#The zigbee2M is my MQTT integration?
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Yeah, wherever you have your zigbee devices connected.
Do you have Zigbee2MQTT setup already?
it connects to your mqtt integration
and requires a hardware coordinator
It's one of those things you'd know. How are you running HA?
Haphazardly!
On a dell wyze 3070
on bare metal
lmao... so the best way. ๐
no virtual machine
Wait... you're running Core?! Or in docker?
Dunno, feels like core
how can I check?
Do you have to use hass to run it from the CLI?
I tried setting it up 2 years ago, failed at a coupel steps, then picked it back up a year ago and got it working...kinda blurry
or it could be haos on the bare metal
Holy crap... lol
oh
Ok, that's fine. If it works, it works.
Wait.
No.
Go to Settings > About and show me what it looks like.
That's not core. That's just a Core update.
good news!
There we go... you're running HAOS.
Haha did I mess something up initially?
Nope. This is preferred.
Ohhhhh, yea that sounds familiar
Ok, now... Do you have any USB devices on it? Sticks or anything like that?
I didnt want to mess with VMs or Dockers I guess, sounded like an extra level of something to mess up.
lol that's fair.
Yep, I have a Aqar E1 hub, A USB running to a bluetooth Proxy, and... a third USB going to a moisture sensor so I know when to water my plant, but thats just for the power draw
Ok. So, bad news is, you don't have a Zigbee coordinator. Good news is that you can buy one ๐
scratych that the 2 usb are power from a wall outlet, only the aqara e1 hub is present in the HA machine
inexpensively too
Ahhh haha well that is sort of news yes
Any good recommendations?
what part of the world are you in?
BUT, and there's always a but... You're going to want to get a Zigbee coordinator and also a router. Since you said 4th of July, I'm guessing you're US?
also a router?
Yes, US, California, sometimes unfortuately.
Well I will be in the market for a new router, currently leasing from internet provider for $22 USD/month which is wild
LOL, kinda over WiFi. Your Aqara devices are connected the E1 hub using Zigbee and that's connecting to Homekit via WiFi (or ethernet if it's plugged in).
No... Not a "router"... a Zigbee router device.
Mmmm so convoluted, I love it
Ugh... Tom, do I really need to explain that to you?!
Awesome, purchased, arrives Wednesday
i mostly wonder why he needs one separate from the coordinator
Because Aqara devices don't like to connect directly connect to the coordinator.
@urban olive Add these to your cart as well: https://a.co/d/809CJxy
good idea
Aqara connects to Homekit and homekit connects via matter to HA right? but not all entities make it? Is that why I lose most of my cool capabilities?
@flint summit Your Aqara devices are connected directly to your coordinator and stay connected? That's rare.
I actually have a 4 pack on Sonoff S31s only 2 of which are is use...
Homekit uses Thread.
Which I see now are wifi and not zigbee...
If you have thread devices, but the Aqara hub (except for the new M3 (I think)) uses WiFi to connect to HomeKit.
hmmmmmmmm, I thought they did, but now I see that I haven't actually set up any of my aqara devices since I swapped over from zha
The 3R plugs are SUPER solid and behave really well with Aqara zigbee devices.
Ok ordered.
i have liked every 3R device I've used.
My partner is going to roll her eyes so hard when she sees me open those boxes.
their leak sensors are able to stand up to getting wet.
which is not something I can say about aqara, for example
Oh good Ill need a leak sensor, I Made a self watering resevoir for my plant with a little aquarium pump and some drip tubing
https://imgur.com/a/glv0FBh Just to give you an idea. 45 Aqara devices and 10 3r plugs ๐
When these dongle and plugs arrive, will it be difficult to swap my lights to zigbee?
What else will I need integration-wise?
Difficult? Not really. Just may be time consuming for a bit.
ok so I have mosquitto broker
but I will need zigbee2MQTT
might as well download that now
Correct. But ONLY after you have your coordinator and you get the firmware updated.
Patience. Don't jump the gun yet ๐
you had a way less dumb question than most people so far today
No problem. Feel free to ping me in #zigbee-archived when your stuff comes in and we'll get you setup.
Oh, I can come up with dumber, just wait! ๐
And remind me to throw a router at Tom ๐ lmao
๐
good idea
Sorry to butt in, my Aqara H1 (no neutral) switches have been happily joined to my zigbee network (SLZB-06 poe coord). No issues to speak of.
Directly connected or through a router?
Joined directly to the zigbee network, via either coord or whatever node they preffered when joined.
Long time ago, this.
Right. The point is that they aren't joined directly to the coordinator. They would be joined to a routing device and that would be joined to the coordinator. Very few end devices will join (and stay joined) to the coordinator and especially the Aqara devices.
I don't bind devices - never had the need to
So yeah, the sockets will pickup the edge devices, and coord will only be connected to the sockets
Yup. Exactly.
This is all automatically, the zigbee mesh logic does this behind the scenes, nothing for you to actually do.
(for OP's sake)
That's kinda true. While letting the mesh decide can work, with certain end devices, that's not always the case and usually not recommended. Certain end devices will bind to a router and stay connected to it forever. If that router drops for any reason, the end device won't update it's route and will drop from the mesh as well.
the TuYa warning ๐
Not so much Tuya (but Tuya sucks for sure), but Aqara non-Zigbee3.0 devices (which are the most common) and SmartThings and Sonoffs.
and or Philips hue
Always a struggle, especially if you have a mixed bag of devices already, before you start the HA / z2m / zha adventure
So, in your map, you have a lot of devices with no route. Compared to mine, I only have 3 devices with no route (all 3 of them are dead batteries lol). https://imgur.com/a/hJTt1Ie
Hue? Hue devices are the most stable ones by far.
It was in relation to preferring and sticking to a certain node
Right. All of mine are paird to their closest routers.
Yeah, not sure about those - they work allright
Except one, which dropped they day before - didn't get around to resetting yet.
Surprising you had a Hue drop. I can't tell you the last time I had a Hue device drop from my mesh. ๐ค
Ahhhhhh... ok, that doesn't surprise me at all then. lol
There was a power blip
I sorted the single light / single rocker ones with a condensator
I have one Aqara switch that I have to replace that dropped... yup, same reason, power went out for a few minutes over the weekend and it didn't like it.
They still relay
Just can't command them via zigbee
It can still be used as a dumb switch
Just have to drop the breaker and re-add it
I've seen people in other countries having to do that on 220v lines. I've never heard of anyone having to do it on 110v lines though.
It's been working for ... 7 months?
plenty other power drops
I guess they're a bit sensitive
But not overly
Yeah, my Aqara switches are bitchy when it comes to power blips where the router they are connected to doesn't come backk before they do.
That's why I re-paired them to 3R plugs. Ever since I did that (except for this one I have to replace), none of them have ever dropped.
You've given me food for thought with the map
Yay and I'm sorry. ๐คฃ
I had probably joined those near the coord, then installed in place
(I know, I know)
Yup. Most likely.
I've re-added a "floater" contact sensor in place (it's glued to the window, duh), and it still won't have a line to routers (2 sockets on the same floor, ~7 meters and a wall)
I'll leave it be, automations connected to it work properly.
Huh, and you paired it directly to one of the routers? ๐ค But, yeah, if it works, it works.
I used permit all
