but oh well room for improvement
at least it works
it did not even boot previously
with the NVME plugged in
I formatted and firmware updated the SSD but unsure which one made a difference i noticed it booted just now when i finally got the Serial Console running. So i wasn't able to see what caused it to just stall back then.
But i'm glad it works and i can finally wrap it up for now, it wasn't as plug-and-play as other fortunate people here have had it.
Thanks for the assistance @wary pivot !
It's probably the reason why it no longer shows the eMMC in the Storage Section at all, it's probably all read-only (well unless you run an updated to HA itself i would guess )
Yes, that's a normal behavior. Mine is showing the NVMe capacity only too.
Alright will pack it up and put it back into the rack/
So glad this works now 😄
Btw whoever maintains the guidance page that UART driver doesn't auto install by default. https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-windows/
I had to manually download it from Silicon Labs's website - https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads
I didn't have to install a driver manually in Win 11.
Win 10 here had to install it
Only the serial-over-ip program of my router. 😆
TIL: The reasons why my Yellow wouldn't recognize the M.2 I put in, is that I put in a SATA SSD, not an NVMe one ... Ooops.
I thought I could reuse an M.2 I had previously running in an old NUC and totally forgot to check the protocol.
Anyone find a rack mount solution for Yellow they liked?
I have my RPi4s in a modular 1U Rack for them that I found on Thingiverse, but I haven't found anything similar for Yellow yet.
This is similar to the design i use for my RPis: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2021/my-6-node-1u-raspberry-pi-rack-mount-cluster
The height of the yellow is less than a U isn't it ? should just be able to print a plate with rack ears I guess
Not that you can buy this but here's someone who designed something https://johnzanussi.com/posts/rack-mounting-home-assistant-yellow
https://www.thingsinrack.com/ from Spain is selling rack mounts for Yellow. But I have no experiences with them yet.
That is so awesome
Thanks a bunch for that hint! That's a very schmancy setup they have.
Anyone had any issues with their zigbee radio on their yellow? I had issues with Z2M (didn't know it was experimental with the yellow when i first set everything up) so I migrated over to ZHA. Now all my Zigbee devices stop working in HA after about an hour and I have to reload the ZHA integration to get them working again. I'm at a loss as to what to try and get it back for good. It had been working great with Z2M for a couple of months before a couple of days ago.
Even though I have a Yellow now, I still use the z2m add-on with the USB-adapter I had before.
Do you use the ZigBee radio plain with ZHA or flashed with the multiprotocol add-on?
Quick update from CS on shipping Yellows:
Now that the tax debacle is fixed, a few hundred more orders (mostly PoE and US kits, but some EU and UK kits as well) will ship next week.
Please let me know if you still have tax issues going forward
I'm working on updating all the delivery schedules based on what we currently have in the warehouse, what we expect in the warehouse soon.
I can amend this with the information that 1.1k devices are supposed to arrive in their warehouse early next week! Also a few Standard Yellows (with CM4) are supposed to be shipped to them somewhere soon. Arriving there probably in March only, and also not much overall 😢 ...
Does anyone already use the Yellow with Frigate and the Coral USB-Accelerator? If so, what's your impact on the CPU usage?
I'm using it plain currently with ZHA. All my troubles started when z2m wouldn't load and would just say 502 Bad Gateway and no amount or restarting would fix it.
Have you set the parameters needed to run the Zigbee radio in Z2M?
Yes. It was configured and working until about 4 days ago when it just stopped and gave the 502 gateway error. I tried restoring back ups going back several weeks and still nothing would get z2m to work. That's when I migrated over to ZHA and noticed that thing with everything not responding after an hour until I reload the ZHA integration.
What is the state of Home Assistant Yellow with Zigbee2mqtt at the moment? If I have a working setup with a separate box that is using ConBee II, should I expect an improvement when switching to Yellow, or is it likely to perform worse, or about the same? I'm basically interested in latency, such as switching 30 lights off at the same time (without a group) and then seeing that status reports arrive back reliably from each and every one of them.
Conbee using what software? It is the least favorable coordinator with anything but deconz, so anything should be an upgrade
Also, don't switch multiple stuff without groups
Any chance I can get a shipping update? Last update I got said it was going to ship 1/27. I placed the order over a year ago and I'm incredibly eager to get it implemented into my smart home. I've emailed yellow@home-assistant.io a few times now and no response.
Scroll a little bit up and you will get the newest status update. You could also try and contact CrowdSupply's customer service - maybe they can provide you more info.
Looks like CS just updated estimated ship date but didn't bother to notify me. I've been checking my email like ten times an hour since the 27th, eagerly waiting for some kind of update. Not doing great on the whole customer experience thing so far...
It seems they updated shipping for me as well. I know I checked it earlier today, so it must've been in the last couple hours. Does yours say Feb. 10th as well?
I did not, no. I only checked again today because I saw what you wrote. They really should have sent an email.
I agree! It looks like they're notifying some and not others?
Except the project updates from Nabu Casa, I have never got an update from CrowdSupply when the eta changed. The first update from CS was the shipping notice.
I've gotten a few emails throughout the last 7 months as they've extended ship dates since July
Seems mine was quietly updated to February 10th as well in the last few hours, thats before they get additional stock so probably running behind due to the weather as someone suggested.
Same here. This is the second time that's happened to me (I was in the Jan 27 gang, then silently changed to Feb 3, now Feb 10). I'm not optimistic that it will actually ship by the 10th at this point.
I didn't see the Feb 3 change! sounds like we're all getting different updates. I feel the same but at least the ship window change isn't 3 months from now!
So I am excited and finally got my Yellow POE delivered and installed my SSD and the PI Compute module. I used a CM4108000 unit that I believe doesn't have built in storage. Is this going to work to boot off the NVME SSD?
CM4 may require updating the firmware(/bootloader) but, yes, should boot from NVMe if supported. There are some unsupported ones, ref yellow website for a preliminary list.
How do I update the firmware/bootloader? I can't see the unsupported list anywhere on the site. https://yellow.home-assistant.io/poe-nvme/
I'm guessing I can use the yellow board to update the bootloader firmware over the https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-linux-macos/ serial console?
the HAOS I install directly from downloading the image and load into a Nmve is different from a USB install with for yellow? how come I only see /dev/ttyAMA0?
Looks like they are picking orderes a bit randomly. I ordered i october and gor 03.march, while a buddy ordered in november and his is to be sent 10.feb.....Not good if they are not following orderdates
Embrace the chaos
oh wow, shipping date of my Yellow POE got updated. Its now February 10th (was January 27th).
Same. (I’m the buddy @south robin is talking about). I orderen 18. November
Oh, not the PoE for my part, tho
The installer updates the firmware automatically (using the CM4 self-update mechanism)
The USB install with "for Yellow" is just an installer. But it installs the official Yellow image (from the releases at github.com/home-assistant/operating-system).
I ordered in January 2022
There are various reasons why a certain order might get sent out of order: Orders which have additional items (CM4, NVMe etc.), orders which need address updates, export complaints etc. Crowd Supply and Mouser is currently working on going through orders which had been blocked for some reason.
Which variant is of course also relevant. We are still short on CM4s to build the Home Assistant Yellow non-Kit versions (with CM4).
The orders are identical with no CM4s. Only EU power supply. No address changes on any of them
Does Nabu Casa have recommendations for what NVMe SSDs to buy?
Supported would be nice too. But like i.e performance tested
Not very concerned about price, looking for 250GB+, what drive should i get?
I think i was on that page looking for info. Better get my eyes checked again
500G 970 EVO Plus ordered. With the 8G, Wifi + BT, 32GB CM4, this is gonna be a beast 😂
The orders are identical sent to addresses just above 30mins with car from each other. There has been no changes to adress during the order time. None of the orders include anything other than Kit with EU plug.
Anyone else been charged import VAT and handling fee for shipping to the EU?
@lucid heart Unfortunately, Yes! Please reach out to Mouser! They will reimburse you! Sorry for the trouble!
All drives are going to be limited by the performance of a pi. They're all just as good as each other
Reach out to crowd supply not mouser, yes?
Didn't seem to work.... https://photos.app.goo.gl/rKvqG6QZCDr7T3ZH6
I should be able to watch it boot over the serial connection?
You're right @compact quartz (cc @lucid heart), it will likely go via CrowdSupply support!
Yes you can, here is how https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-windows/, you might need to get the driver from Silicon Labs website itself it it does not autoinstall.
I'd recommend you firmware update that SSD in a PC before you use it.
Thanks for the heads up! Hope my desktop even have a M2 slot, its old 😅
Can it be done using a USB adapter M2 as well?
Like one of those enclosures
You can always buy an PCIe Card or i heard about USB enclosures that support UASP, but i can't confirm the latter to working. I have an enclosure without UASP and i can confirm it does not work with that.
I have a UASP enclosure ordered but no other NVME to test with.
I already used my PC to firmware update
Allright, i will look into this. Have not rly built a PC since M.2 basicly became a standard
Is the fw update tool provided by Samsung?
Yes It's called Samsung Magician
lol, funny name for such a serious company
Well it's all borderline magic to them anyway 😅 given the latest reliability issues.

I'm guessing that means it's not finding my NVME SSD
Someone here said that the default installer is configured to install on eMMC and subsequently if NVME is detected and present it will allow you the option to "move datadisk" within HA itself post installation in Settings->System->Storage-> 3 dots top right-> "move datadisk" which reboots and moves all data stores to the NVME leaving the eMMC with just the OS and read-only files.
He mentioned that by default the USB-BOOT Installer does not support installing directly to NVME in a scenario of a CM4 with no eMMC.
Now that being said there are issues with the NVME SSD itself being detected as well
separate to the above
hope that helps
The above worked for me.
"Installing Home Assitant OS 9.5 to nowhere." At least the installer has a "can do" attitude. 😄
Plopped in an intel NVME SSD drive and it worked
What SSD did you try before?
Woot, my cm4 got refunded and my ship date is the 10th. 🤞
I unfortunately can't do anything with it til spring time
Samsung MZ-VLB256B is the model
Is that like some OEM stuff? Yeap, Lenovo....
Hi everyone!
Sorry for my newbie question (and my English) but how do you know if you boot well on the SSD and not eMMC ?
I did not find a lite module.. so I have a doubt
Thanks
I've sent CrowdSupply a message. Have yet to hear back. But thanks for your quick response. 🙂
Newbie here with probably a stupid question. I'm considering buying a yellow to setup HA. The one that comes with the CM module doesn't have WIFI and Bluetooth. My question is if I plug it directly into my WIFI router (Orbi) with an ethernet cable (I'm actually running on an Orbi connected to the Xfinity crappy router via ethernet cable) will HA still be able to see and connect to WIFI devices on my network? I have some smart plugs I bought that connect via WIFI and I want to control them with HA but am wondering if that is possible if it doesn't have WIFI built in???
If everything is on the same network then it works. Wifi isn't the same as ZigBee that they talk on a different protocol
Wifi and ethernet are both networking standards for the same thing
Whats the idle power draw of a yellow?
The datasheet has some numbers:
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/resources/Yellow_v1.3_Datasheet.pdf
I’m having trouble finding an answer to this, so apologies if it’s been answered already: if I get a CM4 with WiFi/BT, will I have to disable BT in order to use a Z-Wave hat? I’ve seen both yes and no answers to this. Some say yes, others say bluetooth is switched to mini UART so I can have both. It’s not essential, but it would be nice to have
No, the HAOS version for Yellow works out of the box with a Z-Wave hat. BT can stay on.
You will find the Z-Wave hat as device /dev/ttyAMA0
That’s wonderful. Thanks for the info!
Hi,
I got my Home Assistant Yellow PoE kit and I have Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 1GB RAM, Lite with not eMMC on the RPi.
I’m using the official guide:
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/poe-nvme/#opening-raspberry-pi-imager
In “Installing Home Assistant Software on Kit”, step 10 there is -> During boot, the Yellow LED blinks in a heartbeat pattern.
But in my case the Yellow LED not blinking (not even once), the red and green is constant on and nothing more is happening.
What I can do to make it work?
Today I got an invoice to pay 38€ customs. I thought this was included in the shipping fees?? 😬
@shut cedar
Mouser didn't send the correct details to FedEx. If you pay it then crowd supply will reimburse you
ok, thank you. I will pay and get in touch with crowdsupply support.
Another question, since I have migrated to the yellow my zigbee network is very unstable. It is working some hours and then suddenly i get the MAC channel access failure (225) error in zigbee2mqtt. I am not using the yellow zigbee radio but another radio which is connected via IP. Everything was working fine before the migration. Now my question is, if the yellow radio could be responsible for the interferences and how to disable it completely?
If the radio is inactive it shouldn’t be causing interference
Someone to help me ?
Go to Settings > system > storage? That should give you a clue as the SSD should be bigger than your emmc
But the problems started the day after migrating to the yellow. Everything is the same, only yellow is now connecting to the zigstar coordinator over ip, instead of my old server (which of course is offline now). Yesterday I also have done a wifi scan shortly after I got the channel access error. All the 5 networks which my wifi AP can see are using channel 6 while my Zigbee network is on channel 20.
@paper surge #zigbee-archived might be better
I think it is a problem with the yellow
And it would be nice to know how to disable the radio just for testing. I think this would be the easiest way to check.
If the Yellow is connecting to your coordinator over IP and you never set up the Yellow Zigbee radio via ZHA, it's not running at all
Ok thank.
I only see SSD entry after thz migration. So can I conclude that yellow boot from SSD and that emmc is not used ?
Two Zigbee networks on the same channel wouldn't cause channel access failures
In that case, the radio definitely isn't running (since it will require the addon to function). You can reboot the Yellow and physically power it off to be 100% sure the internal radio is not running.
Why not? For me it would be logical that two network on the same channel can cause interference
If you only see the ssd then yes. The emmc would appear if it was in use, along with "lifetime used"
It's no different from having two devices on the same network near one another. Zigbee is low-power and by default, the Yellow radio won't be transmitting anything if there's no other device on its network (even if its internal radio was still running).
Since yesterday I have moved the zigstar more far away from the yellow (before it was about 30 cm away, now 100 cm) and the network is now more stable than before but not perfect.
Do you have anything plugged into the Yellow's USB ports?
Any other networking equipment or devices (e.g. SSDs) near the Yellow?
Yes, an extender cable for my zwave stick
But the same was true for my old raspberry server. Everything is on the same place
With the difference that before the nvme ssd which is now used with the yellow, was plugged into an usb3 ssd case.
This usb 3 connection has caused interferences, therefore I have bought the zigstar IP radio, to have the possibility to move the radio away from the usb3 port.
Top. Thanks for you answer
FYI I was very surprised because I'm using an SSD listed as not compatible (Crucial P2 CT250P2SSD8) and the migration worked straight away!
Actually I need to take that back. If you used the "data move" option it would not show the emmc.
But it would still be booting from emmc
And there are fewer issues when using the data move option than when trying to boot the system from SSD
OK. So with my CM4 model with emmc how to be full ssd?
I have a another SSD (Samsung 980) if needed
@dusky hollow If you log into the serial console, you could run the command lsblk and have a look if anything is mounted to the eMMC. To run it completely from NVMe, the eMMC needs to be empty and the HAOS image for Yellow (not for RPi or the installer image) needs to be flashed to the NVMe. For example with a NVMe to USB adapter and Balena Etcher. But that would not be an officially supported method and shouldn't give any big advantages.
Yeah, you aren't gaining anything by putting the system on the SSD. In fact it's more problems. I'd leave it as is
Ok.
No long-term risks like with Sd card ?
Should I be worried about using an ssd rated as incompatible?
Thanks again
So buy a CM4 lite is not a good idea?
If you move the data to the NVMe via the UI only the OS stays on the eMMC. And that's mostly (if not even completely) read only - unless an OS update is made.
Many more people have problems with the lite to get HA running (e.g. old CM4 firmware, boot order issues).
I'm not going to look for problems then and stay like that.
Thanks @compact quartz and @wary pivot for you time and advices
Just working on setting up my yellow today! Woot.
I have quickly noticed the integrations are not using the local DNS server cause many fail due to local DNS lookups needed. I see something about CoreDNS but can't find anything to configure it. Anyone had similar issues with DNS? I can confirm the OS itself is set to use the DNS correct and can cURL the targets without issues, just integrations like plex are having issues.
I am moving from docker to supervisor version tho so never had issues like this before
Some of them might work, could be some SSL issue with the root CAs missing too
https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2023/02/08/state-of-matter-and-thread/
https://raspberrypi.dk/en/?s=home+assistant+yellow&post_type=product
Good news for the Europeans - the HA Yellow can be preordered in Denmark now.
Plex works, Radarr and Sonarr and busted 😔
Nvm figured it all out, very bad integrations 😅 stripped out the old config to fix it
I'm still having an issue when there is a power cut in the house. The Yellow doesn't start when the power comes back on. Removing the DC barrel connector and putting it back in causes it to turn on. Why is there a difference?!
Is it a complete power cut or more a flickering?
In the latest case, the circuit breaker tripped due to a 12V adapter going pop elsewhere
I think it came back on with red light, but didn't boot up. Should have taken more notice but was busy trying to get it going again.
Just tried pulling the plug end out instead of the barrel into the Yellow, waited, put it back in and it started fine. Does seem to only be when the power to the building goes off. Very odd.
When some data corruption occurs, the NVMe seems to be taken offline until the Yellow is powercycled. But in your case the power is cut off...
I'm worried it will happen at some point when I'm on vacation or something and there will be no way to get it going again until I'm back
You might want to invest in a UPS if this is a normal occurance
It's probably a limitation in the power design of the yellow or PSU where the power needs to be fully removed to incur a cycle
I know, its already answered, but don't know the answer anymore 😦 Where I have to wrote to get back my (double) payed TAX ? Any FAQ about it ?
Contact crowd supply
Was an issue between mouser and FedEx
God dam ... is already hard to find a simple contact e-mail address on there website (finally found) xD
So I figured out what my Optane issues doesn't seem to be an issue with the SSD itself but rather that it's "too small" (it's 32GB) so does anybody know that the process is for the data disk move? Does it copy partition structures or something?
i know the message in HA says you can only move data disk to an equal or larger disk
They're both 32GB (32GB eMMC to 32GB NVMe). My presumption is that it's slightly different if you compare on the byte level so if the SSD has just one byte of storage less than the eMMC then it fails
i believe it has to be larger and not equal
indeed it would
You're only getting about 7-8GB of extra storage this way though
you are right, here is the message straight off HA: "There is no suitable external device found. The storage capacity of the external data disk must be larger than the storage capacity of the existing disk"
(attempting to move data from 32gb to 32gb)
The main idea is that you would be adding something substantially different. 250GB, 512GB, etc
I just wanted better flash storage, compared to my current system 32GB is more than enough
someone said there is a process to install directly into the extra storage but it's not officially documented.
Yeah
I was looking into that using rpiboot but I'm not that hung up about it, so I'm just waiting for my 64GB module to arrive
Exciting!! Yellow POE kit is showing 3rd March for estimated dispatch on Crowd Supply. Wasn't it recently showing 30th March? Or was that only the Yellow with CM4?
I'm seeing the same. PoE kit (w/o) CM4 moved to March 3rd from March 30th
Anyone got power usage data for a yellow?
Same, now I actually have to source my CM4 lmao. I was kinda looking forward to procrastinating
Thanks. 6W under load, not bad.
Does the Yellow negotiate a fixed 25.5w with the poe switch or will it work with poe budgets closer to the rated 9w load?
I have a hunch that the USB ports on my Yellow are broken. No devices are autodetected (I'm currently trying to get the Aeotec connected and I had a similar issue trying to migrate my Conbee II radio data), I can't get the CONFIG stick method to work for config changes, and there's no /dev/ttyUSB devices in the hardware list.
How might I try to rule out that my USB ports do or don't work?
Did you reboot the host (not just restart HA)? It often needs that to detect new USB devices. And if they are power hungry (like external HDDs or Google Coral) it might need a powered hub.
Yeah, I did a full power cycle (necessary this time in particular as my Yellow is on the same breaker as the first Z-Wave switch I just installed)
Can anyone tell / show me what it's like when you've got USB devices plugged in and it's working? I'd be curious to know if I should expect to see them in the Hardware tab and/or which device path they use by default
If you go to Settings - System Hardware - 3-dot-menu - All Hardware, is your device shown in 1-1.x? My USB connected UPS is shown that way (1-1.1).
Another way would be lsusb in the USB-C serial console or ls -l /dev/serial/by-id in a terminal
1-1.x
as, like, one of the expandable sections likeashmem/autofs? no, there's no section like that
lsusb in the USB-C serial console or ls -l /dev/serial/by-id in a terminal
oO I've never used the serial console!lsusbsuggests something promising; it's possible I can't list devices by ID when I'm only SSHed into the container tho:
[core-ssh ~]$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002
[core-ssh ~]$ ls -l /dev/serial/by-id
ls: /dev/serial/by-id: No such file or directory
[core-ssh ~]$ ls /dev | grep serial
serial0
serial1
On top of the list should be 3 numerical sections (if I remember correctly)
no dice 😅 thanks for helping btw!
The USB device in your output seems to be the OTG controller (I suppose it might be the USB-C port). Are you running HAOS and if so... did you use the Yellow installer USB or the Yellow image or the RPi4 one?
Oh right, the USB-C port! I wonder if I can cheat for a while with that 🤔
My Yellow came pre-flashed; I just plugged it in and started configuring...
It's just a serial console and a way to access the eMMC. I suppose you have to wait for one of the support gods
How long did the shipping take please?
I think it shipped on the 19 Jan (Thursday) and arrived 23rd (Monday) or 24th (Tuesday) next week. Under a week I would guess. Came by Fedex. UPDATE: DELIVERED
Monday
23/01/2023 at 09:39
Seems it came all the way from Texas.
@lament saddle Awesome, thank you.
Managed to buy a CM4 this morning. 🥳
The Pi store in Cambridge (UK) has a few 4GB with WiFi in stock, for walk in customers only.
i had everything bought 9 months ago, took me 6 months to source some specific models.
Oh snap, the yellow boards ship from Texas? I’m in Austin, hopefully I get it on March 3!
Try Norway 😂😂
✈️
I think they might be shipping from multiple areas.
Haha, yes, uff-da would be quite accurate
CS changed the delivery to March 3rd
Same here. Didn't even have the decency to send out emails letting us know. I'm starting to get pretty frustrated with this
Thanks for the update, will the 1.1K devices suppose to arrive next week be enough to deliver on time those yellow kits that has a estimated ship on March the 3rd?
same here, postponed to March. Is there any channel where we are supposed to get updates from the team except for the crowdsupply channel? I would really appreciate some more transparency about the continuously changing of delivery dates.
last update on crowdsupply is December 09 😦
Oi, just wait until March 3rd comes and goes with no update and another delay
same here. march 3 with no notice
Well, guys and girls... meanwhile you know the drill
Duck and cover?
Imagine how many minicomputers from AliExpress could have been delivered in this timeframe _slaps the roof of this bad boy _
Not many, if they would depend on the availability of CM4s
Do you / anyone know if there's a way to get in touch with the makers of Yellow with reasonable suspicion of faulty hardware?
Mail to yellow@home-assistant.io
I got a CM4 with 8GB ram and 32GB EMMC over a year ago. Never had any issues getting them
uhm, not a story. Just followed the pi list and ordered
“Pis are hard to get” “no they’re not”
Super productive conversation here 😂
Maybe some are lucky. I actually got two through the pi list and two on mouser. The three I didnt need I sold locally for the same price I gave for them
I don't know if anyone else has seen this. I have my home assistant yellow up and running but ZHA refuses to work. It pops up in my discovered devices but when I try to configure it, it gives me "unknown error occurred" and no other info to help troubleshoot this issue.
Did you try to set up multi-PAN? Or is this with an out-of-the-box Yellow?
This is out of the box. I had tried the multi-pan system earlier to no avail but I reset everything and started with a fresh os install to try ZHA out of the box
If you've tried multi-PAN, special firmware was flashed to the Yellow's Zigbee radio. This firmware isn't compatible with ZHA, it can only be used with multi-PAN addon until you re-flash the original firmware.
Did you flash the radio back to the EZSP Firmware after trying multi-pan?
Oh, too late. 😆
I did try to reflash it but didn’t seem to fix the issue. I can go back to multi-PAN but I didn’t see it working. It wasn’t discovering any of my zigbee devices. I didn’t get any errors when setting up multi-PAN but maybe I’m missing something?
Is your Yellow in a networking cabinet or near any USB 3.0 devices, 2.4GHz routers, SSDs, external HDDs, etc.?
It is beside my modem and networking switch yes but that’s it
How can I (successfully) do a factory reboot on my Home Assistant Yellow? I tried unplugging it, then plugging it back in, then hit the reset button right away (within 5 seconds). I held the red reset button until the yellow light started flashing. It did not factory reboot.
@frosty flicker tried holding it down while inserting power?
I will try that right now
I will give it a few minutes and check to see if I can access HA 🙂
It's still the same. No factory reboot. Just the same broken HA that only recognizes ZHA connected devices. Or, in this case, device, since I only have a motion sensor connected through that. I don't suppose there are any other ways to do a factory reset that don't include flashing from a USB, are there?
@frosty flicker it only recognizes ZHA? What are your HA logs showing?
March 3rd here as well. Not being able to get CM4 is no excuse, because i ordered without one
They get to the warehouse in batches, they are shipped out to individuals and that's when individual updates go out from crowd supply. Nabu Casa really only knows about the batches getting to the warehouse. If your date shifted, then you're likely in the next batch
Its been shifted 3 times, i have no faith in the delivery dates anymore 😂
finally got my Yellow set up this weekend! what's the current wisdom on Z-wave with Yellow? Those add-on boards that use the serial pins look interesting, but I don't know how well-supported they are/will be. I only have two or three Z-wave devices left at this point...is it time to abandon Z-wave at home and switch them out for Zigbee/matter switches?
I imagine it's a situation where everyone has the same date, then a batch comes in and those who didn't get orders filled get the new date, then the next batch comes in, etc.
I've been in that situation, and did get rid of old zwave devices eventually. Replaced them with tasmota/esphome (wifi) or zigbee. If you don't plan on getting more down the line it might make sense to just drop it. But I know the zwave.me 7, zooz 8, and Z pi 7 gpio boards work on the Yellow
https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/products/zooz-800-series-z-wave-long-range-gpio-module-zac93-lr zooz 8 is cheap right now
I don't know if gpio has an advantage other than freeing up a usb port
Yeah I think if I were still more invested in Z-wave I might consider it. But I've replaced most of my indoor lighting with Philips Hue, because dimmer switches had so many flicker issues anyway. So may as well rip off the band-aid.
Well, I understand this procedure but don't understand the whole logistics. So after all I decided to cancel my order and I will put HA on the ASUS PN41 with Intel N6000. It is more powerful then the CM4, runs my other Linux-based software etc. I ordered the SkyConnect USB to cover the ZHA region. I hope I shifted somebody to my "wait queue position" 🙂
Do it, or those poor GPIO pins will feel lonely and left out
If you can still access HA, logs would be more relevant than factory restting the Yellow. If you have access, and the ZHA integration is working, there is likely some issue with the other integrations you are using and a factory reset would be overkill.
Can you use a CM4 Lite with the yellow combined with SSD?
Also, Is a 2GB Ram CM4 enough to run ESPHome?? Currently on a 3B+ 1GB and ESPHome compiling is a no go
2GB is do-able. More would be even better. I would not go the lite route, but you can
SO a CM4 4GB Ram / 8GB eMMC would be a good option if I'm wanting to compile ESPHome?
Good luck find one though hahhaa
HAOS will take up 7GB so a 16GB would give room to breathe, and you can add NMVe SSD later
What are the pros (or cons) for running HAOS on CM4 eMMC versus OS and data both on an NMVe please?
@shy saffron you'll have fewer compatibility challenges when you run the read-only parts of the system on the emmc for booting, and use an NVMe SSD for storage of /data
To boot from SSD instead of eMMC you have to be more specific with the brand/model SSD you use
Here's the error log for the radio browser:
2023-02-13 12:52:43.372 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.config_entries] Error setting up entry Radio Browser for radio_browser
File "/usr/src/homeassistant/homeassistant/components/radio_browser/init.py", line 25, in async_setup_entry

File "/usr/local/lib/python3.10/site-packages/radios/radio_browser.py", line 73, in _request
Based on the error message, I'm guessing there's a problem with python, in a file I don't know how to access.
That's the radio browser in the media panel
You don't have other errors?
@frosty flicker can you try ha su repair in the ssh add-on terminal
I do have so many other errors, but the file is huge. And to be honest, I'm not sure if I'm sharing any private info if I share the whole file.
No you shouldn't share the whole thing here. But you can open the file with some file editor and scroll through looking for "error" entries and get an idea of what is going on
VSCode is nice because it gives you nice separation using colors
but this is feeling more like a general HA issue and not specfic to the Yellow.
It could be a general HA issue. Should I repost to general?
Yeah, but first you might try running the repair. You'll get new images of HA and any add-ons
Okay, I'll try that 🙂 Thank you 🙂
I can't install SSH, because it says it doesn't have internet access. Which is kind of true, since it's not showing up on my router. I've tried different ethernet cables and different locations, all with the same result.
I'm going to plug it directly into the router and see if that works. Thank you for your help!
I just wanted to thank you again. I was able to get SSH installed, and now almost everything is back up and running. I'm still having problems with it seeing my router (and vice versa) even though it's plugged directly into it and I'm able to say, download the latest HA update. So that's weird, but minor in the scheme of things. Anyway, just wanted to thank you again for your help in getting me back up and running 🙂
It seems, that the guys of crowdsupply are not setup to handle the amount of orders and deliveries... annoying the get the delivery date postponed WITHOUT notification
At least they could tell you which number in the chain you are, so ypu calculate yourself.
For me it is getting to time critical. Going to use something else, even i dont know yet what...
First time huh? - sincerely, a person who ordered Helium miners in 2021
Yes, i was a crowdsupply virgin - now im am f.....
Lol I’m used to waiting months for hardware at this point. It always gets there in the end…
Now I get to experience the joy of waiting for my Yellow AND hunting for a non-scalper CM4 lolol
Luckely i got my CM4 sitting around here... but be sure, till i get the yellow i lost it...
To be fair in any crowd funded anything's one is happy if the thing arrives at all eventually. If you are looking for a well oiled machine with immaculate service you go to an established brand where you pay for that. But we all know why we're here, because we buy here what those brands don't sell.
I have a pile of regular Pis lol, I discovered Yellow when looking to upgrade my current Pi based HASS setup, but instead of actually getting a more powerful piece of hardware, I was suckered in to this cool expansion board instead
Compared to other crowd funded projects i'll be honest, HA - Yellow was actually quite ok.
Upgrading from a pi.. to a pi lol
I upgraded from the HA Blue
Waaa
That thing is already more powerful than a pi 4
Whatcha gonna do with your Blue? I’ve heard those N2+ boards are great for game emulation
The yellow is the only usefull computer to use in a 12V motorhome. I had the "blue", but i had two USB-Port failures.
blue has no nvme support and runs 2gb or ram
i mean depends what you use it for i guess
i'll donate my blue to a friend of mine to start their own HA project
I could swear it has an m.2 port. Even SATA is a huuuuge step up from EMMC
its got a card slot
That’s nice of you
Wow nice
I almost got one a while back, they’re a nice solution
Where can I find instructions on how to set up Mosquitto broker and Zigbee2MQTT on HA Yellow? I'm new here and can't find any working documentation/manual on how to set this up.
The Z2M add-on needs the following config:

Yes I have switched to Mulit-Pan
data_path: /config/zigbee2mqtt
socat:
enabled: true
master: pty,raw,echo=0,link=/tmp/ttyZ2M,mode=777
slave: tcp-listen:8485,keepalive,nodelay,reuseaddr,keepidle=1,keepintvl=1,keepcnt=5

user: ###

serial:
port: /dev/ttyAMA1
baudrate: 115200
rtscts: true
adapter: ezsp
Oh. That changes the firmware on the radio. It needs to be flashed back to the EZSP firmware or Z2M needs to be configured to use the Multi-pan add-on.
Can you help me with it? second option
My guess would be:
port: 'socket://c8f00288-silabs-multiprotocol:9999'
Maybe the hostname needs to be altered to the multi-pan's hostname and maybe socket needs to be changed to tcp. Haven't tried it yet and I don't remember anyone posting a working Z2M/Multi-pan config
No success - I'm going to flash old FW
Maybe falstaff321 knows the Z2M config to use 🤷
It should be tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999
port: /dev/ttyAMA1 replaced tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999 ? Sorry I'm new in HA and I cannot find docu to learn it
/dev/ttyAMA1 should be replaced with "tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999". It'll only work with the multi-protocol addon running.
I did it:
data_path: /config/zigbee2mqtt socat: enabled: false master: pty,raw,echo=0,link=/tmp/ttyZ2M,mode=777 slave: tcp-listen:8485,keepalive,nodelay,reuseaddr,keepidle=1,keepintvl=1,keepcnt=5 options: "-d -d" log: false mqtt: server: mqtt://localhost:1883 user: homeassistant password: ### serial: port: tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999 baudrate: 115200 rtscts: true adapter: ezsp
and no success:

Is there a official driver for the Silicon Yellow chip for Raspbian (Debian) ?
I run HA on the Yellow with docker and want to use the Matter feature ^^
It needs to be
serial:
port: 'tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999'
With apostrophes or quotation marks.
@wicked chasm I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Too many colons in a line
I'll keep my one colon thanks
@dusk vortex is the part with adapter ezsp and so on still neded with a tcp connection? 🤔
Yeah, Z2M treats the serial port as a znp adapter otherwise
Baudrate and RTS/CTS config can probably be removed, but they likely won't hurt
@wicked chasm Is the Multi-pan add-on running?
[core-ssh ~]$ ping core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999 PING core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999 (172.30.32.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 172.30.32.1: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.177 ms 64 bytes from 172.30.32.1: seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.235 ms
@shut cedar If I want to use the Yellow Silicon Chip for ZigBee & OpenThread/Matter ... which firmware I have to flash? And ...what I have to install to use matter (I'm not using HA Supervisor, I use RaspiOS + docker)
The SiLabs Multiprotocol add-on should install the right firmware automatically
Ah, maybe not because of RPi OS. The Multi-PAN 4.2.1 firmware would be the one the add-on is installing
@wicked chasm did it end up working for you, with apostrophes?
FWIW, If you want to move back to pure Zigbee, stopping (and disabling) the Silicon Labs Multiprotocol add-on and then flashing the stick on your PC using https://skyconnect.home-assistant.io/ to the Zigbee firmware is the easiest way to revert back to pure Zigbee.
Good Morning 🙂 I try to flash the firmware with
universal-silabs-flasher --device /dev/ttyAMA1 \
--baudrate 115200 --bootloader-baudrate 115200 \
flash --allow-cross-flashing --firmware NabuCasa_Yellow_RCP_v4.1.4_rcp-uart-hw-802154_115200.gbl
But at 63% I got the message Error: Firmware image was rejected by the device. Ensure this is the correct image for this device.
Before it says
2023-02-15 08:28:16 homeassistant universal_silabs_flasher.flash[104] INFO Detected running firmware ApplicationType.EZSP, version 6.10.3.0.297
ok, 1 try more and it works 😉
Hm, never had hickups on flashing on Yellow, maybe some other process interferred? Anyways, glad it worked.
FWIW, the latest add-on uses 4.2.1 already
it was in the "beta" folder (the 4.2) xD
Yes. The whole Multi-PAN/Multiprotocol support is experimental 😅
I guess the firmware itself is as well tested as 4.1.4 at this point, so I might as well promote it.
True, because in my point of view it look like "4.1.4" is stable and the 4.2 is beta
But other question beside ... I remember long time ago, that the doc support docker as well. Later the HA Supervisor was mark't als only official way. My question .. why? The big point of HA / HA Yellow is "go away from Cloud, run it locally, open source ..." and at this point, its "feels" normal that docker have to be full supported as well.
I think, ppl who use HA or HA Yellow have more experience with Raspberry and Linux in self and like me, I run on the Yellow more than 15 container. For me the HA Yellow/ HA + Dongle was always the brain of my home network (beside the real router). And with HA Supervisor, "you" remove the freedom again like all other SmartHubs :/
Hay yall, ordered a whole 'HA Yellow' that includes the CM4 way back on 20 March 2022 through crowd supply. The estimated shipping of my order was updated several times, the last time was Dec9 2022, saying '27 Jan 2023' . Delay I presume is all to do with the CM4. The complete absence of comm's from the project is not cool. I can wait, but 2 months silence is too much 🙂 Anyone here have additional info?
yes; hardware shortages galore sadly
I assumed as much. Not so concerned about that - just the lack of any updates for 2 months, especially when their latest delivery date slipped 3 weeks ago. The crowd funding seems to have been wildly successful, so I assume they don't lack funds to update a little more regularly 🙂
Issue stems from crowd supply being very bad at communication to the nabu casa team
So NC end up stuck with communication like everyone else
My HA Yellow is not responding any more. Again. The first time this happened (a couple of weeks ago), it was wired to my router through a switch. I moved it so that it was wired directly to my router, I thought the problem was done. But tonight it's back, and worse than ever. At least before, if I tried multiple times and cleared my cash, I could get through. Now, it's just not responding at all. I've switched out ethernet cables, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. Power cycling doesn't help. I don't know what to do.
When you say not responding, is it that you can't connect to it in a browser or is it also not performing automations or accessible via SSH?
And when you try and connect to it via browser are you using its IP or to homeassistant.local?
Ok - So because Crowd Supply are poor at communication with Nabu Casa, Nabu Casa are in response not communicating with those that crowd funded them - their customers. That seems pretty weird. All that is needed is a 'Hey its been 2 months since we last updated you and we have no news because Crowd Supply are keeping us in the dark'
I don't have any automations set up in it yet, so I don't know if the automations would work. I can't connect to it via the browser, and I only knew how to access it through the SSH I installed in HA.
What about on port 4357
When I'm trying to connect via browser, I use homeassistant.local:8123 but I also tried homeassistant:8123. I tried the IP I had in my history, but again got the "timed out" page. Windows diagnostics said my computer was set up correctly, but that Home Assistant wasn't responding.
And then people complain that they're not giving enough detail
There have been a lot of yellows shipping, it's just CS delays orders quietly until the next mass shipment. Whether or not your yellow will be there
Any ability to verify the IP from your router?
Check your router. See what IP home assistant has
If you never set a static IP there's a good chance it's changed
And mDNS with homeassistant.local is hopeless at best, useless generally
My router doesn't show HA at all.
Then HA isn't getting a lease
Have you changed anything?
Or did it just go overnight
When you say it doesn't show home assistant - do you recognize all devices on your network and know that HA isn't one of them or do you just not see anything that is obviously HA?
I mean "Nope, I didn't change anything"
I don't see anything that's obviously HA. I only have four things on the network. Desktop, laptop, wireless mesh, and what I think is the Hue hub.
Trying to eliminate obvious stuff first like the fact that it snuck into another IP and mDNS isn't working (home assistant tells your network about homeassistant.local using a protocol called mDNS which isn't super reliable on some networks)
*most networks lol
Yeah, truth
lol
Ok, so sounds like it's not getting an IP
You said wireless mesh, do you have 2 networks? A mesh one and this router?
You could try some real basic troubleshooting for not getting an IP. Reboot, new cable, different port, etc. Validate the Ethernet port lights come on.
Well, the mesh one is connected to the router, but it is using the same name. However, I figured since HA is wired directly into the router, the mesh didn't really matter.
If the mesh is a separate network and the computer you are on is on the mesh, there might not be a good route to the router's network
I did the reboot, and a new cable. Haven't tried a different port. I'll do a search and see about doing that.
But that doesn't matter much if it isn't getting an IP
My laptop is wired, but it is wired into the switch, not directly to the router. Maybe the switch is bad?
Anything is possible. Good to eliminate possibilities if you can
Is the mesh network operating as just an access point or an entire network. You may encounter issues generally with your network if the latter
Is this a physical network ethernet or wifi?
I have an ethernet for the desktop, laptop, Hue hub, wireless mesh, and HA. I use a wifi network for everything else.
Cool so your desktop should be on the same physical network as the HA
Yes, and the desktop and the HA are both directly plugged into the router, and can't access HA from either desktop or laptop
Ok so - checked cable ? Swap known good one for the one the HA uses
I swapped the cable for a known good one, and still no IP and I can't access it through the browser. Still trying out how to access it from my command prompt. (Everything I've found so far, is how to install SSH to HA, which I've done but can't access 🙂
If it's not getting an IP address SSH won't help you
You'll need to do the direct console which someone else may be able to advise as I'm not sure how to
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-windows/, you might need to get the driver from Silicon Labs website itself it it does not autoinstall.
Worth noting this isn't SSH but it's your last resort option if all else fails. It does give you the prompt as if you were SSH-ing.
Has anyone had any problems with zigbee at all? during any restart all my zigbee devices fail to reconnect on the yellow
I am looking to purchase a UK power supply for Yellow PoE kit. This one looks to match the specs of the one offered for $40 (inc shipping) through Crowd Supply. https://www.amazon.co.uk/12V-3A-Power-Supply-Adapter/dp/B07HQ2VKPK/
12V 3A 36W
Im using this one https://thepihut.com/products/12v-2a-power-supply-with-2-1mm-barrel-jack Running Zigbee, Z-wave and NVMe no problems at all
You could just get a PoE injector
I have a PoE switch. Just keen to have a PSA for initial setup or if there are any issues with PoE on the Yellow.
@sage walrus are you around?
Yeah!
ah there you are.
you have a ticket in about the usb ports, right?
let me see if @shut cedar is still here
I do! I sent an email last night
DM'd you
@sage walrus hm, lsusb on my Yellow without something connected looks like that:
# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1a40:0101
The first entry is the root hub. The second is the on-board USB Hub. The second line is missing, so that means your USB hub chip is broken 😢
You'll have to open a RMA case with CrowdSupply (https://www.crowdsupply.com/contact/return-product). I'll send you an email through support, I'd like to check our factory logs on this unit.
How does one update the firmware on a Yellow?
And is there a list of updates on what each firmware upgrade brings?
Which firmware are you referring to? The main operating system, or the firmware for the Zigbee/Thread radio?
Both, I guess lol 😅
HA OS will show updates from time to time. You can find the current version at Settings > About
@valid terrace
Ty 🙂
Did you get this fixed? Super curious how it went.
I have POE version, works a treat on Unifi Switch, don't bother with external power supply IMO
Sadly yes and no. Again. I can now log into HA, but it's still not getting an IP. I admit I got HA as a hobby to keep be busy after my husband died, but I wasn't expecting this level of....devotion to just getting it up and running 🙂
how are you logging into HA if it can't get an IP?
I'm opening a browser window and going to homeassistant.local:8123
ok that means it does have an IP, otherwise that wouldn't work
I'd think that, but it's not showing up on my router
don't know how technical you are but homeassistant.local will resolve to an IP
And nothing that needs cloud access is working
I was tech support back in the mid 90's (may I never be so hungry for work again) since then, nothing, so let's operate on the idea that I know nothing 🙂
I've had strange issues with some devices with my switch, I had to restart the switch to sort it out. Have you restarted the router? I am starting to suspect the router.
windows/mac?
My poor router is getting restarted every day. Sometimes that does nothing (though everything else in the house works)
windows

I'll walk you through finding the IP, which should identify if its the yellow or the router (potentially)
That would be awesome! Thank you!

ahhh, I see, your router is assigning an IPV6 address but may not be assigning an ipv4
What gets me is that sometimes it works 🙂
the simple solution is to turn off ipv6 addresses for your local network (you really don't need them anyway). If you tell me what brand your router is I might be able to find some instructions
Arris
the yellow may not be handling the ipv6 address well, not too sure, but no one needs ipv6 on their local network anyway.
Yesterday when I was pinging it, it was 100% loss packets
Looking at my router, I see this : IPv6 Status: Disabled
Not sure what your looking at but you want ipv6 disabled on DHCP
ipv6 can also be given from your internet provider
Wow, that's not great then
lets ignore the internet provider part as its irrelevant to this issue.
Can you find your DHCP settings in your router?
Let me look (probably not, but if they are listed, maybe 🙂 )
Ok, googled it, found it under Windows>settings>ethernet>my network
But that's not my router, right?
Yeah that is your own, you want to go into your router
ok, let me try again
Yeah, there it just says DHCP enabled
yup there should be further settings, might have to go to advanced
should give you the ip range and start and end ip for the DHCP settings
and of course ipv4/ipv6 enabled
whatever you do, don't turn DHCP off
I think I'll have to reach out to my ISP. I tried that earlier today and it asked for the password from my router, but it won't accept the password.
But I really, really appreciate your help!
ok, yeah they may be able to disable it remotely, do ask them when you give them a call.
I will, thank you!
no problem, totally understand the frustration. Just happened across your plight haha.
Sent an RMA case! Is cross-shipping an option? I can't be without my HA and I don't have other hardware to run it on at this moment.
@rancid quartz are you around? I just wanted to tell you that you are a genius! Setting a fixed IP in my router for HA and setting that IP as a fixed IP for my HA fixed the problem! Thank you so much!
Awesome! Glad it's all sorted for you! Enjoy your HA Yellow
I'm happy (with great sarcasm) to announce that CrowdSupply do not refund the taxes you paid in full
What region are you in?
Backers in regions for which Crowd Supply collects taxes, such as the US, EU, UK, and Australia, will be charged tax at checkout. For all other regions, backers are responsible for any import and sales taxes applicable to their region.```
EU. I was charged when I bought and due to CrowdSupply's inability to provide FedEx with the correct paperwork
I was charged by FedEx as well. I'm guessing CrowdSupply doesn't pay FedEx's administrative fees
so crowdsupply initially updated my "estimated to ship" to feb 10th, but then again to mar 3rd... why do they bother putting values in when they can't honour them?
can we get a fucking update that explains what is actually going on and when we can actually expect our Yellows?
it's so frustrating, i thought the problem was sourcing cm4s, so ordering without one should mean i could expect reasonably accurate delivery times
but apparently not
I didn't have an issue here, well initially they only refunded me the tax portion of the order, but after clarifying the import fees being 25% of the total amount plus the administrative fee they asked me how much they were missing and refunded me the whole amount
Though if you do not get them to refund you, I would definitely talk to my bank next about a chargeback
The issue is the worldwide shortage of chips. Which is also the same reason for pi's being so far out of stock
ok but why are they updating with feb 10th if they won't actually be able to ship by then
the update to feb 10th came like days before feb 10th, and then it slipped to mar 3rd, which is quite a long slip
should i expect it to slip again? are they just putting numbers there to shut me up? because i don't appreciate that, i want honesty, not lies
You’re just gonna have to wait. I’ve played this waiting game with multiple electronic purchases over the last two years.. it always gets there in the end..
i don't care that it's delayed, just tell me honestly when it's expected, don't keep giving me false info...
Issue is seems to be crowd supply don't know how many orders are per container load
So each date is each next container
They seem useless in communication, but the delays are out of their control
I’ve sent another e-mail so we’ll see. They saw the FedEx invoice I paid so there really isn’t ant excuse. My bank will not provide the difference
I don't see how, the process is mandated by EMV/Law
But hopefully a second attempt will solve everything 🙂
Has anyone here been able to get a Google Coral USB running reliably with the Yellow and Frigate? I've tried it directly and via a powered USB hub, but I keep getting communication errors in Frigate.
Reading last project update
"About 2000 Yellow and Yellow Kits have been shipped to backers"
"The second production run of ~2300 units"
"the third production run, consisting of 2500 pcs Yellow PoE"
"We are currently working on the fourth production run"
Uwe update stated "a few hundred more orders (mostly PoE and US kits, but some EU and UK kits as well)"
and "I can amend this with the information that 1.1k devices are supposed to arrive in their warehouse early next week! "
Also a few Standard Yellows (with CM4) are supposed to be shipped to them somewhere soon.
all of this will make a total of 7900 and a few hundreds. Total backers as of today is 8869. If I am not wrong still several hundreds missing to fullfill March delivery time. Am i missing something?
I've ordered one for me and one for my brothers - could be others having ordered multiples as well; however I'm not buying the whole pointing at each others for not being able to issue reliable estimates; okay crowd supply doesnt know how many there will be in future batches - but there is no reason they couldnt have known the amount for both the january and february batch and updated everyone not in that to march straight away (or even emailed customers about the update to the shipping schedule and not just quietly changing the info on the order details page)
EMV?
Eurocard/Mastercard/Visa
Maybe I need to ask my colleagues again. They said the bank won’t reimburse
It's not the bank reimbursing you they're basically reversing the transaction by force
Alright
And as far as I know if your card is one of those your issuing bank has to implement it
I’ll have a chat with American Express
(not to mention EU itself already mandates some of these controls by law too)
unfortunately dont think the bank will care, as the rules are written for ioss/voec at least any import fees is on the buyer even if the seller screws up the documentation seller is only required to refund the vat the seller charged. if this was supposed to be ddp and not ioss it may be different.
then again others have said crowdsupply refunded the full amount fedex charged so it seems silly to now start being difficult
Yeah you should only do it as the last resort
Usually any company you run into who you chargeback will usually also make sure not to ever do business with you again because of the costs associated with being charged back
Whether the bank cares though is as far as I'm aware irrelevant, they just have to process the paperwork if it's filled out correctly
Currently chatting with Amex so we’ll see what happens
well, the bank will not reverse a legal charge (at least my bank wont - even have to file a police report before going to the bank)
It’s only SEK150 but given how crappy CS is, I won’t back down yet
It's not legal when the agreed upon service wasn't provided, but I can't speak your bank 🤷♂️
thats where the wording of the ioss stuff comes into play; as long as the seller refunds the vat you're on your own.
If they want to reimburse under damages, it’s up to them
they can if they want to, but they don't have to.
Let’s just remember that we all operate in different jurisdictions
i think the included tax was only for eu countries - so likely the same rules?
Rules on damages varies across EU too
anyways, probably better to see what nabucasa says - they didn't specify wheather or not crowdsupply would refund the fees and the tax or just the tax(vat).
Consumer protection laws are generally better here, I lost almost $100 from them not doing what they agreed to do. A few years ago Tesla refused to sell a car because they forgot to include applicable fees, they didn't sell the car and was forced to reimburse the opportunity loss of around 20000 euro for the would-be buyer
you dont have consumer protection when you import stuff
I was talking in general terms
EMV mandates a chargeback process where consumers of their creditcards can issue a reversal of a transaction if they feel like they weren't provided with what was agreed upon. From there on it's on the merchant to prove fraud on the consumers part
If you want to carry their cards you implement that process, or you don't carry their cards
American Express can’t/won’t help
which means the seller just have to show they refunded the vat and scot free (system is flawed!)
Only open an investigation on disputed charges
The money is in the hands of the consumer at this point so there's nothing to scot free
so they wouldnt let you dispute the charge? or just chat that couldnt do much and you have to fill out the forms?
Still investigating as I don’t understand what they are actually saying
Worse in denmark! #kamelåså
Hopefully a good outcome
Let’s hope, otherwise CS might see reason
They certainly have some explaining to do as to why they have refunded the fees for some, but not all.
Probably either luck of the draw or them finding out that it's expensive
Or they messed up so much it’s now costing them a lot of money so their course of action is to only refund VAT and not all other costs their mistake cost people
between 2-5k orders shipped before they stared fixing it, maybe €15 average for each order that had vat included (i.e. only the listed eu countries) so its not nothing, but it certainly won't help them make more money
Amex created a disputed charge for the difference even though I’m not sure it is actually a disputed charge. I’ll let Amex judge if it is considered a disputed charge or not
CS uses a third party payment provider so they cannot dispute the charge. This entire purchase is turning into a farce
Luckily Home Assistant is an excellent software
Note it wasn't crowd supply's fault for the vat issue. That was between mouser and FedEx
CrowdSupply is owned by Mouser, so...
My purchase was with CrowdSupply. They are responsible for their delivery and warehouse suppliers
Especially since I was in contact with Mouser first and they refer to CS
Received the Yellow a month ago, still haven’t received a tax-bill from UPS. I’m not complaining…
I’ll send you a tax bill if it makes you feel included
Received my Optane drive from eBay, doesn't show up, oof
You can have mine too 😉
whats is the blue led light for? I had that lit up for a while, but its turned off after some updates?
It's a status LED for the Zigbee radio.

are there known zigbee issues with the built in radio in yellow? I'm having issues with my zigbee network that I didn't have some months ago when I was using a conbee II.
I've got 3x sonoff sensors that seem to work fine but always report 'interview failed' in Z2MQTT and I also have a some water leak sensors that have been working fine but I just tried to repair one of them and now it leaves the network after 30 seconds or so...
The Zigbee radio just has experimental support in Z2M.
Bugger. I've got a device that won't work in ZHA - limiting me from moving over to that. Wish I could.
I printed a new top shell for my Yellow, with perforations above the CM4 and NVME. It’s a bit early to be labelling it a complete success, but cpu temp looks about 10 degrees Celsius lower on average
My regular 3am backup peaked the CPU at 65c rather than 75c 🤷♂️
Mine is running at 46-49c 🤔
That’s entirely normal for passive cooling. Lits is probably running more intense stuff like cameras
so - in mucking around with thing i don't understand well enough, I have enabled zigbee multithread support on the yellow. It totally disables Z2MQTT though. I'm trying to revert the firmware but am falling over on the instuctions here: https://github.com/NabuCasa/silabs-firmware/wiki/Flash-Silicon-Labs-radio-firmware-manually
line 1 - $ pip install universal-silabs-flasher
results in zsh: command not found: $
if I remove the $ then I get some action, but I'm not sure it is succesful, given the dropped $ which I think is to do with permissions.
╰─> cffi```
Make sure you're inside of the HA Core container: docker exec -it homeassistant bash
Note that you can still use Z2M, it just has to be configured to connect to the addon (since the addon talks to the radio now): port: 'tcp://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999'
ah! I will try the latter first. Work and HA tinkering is clashing for me, will report back soon
Oh I wish this was in the instruction - kind of an assumed knowledge I think
which of the included firmwares is the 'default' yellow zigbee firmware?
my zigbee is running but somehow the blue led is not on tho? Any idea?
EmberZNet OpenThreadRCP```
Nevermind, I've got it sorted.
EmberZNet firmware... back to where I started now, with a working Z2MQTT network.
Does anyone know whether I have to wipe all the partitions on the NVME before installing on the Yellow?
You don't live in the firehell that is Australia though
It is just slightly flashing on activity. Not very prominent, so nothing to worry about.
News on VAT from CrowdSupply. They pay the administrative fees as well but you might have to remind them
Interesting that the newer beta firmware resolved some zigbee devices that would fail interview in Z2MQTT. Will there be more user friendly ways to update the radio firmware in future releases?
It will be able to be flashed with the SL Web Tools. Maybe the SkyConnect one works with the Yellow too ( https://skyconnect.home-assistant.io/firmware-update/ ). I suppose, there will be an UI option later.
I payed the VAT to FedEX upon request, can I still reclaim it?
You need to contact CrowdSupply, provide them the receipt from FedEx and they will reimburse it to you.
And remind them to pay administrative fees from Fedex too
Is there anyway to find out shipping date on a couple yellows I ordered last August?
An estimation is shown in your purchase details of your CrowdSupply account. But it is just an estimation - be prepared for delays. The CS estimations don't have the best reputation in this community.
@wary pivot thanks!
hi guys , need help .i already install standard HA in CM4 emmc before i got yellow box , now according the guide for yellow box , i use USB to install HA for Yellow box system to nvme SSD , but still start up with emmc system . how to fix this ?
The USB method will always install to eMMC unless it is a CM4 Lite.
found the way , use the red and blue button .
Ah. You didn't mean the installer USB stick. 😆
Did they finally make the blue button do something?
It did something for long. If I remember correct, holding the blue button for 5 secs shuts the Yellow down. Holding red on powerup does a factory reset, holding red and blue on powerup does a complete wipe (including OS).
So since I ordered a PoE without a CM4, should I trust that the March 3rd date I currently see is reliable?
No.
Why?
CrowdSupply's estimations have no good reputation in this community. They are postponed without further notice sometimes.
@leaden frost When did you order?
Oct 2022
Oof
But again, without CM4, which is the most strained part right?
Seems like they ship out of Hong Kong? Man.. I used to live there, coulda gone and kicked down the door
Got any mates there you can have do us a favour?
@leaden frost I don't dare to say might get your Kit soon, but there's a chance! There's a chunk in the Western US already, soon to be sent out from Texas...
🤞
Definitely, CM4's are the part that makes everything unpredictable, for the full version we can't really say anything, neither Nabu Casa nor Crowd Supply
The ones just shipping from Hong Kong are all full versions with CM4's ! Unfortunately it's just 130, hence no party emoji 😢
I've actually had my CM4 for a while hehe, 8GB RAM, WiFi, 32GB eMMC
Ah, 130 with cm4 wasnt clear from the update, not to me at least. Nor if the 1941 units headed for mouser are enough to cover remaining orders. Guess we'll wait and see come march 3rd.
Appreciate they probably wouldn't want to disclose how many pre-orders are outstanding but, perhaps they could advise for pre-orders placed before what date, should be fulfilled by the 1941 units?
Hello, i have an issue with the NVME on the yellow. I used it for the userdata, now i made a fresh Installation on the emmc, now i have no more access to the NVME, i see the old partions in the hardware tab. Is there a way to format it? I have no other option to connect the disk.
Your NVMe isn't shown as data disk migration option? I just wiped all partitions on mine, created one big new one, but didn't format it.
I think i need to wipe the NVMe, but i dont know how to do that. Sadly i have no other device with NVMe slot.
Just to be sure... if you go to Settings - System - Storage (Einstellungen - System - Speicher), does it show available space and eMMC lifetime or available space only?
It shows the available space of the eMMC and also the lifetime. In the three dots menu there is no disk available. If i go to the hardware tab, the NVMe is listned with the old partions.
Ok. Are you familiar with Linux CLI commands?
A little bit 😁
You can get access to the NVMe, if you connect your running Yellow to your computer via the USB-C port. That provides a serial console to the Operating System. There you can use a Linux partitioning command (not sure if it is fdisk or parted).
Thanks Jorg, it worked 👍
Yeah, basically it looks like home assistant looks at a partition label and if it's present you can't do anything with it (like use it as a data disk) so serial console is the only option at the moment
Does the yellow require an stable 12v source or could that also be a LiFePo4 battery (max. 10-14.6v)
I run my LiFePo4 between 12 and 14volts
I have just received shipping notification to Spain and FedEx tracking number of my yellow EU kit from crowd supply !! 😃. Ordered in Nov 2022.
Ordered in January 2022 and still waiting if it ships on March 3rd.
https://fscdn.rohm.com/en/products/databook/datasheet/ic/power/switching_regulator/bd9d321efj-e.pdf is the power IC thats being used
4.5-18v input, but not 100% sure how it was wired up
Yes, i have seen that too... so i am not sure now if i require an additional meanwell psu
looking at the data sheet, it looks like you should be good to go up to 14v, but I'm looking at the schematic
Yea, looking at the schematic, it should work, I can plug mine in and see if it goes pop at 14v though if you need 🙂
Even if i would like to ask you to try. Thats something i cant ask you to do.
Thanks anyway!
I got an email that my order shipped! I'm glad I got a CM4008016 back in September, this is gonna be awesome.
Ordered in June 2022 and now my order is listed for August 2023 😦
I just plugged it in and works
Wish I could change my order to not include a CM4 module and let me supply my own
TP9/10 show the correct voltage, maybe 50 or 100 millivolts higher, but nothing of note
3.35v and 4.99v for those rails
@dusky hollowv
Thanks!!!
np, I am on an all hands/conference call and did my portion of the call so wasn't busy 🙂
Contact CrowdSupply's support. Maybe they can change your order.
Me too is march 3. I dont understand why since the newsletter said everyone without issues have got their POE.
Well... everyone without issues got one. All other have the issue that they didn't get one. 😝 Sorry - couldn't resist.
That would anyways highly depend on what device exactly (like POE is way more likely than Standard Yellow with CM4)
Either way, Nabu Casa couldn't provide you with this info
Are you amongst the original backers @mystic iron as this is what the newsletter mentioned?
I backed Sep 15, 2021
so yes I am an original backer
Oooookay... Something is really wrong here! I'm sorry to hear that
The newsletter says 95% of 'backer' orders have been delivered. I'm assuming that the 8,932 backers shown on Crowd Supply is not just those who ordered before October 27, 2021? If my assumption is wrong, then 5% would be roughly 446. The update mentions that many of the pre-orders placed since Oct 27th have also been full filled so fingers crossed some of those 1,941 (psa + poe kit) units will full fill the majority of remaining non-CM4 Yellow pre-orders.
@mystic iron I asked back with CrowdSupply! Your case confuses me because the POE version should as far as I know be fully and 100% covered, except for serious shipping issues or sanctioned countries or something alike, but then you should know
I have no idea. I just checked it and its no issue with any information there (shipping etc), and its paid so that should not be the problem
Its Norway and I know others have gotten it here, that backed months after me
Curious, does anyone that received their Yellow recently recall what date was shown on Crowd Supply? Should it say Next batch due to ship on ... rather than Orders placed now ship Mar 03, 2023. or are they genuinely optimistic for that date?
I think if it should be a problem like an address they should send it right away when updating the address, and not put those in the back of the line at least
In my case it shipped yesterday and when I ordered CS web page said Jan 27, 2023
ouch. I can see why Stefan makes the comment about making the shipping estimates more reliable then. I'm not feeling so optimistic about 3/3 suddenly.
How is it possible you got it sent, while early backers dont get it? I dont want to complain, but that is just plainly unfair!
Mine just shipped today and was March 3rd, I placed my order Feb 14 2022
where are you guys located?
Im in USA
PoE?
No, the regular one
With the CM4, or the power supply kit?
@serene plaza Valentine's day 2022 or 23?
I got a CM4008016 in the fall that is all ready to go. It was 2022
Standard kit ordered in Nov 2022. I am located in Spain
Ok. So originally estimated to be a couple of months after you ordered and actually dispatched about a month later than the original estimate.
@shy saffron Some of CS numbers don't add up, to be quite honest, at least not what's exposed to us! What I can tell you (and that's for sure 😉) is that we delivered 6.849 devices so far to Mouser and 1.941 coming soon and 130 also not too much later.
You could continue calculating for yourself, but as said, numbers we have don't really add up
Thank you. Just keen to get an idea of how realistic 3/3 is for an order placed for a PoE kit earlier this month. If I'm lucky, the majority of those 1,941 might be Yellow (PoE) Kit versions and the remaining pre-orders might be for CM4 versions.
At least the first additional distributor for Europe is announced.
Not helping anyone who ordered, but for future purchases.
I missed that. Who is it please?
A very personal opinion here and probably wishful thinking, so take it with a grain of salt or two, but the fact that CS has a) massively moved their delivery date for the CM4 version (End of August imho IS realistic as Raspberry promises to gain speed around July) and b) stopped taking additional pre-orders makes me hope that the current dates for other units are realistic as well now 🤞
How could one not agree! I'm really sorry and I honestly hope you have your Yellow super soon 🤞.
They will stop taking (pre-)orders as soon as the batch they know is under way is sold out! That's pretty sure! It's just the way they work and an important reason why they are the first outside distributor
Its alright. Im not in a super hurry, as things are working great already. I have to reset the whole zigbee network anyway since the zigbee chip doesnt work properly with z2m
Speaking of distributors, US folks 👋 : Who would be your preferred distributor in US?
Do you think the official Pi Store in Cambridge, UK will be stocking the Yellow? Or more likely one of the online retailers like The Pi Hut or Pimoroni?
The Pi Hut is distributor for SkyConnects. So I wouldn't be surprised , if they would become one for Yellow too.
I have to give it to them, when they first ship, they ship fast 😂 At the time of writing, my package has been traveling at a average speed of 243km/h (150mph)! From Texas to Oslo Norway
That average is over 39 hours
For the shipping discussion, i can add that i placed my order on 18. November 2022, no CM4, regular non-PoE with EU PSU, shipped 22. Feb
Almost identical situation here!. Delivered to Seville in less than 48 h. Regular non-POE EU kit ordered Nov 29, 2022, shipped on the 22 of Feb and delivered today with FedEX. Great job!
Unfortunately i dont live in Oslo, i live on the south coast, so i will probably still have to wait for next week. Was just blown away about the speed from US to Norway 😂
I received my POE-version 20 of January, it was sent the 19 of January, and I live in Kongsberg 😬
My coworker who lives in Søgne got his Today, was sent at the same time. I live in Birkeland, so it needs another day (read weekend) to be sent into the woods 😅 RIP weekend activity 😢
That sucks 😖
I lost all hope when posten took over the shipment 😂
Why are you others in Norway getting yours, while the one I ordered as an early backer has not been sent. So at least its not a country issue
Have you contacted CrowdSupply's support?
yeah, nobody knows why I have not gotten it
and my order was placed on Sep 15, 2021 so defently should have been sent
no.
Well, your coworker(me), did offer you to go get his though....
Yes, i will if you can take the kids as well 😂
But. On the last note.... I got mine!! and now i need a ssd... Is there any requrements to the disk other than nvme ssd?
Just send them here. My own will love to take care of a todler and a baby. They would be in heaven...
Hey 🙂 I'd love to use the Yellow without HAOS. Is there some docs on the device tree overlays required?
Hi,
not sure if this fits better here or in the zigbee channel. I recently received my yellow and I am having issues with my hue motions sensors ever since. The regularly go offline until I re-pair them. Does anyone have similar issues?
Was someone able to use the MGM210P via Docker in Home Assistant Yellow? I forward the /dev/ttyAMA1 to the container, but if i try to add it to zha, he ask wich chick .. I select Silicon Labs EmberZNet and 115200 rate with hardware. But fails to connect :/
Maybe it is because I flashed RCP Multi-PAN ... so ... I think I need something else on the host system :/
Please correct me, but if I want to use ZigBee and Matter , I have to use RCP Multi-PAN or ?
Yes, but it depends on the software running in the "Silicon Labs Multiprotocol" add-on.
Well... technically not Zigbee and Matter, but Zigbee and Thread
Home Assistant need a "Docker/Portainer Addon" 😦
If you think that you should run home assistant docker install, not HAOS
You mean this? https://github.com/MikeJMcGuire/hass-portainer
Yeah don't
You will break your install with that
I’ve used it in the past with no issues. I don’t anymore though lol
That said, don’t mess with the existing containers. I only used this to run a couple of other containers
Which can also break your install
That is not supported for HAOS or supervised
If you want to run other things run debian and run everything with docker yourself. No supervisor or add ons
The good news is I got my yellow today, got it all set up, restored a backup, updated everything to current and all seems well. The unfortunate part is it is for a seasonal property and its winter time so I'm not gonna be able to switch it over for a couple months, so its back in the box, patiently waiting for warmer days.
Nah you gotta brave the cold
In the manual of Aeotec (https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000246463-setup-z-pi-7-with-home-assistant-and-zwavejs-ui-on-a-raspberry-pi) it is described, that you have to switch off the BT via the configfile... Is that true also for the yellow?
Yes works fine.
No, it works without configfile changes. BT doesn't need to be switched off on the Yellow.
Thanks for the quick answer! Nice that it works like that. In that case, i found suitable keyfob: https://www.fibaro.com/en/products/keyfob/
I try to run everything on plan Debian with docker, but it’s still hard to get everything working on ha yellow 😦
Yes, there are better options for a pure debian setup, modern CPUs offer a lot more headroom and expandability, plus low power usage @drifting kestrel
Alder lake / raptor lake is even fanless and can be found in sub 10w usage
NOK 1,662.78 20%OFF | Beelink Min S12/S12 Pro Windows 11 Mini PC Intel 11th Gen N95 N100 DDR4 8GB 500GB SSD 2.4G&5G Dual Wifi BT5.2 1000M LAN 16G 500G

Etc
That is fan based, but there are other models
I have the USB Aeotec Z stick 7 and a Wireless CM4 in yellow. No issues and Bluetooth working with Zwave
Currently I want to replace my Synology 8 bay with new sever rack
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1LHvT2fRp7I6Hf18LcSzsNnjp10VI-odvwZpQZKv_NCI/htmlview
But still use ha yellow in the living room. But use Docker to have more control (eg add Postgres timescale) I know there also “add on” but they take the control than
@fresh bough
Then there are a lot of options, you can get a 12bay dual socket system that pulls 200w for nothing
I do not remember I switched BT off explicitly. However, I also don't had it enabled / were actively using this at any point.
Hi, have some similar problem, how did you interface with the yellow to write the journalctl -f --no-pager or where did you do that? Tried “normal” install from USB (no SSD) then tried a troubleshooting step with connecting it to my laptop using USB cable and setting jumpers differently, also tried resetting with blue and red pins, but none of those steps worked, looking for what else to do…any help MUCH appreciated! 🙏
you can also get deals on used hardware on ebay, old NUCs and thin clients
https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/s3vyyq/comment/hsodacz/?context=1
Thin client CPUs that exceed the Pi4's performance
You can connect your Yellow to your computer using the USB-C port. That way you can connect to the serial console and look for error messages the installer might show. Those error messages might help you or someone here.
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-windows/
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-linux-macos/
I had similar issue with Akara motion detector, it kept going offline. I had to re-pair it like 5-10 times but now it is stable, I do not know what changed 🤷
Mhh okay guess I try repairing then thanks!
At some point in time, very likely. But I'm afraid, it will take a large while 😢
@mystic iron I asked back with Crowd Supply! They said the most prominent reason why shipments aren't first-in, first-out would be
customers in the EU that ordered the US version, which can't ship there because it is not CE marked
But you said, POE, correct? We can dig deeper if you give me an order number in a private message...
👋 Owner of a HA yellow with PoE here. Thanks for the great product. I'm loving it!
For me it is kind of a love and hate relationship. 🤣 Tried to run Frigate with a Coral USB with it, but getting USB communication errors. I also tried to use motionEye, but first it crashes the Yellow and it's filesystem. With a later HA version the camera isn't shown anymore (I suppose a ffmpeg version issue). Other than that, we are friends. 😆
There was an EU or US version?
Yes because of provided power cables!
Actually, it was US, EU, UK and AUS
Was there a shortage of EU ones causing people to order US instead? I hope I don't have the opposite problem using a US -> EU freight forwarder
(never mind, PoE should be fine I guess)
In ZHA setup on Yellow, when i try to add /dev/ttyAMA1 with baud 115200 on both Software and Hardware it just says Connection failed?
Do you have the Multi-Pan activated?
With Multi-Pan firmware /dev/ttyAMA1 doesn't work anymore.
Use the Silicon Labs Multiprotocol add-on and socket://<hostname-from-addon>:9999
E.g
socket://core-silabs-multiprotocol:9999
Does anybody also have issues with the pairing of new zigbee devices with the Yello Hardware?
The only pairing problems I had, had been with battery powered devices. Those had to be kept active until the configuration was finished (e.g. keeping motion sensors active, pressing buttons,...)
But that's not Yellow specific.
When i bring the devices near to the yellow it pairs, but with other router i find nothing.
Is the router device itself responding? For example is it turning its light on and off?
Never had any issues pairing any battery or mains powered devices at all with zigbee2mqtt and ti sticks @wary pivot no need to keep awake either
Have to keep them awake till firmware flashing starts usually though
My IKEA motion sensors have always been flakey. Even with Z2M and another radio. Might be a firmware thing.
Am too lazy to replace them 🤣
Yeah. As soon as an IKEA one fails, I replace it by an Aqara one.
Hi! I just got my yellow kit and I have an existing rpi4 with homeassistant OS. Can I just plug that in yellow or does it need some extra drivers or a fresh install done just like in the docs (hopefully not) ?
A RPi4 cannot be plugged in a Yellow. It needs to be a Compute Module 4. The Home Assistant RPi image lacks some settings specific to the Yellow. The best way would be to make a backup, flash the Yellow image and restore the backup.
Aww Man🥲 That explains many things, thanks a lot!
I was skeptical that restoring a backup would be 100% hassle free, but it was! Whole thing only took about 20 minutes.
how big was the backup? i seem to recall it took much much longer with a 6-700mb file. but more importantly it did just-work™️
I guess there is no CM4 alternative on the market that works as a drop-in replacement on the yellow?
Nope
None that is supported or tested - software as well as hardware.
That said, you’re welcome to try. If you do, please share your results
I just let my Yellow update to 2023.3 and now the add-ons store/page is blank and the Scrutiny add-on won't work either.
Have you refreshed your browser cache?
I also got some errors in the log now
2023-03-02 13:01:01.078 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.hassio.handler] /store return code 500
2023-03-02 13:01:01.095 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.hassio] Failed to to call /store -
So, we placing bets on shipping notifications tomorrow, or?
🤞🍀
Anyone get any shipping updates?
~~its only 1pm in texas at the mouser warehose, there is still hope ~~🤞
Hmm 3hr drive away from me in Austin. Shame lol
Emptying caches in Safari does not solve the problem. Quitting/restarting does not either. It does appear that these iframes are being cached somehow. The usual mitigation of putting some random variable in the iframe URL isn't implemented in HA.
Have you tried to reboot the host or to restart or repair the Supervisor?
Yes. I think the answer is that it's a browser cache issue, because using a secondary browser worked. While I'll eventually figure out how to get Safari to be happy, the correct fix is to put in some anti-caching into the HTML in strategic places.
It’s now past 6pm in Texas. Let’s hope for good news after the weekend
I asked in the CrowdSupply discord channel, they said some did ship out today and more will ship over the weekend!
Hello, So I got the yellow finally, but due to my excitement when ordering I did not catch the part that needs RPI COMPUTE MODULE 4. Due to the stock shortage, it's almost impossible to get it anywhere. Any suggestions on where to buy it? or just get on the waiting list? TIA!
Keep an eye out on https://rpilocator.com/ I guess
already monitoring that one 🙂
I ended up getting mine on AliExpress months ago in preparation for this. You still can if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for shipping
I found a CM4 in the official Pi store in Cambridge (UK), if you happen to be local that's an option.
Hello together. Is the J11 Header enabled by default and usable the same way as the RPi header? Or is some kind of configuration necessary?
J11 is enabled by default. Bluetooth doesn't need to be disabled.
I did look there but they're $200+ far from $90 official price
I'm in the States 😞
Time for a vacation
Welp, another "estimated to ship" date has come and gone without tracking info
Ffs crowdsupply, stop putting up useless dates you have no intention of keeping!
Grinds my fucking gears
Keyword “estimate”
A bunch of Home Assistant Yellows did indeed ship today and I expect more will ship over the weekend.
Straight from the crowdsupply discord
Ya, my estimate was Feb, then April, and then all of a sudden this morning it's been shipped.
@vast trellis I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
So I got home assistant yellow, and want to start a fresh install. Do I use phoscon for zigbee devices or is there something else "native"?
ZHA is homeassistant native zigbee thing, but that'll probably mean you have to re-pair devices. might be worth staying with the old solution if you can migrate the network.
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/
Erm... the Zigbee radio should be autodetected by ZHA.
Phoscon/Deconz is for their own coordinators ConBee (2) and RaspBee (2) only.
Im trying to pair elko smart dimmers and thermostats
it is a new house so no need for migration
that should just-work™️ just go to integration and click + add integration, search for zigbee and choose add zigbee device. (or add the zigbee integration first if the add device options isnt available).
will use the built in radio with the native integration
ok thanks. not sure how I pair elko smart though..
- Short press the push button 3 times (< 0,5 s).
https://www.google.com/search?q=elko+dimmer+zigbee+pairing i'm sure you can find the correct manual, there is usually a dedicated pairing button or some magical pattern to press but thats probably a litt off topic here.
mine got shipped today at least
I’m hoping for good news on Monday, glad people are getting shipment notifications
When did you order yours and which version?
Do I need to have the yellow placed on top of my network rack in order for the range to be better? struggle paring with devices
there is one zigbee thermistor 3 meter away and several zigbee dimmers
just doesnt show up
Placing the Yellow inside a network rack might cause radio issues. So it could be the case, that you need to place it somewhere else
Estimated date has changed to 10th March.
Mine still says March 3. Maaaaybe I’m on the tail end of that batch?
I ordered the PoE version
Communication from CrowdSupply is really bad 😔 Are there no liability laws for Shops in the US? When you say it will be shipped on 3th of March but can’t ship? (Like it said on the 3rd)
I know i haven’t waited as long as some other Backers (October 22), but i would have chosen another bundle - if i would have known the poe problems 😒
@honest rover Same for me PoE, order still showing 3rd. Fingers crossed. It's the new order shipping estimate I had noticed that has changed to the 10th.
Same here, ordered the PoE in January 2022, shipping still shows March 3rd.
i was searching around but didn't find one. is there a STL or STEP for the Yellow case floating around somewhere before i get too deep into making one?
thanks! didn't think to look for official source on Printables 👍
I ordered my POE version in November, ship date still shows March 3rd. Hopefully it ships soon cause I'm pretty sick of running HA in a VM on my desktop 🤣
ship dates be wildin. mine says December. got it yesterday 😆
So more or less expect it in another 3-6 business months 🤣
CS would be so much more accurate with their estimations, if they wouldn't state the estimated year. "Yeah! We expect it to ship it on March 10th. 2023, 2024, 2025... who knows" 🤣
I got a strange behavior on my Yellow, if I go with a system reboot, Yellow boot on CM4 EMMC and if I power cycle the Yellow board it boots on NVME drive.
Anyone facing this ? should I open an issue ? I don't have any idea where to post that 😅
I had a similar behavior when the CPU was under high load. In that case the filesystem was corrupted and the NVMe was disabled. On a reboot Yellow couldn't find it anymore. On a powercycle it was detected again.
So it's likely a problem from the operating system ? I will open an issue on that, it's a mess right now, I got two system reachable with two way to launch them (power cycle vs system reboot)
The thing is they're not promising it to ship on that date. Its just an estimate. Which means any laws would easily be worked around
Lol people here are fiending for that hardware
Agree to Disagree 😉 If you are explicitly saying: “Orders placed now ship Mar 10, 2023.” on the Shop Page and never say something different on the checkout, you would get in trouble in Europe 😉
It doesn’t say “It may”, “It should”, “expected” or “estimate”
Yes, but. 🤣
As soon as you add it to the Shoppig Cart, it is stated "Pre-order, estimated to ship Mar 10, 2023"
But we can agree, that communication is none of CrowdSupply's strengths. Maybe they are good at cooking.
Wouldn’t count as this is seen as fraudulent by (EU) courts. First Page counts.
Doesn’t matter we want this, but its still annoying and i hope you are right with the cooking 😉
For us EU people, I'd recommend to place an order at raspberrypi.dk .
I would doubt it would actually be found as fraudulent. There would be something that would get them out of it
And if it was raised they would just change the first page to estimated date, and keep doing what they're doing now
Then get a refund and cancel your order. Your funds are not being withheld. Where’s the deception?
Ladies and Gentlemen... it's fine to make fun of CrowdSupply or our own mishaps (at least in my opinion). But we shouldn't start to fight each other.
Is there a specific rpi4 board I need to work with yellow?
also; what size m2 drive is recommended?
You need the CM4
Compute module 4
would a model B work or no?
sorry; i never got on the pi craze so i have no clue what i am looking for specifically
Something like this. Not a pi4
A compute module 4
They're two different form factors
would a non wireless version be okay with yellow?
yes, non-wireless is the default (only) option if you order with yellow with cm4.
I have a CM4 with wireless. Looking at the list of supported Bluetooth dongles, is there really much benefit with a (Avantree BTG-40S) dongle this small, over using the CM4's Bluetooth?
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61M0T86F8kL._AC_SL1024_.jpg
You can also use an external antenna with the CM4: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/compute-module-4-antenna-kit/
Ooh, thank you. That seems like a much better option. Does the Yellow have somewhere convenient to mount this antenna?
The wire fits through the ventilation slots, but you would need to drill a hole to fix the screw mount on the case.
If an external dongle has much benefit to you depends on the range needed and the place the Yellow is located.
Nothing a Dremel cannot fix 😉 On a more serious note, a typical USB Bluetooth dongle like the Asus USB-BT500 only has an antenna gain of 0.8 dBi, compared with the 2.0 dBi of the external antenna for the CM4. When you already have a CM4 with Bluetooth (and you are not afraid to get your hands a little dirty), it seems to make more sense to choose the external antenna. But of course, that's only my personal opinion.
You're welcome!
Drill holes? You could just get this and stick it to the inside of the case https://www.adafruit.com/product/2308
4dbi so it’ll have a little more range at the expense of being slightly less omnidirectional
Nice solution too and with an even better gain (4 dBi), thank you for the link! 👍
Personally I would prefer an external antenna to maximize range and avoid interferences but again, personal opinion 😉
Fair enough, I’m considering this flat one so I can keep everything in the case. I don’t think I’ll even need WiFi or bt.. but if I do, i found the antenna I want
Thanks. Will consider it. UK link for those of us unlikely to import from adafruit. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/2-4ghz-mini-flexible-wifi-antenna-with-ufl-connector-100mm
Which side would you stick it to? The edge near the CM4 heat sink?
Depending on the cable length, I would choose the side closest to my BT devices.
Most likely
Hi
I recently had the problem that my Yellow (with SSD) crashed and the frequency of these crashes increased until it did not restart last Friday at all - it just answered to PINGs. That was all I could find out.
Now by an external SSD-Adapter I was able to put a new Installation on that SSD and it seems to work so far.
I am using the Media-Folder as a small local NAS too ant this blows up the backup volumes dramatically. Is there a way to separate the SSD in more than one partition to run one as a data drive? I tried to shrink the HASS-partition under UBUNTU, bit it did not work.
Do you have an idea how to do this?
You can exclude the Media folder from your backups.
Could anyone help me please? I have a Yellow with the CM4 with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I’m getting NETWORK_BUSY messages with Zha and want to disable the Wi-Fi on the CM4. I know you can use the cli to enable/disable things but I was wondering if there is a way to not load the kernel driver at all during boot via a similar boot.txt method as used on a regular Pi?…
connect to the serial console and see rfkill is available? or in config.txt
dtoverlay=disable-wifi
dtoverlay=disable-bt
@paviro#2815 yep having the same problems. The motion sensor works for a while then it goes offline and won’t return. Thread here on GitHub: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/86911
If I rfkill in the cli specifically rfkill list all I get Operation not permitted. There is no boot directory at the root so I can’t access config.txt. Is this located in a different location?
Using the serial console the boot directory can be found at /mnt/boot
Wow - my Yellow (ordered in January 2022, "estimated" shipping date March 3rd 2023) finally has been shipped
Haha, the date on mine was changed in the last hour or two; which is almost funny given its the 7th today..:/
Estimated to ship: Mar 07, 2023
What specific motion sensor?
@dusk vortex SML001 Philips Hue Motion Sensor. Currently have two that have dropped out.
Thanks!
As I see you here, @dusk vortex ... is it a known issue that the Multiproticol add-on is going up to over 20% CPU usage sometimes - and stays like that until add-on restart?
Thanks Jorg. When so get back home I’ll connect to the Yellow via serial and will edit the boot.txt file to disable the Wi-Fi. 😛
Have a look at the config.txt.
If I recall correctly there is no boot.txt.
Ah sorry my bad. I meant config.txt. 🤦
Thanks for the GitHub issue link!
@opaque summit Same for me. 'Estimated to ship' changed from 3rd to 7th today. 🤞
Same. Hoping for that sweet, sweet gmail notification sound lol
Is the addon functional during this time?
Yes, at least no problems with my Zigbee devices. Just using much more CPU. I've set up an automation to notify me the next time it happens. If I can find significant error messages, I can forward those to you, if you like.
At moment the add-on is on log level notice. @dusk vortex
Yellow PoE kit just arrived🤟 I've been running the same HA instance for 3yrs running the same micro SD card
You should buy a lotto ticket
What was the config to disable all onboard leds on the yellow?
Permanently or (most of them) switchable?
Switchable not like break them
I mean switchable within HA for troubleshooting or misusing them for notifications. That would require an automation to turn the LEDs off on HA start.
And permanent as not changeable on the run and requiring editing system files and a hardware reboot.
I'd recommend the switchable option. Am on the way home from work. When I'm home, I can post the system file changes for the LAN port LEDs (not switchable) and the code for my three switches to turn the red, green and yellow LEDs on and off as required. The blue radio status LED cannot be disabled afaik.
@mystic iron
Add this to the end of /mnt/boot/config.txt via the serial console to disable the LAN port LEDs (not switchable). Effective after a host reboot (maybe a powercycle might be needed - not 100% sure)
# Turn off Ethernet ACT LED
dtparam=eth_led0=4
# Turn off Ethernet LNK LED
dtparam=eth_led1=4
Switches are in the next message.
@wary pivot I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Automation to turn off the LEDs on HA start:
alias: "Home Assistant: Turn off LEDs"
description: ""
trigger:
- platform: homeassistant
event: start
action:
- service: switch.turn_off
data: {}
target:
entity_id:
- switch.power_led
- switch.activity_led
- switch.heartbeat_led
mode: single
If you prefer to turn the red, yellow and green LEDs off permanently (like the LAN port ones) and choose not to go the switch route, add the following to the end of /mnt/boot/config.txt via the serial console and reboot the host. But you should only use either the switch method or this one.
# Turn off Activity LED
dtparam=act_led_trigger=none
dtparam=act_led_activelow=off
# Turn off PWR LED
dtparam=pwr_led_trigger=none
dtparam=pwr_led_activelow=off
# Turn off User LED (Heartbeat)
dtparam=usr_led_trigger=none
dtparam=usr_led_activelow=off
This should be pinned
Fully assembled HA Yellow including CM4, power supply, USB cable and 256GB nvre arrived yesterday. I ordered in on Wed, Mar 30, 2022. Powered it up and added a few "integrations". It was all VERY easy. After all the waiting 🙂 Only issue is I have a Phillips Hue (zigbee bridge) and HA cannot access it . I could just set all the zigbee devices to pair and access them directly but that means placing the HA yellow physically closer to them
Or wait for what I think is already a reported bug
Can anyone explain how I can access the config.txt on Yellow?
The easiest way is the serial console. Connect your running Yellow via the USB-C port to your computer and use a terminal program, login as root and edit /mnt/boot/config.txt with Vi.
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-windows/
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/use-serial-console-linux-macos/
Another way would be to enable the OS SSH debugging via SSH Port 22222 and editing the file that way.
https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/operating-system/debugging/
Or you go crazy and use the USB-C recovery mode and rpiboot. 🤣
But using one of the ways above should be sufficient.
Just in case for those who aren't familiar with the editor Vi... A little cheat sheet of the University at Albany:
https://www.atmos.albany.edu/daes/atmclasses/atm350/vi_cheat_sheet.pdf
may be i am googling wrong, but how can i reuse an installed ssd, if i factory reset the system. It installed HA new correctly, but when i want to move the datapartition it says:
"Kein geeigneter Speicher gefunden" - no suitable storage found
The best way is to remove every existing partition on the SSD (make sure it is an NVMe and not a m.2 SATA one).
Either using a m.2 to USB adapter with your computer or connecting to the serial console and use Linux CLI formatting commands.
ok, thought i could do it within the running instance
It needs to be done on the OS level.
It can either be the serial console or the OS debug SSH.
ty
After trying to follow the setup instructions, I have yet to see the yellow LED light up, so I tried option 1 to hold the red and blue buttons during power-on to no avail, and now I've tried option 2, and it's half an hour in and rpiboot is still at Waiting for BCM2835/6/7/2711... Am I missing something? Is it relevant that this CM4 is a variant without eMMC? https://yellow.home-assistant.io/guides/reinstall-os/
For deconz config which device is the correct one for the controller in ha yellow?
I used a conbee stick but want to use the controller in yellow now
None. Deconz is for Conbee/Raspbee devices only. The Yellow has a Silicon Labs radio.
Oh gotcha ty
What's that useful for?
fwiw the yellow zigbee radio is /dev/ttyAMA1 and you would use it with the ZHA integration, or zigbee2mqtt if you don't mind it being experimental
Has anyone received a notification for the shipping of their yellow? Mine (PoE version) was supposed to be shipped on the 3rd, then on the 7th, but no luck so far...
Lol I didn’t want to be the first to ask. No updates yet
Just got my little Home Assistant Yellow today :)
my yellow arrived.
poe powered right up and booted right up, had everything waiting for it. imaged an nvme nailed it first time.
I got the zooz daughter board for it. zwave 800 chipset.
Sounds like you went the same route as me. I’m dying for that shipping notification lol
yeah, got notification on friday.
inmaged an ssd and setup the cm4 to boot from ssd in my other board.
I’m tempted to image the SSD too, but I don’t have a usb adapter.. so I’d have to temporarily install the drive in my PC, and that seems overkill
got one off amazon for like 10 bucks.
so I can't seem to get the admin login working.
wonder if it needs a reboot to start sshd on the host
hmmm not seeing the usb mounted
ok, it's definately not seeing the usb ports.
[core-ssh ~]$ ```
mine was supposed to be shipped on jan 27, then feb 10, then march 3rd, it actually shipped on the 3rd, got it today.
Maybe you should start fresh and install the documented way
