#Hi all, have an issue with a backup/

I like the idea of moving to umbrelOS because this device will be the only device I need to run. And it is powerful enough for everything I need (HA, Plex, Portainer, Uptime Kuma etc), it has a lot of good SSD storage and uses like 10W of power so far when idle.
But everything has own tradeoffs ๐
if it runs ha as a container you can only create backups not restore them i think, as it doesnt support addons and stuff, its meant as a transitioning mechanism from ha container to haos.
you can manualy extract the backup and copy the homeassistant config directory into the mount/volume that your container based install uses. no idea how that works on this umbrelos, maybe consult their documentation
if you used addons non of those will work and you will have to run those things as their own containers and probably also manage their configuration/data seperately
I don't think I used any add-ons
I have only Matter Server, but I didn't setup there anything
But thanks for mentioning it!
I've read about this before, still the new HA app (on umbrelOS) offers Matter (BETA) in Discovered. Not sure if I need a server yet. But I plan to use Matter devices later. And I have Apple Home as well.
To be honest, I started thinking that a separate device for HAOS is better for the long run. Just buy one more device like this, a one-time investment โ and no issues / manual tinkering / another OS dependency in future. It is fairly small and low-power.
You should move to Proxmox VE instead so you can virtualize HAOS and still run other things and do your tinkering in a safe environment: #hardware-archived message
Umbrel can run as a VM too if required. And yeah I'm aware you're likely not the target audience for it.
Yeah, you're probably correct about the target audience. Not because I can't, but because I don't have time for that anymore and my brain is busy with another tech.
Thanks for the advice ๐
I'll probably just drop $220 for another Beelink Mini S12 Pro, import a backup there and in theory, it should all catch up as it is now, without redoing all the devices again. I hope ARM -> x64 transition will be fine with a backup.
As far as I know that should be no problem.
Thanks for your comments, it made me understand the future time investment into running HA not as HAOS ๐
I did check community addons section, and it seems like I can just install all I need via those, without Umbrel: Plex, Uptime Kuma and more.
