc cut aluminum 😁

#

all in all ~125lbs

late trench
#

i love cnc's but they can be hell to own

grizzled girder
#

yea they're

#

fancy machines

late trench
#

but they need damn good accuracy

grizzled girder
#

I don't own one (way too expensive and nowhere to fit it) but plenty at uni

late trench
#

yeah i like them

#

my friends often do parts for me if i really need but i keep it minimum

#

i was actually going to use cnc parts for this 3d printer rebuild but it's a pain sometimes

grizzled girder
#

the sound of breaking a bit is ingrained in my head cuz before we figured out how to actually use the thing properly we broke like 4 bits

grizzled girder
#

theres sendcutsend

grizzled girder
#

and fabworks

#

oh wait are u in the uk

#

if so I have no clue

late trench
#

because tight tolerances and shit

grizzled girder
#

oh

#

just make fatter tolerances

#

πŸ‘

#

when designing

late trench
#

🐟

#

it's hard to explain but it's when everything is fitted together, it can introduce issues like binding and stuff because it's so stiff

#

you have to REALLY pay attention to getting correct squareness and good quality rails

grizzled girder
#

thats what files are for 😁

#

and drills

#

and dremels

#

πŸ‘

late trench
#

with mostly no benefit 🐟

#

so whats the point

#

har har

#

hur hur

#

(im losing it)

grizzled girder
late trench

late trench

reprinting printer parts out of glass filled asa or abs

its super fuckin dense

late trench

dense does not mean it should be over extruded wawa

fix yo flow rate

empty otter

its better on other filaments

this is cf

late trench
empty otter
#

i mean i have orca to help with that

#

i just use a mobile app slicer most of the time

late trench
#

this is tuned flow

#

that is ASA or abs I think i forgor

#

tune yo flow boi

empty otter
#

ill try lol

late trench
#

i came up with the flow testing method with him

#

now everyone uses it apparently

ionic wigeon

ermmmn tuna

late trench

rewiring this mf

#

making new cables for it

late trench
ember gulch
late trench
#

might get a bambu A1 mini

#

because i have 0 printers rn

#

my interest in 3d printing is actually tinkering with them not just printing itself

ember gulch
ember gulch
#

not too expensive yet very reliable

#

i only got the x1c due to the flow calibration and the set and forget part

late trench
grizzled girder
#

NOOOOOOO STOP

#

thats awful

#

ah tbf we have one of those at the shop too

#

at least its all bolts tho

#

no bearings and couplers or whatever those r

#

oh I see a pulley too

#

and springs?? and nuts??

late trench
#

so i can't be fucking bothered

#

i find things very quickly by looks but yea

#

weird ability i now have is to know the dimensions by looking at it

grizzled girder
#

Especially if its common sizes/lengths you work with often

late trench
grizzled girder
late trench
#

i made new cables forgoring about the spacing issue

late trench
#

mmm yes have to route belts through this shit

#

THIS PRINTER PROJECT IS HELL

#

BUT IT LOOKS SO GOOD

late trench
#

Woo

languid dagger
#

just testing out my new smooth PEI plate on my bambu lab P1S

late trench
#

but i kept destroying it

#

don't get fingerprints on PEI or you'll need to wash it with dish soap

languid dagger
#

i didn’t know that lol

late trench
#

you can use ipa but it just spreads the grease

grizzled girder
#

I be washing with soap after most prints anyway lol

ember gulch
#

ive been looking for a way to eject prints without having the door open all the time and this might be it
very useful for our class that prints a fuck ton of stuff in the midyear and we can't do it all in one day (we could with this)

grizzled girder
#

lol

ember gulch
grizzled girder
#

I dunno if I would call that the "coolest thing ever"

ember gulch
#

traditionally you need to have the door open all the time to farm prints with the x1c which can lead to warping since the heat isn't in the chamber anymore

ember gulch
#

like some people remove the door altogether

grizzled girder
#

but I don't think its novel

ember gulch
#

well it's my thoughts anyways

#

everyone has their own situation where something might be useful but not in someone elses

#

eg i manage the printing happening in the class, and considering how full the queue gets this could be useful

late trench
#

i resumed work

#

friend has a business account so he can order misumi parts

#

orange parts will be replaced with blue asa with glass fibre

#

or carbon fibre

#

idk yet

#

either one

#

we made the toolhead out of annealed pet-cf parts and they're strong af

#

they get put in boxes of salt and get set to high temps and they get remelted to be stronger

#

then we may get titanium 3d printed belt clips since they're under high load

#

this printer is gonna be fast af

late trench
#

should I make 2

ember gulch
late trench
ionic wigeon
#

just finished this for a friend

late trench
late trench
#

YEAH GUYS ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENING

#

but they're making me run very high belt tensions which are causing all sorts of issues

#

so i need to replace some bearings which might explode

#

Tomorrow I'll do wiring because uh my bed parts are missing and probably still at my parents house

grizzled girder
#

πŸ‘

#

u should get a job... professional 3d printer builder

late trench
#

all that and other things like stainless steel backers to reduce resonances so i can go very fast

#

aaa

#

this is by far the fastest printer i've made so far

grizzled girder
#

how to tension

#

do u just get progessively bigger bearings

#

I know I've done it that way lol

#

not on a printer

late trench
#

tensioners

grizzled girder
#

oh ok but thats like

#

nerdy

#

thats like if u designed a method to tension ur belts..

late trench
#

tensioners move a bearing along the belt path to cause more tension

grizzled girder
#

nobody reasonable would ever do that.....

late trench
#

anyway they want 190hz pluck tone across 150mm which is nuts

grizzled girder
#

just use gears btw

late trench
#

yes gear teeth marks in my print

grizzled girder
#

just

#

add more teeth

late trench
#

Shush you

#

Goober

#

Yapper

grizzled girder
#

bro someone

#

pocketted a gear

#

on the cnc

#

and I TOLD THEM

late trench
#

πŸ‘οΈ

grizzled girder
#

I TOLD THEM

#

it would snap

#

they swore

#

never in a million years

#

less than 2hrs of runtime later it snapped

late trench
#

yeah uh so u know that medieval tortue device that stretches someone thats literally my printer carriage and the insane belt tensions
they told me i need titanium parts eventually

grizzled girder
#

just use that

#

self shrinking metal

#

they did this but instead of

#

having the spokes

#

they jsut pocketed all the way down to the flat part

#

so it was just thin

#

lol

late trench
ember gulch
#

im curious to see what it makes

late trench
#

we getting there

#

i need to cut a usb cable and put a connector on for the bed surface scanner

ember gulch
#

how many printers have you built bro 😭

late trench
ember gulch
#

Good response!

late trench
#

just throwing it together ATP i need to test the gantry

#

yes i broke a wire ill fix it later

grizzled girder
late trench

noo

#

im not even half done

grizzled girder

u said ATP

late trench
#

NOT DONE

charred jay
late trench
#

raaaagh im just throwing wires in atp because i need to do a full rewire anyway so as long as it gets printing soon idgaf

#

just wiring from memory

late trench
#

raspbian nuked itself

ember gulch
#

least wacky raspbian install

late trench
#

ok i finished making the cables

#

It's printing

grizzled girder
late trench
#

it hasnt even got input shaper enabled

grizzled girder
late trench
#

I'll crank it up later when I tune it

late trench
#

Still slow but still tuning it

grizzled girder
late trench
late trench
#

More tuning, only 500mms on travels tho so we'll see

#

Thing slowing down the print is layer times to prevent overheating but eeeh

#

This is an old roll of PLA since I don't really print pla

#

I tend to only print ABS or ASA

#

Had issues with the printer going into shutdown because the fan was too fast and thought it stalled

#

Just changed tacho settings

#

15k rpm 🀣

ember gulch
late trench
late trench
ember gulch
#

or is that prusa

late trench
ember gulch
#

ui looks similar

late trench
#

I'm pushing 500mm/s 50k accel

#

but i might go 350mms at 70k

#

top bambu maxes out at 20k I think lol

ember gulch
#

oops time to put a concerte slab

late trench
#

Reducing it to 20k otherwise it'll shake itself apart, but can set it to travel at 600-700mm/s

#

If it reaches 50k it should reach maybe 1000mm/s on 30k

ember gulch
#

if so can i see

late trench
#

this is a 9x9 bed mesh using the beacon surface scanner

late trench
late trench
#

so not too impressive lao

#

you dont really want to run perimeters too high otherwise it ruins overhangs and stuff

late trench
#

lights and bed fans

late trench
late trench
#

im printing a sheet to test if my printer is pulling/pushing the toolhead during scanning but seems ok

late trench
#

i couldn't get a flat printed sheet, even with the best beacon surface scanner, turns out the plate is fucked

#

thicker one side and skewing results

#

the surface scanner can only see metals and not powder coating

late trench
#

THE BELTS FINALLY BROKE

#

i cant believe the clips didn't break first, they're made from annealed PETCF so yea kinda strong

ember gulch
#

you just built that thing...

late trench
#

they lasted 7 hours of print time

ember gulch
#

are those brand new or 😭

late trench
#

old belts

late trench
#

to do this to gates powergrip belts is pretty hard

late trench
#

ok it's working again

#

has to go slower due to it literally shaking the floor and having people live below me

#

me when 100% part cooling on asa

late trench
#

I pushed the motors so hard I need cooling for the stepper drivers im not even kidding

#

Otherwise they'll thermal throttle by knocking the current down and it'll fuck prints up if a step gets skipped

late trench
#

@viscid sierra NOT JOKING

#

WIRES ARE A MESS RN

viscid sierra
#

WHAAAT

#

😭

#

so much things

late trench
#

YEA

viscid sierra
#

ooh i see a pi :D

late trench
#

THE OTHER PRINTER IM STILL DESIGNING

late trench
viscid sierra
#

how many do you have :o

late trench
#

just this one and my other one in parts but i needed to redesign it

#

this is muh other one

viscid sierra
#

looks so cool :D

charred jay
late trench
#

it can run minecraft

#

they have raspberry pi's

#

black/grey one has a pi zero 2w and the grey/blue one has a pi 4b

charred jay
#

im assuming power and ethernet

late trench
#

The printers are controlled over wifi but yeah if they're someplace else then I can just hook up an ethernet cable directly

charred jay
#

oh ok they use wifi

late trench
#

yea

#

the black one doesn't have a screen or interface, only usable through network

late trench
grizzled girder
#

wires look good tho

#

I dunno wym by a mess

late trench
grizzled girder
#

um

late trench
#

by my standards

#

I prefer wires cut to exact size needed

grizzled girder
#

clean or messy?

late trench
#

and have it tied down in routes

late trench
charred jay
grizzled girder
#

does this make u feel anything

late trench
grizzled girder
#

the wire bundle next to the chain

charred jay
#

it would be very funny lol

late trench
#

zip ties do their job

#

i had to add cooling

#

because i ran the motors with such high currents and tension that they started to overheat

charred jay
grizzled girder
#

hey they are labelled tho

#

thats pretty good

late trench
charred jay
late trench
#

the toolhead has its own separate controller board as to reduce wires, then i only need 24v, gnd, canbus in and out

late trench
#

the black ones are outputs

#

mosfets that send 24v where needed

charred jay
#

why do you need both motor power and power terminals

late trench
#

because they aren't tied together

#

motor power isnt linked to general power in

charred jay
#

are they different voltages?

#

or is the motor power just a deicated thing with the same voltage

late trench
#

The motor power is just joined onto the main power cables

charred jay
#

oh ok

#

one last thing

#

what would the bed-power be for

#

can it control that?

late trench
grizzled girder
late trench
late trench
charred jay
late trench
#

my bed is a thick aluminium plate and to run dc, i'm going to have a huge power supply needed.
so i went directly with AC power

grizzled girder
late trench
#

u in like mit or some shit

#

my classmates dont know a thing about coding

#

and we're in computer science

grizzled girder
#

no bruh I ain't smart enough fort hat

#

MIT rejected me

#

😁

#

in fact MIT rejected everyone who applied at my school

#

they haven't accepted a single person from my HS in a decade

#

must've really hated the last guy they let in

late trench
# charred jay you are running yours off ac right

So what I've done is hook some small cables up to an output that controls a "solid state relay"
it allows ac power to flow through if triggered
so yes my control board handles the bed heating but not delivering the power itself

grizzled girder
late trench
#

u totally could

grizzled girder
#

atp is rlly good

#

and smarter than me

#

but atp is in HS bruh

#

not even

#

I dunno wth atp is in

late trench
#

i dont know how atp gets motivation to constantly learn new things

grizzled girder
#

yea with that SLEEP SCHEDULE

#

I would be dead

late trench
charred jay
#

is this thing a whole computer or no

#

it looks like it has a ethernet port

#

what can it do with that

grizzled girder
grizzled girder
grizzled girder
#

its always code thats the problem

#

😁

late trench
#

not much, general local applications
it's not very powerful
it depends on what software you flash onto it

it's a control board, specifically the BTT Octopus v1.1
it has the I/O neccessary for handling fans, high power loads, motor drivers, servos, etc, something a usual raspberry pi can't do

traditionally entire 3d printer softwares run on these but the software i use relies on the pi as a host and the control board gets controlled by it through USB signals

late trench
charred jay
#

Ok

late trench
#

can't code for shit atm

grizzled girder
#

medications for what?

late trench
late trench
grizzled girder
#

it'll come back to u

grizzled girder
#

is it better now

late trench
#

I had to cancel my last year of university due to it bu they're letting me finish it off, averaging like 72%

#

it's meh, on my old ones now, but i feel really slow and dull

#

hard to come up with code ideas

grizzled girder
#

damn sorry to hear that

late trench
#

it's like the feeling where u forget a word and you feel stupid/lost trying to remember it
but thats how i feel most of the time now lol

#

hopefully it will wear off

late trench
grizzled girder
#

a friend of mine that I know really well and was extremely smart developed neurological problems (he had a seizure out of the blue one day, then continued to have them), he got on meds that helped manage them but I really think they hampered him or made him less able to pursue what he wanted and reason as well as he could before

late trench
#

@charred jay bed setup

grizzled girder
#

but you saying that reminded me of it

late trench
#

and it's stuck atm

grizzled girder
#

hes doing better now but it was really noticable once he was on the meds

#

rlly tragic cuz it hit right as he was getting ready to apply for college

late trench
#

yeah, people said i was a different person on my worst meds, i could hardly talk and constantly lost balance
i don't remember a THING from that month

grizzled girder
#

ouch

grizzled girder
#

yeah rlly does

#

but hes been getting stuff back together

late trench
#

glad to hear, hopefully he recovers

#

thanks for being open and understanding with me

grizzled girder
#

and you sound like you're on that track too so thats good

grizzled girder
#

ye no worries

late trench
#

i got referred to an ADHD specialist too so thats fun

grizzled girder
#

well I hear insurance is a little better there right..

#

I dunno. I hope so at least

late trench
#

i dont pay anything

grizzled girder
#

its a mess here!

#

oh

#

lol

late trench
#

in uk we have free healthcare but it's degrading a lot

grizzled girder
#

degrading?

#

oh like the quality (of healthcare/healthcare services)?

late trench
#

yeah like getting slow, long waiting lists

grizzled girder
#

o yea

#

im super used to that

#

its the same or even worse in china

#

can u imagine

late trench
#

they told me it'd be years until i be seen by their adhd specialist but they referred me to a private specialist and are covering the costs

grizzled girder
#

1.4 billion people

late trench
grizzled girder
#

I mean its to the point

late trench
#

china is growing quick, not just people but infrastructure, they actually get stuff done instead of fucking about for months trying to find reasons not to do something

grizzled girder
#

heres something that surprises a lot of people

#

depending on the first 2 letters of your randomly assigned license plate

#

that determines the 2 days of the week you cannot drive that car

#

why? cuz theres too many cars

late trench
#

guh????

grizzled girder
#

is it a good idea? kinda. the rich just buy many cars with many plates, then they just pick the car they can use on that day

late trench
#

ah yes of course, rules not applying to them

grizzled girder
#

cars from different provinces (like US states) can't get on city highways on certain days at certain times

grizzled girder
#

have enough license plate variations to cover all the days

#

lol

late trench
#

yea i get that but

#

its like

grizzled girder
late trench
#

general rules don't apply for them because they can just pay their way out of it

grizzled girder
#

I would 100% suggest visiting

late trench
grizzled girder
#

just to experience what its like

#

theres definitely good

#

and theres also bad

late trench
#

yes i actually want to

grizzled girder
#

but it is just so different

late trench
#

people are like china bad but im like
it's not THAT bad

grizzled girder
#

its not rlly bad at all

#

most people are nice

late trench
#

language is hell to learn

grizzled girder
#

esp. people in big cities

#

they see foreigners a lot

#

I hear japan can be kinda anti-foreigner tho..

#

maybe just a rumor/gossip/whatever

#

all homogenous societies will be to a certain extent I guess

grizzled girder
late trench
#

NO

grizzled girder
#

also another funny thing

#

people who were born in the US

#

or live in the US

#

or I guess in any country where you can

#

vote and stuff

#

they're like

#

"how do you live in china you can't vote"

#

bro.. I just.. don't care?

#

lol

#

they ask how the chinese people can sit there and be ok with not voting

#

and im just like.. theres no expectation to be able to (no precedent)

#

so... nobody really cares?

#

we just go about our days not rlly thinking about that

#

ok I totally derailed this but good talk

#

hope u set yourself on a good path and keep to it

#

thanks for the kind words

late trench
#

sorry trying to do multiple things but i am reading, just late responses

grizzled girder
#

Nah no worries I gotta run anyway

late trench

god the x1c is the best purchase ive made in a while

#

i love i can just tell it to print this even while im not at home and i come back to something absoultely perfect

#

i just put a new buildplate on it that isnt even the same material and it has zero issue whatsoever

languid dagger
#

my printer does not have a heated build plate

charred jay

😭

ember gulch
#

this is apparently the best possible orientation according to bambu

#

not something flat, it apparently should stand

#

what the fuck 😭

grizzled girder
#

I would not print that flat lol

ember gulch
#

yeahhh but like

#

it has a much higher chance of falling over when its printed upright

#

its better to use supports while its facing the bottom

#

(i care about detail here)

grizzled girder
#

you'll need to print with supports

#

assuming good tree placement theres practically 0 chance it falls over

grizzled girder
#

you're not gonna get the detail you want out of that print if you print it flat

#

just print it upright with supports

ember gulch
ember gulch
#

theres detail on the top

#

aslo the infill is absurdly low

#

since we're running low on the filament we need for this project

#

(5% gyroid)

#

its a prop so it dosent need like high infill

grizzled girder
#

idt u understand what im trying to say

#

printing it flat means you don't get the same resoluton since your layer lines will be against the detail

#

instead of along it, which upright would be

ember gulch
#

good to know then

#

we already started the print so

ember gulch
#

yeah i wonder why

#

i stg i aint printing shit for anyone at my school if they dont send me optimized models

ember gulch
#

god i can really not express how much i love my x1 carbon

#

i love i can just leave it untouched for like a week or two

#

then if i need something quickly like a pcie bracket i dont need to fuck around with calibration

#

it literally just works

#

i just wish this was open source

#

most errors that come from this thing are from user error and rarely from the actual printer

#

not like this thing is immune to errors but most of them are easy mistakes on my end

ember gulch
