#Hello, I'm a bit new to Home Assistant,

and so on...
Now, you'll see that some of those are Cloud based, so you still need your internet to be working for them to work, but we can certainly help you make better future purchases so that things are entirely local.
Gotcha. So it looks like I still need the individual apps for initial setup for like Tuya for instance, but then once it’s added to home assistant it is good to go and I no longer need the app?
Mostly yes
Though if you buy stuff that's #zigbee-archived, #matter-archived, or #zwave-archived then you probably won't even need the apps
That makes sense.
So to give an example of what I’m facing right now, I have a smart life smart bulb that went offline. Not sure if a family member reset it or not, but it can’t be accessed via Alexa, and shows offline in that app. I would basically need to use their app to get it connected back up to our WiFi, and then home assistant should be able to access it like normal, right?
Makes sense. That would be a bit of a chore to do, but I could see undertaking that in the future. Since I’ve got quite a few smart devices of different brands, and have long since tossed most original packaging, is there an easy way to tell if something is zigbee compatible?
if it connects to wifi then it's not Zigbee
Other stuff... google for the specs of the model, or check to see if it's on the list of known working hardware pinned in #zigbee-archived
Good to know. All of our stuff connects over WiFi, so I’m gonna assume that none of them are zigbee 😂. If I were to pickup Zigbee products in the future, and setup a Raspberry Pi for HA, I’m guessing I would need a receiver of some sort to send/receive the Zigbee signals, correct?
Yes, but they're pretty cheap
Gotcha. I was wondering if it was a radio or if our Eero mesh system would work. Good to know. I’ll start considering what I’m going to do to clean things up, as having lots of apps is getting annoying, especially when they sign me out lol. Thanks for the information and your time!
The mesh system wouldn't work, sadly
