Because I don’t know of any other smart light bulbs, and I didn’t want to be shackled to an app for the functionality of any product I buy. My comment was basically an invitation for you to offer a better solution than Phillips Hue if one exists and you know of it.

Buy stuff that HA can control, ideally not WiFi (eg, #zigbee-archived, #zwave-archived, #thread-archived, or #matter-archived) and then you don't need any "app"

Hue's bulbs are the gold standad of Zigbee bulbs - they've got the best colour production of any bulb. But Innr and Gledopto are a very close second for less money, and Ikea's white bulbs are also very good (their RGB ones not so much)
