"related-tech" is not an intuitive channel name for protocols like Z-Wave, Matter, Zigbee, etc.
Also I don't think it makes sense to throw them together with Node-RED (automation) and analytics

Where do we "chat" about specific things now? ie wanting to ask about stuff relating to one of the old chat channel subjects which are now "support forums". If you don't really need support and want to just talk/chat about something relating to it. using the forum format for such things seems to be less than ideal in getting visibility and conversations flowing.

yeah but my point was, its not support related. noone is going to wade through all of the potentially hundreds of semi-relevant forum posts on each channel to find something vaguely relating to the thing someone wanted to talk about.
I get that you are on here all of the time so you see a lot more chat about stuff than i do, so you presumably know that there is a lot of chat about a subject that wouldn't really fit into a forum format

ok, well, I've just looked through the different "forums" and I see in the related-tech one they have created a "Generic Zigbee discussion & chat" for stuff related to zigbee that doesn't really belong in its own forum post. So if there is such a thing in each group then that pretty much resolves the issue. (y)

Zigbee2MQTT for example can be an add-on, but doesn't have to be. But it isn't an integration itself - it uses the MQTT integration

also, i do have one big issue with having such general topics, since discord dosnt allow you to mute based on tags there is no way for someone who is able to provide support for, say, cameras, to get notifications about new camera threads without also getting spammed with all the other hardware threads. this is even more of an issue for related tech

Completely new to home assistant, i put the image on a Raspberry Pi 4 (using a USB Stick), booting up in the logs it says:

I used version 13.1 image. Since I have not even touched anything on the installation, I am unsure even where to start with this. I searched, but only found something related to a revese proxy (which I don't use). Since I am new to this, what is the best place to get some ideas what to do here?

I've detected that when playing a video stored in the media folder through the media browser, depending on the size of the video, the "connection" to HA is lost/freezes temporarily but only when accessing remotely via the NabuCasa Cloud either on the companion apps or any browser. I guess this is related to the HA Cloud service but it is not related to an error connecting to my HA instance itself so I didn't know where to ask about this

None of my daily utility meters reset properly on their cycle at midnight last night. They all went to 0 at 12:00 as expected, and then all bounced back to the previous value about 90 seconds later. I've posted on the HA Community forum, but keen to see if anyone here has any ideas

I have two phones that are the same model registered in HA. I want to send a notification to both of them. When I send the notification in an automation, it only shows up on one of the phones. I tied to give it a target with the name on the phone, but it still does not get out to the spiffed phone. Can anyone help me. Looking for very specific help with a Home Assistant/Node Red problem. I need persistence; I know I need to edit settings.js; There seem to be as many different locations for this config file as there are versions of Home Assistant - there are many files with that name in my Home Assistant/Node Red supervised installation but I can't find the right one with any confidence.

Sometime ago, I created what I think was a light group called : light.living_room_lights which I can view through the dev console. The issue is, I can not find it in my devices or entities, I basically reset a bulb and the "Scheduler" integration no longer fires that light on and off and it's becuase that entity needs to be adjusted I think. Would this be in the "Integrations" or "Automations" or? It's a third party integration but not related to it as it relies on that entity alone. Nevermind, I found it. (DOH!)

Hi!
I am facing since 2024.8 an issue with my HA running on Proxmox:

Once I edit and save a dashboard page the system frontend is getting disconnected (seems to restart) and I can see an "Out of Memory" message at host.

The HA instance has 4GB memory and 2 Cores assigned. Also in System monitor I cannot see that system is running our of memory, max 60% is used.

Log files home-assistant.log.1 / home-assistant.log don’t show any obvious issue.

Any idea how I can locate a potenital source component/card/addon being responsible for that issue?

Any advise is appreciated!

Ah... developing a custom card. Head to "Channels & Roles" at the top and select "I want to contribute dev skills to Home Assistant!".
You will get the Developer role and access to the according channels.

Not sure what has happened with my HA setup, I am getting a minute long "loading data" splashpages. once loaded, it functions at normal speed. Hi.
Im trying to track down helpers that Im not using anymore anywhere.
At first I thought this was simple as checking Related for every helper. But then quickly noticed that if helper is used in template its not shown in Related items.

Is there some other way I can check if helper is being used somewhere?

I need some help with brainstorming. In specific rooms that get crunchy much more frequently than others, (eg Kitchen, bathroom, living room) I want to install a physical, tactile button that I can press to tell my Valetudo bot to either just vacuum, just mop, or vacuum & then mop that particular room. What would be the best channel to discuss this? I'm not sure what the best hardware to use would be (a zigbee button? A zigbee remote with multiple buttons? An 8-button Zwave pad?), how to set the automation up (single click = vacuum, double click = mop, something else?) and how to make sure things queue properly (eg if I ask it to vac the kitchen, and then 5 mins later, ask it to vac the bathroom, how do I ensure that the tasks get queued properly?)

My question is related to if home assistant goes into some kind of sleep when it has not been in used in a while, and if it is possible to prevent it. I have encounter that e.g. Terminal/SSH addons have suddenly stopped working, as well integrations fired events every 5 minutes is suddenly not effective.

Hi. Where should I post this kind of question: "Moving home-assistant_v2.db to a place where FULL backup won't take it in a context of HA OS on proxmox VM"
More details:
I have HA running on proxmox VM. Now I want to split home-assistant_v2.db ~16 gb file file from config folder. When I search of how to move home-assistant_v2.db what I find is like million articles of moving from sqlite to maria DB, postgre and etc.
But I read that latest HA updates was really slow for non sqlite DBs. And I don't mind still keeping sqlite one.
What I tried?

  1. Moved file to shared/database/home-assistant_v2.db then configure recorder to point to sqlite:////shared/database/home-assistant_v2.db. This kind of works, but full backup still includes this DB and I can forget to do partial backup and uncheck shared folder, which would eat up rest of my HDD space.
    2 Tried moving file to following locations:
    mnt/data/supervisor/database (sqlite:////database/home-assistant_v2.db)
    /mnt/data/supervisor/backup/database (sqlite:////backup/database/home-assistant_v2.db)
    But upon starting core database was not retrieved 😦 Not even sure which logs to check to understand what gone wrong
  2. Tried attaching new raw disk to HA VM in proxmox (raw disk image). The only way I could see that new disk was in config->storage->move data to disk. But I don't want to move all data :-). Is it posible to initialize that raw disk and symlink it somewhere where recorder could have access plus excluding DB from full backups. This wau I couldalso split my proxmox backups of Full HA disk (daily) and home-assistant_v2.db disk backup (once a week or even more rarely)

My HAOS install became unresponsive last night. I restarted and the CLI shows the normal "banner" listing OS version and URLS but the Web GUI is not reachable and non of my automations are working. I've checked "ha core logs" and don't see any errors. Where do I go for help?

Hey folks, new to HA but so far really enjoying it! I have a Home Assistant Green with a static IP address. About 50% of the time, I can connect to HA locally via iOS or Windows Chrome, however, the other 50% I'm unable to connect locally and need to use the HA Cloud URL (FWIW the cloud connect has always worked).

Hi, hope it's the right place, I have a question about frigate, im running HA in a virtualBox, the host is ubuntu. I installed frigate add-on and connected 2 cameras, it's all working, I can see the live feed from the frigate tab on the left menu.

I wanted to integrate the view to my dashboard so I installed frigate-hass-card the card is not recognising my hikvision cameras only reolink via the reolink add-on I installed and not via frigate, seems frigate is not exporting the camera entities, What should I do? can I manually create the entities?

unsure on where to post with this, i'm trying to setup my reverse proxy for home assistant with npm, and the proxy works, just home assistant keeps giving me A request from a reverse proxy was received from 192.168.1.168, your HTTP integration is not set-up for reverse proxies in the logs, but the ip is clearly in the config and i've double checked so many times to make sure it's alright. here's my config

My backup size is 14.0G - my database is only 1.3G though. I have almost nothing in the /share or /media dirs.

In unpacking the backup, I see the database is by far the biggest part of it.... Still only 1.3G. Compressed to 0.38G.
How can I find where this size (13G+) is coming from and reduce it?

Good day. Trying to use "History explorer card" - have it installed, played a little with it. Hello, I have a NONE HomeAssistant question, but hoping some of you could point me in the right direction. It has to do with Hue Emulators, Tasmota and Alexa/Echo Devices. Trying to find out where HUE information is stored. If I delete devices from Alexa app, then take devices physically ofline, when I ask Alexa to find new devices it finds them again, even though they are off line. My overall problem is much more complicated than that, but a great spot for me to continue troubleshooting would be to know where the Hue info is stored.

Since most recent update after about ten minutes I loose connection through companion app. Then about 2-3 minutes later this shows up in cli... unplug and replug blue and it restarts and works for about ten minutes.

I have an issue with updating HA on my HA Yellow (that's run fine for about a year) and checking for addons, adding new addon repos and so on. I've narrowed it down to the HA Supervisor reporting that it's offline. Running ha network info | grep internet returns:

host_internet: true
supervisor_internet: false

...which is odd. The TXT file it uses to check for online state is available, and everything else in HA is working fine.

I have some problem getting data in HA from my new Tuya temp/humidity sensor which use Bluetooth to transmit data. The sensors show up in HA devices with entities, all entities have the value "unavailable" in the developer tools' state tab

This is what I did so far:
Installed the Tuya app via Google Play on my smartphone, added the sensors, renamed them. The values are nicely displayed in the app.
Installed the Local Tuya integration via HACS
added the Tuya integration (the sensors were imported)

I should mention that I have got a ESP32 on the same network acting as a BT proxy for my XIAOMI BT temp/humidity sensors.

Any input on what went wrong?

Hello team. I am running HAOS in a VM on a machine with KVM capabilities. I have a sonoff dongle in USB that I attach to the VM for the Zigbee2MQTT add-on, except that sometimes the HAOS VM stops detecting it, despite it still being attached. When that happens, the Zigbee add-on stops working.
I created a xml file to run with a virsh detach-device then attach-device, and it works. I would like to monitor and automate that, so that when the add-on stops working, I can run my script and restart the add-on. I'm not sure where to start (as in, should I automate that from HA or from a shell, and if so, which one?), and I'm not sure where to post to figure out the best way to achieve this. You can create a script ( #1284980040940912641 can help ) and call that in an action of a card ( #1284965988642590891 can help with that part, if needed).
There is also the option to create a button entity with #1284966664357810196 - but that would be more complex.

Hi all, automation noob here, trying to veer a project from a proprietary solution to Home Assistant (no hardware bought yet).
I am mostly interested in Energy Management and Temperature Control. I have solar panels, a heat pump and floor heating/ceiling cooling installed and running. Some wires already laid for temp sensors/thermostats in the rooms. Will probably add some security cameras to the mix.
Where should I start asking for directions? I will need help with choosing the hardware, the software and what the configuration will look like.

Hey, i'm trying to use a Broadlink RM4 Pro to turn on/off my heater whenever a PIR sensor detects movement and the temperature in a room is below a certain threshold. After struggling with raw python commands i've decided to send Python commands to home assistant instead, and then have home assistant control the actual IR blaster (I've gotten home assistant to be able to control the blaster), but i can't make it work together with my python scripts... I keep getting either code 500 - server errors or 400 - bad request errors.
Trying to set up the python (and if needed home sassistant) on a raspberry pi so i can have it running 24/7)

Hello. I've got an ODROID M1S with HAOS installed. I've got Scrypted installed as an add-on and am trying to get its rockchip-essentials plugin installed an running. One of the things it needs is access to /dev/rga and /dev/mpp_service, but those don't seem to be exposed by the HOAS that came installed (courtesy of AmeriDroid). What's the right channel to see about if those are available, and if so how to expose them?

I want to filter an entity. Rather than create a new entity, I've seen code which uses the homeassistant: customize: section of configuration.yaml to add a filter and a value_template to the existing entity. However adding filter or value_template there does not appear on the documented list of options in the doco at home-assistant.io/integrations/homeassistant.

I'm setting up home assistant for Halloween. I've dedicated a laptop to play sound effects in loud speakers. Now I need to control some sort of media player on that computer that can play multiple sounds simultanously, control volume and even stop certain effects - all controlled by automations in HA. Hi all, i have HACS and other integration through HACS installed on my HA vm and today i noticed that my lights were adjusting to my Adaptive Lighting integration, then i perseeded to notice my icloud3 integration wasnt logged in, after some investigating i restored to old backups/ reinstalled HACS/ reinstalled integrations/ the whole 9-yards

what i think im noticing is in the add-on section HACS isnt up and running adn when i start it then leave the page and come back its back to not running.

not sure whats going on.. any ideas?

Hi, I am a Frontend developer who is new to working with HA. A family member has HA running on a Raspberri Pi. He want's to create an external dashboard, accesible by logging in to a website, where he can see the current state and trigger it from distance. For example if the device is on/off and toggle the divice on/off. I've read into the REST API/Websocket documentation and used Postman to have a look into these. But still I have no idea where exaclty to start and using Google makes me go into rabbit holes very easily (for example I looked into using webhooks as well, but not sure if I need to make use of these). What I need is instruction/examples/documentation how to use REST API/Websocket from HA in a (seperate) Front-end Application (I will be working with Angular). I recently installed home assistant again, and there is a new feature that wasn't available when I used home assistant before: network storage. I have SMB shares for each user in my household. I can add them without issues to home assistant and browse them in the media browser, which is amazing. But is there any way to limit access to a network storage to a specific user? So that each user only has access to their own network share?

Just learned that there's certain CSS variables (e.g. dialog-backdrop-filter) that only work when specified in the 'user theme', but not in the dashboard-specified theme.
I find that very surprising and confusing, and would like to learn more about what the reason for this differentiation is, and what other variables this 'rule'(?) applies to.
I don't know where to look. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/frontend/ doesn't really mention the 'user theme' and its intricacies at all.

For the past few days, my HA has been disconnecting and reconnecting at random times. When I get the chance to I check out the logs to see what the issue/s could be. I’ve removed/disabled some integrations/devices. But even now, I can’t access HA. I always get either the error: Could not connect to the server or a message about the SSL.

Pretty new to the whole process. Loving when it works, but I can’t diagnose the problem when I can’t access the logs. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm running HA within a Proxmox VM and just returned from vacation yesteraday, when I recognized my zigbee connected devices stopped working. I checked the integration and found the situation as shown on the attached screenshot.

First thing I did was installing a couple of updates incl. the coresponsing reboots (from the past two weeks, eg. HA Core, etc.) to ensure to have everything on latest version but the issue remained. Afterwards I shutdown HA completly, brang Proxmox to the latest version as well and fired up the HA-VM again as well; still no joy.
I checked within Proxmox, the dongle is recognized:

Hello, I'm not sure where to post my question. I have been working with Zooz support and they confirmed the issue is soley with the Home Assistant platform. They were going to follow up with the Z-Wave JS team, but asked that I post here with my issue.

I have the Zooz Universal Relay ZEN17 800LR
I have to set Parameters 2 & 3 to "Garage door Mode (momentary Mode) for relay and door sensors".

I am then supposed to toggle Parameters 10 & 11 off, but 10 & 11 won't save the setting.

My mature install is partially borked. When I try to get to /config/dashboard I get "Error while loading dashboard" and I see a javascript error in dev console. I can go to /config/system but some of the others are dead as well. I still have access to Vscode. Is there a way for me to remove hacs plugins through vscode?

What do everyone think about a bounty-based request system for features?

I'd love to support a vector of the project I am interested in being developed, and am sure there are plenty others interested, that will chime in with coffee or lunch money. And when there are tens (or hundreds) of supporters/requesters for a feature, this will stack up pretty quick, giving incentive of open-source coders to contribute, and take (or share, if multiple) the bounty...

Someone smarter ( and more well-versed in coding/pulling/merging/forking, whatever it is called 😄 ) than me can iron out the details who gets the bounty and in what percentage if multiple contributers, but I guess it's feasible.

I am thinking of Home Assistant platform of course, but this could be adapted to any open source project with large following I guess.

I thought about starting it up as a platform, and paying someone to make a platform out of this, but my expertise is outside of code management, so I'd like to donate the idea to the badass open source coders out there, and the Home Assistant team that made the best piece of home automation software, hands down.

New to all of this; I have a basic setup at present and not sure which channel would be appropriate to ask this in. One thing I'm struggling with is trying to set up a dashboard card to use my Alexa devices to do an Announcement/Broadcast with an input field for what I want announced.
I have Alexa Media Player, Piper, and Wyoming Protocol installed . My Alexa echo devices are detected devices.

I've been using Team Tracker on Edge for a couple of months and it has worked well. Suddenly, today, when I go to the dashboard it says the Team Tracker Card does not exist. Hello everyone,

I'm looking to completely rebuild my smart home, which I set up previously but haven’t maintained since moving. I used ioBroker in the past, but as Home Assistant has a significantly larger community and seems more future-proof, I’d like to make the switch to Home Assistant.

My current setup includes Philips Hue for lighting, Tuya for smart plugs, Fritz DECT 301 thermostats for heating, Switchbot Meters for climate monitoring, and Homematic IP door and window sensors (via RaspberryMatic). I also use various Amazon Echo devices for voice control and SONOS speakers for audio output.

I have installed Home Assistant on a Proxmox VM and pre-ordered a Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1, which I plan to integrate into this setup.

Since I’m starting entirely from scratch, I’d appreciate any guidance on the best approach for a clean setup:

  • Should I remove the configuration for Philips Hue dimmers/motion sensors from the app/bridge and manage everything in Home Assistant?
  • Should I remove all devices from Amazon Alexa and use Alexa only to control Home Assistant entities?
  • Are there any general best practices or comprehensive resources for starting fresh? I’ve only found specific inquiries on this topic, but no broad guides.

I need help with finding a PoE light indicator that works with HA. If I want statistics in HA's own history charts for more than 10 days on certain devices and sensors, I have read that there are various database server integrations for history storage such as VictoriaMetrics, Influxdb, MariaDB, however it is unclear if they actually provide graphs and history to just HA's own, or if they require Grafana or similar??
Also means that Long Term Statistics exist but a little unclear exactly what to do then??.

Hi there. First timer here. I’m looking into home assistant to replace my DIY Arduino based lighting system at my home which, after working for more than 20 years without problems, has finally died. I believe my case is one of a kind since I followed a rather unusual approach. All my light circuits lines are centralized in a single location of the building. And all the switches in my house are actually push-buttons wired with CAT-6 cable that also reach the same location where the light lines are. When you click and release a push-button (say the kitchen switch) a derivation to ground is made on one of the Arduino board input pins (they’re fed with 5v and a pull up resistance) and the Arduino then, via logic, activates a relay that lights the kitchen lights. All this is wired on a DIY board with an array of relays that interface with the 5v signals from the Arduino and the 220v of the lights. I don’t want to rewire my light switches with 220V cables as that would be too much work. I’d like the architecture to remain the same, 5v signals in the switches that serve as inputs for a device that, integrated with HA would manage my lights. Any idea of where should I look for solutions or where to post this? Thank you in advance.

Where should i go to figure out more about entities? I want to have an entity that reads the energy usage on my plug, and can then decide whether or not the item plugged in is on. (ex. < 5watts is off, >5watts is on). Then I can use that entity as a card in my home page.

I'm trying to unify the "day" and "night" modes of my xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light (light.yeelink_ceiling20_c1ab_light) in Home Assistant. Each mode has a separate brightness scale (night mode ranges from 1-50% brightness, and day mode from 50-100%), which makes smooth transitions challenging in automations or blueprints.

I have a problem with an (admittedly pretty newly developed) integration. I get "No space left on device" error once it fetches data. However googling around I am seeing many people with similar errors, and I wonder if it is more of a core issue. My HA is running on a generic x86-64 installation with 8% space used (102gb left) according to HA, so I don't thing the error is correct. Anyone with a clue where this should go? I already made an issue on the integration github repo. Can this error be a result of data being fetched too quickly so HA can't store it and the RAM/buffer fills up or something? My machine is pretty beefy compared to an RPI or similar so I would be surprised if that is the case though.

403: forbidden ! I had a powercut and when the Home Assistant Green came back online I get this message. I cannot connect via Duckdns on my PC or iphone. The system still runs but I have no access. . I googled the issue and found

This is too technical for me, so I connected the HomeAssistant green directly to my PC hoping to access the file system and find the ip_bans_yaml file and edit it and then resave it, but my skills from 40yrs ago seem out of date. If you do this, you end up with >ha and a very limited set of options. Old things like “cd/, dir, list, mdir etc don’t work.

I tried to use PuTTy – but I have not set the Green up for that...even using 22222. I have no idea how big the 403:Forbidden problem is, but as it stands I have only my automated things working. I am loathed to reset the whole thing to factory settings, if that is possible. Any help would be gratfully received - I bought this because I am useless at making things work and thought this would be perfect for a non technical person.

I have a UniFi network. I need some help with firewall rules. I have several networks / VLANs set up, and I am struggling having Home Assistant (on my main network) see all of my IoT devices (on the IoT network). I don't know of an easy rule that would allow the main network / HA to see these devices. When I add the devices via IP addresses to HA, it finds them, but it does not find them automatically, which I think is due to a firewall rule. Hello, i just activate route 53 within Home assistant and i realize that the plugin only work if the route 53 on AWS is configured with simple routing policy. When i activate a geolocation policy to my record, the Home asisstant route 53 integration give an error. Where should i go to request or a feature or a bug fix regarding this?

If you think an upgrade broke something then:

  1. Downgrade to the previous version to check if it works correctly there
  2. If it does then change the logger settings for that integration to debug
  3. Upgrade to the new version again
  4. Look in the logs for errors
  5. Open an issue, following the template provided and including the log information

I don't know where to start with this, but can someone point me in the right direction? I am interested in getting the readings from my water meter into HA dashboard ( or even into grafana if it's not possible to get it into HA ).

The water meters look like this and I am based in Germany.

Hi, hopefully this is the correct place to post this. (if not, apologies). It has been driving me nuts all day. I'm sure it's something simple but not sure what it might be.

I woke up this morning and for some reason my dashboard in Chrome and Microsoft Edge are stuck in Russian. However, my login screen on Firefox and Safari is fine. I’m on a Mac but when check Chrome on my Windows machine, things seem to work fine.

This leads me to believe that there is an issue with the language set in the browser. Not sure why it would change all of a sudden, I went to bed and it was fine. When I go into Chrome → Settings and look at Languages (chrome://settings/languages) , I have one language set and it’s English (United States) as you can see below.

I thought maybe it was a cookie issue so I blew away all the cookies and history on my profile in Chrome and nothing changed.

I've got the old Zwave ZW3005/GE12724 dimmer switch that worked fine with Smart things; however, with Home Assistant and the Zooz 800 Zwave usb stick, when manually turning off the light, HA doesn't capture it turning fully off due to the slow ramp down (1-2 seconds to actually turn off). This leads to HA showing the light still on but it's actually off. I've done research on this but haven't seen a good solution yet. Any thoughts?

Im not sure where to post this.

I have a device that comes online at say 5:30. it attaches to the network right after boot. Sometimes it doesnt get an ip address. Im looking at the ping addon to ping this device right at 5:30 for 1 minute. If it doesnt see the ip i want it to power off the shelly its connected to and power back on. Wait 1 minute for bootup and try again.

becomes unresponsive on all fronts, zigbee automations, webgui, wifi devices..

checking the logfile for one i see thousands of

this is being posted every milisecond

the logfile just stops with these entries
eventhough the green looked like it was very busy

My issue: Not able to configure "Add network storage" to access router USB drive.
My goal: In the end I'd like to automate HA backups to the router attached USB hard drive.

I am trying to backup HA to a router-attached usb drive using the "Add network storage".
Attempts guided by Youtube and internet queries have failed. However, I can read/write to
the drive both from Windows10 and Linux Mint computers via their respective file mangers.
To access the drive from Windows10 file manager I type routers IP address as: \\192.168.xxx.xxx
In Linux Mint I access it via Nemo typing: smb://192.168.xxx.xxx. Nemo calls it "Windows shares on 192.168.xxx.xxx"
I know little about networks other than the above and trial and error.

My Setup:
Asus RT-AC86U router with USB attached 1TB HHD. Up-to-date HA Blue with external SSD.
This is just one of the settings that I've tried.
Any help is appreciated.
