How far is the motion sensor from the dongle? You've got a functional range of maybe 6 to 8 meters?
Did you put the dongle on a USB extension cable?
I tried to also move it to the dongle so it's within a meter. Even then it doesn't connect. But the normal position is like 3-6 meters away
Did you put the dongle on a USB extension cable?
No it's directly plugged into the pc

But I probably should put it with a cable
I forgot that I read something about that ๐
Yeah, the pinned messages in #zigbee-archived mention that, and more
Now I remember it again. I will try that right now thank you
Like 10 cm cable should be enough right?
Maybe, if you're really lucky
Then I gotta buy a longer cable ๐
USB 3.0 can cause your Zigbee devices to fully stop functioning. In this video we show this by moving a Zigbee device and Zigbee adapter next to USB 3.0 port and cable.
The demo is done with a Home Assistant SkyConnect and IKEA Tradfri remote but this affects all Zigbee sticks and devices.
To avoid interference, use a shielded USB 2.0 extensio...
Well, it isn't a USB 3.0 port
I don't think so
If it has any of those then they're great sources of RF jamming
It's a 1.x port
Yup ๐
The other thing to check is that your Zigbee channel is clear of all WiFi in the area
ZHA defaults to channel 15, Zigbee2MQTT to 11
The hard drives in the front of my 2U emit enough RF noise to affect Zigbee operation if I plug in a stick into the front 2.0 ports
It's almost like electronics generates RF noise
I don't see any wifi on channel 15
I will try to plug it in the back then
Back will likely be worse
Ohw
I only have 1 hard drive in it tho
But why does my switch work without a problem tho?
Mmmmh, I repaired it. And now it at least doesn't disconnect immediately. Let's see if it keeps working now
Okay it still works. I think the USB cable + repairing the device did the trick. Thank you @acoustic heath !
But I am gonna buy a longer USB cable just so I am sure there wont be any inference anymore
1.8 meter should be plenty enough right?
Ah yeah
Channel 14 off zigbee will have the most inteferace with ~ channel 3 of wifi I think
Channel 14 of zigbee is 2420-2425 and channel 3 of wifi is 2411-2433 so the middle is 2422...
Should probably use channel 25 to have the least interface I think
Are you running ZHA? If so, update to 2022.4.0 when the release finishes building in a few minutes and delete ZHA. When you form a new network, it will pick a good channel for you.
Alrighty will do thanks
Before swapping cables (which is excellent practice, btw), know that aqara motion sensors (lumi.sensor_motion.aq2) are finnicky and don't have proper quirks in ZHA. See this for details and contribute if you can https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/2195
https://www.metageek.com/training/resources/zigbee-wifi-coexistence/ and the pins over in #zigbee-archived
I don't believe there are any bugs, since these were one of the first devices ever supported by ZHA. These are basically send-only devices and are not configured in the slightest by ZHA so if you are missing updates and can't successfully join them, it's 100% interference.
I have about 80 devices, all working well on a strong(ish) network, for which i have tested two coordinators. The only devices that are behaving erratically (i've described how in the issue) are the aqara motion sensors, and not even all of them. Switching their location makes no difference. I don't think that's got to do with interference. I believe it's down to firmware+quirks, and i can't find the message atm, but that was also @old bone's opinion
One other thing to try is to replace their batteries. I know my Aqara temps sensors start reporting -10000C when their battery voltage drops too low, and the motion sensors trigger randomly. There's unfortunately no way to gauge their battery percentage either. If you have issues with only a small subset of your sensors, try changing their batteries for fresh ones. The percentage displayed by ZHA is derived from the voltage, which stays nearly constant for the lifetime of the device.
But in home assistant it does say the battery percentage. Or is this just a fixed amount?
A percentage is shown but it will never change by much, if at all
A gotcha
This graph from a few years ago might make more sense: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/415
Mmmmh, my battery that came with the device was ~3.2 voltage
This is an Aqara device reported by Z2M... shows how much you can trust the battery reports
Yep. I bet that's what your temperature graph looks like too
Then you get
At least my motion sensor was within 0.5ยฐ celcius
This could be filtered out
I've had plenty of Z-Wave sensors that report 100% battery until they stop working - with a dead battery
Lol, so when it doesn't work again the first thing I should check is the battery ๐
