For extra detail, if I add a material is appears high quality for half a sec and snaps to extremely low res, same for the mapping
viewport settings is also set to very high so idk what in the world is going on
is it that the 3d viewport is low res, where the 2d one is normal res?

i have a sneaking suspicion that the root cause is the uv unwrapping but ill double check with a before and after

could definitely be, I mean the squares as far as I see are rather large
perhaps that could be the cause
since well, larger the square, worse the texturing quality
press and hold Z, then use your mouse to select the "Material Preview"
Once that is done, then select the mesh(s) you want to see the uv unwrap for, and go to Material properties tab on the right-hand side (red sphere with a checker icon)
Once on there, click "New"
Click on the yellow icon beside Base Color (Not the color itself, MUST be the yellow icon)
Click Image Texture
Click New
On the Generated Type Dropdown, click Color Grid
Click New Image
You should now have something that looks like the above, sometimes it might not look exactly the same but it will be because of the uv unwrap, it helps diagnose texture density issues and stretching etc

I'll fix it by tmr
there are definitely a few points of key interest I would recommend fixing yeah
mainly the top portion, and the mid portion
where it stretches and/or is solid in colour
i also would recommend when baking to select this
and crank all the secondary rays under each of the common settings
also set it to 4k for max resolution, especially for any larger props it'll be very beneficial

select all objects, tab to enter edit mode, then ALT + N to recalculate outside / flip normals

i would however maybe manually uv unwrap portions to give priority to more "in-focus" faces, as currently the uh
laser face looks a little low res
btw a fun note; each material you create and assign to a mesh retains even after you merge them together
so even though its three meshes
each material is individually textureable

if i wanna be cool ill probably texture it in substance, render it and put it on my artstation
since employers loooooove modular kits

and not just pipes or scaffolding or metal beams
The actual architecture itself, rooms,floors, ceilings, all being built to be snapped together on a grid

the bunker is directly inspired by far cry 5, which uses a modular kit for all region bunkers
That only makes sense if you do a higher poly detailed mesh to bake onto the low poly
Otherwise just bake it without HP to LP

also for something as big as that if you dont wanna bother doing complex stuff with uvs id recommend using multiple 4k textures for good texel density, though that isn't as performant as smartly using uvs

I've looking into it and you absolutely do not have to do that, just press bake by itself without checking anything if you have just the model
Apprently that checkbox is for wanting to align the high poly and testing it by baking the low poly alone
some buttons 
reactor is very much a stand in model also. way too similar to the DMR for my own personal liking

how do I texture paint something
in blender
how do I get the UV map as an image that I can design on separately
how am I even supposed to texture this
Step 1: Aquire a 3D texturing software
(Preferably Adobe Substance)
Be careful if youβre gonna go through the Caribbean to get it, try to not get a virus.
Can any art program work if the texture isn't super complicated
fix ur uvs first
- for hand painting i wouldn't say so, if your uvs are simple enough sure, but at that point paint in blender
- for pbrs, no, no, and no. use a free 3d painting software, or texture in studio by separating your mesh before exporting and using different pbr materialvariants
I mean they show up as squares just fine
