without samba it's rather painful to move files around outside the core config directory (icon sets) check certs etc

I've asked this before, but had no change diving into it (sorry @sly kindle for not getting back at you, but thanks for checking up). My problem is, I can't get Samba to work. I've got the installation, configuration, but the logs tell me: "Could not find child # -- ignoring" where the number keeps increasing. My setup is the following:

I assume that with this configuration, I can start Samba and the installation starts (so far so good). After a while, the message "Could not find child # -- ignoring" shows up. I can't find my Raspberry Pi in my network, so I still can't access the .yaml-files. Does anyone have any thoughts? I might miss something really basic, but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance!

i changed the ip address of my Raspberry Pi with HomeAssistant image flashed on it. Now DuckDNS doesn't work anymore. restarting the addon does not help either. how do i solve this? i can still reach it via homeassistant:8123

trying to flush logs in pihole using ingress results in this error: Wrong token! Please re-login on the Pi-hole dashboard. - but ingress provides no such functionality
is it safe to forcibly rm pihole-FTL.db ?

I start using home assistant on my PI a few days ago. One of the first things I want to use is the AdGuard addon. I think I did everything that is necessary but I still have access to youtube for example when I block it. I am not quite sure about the static ip thing. I applied the config but I am not sure if the dns setting is correct. I configured 192.168.178.1, but when I start the PI the console says: Start DNS port forwarding to 172.30.32.3. Does this belong to each other?
Any idea what could be wrong?

Anyone using node-red add-on? Installed from the add-on store and the readme for the project says no configuration necessary, works out the box. I can't get the home assistant nodes to work. Log message is "Node-RED custom integration needs to be installed in Home Assistant for this node to function correctly." Any thought how I do this? or why it's necessary if the node-red add-on is supposed to work out of the box?

Since I upgraded to 0.107.1 (from 0.106.6), my Mosquitto won't start. No logs at all, just won't start. Just me or known error? I googled, but didn't find anything related.

I recently installed the AdGuard add-on and it doesn't appear to do anything. It's tracking and I can see everything that is being filtered via the webUI, but as I navigate to websites ads are still present.
I did what was instructed via AdGuard as followed:

@teal coral I have the exact some issue!
@teal coral your devices normally get DNS addresses from the router. You change the router to point to adguard. You don't have to change each individual device.
Yes, someone else told me this. I was only following as instructed by the config by Adguard to do so. I did change this and issue persist

And...you shouldn't run either pi-hole or adguard if you don't understand the concept. It is not a browser extension.

All you change is on the router, to point to the HA ip address instead of whatever DNS servers were present before.
Nothing needs to happen for each device
This is not a Home Assistant thing. This is an adguard thing

They block ads by acting as the DNS server for your network.
Normally your router handles this.

Well, I'll keep working on other things to get use to and understand HA. I've failed a lot so far, but have also managed to fix a lot of things I've never done or understood before. So this in an interesting project to learn while quarantined. I'll circle back to AdGuard when I have a deeper understanding of its capabilities.

Ok I got SAMBA working but now I'm running into an issue with the MQTT Mosquitto add-on. Are username and passwords necessary?

I'm also trying to configure the wink add-on. I've entered the CLIENT ID and CLIENT SECRET and then it gives me a link to click to auth but when I click it nothing happens and a message says This entity does not have a unique ID, therefore its settings cannot be managed from the UI.

Hi, I am trying to setup MQTT broker and integration, I installed MQTT broker and created an user with user group, Then should add this user in allowed users list to connect MQTT broker?
If you are using the user of Home Assistant, you do not need to specifically create the user for MQTT
unless ofcourse if you want to specifically want it for some reason
after the broker is running properly (check the add-on's log) . then head over to Developer Tools -> MQTT to test a topic

Hello all. I'm currently using the DuckDNS and Nginx Proxy Manager Add-ons. I'm able to successfully access HA externally securely. When accessing locally, I need to use the https URL, which is then shows that it's not secure. In the Nginx Proxy Manager admin page, I've added a proxy host as shown in the video, however, I'm unable to access from the Source as shown in the video, even before activating the SSL. Is there something I'm missing?
if I access http://hassio:80, I do see the Congratulations page that I've successfully started the proxy manager but that I have a host that isn't set up yet

in your example for the nginx proxy add-on, you created a proxy host that would send a valid cert to the local address (link)

Hi, I would like to try the Home Assistant Cast feature on my Google Nest Hub but have a problem getting https://cast.home-assistant.io/ to connect to the default address. I get to the page with the picture of the Google Nest Hub but it says "Unable to connect to https://<mydomain>:8123". I use the Nginx Proxy Manager and can access HA via https://<mydomain> both externally and internally. I can also access HA via http://<mydomain>:8123 internally but **not **using https.Can I force Cast to not use port 8123 when trying to connect? As far as I know, only https traffic on port 443 is passed along by Nginx. Is it a router port forwarding problem or Nginx+Cast related?

I have a Proxy Host for my HA domain name (ha.mydomain.com). Scheme is "http". Forward Hostname/IP is my internal IP. Forward Port is 8123. Websockets Support is on. Under SSL, Force SSL is on. That's it.

so I've removed the SSL cert and key from my config.yaml with the base_url pointing to https://mydomain and rebooted HA. I've then added a proxy host in the proxy manager pointing to mydomain that then has a destination of hassio on port 8123

Hello! I'm trying to install the latest moitoneye updates (not yet released), so I downloaded it and added it to /addons, but when I go to install it, apk fails. I separated out the RUN lines and it appears to fail installing gcc=9.2.0-r3. It doesn't say how it failed. Any ideas?

I think the Nginx Proxy Manager is storing its information in the mariaDB which is a requirement for that add-on. I'd try reinstalling that add-on as well since the reinstall of proxy manager itself didn't resolve

Looking at the "Let's Encrypt" they mention Google DNS as supported without opening port 80 (I'd prefer not to) - is this Google Domains DNS/"ns-cloud1.googledomains.com" for example? or is that referring to Google Cloud DNS?
Eh, worked around it anyway, just used DNS/port 80 for renewals.

Random not-specifically-HA-related question. Using Ad Guard, is it best to set my router's WAN DNS to the AdGuard IP? Or should I set it in DHCP so that each client is polling instead of the entire WAN connection?

Reason I ask is AdGuard Home is showing my router’s IP address on the interface.
@chrome tusk I believe that he meant that Ad Guard's IP should be set as the DNS on your router's DHCP but only for internal networks. I originally had mine set as DNS for my WAN network.

everything I googled about generating this cert is over a year old, and involves using python. I thought the point of this add-on was not to do that

Hello everybody. I've had the calendar card plugin for quite awhile now, but it stopped working awhile back and now gives me only "response error 400" for all of my Google calendars. It seems as though HA isn't pinging Google for calendar info anymore, but my Google ID and secrect are correct in my config.yaml and everything looks good in Google developers console. Anybody else having issues with the Google calendars plugin?

Hi, I'm trying to install the discrete plugin for Grafana. I do it from docker with grafana-cli, I can see that the plugin is installed in /var/lib/grafana/plugins but it is not available in the plugins even after a restart. Any idea how I can fix that? Thanks.

HI all I am having troubles. I am all new to HA. I am attempting to install the Unifi addon. it installed ok and when I click the webui it takes me to the unifi page as if I am configuring a brand new controller. When I try to restore from my backup it says the version of my back up is to new. What can I do to fix this?
Anybody else been having issues with the Spotify addon? Had it working for ages but about a month ago it stopped working properly...I've updated it and my HASSIO system since to no avail. Basically Spotify will show that it is playing but no audio comes out, although randomly I have gotten it to work and when I change the song it borks it again.

Hello colleagues! I just started a fresh install of hass.io today. Not sure why the SMB from the add-on store does not start at all?? The moment I click START, it lights up red without any spinning circle. Modifying the config with the right YAML format also gives me error that it is invalid. Nothing can be seen in the log.

Im running the deCONZ add-on and I got a strange problem with osram zigbee devices. They show up in homeassistant but im not able to control them. I can control them through phoscon and then they change state in homeassistant.
Its only osram devices, I got loads of xiaomi and ikea that works well.
How do I troubleshoot this?

@noble oak Any chance someone's playing Animal Crossing at your house? Found it overrode the port forwarding rules on my router via UPnP. Disabling UPnP and reentering the port forwards worked for me.

but failing badly. When i used #672217570283094017, I was able to just to the installation but now with Hass.io I dont know how to do it.
I started with installing a terminal and "run git clone https://github.com/suborb/philips_android_tv"
but then "pip3 install -r requirements.txt" failed, because it couldnt find the file

Yeah, that's a typical configure script output. It usually tests that by generating a very simple c program like #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { return 0;} and try to compile it

You don't. That's how the setup script does it behind the scenes.
I'd repor this to the maintainer. It shouldn't require this much effort to install an add-on.

Hi all. I use Duck DNS add on as means to connect to Home Assistant from outside LAN. I have noticed that I cannot connect to HA after a power outage. It seems that the problem is caused by HA (and Duck DNS) booting up before my router has chance to connect to internet. Apparently (not sure about that) after booting, Duck DNS does not make additional attempts to connect to the server and report my dynamic IP. Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

This is my first chat so for my bad english.
I have a problem with DuckDns. Today i migrate from "Home assistant core" at Freenas Jail to "Hass.io Supervised" at Freenas VM Ubuntu 18.04.04.
The reason i do this migration was for having the ADD-ONS that Home Assistant Core don't have. Because i need to have access from outside my lan to HA.
I already have OpenVPN to do that, but i prefer to make it with DuckDns and SSL, because sometime i forget to turn on the OpenVPN at my android mobile so this is not very useful.
After i manage to finish the migration, i follow "JuanMTech - How to set up remote access in Home Assistant - Hass.io" and all was ok util i come to the step to make the change at my configuration.yaml at "http:" adding the following

ssl_certificate: /ssl/fullchain.pem
ssl_key: /ssl/privkey.pem
Then after restart HA to continue guides step, HA never bootup again. So go to configuration through SAMBA share i have made and remove the lines "base_url,ssl_certificate,ssl_key"
I have already check the folder /ssl to see if the files "fullchain.pem" and "privkey.pem" are in place and they are.
I also make the Port Forward at pfSense for ports "WanIP:80 -> LanIP:80" and "WanIP:443 -> LanIP:8123" like the guide saw me.
Also check ports if open with "canyouseeme" and port 443 is OK and also i think port 80 but the is nothing UP at this port so its tell that is can't see me, but i am sure that i also OK port 80.
Please is there anyone who can help me complete the DuckDns installation and make my HA with SSL and becaume available from outside my lan.

@manic fox I got it to work, I’ve created the .conf file which contains nothing but the cert paths. That file is loaded by the customize setting. Still strange why we have a configuration option in the add on settings but that doesn’t get mapped through.

Usually my CPU is around 10% when not actively using HA but noticed today it's sitting around 30-40% all of a sudden. Only big difference I can think is adding new devices to deconz? But why would that increase CPU that much? Any suggestions on how to track down what's using what? Was thinking maybe Glances would show me?

So, here's a question that's been plaguing me - I setup the SSH Add-on on a Supervised install, but the only thing I can use is ha commands. How can I get to the root, host system?

but you can set up access to it over ssh or connect directly

Can someone help me with getting zigbee2mqtt add-on going? Using a flashed CC2531, when I start the addon, I get an error saying that it couldn't start zigbee-herdsman.
If I SSH into the hassio container, as root user, and test the write access to the port, it returns failure
following the instructions in the FAQ (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/FAQ.html), I should be able to fix it by using "sudo chown [USER] [PORT]", but it returns "sudo: command not found"

And when I now ssh from my MacBook to my Raspberry it works, but only when I use the user root. But according to my config, the user should be georg, right? Am I missing something here?
With user georg I get a Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive). Error. And in the logs on the raspberry I can see Invalid user georg from 192.168.1.42 port 58319

You could have anything there - it's ignored
The stock SSH add-on only uses root, there's a community add-on (https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-ssh) that is more configurable

I don't use that install method, or add-ons, but I'd check the logs on the remote end to ensure that the server is accepting the key and user

I can not compile and upload to my ESPHome devices as platformio api is down at the moment? Is that correct, or should it compile anyways? It is only a spelling error I am correcting, so nothing new should be necessary to download
@wintry tulip you don't need the Google Assistant SDK addon unless you intend to add audio hw like mic and speakers. You probably want the Google Assistant integration.
And the /addons directory is for manually created addons

Actually I came across it while searching Integration for Shelly1, it is a custom component I also could install manually but they suggest the HACS for doing so, now when reading about it I found it very interesting. Does it work stable?

HACS itself is also a custom integration, so also not supported. But it's been stable. Instability really depends on what you end up choosing to install from within it
And what you install from it, has nothing to do with HACS itself

- remove Mosquitto addon
- restart HA
- re-install Mosquitto addon
- open Mosquitto in Integrations
- all devices could be deleted
After a restart of the clients, they wont show up in Mosquitto in HA

The point of the check config addon is to tell me 😉
That addon was broken often enough that I just go for it now after reading the breaking changes and adjusting accordingly. Config issues will rarely cause a failure to start, and logs will tell you what’s wrong and what to fix
Do you think there would be much interest in an add-on that spawns a development HA environment and periodically syncs it with live?
I'm thinking about trying to build something like that so I can stop building and rebuilding ha

I've just installed the InfluxDB add-on on a HA supervised, and configured as suggested. I think my configuration is okay - the InfluxDB Web UI works. I'm seeing this error in my HA log: [supervisor.api.ingress] Ingress error: Cannot connect to host 172.30.33.1:1337 ssl:None [Connection refused]
That port 1337 is wrong. The port for InfluxDB is 8086. This is in my configuration.yaml:

Also, the port seems to be correctly forwarded:

True. If I do nc 172.30.33.1 1337 from inside the homeassistant/aarch64-hassio-cli container (via docker exec -it … sh), I can connect.
It serves a slightly different interface on that port to be compatible with ingress

The error message was from the first HA reboot after the installation - InfluxDB was probably not up by that time.

Hi, I'm running the BitwardenRS addon and would like to try to set up fail2ban, does anyone know how I can enable the BitwardenRS addon to log to a file? According to the BitwardenRS wiki logging to a file can be enabled via a docker environment variable but I'm unsure how to achieve this in the addon.

Hi, I have issues with Samba add-on. On my computer, I have already set up the Samba, as I use the same computer for more things. Now I obviously can't use the Samba inside the Home Assistant, as whenever I connect to Samba share it will open up the shares from my previously set Samba - not the one from Home Assistant. Does anyone have any idea if my problem is solvable, so that I will be able to edit my Home Assistant configs on my local computer. Thanks!

The directories which are shared out in a standard install by the samba addon are in /usr/share/hassio on yours

Hello all.....first time user to Hass.io. So I just finished installing Tasmoadmin but when I goto the web UI I get nothing at all. When I check to see if the service is running still it shows that it's not. Am I missing something here still???? Sorry...total NOOB.

Hi, i have a new install on a win10 laptop using vbox virtual machine, was connected through ip address of the vm, and installed duckdns and configured as per juanmtechs video, set up on the duckdns website, got my domain etc, setup,port foward, but think i got wrong so have been on to my provider, they have checked port is coming in to me but not getting through to vm, and now i cant login to ha via ip... so completly stuck.... any suggestions please

I have a dumb question...I added the file editor extension, and browsed to my configuration.yaml file there....it shows 16 lines, but I have added a handful of integrations (all via the UI), so I know there should be more lines in the file. Why am I not seeing everything?
@latent marten integrations added from the UI don't use yaml. They end up as json files in the hidden .storage directory in your /config directory
So your yaml integrations are yaml. Your UI integrations are...UI

With things like packages or splitting yaml into files, which users can do any way they like, adding it there would be difficult

yes this is set on the tasmota console, if you need to add specifics then entering it manually would be what you want

Anyone know where I can check logs to see what's failling on this? I tried to install/start Node-Red in hass.io. It installs. I refresh and start and it says it's started but I get an error when I try to open the UI...if I refresh again I get the option to start it....so...it's starting, then immediately stopping. 😦

Hey guys and gals, Trying to setup the custom card for Spotify, added the extension to Lovelace, created the custom card, and gor the UI up, registered duckDNS and installed the extension, created an app in developers. Spotify.com and added a callback link according to the format mentioned in the GitHub page. But still I'm getting an error message when trying to authorize my app by logging in to Spotify from the card. Any ideas?
I can access my HA server through the duckdns address, but when I'm trying to connect to the UI for HA by adding :8123 to the url, i get "connection refused". Any ideas?

Is it possible to see the full log of an Add-On? I'm trying to use the "Check Config" addon, but the output is very long (as it dumps a big part of my config to the log) which truncates the output making it not possible to see what the actual error is

there's a web ui terminal and then if you want to connect using a client, yes, you want to enter 22 there

i get SSH port is disabled. Prevent start of SSH server
you'll want to enter 22 there if you also want to use something like putty
Handy for when you lose access to the frontend and need to troubleshoot

this isn't ssh access to the host. It is a container which provides the custom commands for checking logs, checking config, etc. And it provides access to the default directories, nano editor...but not access to the underlying host

Sounds like you need to configure your device to connect to your broker
the web ui doesn't need key or password anyway
but I think you need to fill one or the other for the addon to start

its super cool when it works, I prefer to have all config in code and on GH but the addon wont stay on, super annoying, so when i push, i have to click start every time, then it will pull
