#

that isn't normal... no errors or anything in the logs or the browser?

icy grove
#

could you help me out a little on where to find the logs? (I'm a newbie 🙃 )

tropic depot
#

configuration -> settings -> log

icy grove
#

an error of some sort will probably pop up shortly after restarting I assume?

tropic depot
#

not necessarily

#

i'd assume there aren't any errors tbh

icy grove
#

I don't see any but I'll try and look if I can find anything

#

I've seen them same problem reported across the forum, for some reason most people encountering this issue have a Conbee II aswell

icy grove
tropic depot
#

yeah it's generally conbee that I have seen this from

I would much prefer that over tearing everything down for one device. Just ping me when you have a second. I haven't been able to find a solution yet so I would really appreciate it.

@austere patio - CC2652R

#

austere patio
ripe hazel
#

well lately i've had varying issues with devices not responding properly or going offline for no reason - i looked in logs and found those routing issues and going back see they happen periodically - i know for fact i wasn't having these issues before. Also now when I restart home assistant due to some change or update it seems to take much much longer to recover from zigbee when before it was in lock step with the message about home assistant being back online

#

literally like 2/3 minutes before my zigbee devices report back as back online

austere patio
#

Do you have any offline devices left over?

ripe hazel
#

not at the moment - i normally go through and reset it

#

also battery life has been horrendous as of late on my zigbee devies

austere patio
#

Like a stale device that is no longer in use but still in the database

ripe hazel
#

hmm

#

let me look

austere patio
#

Routing issues on startup are expected, it takes a bit for the coordinator to build routes

ripe hazel
#

but 2 to 3 minutes? (might be my perception but it used to come back much faster before)

austere patio
#

2 to 3 minutes is excessive. Enable ZHA debug logging and post the startup log.

ripe hazel
#

how do i do that?

#

found it

#

going to do it now

#

just to confirm i'm adding this correct

#

and am I only restarting zha or core also?

#

never mind - have to stop being lazy and read - getting that info now

ripe hazel
#

umm

#

how do send log

#

right away as i go through this i see devices i don't even have anymore

#

how do i clear that out

#

do i need to reset the zigbee stick?

austere patio
#

No, you should be able to find the devices in the ZHA integration's device page and just remove them

#

The stick doesn't keep track of what's on your network

ripe hazel
#

how do I get you log

#

there is allot of info in there

#

I have quite a bit of this

#

Am I right that in z2m, state.json stores settings of each device connected using it? What does coordinator_backup do then?

austere patio
outer plaza
#

Is it necessary file for backup?

#

I guess not

#

as it looks like logging file

austere patio
#

It is

#

I think Z2M will recreate it by reading the settings from your coordinator hardware

outer plaza
#

Ahh, this is dependant on dongle I'm using?

austere patio
#

But if you re-flash your coordinator firmware or use a new one, your network will not be easily recoverable

outer plaza
#

Okay, will store it then

#

But.. is it possible to fully restore network if coordinator stick dies?

austere patio
#

Yes, that's what the backup is for

outer plaza
#

Or do I have to manually pair each device

#

I need to dig into it, how to do such backup properly

austere patio
#

It's done automatically by Z2M on shutdown I believe

outer plaza
#

In the other way than via GIT

#

but.. if for example my coordinator stick dies, will this kind of backup be enough to fully recover network?

austere patio
#

Yes

Can someone sanity check this for me?

  trigger:
    - platform: event
      event_type: deconz_event
      event_data:
        id: opple_switch_2_gang
        event: 1002
  action:
    - service: light.toggle
      target:
        entity_id: light.hue_office
      data:
        brightness: 255```

When I press the button, the logbook shows the light is turned off, then instantly back on, by the same automation about 1/2 second later. the deconz event is triggered only once. Also it's only intermittent, so sometimes it works as intended and other times it just dims slightly for 1/2 second before going back to full brightness...
dusky hatch
#

Have you tried monitoring the deconz events under developer tools -> events? Maybe there is more than 1 event coming in from the switch?

#

The config itself looks like it should work to me, although I don't use deconz myself

dreamy palm
#

Yeah, event listener shows only one event coming from the switch

reef inlet
#

Quick question. If you move a ZigBee device ,will it automatically sort itself out and reconnect to the nearest repeater or do you need to re-pair it etc ‽

dusky hatch
#

Maybe some other automations getting triggered then?

dusky hatch
dreamy palm
#

The light shows no other automations triggering it, but I think I have a suspicion to follow now... Is the light triggered by the switch when HASS isn't running...

reef inlet
#

Ah ok. I don't know if it is struggling to connect cos of distance to nearest repeater or if it's not actually trying

lilac wharf
#

In general, devices will reroute to better parents. That doesn't necessarily mean the closest parent though

reef inlet
#

Gotya. I'll try to re-pair it tomorrow then ..fingers crossed. Else I'll have to buy a repeater or something. It's not even that far. Maybe like 10 metres through a couple of patio doors at most ...hohum

Posted this over on DrZZZs diy-led channel, but would also appreciate any contributions here.....

Ive just bought a heap of SK6812 WWA strips to go into my brewery and i need a recommendation for a ZIGBEE controller for these. I truly dont have the time at the moment to tinker/build a WiFi controller (I have done many controllers using esphome for my brewery) and I want to rely on a different protocol than Wifi as my internet infrastructure is pretty full. Im currently running Z2M on HA and just need something I can buy that is pretty much Plug n Play (no boxes/connections etc to make). I can use a RGB controller obviously, however from a staff perspective to adjust lights etc - id really like to avoide RGB and use something that ONLY represents WW/CW on the HA side of things rather than a full RGB color wheel.

I haven't seen any zigbee controllers for individually addressable leds. There are ready made WLED controllers that are plug and play tho

In case it doesn't I might have to setup a second zigbee mesh with the deconz USB stick. But then comes the question on what channel. My existing is on channel 25.

I'm brand new to smart home space. I wanna get some wifi bulbs, and two battery powered remote switches to control them. But I don't want the switches themselves to be wifi because as I understand they will use way more battery.

So for the battery powered remote switch I'll need a zigbee or zwave solution. But it's my understanding that you need a hub to run zigbee or zwave devices.

But it's also my understanding that home assistant is it's own hub. I know many people get raspberry pi's for this but I was thinking why not just use my pc since it's always on anyways.

But I have a few questions and concerns.

  1. Home assistant is just a program right? I don't need to buy anything some kind of dongle right?
  2. My PC doesn't need to be hard wired right? My pc itself is connected to network and internet via wifi. I heard some hubs need to be directly connected to the router. Is this nessissary for home assistant.
  3. Both my router and my pc are in the basement. But the smart devices I want to control are on the second floor of my house. I have perfect wifi connection to my 2nd story room though. So if home assistant runs on my pc downstairs, as long as my wifi connection is good zigbee and zwave devices should work right?
  4. or am I completely wrong, do I need to buy a z-wave or zigbee hub in order to use zigbee or z-wave products. And if so will the distance from router be a concern since I cant hard wire to second floor?
sour shadow
#
  1. You still need a Zigbee dongle - the radio
#
  1. It really should be
#
  1. That's not how it works
#

Zigbee doesn't "piggyback" on the WiFi signal, it's completely separate

#

(same goes for Z-Wave)

quaint stirrup
#
  1. so the Zigbee dongle - the radio needs to be plugged into my pc then right? But that means the radio is going to come from my pc in the basement. I don't have any other smart devices for a connection to hop between in order to reach the devices on the top floor. So how good is the range for a dongle in general. Do you think it will be problem?

  2. how much worse would it really be using wifi over hard wire for pc with dongle plugged in. I get like 250mbps on my AC wifi connection to my pc and about upstairs I get like 50+mbps on N wifi band. (Both same network). I get wifi adds latency but shouldn't it be extremely negligible.

sour shadow
#
  1. Yes. Or you buy a network connected coordinator. Range is typically in the 5 to 8 meters region - depending on many factors
#
  1. Your server, and HA is a server, should always be wired. This is good practice, and doubly so if you're using Zigbee since it uses the same frequency band and you're just going to add interference
lofty junco
#

@sour shadow sorry to ping you, I need some god to help me locate my error x_x
When i give a voice command to ma alexa device, it tells me that the hub of the linked device/light doesn't respond/anwers.
But in my alexa app i can normally control my lights by buttonpress. For the alexa app to be working with the lights, ma AWS lambda instance must be working, right? So if the AWS instance works, the alexa app works and the lights work, it has do be something between my HA and the AWS instance, right?

you've got the lights integrated to alexa via the hub then? and not via HA

lofty junco
gloomy pivot
#

if they work through the alexa app, but not through voice, that seems like an alexa issue

lofty junco
gloomy pivot
#

so is the hub connected to alexa or HA?

#

lofty junco
sour shadow
lofty junco

i have a feeling that alexa still tries to connect to the physical hub, but i removed all linkings to that

gloomy pivot
#

@smoky jewel do you have discovery set up in zigbee2mqtt?

gloomy pivot
lofty junco
#

gloomy pivot

the emulated hue hub integration lets HA act like it is a hue hub, so things that connect to hue hub can use it

#

i use that to expose devices to my harmony remote

lofty junco

gloomy pivot
lofty junco
lofty junco
gloomy pivot
#

and how have you added them TO alexa?

#

via the emulated hue?

lofty junco
# gloomy pivot and how have you added them TO alexa?

via the HA config:

alexa:
  smart_home:
    locale: de-DE
    endpoint: https://api.eu.amazonalexa.com/v3/events
    client_id: xxx
    client_secret: yyy
    filter:
      include_entities:
        - light.schlafzimmer_decke
        - light.schlafzimmer_martin
gloomy pivot
#

if you had them set up with the old hub, you probably need to remove them first before using the HA-exposed ones

gloomy pivot
lofty junco
lofty junco
#

so the thing is:

#

the lights were connected to the phys hue hub before. I then went into the hue app and removed the lights there. I figured that this is removing them from hue and after that i was able to link them to HA

#

hmm... but even the one light that worked 2-3 months before isn't working now anymore...

#

in my alexa app it shows me that the lights are connected through "Home Assistant", so they are really connected to HA

#

it seems that just the voice command has problems... but why....

gloomy pivot
lofty junco
# gloomy pivot i'd ask in <#646814454063038466> as recommended

already did, that channels seems to be not used much^^° and I am not 100% sure that's an error related to something voicecommand-related in the end... It's just so strange. My debug-level HA-logs show me a lof of things like 2022-02-05 21:29:48 DEBUG (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.alexa.smart_home_http] Received Alexa Smart Home request: {'directive': {'header': {'namespace': 'Alexa', 'name': 'ReportState', 'payloadVersion': '3', 'messageId': 'b0f66644-6bd0-4f54-8929-c8e0b3787fb0', 'correlationToken': ..... which also makes me think that HA works fine with the AWS instance in the cloud... I guess wi will try to debug on alexa-side, but there i can't do much aside from removing the HA-skill and re-enabling it (which i already did)

gloomy pivot
#

yeah, we've gone out of my depth on alexa unfortunately

quaint stirrup
#

can a zigbee remote control a wifi lightbulb? zigbee usually sends a separate radio wave right? So that wouldn't be picked up by wifi but the zigbee dongle is connected to a pc which is connected to the wifi network. So would the signal go to the dongle and then the dongle would us the wifi network to send the signal to the bulb?

Or would wifi lightblub just plain not work with a zigbee switch?

hey, i found the problem but not the final solution 🙂
so the thing is, that i'm using "alexa household" with my wife. And since my AWS dev account is only linked to me, the voice commands only work if i command an echo device "alexa, switch to my account". afterwards the lights work just fine. But of course the commands also need to work when the echo devices are set to my wife. But I don't tink creating a 2nd dev-account for my wife and duplicating the skill will be good, because HA will get confused with 2 skills... So i somehow need to share my created dev-skill with my wife's amazon-account... but that seems to be harder than it should :/

hi guys, can someone recommend me some Zigbee light switches (neutral cable ones) UK

#

anyone know how exactly the ikea remotes work with their light sources, I paired both the remote and the LED gunnarp to my sonoff hub using ZHA first and while trying to pair the devices with each other too I seem to have lost the LED from the hub

the weird thing is it did all the flashing and dimming while eventually settling so I wonder what did the LED pair itself to in the end

will be a pain to take the LED fixture down from the ceiling

Yes. It is the same

#

Base don where you are the sonoff dongle plus - the new zigbee3.0 is based on cc2652 as well

And it's pretty cheap

Or like a combo adapter (if there is one)

near echo
#

Yep that's the one. Pretty expensive from where I buy though

white aurora
#

Oh you mean where you buy from it’s more

near echo
#

Zwave devices are pretty expensive. Moreover in future when matter / thread becomes standard cc2652 will automatically be compatible

white aurora
#

Well I’ll just pull the trigger on the Zigbee then. Thanks.

#

Then I can start swapping off wifi devices. Just too many lightbulbs to have them all on wifi.

#

Zigbee lights seem relatively cheaper, too

white aurora
#

That’s only $13CAD 😱

near echo
#

Meanwhile you can still continue with your hue and do all automations

white aurora
#

Wish I jumped on one when they were that cheap lol

#

Yea I’ll probably keep the hue stuff for important rooms and lights like the main bedroom and living room. They are higher quality and have more features than some of the others I’ve seen. But no reason to spend that much on white only bulbs.

#

I’m having so much fun automating everything lol

near echo

I have a Aqara Smart plug. (https://www.aqara.com/eu/smart_outlet.html)

I use a Conbee II and it finds the plug. BUT. It does not find all the information the plug is supposed to give.
I use ZHA.

Problem:
a) Not all information can be shown.
b) I can turn it on and off which is good enough. BUT. after idling for some time HA loose the connection to it. That means. If i manually turn it on and off i can then use it from HA. But after a nights sleep it does not work anymore until i turn it on and off.

Any thoughts?

Greetings everyone, Im new in this business that is why I just purchase smart switch (zigbee) by Moes ... and after that I decide to check how to integrate it in has :) Looks like I would need Gateway. don``t want to use cloud connection. Im open to suggestions . (Keep in mind that Im new in here and communication with me can be pain :D :D :D since I dont know some/most of the abbreviations that you are using 🙂 )

Would anyone have a comment on the accuracy of different brands/models of humidity sensor please? I have 3 sensors on the shelf of my workshop. The standalone Screwfix thing says the RH is 41%. The wireless Amazon thing says it's 50%. The Sonoff SNZB-02 says it's 52%. The Sonoff however does definitely have the smallest hole for air to reach the sensor. I don't know which one of them to believe. Am I better buying something else if I want to use it to control a dehumidifier?

Hi everyone. i am using zha with a cc2531 stick. every device works well expect my hue outdoor motion sensor. everytime i put it outside, it looses connection after a day or so. Since i am using it to trigger my outdoor light, this is annoying at latest when you are trying to find the keyhole in the dark. I have no glue why, it seems that my motion sensor disconnects only if it is outside, but not at the same moment i put it outside. It seems that the sensor is okay until a day or so but then suddenly is not responding any more. It is not possible that this is a range issue, since my outdoor light is less than a meter away and acts as router. Any idea how to figure out where the problem is?

Running zha with a conbee II on a rpi4 (using usb 2 port with extender cable) with at the time of writing only one aeotec button (endpoint, smarthings branded). It usually reports (temperature) very frequently (about every 2-5 minutes) and has done so reliably for months, but after power losses it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours before it comes back. Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.

Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.

Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.

Well, the manual does say to keep the device within 4,5 meters during pairing. So at less than 2 meters it should be fine?

Seems to me that Z2M simply sends a sort of "turn light on" message to any odd dimmer anyway

The "how to support new devices" page only shows how to tell Z2M what functions are exposed, it doesn't show any special implementations for specific devices

i changed the channel of my zigbee controller.. and now i need to repair my hue light and the remote that came with it

#

how do i do that? i'm not able to control the lights with the remote control.. and i can't reach it over bluetooth

use the remote to touchlink reset the bulbs to put them in pairing mode. google the how on that but if its a hue remote should work

shadow valley
#

it says bring the light close to the controller, but that's not possible

#

the light is fixed in the ceiling

#

how can i "use the remote to touchlink reset the bulbs"?

#

it's actually not a bulb, but rather a fixed light

My new Aqara smartplug (connected through ZHA) just went offline, how can I get it back online? It's still plugged into the wallsocket but just hasn't been used for a couple of hours. Also, to prevent this, should I set these numbers higher? (https://gyazo.com/d84106912390d557824b3a1a6f2322a6) The device is acting as a router, does it stop doing that if the device is considered "offline" by ZHA?

Well if it is offline it does nothing

icy grove
#

But the weird thing is

#

if I trigger an automation that includes this switch, it works

#

and then it gets back "online", so the device isn't actually offline

#

because it can still respond to automations

jolly narwhal
#

That sounds weird, but I don't use zha

icy grove
#

I just turned up the "consider devices offline after .. seconds" to 32 hours

#

hopefully that keeps them online 🙂

had a power outage here and after that one zigbee bulb is acting up, removed it from z2m , after that reset the device / pairing mode.
after that z2m only says :

#
Warning Device '0x60a423fffe0d9ac8' left the network
Info MQTT publish: topic 'zigbee2mqtt/bridge/event', payload '{"data":{"friendly_name":"0x60a423fffe0d9ac8","ieee_address":"0x60a423fffe0d9ac8"},"type":"device_leave"}'
#

no interviews showing up ?

jolly narwhal
#

Did you try restarting z2m?

lime locust
#

yeah just did , enabled allow join

#

the lights, in pairing mode , and i removed it earlier , so why is it leaving the network after every reset/pairing attempt ?

#

hmm just checked its config.yaml , device is also gone in its config

#

hmm device leave , ok logical after reset/re-pair, but no interview coming up ...

#

It's showing that it's in pairing mode, but neither Z2M or ZHA picks it up

What's the best way to relocate a zigbee device? I have a plug I use as a repeater and need to move it. Can I just do so and hit "Reconfigure device" in the Zigbee integration?

#

or do I need to full remove and readd?

What are the cheapest zigbee white lights (standard 60W replacements) right now that are compatible with HA?

#

Right now I can get 6 Sengled bulbs for $60CAD

#

But they are wifi bulbs

rapid skiff
#

I recently got a bunch of the hue rgb bulbs for $30 each because they dim well and work great as standard whites

white aurora
#

Hue is a bit expensive for those types of situations

rapid skiff
#

Two for $25 isn't bad in my opinion

white aurora
#

Whoa where

#

I would pay $12.50/bulb easy

#

I see 2 for $50 on Amazon Canada right now

rapid skiff
#

They are the standard hue bulbs

#

Non ambiance

#

2 for 25 or 4 for 45

rapid skiff
#

Yep, search around and see if you can find them cheaper
