What AC is it?
I have two life360 trackers in a group. Is there a reason why when one person is "away", the group is also "away"? I don't have "all" set as true or false. Shouldn't the default be "home" as long as one person is "home"?
anyone else find the ios companion app glitchy since 110?
#ios_and_mac-archived would be the place to ask @lyric flare 😉
@hot dew have you set the all option or not? That will define the behaviour
What AC is it?
@fringe moon Pitsos. Belongs to Bosch Siemens. I have some pictures of the PCB
Interesting, I have a Samsung with an optional WiFi, just wanted to know if it was that
Any idea how to use an ESP8266 to replace it? I have I think 4 of those A/Cs here 😉
Or how to reverse engineer it?
Another idee is to use the usual IR thing with tasmota
No idea, would have to see how it is attached etc, I use IR with a broadlink and smartir for my dumb AC, to build something the guys over at #diy-archived might know more
Ok, will annoy them :D
I found some github project for Hisense but yeah, not Pitsos 😉
homeassistant.exceptions.HomeAssistantError: Entity id already exists: binary_sensor.switch_location_hallway. Platform xiaomi_aqara does not generate unique IDs
Any idea how I can fix this?
@fringe moon "all" isn't currently set but setting it to true or false doesn't seem to help.
Hi Guys .. I have a Sonoff TH16 with a DS18B20 sensor setup using eWeLink, but I can not find it in HA .. is there something I have to do special for HA to find it?
did you set up the sonoff integration?
No, I have tried to search for the integration in Supervisor, but no luck .. figured that it was buildin in the new HA
Also, integrations won't be found in the Supervisor
Yes, but did not find anything usefull .. but let me try again 😉
I've a tasmota device with power monitoring. On the tasmota interface it updates very fast but in HA it does not. The sensor is still at 51 watts but that changed to 0 like 2 minutes ago on the tasmota interface. Does someone know what's going wrong? I wan't very fast updates so I can detect my tv is on and so change sources and stuff.
teleperiod
is that an option in the console?
the manul will tell you https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Home-Assistant/#power-monitoring
thx!
Question .. Do I need to flash my Sonoff TH16 with DS18B20 with Tasmota to show temperature in HA even when I have the SonOff integration installed from AlexxIT?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'd go tasmota or esphome over any other integrations tbh
I have a rpi zero that is connected to a rpi cam with MotionEye installed. Does anyone know how I can trigger a snapshot when the door opens?
Any idea why since .109 locks show up as two devices in HomeKit?

Good evening/day/morning..
If I want to display a attribute on device as a sensor, e.g. I have a switch that is pulling power usage data.
How would I go about creating a sensor of that data.
power 6330.98
current 27.81
voltage 227.95
Template sensor - https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/template
Hey good afternoon! have anyona had success flashing the following with tasmota?https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083LJZGFK/?coliid=I1P9F0QPXV84P5&colid=1033RZ2LTFOYQ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Anybody have a Nortek Linear GD00Z-4 garage door opener? I've successfully paired it but all it seems to have available is a binary sensor.
Might want to ask in #zwave-archived about Z-Wave devices @keen ingot
anyone using a Symfony Hub? My hub always goes to unavailable and comes back to "off" (which is the state i want) for 1-2 hours during the night for whatever reason.. but most of the time i cant use it, unless i unplug the hub, plug it back in and then it works again for some hours.. It always works with the harmony app, so it cant be a problem with the hub
i tried the latest stable version and also the beta
i already bought a smart powerplug to "reboot" the harmony hub once it becomes unavailable in homeassistant, but thats not the right way
include: entities: - sensor.smart_plug_bed_amps - sensor.smart_plug_bed_watts - sensor.smart_plug_bed_total_kwh - sensor.smart_plug_bed_volts - sensor.smart_plug_bed_today_kwh - sensor.smart_plug_bed_watts
any way of passing everything from smart_plug_bed to influxdb rather than specifying everything manually?
there's switch.smart_plug_bed but that doesn't seem to pull anything through
I'm not aware of any way to glob entities for that purpose. Also, since you're asking about the integration and it's nothing to do with devices, #integrations-archived is a safer bet for help 😉
haha, sorry. it was a 50/50 toss-up between here and integrations
Just got a WyzeSense starter kit. I already have a Wyze Cam Pan, and I’d rather not use the last USB port on my Synology NAS yet. The instructions for integrating the Wyze Sense sensors is a bit ambiguous— can it work with the bridge attached to the cam, or does it have to be attached to the HA host device?

What do you mean? What are you trying to do?
The current_temperature is set by my AC plug-in but it is not working well. False data is provided. My Xiaomi sensor is giving the correct value so the idea was simple: if Xiaomi has a new temp than update the current_temperature 🙂
Short answer, no. Long answer, https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/generic_thermostat/ would allow you to do that, but it'll be ugly
Hmmmm that’s not the answer I was hoping for 😦 but hey, no is an answer already 😃
Any idea how to use an ESP8266 to replace it? I have I think 4 of those A/Cs here 😉
@rare hollow did you check esphome - meanwhile almost of all my DIY stuff is base on esphome
Not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask. I'm having some difficulty finding good sources because of the name. I'm working on a friend's setup and he's got some TCP Connected or "Connected by TCP" bulbs that are paperweights because of the company shutting down the API. I've been able to find some stuff that works with them outside of HA, but wondering if anyone here is familiar with them and whether there's some good documentation on making them discoverable by HA, either through firmware flash or really any method?
@midnight jolt probably tuya based, try tuya convert
I'll look into that, thank you!
Looks like this brand uses 6LowPAN, which I've never heard of, but seems to be similar to zigbee and requires a gateway. Don't think I'll be making these work.
Hi, I have 'Slide' curtains. However, they show up as blinds in Google Home. I would like to let them appear as curtains instead of blinds. The device_class is set to cover --> curtain already. Can I fix this?
hm, Im thinking between lg and sony bravia tv's
it seems to me that lg(webOS) has such plenty functionalities
and bravia doesnt seem to have it such variarty?
I mean lg > sony when it comes to richhiness of integration
I have several X10 switches which I can control using mochad from the Overview page as a switch. I am trying to write an automation for one of the switches but I need a device id for that and it looks like it does not have one. Can I assign a device id? How would I do that?
Hey everyone hope all are well! Im trying to add my lutro casetta switches to HA but cannot understand the doc: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lutron_caseta/
is there a way to change a switch into a light without restarting HA? or at least make a switch also visible as a light?
Not without a restart though
how about without editing a yaml file then? is there a ui way to do this? because if I later rename the entity_id in the ui this would stop working
wonder if this is something that could be done via appdaemon
Nope (to the first one)
I have the same problem with light groups.. hope eventually all that moves to the ui
I mean, how often are you changing entity IDs?
not often, but when I do I'm unlikely to remember that I also need to edit the config file
Ah gotcha
would be nice if changing something in one place would propagate that change everywhere else that's linked. don't know what the plans for the future are for that sort of thing
@rare hollow did you check esphome - meanwhile almost of all my DIY stuff is base on esphome
@undone mulch Nope, only tasmota + HA so far. But a device for Haier A/C (I think) was based on ESPHome, too... So maybe I really need to check it out. Need to read about ESPHome a bit I think... 😉
Hi I wanted to ask a question. I have smart shades that are on this vertilux WiFi hub. Any way to integrate in HA?
Hi, I have 'Slide' curtains. However, they show up as blinds in Google Home. I would like to let them appear as curtains instead of blinds. The device_class is set to cover --> curtain already. Can I fix this?
anyone know how to fix broadlink issue when upgrade Home assistant 0.110
"Hi,my google cast speaker and chromecast no longer recognised by HA, I've done restarts, cache clearing etc, how can I bring them back, I get this when i try to add in integrations : "äborted, no google cast devices found in network"
Broadlink issue should be fixed in the next update I believe
There is already a fix, just not released yet
Assuming your talking about the storage issue?
hello, not sure if this is the right channel but here goes: I have a 'dumb' central fan that I want to make smart. It operates on 50v so a sonoff or shelly wont work because they require at least 110v input. Any suggestions on how I can make a smart switch of this?
What is everyone using for blind motor/control?
@cunning cypress i use fibaro Zwave for blind, i really like the fact that i can ask for any % with auto calibration
does anyone have Nanoleaf connectivity issue ?
it reply 1 time out of 10, i can't ping it reliably ... and that on the same network.
I juste did a hard reset to see if it help ... it didn't
@humble lion Thank you. How do they work? / attach? I had been looking at soma/brunt. Etc.
oh, sorry your looking to motorise blind that arent ... i though you where looking to contole motorized blind :(
the fibaro are good for this because it can control both high and incline (for Venetian blind ), but it's juste a module with you connect to the motor wire...
Question .. Do I need to flash my Sonoff TH16 with DS18B20 with Tasmota to show temperature in HA even when I have the SonOff integration installed from AlexxIT?
@soft lion Sonoff TH with sensors supported
https://github.com/AlexxIT/SonoffLAN/issues/110
the man himself! how's the camera support these days?
PTZ supported. Now working on something else
Someone please help this guy. I don't know what he wants from me :)
https://github.com/AlexxIT/SonoffLAN/issues/114
They want you to read their mind 🤔
I don't even understand what they're asking for to begin with but maybe that's because I'm not familiar with the integration
Hey, i'm thinking of switching from hue bulb to the ikea one, but reading up on it it seems as if it only supports 3 color temperatures. Is that correct or can you set it to any value as you can with hue?
cool, thanks
i was assuming that but it is nice to have it confirmed
You can find his config lurking in the darkness.
anyone gotten wanscam camera working with h-a?
Assuming you've searched the post history, I'd ask in #cameras-archived
I don’t suppose anyone has done anything with decoding the ThermoWorks Smoke X wireless protocol to pull it into HA? It’s 915MHz but I bet it’s not just ASK like the last thing I looked into!
Hello, someone could help me with a sonoff mini flashed with tasmota? It can't connect to mosquitto..
Guys i got a step up convertor for one of my device, is it ok to leave it on 24/7?
@fiery rain do you have others connected?
@bold roost it is hard to say without knowing the ratings and the load your device is putting on it - I always oversize my step up by a factor of two and monitor the temp of them when running
@clear plover thanks for the reply. It was my first attempt to integrate something to home assistant besides my router that automatically showed up in the upnp
@fiery rain can you see if the mqtt server is up and running howhave you set it up is it part of hass.io or stand alone?
I was able to connect it later. My laptop with ubuntu running hassio in virtual box was connected in a secondary router. I switched it to my main router and it connected instantly. But now I can't make it work with Homekit module. It tries to pair and then it fails
thanks for the help anyway @clear plover . Do you know where I could get help for the HomeKit module integration?
@fiery rain sound like you have either firewall setting stopping traffic from jumping across networks or there is no physical link, I have never used homekit as made a decision to be tasmota only
before I paired any devices, I could add the homekit bridge to my iphone home app
but now it wont add. It tries to pair and in the end, it fails.
how do you integrate with ios without homekit?
@fiery rain sorry I have no experience of homekit maybe DrZzs may be able to help
or his server on here
no problem! I tried getting help there too. Not much success.. But I will keep trying
time of day makes a big difference I am in UK and find responce can be sparse however if I go online US evening get far more help
quick question. How to you control your tasmota devices with a iphone, for exemple? Without needing to go to the main page for home assistant or the ip page for the device
time of day makes a big difference I am in UK and find responce can be sparse however if I go online US evening get far more help
@clear plover makes sense.. I live in brazil, but I will try again later
I use automations which control them so for example outside lights come on if I am heading back to home and it is dark and then they turn off after 30 mins of being home - you can also use actionable notifications but not got that sorted yet as I have been of net for a few months as my father was terminally ill but have more free time now. Digiblur and DrZzs have a good video on how to set them up.
@clear plover so i got this 1000w rice cooker. My step up converter is 2000w
Now the rice cooker is a smart ricecooker hence why its 24/7 on lol
It doesn't cook all the time
Im just wondering if its safe to leave power on when its idling
@bold roost if you run that while around and all stays cool you should be good for 24/7 just make sure it does not overheat as some Chinese units over egg their capability
Thanks ill put a smart switch just in case
when in stand by it should be good as no current flowing or minimal
Wonder how it impact my electricity bill
I would as why waist even a small amount of energy when its not being used
I dont have anything to measure
sounds like all should be good

got it. Yeah.. I want to control lights without a specific time, so I think I will need the HomeKit. I will keep looking! Thanks for the help
welcomw and good luck
I'd ask in #integrations-archived @unreal berry - and provide the output of a command line config check
Always run the configuration check command when you make changes. Don't trust the UI check - it misses some problems.
Thanks @winged knoll
Anyone know of a Zigbee motion detector that can use line voltage? EU purchase if possible. I can always use the many battery-powered versions out there but I'd rather not have to change batteries if I don't need to. I found a Z-wave line voltage motion detector but my Google-Fu is failing me at the moment on Zigbee. I could just make a small power supply for one and wire it to the battery terminals.
I'd ask in #zigbee-archived
BUt it's a device question! 😉 OK, good point.
It is, but there's a more specific channel so you'll have more luck there 😉
Not sure if you're on the Facebook HA group but I gave you props in my garage controller post
I'm old, and I have old friends 😄
Are you suggesting that only old people use Facebook? I thought I was still young 😦

@teal glade That's a decent writeup. Have you considering putting it up on something like hackaday.io for more people to find? I only ask because Facebook's algorithms make it really hard to find anything, whereas those sites are easy to search and will appear in Google results 🙂
Are you suggesting that only old people use Facebook? I thought I was still young 😦
@gritty zinc I totally am! 😄 Kids these days wouldn't use it, there are cooler platforms that their grandparents aren't using to share pictures of their gardening.
I have never had facebook thankfully 🤣
34 here and still using it. Even if the 'good old days' of it being an invite-only networking tool were better than the stupid memes and spam that dominate it now.
As for hackaday.io. I've never heard of it until now. I didn't think it was so special as I mostly followed two YouTube videos and then asked Tinkerer 3000 questions.
You youngster!
I don't think I see many gardens though. Mostly what people ate for breakfast... 😐
hackaday is great. It's one of those sites you'll come across when you Google obscure projects. People do write-ups of exactly the kind of stuff you just did, Bigfork.
Maybe your stuff is fairly specific to certain equipment, maybe it's not. Either way, it could help people figure out their problems or inspire them to create something.
GitHub can be okay for pages but it's not where I'd go for a tutorial. Your call though.
Entirely up to you whether you want to put any more effort into sharing or not, you're not obliged 😄
Well, the write up is about done. I think to be complete I should add the config and Lovelace YAML. I'll check out hackaday, looks like a fun place to get some mroe ideas myself.
The funny part is that my garage isn't even here yet. It gets delivered in a month or so. I know what garage door opener is coming so I looked up the user manual for that and figured out what I needed. Watch them deliver something totally different! 😄
I need to remake my garage controller
It is currently just wires connected to a buck and ESP and relay and sensors, I should get it on a protoboard 🤣
Sounds finished to me! 😄
yeah, especially with that 230-5v buck 🤣
I don't see the problem. Just don't touch it with wet hands.
Noted! uses wet feet
I had an Electrical Engineering professor (who taught the class for the Mechanical Engineers, dumbed down a bit I suppose). He said, "if you're ever dumb enough to check line voltage by licking your fingers and touching the wires, at least use two fingers on the same hand!"
I had a teacher in analogue electronics 20 years ago who was one of the countries best in his field, he still made us lick our fingers and sit with a variac and test how far we could go (on one hand) 🤣
And going back to the age comments earlier, my only formal training in a programming language was Fortran-77. The "77" is significant 😄
Hey, I'm turning 36 in little over a week, my wife says I'm closer to 90 though
To be fair, Fortran-90 was out by that point but my school hadn't bothered to upgrade. Thanks for the "OK Boomer" 😄 🤣
I'm not judging, my desk in engineering school had a floppy copy of Turbo-Pascal in it
I have a 386 vacuum packed. one day I am going to sell it as antic! bids anyone?
still had that 8086 with me sometime back. think its still back in india rotting in dust! still remember that register programming
I definitely feel young now 😄
well, you are a whole 1 year younger than me atleast 🤣

Hello, Not sure if this is the channel for this question. I just found out my place has 2-wire electrical system. Replacing the whole system is on my list to do but its pretty expensive. Can I use smart plugs and switches with a 2-wire.
Switches/dimmers yes - if they're designed for two wire setups
how about outlets ?
No idea, that'll depend in part on where in the world you are I suspect 🤷
I'd be surprised though
Two wire devices normally leave a small amount of current flowing, so they're still "on"
Having an issue trying to get a smoke/co detector to show up in homekit, it shows up fine in HA but for some reason its not making it over to HomeKit. Everything else i add in HA shows up fine. Any ideas ? its a First Alert Smoke Co Combo, Zwave.
@winged knoll yeah I will have to see. Thank you again for everything.
My outlets recently lost connection with IFTTT thru smart life, so I tried the Brilliant app workaround, but they still don’t show up in IFTTT, any ideas?
Tuya or whatever pulled IFTTT support I think (even tho my light strip and outdoor dimmer outlet still work with smart life), and I found a workaround by setting them up with the Brilliant app instead, but they still don’t show up in IFTTT
no ideas on the zwave smoke into homekit via HA ?
interesting , ill give that a try
Had to resort to using Alexa routines to make my outlets work even tho I don’t own one lol
Has anyone already worked with MQTT Cover and the automatic discovery?
I have there a problem. Anybody know how to fix it?

I have an esp8266 which controls relay board(8 relays) connected through ds2408(1-wire i/o extender), every 5 seconds the device sends the state_topic, but I have noticed that sometimes when automated script sent the command to switch relay and by network issue the command was not received by device, and in the next 5 seconds the device will send a new state which will have an old status, thus the automated command was not applied. This is very rare case but unfortunately it happens.. Could you please advise how to avoid such situations ?
Does anyone know how to completely reset a conbee 2 (deconz addon). If I uninstall it, then reinstall it, all my old groups are still there.

Hi guys. Loving Home Assistant. I'm using Siri to control my heat pump air conditioner - when I ask it to 'Heat the room to 23º" it puts the AC on 'Auto' mode - it's currently winter here and I want it to only heat, not to cool when it goes over the set point. Is there a way to do that?
well bugger, searching back and it seems a few others have had issues with Google cast (Mini's, in my case) going Unavailable... can't seem to find a solution though?
deleted the integration and now it won't find any of the devices. mDNS is on.
@gentle fulcrum How did you install HA? I know many folks using #330944238910963714 have had issues if they're using a VM 🤷
Yeah, supervised on ubuntu.
Hadn't noticed it wasn't working until today though (finally got weber igrill MQTT working and wanted TTS meat temps!) so not sure how long it's been cactus for. Spotify ios app working fine which is all we use generally.
might restore a snapshot tomorrow - ive got low n slow beef brisket cooking and don't want to lose the temps today lol

I'd ask on their discord ☝️
What is peoples verdicts on RF solutions? I have a fan that I want to use... only requirement is google home
Depends on what you mean by RF
Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, WiFi, those are all RF 😉
If you mean the uni-directional stuff that uses 433 MHz (typically)... 👎
The only RF solution I have, and will likely ever have, is a monitor for a cheap RF doorbell.
433MHz RF = bad
It has a remote, and I just am assuming its RF as I don't know anything on the subject
Maybe even IR. Looks like the plastic moulding on the front would lend itself well to conceal an IR receiver.
For a device where the remote is intended to be used in the same room, I'd wager IR over RF.
ahh gotcha, It does need to be pointed for it to work so definitly IR
power on and off won't turn on to previous state either so can't utiize that 😛
how do IR hubs work, do they need to be in direct line of site I assume
As you've just pointed out, the receiver needs to be able to 'see' the remote. 😉
Position it somewhere in the room where it's got clear line of sight to all devices it'll interact with.
do IR devices have to be compatible with the hub or is everything compatible?
Alternatively, some clever use of mirrors will deal with corners 😉
I've never worked with them but I believe they follow the same principle as 433MHz RF devices. The remote will be pre-programmed with a bunch of codes, and the receiver can understand those codes. If you're going to use a hub, it needs to be one that can be 'taught' those codes.
from my bried research most reccomend Broadlink devices?
I've seen them mentioned a ton, so that's probably a safe bet. I think there's a native HA integration for them too.
Neat. That command does what I thought it does 😄
Thanks, Been thinking of buying this sort of device for curiosity anyway 🙂
amazon return it if it don't work
Hi 😉
Someone would have implemented a mailbox sensor ?
I'm looking for a sensor which send a notification to HA when a mail is posted in the box
but the problem is the distance
There is around 50m, with obstacles
@heady swan If you want to go into over-engineering mode, this is a great thread... https://discourse.superhouse.tv/t/a-new-item-to-automate-the-mailbox/245/36 😋 A long range 433MHz "door switch" is the simple solution. Something like https://www.paradox.com/Products/default.asp?CATID=4&SUBCATID=47 You can get hundreds of meters with a long range module like this... https://www.seeedstudio.com/2KM-Long-Range-RF-link-kits-with-encoder-and-decoder-p-321.html
Hopefully this is a right place to ask. I'm looking to replace my xiaomi/aqara gateway because it works pretty poorly with hass ime. What's a simple to use device I could replace it with ? mostly want to use it with some xiaomi sensors and ikea power plugs
what is simple for you?
not having to solder, 3D print something, etc
something I could just use with homeassistant
@analog niche Thanks ! But... is it easy to integrate on HA ? (i'm a newbee 😆)
@drifting grove i guess deconz ConBee2 stick or HUBZB1
thanks i'll look those up
thanks
with something like that I can use the xiaomi sensors and stuff like ikea plugs right ?
mroe or less... xiaomi is not exactly 100% reliable in all zigbee networks
Whats everyones thoughts on SD Cards? Ive just ordered a Sandisk Micro SD upon realising none of my cards are actually "A2" Spec. I take it thats what could be causing some delays pushing commands to devices?
ok, for now I only have one sensor so maybe I should go look elsewhere entirely and give up on their stuff
possibly, i personally have quite a few of them and everything is working fine with a v2 gateway for over 2 years
it worked great for months, but now HA just loses the gateway all the time
but if you're just starting you should look for zigbee 3.0 gear which should technically be more compatible and easier to use
sometimes the xiaomi app doesn't even see the gateway, somtimes it does, I can't make any sense of it
k thanks
probably networking issue
I use a ubiquiti AP and it's like 3m from the gateway :/
doesnt mean there's no issues
what kind of issue could it be ?
neighbors are all super far away, can't even see their networks
not a signal quality issue, a networking issue, netowrking has many layers
the wifi is working great, it's just the xiaomi gateway that is driving me insane :p
did you assign a fixed ip to your gateway?
yes I have the mac and fixed ip set in HA config
thats not at all what i asked
that should cover most of usual problems
for more debuggin you need to follow networking logs to see what happens when it drops from HA
I don't suppose anyone know's what the names are for the HDMI sources on android tv?
I can call media_player.select_source with 'Plex' or 'Netflix', but I can't seem to work out how to select HDMI1 etc.
@drifting grove time to move to something else it seems
I can say my Xiaomi stuff works nicely on zigbee2mqtt
I'm trying to change my door sensor icon to be a closed door when the sensor is off and an open door icon when the sensor is tripped. Every time I add customize to my configuration.yaml I get an invalid config that the component customize cannot be found
Is there a way of finding out which device/service this refers to: homeassistant.components.websocket_api.http.connection.140580048669008
yeah I think so too @fringe moon , also I'd rather use a gateway/stick that wasn't made by a huge chinese corp anyway, so if it doesn't even work anymore I might as well change
Here's a weird one. I cannot for the life of me get bluetooth to work in a VM. It full-stop refuses to recognize either of the USB BT modules I install. They pass into VirtualBox just fine, but hassio won't show them in devices, despite console recognizing them by name.
My issue is communicating with the limited BLE switch solutions I have (Switchmate). When run on an rpi, bluetooth just works correctly.
In the past, I've used an rpi zero with a separate instance and a custom component called remote_homeassistant -- is that still probably the best way to go about it? The switches DO get imported into my hassio install, but if there's a known-good way to get Bluetooth in a VM I'm not aware of, I'm all ears.
Virtualbox is a horrible hypervisor and usb passthrough is magic at best in most hypervisors @rich burrow
It's worked "okay" for most of the time I've had it. I just recently retired my z-stick in favor of SmartThings v3 (I know, I know, but it's SUCH a solid z-wave hub), and had few issues with communication.
It does passthrough and the filters work like they're supposed to. Like I said, hassio does recognize in console that they're USB BT modules. I just get no interface with them.
If remote_homeassistant is still the kind of "preferred' method to close this loophole, I'm okay with it for now. It's just slightly fiddly and requires me to babysit it, as HA on a PiZW is a terrible experience, all things considered and all deference to the devs who made it possible.
Is there any reason you can't use something like an esp32 with esphome to communicate with the ble device ? Then get that into ha?
I did think of that, but I'm not familiar enough with the commands the switches are looking for, and switchmate.py already works in homeassistant without much issue, provided again there's an interface.
My thought is, why re-invent the wheel, when an esp32 and esphome may require just as much space and power as a pizerow to get the same effect?
The kicker is the smartthings v3 hub has a disabled bluetooth radio on board.
Good afternoon. I am moving my devices to home assistant. I was using wink, went to smartthings last week - had an network outage where they sugested I reset my hub and start over, and now using HA
I have the norton go controler usb zigbee/zwave stick and it is working pretty well.
If I do snapshots and back up my files, will it restore the devices my stick is decting?
Hrm, strange. I'm reading that a remotec zrc-90 is uspported out of box in HA, but when i add mine, it just shows up as unknown device
Hello all. I have a device that is bluetooth only and I can connect it to my iphone for control of it. I would like to connect it to Hassio and control it from there. Would someone be kind enough to point me it a direction to start working on this please? ESP32 or some other type of device to get it into HA? Thanks for your help.
i think the forums may be better place to ask questions
I am after some help with a foscam IP camera. I had it working under lovelace so that clicking on the live camera feed would open a larger viewing window. I have since tried successfully using a picture elements card that supports panning and tilting. Can I have both? If not can I have two elements on lovelace, one with the ability to pan and tilt the camera and another where clicking on the live camera image pops open a larger image?
At them moment i have 'more-info' set on the picture as the tap command, and this opens a window for the foscam camera that has a 'preload stream' option unticked and a viewing window (very small) and it sits with the looping indicator showing it is trying to load something but never shows any video
Anyone suggest a device that will flash. something small would be great
A lightbulb?
Honestly anything. i know i could do a light bulb but i would just be replacing a smart light that doesn't have flash for one that does.
The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution rather than your actual problem. This leads to enormous amounts of wasted time and energy, both on the part of people asking for help, and on the part of those providing help.
The problem occurs when people get stuck on what they believe is the solution and are unable to step back and explain the issue in full.
What is your goal here?
I want to be able to setup a automation that alerts me when my garage door is opening
Ah, you're looking for a light effect embedded in the light...
Not sure then, the only things I know of that support that are things like the Yeelight range, and WLED
WLED is for digital strips, and Yeelight do analogue strips (amongst other things)
If you've got Google Home/Alexa/Sonos/etc then TTS (voice notifications) is easy enough
A smart LED strip can be hidden from direct view too, it just needs power. If you're using WLED then you can make it any size you want
The alexa i did think about but if i have my headphones on I wanted something visual. I might look into the Wled
https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED/ and they have their own Discord too
Yeah i just googled and they were the first to show up
amazfit gtr watch, 60 days battery life for me, I get notifications, vibrates ;D
Hello everyone,
I am currently tryinig to find a cheap solution to monitor the temperature in my living room.
Since I have an Android TV box in this room, I was thinking about plugging a USB thermostat in it.
Yet, I have no clue if this could work. What are your thoughts?
Are there some specific models or brands you would recommend or advise to stay away from?
Why not just go with Zigbee and a Xiaomi Aqara temperature sensor?
I am not familiar at all with Zigbee. To be honest, I am very very new to domotics in general.
I would prefer to have something that does not require any cloud connection but I am unsure whether Zigbee would fulfill this wish.
#zigbee-archived (see the channel) is purely local
Add a USB stick, and away you go
That sounds awesome thank you very much
It also means you're not sticking the sensor right by a source of heat 😉
Yes of course I would need the sensor to be away from any computer/radiator/fridge etc. in the room!
I am going to try and learn a bit more about Zigbee and will definitely go and ask questions in the dedicated channel, thank you people!
There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:
deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI. It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on for Hass.io, in a Docker container, and natively, with no native UI. It uses MQTT for control and configuration, but there are third party UIs. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.
is there a way to hide devices/entities so that lists are not so overwhelming? Is only a problem where you discover things rather than configure them, I just assume there will be more of this in the future vs the hand Yaml.
where are the three dots? I've discovered things can have a hidden tag. Just not finding where I can do that in the UI.
what are people using to set up Bluetooth beacons?
Scan for beacons with HA, scan for beacons with their phone, or the actual beacons?
Chipolo beacons are cheap and work
though I guess I’m also interested in whether people have been successful running monitor.sh with a less powerful thing than a Pi Zero W, like some ESP board
I’ll look into that, thanks!
Well, monitor requires a bunch of things that may not exist on ESP... if you can run Linux with mosquitto though
yeah, I guess it would be a port rather than really running monitor.sh
Hello there, somebody knows what entity and what value mean the "alarm" state on Fibaro CO Sensor (Zwave)? I would like to use it a automation. https://i.imgur.com/DA4MRzg.png
@winged knoll my alarm type is "0" but the documentation say the corect value is "2"
See #zwave-archived
hi there anyone using WLED's ?
I take it when someone says yes, there'll be a follow-up question. Can we skip ahead to that part?
🙂 i was looking for a way to set the preset from node red, but just found the wled doc in HA that that option is not available
so i just looked beyond my nose and found out a http command is also available in WLED, so just giving a http command from node red, bypassing HA
Yeah, from the little I've experimented with WLED, the HTTP commands seem way easier to work with.
You get to set effects/speeds/colours/etc all in a single command.
yep tried a wled palette in nodeRed, but thats outdated and buggy
Oh... and if you're interested, the MQTT interface is basically just another way to send the HTTP commands. So if you have other things communicating via MQTT, that's another nice way to feed commands to it.
yeah i have some sonoff & shelly's through MQTT, but this seems a bit easier to setup then mqtt, and wled docs say: "The MQTT implementation is currently being restructured to provide a better experience for users of Home Assistant and other automation software. "
I saw that. I took that as a warning that future updates may introduce breaking changes. I'm happy to keep the version I have installed already.
at least the stupid 'running 'red light under the dishwasher is gone and replaced by a shimmering blue WLED strip:)
Oh, nice idea!
I'd put an LED strip under the dishwasher but I don't think it'd stay attached to her feet long...
Works great with Phillips hue app, although home assistant color picker does not work, it can only do on/off, color picker don't do anything
If they're 5050, shouldn't that mean you can throw away the controller and attach an ESP instead?
I bought it for the controller lol
😮
I ain't into flashing
Get atxbyea to do it for you. I think his life mission is to get as many ESP's into projects as possible 😄
Don't you need a rasberry pi to do that?
To flash an ESP? Nah. I got a cheap (£3) USB to serial adapter and some jumper cables, and flashed mine from my PC.
Some don't even need the adapter stuff if they have onboard USB connections.
Jumper cable = connector cable. Usually not intended for permanent things where you're going to solder.
Sell em predone on ebay 😛
The ESPs? The thing is, they're versatile. Everyone wants to do something different with them.
Like... you could wire one up inside your coffee machine to make it smart. I just do flashy LEDs.
Anybody know of a water/leak sensor that has a "sensor cord" similar to the Eve or Flo sensors (but actually usable via zwave/zigbee/etc and not locked to BLE or Wifi operation?)
hive maybe
any suggestions for a good weight scale that is easy to integrate into HA (local control preferable)? thanks!
what is the end goal @pearl ruin ?
120lb
@tidal grotto - end goal is to record people's weight on a daily basis and track it over time
@pearl ruin I have done it with a Xiaomi Miscale and openmqttgateway running on ESP32. I use intervals defined in home assistant to differentiate between different family members
Influxdb is handy for graphs over the long term
I use a time window to discard measurements taken at the “wrong” times
Total cost less than 30 euros I think
Cool I didn't even think about integrating my scale stuff.
Looks like there's an existing Withings integration
anyone had any luck setting up : https://www.amazon.com/Aqara-REQUIRES-Automation-Compatible-Assistant/dp/B081ZQWX1F?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
also, can you use HA with two zigbee adapters?
Not zha, but two deCONZ probably, or two Zigbee2MQTT installs certainly. Or a mix and match. #zigbee-archived can help more
@pearl ruin not sure there is going to be something with HA here but xiaomi scales do this with the app, it adds the data to whoever's fine is closest so each person needs it setup on there phone and have it near them
Tinkerer - This came yesterday - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10000201621618.html
Plugged into 5M of CCT Led, and added to the Hue Bridge no issues, all controls via hue working great. Google home also controlling great, then controll via HA is not working, on/off works no problem, but changing color does not work, I then reset them and connected to Deconz again connected straight away no issues, and the on/off and colors work fine, into HA and it works fine for colors, so looks like this route does not work with the Hue HA integration.
Well, good to know they work directly with a Zigbee controller
pretty impressed for £10
will be changing the DC power they sent, so light and is using 2.7 watts when off lol
Can you tell me the diffrence in these two LED types? - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10000201716852.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.47a24c4dDcoseA and these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10000210392450.html?spm=2114.12010610.8148356.9.357113930yRVQU
Beyond what you too can read there... 🤷
One is 90 LED/m, one is 60 LED/m
That's likely the biggest difference, in actual use
More light, and smoother light
saturated?
The more LEDs you have in a given distance the smoother the light source is
ah gotcha more of the same color
Think about your strip. If you have one LED a meter you have a few point sources
if spaces the color will go dimmer with distants
If you have 144 LED/m then you have what looks like a single continuous source
gotcha 🙂
If I am searching for strips for this do I need to type RGBW CCT or just RGBW?
Depends on what you want them for 😉
RGB is fine for effects, but CCT if you want tuneable white (warm to cool)
these leds have more pins then my other leds strips so just compatible really
Color: RGBCCT Controller
The only reason you'd not buy CCT would be if you were buying a digital LED strip since those rarely have CCT
Because the controller has 6 pins I need ones that are CCT ?
does it matter what pins you plug them into?
Yes
If you plug the green LED connector into the red LED line... that's not going to give you what you expect
I'm looking for wifi relays with >=4 channels each with switch input (I'd connect each to a push button). A recommendation is appreciated!
WiFi relay with push button, don't think I've seen that
Gotta be able to hack one together with an ESP though, right?
Hello :)
I'm having issue with one sensor history...
When i try to show it (from the entity or in an history card) the web page load forever, until i get a banner asking to kill the web page...
what can i do ? purge the history ? is this a known bug that happend sometime ?
Sounds more like an #integrations-archived topic than a device...
then zwave ? because it's a zwave plug, but the issue is really in the history only
The device itself has nothing to do with HA's UI 😉
Hello, currently new to HA, and im looking to try and setup a RGB light strip. Any recommendations? I have a USB zwave/zigbee adapter but nothing like a hue hub. I purchased a set of Sylvania light strips not knowing they need a special light hub such as theirs or the phillips one
what kind of USB adapter do you have?
Nortek
you can use that with ZHA in HA and Sylvania strips should be compatible
that's what I thought buy maybe I'm not setting it up right, when I go to add a ZHA device it does not find them.
it should find something, are you following pairing instructions?
It didnt really come with any, at least not how to set them in pairing mode. They really only tell you how to connect it to their own hub
that is the pairing mode
didnt elaborate well, their instructions tell you to get to the app, however app wants a QR code from their own hub
"instructions" 😄
pretty much my thoughts. Like usually i can get this by dumb luck of pressing random buttons. No such thing this time.
luckily there is THE INTERNET: https://community.smartthings.com/t/how-to-re-pair-osram-lightify-flex-strip/78551
okay so after a bit more of a dive online, I do have it in pairing mode as it blinks a blue, red, green as I plug it in according to this
Has anyone used a sound to light module with a rib strip light? Magic Home App allows you to listen to the music and the lights react. Is this possible at all? TIA
Do you mean something like this? https://github.com/ahodges9/LedFx
Anything that can measure room temperature/humidity/air quality that doesn't need a hub? Something a bit like this would be great https://www.amazon.co.uk/Temperature-Real-Time-Historical-Thermometers-Hygrometer/dp/B07SB2C327
or a wall-mounted display that has the date/time/temp I can hook up to HA
Network or wireless, not bluetooth
Any pointers please on how to change a switch to a light as a device. These are sonoff single channel devices. I have one set up many years ago showing as a light, so when you switch it, it goes yellow in Lovelace. All other lights are 'switches' so you get no status even though MQTT is of course telling HA it is ON
anyone been able to use the Sonoff RF Bridge with HA?

@velvet sedge Did you Google this? First result for 'home assistant switch to light': https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/light.switch/

Hi all, someone expert of NodeMCU, MX-RM-5V RF Receiver and alarm systems with rolling codes?
What is the best RGB LED light that is really bright you would recommend that works out of the box with HA?
Works out of the box means WiFi, which tends to rule out "best" 😉
Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
I use teckin lights - They are made from Tuya Company (Teckin is Tuya) and they integrate with HA via Tuya integration
They are very bright with white color
with RGB, the best brightness I've ever seen

Any expert of RF receivers 433 MHz?
Just ask your question, stefano
@opaque sentinel posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KN2wbHT36x/
I've tested the RF receiver with the sensor of the central alarm: Silentron SilenyaPhone Top - Not working. I used:
- MX-RM-5v
- NodeMCU Amica 12F
I tested it with: - Remote control - Silentron 5423P
- PIR sensors of the Silentron SilenyaPhone Top
- Contact sensors of the Silentron SilenyaPhone Top
I don't receive any of those signals...
If I use another NodeMCU with XY-FST sender, I can send codes, and the receiver can read them properly.
What is wrong? The sensors and the alarm system is working with 433 Mhz... maybe a different modulation?
I also tested it with the remote control that I have for the automatic gate, but I cannot read the code transmitted 😦
I recently upgraded and I think I may have this problem due to that upgrade:
2020-05-28 15:02:03 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.media_player] The samsungtv platform for the media_player integration does not support platform setup. Please remove it from your config.
Can someone tell me if media_player no longer allows 'platform: samsungtv'
it does not
Anyone added a Zooz power strip? According to Zooz, I should have Zwave control over all 5 outlets individually. After adding it, I only have 1 device listed as a switch and it shuts all 5 off.
#zwave-archived @safe shore
Thank you. Wasn't sure if it was better in devices or there.
binary_sensor: - platform: mqtt name: "door sensor" state_topic: "RFBridge/Door1" availability_topic: "RF/tele/LWT" qos: 1 payload_on: "ON" payload_off: "OFF" device_class: door payload_available: "Online" payload_not_available: "Offline"
When I got the the entities tab in the UI I the checkmark on the left is grayed out and I says "This entity does not have a unique ID, therefore its settings, therefore its settings cannot be managed from the UI." Can someone kind enough explain to me what the issue is
There is no issue, you simply can't change the entity_id
my question is then, how do I view the door sensor status I've created?
I've created the rule in tasmota on RFreceived#data=4A93B9 do backlog publish2 RFBridge/Door1 ON; ruletimer1 5 endon on rules#timer=1 do publish2 RFbridge/Door1 OFF endon and it seems to be working on that end
Look in
-> States or
-> Entities
Do I need to create a template to be able to see it in overview?
I recently added 8 Xiaomi Window Sensors through Zigbee2mqtt and Mosquitto. I sucsessfully renamed 7 of them and they also automaticly renamed the Entitys. Just the 8th didnt. So i thought well maybe Delete it and redetect it so it will work but now the Zigbee2mqtt still sees the Sensor but i cant see it in my MQTT Broker... is there a way to "restore" Devices after deletion?
To see it in the Overview @wise oyster just add it to your #frontend-archived
Anyway to control lights from Cloud Assistant ? how or Fcmila lights
I'm guessing you've searched the forum and tried Google?
@winged knoll baba or me?
Baba
For yours, I've seen others report similar problems, I've no idea if/how they resolved it 🤷
if i would know the file where the "deleted" devices are stored you could just remove it from there
That's probably in the entity registry (.storage/core.entity_registry)
Deleted decides are in there as well? Because I could find all not deleted there but not the deleted one
thanks for the help @winged knoll
I'm running into the issue where my sensor is not turning off after the tasmota device is sending its turn off payload
are the two payloads identical?
09:15:45 RUL: RFRECEIVED#DATA=4A93B9 performs "backlog publish2 RFBridge/Door1 ON; ruletimer1 1" 09:15:45 MQT: RFBridge/Door1 = ON (retained) 09:15:45 MQT: RF/stat/RESULT = {"T1":1,"T2":0,"T3":0,"T4":0,"T5":0,"T6":0,"T7":0,"T8":0} 09:15:47 RUL: RULES#TIMER=1 performs "publish2 RFbridge/Door1 OFF" 09:15:47 MQT: RFbridge/Door1 = OFF (retained)
and what's the off payload in yaml?
payload_off: "OFF"
check state topic, they're case sensitive
Here's a silly question. One of my lamp (ikea tradfri) works correctly when i use the HA UI. But, it shows as "Not Responding" on my Google Assistant and I can't control it via voice. What would be the best way to troubleshoot this?
I've resynced my devices too
Any recommendations for a pool cleaning robot with HA integration?
Also looking for a water temp sensor
(Just moved from #the-water-cooler) is it easy to integrating a i2c 16x2 display with hassio? i am thinking of getting one to display some data from a webhook or a webrequest with node-red
Hey as read above i just installed 8 xiaomi Sensors. But they are now all showing as door icons in my home assistant. Is there a way to change the icon to a window and still keep the animation of open and closed?
broadlink mini 3 or 4c? - IR
Is there any logic in the configuration.yaml build?
This config build is showing the DSMR data and a working camera but no data from the afvalinfo plugin. When I put the dsmr_reader config above the afvalinfo plugin i don't see any DSMR data but I see the afvalinfo entities
What ever I'm trying I cannot get it work both. And I don't know know which plugin is creating the issue.
Does anyone have anyone have any good recommendations for some good door sensors that work really well with HA
The Xiaomi Aqara contact sensors get recommended often. Cheap, reliable, and integrate well.
I've tested the RF receiver with the sensor of the central alarm: Silentron SilenyaPhone Top - Not working. I used:
- MX-RM-5v
- NodeMCU Amica 12F

@opaque sentinel did you check if your receiver is matched to your devices frequency wise? 315Mhz vs. 433Mhz
If I want to ditch a 3-way light switch and replace it with a "switch" that is wifi and communicates on MQTT, what's the cheapest and highest WAF thing to do?
Sonoff (optionally flashed with Tasmota) behind the existing switch so that nothing looks different
Optionally put the Sonoff between the existing wiring and the light, so that the switches all control the Sonoff, and the Sonoff controls the light
Shelly1 can deal with an existing 3 way installation
My goal is to convert the main light switch to a single pole, and then use the other switch just to communicate to turn the light on and off from the main switch.
Since you're asking about electrics that need to integrate with existing wiring, where are you?
Country? US. My plan is to use a wink relay, which doesn't work with 3 way switches. I want to convert it to single pole, and use the other light switch as a basic automation switch.
I'm not familiar with US wiring. Do you have a neutral wire to light switches?
Yes
Then I'm with the others. Sonoff Mini or a Shelly behind the dumb switch.
That sounds like the way to go. I have Shelly devices already and am installing a dimmer and 2.5 today as well. The electrician's failed to label any of the rooms at my panel, so first step is to find and label rooms accordingly.
Anyone using tasmota auto auto discovery for a sonoff device?
Many people... but that's not the question you want help with.
is it possible to rename a device? and all of the entities under it?
I know how to rename the entities individually but hoping I can get change the device name and then automagically have its 8 entities update
I think if you rename the device (and haven't renamed any of the entities) that'll happen
it does! I was prompted if I wanted to do it
just didn't see where to rename on device page but did once you said you could
not very observant, this one
Everything is obvious in hindsight...
Can anybody recommend a good ip camera which can be used with HA and motioneye?

Does anyone use rtl_433 for data from their weather station? I only get like one or two readings then it stops finding them
Does anyone have any idea why I can't get wyzesense.scan to show up in services, both after installing it with HACS or manually?
I'm running HA in an unraid VM, and I think I have the device passed through successfully as the light has turned blue.
Has anyone found a good standalone button device? Using them for a few lights, more specifically in the kids rooms. I have couple of the Xiaomi Mijia Aqara Smart Wireless Switch Smart Remote One Key Control and they are garbage as they force hold the last button press..
round or square one?
the square with rounded corners
ah... i have round ones, they're awesome
here's a list to peruse if you're looking for some https://zigbee.blakadder.com/remotes.html
This is exactly what I was looking for.. thanks! Let me check to make sure we have different models
so yours is an exact circle right?
yepp, you have the other
it doesn't hold last button press?
say i click once, i will have to "hold" or "double" click for it to accept a single click again
really annoying
maybe it depends on your zigbee gateway too
im using the HUSBZB-1
ill do some digging.. haven't messed with them for a while as they caused a headache. thanks again for the response and the list!
As Blakadder indicated, this product is just simplistic and awesome - has so many actions - <https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Xiaomi_WXKG01LM.html > . The other fancy one I like is the Cube https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Xiaomi_MFKZQ01LM.html I have 3 now and 1 is literally made it as a Dice which when rolled displays the dice number and plays a custom made "snake and ladders" 🙂 a great time with family! in these times
I'm just moving my Tasmota Sonoff sensors from using json value template to the state_attr value template. Problem I am getting is that the the HA is not pickling up the values for temp, humidity and dew point.
- platform: template
sensors:
temperature_aquarium:
friendly_name: 'Temperature Aquarium'
unit_of_measurement: '°C'
value_template: "{{ state_attr('switch.castel_5478CE', 'temperature') }}"
The unit is a Sonoff TH16 with Tasmotoa 8.2. I the logs I see the state_attr calls but they have no values.
Do those templates work in
-> Templates?
@winged knoll Good point ... no they don't. It gives: value_template: "None"
There you go 😉

Either you've got a typo in the entity_id, or the attribute, or one doesn't exist
Cheers, figuring out what I've messed up somewhere as looking at the docs the syntax and layout is good. Just needed confirmation I wasn't stare crazy after 2.5 months of lock down
ill do some digging.. haven't messed with them for a while as they caused a headache. thanks again for the response and the list!
@modest dawn sounds like the way it integrated it doesn't support that rather then the device itself
I'll give you one hint though... that
entity_idis wrong 😉
@winged knoll You got me ... I've run out of ideas 😦
@winged knoll I see what you are saying. I have upper case in other files hence the error. However, on correction still not data coming thru the sensor entity. So, I must have something more basic incorrect somewhere. Will go at it again tomorrow. The json method works but throws a >255 character error periodically. Same with a Sonoff/Tasmota S21 socket I have. Again, thanks for the patience and direction. 🙂
Hi! What is the current best solution for power monitoring of a house? I'd like something with 4 clip on sensors.
Just the whole house usage?
Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
What country are you in? For Norway all our power metres have a HAN port we can monitor with a serial port
I'm in South Africa, so not only are our distribution boards dumb, but it's also hard to get things into the country easily. But yes, I'd like to measure the house and some individual circuits.
The HAN port is a hun, sooo...
Hey guys i got 2 different sensor giving me 2 different values for luminosity
how do you normalise both of them?
they are currently in different spots
could it be they are on differnt scale?
Hi! What is the current best solution for power monitoring of a house? I'd like something with 4 clip on sensors.
@jovial sierra for something out of the box without any major config maybe look at Shelly's new device (think it's called Shelly 3M)
Is there a way to remove devices installed by automatic "auto discovery" that are no longer being used?
@modest dawn sounds like the way it integrated it doesn't support that rather then the device itself
@tidal grotto Are you referring to how I integrated the button within my HA as my problem, not the device?
@tidal grotto Are you referring to how I integrated the button within my HA as my problem, not the device?
@modest dawn yes, what gateway are you using?
Lol> Is there a way to remove devices installed by automatic "auto discovery" that are no longer being used?
@hearty ocean can disable them which hides them
Hi Guys, I am new to the subject and searched a few hours but didn't find anything for this device. Could you helpe me how to add this sensor ? Thanks in advance.
It's a #zigbee-archived device. You're better off asking there.
😉
Yes thanks @gritty zinc @winged knoll it is a #zigbee-archived device. Okay I will ask there
Hi. I just installed Home Assistant on my Raspberry Pi and have a few questions. I have 23 WeMo devices in my home and when adding the WeMo integration it detects 13 devices and 23 entities. What I don't quite understand is that out of the 19 light switches I have, 13 have a entity domain of light and, 6 have entity domain of switch. I don't see any correlation between some of the switches having a different domain and I'm not sure if I need to be worried about any of this but their icons are showing up wrong in the UI.
.light.switch @soft harness
@soft harness https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/light.switch/
I just can't wrap my brain as to why two physical light switches, one of them is detected as a switch and the other is detected as a light, they are identical
- Light (Belkin WeMo LED lights and Smart Dimmer Switch)
- Switch (Belkin WeMo Switches and includes support for WeMo enabled Mr. Coffee smart coffee makers.)
Generally - switch = on/off; light = dimming
some of my dimmers are switches in HA
23 WeMo devices, 4 of them are on/off, 19 are all definitely light switches to control my lights
ok well maybe it's making a bit more sense now
Thanks for clearing it up, somehow I thought I had dimmers as switches but only dimmers are being detected as light domain and anything that is on/off is a switch domain
Think of it this way: a switch might be connected to a light, but it could be connected to anything. HA just sees a switch and doesn't know there's a bulb on that circuit 🙂
so much for smart 😀
Understood... like one of my switches controls a fan in the bathroom (the one in the ceiling)
Aaaah, all is sorted out 🙂
Thanks guys
anybody here have a nanoleaf ?
Are you conducting a survey on ownership or do you have a problem you want help with?
i have a probleme, but usealy if i juste throw a textwall about it, i have to do it again later because no-one connected at the time have it :(
i just try to limit flood
If you don't form a proper question now, no-one will answer 😉 Put some effort in if you want other people to make an effort too.
I'm having network issue with both of my nanoleaf aura. they connect just find on the wifi but from time to time they will start flapping, replying to only 10-50% of the ping, and beeing unresponsive in HA.
Does anyone have the same issue ?
looking for a recommendation to replace this hog (US, zig/wave are both fine): https://imgur.com/a/uzmLHAj
wiring diagram: https://imgur.com/a/jFl0Nwv
i haven't looked to see how it's wired up specifically, but i have access to both the box (obv) and the fan
first time i see a fan controler with a wire per speed 🤔
Yeah, you'll likely need to replace both the controller and the motor unit
or you can diy it... but i will take some work (esp, 3 relay, a dial and 3 led)
if "com" is the source voltage and it passes the voltage via com through the selected speed line to the motor, you could probably bypass all that and take the supply and pass it through a standard fan controller to just the high phase. let the controller handle the speeds from there
if it "switches" between the lines
but if it turns on multiple, that'll get annoying
sounds like it'll be easier to replace the entire fan
if phnx solution work it would be simple, but if it don't be sure the fan controler you can can be use with a new fan to. Those a to expensive if you can't return them
Plus... you get a new fan!

Can anybody recommend a good weather station to use with the RF Bridge?
if you mean Sonoff RF Bridge then none
is there an update interval to poll sonoff temp sensors more often than ~5min
I just had a look and I can see what you meen with regards to the 5 minutes, but I presume this is a home assistant history/recorder thing rather than the Sonoff temp sensor. My temp sensor sends MQTT updates every other second.
are you sending the readings to a data base?
no, I just have a default setup.
Why are you sending it so frequently? Genuine questions not trying to be rude
Tasmota MQTT is doing it by default.
Oh gotcha
Just checked again, its sending an MQTT Status10 update every 8 seconds. Not something I specified.
Status10 is my temperature sensor information.
@wise oyster teleperiod
ty
its default is 300, lowest you can go is 10... thats seconds
Yeah I found the command thank you
Hey guys
Got a beginners question and I can't seem to figure it out.
Trying to create a sensor from the humidity reading from my sonoff switch. Dev is working on a fix for this but in the meantime I'm basically trying to take the reading from that entity and create a new sensor with just that value
Should I add a sensor in config file and have a value-template or any other way
you're trying to extract an attribute from an existing entity?
This shows an example of that: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/template/
@modest dawn yes, what gateway are you using?
@tidal grotto I am currently using ZHA to pick up the Aqara buttons. Tell me this is wrong please 😄
Hi folks, relative newbie here. I’ve been hooking up the core code in node red and yaml to control about 30 Shelly devices and 30 wyze devices. It’s all working well
All are off cloud using mqtt and assigned ips, etc. I’m very happy with the functionality so far
My next set of devices all communicate via canbus
And I’m lost on how to go about that. I did purchase the pican3 hat, but am now realizing I may have to start over with a full raspbian install for this
Any ideas? Anybody already do something with canbus?
Hi guys. I got electrical shutters/blinds on the outside of the windows. Currently controlled by a button on the wall like any other light switch that I have to hold in either up or down until in the position I want it. I want to automate this. What should I look for and if anyone here is happy with what they already have of you can give me suggestions. I see a lot online but the prices vary a lot. Both keeping the buttons as they are and install something behind them or replacing the wall mounted buttons with something else is ok with me. Just need help with what I should be looking for, pros and cons etc. I really appreciate the help, thanks in advance
Have a look at https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations#cover
you're trying to extract an attribute from an existing entity?
@gloomy spoke
Thanks. I've tried a value template but can't get it to work. Switch name is "switch.sonoff_th16" and the attribute is "humidity". I've tried {{ states.switch.sonoff_th16.humidity | float }} any ideas?

Lemme give that a shot
I think mine will work too
Both work
Mr o lah lah!
Works to create a new entity. So win over here!
But trying to create a guage in Lovelace and using value template gives me errors
That's... wonderfully vague
Lovelace cards don't support templates, but without actual details, you're on your own 😉
Lovelace cards don't support templates
@winged knoll
Aaaaah! Then @fringe moon & @winged knoll I owe you a beer
Hi, is it possible for a Sonoff t2uk flashed with Tasmota 8.3.1 to dim the relay controlled light? If so what MQTT command is it... Thanks 🤞
That’s what I have come to the conclusion... thought there was a way with the original Sonoff app to do dimming, but never used one that way...
thinking something does a thing usually ends up as wishful thinking
Yeap... 😂
Just spent a few hours issuing MQTT commands in the hope... 😬
Guess that renders the relay outputs as pretty useless now...
Guess I need to put some d1 minis behind each switch?
anyone have any idea if SONOFF ZBBridge will work if blocked from the cloud?
probably, but why not use something open like a CC2531 \ CC1352 etc instead ?
Nice discussion here it seems btw https://github.com/arendst/Tasmota/issues/8197
it's a work in progress
one hub, instead of a pi and a stick that could have issue
my use case is door sensors only
Don't need the flexibility later
I've had Z2M going for over a year, no issues with "the stick"
Still need a pi and the stick total cost for that is like 30-60 usd?
how are you running HA?
I am running deconz on my host ha machine yes no need for extra pi, but i'd like seperate as I use my host machine for tinkering for other things
also just looking at options for family members who just need door sensors 🙂
if you run an MQTT server you can make a Zigbee2Tasmota gateway
I'm not that deep yet
then you cannot avoid the cloud
more then anything I like just buying these sort of things to see the pro's and cons then sell on
Interesting, though Z2T is probably not interesting to me as I run the CC1352 🤔
Absolutely most compact option would be a Pi with a Raspbee hat, running either deCONZ or just direct with zha
its exactly for i don't want to buy a pi target demographic 😄
what do you think the end goal will look like, a single purchasable hub and plugs in and any zigbee 3.0 device connects to it? and how would that hub be likley to maintain support for all platforms 😛
Purchasable
Makable
😄 probs always be that here I spose
technically you can get that already but its called "raspberry pi + hat"
thats two seperate things and requires fair bit of setup 🙂 + psu + case + sd card
If hue did door sensors I would be pretty content to just use the hue hub as I don't have need for above the v2 limit
I haven't tried to do the steps to connect HA to google home yet
Looks bit dauntiny
don't want to build out on reliance to £5 per month, happy to donate though
Are zigbee 3.0 devices going to work on the sticks you lot are running currently?
On the new zig-a-zig-ah! it will
Manual Google Assistant setup isn't bad, it's just a bunch of steps. Can be done in 10-15 min
(as in, in Zigbee 3.0 mode)
all my lighting/buttons and plug sockets are hue and get exposed to google home for free through hue, switching to deconz full time would require doing manual setup and fingers crossed it works flawelessly for as long as the hue would
I have 6 months till I decide what I do long term (moving out when market settles) but I think I will get a pi to run the stick on seperate to host and see how that goes
Hello
I use the new Xiaomi multiple gateway with Hassio. It is working fine, but the Aqara motion sensor report only the motion and doesn't report the illuminance.
Could you help me please?
@drifting grove not all aqara motion sensors have the illumination and the ones that do only report illumination when they report motion
@oblique bear I have the version of illumination. So not Mi motion sensor but also Aqara motion sensor which can measure the illumination. I see in the app, but not in hassio.
then yea i have one like that too it only reports illumination with motion
so it wasnt reliable
That was reliable and very nice with older gateway. But with this new multiple gateway and homekit doesn't
@oblique bear did you try the 5 second hack?
I'm going to try with the one in my office
personally if i wanted a super accurate motion sensor id put one on an esp
ZigBee > WiFi
@fringe moon what deos the 5 second hack mean?
There's a hardware hack for some of those devices that might let it report more frequently.
Anywhere up to 5 seconds.
I've seen reports that it doesn't always work.
Why stop at 'super accurate motion sensors' when you could just have a camera with computer vision?
If you're using WiFi, you're going to be running on mains power anyway, right?
Is there a way to generate push notifications without having home assistant installed on the device?
#integrations-archived question, but yes, there are quite a few notification options
Also...
~crosspost @spice bloom - there was no need to post there here, in #android-archived and #ios_and_mac-archived
@spice bloom Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond.
hi guys,... I am playing with MQTT stuff,.. and the developer=> MQTT debugging stuff,.. I can toggle a relay on a remote sonoff with the following,.. 'diyhouse/LtLounge2x/cmnd/POWER', and a payload of 'toggle'... but I have failed to listen on the correct topic name,.. I have tried numerous combinations,.. but I have yet to hit the right one,.. can anyone enlighten me pls,.. Many tx
replace cmnd with stat
yep that the 'cookie',.. tx guys...
can I use 'tele',.. somehow to get the json data reported back at all..? I 'assumed' I could replace cmnd, stat, with tele,.. NOP!!
tele is for telemetry data sent periodically
humm,.. ok can I display the json info,.. as it shows on the docs info page for HA,.. https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Home-Assistant/#disabling or do I have the wrong end of the stick again,...
What are you trying to do?
anybody have some recommendation for a smart water valve? compatible with homeassistant?
I look at the Eve Aqua but it's BLE only
any wifi valve with esphome?
trying set up a sonoff dual manually... and trying to see MQTT stuff for a sonoff basic ,.. and apply to a dual,.. well that's the plan...
just use https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Home-Assistant/#switches the Multiple switch template
@winged knoll hmm might work but too much fiddling with eu / gardena plugs I believe.. thanks anyways
@zealous dune so I should set schedules with a arduino to turn on / off on button press? I think it might be easier to create a Homekit / BLE proxy with the Eve Aqua 😛
what?
how do you control this? with a arduino? what do you mean with flashing?
its an esp8266 device, works with Tuya app
you can control it with Tuya integration if you don't mind the chinese cloudiness
uh oh nogo, I stay far away from cloud
unfortunately I also don't have experience with ESP, will take a look at it
the template is everything I need to flash on the esp then right?
no just the configuration of pins, you need tuya-convert to flash or serial flash
phew that's a lot of unknowns for me
I think I will just take a regular 220v valve with NC, a raspberry and a relay
I was planning to use the template for a double device,.. I was looking at making a single work first,.. ( still learning,... just little steps as they say )
but single cannot work if yo're using a double switch device
sorry didnt say,.. but have single device and a double device...
then both should work
...got them all working now.. yippee,... just about to make a snapshot ,.. . and figure out where it goes...
Has anoyone been able to get an Ipad2 to work with Home Assistant? It's locked out from updates and I have no way of interface with HA. It hangs on "initializing" when trying to view from a browser, and the app is "imcompatable with this ipad".
anyone know if this will work HA?
https://www.jaycar.co.nz/wi-fi-universal-smart-remote/p/AR1974
Googling 'home assistant jaycar' doesn't give any useful results, so it's unlikely.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
It will not work as is
ok
looking for a heat gun, anyone use these? or have a suggestion with more variety of tips?
@haughty shuttle , what are you trying to do
various, smd components reflow, heat shrink tubing, whatever.
Is this the right channel to ask about a hacked Wink relay? As in - I have it set up and hooked to my MQTT broker, now I'm trying to figure out how to program the buttons properly in HA.
Possibly, we'll know as you explain more 😉
Ok cool. It was a toss up between here and #automations-archived ,
So I've got my Wink relay all set up. MSQTT sees it. In my config.yaml I have:
Please use https://paste.ubuntu.com/ or https://www.hastebin.com/ to share code or logs.
I do not want the switches to operate the payload that is wired to them. I want the upper switch to toggle the light on my Zigbee fan controller, and the bottom to control the fan speed. I'm tackling the top first.
I wrote the following automations:
However nothing happens when I hit the switch.
Looking at configuration -> automations, I can see that the "Living Room Relay Light On" is executed when I hit the button, but nothing happens.
I get the following in the log:
To test an automation there's three stages you can follow. Testing the action, the condition and action, and the whole automation:
- Use Developer tools (
)-> States to find the automation, click
and then push Execute - Use Developer tools -> Services and call
automation.triggeron the automation withskip_condition: false - Use Developer tools -> States to find the trigger entity, click the name, then change the state (at the top) to something that'll trigger the automation before pushing Set State
Though, I'm not sure why you're using an MQTT trigger when you've got an entity you can use the state of 🤷
I'm a straight newbie and trying to cobble together stuff that I'm reading as I go
Trying to learn by doing
This all would be more on topic in #automations-archived too, but 🤷
I'll move over there
Hello.
Maybe someone can help me with a wifi card. After connecting the card I have the message:
r8188eu 1-1.2: 1.0: Direct firmware load for rtlwifi / rtl8188eufw.bin failed with error -2
r8188eu 1-1.2: 1.0: Firmware rtlwifi / rtl8188eufw.bin not available
I downloaded the rtl8188eufw.bin file, but I don't know where and how to upload it.
please help
Tasmota IR blaster...anybody have experience?
nope, I got a tuya one and are about to install tasmota on it
oh ok. just bought it a few hours ago
Make sure you set the template
where?
it's in the config, under other config
on the web interface?
booting up my raspberry pi now
i have like 4 running most of the time. Can't believe they ::just:: came out with the 8gb
yeah, is it necessary?
uh, yeah
yeah it would help with corupt sd cards
i migrated to btrfs, but that turned out to be a bad idea so far. Corrupt b-tree
sdcard should be fine, it's not that old and it's a samsung
the guy that got me into HA just this week had so many problems with them
he went to NUC
hence I didn't even bother with the PI
price difference tho
Hyper-V for me is free
my home pc always on
leave my raspberry pi for something else
so is xen...and it's a baremetal hypervisor, rhel based
idk, anything is better than vmware for home stuff
no idea, i had both runnign ubuntu fine in the past
xcp can cluster, natively, and without a heavy management agent
just dont turn off your pc haha
which one?
i mean which pc? full on three machine cluster, 10gbe, 2 hosts with a xeon X5670 / 24gb ram and one with a pair of xeon 2630-v2s with 80gb
Pi's are nice for out of band stuff. Serial attached to COM1, console redirection
thats too complex for my needs :p
how do i put this IR into pairing mode?
the reset button at the bottom?
Won't be able to hit anything
What model did you get?
If you search tasmota's crowdsourced wiki you should be able to find it
My advice, as far as automations and what i've figured out so far, just use mqtt.publish
like the service
here
- alias: AC.Power
description: ''
trigger: []
condition: []
action:- data:
payload: '{"Protocol":"NEC","Bits":32,"Data":"0x01FE39C6","DataLSB":"0x807F9C63","Repeat":0}'
topic: cmnd/DVES_7950C0_fb/IRSend
service: mqtt.publish
- data:
like that
under automations
I gotta go to work. Feel free to pm

Im looking for a sensor that can track my garage door if it's open or not
I have full power access to it so doesn't need to be battery powered, any ideas
Anyone using rtlamr for reading power meters using rtlsdr?
does the workaround for tuya smart outlets using the Brilliant app still work?
Has anyone got a way to connect a Davis Weather vantage vue? I would like to data log the weather at my house. I would like to get the data from the display or even the raw data from the wireless signal. #davisweather
I have so many Device Tracker entities and not sure why.. for things that don't help tracking presence like my laptop, my HDMI switcher (which is network connected), etc.
it may be because I stupidly enabled the Unifi integration and then realized how bad of a mistake that was since it's not super helpful for presence as I expected.
What's the best way to mass remove all the device tracker entiteis created? Tell me it' snot hiding one by one?
We could tell you that but we'd be lying
I guess you could restore a backup from before you added them all...
Is there a way to pull the energy monitoring stats from a tp link hs110 smart plug ?
The documentation suggests you need to use a template sensor.
There's a section further down that explains how: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tplink/#extracting-energy-sensor-data
Very interesting, cheers @gritty zinc
Now I just need something to do with the readings
You might find this one helpful then:
There's other stuff you might want to try in terms of visualising it. For that, ask over at #frontend-archived
Are there any GPIOS available on the sonoff R3 to solder another input
or is that only for basic R1
anyway to extra consumption from tuya smart plugs?
in my known devices section, i see so many devices. also i see my neigbours TV too. i deleted them from known devices. but they still exist in entities. i think they are all bluetooth devices. is this common?
Is it possible to have the GoControl thermostat operate off the reading from a different temp sensor?
Question for someone familiar with installing light switches: do I need to break the tabs off of my switch that's in a 3 gang box if the other switches are standard switches, not dimmers?
the tabs are heatsinks. keep them if you can
if you're talking the GE guys, i fit a fan controller, a dumb switch and a dimmer in a 3 gang
its a tight fit but it works well
awesome thanks
my next challenge is figuring out which wire is the line and which is the load... the switch I took out didn't seem to have them labeled (edit: nvm it's labeled in the manual for that switch). one looks blacker than the other but i don't have a multimeter to check :/
ok i'm pretty sure the blacker one is the is from the panel (line), because the other switches have wires connected to it, whereas the dark gray one is in tubing with the netural/etc
Anyone else noticed that Buienradar devices stopped updating yesterday? API change?
are there any IR gurus here? I cant get my IR sensor to work on my PI
Got a challenging question. I have a humidifier connected to a switch. Im already automating this to turn on/off based on another sensor.
The humidifier has a water reserve for 7 hours of on time. Ultimately I want to add all of the humidifier's ON time and know when I have to refill the humidifier.
Anyone here tackle something similar?
Somebody asked about that before, in the last month or so, but https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/history_stats/ may help
Thx @winged knoll yea I'm playing around with that and let's see. Really don't get the difference between recorder and history tho. I'll keep testing, my main issue is getting this to report when 7 hours approaches and resetting the timer once I've refilled the water :/
You may want to search the Discord server, as I said somebody else tackled this recently
Will do
I think they ended up simply tracking the on time with an input_number and automations
Hi all, is there a way to alter the payload from a MQTT switch, as when I operatic in Lovelace it’s not doing what I want - hope this makes sense 😬
its more how you configured the mqtt switch in HA than changing payloads from the switch itself
Auto discovered...
What's the actual problem
Have mode red doing stuff with it fine, it’s just when the Lovelace switch is operated it does so et else...
Have a Sonoff t2 2 hand, flashed with tasmota 8.3.1, relays disconnected
Set up node red for single press, double etc
When I operate the Lovelace switch, it turns on the relay... ie POWER2. would like it to be SINGLE
can see this from the debug info
Then... you need to define an MQTT switch that does that
Tell Tasmota not to use discovery, configure it manually, job done 😉
Am new to this, so not sure how... hence the auto discovery, was hoping that I could edit a config file somewhere 🤞
Auto-discovery can't be edited
Ok thanks will have a read on that link 👍

@winged knoll sorry, I started typing before I realised
😄
Well, at least you didn't post a 100+ line piece of code to the channel, like some have done... 😉
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/command_line/ uses the returned string
So, we kind of need to see the config and what you get back from nc
@winged knoll yes - that value would actually be fine, but it doesn't seem to assign the value consistently.
If you're having problems with your updates to your configuration:
- Check the troubleshooting steps
- Check your log file - remembering you may need to set logger to
infoordebug - Explain what the problem you're having is - sharing configuration, errors, and logs
I can run on command line, pipe to file etc. consistently within the container
See the second bullet there - there's often key data in the log
I checked the log too - no errors or anything 🙂
Is logger set to info?
I will check the settings though
ok, having the integration enabled would be a start 🙂
@winged knoll output is simply 2020-06-04 12:07:44 DEBUG (SyncWorker_5) [homeassistant.components.command_line.sensor] Running command: nc -w 1 <ip> 31339 2>&1
Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
Well, if there's no error, maybe it's fine 🤷
What does your sensor look like though?
Unfortunately, the value is empty 🤷♂️
😦
it is strange because sometimes the value is populated but most of the time it is not
